Mean Girls Announces Cast to Relaunch National Tour

Broadway’s queen bees are coming back to the stage.

Nadina Hassan joins the touring cast of Mean Girls as Regina George.

Mean Girls has announced full casting for the relaunch of its first national tour, which kicks off in Tempe, Arizona, on November 2.

Mean Girls features a book by nine-time Emmy Award winner Tina Fey, based on her screenplay for the film, music by three-time Emmy Award winner Jeff Richmond, and lyrics by two-time Tony Award nominee Nell Benjamin. Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs.

Reprising their roles from the 2019-20 season are Danielle Wade as Cady Heron, Megan Masako Haley as Gretchen Wieners, Jonalyn Saxer as Karen Smith, Mary Kate Morrissey as Janis Sarkisian, Eric Huffman as Damian Hubbard, Adante Carter as Aaron Samuels, Kabir Bery as Kevin G, and Lawrence E. Street as Mr. Duvall.

Joining them are Nadina Hassan as Regina George and April Josephine as Mrs. Heron, Ms. Norbury, and Mrs. George.

Rounding out the ensemble are Erica Simone Barnett, English Bernhardt, DeShawn Bowens, Will Branner, Lamont Brown, Morgan Ashley Bryant, Brittany Conigatti, Sarah Crane, Mary Beth Donahoe, Niani Feelings, Sky Flaherty, Samuel Gerber, Dan Horn, Asia Marie Kreitz, Becca Petersen, Olivia Renteria, Grace Romanello, Sydney Mei Ruf-Wong, Marcus Shane, Kaitlyn Louise Smith, and David Wright Jr.

Mean Girls is described as follows: "Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina's reign, she learns the hard way that you can't cross a Queen Bee without getting stung."

Earlier this year, Mean Girls announced plans for the musical to be adapted to a major motion picture from Paramount Pictures , and is finalizing discussions for West End mounting. Mean Girls opened on Broadway in April 2018, earning 12 Tony nominations. The Broadway production announced in January that it would not return following the pandemic.

Theater Review: MEAN GIRLS (National Tour)

STILL TRYING TO MAKE FETCH HAPPEN

The musical adaptation of the 2004 teen comedy film Mean Girls opened on Broadway in April 2018 and was one of the many victims of the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in an early closure on March 11, 2020. The musical book and the original film are written by veteran comedian Tina Fey ( SNL , 30 Rock ). Fey’s husband and longtime collaborator Jeff Richmond composed the score with lyrics written by Nell Benjamin ( Legally Blonde ). The National Tour began in Nov 2021 and has just landed in Los Angeles at the Pantages.

There are many, many die-hard fans of the original movie that can quote scenes from the beginning to the end. I have watched and laughed at the film more than I can count. In all seriousness, Mean Girls the movie is a fantastic piece of storytelling. The film captures American high school girls’ absurdity, idiosyncrasies, and complicated social dynamics. Additionally, the film is highly relatable. Many of us have dealt with a Queen Bee like Regina George and also have, at one point, felt like the new kid Cady Heron. It is the resonance of the storytelling, hilarious characters, and iconic zingy one-liners that the film has amassed a cult following, especially among the queer community.

regina george tour

Indeed, fans of the movie will thoroughly enjoy this musical, as it has preserved memorable moments of the film, including an infamous bus accident, brought to thrilling life by a crackerjack design team. However, the musical lacks the film’s narrative rigor. Additionally, it suffers from having too many underdeveloped subplots and ideas that render the storyline confusing, and often, the creator’s intended message has to be deduced rather than felt.

regina george tour

Unlike the movie, the musical version opens with “A Cautionary Tale,” a duet between Janis Sarkisian ( Lindsay Heather Pierce ) and Damian Hubbard ( Eric Huffman ), who serves as the master of ceremony/narrator of our story. This role would later be quickly abdicated, and, as the play unfolds, their narrative importance in the divergent storylines gets diminished. The opening follows a brilliant cut to our heroine Cady Heron’s journey from Kenya to Chicago in “It Roars.” Cady Heron ( English Bernhardt ) takes the stage as the cast transforms from high school students into animals on the safari, an obvious nod to The Lion King musical.

