TaylorMade unveils new junior sets complete with 3 sizing options

TaylorMade's new junior clubs not only improve the fitting experience by having more options but come with helpful tips and drills.

TaylorMade Golf

It’s always an exciting experience to see a junior golfer get their first set of clubs, and TaylorMade is looking to make that experience even more enjoyable with the introduction of the Team TaylorMade junior club series.

The new junior clubs from TaylorMade not only improve the fitting experience by having more options, but they also come with access to exclusive content from Team TaylorMade athletes and ambassadors to help parents and kids with tips and drills to jumpstart their skill development.

Designed with a purpose

full set clubs Taylormade juior

Each set of Team TaylorMade junior clubs have been developed to help golfers achieve the proper fundamentals with the help of lightweight shafts and heads to make the clubs forgiving and easy to swing.

The 400cc driver offers a super low center of gravity, while the fairway wood and hybrid have a low profile to make them easy to hit and get up into the air — because few things bring a new golfer joy like watching a ball take off and carry down the fairway.

Taylormade junior clubs 2024

Just like many of TaylorMade’s adult clubs, the irons come with inverted cone technology and thin faces to increase MOI. To give an example of the weight savings achieved through the sets, the heavy 7-iron head weight is 248 grams while the light 7-iron is only 205 grams. To put that into perspective, a standard P-series iron has a 7-iron head weight of 270 grams.

To complete the sets, they each come with a properly sized bag, plus headcovers, which are stain-resistant and ergonomically designed for growing golfers.

Rio’s Olympic Golf Course is the main attraction this week

Rio’s Olympic Golf Course is the main attraction this week

Change Text Size

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Known as Brazil’s wonderful city – ‘ Cidade Maravilhosa’ – Rio de Janeiro provides a one-of-a-kind setting for the 69 th playing of the ECP Brazil Open, the first PGA TOUR Americas event in South America. Starting this afternoon, the tournament is being hosted by the Gil Hanse-designed Olympic Golf Course, the venue where Justin Rose became golf’s first gold medal winner in 112 years during the 2016 Rio Games.

With the Brazilian Golf Confederation and the Rio Olympic Course partnering with PGA TOUR Americas, the ECP Brazil Open is coming here for the third time. The tournament was played at this venue in back-to-back PGA TOUR Latinoamérica seasons in 2016 and 2017.

“I have great memories from this place, and I was very pumped to get back here this week and play it,” said Joseph Winslow, who tied for ninth the one time he played here in 2017.

“When you get to play a place that was designed specifically for the Olympics, you know it's always going to be a pretty special course to go out there and play. I’m very excited to be a part of PGA TOUR Americas’ playing at this place this week”, added the 31-year-old from Overland Park, Kansas.

pga tour junior golf club set

At 7,163 yards long and playing at a par 71, the Olympic Golf Course was created to challenge the world’s best golfers at the Rio Games, but it was also meant to serve the development of golf in the region. The course has welcomed the Brazilian Amateur Championships for the past few years, and it remains in championship shape.

“It’s my first time here and the course surprised me for the better. Some holes play pretty tough, but others provide scoring opportunities depending on the way the wind is blowing. It’s a course that demands some good strategic plan,” said Jesús Montenegro of Argentina, who holds the third spot in the Fortinet Cup standings after back-to-back top-10 finishes to start the season.

Built on a former sand quarry along saltwater marshes and lagoons near the Atlantic Ocean, this golf course is pretty unique within the region. Although it resembles the typical links courses, Hanse’s inspiration was drawn from the classic Sandbelt courses outside Melbourne, Australia. Greens are slanted, with several hole locations demanding precise tee shots to set up an unobstructed approach. There is no rough, but there are several other challenges as the wind.

Born and raised in Te Puke, New Zealand, Harry Hillier feels right at home playing down here. “I played a lot of junior golf in Melbourne and a lot of the shots, you kind of nailed on the head with it, it's very familiar for me. It's the lies, the way the ball is bouncing, the way the ball reacts, it's very familiar to me. I am looking forward to competing out here. It's one of the better golf courses we get to play and exciting to see how the game will hold up throughout the week,” said the 24-year-old.

pga tour junior golf club set

With his older brother moving up to the Korn Ferry Tour after winning this event last year at Fazenda Boa Vista, outside the city of Sao Paulo, Harry is a sort of designated defending champion. “We were sitting in our apartment last week and he said, ‘You better bring home the silverware.’ So, there's no pressure on his part, he's just putting it all on me. So, I'm looking forward to seeing if the Hillier name can hold up two years in a row,” added the University of Kansas alum.

