Halliwell Manor: Where is the Charmed House Located? Where was Charmed Filmed?

  • California California lifestyle California Things to Do Los Angeles travel influencer USA Travel

If you're a Charmed fan you've seen a lot of Halliwell Manor over the seasons. In the TV show, the Victorian-style manor is based in San Francisco, but that's not where the series was filmed.

Where did the Halliwell sisters live on the tv series “Charmed”?

The witches lived in San Francisco. The Halliwell family went through a lot of tribulations & jubilations in that house in San Francisco. And plenty of magic! It was passed down over the generations. The Book of Shadows played an important part up in their attic of those witch sisters, Piper, Prue Phoebe and Paige.

The Warren line of witches is powerful. For the most part, we saw the women inside their home with shots of the outside of the Halliwell house more seen during transitions for scenes. The manor stayed in the Warren family line for four generations. Where was this filmed? If you were ever wondering about the Halliwell manor Charmed houses, this post has the information you're looking for.

Where Is Halliwell Manor in real life? The house used for Charmed is a real house that real people live at. There are no tours. It is a neighborhood with people please be respectful. The address is 1329 Carroll Ave Los Angeles, CA 90026. The whole street is historic!

If you're in the LA area you need to check out the Halliwell manor near the Echo Park neighborhood. Where is Charmed filmed? You can actually find the Charmed house location in Los Angeles. Can you believe it? I suppose it's not the biggest surprise considering Hollywood & Los Angeles is well-known for being a big part of the movie industry. That said, the tv show takes place in San Francisco so it is a bit of a shock to find out that's not where it was shot. 500 Hidden Secrets in LA.

Plan a trip ! The address is 1329 Carroll Ave Los Angeles, CA 90026. The entire street is lined with remarkable, unique homes that you won't want to miss. The home's estimated value as of August 2020 is just over $1,100,000, & it has only gotten more popular with time. These days people have easy access to watching the Charmed TV show snuggled in their pajamas tucked in bed as they watch Netflix. It's certainly having its revival in popularity.

If you like to travel , add this location to your bucket list if you are a big fan. Not only is it a beautiful house but the street is lined with remarkable Victorian-style manors. Read  111 Places in Los Angeles that you can't miss!

“Our powers are not toys.” - Prue Halliwell: Season 1, Episode 2

You can find the original structure of the house on 1329 Carroll Ave Los Angeles, CA 90026, along with a bunch of other beautiful houses on the same street, such as the Heim House which is at 1320 Carroll Avenue. The Victorian mansions are worth a visit since you're already in the area. They filmed loads of outside shots of Halliwell house for the show, so it's easily recognizable. Walk around the neighborhood to get the full scope of the Victorian-style manor, architecture, windows, even the door!

If you want to shop online so you can have episodes conveniently located at your home, opt for Charmed: the Complete Series  or start with Charmed Season 1 . Do you have a favorite season?

Whether you're a new Charmed fan or you've seen every episode 100 times & can quote every line, no matter what - you are welcome here on my blog!

Los Angeles has literally thousands of things you can potentially do, so this is just something to do if you have extra time or are a Charmed fan. Surprisingly, it's not very well known that the Charmed manor is actually in LA. I found it on accident as I was looking at the map, it just showed up. Carroll Avenue is located in Los Angeles near Echo Park. The neighborhood is beautiful.

Is the Halliwell Manor a Real House?

Oh yes! It's definitely a real house & a stunning one at that, well from what I've seen at least since you can't tour it. However, the exterior of the house is different than the set they used for the inside of the house. The furniture on TV is not the same as the actual interior of the house. When I visited they were doing construction on the exterior of the house. It looked like they were just doing standard maintenance to make it look refreshed. It's an old Victorian house after all. Explore the area, there are other gorgeous houses to see.

People live in the home so it's not available for tours or anything tour options I know of. Where did the Halliwell sisters live on the tv series “Charmed”? In the tv show, the home is supposed to be on 1329 Prescott Street, San Francisco. But there's no location to tour in San Francisco!

“We kick evil’s ass every day.” “Sometimes twice a day.” - Paige Matthews and Piper Halliwell: Season, 4, Episode 15

Is the Charmed House Los Angeles Historic?

In 1976, the entire 1300 block of Carroll Avenue was listed as a National Register of Historic Places. (Learn more about the  National Register of Historic Places .) The Carroll Avenue 1300 block contains the highest concentration of Victorian Era residences still standing in Los Angeles. The interesting homes are considered part of the Eastlake & Queen Anne style. Built by real estate developer and city councilman, Daniel Innes, the Charmed house location in real life is called the Innes House. It's one of the original homes build during the 1880s on Carroll Avenue in Angelino Heights.

These nine Victorian residences are considered Los Angeles-Historic-Cultural Monuments as they represent times long gone, a dedication to architecture, beauty, design. This house had some external work done such as a paint job & fixing the roof, but much of it remains intact. For the most part, it's still the original structure.

Can You Visit the Halliwell Manor?

Here's the thing: the Halliwell house is a real house & real people live there. It's a private residence and historical landmark. It's a historic home, the Innes House. The whole street is a historic site. It's not a fake house on a fake street with fake people. It's a neighborhood with humans who genuinely live there. Be considerate & respectful when you visit. Don't walk directly onto their property, keep your distance & get a shot from the sidewalk. The home is tall so you don't want to cut it out by getting too close anyway! You can't go inside but you can take photos from the outside. The real name of the house is the Innes House.

Where was Charmed Filmed?