regina george tour

In “Where Do You Belong?”, the stage is transformed once again into a high school lunch shelter, where an updated list of high school cliques is introduced to Cady. It is clearly noted that any reference to racial and social groups has been cut from this version. “The Plastics” — the North Shore High Social royalty — emerges upstage to take their throne among the students. Queen Bee Regina George ( Nadina Hassan ), gossipy insecure 1st in command Gretchen Wieners ( Jasmin Rodgers ), and beautiful but dim-witted Karen Smith ( Morgan Ashley Bryant ) invite the new girl to join them in “Meet the Plastics”. A gleeful audience responded excitedly to, “But you’re, like, really pretty. So you agree? You think you’re really pretty?”

regina george tour

The rest of the musical becomes a highlight reel of famous scenes from the movie, with small but insignificant updates. Love interest Aaron Samuels ( Adante Carter ) is a more sensitive individual in this adaptation and, strangely, is hardly ever heard from. The most interesting number is perhaps “Whose House Is This?”, performed by the very talented Caleb Mathura as a nerdy try-hard mathlete, Kevin G. The incorporation of hip-hop and rap is ironic and cheesy, but it really showcases the massive talent of the cast. Most importantly, they looked like they had a blast doing that number.

regina george tour

In this musical equivalent of scrapbooking, fan service is the term that comes to mind. Cutting away all necessary narrative transitions and substance, the writing focuses solely on replaying the movie’s greatest hits but doing it with a song. Overall, the cast is wonderfully talented and fun to watch onstage. However, the leads still need vocal maturity. I had trouble discerning the diction and as well as appreciating the strident nature of piercing vocals from our leads. Two individuals really shined in this production. Ms. Rogers, as Gretchen, has a knock-out voice and awesome range. Not only does she express the essence and depth of her character, but her vocal technique is on point and superb. Ms. Bryant as Karen easily wins the audience’s hearts with her carefree charm. The audience always responded warmly to her hilarious one-liners and well timed delivery.

regina george tour

Scott Pask ‘s scenic design marries perfectly with the video design by Finn Ross and Adam Young . While the video walls are sometimes very glaring, especially with blue tones in a dark theater, the usage of the medium is effective for storytelling. Kenneth Posner helps to carry the story with dramatic lighting perfectly coordinated with dramatic moments. The orchestra conducted by Chris Kong gelled well with the cast.

regina george tour

If you are a massive fan of the film and can’t wait to immerse yourself in North Shore High, this is a do not miss. If you are on the fence, watching the movie at home is perfectly adequate.

Dont take this down i wanna promote my shit

Regina George is the main antagonist of the movie and musical Mean Girls and leader of The Plastics . She is portrayed by Rachel McAdams in the movie and Taylor Louderman in the musical. In 2024 musical film , she is portrayed by Reneé Rapp .

  • 1 Biography
  • 2 Physical Appearance
  • 3 Personality
  • 4 Relationship with Cady Heron
  • 5.1 Songs featuring Regina

Regina was raised by wealthy parents and she has a younger sister named Kylie George . Her sense of control, manipulation and superiority may have grown as a result of the way her overly permissive and acquiescent parents raised her.

She is followed around everywhere by her best friends, Karen Smith and Gretchen Wierners, according to Damian Leigh are " just her little workers ."

The special ingredient behind Regina's control was two things – sex appeal and the insecurity of others. Regina only had followers because she mastered making girls feel inferior next to her for her attractiveness and guile, and used male attention to make herself seem and feel superior. For example; Shane Oman and Aaron Samuels are both used as Regina's toys. " She's fabulous but evil ," said Damian.

In her sophomore year, after her spine healed, she played for the Lady Lions Lacrosse team. She became close to Kristen Hadley . She still maintained a mutual respect for Cady Heron , but her appearance didn't change.

