Places To Visit Near Hyderabad Airport

If your flight is delayed from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, you do not have to sit idle at the airport as there are plenty of places near to it that can be visited to keep you interested. You can keep yourself busy, enjoy the places, have some great Hyderabadi cuisine and get back to the airport in time to catch your flight from the city. Hyderabad boasts of some superb specialty dishes that can be awesome for a change. 1. Katta Maisamma Temple

It is just 0.8 kilometers from the city and is a beautiful temple that residents of the city flock in large numbers. You can offer a Puja over here and if you happen to be here during the month of July, you can even see devotees celebrate the 'Bonalu' festival with fervor. It is dedicated to the Goddess Maisamma that is a manifestation of strength.

2. Begumpet Mosque

It is also known as the Spanish Mosque and is a majestic looking structure that is located at 0.9 kilometers from the airport. If you happen to love architecture and state-of-the-art interiors, this mosque can keep you interested. It is built along the lines of a famous Spanish mosque called the Cathedral-Mosque of Cordoba, Spain. Instead of the customary domes or minarets, this mosque has spires and that lends it a unique look which can be admired.

3. Indira Park

It is only 1.3 kilometers from the airport and is a beautiful green space for morning jogging and walks. If fitness is what inspires you, you can visit the park and enjoy its greenery. It is constructed over an area of more than two acres and you can even enjoy a serene boat ride in the facility. There is a manmade desert in the park that can be quite an attraction.

4. Balkampet Yellamma Temple

The temple is at a distance of 1.4 kilometers from the airport and offers a pleasant getaway for any visitor. Anyone can visit it and offer Pujas apart from getting many types of souvenirs or conventional children's toys from the many shops that are located outside it. If you happen to be here during the Bonaalu festival, you can enjoy the pomp and gaiety with which it is celebrated yearly.

5. Buddha Statue

The 58 feet gigantic Buddha Statue in the middle of the Hussain Sagar Lake is the world's largest monolithic statue of the Buddha and is undoubtedly one of the attractions of the city. It is situated only 2.9 kilometers from the airport and there are boat rides that are conducted in the lake to reach the statue base. The lighting of the statue at night is quite attractive and glamorous.

6. Jalavihar Water Park

This water park is situated at only a distance of 1.9 kilometers from the airport and has the country's largest wave pool. So, if you are an adrenaline junkie, it is the place to be so that you can enjoy some mind-blowing water sports, and get some real adventure on the dry rides and wave pool. There is also a mini train for kids and a food court where some delicious palates can be enjoyed.

7. O2 Spa Vivanta By Taj Hotel

If you want to groom yourself before the flight, you can always visit the O2 Spa which is a mere 0.7 kilometers from the airport. It is an ideal place for getting a superb spa treatment. The Aromatherapy massage provided here can be one of its best services and you can definitely try it out apart from many others. While coming from Warangal, take left turn at Bhupathipet and reach the falls via Chinnayellapur. Apart from the waterfall, there are several lakes nearby which can be visited as well. There are idols of Lord Shiva and Nagadevatha in a small enclosure near the falls where visitor perform poojas. Best time to visit the waterfalls is during monsoons. Large number of tourists visit this place during weekends and on holidays.

43. Nelakondapalli

At a distance of 22 km from Khammam, 111 km from Nalgonda and 200 km from Hyderabad, Nelakondapalli is an important Buddhist excavation site in Telangana located in Khammam District. Nelakondapalli is a historic Buddhist site with Stupas and Buddha idols. The site was found during the excavations conducted in 1977. Excavations have unearthed foundations of brick built Viharas, wells, cisterns, a Mahastupa, a bronze idol of Buddha, a miniature Stupa carved in limestone and other materials from the third and fourth centuries. Nelakondapalli is associated with the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The Virata Raju Dibba and Keechaka Gundam, archaeological evidences from the period of the Mahabharata are located 1.6 km from Nelakondapalli. Nelakondapalli is also famous of being the Birth Place of Kancharla Gopanna, popularly known as Bhakta Ramadas who built popular Bhadrachalm temple. There are few ancient temples in the village of Nelakondapalli. The old Residence of Bhakta Ramadas was named as Bhakta Ramadas Dhyana Mandir and its currently maintained by Bhadrachala Devastanam. The Buddhist excavation site is about 3 km from Nelakondapalli Bus stop.