Perhaps you're searching for the Charmed house San Francisco. For the most part, the filming location for Charmed was at Paramount Studios at 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA. Exterior shots of  Halliwell manor  were shot at 1329 Carroll Avenue in Los Angeles, California. Despite the tv show being based in San Francisco, they didn't film there! There is no  Charmed house San Francisco.

Don't Forget to Check Out the Thriller House

While you're in the area, check out the Thriller House on the same block. The address is 1345 Carroll Avenue in Angelino Heights. The home is called the Sanders House & is well-known as the place featured in Michael Jackson's Thriller music video. Check out the Thriller CD  on Amazon. You'll love walking around the neighborhood known for its architecture and history.

Thanks Jennifer!

I loved Charm! This is so cool and love that you were able to capture/ visit it :) https://www.mariannyc.com/book-review-indestructible-by-krista-nerestant/

It was a random find one day but so cool!! :]

Omg so cool! I grew up watching Charmed and have only spoiled my adult like with continued reruns thanks to Netflix lol. This would be something I'd love to check out if I ever go to LA lol. Thanks for sharing doll! Des | https://www.itsbetterinheels.com

It's so nice to watch on Netflix, brings up memories of the 1990s! :]

The action figure link of Piper is broken ;-(

Before Covid you used to be able to go in. The owners opened it one weekend a month for tours. They lived upstairs and downstairs it was just like 1900, except the kitchen. I think it was $10 for the neighborhood tour paid to the City. That was the only house we went it. The day of the tour it was all young girls and me. It was funny I stood out. I plan to go back next month when I visit the Fast Furious house closeby. I didn't know they were neighbors or I would have seen it the first time.

I just checked. They have the tours again, but the price went up to $15. https://www.laconservancy.org/events/angelino-heights-walking-tour The website says no guarantee which house you will go into, but the day I went it was the Innes house as it was always the Innes house back then.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! // :]

A Fun Place to Get Your House Fix

“Charmed:” The Painted Victorian Known as Halliwell Manor

Charmed Halliwell Manor on WB TV series

This painted Victorian is instantly recognizable as Halliwell Manor from the popular TV series “Charmed .”  The show was set in San Francisco, but in real life it’s the historic Innes House in Los Angeles.

The show was about three sisters who discover that they’re descendants of a long line of witches. Each of them has a special ability, like moving objects, stopping time, or seeing the future, and their destiny is to battle against the forces of evil.

They learn that they are “the Charmed ones” with combined forces creating an unstoppable “Power of Three.” Demons are an occupational hazard for them, breaking into their pretty Victorian to bust it up on the regular.

Let’s take a look back at the family home that Paige, Phoebe, Prue, and Paige inherited from their Gram…

Update: Check out  the house from the new “Charmed” reboot , which is pretty fabulous, too.

A reader named Kellie is a “Charmed” superfan who urged me to write about the show and sent me some photos and information to get me started since I didn’t know much about it.

She explained the concept, writing: “The Halliwell family moved into the house in the early 1900s to protect the Nexus and use it for good. Each generation of Halliwells has lived in this house since that time.

“Many of the battles that the sisters have fought have taken place in the manor. The manor is the safest place for them to be, even though a lot of bad stuff still happens there.”

Piper and Paige in the attic on Charmed

“The Book of Shadows is kept in the attic, which, until the sisters received their powers, was always locked. You’ll notice that much of the show takes place in the attic and in other rooms downstairs in the house.”

The “Charmed” Kitchen

Paige Piper Phoebe in the Kitchen

At the beginning of the series, Shannen Doherty played Prue, the oldest Halliwell sister, but she was killed off in the third season finale.

Rumor has it that she left because she didn’t get along with Alyssa Milano, who played her younger sister Phoebe.

The drama came up again last year in an interview with Milano , who hinted that they didn’t always get along.

In any case, when the series returned for a 4th season, Prue was dead, and they discovered they had a new (half) sister they’d never heard of before — Rose McGowan’s Paige.

I hope all of the people who were asking about this house appreciate your hard work. Wow, that was some undertaking! I’ve never seen the show and it doesn’t sound like something I’d be interested in, but the (real) house is beautiful. Very interesting set design. I’d like to know why they chose to decorate it like that. It looks like it was done in the 80s and never updated. Maybe they got to see the interior of the real house when they started and copied that. If not I can’t imagine why they did it that way. It’s a mystery. Get to the bottom of that now, would you? 😉

charmed tour san francisco

2.24.14 at 9:36 am

Yes, I hope they do! Ha. This one took me forEVer to write. 🙂

The show started in the 1990s, so I think the decorating looked a little less old-fashioned at the time than it does to us now. And it was supposed to have been in the family for generations, as Alie mentions below. But you wouldn’t know three women in their 20s lived there at first glance, for sure!

2.24.14 at 10:28 am

It was their Grams house and the girls inherited it so I think it was just familiar to them. And you know, Demons were always pooping in and blowing things up, so…. 😉

2.24.14 at 10:29 am

“popping in” – Demons were always “popping in” not pooping. Sheesh.

2.24.14 at 10:30 am

Ha. Yes, thankfully they were just popping in the house. And good point about things getting blown up a lot! 🙂

2.24.14 at 9:19 am

I love the real home exterior of this place! They did a great job on the interior sets as well. You’re right, Julia, the dĂŠcor does seem an odd choice for young women, but since the home is supposed to have been in their family for generations, I can see tradition winning out over trend. It gives an impression of establishment and comfort; sort of like a trip to Grandma’s. Reminds me a lot of Sookie Stackhouse’s gran’s house in True Blood.