Physical Appearance

Regina has long, straight blond hair, fair skin, blue eyes. She has an upturned nose. Her outfit in the promotion is a pink cardigan with a white shirt that says "A Little Bit Dramatic" in pink writing, a light pink miniskirt, and fuchsia pointy-toed heels( invented on 3rd May), Her iconic necklace is gold with a gold ‘R’ pendant.

In the musical, Regina has curled blond hair. Her outfit in the promotion is a pink leather jacket over a light pink shirt, white jeans with a pink belt around her waist, and dark pink heels.

Personality

Regina is intelligent, manipulative, and capable of doing everything in her power to get what she wants. She is not just another high school bully – she is also commonly referred to as the Queen Bee and the original leader of the currently fallen Plastics. For the most part, Regina isn’t just in control of her own destiny, she also controls everyone else’s. She manipulates the people around her into giving her exactly what she wants – whether she’s persuading her parents to give her a bigger bedroom or breaking up other couples with a well-placed phone call. This control doesn’t last for the whole film – it’s all tied up in her social status, and once that starts slipping away her power does too. However, while she may lose her control over other people’s lives, she still keeps control of her own – even after she gets hit by a bus.

Regina’s hobbies are fairly typical of a teenage girl: she likes shopping, makeovers, parties and gossiping about other people. We don’t know if she came up with these on her own or not, but they’re still very well-established. Her goals and beliefs are much more interesting. She’s ruthlessly determined to make sure that she stays at the very top of the social ladder and will use anything she has at her disposal to stay there. As far as her beliefs go, the only thing she really seems to believe in is herself; she has an unshakeable confidence and seems utterly ignorant of the possibility that she’s even capable of doing wrong. It’s implied that both her beliefs and goals are the product of her spoiled upbringing, but it's likely that they’re also influenced by Regina’s ruthless ambition.

Relationship with Cady Heron

In Regina's eyes, Cady was " so lucky to have The Plastics ," to guide her away from "social suicide". Regina and Cady start to become close friends at the start of the movie, ever since Regina invites Cady to the table of The Plastics. Regina invites Cady to the table, after saving her from the sleazy Jason . Regina did not know her, but she thought Cady was very pretty, which was apparently her motivation for inviting Cady into the clique.

Janis Ian and Damian had previously informed Cady that she was a " regulation hottie " and a " little slice ." Regina decides to make Cady one of the Plastics so that Cady could be under her control and hopefully not become competition (or hurt Regina's popularity status in any other way). Cady begins to think of her as a kind and sweet girl, defending her when Damian and Janis tell Cady not to hang out with her because she's evil.

Cady develops a crush on Aaron Samuels and she tells Gretchen Wieners and Karen Smith about it, unaware that Aaron was Regina's ex-boyfriend. Gretchen informs Cady of Aaron and Regina's past relationship, and tells her that exes are off-limits to other members of the circle. Gretchen and Karen promise to keep Cady's interest in Aaron a secret from Regina.

Later, Regina calls Cady and tells her that Gretchen told her Cady's little secret. Regina claims she has no problem with it, and volunteers to talk to Aaron for her. At the Halloween party, Cady spots her talking with Aaron and thinks that Regina is doing what she promised. Then, right within eyeshot of Cady, Regina pulls Aaron in and makes out with him, then takes him back as her boyfriend. This enrages Cady enough to go along with a plan from Janis to sabotage Regina's life.

Regina informs the Plastics that she wants to lose three pounds, so Cady provides Kälteen Bars to her (which are loaded with calories and intended for quick weight gain, but whose nutrition label is written in Swedish) to ruin Regina's figure, claiming they are low-carb weight loss bars with a special formula that melts fat. Cady and Damian try to have Aaron find Regina cheating with Shane Oman in the projection room above the auditorium but are not successful. Eventually, " Word Vomit " gets the best of Cady and she tells Aaron that Regina is cheating on him. This causes Aaron to break up with Regina, though he covers for Cady by saying some guy on the baseball team told him. When Regina appears in sweatpants on a day when sweatpants are not allowed at the Plastics' table, Gretchen and Karen tell her she's not allowed to sit with them. Regina reveals that sweatpants are all that fits her now, since she's gained so much weight, but Karen and Gretchen, having been banned from the table by Regina in the past, do not care. Tension had been building up within Karen and Gretchen for a while since Cady and Janis's plan had begun.

