DAVIDE VAN DE SFROOS has announced an eagerly awaited live at the FORUM in ASSAGO (MI) for next November 23rd.

The singer-songwriter, winner of the Tenco Prize several times, will take the stage of the Milanese palace for the third time to share an evening of great celebration with his audience.

These last three years have been very intense and important for the singer-songwriter who, constantly inspired and eager to make new music and meet his audience, has recorded 2 unreleased albums, published a live album and toured Italy with his concerts always Sold Out. Van De Sfroos is currently on tour (all dates are already sold out) with the songs from his latest album “Manoglia”, as well as the hits from his repertoire.

After this last tour, Davide decided to take a moment to breathe, in that nature that is so dear to him, it surrounds him and inspires him and, before finishing the current tour, he wants to say goodbye to everyone with the promise of coming back in a big way with a concert at the FORUM in ASSAGO (MI), a new opportunity to tell his world.

THE CONCERT AT THE ARCIMBOLDI

This evening, February 29th, at the TAM – Teatro Arcimboldi Milan, the largest theater in Italy and second in Europe, is a special event that brings back Van De Sfroos (after the first time in 2016 in which it sold out celebrating the 50 years) in a theater that has become an iconic place of Milanese and Lombard culture, a space in which man and art are deeply and strongly connected and which the singer-songwriter will fill with his songs full of history and stories, authentic snapshots of feeling today of the artist, one of the most unique and well-rounded narrators of stories in music on the Italian artistic scene.

The disc “ HANDLE ” contains 11 unreleased tracks that have come to life over the years and have remained jealously guarded in a drawer, or in a pocket like amulets, waiting for the time to come to light. Songs that Davide initially wrote for himself and kept in a special cellar, in his notebooks full of natural and emotional notes, as if they were testimony to experiences, thoughts, moments lived, and which now, while maintaining a sacred intimate character and personal, the singer-songwriter has decided to bring them out of the shadows to allow them to flourish, as a sign of rebirth and restart. This album, with a profound naturalistic and environmental imprint, and which we can imagine written in a meadow, in a large open space, as can also be seen from the title “MANOGLIA” (“magnolia” in laghée dialect), is for Van De Sfroos a great tree from which the 11 leaves sprout which, in autumn, on October 13th precisely, descended towards the listener, already embraced by the roots of this plant that have grown over the years. The seeds planted in Davide’s “artistic and creative greenhouse”, cared for with patience, perseverance and love, gave life to this splendid example of “MANOGLIA” under which the listener will always be able to sit to grasp and appreciate all its colors and smells , allowing itself to be permeated by a sense of magic, thus opening a dialogue with the material that is wood, capable of communicating kindness and warmth in its life and constantly transforming itself, giving away its memory through its knots.

“MANOGLIA”, which Davide ironically defines as an album “full of autumnal hits”, arrives after the successful publication, digitally and in a double vinyl version (in the Top 10 of the FIMI/GfK ranking of the best-selling vinyls in Italy), of the album “ DAVIDE VAN DE SFROOS – LIVE 2022” and it is a record in which, although in a new guise, we find the typical folk of Van De Sfroos whose usual power, remaining preponderant, leaves here greater space and fertile ground for nuances, chiaroscuro, sounds and acoustic instruments, to their softness. An intimate, refined album that draws from different cultures and musical genres, with a vaguely psychedelic bent, in reference to the acoustic psychedelia of the late ’60s – early ’70s. Being a very personal album, which delves into the life of Van De Sfroos, “MANOGLIA” preserves all the human and musical facets of the singer-songwriter, accompanied, on a completely acoustic rhythm, sometimes by the piano, other times by a banjo or manouche guitars, electroacoustic or played with a “slide” technique, by a double bass and typical Asian and African instruments.

Dopo l’uscita dell’ultimo album di inediti “MANOGLIA” , DAVIDE VAN DE SFROOS annuncia il “MANOGLIA TOUR” che inizierà il 9 febbraio 2024 dal Teatro Nuovo di Arcore per poi proseguire nei principali teatri italiani e svizzeri, arrivando il 29 febbraio al Teatro Arcimboldi per una data speciale.

Il “MANOGLIA TOUR” è nuova e straordinaria avventura in cui DAVIDE VAN DE SFROOS porterà sul palco brani storici della sua trentennale carriera e le canzoni del nuovo disco.

Un’occasione speciale per il cantautore che prosegue il suo viaggio live , seguendo sempre un itinerario emotivo oltre che geografico, per abbracciare ancora il suo pubblico , nella dimensione intima per eccellenza che è quella dei teatri , per camminare tra strade e persone che collegano un passato fatto di memorie, nostalgie, storie, valori ed esperienze a cui continuare ad attingere e a rendere omaggio, il presente come spazio e momento di equilibrio, di presa di fiato e di coscienza e come terreno di speranza e un futuro che non si può prevedere né manovrare ma che tiene sicuramente lo sguardo e le intenzioni a tempi lontani.