2.24.14 at 9:34 am

That’s another good one! Thanks, Alie.

Thanks for this. I LOVED charmed. I didnt watchas much after prud died, and addding the Billie character was crazy. Did you binge watch(as 8yr is alot to go thru) a season or just watch as you could. Lastly,in the 6th picture after pic of Paige’s wedding of the street,is the brown house to right of the innes house burned? It looks so dull.

2.24.14 at 9:53 am

I watched episodes as I could on my computer and took screenshots as I went along over the last few years. (I forgot to mention that Netflix is still streaming the series if anyone wants to check it out.) Fun show!

I don’t know what the deal is with that house next door but it looks like it’s in bad shape, doesn’t it?

that dull brown house was where dan lived in the charmed series, and it looks like the house that paige got spooked by. it ended up being a place with a man made boy and a monster who shrinks girls and turns them into one of a kind ciramic or clay sculptures. i hope that answers your question, if you have anymore charmed questions, i would love to answer them, i am a HUGE fan, i wish i was on that tour… thnx bye!!!

2.24.14 at 11:39 am

Thanks, Ash! I really enjoyed looking at the real Innes House interior! 🙂 It looks to me like they used the real home as an inspiration for the show sets. The woodworking looks pretty similar, but the designers did their own thing with the décor.

I’ve always loved Charmed. You can catch it in reruns in the mornings on TNT and in the afternoons on Lifetime (in NJ it’s on 7-9am on TNT and 3-5pm on Lifetime.) It was such a lovely surprise to see this post today.

The girls lived with their Grams (Grandmother) and then she passed away before their powers were returned to them. Grams bound their powers as young children to allow them normal childhoods. I like to think they kept the house as if she still were alive to keep her close to them. (and she did appear in many episodes as a ghost or spirit). It was their ancestral home – maybe they didn’t feel modernizing it was their right?

Thanks Julia! JoAnn in NJ

charmed, in re-runs, used to one of my guilty pleasures, the house was one of the reasons i watched it! it was old fashioned, but very in keeping with the tone of the show. somewhat reminded me of the practical magic house. the attic was my favorite.

i love the house in the witches of east end, especially the kitchen. hope you’ll do a feature on it sometime.

thanks for all of the work on this post!

I never watched this show, but guess they avoided showing the right side, which doesn’t seem to actually have a solarium protruding there. I love solariums like that, though.

The only house on a witch show I’ve taken much interest in lately is the one on American Horror Story: Coven, which was a gorgeous New Orleans mansion. You’d love the house, Julia, but the show might be a bit beyond your grossness threshold.

2.25.14 at 7:13 am

Yeah, I watched the first season of AHS and it kinda freaked me out. I’m a total wuss about stuff like that! But I keep hearing about the Coven house, so I might have to watch enough to at least check that out. Ha. Thanks, Wade.

Well done and many great pictures for us. I love the sets. I didn’t watch the show either but the house is great – although a bit old fashion I agree. I’m fortunate to bump into set designers and staff looking for props and furniture when I’m out looking around too. Once in a while a photographer or stager will pop in looking for a vintage item for a special occasion or photo shoot. I’ve watched every episode of Witches of East End and both houses are amazing. The estate and the home the girls live in with their Mom and Aunt. Your hard work finding all these great pictures and information for us is greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙂

I’ve been at fan of Charmed from the start and have always loved this house. I agree, witches live in the best houses! I think it’s why I love shows and movies about them. Wonderful post — I too was a fan of the show. In the early seasons of the show they often had C-stories related to the problems of upkeep in a historic home on their limited budget–the electric, the fireplaces. I appreciated that as 2 of the 3 were frequently unemployed. And then of course there’s all the home repairs from demon attacks on the show. Luckily one of the sisters ended up marrying a carpenter/repairman. 😉

3.3.14 at 8:22 pm

Wasn’t that smart of her to marry someone who could take care of the house? If you’re going to live in an old Victorian, a handy husband would definitely be helpful to have around! 🙂

i stayed with the show for it’s entire run, so i’m gonna bore you stiff: the sisters p are a predestined trio known as ‘the charmed ones’ who were born to wipe out the source of all evil and restore a certain balance to the world. being descended of a centuries-long line of witches, the difference between the sisters and their ancestors is that rather than having the three powers – telekinesis, psychic vision and the ability stop time (freeze atoms on a localized scale) – each sister would have only one power and be exponentially stronger than they forebears in their designated gift. thus, prudence was telekinetic, piper could freeze motion and phoebe could see flashes of the future. in time each sister’s power would expand and develop secondary characteristics (i.e. piper could also speed up atoms, phoebe could levitate).

their home is decorated in an old fashioned manner because it has been in the family so long. this seems to be a standard trick for establishing a legacy of witchcraft around characters. when the show starts phoebe comes home from nyc broke to the aggravation of prue, who is a successful antiques appraiser. piper is trying to establish herself as a professional chef. their sibling dynamic is stereotypical: prue is a take charge/no nonsense firstborn, piper is a shy, mediating middle and phoebe is an impulsive wild child/baby. (this dynamic shifts very masterfully when prue dies and along comes paige, who was raised as an only child. firstborns and only children have pretty much the same personality. paige is not used to group decision making and defies piper’s advice repeatedly. bad things result. piper is frequently upset with her, while phoebe works very hard to keep the peace between them.)

the carpenter who eventually marries piper is actually their guardian angel, leo, who died in ww2. i have never understood how a man who’s mortal life was over could marry and father children. even with a witch. long-lost sister paige was also sired by their mother’s guardian angel, giving her the power to move objects through a sort of translocation the way leo can move from place to place. this allows her to fill prue’s role as the “telekinetic” of the trio. eventually, paige grows to be able to travel this way.

along with the destiny to take down the source of all evil (an actual person first portrayed as an underworld figure cloaked in a scarlet robe with scarlet wings, and then later as a monstrous freak of a demon), the girls must protect their family book of spells – which all demons want. almost any spell, potion or charm they need has been created and written down by their forebears. the girls do learn to write their own spells too.

and then there’s a whole thing about how a time travel incident shunted their destinies so that piper’s first born is a near omnipotent creature of terrifying power.