Cady becomes the new Queen Bee, because Gretchen and Karen seemingly feel lost without a leader. Gretchen and Karen pry Cady into having a small get-together while her parents are out of town, which becomes a gigantic house party against her will. Cady tries to seduce Aaron during the party, but she is drunk and ends up vomiting on him. Regina sees this. Janis informs Cady that she is no longer pretending to be a Plastic, but actually has become plastic. Later, Regina is told the truth about Kälteen Bars ‏‎by Shane, because Coach Carr gives those to the student athletes when he wants them to gain weight. At this point, Regina realizes Cady is sabotaging her and decides to take down the remaining three Plastics.

Regina, once at home, adds herself to the Burn Book, as well as every girl not previously mentioned other than Cady, Gretchen, and Karen. Regina brings the book to Mr. Duvall claiming she found it in the bathroom. She also copies many pages from the Burn Book and distributes them throughout the school. Regina's plan works, as the school erupts in chaos.

A workshop begins in the gymnasium for all Junior girls, in which they are all encouraged to apologize to people they have hurt with their cattiness, then they participate in a trust fall in which the crowd catches them. Janis Ian apologizes to Regina for sabotaging her with the secret help of Cady. Regina storms out of the building. When Cady catches up to her, Regina cuts her off by saying, " NOOO! Do you know what people say about you? They say you're a home-schooled jungle freak, who is a less hot version of me! Yeah! So don't try to act so innocent! You can take that fake apology and shove it right up your hairy- " and at that moment she is hit by a bus, breaking her spine.

A few days later, Cady comes to the George mansion to make everything right with the George family.

They obtain a mutual respect and hatred for each other. At the Spring Fling dance, Regina is one of the nominees for queen. Cady, in a speech, decides to give every one of the nominees part of the crown. Once her spine heals in senior year, Regina then decides, on advice from her doctor, to channel her anger through sports, and she and Cady are at peace, and in good terms once again.

Regina George

Regina George

Character analysis.

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… with her parents   and younger sister   in Evanston, Illinois, in a mansion with her Lexus convertible parked in the six-car garage. Her mother, who calls herself a "cool mom," doesn't believe in rules or curfews. Her mom has been known to burst in on Regina making out with a boy in her bedroom, asking, “Can I get you guys anything? Some snacks? A condom? Let me know!” Her mom may be interested in Regina's sex life because she doesn't have much of one with Regina's father. Apparently, her parents sleep in separate bedrooms, but Regina doesn't talk much about that.

Profession… student at North Shore High School. Although she doesn't have the best grades, Regina clearly gets an A+ for her socializing skils during lunch. She's always at the same table with her closest friends and loyal minions, Gretchen Weiners and Karen Smith – and everyone else buzzes around them. Their threesome is known as "The Plastics," and Regina is the clear leader of the clique. Regina has created a list of strict fashion guidelines for the Plastics to make sure their outfits and hair always complement hers: ponytails once a week, pink on Wednesdays, jeans and sweatpants only on Fridays, and no tank tops two days in a row.

Interests… cheese fries, dancing in the spotlight, and looking at herself in the mirror. Most of all, Regina likes to talk trash about her classmates. She and her friends keep a "Burn Book" full of all the dirty secrets they've collected about the "whores" and "losers" at their school. For example, did you know that Amber D'Alessio once made out with a hot dog?

Relationship Status… single.   She had been dating Aaron Samuels, a popular football and soccer player, but they broke up. Now that a new girl named Cady has her eyes at Aaron, though, Regina is having second thoughts and wants Aaron back.

Challenge… keeping her Queen Bee status. In a completely unacceptable turn of events, Cady is starting to become more popular than Regina. Regina thinks that's the ultimate betrayal, especially since she took pity on Cady when she first showed up at the school and took her under her wing. With Regina as her mentor and stylist, Cady was transformed from a geeky outcast into one of the most popular girls in the school. Now that her social status is threatened, Regina is determined to turn Cady back into a pathetic outcast once again.