«Mi sono abituato, suonando nei teatri, a comprendere che proprio per il tipo di acustica e di attenzione del pubblico, una sezione ritmica troppo pesante in questo luogo risulta inutile. Quando poi hai a che fare con un disco come “Manoglia”, che è addirittura acustico, sarebbe addirittura sciocco esagerare o mettere in scaletta, al fianco di questi brani, brani totalmente differenti dal punto di vista dell’arrangiamento e dello spirito. – racconta Van De Sfroos . Però la provocazione c’è; svuoteremo alcuni brani storici rendendoli più morbidi, più acustici e dilatati, magari aggiungendo qualche ritmica interessante a brani di “Manoglia” come “Zia Nora”, “La Ballata del Mascheraio”. Poi ovviamente, proprio per uno spettacolo di questo tipo, nella creazione della scaletta cercheremo dei brani che possano star bene con questo mood; siccome il disco è diventato dal punto di vista dei colori e dei suoni molto concettuale, andremo a cercare alcuni brani del passato che stiano bene dentro la sfera di “Manoglia”. Penseremo a una batteria con ampio respiro, con anche delle spazzole, percussioni presenti ma morbide, l’organico della band ci sarà, come la ritmica, non può essere tutto vuoto. Sicuramente è molto stimolante lavorare su un disco così, proprio perché siamo in teatro. Se i concerti nelle piazze o all’aperto sono molto potenti a livello di energia e di spinta un po’ rock-folk, il teatro permette di affondare dentro un tipo di sound diverso, è un luogo che ha un magnetismo tutto suo che ti consente di cambiare linguaggio, specialmente nei confronti del pubblico. Puoi rivolgerti quasi più intimamente agli spettatori, raccontando frammenti di storie con calma, puoi dedicarti di più alla poetica piuttosto che all’irruenza del brano e, ovviamente, emergono tutti quei colori che solo in teatro possono venir fuori. Sicuramente non mancheranno in scaletta pezzi del passato, magari inseriremo brani che sono nati già un po’ in “stile Manoglia”, altri li adatteremo al mood acustico con un pizzico di arrangiamento; la missione è quella di creare uno spettacolo che abbia una giusta credibilità di suono, tra canzoni nuove e più datate. L’avventura si fa interessante».

Sul palco DAVIDE VAN DE SFROOS sarà accompagnato dai suoi fidati musicisti:

Angapiemage Galiano Persico (violino, mandolino, percussioni, cori), Paolo Cazzaniga (chitarra acustica ed elettrica, cori), Andrea Cusmano (fisarmonica, trombone, flauti, plettri etnici, cori), Daniele Caldarini (pianoforte, tastiere, plettri), Silvio Centamore (batteria e percussioni), Matteo Luraghi (basso, plettri).  

L’album “MANOGLIA” (BMG/MyNina), entrato in Top 10 nella classifica dei dischi e vinili più venduti in Italia, è disponibile solamente in vinile, in versione vinile colorato in edizione limitata e numerata, in CD e in download.

“MANOGLIA” contiene 11 tracce inedite che hanno preso vita negli anni e sono rimaste gelosamente custodite in un cassetto, o in una tasca come amuleti, in attesa fosse maturo il tempo per venire alla luce.

Brani che Davide, inizialmente, ha scritto per se stesso e ha conservato in una cantina speciale, nei suoi taccuini pieni di annotazioni naturali ed emotive , come fossero testimonianza di esperienze, pensieri, momenti vissuti , e che ora, pur mantenendo un sacro carattere intimistico e personale , il cantautore ha deciso di  far uscire dalla penombra per permettere loro di fiorire , in segno di rinascita e ripartenza .

Questo disco, dalla profonda impronta naturalistica e ambientale , e che possiamo immaginare scritto in un prato, in un grande spazio aperto, come si evince anche dal titolo “MANOGLIA” (“magnolia” in dialetto laghée), è per Van De Sfroos un grande albero da cui germogliano le 11 foglie che, in autunno, il 13 ottobre precisamente, scenderanno verso l’ascoltatore, già abbracciato dalle radici di questa pianta cresciute negli anni e in questi mesi che verranno.

I semi piantati nella “serra artistica e creativa” di Davide, curati con pazienza, costanza e amore, daranno vita a questo splendido esemplare di “MANOGLIA” sotto cui l’ascoltatore potrà sedersi per coglierne e apprezzarne tutti i colori e gli odori, lasciandosi permeare da un senso di magia aprendo così un dialogo con quel materiale che è il legno, capace di comunicare gentilezza e calore nel suo vivere e trasformarsi costantemente regalando la sua memoria attraverso i suoi nodi.