Hi Julia! I’m also hooked on houses and I’ve been a fan of your blog for years, but I’ve never thought about commenting until now – when I saw my floorplan for the Charmed house in your post!

I fell in love with the show and the house back when I was a teenager. I ran a fan site for it that is now lost to the ether (probably for the best), but it’s fun to see the floorplan I drew up still floating around the internet today.

Another commenter here got it right when they said that the pilot was filmed in the real house, which doesn’t match the set they later built. Even though they never filmed inside the real house again, a part of it can actually be seen in almost every episode! The opening credits feature a clip of a mysterious blue light shooting out of a chandelier, but it’s footage from the original unaired pilot – you can tell because there’s a beautiful corner fireplace visible that doesn’t exist in any of the rooms on the set. I’m not sure how many people watching ever notice that.

Again, love your blog, and this is a great post as usual. I look forward to many more to come!

3.5.14 at 9:04 am

Hi Ted! You’re the one who created the floorplan? I’m so glad to know who to thank for that. I was so excited to find it when I was researching the post. It’s helpful to see how all the rooms go together. Thanks for the additional info, too. Great to hear from you!!

Loved this show! It’s such a gorgeous house, and maybe it isn’t the most beautiful interior I’ve ever seen, but there’s just something about it that makes it feel so “homey”. Am I the only one, though, that’s always wondered why they have a proper cooker AND a set of, what d’you call it in America, an extra stovetop on the kitchen isle? Why?? On another note, the interior, and the house itself, from the Scottish tv series Monarch of the Glen is aboslutely amazing. A bit run down and not the flashiest of homes, but it’s so cozy and also very “homey” – so you should give it a look.

I’ve been watching “Monarch of the Glen” on Netflix. That’s another good one! Thanks, Stella.

The photo of the stairs isn’t from Halliwell Manor. It looks similar, but the wallpaper is different, the doorway to the left of the staircase (coming down the stairs) doesn’t have an actual door in the show – in this picture you can see a bit of a dark wood door – and there isn’t a space beneath the stairs in the show. It’s a flat wall.

Oh, interesting. Maybe that’s why I couldn’t track the photo down! Thanks, Meg.

I’ve seen this show 3 or 4 times, it’s one of my favorites tv shows ever made, and last time i even thought about taking screenshots. I have hundreds of them, especially of the sets and decor. I can’t quite get a good ideea of the upstairs plans though. The house is supposed to be an old victorian house inherited from their grandmother, that’s why it is decorated that way. The show started in 1998 and there is an unaired pilot episode that was actually filmed in the real Innes house, so they kind of got the decorating ideas from there. I have sceenshots from that too. It is kind of old looking, but i do like some parts: the conservatory and the kitchen are my favorites. One day, when i’ll have my own house that i hope i will get to build from scratch, i will definitely have a sunroom :D. I got inspired by this show ever since i first saw it.

You sould also feature the Sabrina, the teenage witch houses. Also victorian and interesting to see. I could help with screenshots, maybe by the end of this year.

And I Dream of Jeannie…I love the 60s tv shows. 🙂

Thank you for this post!

Thank you so much for all the photos and all the work you put into compiling the collection! I plan to use them for visual reference when I built a Charmed house in miniature (a dollhouse, if you will)! I started watching Charmed (reruns) in 2008. Then a couple years ago I checked out Big Bang Theory mainly because Kaley Cuoco had been on Charmed. I then got hooked on BBT too! But regarding the Charmed house (tv version), my favorite part of the house is the solarium, followed by the attic – where most of the ‘magick’ happens! 🙂

Wow, this was an amazing article! Allmost all of my questions regarding the whole house and set was answered here. But, one thing I have noticed is that, when they were at the attic and someone rang on the the door, they always went to the window and looked to the left. But, according to the exterior your not able to see the door from the 3 floor. Aaaand I really wonder what to actual house look like inside 😮 Love the house! And I recently saw it in the background in another movie (with the Ugly Betty girl), and after seeing it I could reqognize anything else. Haha

Anyway.. Great job!!

You did a fantastic job considering you didn’t watch the show. If you watch the show look at the windows in the attic they do not match what is going on with the outside. Love your article.

A lot of times these shows which claim to be based in a city like SF are really not shot in SF. They may take a B roll and shoot a few scenes that they use often or use a green screen and superimpose SF locations. Full House did use a few shots from SF but it was never shot here either.

Most of the shooting is nowadays done in Canada or in a backlot in New Orleans or in the LA studios depending on the budget and studio. Sorry

hi angie - can I ask if you have found out any more info on this? If so, would you be kind enough to share! My other half is a fan and like you would love to know if there is more to see!

Charmed was filmed primarily in Canoga Park except for the last two seasons, which were shot at Paramount in Hollywood.