44. Chilukur Balaji Temple

At a distance of 24 km from Nampally Railway Station & 18 km from Golconda Fort, Chilkur is a small village on the banks of Osmansagar that houses famous 500 Years old Sri Balaji temple. This is one of the most popular tourist places in Hyderabad . Also, famed as 'Visa Balaji', this deity at Chilkur showers blessings on the devotees who for any reason are unable to go to Tirupati . As per the local legend, anyone desirous of seeking a wish fulfillment from Chilkur Balaji must first make 11 pradakshinas at the temple and after it's granted, one must return to perform 108 pradakshinas as a way of expressing gratitude. It is also the only temple in India that does not accept any money from the devotees and does not have a hundi. Approximately, 15,000 to 20,000 devotees visit the shrine during the week, but on Fridays and Saturdays, the temple gets close to 100,000 devotees. Many of whom come to pray to Balaji for visas to travel or move to the US and other Western countries. Timings: 5 AM to 9 PM.

At a distance of 30 kms from Nampally Railway Station, Keesara Gutta is known for the famous Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple. This is one of the popular pilgrimage sites to visit around Hyderabad. The presiding deity of the Temple is Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy accompanied by Sri Bhavani and Sri Shiva Durga. The temple is recently renovated. Around this temple, there are a number of ruined shrines in the Gupta architecture of fifth century. There are scores of meter-high lingas the phallic symbol around the main deity. To Hindus, these lingas signify life and fertility. The base of these lingas is set in a base structure that signifies the womb. A nice park is laid down recently at bottom of this temple. 46. Sanghi Temple

At a distance of 25 kms from Nampally Railway Station (near NH9 towards Vijayawada) Sanghi Temple is a picturesque complex with 15 feet tall sacred Raja Gopuram. It is situated in a hillock called as Paramanand Giri. This is one of the popular pilgrimage site & tourist place to visit around Hyderabad. There are 3 tall gopurams seen at the foot of the hillock. The presiding deity of the complex is Lord Venkateshwara, 9.5 feet tall structure. The majestic temple complex is built in the Chola-Chalukya style of architecture. There are small temples inside the complex dedicated to Padmavati, Shiva, Rama, Anjaneya, Ganesha, Navagrahas, Goddess Ashtalakshimi, Durga and Kartikeya. There is also a Pavitra Vanam or a holy garden in the temple complex where special leaves and flowers are grown for performing poojas. Timings: 8 AM to 12 PM & 4 PM to 8 PM.

47. Osman Sagar Lake / Gandipet

At a distance of 22 Kms from Nampally Railway Station & 11 km from Golconda Fort, Osman Sagar Lake, popularly known as Gandipet is an artificial lake constructed over River Musi. The reservoir occupies a total area of around 30 sq km. This is one of the popular tourist places to visit near Hyderabad. It was built in 1920 to provide drinking water source for Hyderabad , and also saving the city from floods. It is named after Osman Ali Khan, The Last Nizam of Hyderabad. The road over the reservoir gates offer good views and cool breeze. There are a couple of parks attached to the lake, one at the entrance and the other one close to the reservoir road. Though no official boating facilities are available in the lake as this is used for drinking water purpose, small private boats and coracles do operate in the peak monsoons near the northern end of the park. At a distance of 60 km Nagajuna Sagar, 30 Kms from Srisailam and 173 km from Hyderabad, the Nagarjuna Sagar - Srisailam Sanctuary (or Srisailam Sanctuary) is the largest tiger reserve in the country, spread across 3568 Sq. Kms. It is spread between Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir & Srisailam reservoir. It was declared a sanctuary in 1973 and was incorporated under Project Tiger a decade later.