“MANOGLIA” , che ironicamente Davide definisce un album “ricco di tormentoni autunnali” , arriva dopo la fortunata pubblicazione, in digitale e in versione doppio vinile (in Top 10 della Classifica FIMI/GfK dei vinili più venduti in Italia), del disco “DAVIDE VAN DE SFROOS – LIVE 2022” ed è un disco in cui, pur se in veste inedita, troviamo il folk tipico di Van De Sfroos la cui potenza usuale, rimanendo preponderante, lascia qui maggiore spazio e terreno fertile a sfumature, chiaroscuri , a sonorità e strumenti acustici , alla loro morbidezza . Un album intimistico , ricercato , che attinge da diverse culture e generi musicali , dalla piega vagamente psichedelica , in riferimento alla psichedelia acustica della fine degli anni ‘60 – inizio dei ‘70. Essendo un disco molto personale , che scava nella vita di Van De Sfroos, “MANOGLIA” custodisce tutte le sfaccettature umane e musicali del cantautore , accompagnate, su una ritmica completamente acustica , talvolta dal pianoforte , altre volte da un banjo o da chitarre manouche , elettroacustiche o suonate con tecnica “slide” , da un contrabbasso e da strumenti tipici di Asia e Africa .

LONDON (AP) — British cyclist Luke Rowe, who played a role in five Tour de France victories for three different leaders, will retire at the end of the season, his Ineos Grenadiers team said Friday.

The 34-year-old Rowe, a good classic rider, has been with the team which was previously known as Sky since 2012.

He took part in eight consecutive editions of the Tour, helping Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas and Egan Bernal to victory, often in the role of road captain.

Rowe had signed a new 2-year contract to remain with Ineos Grenadiers through to 2025 but decided to bring forward his retirement by a season after getting injured in a crash during the E3 Saxo Classic in March.

“I’ve had an amazing career and I have absolutely no regrets,” he said. “But the last 18 months have been testing in different ways and with this latest crash and resulting injury, it just feels like now is the right time to bow out, head home to Wales and spend a bit more time with my family.”

Rowe says he still hopes to race again this year, “with the Tour of Britain being my dream race to end on.”

Cansei de Ser Sexy reunion tour is a party and a wake

After an 11-year hiatus, singer Lovefoxxx reflects on the Brazilian quartet’s legacy before a show at the Black Cat on Friday

Pop music in 2003, when the band Cansei de Ser Sexy was formed in São Paulo by a group of friends, was marked by a particular turn-of-the-millennium vibe: glittery, bright, experimental and expressive, defined by DIY ethics and not a small note of debauchery.

The moment was fleeting. And Cansei de Ser Sexy’s lead singer, Lovefoxxx, assumed the band’s existence would be similarly brief.

“I didn’t expect it to last for two months,” she says on Zoom from her home in São Paulo. “I just thought to myself, ‘If this band lasts for one show and I’m not there dancing, onstage and performing, I’m going to feel a lot of FOMO.’”

She ended up dancing and performing onstage with CSS for a decade before the group stopped touring in 2013.

The vibrant singer (born Luísa Matsushita) kept busy during CSS’s 11-year hiatus; she became a full-time painter, bought land in a beach town on Brazil’s southern coast, built earthships and learned about permaculture (using her airline miles from touring) in far-flung places. The possibility of another tour wasn’t on her radar until a British promoter nudged her and the band to consider a reunion.

Now the quartet is dusting off hits like “Let’s Make Love and Listen to Death From Above” and “Music Is My Hot Hot Sex” (you might remember the latter from a viral iPod commercial ) for a farewell tour that will take them across the United States and Europe, retracing routes worn by their years of party rocking. Lovefoxxx is most excited for the smell.

“American venues, old venues, sometimes they have a certain smell from the construction or something,” she says. “I want to feel this smell and to revisit places. Everything changed so much because for me, this [break] feels like three years. But it’s been a lifetime.”

It certainly has. In the years since CSS (named for a translation of a Beyoncé quote about how she was “tired of being sexy”) stopped performing live, the band has been embraced by nostalgic TikTokers who’ve rebranded the sound of the mid-2000s as “indie sleaze.” Lovefoxxx says the title resonates.

“From all the labels we’ve had, this one translates best the era and the energy,” she says. “It translates the humor of the time. … CSS was always a place where we put this silly energy first.”

That’s just another way she’s been thinking about her group’s legacy, which — among the fun, flirty degeneracy — is also inextricably tied to the era of file sharing when music moved freely online between the lucky few who stumbled upon it or sought it, not served by an algorithm.

“I feel that the connection that people had with us was finding something special,” Lovefoxxx says. It was part of what made the early aughts “the right moment, the right time for us.”

So besides a pungent dressing room, how do you relive that experience? Lovefoxxx isn’t trying to, but the tour is weighing on her, since she suspects it will probably be the band’s last. She says she’s been crying in the days leading up to our call, and she’s crying now. They seem to be mostly happy tears.

“I would like to be anchored in the moment rather than living in the past. I’m not going to be a caricature of what I used to be,” she says. “It’s nice to finish off with a lot of life involved and not just fall apart. We’re going to finish in a very enthusiastic way, which is very CSS.”