If you take the WB studio tour they teach you all about how TV shows are made. Because good soundstages are hard to build and maintain, space is at a premium, so sets are normally struck (disassembled) and their parts are stored when not in use. This is why the vast majority of sets for canceled shows cannot be toured because the set walls, furniture and props are either packed up in a warehouse, or have been recycled for other shows. There are exceptions but they are very rare. For example, because everyone loves the old sitcom Friends, WB keeps the Central Perk set assembled for the tourists to sit on the couch and take pictures.

It doesn't look like Paramount has done the same thing for Charmed, probably because the fanbase isn't big enough to justify dedicating expensive real estate to a long-canceled show.

If you're a hard-core fan, you could always drive by the house used for the exterior shots of the Halliwell home, then drive by the former studio site in Canoga Park and then tour Paramount Studios. Just keep in mind there's no way you're going to see the Charmed set on Stage 15---it was repurposed long ago for another show that has since been canceled too, Glee.

Coolcaesar thankyou that's really useful information! Booked New York instead now!

You can find lots of locations for TV and Movies in the city on this website.

Love this area. That house has been up for sale for a few years now. Last time I visited someone had put down an offer and they were deciding what to do with all the furniture contained within.

charmed tour san francisco

@merricat: Ah! I did see that it wasn't entirely vacant, but could not tell whether it was furniture or building materials stored inside. The "For Sale" sign was small with the phone number hand-written, so probably "For Sale by Owner" (though it didn't say that.) I'm glad the Daturas are still getting enough water to survive, as the grounds have been neglected. Would love to see the house get some attention soon.

This post was awesome and the photos are great. I had a wonderful time reading your post. Big thanks for sharing and keep posting.

Just read this and really enjoyed the information you've given as I wanted to know where abouts the real house was. I'm hoping to go and see it when I go to America in a couple of years time :)

Great post! I started watching the show again and the Halliwell Manor is truly something. I guessed it was kinda real (interiors are usually sets) but it was just a guess. Awesome post really :)

Something Wicked This Way Comes: The Charmed House

I have always liked witches, but I was really taken with the Halliwell sisters in Charmed. The three sisters were the most powerful witches in the world, and they lived in their grandmother’s house in San Francisco. The house was not only one of the main stages of the production but the house also had plot significance as a spiritual nexus.

Innes House Plan 1

The real house used for the exteriors is located at 1329 Carroll Avenue in Angelino Heights, Los Angeles. And while many may know it as the Halliwell Manor it’s real name is the Innes House. It was built for councilman Daniel Innes, a socially prominent city councilman and real estate developer.  The Innes family lived in the home for nearly forty years before selling the property in 1920, who owned if for another fifty years. The home’s exterior features tailored, rectangular lines, emphasized by vertical grooves with decorative wood trim and classic Victorian details. Inside the house you will find classic Victorian style with a double parlor.

Innes House Plan 2

In the 1950s, many of the Angelino Heights mansions proved too expensive for residents to maintain.  During the 1970s the area underwent a renaissance and many of the original properties were purchased by new owners who did historical restoration on them. The neighborhood remains highly intact and Angelino Heights represents the largest concentration of Victorian homes remaining in Los Angeles.  Carroll Avenue’s 1300 block was listed as a National Register Historic District in 1976 and later became Los Angeles’ first Historic Preservation Overlay Zone in 1983. Today, the Los Angeles Conservancy holds an easement that protects the home’s exterior façade as well as interior features that include woodwork, hardware, and decorative details.

Innes House Plan 3

Even with all its history this house plan is probably best known as the residence of the Charmed Ones.  If you happen to be in Los Angeles and want to take a tour of this historic Victorian house plan , walking tours walking tours are offered the first Saturday of every month. And while you might not be able to take up residence in the Angelino Heights mansion for yourself, you can find homes with similar styles in the Victorian house plan collection  at the House Designers.

Phoebe Halliwell

Phoebe Halliwell

Character analysis.

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… in the Halliwell Manor in San Francisco. Phoebe moved from New York to live in the manor with her sisters after her grandmother passed away. Phoebe came across the Book of Shadows, revealing that she and her sisters are the most powerful witches in history. Since then, they've continually protected innocents in San Francisco from demons, warlocks, and other evil creatures.

Profession… advice columnist for The Bay Mirror . After graduating from college with a B.A. in Psychology, Phoebe landed a steady job writing her column, “Ask Phoebe.” The column has given her a measure of celebrity status, with loyal readers hanging on her every word and her picture all over city advertisements. She’s known for her practical and insightful advice, eventually adapting the column into a best-seller, Finding Love.

Interests... Sex and the City, mastering her witchcraft abilities, and protecting civilians. Like all the Charmed Ones, she possesses the ability to cast spells and brew potions. Additionally, she possesses the power of premonition, receiving visions of both the future and the past. Pheobe later on picks up the power of levitation, making molecules explode, and eventually gains the power of empathy – allowing her to sense and tap into others’ emotions.

Relationship Status... married to a cupid named Coop. This is her second marriage, after her first one with Cole Turner, a demon, proved unsalvageable. Cole was initially a half-demon named Belthazor sent by the Triad to try and kill Phoebe and her sisters. Instead, he fell in love with Phoebe and they spent two years together. Cole’s countless demonic powers, however, made it impossible for them to be together. While Phoebe vanquished him, he still watches over her from his spiritual plane.

Challenge… finding love. For all the advice and wisdom she offers, Phoebe’s primary challenge has always been opening herself up to love and finding her ideal match. Her past choices have been risky to say the least – particularly Cole, the demon mercenary sent to kill her.