In all, 22 players in this week’s field have made at least one ECP Brazil Open start at the Rio Olympic Course. Mexico’s José de Jesús Rodríguez, who is coming off a win at the Totalplay Championship at Atlas Country Club and holds the Fortinet Cup standings lead, has the best record among them. He tied for eighth in 2016 and then shared runner-up honors in 2017.

“We played here a few years ago and although I kind of forgot some holes, it brings back great memories,” said the 43-year-old veteran. “It is a tough course, one that will require a lot of patience because the wind plays a fundamental factor.”

The 69th ECP Brazil Open is the third event of the PGA TOUR Americas inaugural season. Originally scheduled to begin at 6:40 a.m. Thursday, its opening round start was pushed to 1 p.m. due to inclement weather early in the day.

Pga championship 101: history, qualifications and this year at valhalla golf club.

  • Golf Channel Digital ,
  • Golf Channel Digital

Take a look at some answers to frequently asked questions about the PGA Championship:

Still holding down the second spot?

Correct. The PGA Championship moved from the major finale in August to the second of the season in May, in 2019. Then 2020 came and the golf calendar was reorganized because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The PGA was contested again in August, after the U.S. Open and ahead of the Masters. Things returned to order in ’21 and, for the foreseeable future, the PGA of America’s crown jewel sits in its spring spot.

Wait, isn’t this the championship of the PGA Tour?

Sigh. No, this is not the championship of the PGA Tour. That would be considered The Players Championship. This is the championship of the PGA of America.

Why the need to designate “of America”? What else would it be – the PGA of Timbuktu?

Obviously we need a history lesson here. We’ll keep it as brief as possible. There used to be one PGA – the “of America” one, which was founded in 1916. In 1968, action was begun that resulted in an eventual split into the PGA of America and the PGA Tour.

Why the split?

The original golf pros were the people who work at golf clubs. You know, the ones who sell us logoed ball markers and take our green fees when they’re not trying to cure our slices by giving us lessons. The better players among them also played the national tournament circuit.

As golf grew in popularity and tournaments became more lucrative, a class of pros evolved who were tournament players first and foremost. If they held a club job, it was often ceremonial.

Over time, more of these pros discarded the idea of working at a club at all, instead devoting full time to tournament play.

OK, I follow you so far.

So now you had one organization, the PGA of America, trying to represent the interests of two entirely different types of “golf pros.” No surprise that the root of the dispute was money, specifically what to do with what was becoming a windfall in rights fees from the TV networks. The tournament players, a group that included Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, wanted that money to go to increased tournament purses, while the club pros wanted it to go into the PGA’s general fund. Eventually the touring pros broke off on their own. The PGA of America remained in place, representing the traditional “club” pros.

If the PGA of America was no longer going to represent the interests of tournament players, why does it still have a championship? And why is it a major?

It wanted to keep the PGA Championship alive for many reasons, not the least of which is that it generates considerable revenue. As for your second question, that is a big ol’ can of worms for another day. We will say this, however. For most of the PGA Championship’s existence, it has had a justifiable status as a major. Whether that will ever change, whether it will ever be replaced in the major rotation by The Players Championship is anyone’s guess. But golf is a game that respects – and clings to – tradition.

Anything else about its history that sets it apart?

The most obvious thing is that from its inception in 1916 through 1957, the PGA was a match-play tournament. It has been periodically suggested that it return to match play, but that is not considered likely. Prior to the shift to May in 2019, it was previously held during this month in 1949, when Sam Snead won.

PGA Championship - Final Round

We get the May thing, but why no longer match play?

Worst-case scenario – all the highly seeded “name” players get eliminated before the final. If you’re a TV network that has spent big bucks to televise this event, do you want two guys you’re never heard of in the final?

Speaking of the final, what’s the name of the winner’s trophy?