Personality… well, mean. Very, very mean. Regina is a master manipulator who is out for herself and no one else. Although she'll stop at nothing to get her way, she's not pure evil. True, she made mistakes as North Shore High’s leader of “The Plastics,” but who among us didn’t screw up at that age? Her most impressive quality is that she's clearly a leader. You just can’t teach the kind of charisma that led one student to happily say, “One time, [Regina] punched me in the face. It was awesome.” She's not the most admirable leader, but it's definitely entertaining to follow Regina around.

Q&A: Nadina Hassan on playing Regina George in ‘Mean Girls’ tour

The actress talks about being the first woman of color to play the bullying queen bee in the touring show stopping at the kennedy center.

regina george tour

As the queen bee of the high school clique known as the Plastics, “Mean Girls” bully Regina George has long been portrayed — from the 2004 movie to the 2018 Broadway musical and its subsequent tour — as disparaging, manipulative and, more superficially, a prototypical blonde bombshell.

So Nadina Hassan, an actress of Egyptian and Colombian heritage, was pleasantly surprised when she got a callback for the role last fall as the touring production returned from its coronavirus -induced hiatus. Following a whirlwind trip to New York to perform for director Casey Nicholaw and others, Hassan booked the gig and became the first woman of color to play Regina.

Why 'Mean Girls' fandom runs so deep

“It was so surreal to me when I got the part,” Hassan says. “I didn’t really believe it at first, because I had never seen people that looked like me in these kinds of roles. It means the world. It’s kind of my way of showing younger girls that the standards of beauty aren’t just one thing and they aren’t just what they used to be traditionally.”

The Ann Arbor, Mich., native subsequently stepped into the hot-pink heels previously worn by Rachel McAdams on-screen and the likes of Taylor Louderman and Mariah Rose Faith onstage. With music by Jeff Richmond; lyrics by Nell Benjamin; and a book by Tina Fey, the writer of the original film, “Mean Girls” returns this month to D.C. — where it premiered at the National Theatre in 2017 — for a Kennedy Center run.

Speaking last month from a tour stop in Louisville, Hassan discussed launching her career during a pandemic, relating to Regina and how being a longtime Fey fan braced her for the show.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Q: I see you graduated from Ohio’s Baldwin Wallace University in the spring of 2020, during the first coronavirus surge. What was that experience like?

A: I actually was on spring break when we found out that we were not returning to school. Of course, nobody knew what was going on, but immediately everybody packed up our houses and apartments. Then I went right back [home] to Michigan in late March of 2020, and I stayed there for about a year and a half. But it was fantastic because I have the greatest family in the world. They’re the best support system, and I have three siblings, too, so the house was quite full, which was really quite fun. And we did a whole, big graduation ceremony for me from my driveway.

Q: At that point, in-person auditions were replaced by self-tapes. Can you take me behind the scenes of filming auditions from your childhood home?

A: There were a few times when I did have to ask my sister to take the dog out to stop the barking during my takes [laughs]. You buy lighting and a camera, and you set up a whole kind of studio for yourself. The actor becomes the lighting designer, the sound designer, the makeup designer, the editor — you become all of these things for yourself. So it’s definitely a different beast.

Q: What was your relationship with the “Mean Girls” movie and musical going into your audition?

A: Tina Fey is truly one of my favorite, favorite, favorite people in the industry. I think she’s absolutely hilarious — her writing, her acting, everything. I begged my mom to let us rent it on Netflix, back when Netflix used to deliver movies, and she said, “Only if we watch it together.” So we watched it together, and I thought it was so hilarious. And I loved the musical — I saw it twice on Broadway, and I think it’s so brilliantly transformed from the screen to the stage.

Q: Although Regina is the antagonist, she also has some layers and complexity. How did you connect with the character once you dove into the role?

A: She’s definitely a very insecure character. I think she puts on this persona, and it’s all kind of a front because, as she learns as the story goes on, you can’t pretend to be someone you’re not — you just have to be yourself and not treat others poorly. It all comes from a place of insecurity, which I know we can all relate to, putting on various fronts for whatever reason. I think that’s definitely a big factor in why she behaves the way she does.