Personality… brave, rebellious, restless, and clever. Phoebe is the only sister with martial-arts skills and is not afraid to fight evil with old-school methods. Demons take her less seriously than the other Charmed Ones because of her comparatively passive powers, but she often proves herself the most courageous of the group. She is extremely compassionate, almost to a fault – notably when she tries to strike a deal with The Source of All Evil to save her sister Piper’s life, not knowing that he plans to double cross her.

Take a Tour of the Charmed House!

Just got a comment on my Charmed page from Gary, who heard tours are given of the interior of the Charmed House and he needed me to investigate!

After scouring Google, I found this website which describes walking tours of Angelino Heights (where the Charmed House is located) given by the Los Angeles Conservancy. According to the author of the blog, the owner of the Charmed home allows guests on the tour to view the interior of his property. You can learn more about the tour and make reservations on the Los Angeles Conservancy’s website .

Scroll down to “Angelino Heights” under “Tour Descriptions” to learn more about the tour.

Don’t be disappointed when you see the interior, though. While Charmed does use the Carroll Avenue home to film exteriors, the interiors are filmed exclusively on a sound-stage.

Until next time, Happy Stalking!

Stalk It: Tours of Angelino Heights are given the first Saturday of every month at 10am. You can make reservations here . The Conservancy recommends booking far in advance. This tour sounds pretty incredible, even for those who aren’t Charmed fans. You will get to see some incredible architecture and some of the most unique homes in Los Angeles!

32 Replies to “Take a Tour of the Charmed House!”

i love charmed i watch every episode over and over on demand

I live in Los Angeles California and the charmed house is only 5 minutes away from where I stay. I took some pictures but I can’t upload on here. But its totally amazing. Love charmed so much!!!! :’) Swear I’m the biggest charmed fan.. Lol

are they still giving tours of the house in 2015?

Are you allowed to go inside the house

The Charmed house can be seen in the background of the movie “The Guilt Trip” in the next to last scene in the movie. The two lead characters visit a house to see someone and while they are standing in front of the door the angle permits you to see that the house next door is the Charmed house (it’s a quick glimpse). Amusingly, they use Dan’s house from season two and many scenes were shot in Charmed looking over to the manor from his front stoop. I recognized the street immediately due to the retaining walls on the sidewalks (Charmed fans will recognize those) and started looking really hard to see if I could spot the Charmed manor and there it was in the background! I love spotting stuff like this.

I guess you can say its like how they were letting people take a tour in the future on season 6 episode 10 Chris-Crossed. If I lived in that house I would make it exactly like the show. And it would make me feel like I am really on the show.

I heard the charmed house is now available for rent!

Really, I love this show. I watch it over and over.

I love the show charmed i watch it every morning always wishing they would come back again 🙁

Do you have locations for: The Bay Mirror, Buckmans Auction House, Paige’s work at Social Services, Cole’s Apartment, etc…?

the exterior shot of cole’s penthouse building is actually located in Long Beach, CA, and is a historic building known as Villa Riviera (built in 1928), located on the corner of Shoreline Drive and Ocean Blvd

if you look close the Bay mirror is the same as the police station in the show.

And Henry’s April office 🙂

Sorry Henry’s Parole office

The exterior of Cole’s penthouse building, it isn’t located in Long beach but in San Francisco, across California Street and Mason Street (sorry for my english I’m french)

I am going to get the halliwell maner when i am older hopfully

About Charmed

Charmed is a fantasy drama series that follows the lives of three sisters known as The Charmed Ones, the most powerful witches in the world. It’s a reboot of the cult classic of the same name created by Constance M. Burge and aired on The WB from 1998 to 2006.

For those who haven’t seen the newer version or want some refresher, this guide will explore what happened in the Charmed film set by unveiling some scenes from the 2018 TV series (spoiler alert!) We’ll also discover some notable Charmed locations you can visit today, including sites around Vancouver, Canada.

The theme of witches and witchcraft in drama and movies isn’t new. But viewers can’t help but be captivated by this charming tale surrounding the magical world of the trio of great witches. The three sisters you’ll find in the fictional show are Mel (Melonie Diaz), Maggie (Sarah Jeffery), and Macy (Madeleine Mantock).

However, the trio doesn’t realize how powerful they are or their link to the world of magic until the mysterious death of their mother, Marisol (Valerie Cruz). It’s also what leads Macy to meet her sisters for the first time, who don’t know they have an older sibling.

Many strange things occur as Mel and Maggie try to move on with their lives after their mother’s murder. Suddenly, Maggie can read people’s minds, and Mel has the power to freeze time. There’s also Macy, who possesses the ability to move things with her mind. Later, they discover they are witches – “Witches who are destined to save the world from impending doom” – as Harry Greenwood (Rupert Evans) explains.

They also find out that their mother was a witch, a strong one, in fact. She bound their powers when they were born to protect them and let them live normal lives. But she was murdered while trying to unbind her daughters’ powers. Now that they know about their true heritage, they’re left to decide whether to accept it and battle against the forces of evil or live as ordinary people.

Charmed Locations

Unlike the original show, which was set in San Francisco but took place in Los Angeles, the 2018 reboot is based on a fictional town in Michigan called Hilltowne. The central filming location of Charmed is in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and not Michigan, giving it a different feel.