It’s called the Wanamaker Trophy, and it was named after Rodman Wanamaker, a department store magnate who was influential in the formation of the PGA.

How does a player qualify for this major?

There are 13 ways, based on the 2023 criteria (will be updated when PGA releases full 2024 criteria):

  • All former winners of the PGA Championship
  • Winners of the last five Masters (2019-23)
  • Winners of the last five U.S. Opens (2018-22)
  • Winners of the last five Open Championships (2017-22) [Note: Canceled in 2020]
  • Winners of the last three Players Championships (2021-23)
  • The top three on the OWGR’s International Federation Ranking List as of April 24, 2023
  • Winner of 2022 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship
  • The top 15 finishers and ties from the 2022 PGA Championship
  • The top 20 finishers from the 2023 PGA Professional Championship
  • The top 70 players who are eligible and have earned the most PGA Championship points from the 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson through the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship (ending May 7, 2023)
  • Playing members of the last named U.S. and European Ryder Cup teams (2021), provided they remain in the top 100 on the Official World Golf Rankings as of May 7, 2023
  • Winners of PGA Tour co-sponsored or approved tournaments whose victories are considered official, from the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge through the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson
  • If necessary to complete the 156-person field, those players beyond the top 70 players who are eligible and who have earned the most PGA Championship points from the 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson through the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship (ending May 7, 2023) in order of their position on such a list

Are LIV Golf players eligible?

Yes, as long as they meet the above criteria.

I probably should have asked this a lot earlier, but what does PGA stand for?

Professional Golfers’ Association. Remember, in the early years of the 20th century, pros were looked down upon. It was only natural that they band together under one umbrella organization.

Let’s get to the tournament itself. The Masters has Jack Nicklaus winning at age 46 in 1986 and Tiger Woods’ remarkable turns in ’97 and ’19. The U.S. Open has 20-year-old Francis Ouimet upsetting two of the top British pros in 1913 and Arnold Palmer’s charge in 1960. The Open Championship has the Duel in the Sun in 1977 and Woods destroying the field in 2000. So, what have been the most memorable PGAs?

It would be hard to beat a then-unknown John Daly winning in 1991. He got into the tournament as ninth – ninth! – alternate, then torched the course with a combination of absurdly long driving and incredible touch around the greens. Then there was Bob Tway holing a final-hole bunker shot to beat Greg Norman in 1986 – something we didn’t yet know would become a trend. And who could have predicted that the player who would give Woods his toughest test would be one of his former junior-golf rivals, Bob May, who did everything except beat him in 2000? And, of course, there was 2021, when Phil Mickelson, at age 51, became the oldest-ever major champion.

What happened last year?

Brooks Koepka won his third Wanamaker trophy at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, New York. The LIV Golf player shot 72-66-66-67 to win by two shots over Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler.

Who has won the most PGA Championships?

Nicklaus and Walter Hagen have each won five times. Woods has won four times. Woods has twice won back-to-back in this major, in 1999-2000 and 2006-07.

Where are they playing?

Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The venue is owned by the PGA of America and has hosted three PGA Championships. Mark Brooks won in a playoff over Kenny Perry in 1996. Tiger Woods prevailed in a playoff over Bob May in 2000. And, Rory McIlroy beat Phil Mickelson by a stroke in 2014. Valhalla also hosted the 2008 Ryder Cup, won by the U.S.

Former Alabama prep star picks Vanderbilt over PGA Tour

Gordon Sargent had the opportunity to join the PGA Tour in June. Instead, the former Mountain Brook High School golfer announced on Thursday that he will return to Vanderbilt for another season of golf.

The No. 1 player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking had earned PGA Tour membership through PGA Tour University Accelerated.

The program awards points to college freshmen, sophomores and juniors for accomplishments in college, other amateur and professional tournaments. Sargent became the first player to earn enough points before the end of his junior season for PGA Tour membership through PGA Tour University Accelerated.

“It’s been an honor to represent this university alongside my teammates and coaches,” Sargent said in a social-media post, “and I look forward to continuing to compete –and further my education – at this amazing place that has given so much to me.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me on this journey, and I’m excited for this final chapter at Vanderbilt.”

Under the program, Sargent still can accept PGA Tour membership in June 2025, and he will have exempt status through the 2026 season.

