The new ‘Aelia Duty Free for diplomats’ store features a luxury concierge service offering “much more than retail” with bespoke services such as personal shoppers, make-up and skincare treatments, shoe shining and VIP liquor tastings

Lagardère Travel Retail has revealed a new duty free diplomatic store in the heart of Geneva, near the United Nations and the World Trade Organization . The concept, called “ Aelia Duty Free for diplomats ” boasts a new commercial approach for Lagardère and a luxury concierge service and VIP services.

The 350sqm Aelia Duty Free shop will offer all core duty free categories, along with fashion and accessories, and will serve diplomats and their families holding a B or C legitimation card, as well as foreign delegates with a valid 14.65 form.

The Geneva diplomatic store concept follows Lagardère Travel Retail’s acquisition of International Duty Free, with which it also acquired a diplomatic duty free store inKenya, and marks what it described as its “ambitions to grow its footprint worldwide and go omnichannel”.

Pascal Le Droff, CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail Switzerland commented, “We are very proud to take over this duty free diplomatic store.

“This is a milestone for our development in Switzerland and we are now the only duty free operator in French-speaking Switzerland.

“After having won the Geneva Airport duty free tender 2 years ago, this new activity allows us to expand and diversify our operations. Diplomats are very different from airport passengers and it is an exciting challenge to roll out a new concept Aelia Duty Free for diplomats to address their specific needs.”

Lagardère Travel Retail Director of Operations and Business Development in Switzerland Caroline Maurs  added: “Diplomats crave exceptional experiences. This new store gives us a fantastic opportunity to develop a new commercial approach.

Victorinox unveils exclusive partnership with Lagardère Travel Retail in Geneva

The pop-up highlights products from the brand's Swiss Army Knife and Travel Gear ranges

Victorinox has teamed up with Lagardère Travel Retail to launch a specially developed personalization pop-up concept in the central square at Geneva Airport.

Running from September 26 to October 30, the pop-up invites travelers to learn about the history of the Original Swiss Army Knife maker and primarily highlights products from Victorinox’s Swiss Army Knife and Travel Gear ranges. To drive engagement, a complimentary engraving service is available for travelers wishing to personalize their Swiss Army Knife or Travel Gear purchases.

In addition to exploring Victorinox’s Swiss Army Knife and Travel Gear collections, travelers can also discover Victorinox’s fragrance lines via a sensory journey bar. This unique, immersive experience enables travelers to explore various Victorinox fragrances in a multi-sensory environment while offering a memorable, personalized fragrance selection process.

The multi-category concept, the first of its kind for Victorinox in global travel retail, underlines the brand’s premium positioning and kicks off a new strategy which will see the brand reinforce its global footprint in the channel by further connecting with the end consumer.

Victorinox Geneva Airport Swiss Army Knife Lagardère

The Geneva pop-up is Victorinox’s first GTR multi-category concept.

Victorinox has partnered with Lagardère Travel Retail to launch a personalisation pop-up concept in the central square area at Geneva Airport.

Running from 26 September to 30 October, the pop-up invites travellers to discover the history of the company behind the iconic Swiss Army Knife, while highlighting the Victorinox’s Swiss Army Knife and Travel Gear ranges.

To further drive engagement, a complimentary engraving service is available for travellers who wish to personalise their Victorinox purchases.

In addition to the Swiss Army Knife and Travel Gear collections, travellers can also discover Victorinox’s fragrance portfolio via a sensory journey bar.

A new strategy for Victorinox

The multi-category concept – the first of its kind for Victorinox in global travel retail – is designed to underline the brand’s premium positioning. It also kicks off a new strategy which will see the brand reinforce its global footprint in the channel by further connecting with the end-consumer.

Lagardère Travel Retail backs refugee cause with Geneva Airport pop-up store

SWITZERLAND. Lagardère Travel Retail in partnership with Switzerland for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency’s national partner for Switzerland and Liechtenstein, has this week unveiled a pop-up store in the East Wing of Geneva Airport.

The store features a collection of handicrafts from ‘MADE51’, a mission-driven brand that connects refugee artisans with international markets.

MADE51 currently works with 35 local social enterprises in 23 refugee-hosting countries. By using their valuable skills, traditions and heritage to handcraft unique products, refugees are able to earn an income and achieve financial independence.  

As well as getting the opportunity to learn more about UNHCR’s operations and missions for more than 103 million forcibly displaced people around the world, visitors to the Geneva Airport pop-up can also support refugee artisans by purchasing their products, which include items of home décor, dolls and fashion accessories.

Lagardère Travel Retail Switzerland CEO Pascal le Droff said of the partnership:   “Our collaboration with UNHCR means a lot to us, especially in these troubled times. The war in Ukraine and the earthquake in Türkiye and Syria require a strong solidarity.

“ We want to play our part to help refugees and highlight the urgent need to include them in the global value chain.”  

Switzerland for UNHCR Executive Director Cristina Davies outlined what passengers can find at the pop-up: “ For the next six months, passengers at Geneva Airport will have the opportunity to buy a variety of products made by artisans, including home décor, dolls, and fashion accessories.

“ In addition, the booth also features brochures and an activity table for children. We also thank the wonderful volunteers that will provide information on-site about UNHCR’s mission and MADE51 products during the weekend.

“The pop-up store allows travellers to learn about the experiences of those who have also travelled, but against their will and with no guarantee of ever returning home,” she added.

The foundations of the partnership

Last year, Lagardère Travel Retail joined forces with Switzerland for UNHCR to support the DAFI programme, granting scholarships to refugees to access higher education.  

With the option of top-up payments at checkouts, passengers were able to sponsor young refugees to pursue their education.

Lagardère Travel Retail gave an example of the impact education can have on young refugees through the story of UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Maya Ghazal. After fleeing the war in Syria, Maya came to the UK and stayed a few nights in a hotel by Heathrow Airport. It was there that she realised what she wanted to do later on: become an airline pilot. Today, Maya has completed her studies, and is the first female Syrian refugee pilot.