Most of the TV series’ interior scenes were recorded inside the Whites Ironwood Studios in Vancouver. It’s a fully-equipped facility located at 888 SE Marine Drive, Vancouver, BC. Although the interior shots of the fictitious Vera family’s home were filmed inside the studio, you might recognize its exterior as The James & Elizabeth Phillips Residence.

The University of British Columbia also plays a crucial role in creating some of the best scenes in Charmed. It was featured multiple times in the fantasy drama series and used as one of its main recording studios.

Located on the university campus is the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. It served as The Hilltowne University Graduate Center and can be seen in several scenes in the show’s first season. Parts of the Charmed production also took place in the Chemistry Building, D-Block, Geography Building, and other university areas.

The Vera Manor’s exterior in the series is the same house used as the exterior of the Beauchamp family home in another witch-centric show, Witches of East End.

The first time the third sister, Macy, appears in the Pilot episode is three months after Marisol’s passing. She’s walking with Galvin (Ser'Darius Blain) around the neighborhood of Hilltowne, where she just moved into when a house caught her eye.

With a surprised look, she says, “That house,” referring to the Vera Manor, where her mother, whom she never saw, died. You’ll also see an evening shot of the house as Macy and Maggie head out for the night at the beginning of the episode before their mother’s death.

If you think the Vera House looks familiar, that’s because they used the James & Elizabeth Phillips Home for those exterior shots. It’s located at 323 Queens Avenue, situated at the corner of Fourth St. and Queens Ave. in New Westminster, BC, Canada. It’s one of the country’s Historic Places, revered for its association with the early periods of Queen’s Park Victorian-era development.

Visiting the residence will allow you access to other TV shows and movie locations, including the Friendship Gardens & Tipperary Park, just a short walk from the house. There are several bus stops nearby, allowing you to get to the residence quickly and conveniently. You can take bus 105 with a stop at Queen's avenue.

Harry approaches Mel in the hallway scene in Charmed

The University of British Columbia, Chemistry Building

Harry is an essential character in the show, so you’ll see him throughout the series. Interestingly, his first encounter with one of the sisters, Mel, isn’t as pleasant as he probably hoped. In the early parts of the Pilot episode, Mel is hanging posters in the school hallway when Harry, the new chairman of the Women’s Studies Department, approaches her.

Mel doesn’t hide her displeasure with the new head of the department, who replaced her mother. According to her, him replacing her mother is only “the fifth reason she doesn’t like him.” But Harry knows more about her than he’s letting on.

The Chemistry Building provided a setting for this and other scenes in Charmed. It’s one of the buildings at the University of British Columbia, which is one of the key locations in the series, especially in the first season. Whether you’re planning to study here or simply going on a filming tour, UBC offers free and friendly tours for groups and individuals visiting the campus.

The Vancouver campus provides an array of entertainment and sights, from sports, culture, and arts to recreation and natural beauty you can explore. It is home to the Museum of Anthropology, the Pacific Museum of Earth, UBC Botanical Garden, Greenheart Tree Walk, and other attractions, like galleries and even a beach. It’s also a great place to mingle, meet new people, attend events, and many more.

You can get to the university campus by bike, car, or bus, but public transportation is highly recommended. It is cheap, easy, and efficient. The 44, 84, 99, and R4 express buses run directly to the campus, and you can also take your bike on transit.

Lucy accidentally releases a ghost scene in Charmed

Casa Mia Mansion, Vancouver, BC

In an attempt to “find her zen” and some serenity in the season one Kappa Spirit episode, Lucy (Natalie Hall) decides to meditate. While grabbing some candles, she finds a unique candle holder inside the Kappa house and uses it for her meditation. But after lighting the candle and before she even gets deeper into meditation, she accidentally releases the ghost of a former Kappa member, Brenda (McKaley Miller).

Pay close attention to this scene, and you’ll notice a unique feature behind Lucy, which sets the mood of this sequence. If you’re familiar with this den, that’s because it’s been used in numerous shows and movies.

Provided the setting for this scene is the historic Casa Mia mansion in Vancouver. It was built in 1932, boasting eight bedrooms, an outdoor pool, enormous windows, vaulted ceilings, elaborate woodwork, a ballroom, and a well-maintained garden. It celebrated the charm and splendor of Spanish architecture, so it’s not surprising that it’s a beloved filming location for Charmed and other productions.

Today, Casa Mia is expanded and converted into a care home with 90 beds for seniors, including 32 private-pay and 58 publicly-funded beds. However, some of the most cherished features of the property will be preserved, including the elegant main rooms and basement areas.

Maggie visits Parker at the frat house scene in Charmed

Cecil Green Park House, Vancouver, BC

In the Out of Scythe episode of season one, with a glass and a bottle of wine on hand, Maggie visits Parker (Nick Hargrove) at the frat house only to see him injecting himself with a drug in his room. “This is your big secret?” she asks with accusations and disappointment in her voice and then rushes out of the room.

Cecil Green Park House serves as the setting for the Phi Delta Upsilon house used in this scene. It’s a stunning old-world mansion surrounded by lush gardens and set by the sea. It serves as a glorious venue for weddings, meetings, and special events, delivering a flexible space and private setting for different occasions.

It is situated on the University of British Columbia campus, offering an array of impressive facilities for meetings, parties, and personal celebrations. It is accessible via car, taxi, or bus and is within walking distance from major attractions in Vancouver.

Mel and Harry track the Darklighter scene in Charmed

Former Molson Brewery site, Vancouver, BC

Mel and Harry return to the facility in the season two Sudden Death episode, where the Darklighter was keeping the creatures, hoping to get a clue to its location. However, they seem to be “at the dead end,” as Mel points out.