In an interview with the PGA Tour , Sargent said he talked to former Alabama golfer Nick Dunlap while making his decision.

Dunlap became the first amateur to win a PGA Tour tournament since 1991 when he beat the pros at The American Express on Jan. 20. The victory earned Dunlap the opportunity to join the PGA Tour immediately, and he left the Crimson Tide golf team .

In seven tournaments since turning pro, Dunlap’s best finish is tied for 11th at the Texas Children’s Houston Open on March 31. He’s also missed the cut three times.

“There’s not going to be a perfect answer,” Sargent told the PGA Tour. “After playing a few college events in the spring, I think you really appreciate how much you enjoy college golf. I’ve talked to Nick a little bit since he’s turned pro, and it’s one of those things where you’re only going to have four years in college. My dream is playing on the PGA Tour. With having the same status if I come back to school for one year, it was kind of a no-brainer. I can still take advantage of another year of school, be with my teammates, get my degree and continue to get better.

“If you talk to anybody who’s played college golf, they really do say it’s the best time of your life. I definitely valued that. I don’t think anybody was going to be mad at me if I left or mad at me if I stayed. But after reviewing with my parents, coaches and team-wise, it just seemed like it was the best thing for me.”

In 2021, Sargent won the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A boys’ golf individual championship playing for Mountain Brook. Sargent’s victories also include the Alabama Golf Association’s Alabama Junior in 2019 and the State Amateur in 2020 and 2021. In 2022, Sargent won the NCAA Division I men’s golf individual championship as a freshman at Vanderbilt.

The best golf clubs in moscow: luxury, exclusivity, and entertainment.

  • The Best Golf Clubs in…

In Russia, the western concept of building architecturally beautiful golf courses filled with modern and luxurious amenities has found fertile ground. What was considered a frivolous pastime during the time of the Soviets has become the latest trend for the stylish set. These days, there are countless options around Moscow to practice golf, polo, ski, yachting, and other sports alongside 5-star hotels, luxurious country houses, and magnificent villas.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. Golf courses are also meeting and socializing spaces where Muscovite tycoons can relax and also seal business deals.

Golf Courses in Russia

The Moscow Country Club, Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club, Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club, and Zavidovo Golf Club, PGA National Russia are some of the most exclusive and elegant golf courses in Russia. Some of them have made it to the list of Top 15 golf clubs in the world, a source of great prestige for the country.

The first 18-hole golf course built in Russia, Moscow Country Club, hosts the exclusive PGA European Tour. Located just eight miles from the city center, this luxurious facility was created by architect Robert Trent Jones Jr . The design takes advantage of a typical Russian birch and spruce forest to provide a natural environment of extraordinary beauty.

The Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is 18 miles from the heart of Moscow, close to historical monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries. Designed by famed architects Paul and Dave Thomas , this 18-hole course is part of a complex that includes a yacht club, an equestrian center, and a health and wellness facility. Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is Russia’s version of a classic country club with multiple attractions.

This park is among the best in Eastern Europe and was awarded the 2014 World Golf Award as the best golf course in Russia. Located 25 miles from Moscow, it is part of a vast complex featuring an 18-hole golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus , a polo club and a mountain ski club with four tracks. The design combines classic Scottish, Alpine, and English features in a dreamy landscape.

Less than 60 miles from Moscow, this golf course with a definite Scottish design is the only one in Russia recognized as a PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) from Britain and Ireland. Located in an ecologically pristine area on the banks of the Volga River, the Zavidovo Golf Club embodies the spirit and appearance of the legendary Scottish golf courses. Its many springs and streams, hills, forests, swamps and lakes justify its reputation as a very demanding circuit. Last year, it entered the exclusive club of the 15 best golf courses in the world.   ■

Wolstenholme ready to take on Moscow

August 16, 2018.

Gary Wolstenholme is preparing himself for ‘a test of golf' at Moscow Country Club with the VTB Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior) set to get under way on Friday.

And Wolstenhome, a three-time winner on the Staysure Tour, has played Moscow Country Club on two previous occasions and he is relishing the chance to tackle a course which he believes is in better condition than ever.