Q: “Mean Girls” is a famously quotable movie. Are there are any lines you particularly relish saying or hearing onstage every night?

A: One of my favorites is, “Whatever, I’m getting cheese fries.” That’s a good one. And I love some of the ones that my castmates do. Eric [Huffman, who plays Damian Hubbard] does a great, “She doesn’t even go here!” Really, all of those testimonials in [the gym scene] are fantastic. Not all of them are the same as the movie, but a lot of them are pretty similar. It’s very, very fun.

Q: You’ve previously described yourself as a stand-up fan. How does that enthusiasm help you in a comedic show like this?

A: Yeah, I’ve been a huge Chris Rock fan since I was a kid. Ramy Youssef also is a big favorite of mine, and I love seeing that there is an Egyptian American stand-up comic in the world. In addition to all of the stand-ups that I watch in my free time, I also just love comedy shows in general. I’ve loved “ 30 Rock ” since I was a kid, which obviously is a huge Tina Fey show. I think since I’ve been such a fan of comedy, the timing that is required in comedy performance is just kind of rooted in my head. And it’s all musically based in its rhythm, so I think that also helped. With my music training, it’s all very cohesive.

Comedian Ramy Youssef is still figuring out life as a Muslim millennial. So he made a show about it.

Q: What does it mean to you to be the first woman of color to play Regina?

A: It means everything. It’s very, very exciting, and I think it’s a huge step for the industry as well, showing people that people of color and women of color don’t just have to play roles that are only about the struggle and strife of being a person of color. Those boundaries are now being pushed, which is incredibly exciting, and I am so grateful to be a part of that change.

Soon, this naïve newbie falls prey to a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.

Mean Girls movie musical cast

Paramount’s upcoming “ Mean Girls ” movie musical has set its main cast — and it’s so fetch.

Reneé Rapp, Angourie Rice, Jaquel Spivey and Auli’i Cravalho will star in the film, based on the Tony-nominated Broadway musical adapted from the iconic 2004 movie. Rapp, who played Regina George in the Broadway musical, will reprise her role in the film. Rice, Spivey and Cravalho will play Cady, Damian and and Janis, respectively.

Original film and stage musical writer Tina Fey is penning the movie, with Arturo Perez and and Samantha Jayne directing. The music is by Jeff Richmond with lyrics from Nell Benjamin.

Popular on Variety

Rapp can currently be seen starring in Season 2 of HBO Max’s “Sex Lives of College Girls.” She also recently released her first EP , “Everything to Everyone.” Rice broke out last year starring opposite Kate Winslet on HBO’s “Mare of Easttown,” and has recently starred in Paramount+’s “Honor Society” and Netflix’s “Senior Year.” Cravalho became a household voice in 2016 when she was cast as the lead in Disney’s “Moana,” and has since appeared in Netflix’s “All Together Now” and Hulu’s “Crush.” Tony and Grammy-nominated Spivey made his professional theater debut as Usher in Michael R. Jackson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “A Strange Loop.”

Rapp is represented by Immersive Management, WME and Interscope Records. Rice is repped by Catherine Poulton Management, WME, Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, and The Lede Company.

Taylor Swift Cincinnati Eras Tour 2023

Taylor Swift Fans Will Get An Extra Little Treat Before ‘The Eras Tour’: The Trailer For The Renee Rapp-Starring ‘Mean Girls’ Musical

Nina Braca

The publicist for the color Pink is surely having a whirlwind year. After the success of Barbie , the imagery from Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie , and winning Pantone Color Of the Year, there is no stopping the shade. Sorry to the color Blue, who tried really hard last year .

The next way Pink will be infiltrating the world is through the upcoming adaptation of Mean Girls, the movie that is based on the musical (that is based on the movie that is based on the book). The trailer is slated to show ahead of the Eras Tour movie ( as reported by Vulture ) because why shouldn’t Pink begin its campaign to be the official Webster word of the year? It’s like the rules of feminism.