This scene was recorded inside the abandoned Molson Brewery at Burrard St. in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The brewery manufactured beer in the city for decades until it was sold in 2019. It became a famous production location for several shows and films over the years.

However, it will become a site for Quantum Park, an inclusive and vibrant condo development in Vancouver. It is close to several historical landmarks, including the Seaforth Armoury, and is accessible by public transit.

The community workspace scene in Charmed

The Warehouse Studios, Vancouver, BC

The Safe Space episode in the second season takes The Charmed Ones to a different location through a portal. The magical doorway appears when a mysterious hooded assassin attacks them and destroys the Book of Shadows, leaving Harry with the villain.

The sisters end up in what looks like a lair, and behind its door is the SafeSpace Seattle, “the premier communal workspace,” as the tour guide, Swan (Christin Park), describes. It's like any other co-working space, with desks, chairs, and even a café and shop. But nothing seems ordinary in this place, as they find themselves unable to use their powers.

The entire site looks like a massive warehouse. That’s because the building where the filmmakers captured this scene was initially built as a supply warehouse in 1886. Later, it was used as a city hall, jail, and morgue after what’s now known as the Great Vancouver Fire that destroyed the city on June 13 of the same year.

In 1997, the building was restored and structurally upgraded, turning it into The Warehouse Studio. It’s a multi-media recording facility and a spacious photography studio with large loft spaces complete with materials and equipment, like recorders, tape machines, monitors, video displays, and more. It also has rooms for hair and makeup, a large bathroom, workstations, a wardrobe, etc.

You can take a tour and check out the site. It is on Powell St and within walking distance of several shopping areas, stores, and bus stops. Take bus 050 with routes that pass by the studio. But line 019 is usually the cheapest way to get to The Warehouse Studio from Vancouver and takes only eight minutes.

Although the fantasy TV drama about the powerful witch sisters is set in Michigan and features several areas in America, there are only a few scenes that were actually filmed in the U.S. Instead, the locations in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, breathed life into the charming town of Hilltowne. So if you’re ever in the area, drop by the iconic Charmed locations and see where the magic happened.

If you’re on a filming tour, you’ll find that it’s easy to get from one filming location to another. You can start your tour at the University of British Columbia, which was heavily used by the cast and crew to create a series that many people love.

Even if you’re not a fan of the show, you’re sure to enjoy your visit as it’s home to many of the city’s must-visit attractions. Plus, UBC is only 25 minutes from downtown, meaning you can easily explore an array of entertainment, shopping, and top-rated sights.

1.5-hour drive

Enjoy Tomales Bay views, small-town charm and the freshest seafood when visiting West Marin. Places like Point Reyes and Marshall make West Marin a go-to spot for city locals who need a breath of fresh air, and it is without a doubt one of the most picturesque parts of NorCal. Start your day with a cheese tasting at Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co. before heading over to Heidrun Meadery to sip Champagne-style mead. Tony’s Seafood Restaurant is the ultimate place for clam chowder and BBQ’d oysters, but nothing beats a sunset dinner with fresh oysters and cod dip at Nick’s Cove . You’ll also want to check out the legendary Hog Island Oyster Co. while in town.

Where to Stay:

Accommodations are extremely limited in West Marin, but the Lodge at Marconi has completely changed the game by providing 45 retro, cabin-like guest rooms for visitors. The hotel sits in the heart of Marconi State Historic Park, giving guests premium access to hiking trails and picnic areas where you can admire Tomales Bay from up high. Though there is an adorable market in the lobby where you can purchase high-end snacks and bottles of wine, the Lodge at Marconi is set to open an on-site restaurant in June 2024.

There are also several breweries and lake-front restaurants where you can quench your thirst, including South Lake Brewing Company and Jimmy’s at The Landing Resort and Spa .

Located in Truckee, The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe is one of the nicest accommodations in the California side of Lake Tahoe. Open year-round, this sprawling resort is surrounded by picturesque pine trees on the side of a mountain. Edgewood Tahoe Resort is another high-end property, but just across the border near South Lake Tahoe, and the waterfront views are magical.

Healdsburg is the ultimate destination for weekend wine tasting near San Francisco. Despite its small-town charm and low-key vibe, Healdsburg is crawling with Michelin-recognized restaurants. From three-star SingleThread to one-star Barndiva , eating well is easy in this charming slice of wine country . If you’re exploring the main town square, you can also walk from tasting room to tasting room; highlights include The Society: Healdsburg , Siduri Wine Bar and Tasting Lounge and Selby Winery .

Those hoping to stay in the heart of downtown Healdsburg should consider booking one of the 16 intimate guest rooms at Hotel Les Mars . The French-inspired property is reminiscent of an Old World chateau, and the convenient location makes walking to each tasting room and restaurant a breeze. For a more traditional luxury resort experience, nothing beats the rolling vineyards and bungalow-style accommodations at Montage Healdsburg .

Big Sur is one of the best road trip destinations in the world, let alone Northern California. The dramatic and windy cliffside roads make for some of the most jaw-dropping photo opportunities all along the coast, but some can't-miss sights include Bixby Creek Bridge and McWay Falls. Since Big Sur looks like an actual screen saver, you’ll want to spend most of your time outdoors exploring, but once you’ve worked up an appetite, enjoy sweeping Pacific views at Coast Big Sur or river-side dining at the Restaurant at Big Sur River Inn .

Situated on 160 acres of awe-inspiring land, Alila Ventana Big Sur offers guests the best of both worlds with ocean and forest views.