“This is the third time I've been here and I've become more impressed with the golf course as I've played it,” said Wolstenholme. “I think the golf course is definitely in a lot better condition than when we were here three or four years ago.

“The weather's been very difficult, so the green staff have had to work very hard to make this such a good venue. The design of the golf course is an extremely good test.

“It's long and it creates a test for players to play both right-to-left and left-to-right shots which, if you're a golfer, you appreciate that creates more of a test in itself.

“I think the course lends itself to long hitting, especially with the weather that we had last night as the course is pretty long anyway.

“Magnus P Atlevi, Stephen Dodd, Phil Price, from Wales, and Phil Golding, who won at London Golf Club recently, all stand out to me as having a chance to do well, but golf being golf, who knows? I might even do well! It's such a good test, I think only a very good player will do well here.”

Golf is an emerging sport in Russia and Moscow Country Club is at the forefront of the quest to encourage more of the country's natives to start playing.

Wolstenhome, GB&I's record points scorer at the Walker Cup who also received an MBE in 2007 for services to golf, has outlined both what he thinks is needed to grow the game, and some of the benefits which accompany it.

“To me, I think driving ranges are the future as far as giving people an opportunity to play the game,” he said.

“Short golf is the future, as are par three tournaments and things like that. To me, that's where we can get golf going in the future.

“Golf has the opportunity to be able to cross dividing lines, whether it's social or cultural. The great thing about golf is wherever you go in the world – and there are golf courses everywhere – from war-torn areas to the most affluent areas in the world, you transcend that.

“You can have somebody who is the lowest of the low from the point of view of not earning a great amount of money to multi-millionaires. You share that enjoyment of what is actually an incredibly difficult sport.”

Joining Wolstenholme in Russia this week is Staysure PGA Seniors Championship winner Philip Golding, Order of Merit Number Five Phillip Price, WINSTONgolf Senior Open champion Stephen Dodd and 1989 European Tour Number One Ronan Rafferty

The action begins in Russia on Friday August 17, with José Manuel Carriles and Jean Pierre Sallat the first group to tee off at 8.00am local time (BST+2).

(left-to-right) Scott McLean, European Tour Greenkeeping Consultant, Andrei Dukhovny, Director of Moscow Country Club, David MacLaren, Head of European Tour Properties, Mary Bazhenova, Golf Membership Manager of Moscow Country Club and Konstantin Gribkov, Golf Director of Moscow Country Club.

European Tour Properties has extended its portfolio of Destinations by welcoming Moscow Country Club as the 28 th  venue within its extensive network of world-class venues.

Situated only an hour outside of Moscow, the club features Russia’s first 18-hole championship course and will host the Staysure Tour’s VTB Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior) from August 17-19, 2018.

The Country Club combines five-star hospitality with top-quality golf in a tranquil setting close to the Russian capital, and this new partnership extends the network to 28 venues within 21 countries, across three continents.

The course itself was designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones II and is nestled within dense Russian forest of thick firs and birches, offering a fascinating landscape for any golfer.

In addition to golf, Moscow Country Club features a five-star hotel, cottages and townhouses to rent throughout the year, and a choice of eight restaurants for guests to enjoy.

With an indoor and outdoor pool, state-of-the-art gym, tennis courts and other leisure activities, the extensive facilities at Moscow Country Club make the venue a strong addition to European Tour Properties’ network.

David MacLaren, Head of European Tour Properties, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Moscow Country Club as the 28th member of our network of world-class venues and particularly pleased to welcome our first Destination in Russia.

“Moscow Country Club is both a fine golf resort and an established tournament venue. Our other Venues are sure to welcome the further expansion of our network within key geographical locations worldwide.

“In August, Moscow Country Club will host the VTB Russian Open Golf Championship on the Staysure Tour and we look forward to golfers from all over the world visiting our newest Destination.”

Andrei Dukhovny, Director of the GlavUPDK affiliated Moscow Country Club, said: “We are very excited to be part of the European Tour Properties network. We are looking forward to working with their team and using their expertise to enhance our customers’ experience both on and off the course.

“Moscow Country Club is a stand-out Russian golfing destination, with the Staysure Tour set to visit in August for the VTB Russian Open Golf Championship.

“By becoming a European Tour Destination, we are hoping to grow even further and continue developing as a venue.”