Mean Girls will star Renee Rapp (a fellow Swiftie who also starred in the Broadway rendition) as Queen Bee Regina George who wears pink every Wednesday while destroying the confidence of her high school peers. The movie also stars Angourie Rice, Jaquel Spivey, Auli’i Cravalho, Christopher Briney, Jenna Fischer, Avantika Vandanapu, Bebe Wood, Busy Philipps, Tim Meadows, Tina Fey, and Jon Hamm.

While we don’t have a trailer online yet, Swifties are really good at taking one thing and plastering it all over the internet , so we might see some snippets before it’s officially released, which should be soon. Until then, you might just have to shell out $19.89 to watch the trailer alongside your local gaggle of Swifties. Maybe you’ll get a friendship bracelet out of it!

Mean Girls is set to hit theaters in January.

Megan Thee Stallion announced that this year, she's coming out with a new album and will be hitting the road for the Hot Girl Summer 2024 tour.

"We're having the tour this year," the 28-year-old announced on Good Morning America . "The Hot Girl Summer tour is gonna be 2024 summer time. I feel like I've never been able to be outside doing my own thing during the summer, since like 2019, so this is gonna be the first time I drop an album on time for the summer. I do want to give the hotties the Megan Thee Stallion experience."

Thee Stallion's announcement of a new album and new tour comes five months after Torey Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison   in his felony assault trial  for shooting her in 2020.

In the years that have followed, the "Cobra" rapper has been  open about her struggles with her mental health. Now, Megan says that she has found the inspiration to make music again.

She added, "I had to tell myself, 'You know what? I don't want to give up.' I love a lot of things, but music is the one that I know I always super tried at and the one thing I know my mama knew I wanted to do. So, I said I can't give up this fight, I just have to put it in the music and I feel like it was like therapy, it was like a real diary entry."

Earlier this month, ET spoke to the self-proclaimed Black Regina George, who dished about working on the fun track.

"I love Reneé. As soon as I met her I was like, 'Oh, you my friend. OK.' I love it. I love her, and I love  Mean Girls ," Megan told ET. "It was only right they had to call the H-Town hottie out here. I been calling myself the Black Regina George for, like, ever and here I am. This is really my dream, so I'm so happy. I'm excited to be a part of this."

About Regina Spektor

Regina Spektor calls them sandcastles. There’s a million of them, songs that rise up and multiply in her brain — the fruits of months, sometimes years, of channeling and crafting. But what happens to them when it’s time to make new music? “They all have to be slowly washed away. Some of them are really well built, and they’re really high up on the beach,” she says. “It all has to be gone, and then I can start to hear new songs and make a new record.”

Starting with a clean slate, with six momentous years between albums, Spektor returned in 2022 with Home, before and after. The eagerly awaited eighth studio album was the follow-up to 2016’s Remember Us to Life. It paired Spektor with John Congleton (St. Vincent, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen), who produced the album from afar in Los Angeles with Spektor co-producing in upstate New York.

The years between her albums weren’t exactly fallow. In 2016, at her friend Lin-Manuel Miranda’s invitation, she contributed a song (“Dear Theodosia,” featuring Ben Folds) to The Hamilton Mixtape. Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared Regina Spektor Day in her hometown in June 2019, she got a street sign with her name at the Bronx Walk of Fame, and that same month staged a sold out residency on Broadway at the legendary Lunt- Fontanne Theatre.

Her work for television and film continued. “You’ve Got Time,” from Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, entered the pantheon of classic TV theme songs, so much so that Spektor released an orchestral version of the award-winning tune for the final episode. She wrote “One Little Soldier” for the closing credits of the film Bombshell and multiple songs for the animated series Central Park.

Time has been kind to Spektor’s work. Twenty years have passed since she self-released her 2001 debut, 11:11, which recently received a remastered reissue, as well as a limited-edition box set. In the decades since, Spektor, who was born in Moscow, Russia and raised in the Bronx, New York, has defied classification. With a sophisticated marriage of classical training and a gift for sharp pop hooks and nuanced lyrics, she has created her own genre. She makes Regina Spektor music.
