Weiler-la-Tour

The village of Weiler-la-Tour (Weiler-the-Tower) owes its name to a watchtower that once belonged to the fortifications of a Roman settlement. However, it has nothing in common with the round tower from 1750, you can nowadays see on numerous official documents. This newer tower and its counterpart (which has disappeared by now) once guarded the entrance to the Weiler manor house.

This municipality is very popular as a residential area and consists of the villages Hassel and Syren, which is where the source of the river Syr originates.

On one summer Sunday, the streets of Syren resound like an echo of times long past. At the Barrel Organ Festival, which takes place every two years, the pavement belongs to peculiar musicians who perform their songs and melodies on squares, sidewalks, courtyards and in many unexpected places for the great fun of the audience.

Apart from this extraordinary highlight, the town of Syren has a neo-Gothic church from 1850, which is on the list of national monuments.

A thematic trail with the promising name Steekauzewee (Minerva’s owl way) leads through the natural sights of Weiler-la-Tour. Of course, there is no shortage of cycle paths. By the way, one of them is dedicated to the Luxembourg cycling legend Charly Gaul.

Saint Weiler

Saint Weiler dog breed

Imagine a dog that combines the strength and nobility of a Saint Bernard with the intelligence and agility of a Rottweiler. That’s the Saint Weiler, a majestic giant that captures the hearts of dog owners everywhere. In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the appearance, history, temperament, health, exercise, training, grooming, and nutrition of this unique breed.

The Saint Weiler is a large and powerful dog, with a muscular build and a confident stance. They typically have a thick, dense coat that can come in a variety of colors, including black, brown, and white. Their expressive eyes exude intelligence and loyalty, while their floppy ears add to their endearing appearance. Despite their size, Saint Weilers are graceful and agile, moving with a sense of purpose and elegance.

One of the most striking features of the Saint Weiler is their impressive size. They can weigh anywhere from 100 to 180 pounds and stand between 24 to 30 inches tall at the shoulder. This makes them a formidable presence, but their gentle demeanor and affectionate nature make them beloved companions in the home.

Overall, the Saint Weiler is a stunning breed that commands attention wherever they go. Their regal appearance and gentle expression make them a favorite among dog lovers who appreciate both beauty and strength in their canine companions.

The Saint Weiler is a relatively new hybrid breed, created by crossing the Saint Bernard with the Rottweiler. Both parent breeds have long and storied histories, with the Saint Bernard originating in the Swiss Alps as a rescue dog and the Rottweiler hailing from Germany as a versatile working dog.

By combining the best traits of both breeds, the Saint Weiler was developed to be a loyal and protective companion with a strong work ethic and a gentle temperament. While the breed is still relatively rare, they are gaining popularity for their unique combination of traits and their loving nature.

Today, Saint Weilers are cherished for their devotion to their families and their willingness to go above and beyond to protect and care for their loved ones. Their rich history and heritage are a testament to their noble lineage and their enduring appeal as a beloved pet.

Temperament

When it comes to temperament, the Saint Weiler is a gentle giant with a heart of gold. Despite their imposing size, these dogs are known for their affectionate nature and their deep bond with their families. They are loyal and protective, always ready to stand by their loved ones and defend them if necessary.

While Saint Weilers can be reserved with strangers, they are typically friendly and sociable with people they know. They are great with children and other pets, making them a wonderful addition to any household. Their calm and patient demeanor makes them excellent therapy dogs and emotional support animals.

Overall, the Saint Weiler’s temperament is a perfect blend of strength and sweetness. They are intelligent and trainable, making them easy to integrate into a family setting. Their loving nature and gentle spirit make them cherished companions for dog owners of all ages and backgrounds.

Like all dog breeds, Saint Weilers are prone to certain health issues that owners should be aware of. One common health concern for this breed is hip dysplasia, a condition that affects the hip joints and can cause pain and mobility issues. Regular exercise and a healthy diet can help prevent this condition, as can regular veterinary check-ups.

Another potential health issue for Saint Weilers is bloat, a serious condition that can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. Bloat occurs when the stomach fills with gas or fluid and twists on itself, cutting off blood flow to the rest of the body. To prevent bloat, it’s important to feed your Saint Weiler smaller meals throughout the day and avoid vigorous exercise immediately after eating.

Overall, Saint Weilers are a relatively healthy breed with a lifespan of around 8 to 12 years. By providing them with proper care, attention, and regular veterinary check-ups, owners can help ensure that their beloved pet lives a long and happy life.

Due to their large size and high energy levels, Saint Weilers require plenty of exercise to stay happy and healthy. Daily walks, playtime in the yard, and interactive games are all great ways to keep your Saint Weiler physically and mentally stimulated. They also enjoy activities like hiking, swimming, and obedience training.

It’s important to provide your Saint Weiler with enough exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behavior. A lack of physical activity can lead to obesity and other health issues, so it’s essential to make sure your dog gets enough daily exercise to keep them in top form. Regular exercise also helps strengthen the bond between you and your pet, as it provides an opportunity for quality time together.

Overall, Saint Weilers are active and playful dogs that thrive on regular exercise and mental stimulation. By incorporating a variety of activities into their daily routine, owners can help keep their Saint Weiler happy, healthy, and well-adjusted.

Training is essential for Saint Weilers, as their large size and strong will require a firm and consistent hand. Positive reinforcement techniques, such as praise and treats, are effective in teaching your Saint Weiler basic commands and good behavior. It’s important to start training early and be patient and consistent in your approach.

Socialization is also key for Saint Weilers, as it helps them become well-adjusted and confident in various situations. Exposing your dog to different people, animals, and environments from a young age can help prevent behavioral issues and make them more comfortable in new settings. Training classes and obedience courses are also beneficial for teaching your Saint Weiler proper manners and behavior.

Overall, training is a crucial aspect of owning a Saint Weiler. By investing time and effort into training your dog, you can help them become a well-behaved and obedient companion that enriches your life and the lives of those around you.

Due to their thick double coat, Saint Weilers require regular grooming to keep their fur clean and healthy. Weekly brushing helps remove loose hair and prevents matting, while occasional baths can help keep their coat looking shiny and lustrous. It’s also important to trim your Saint Weiler’s nails regularly and clean their ears to prevent infections.

Labrala dog breed

During shedding season, which typically occurs twice a year, Saint Weilers will shed more heavily and require extra grooming to manage their loose hair. Using a deshedding tool can help remove excess fur and reduce shedding around the home. Additionally, regular dental care, such as brushing your dog’s teeth and providing dental chews, is essential for maintaining their oral health.

Overall, grooming is an important part of caring for a Saint Weiler. By establishing a regular grooming routine and providing your dog with the necessary care and attention, you can help them look and feel their best while keeping them clean and comfortable.

Proper nutrition is essential for the health and well-being of your Saint Weiler. High-quality dog food that is appropriate for their age, size, and activity level is crucial for providing them with the nutrients they need to thrive. Look for dog food that lists meat as the first ingredient and avoids fillers and artificial additives.

Feeding your Saint Weiler the right amount of food is also important, as overfeeding can lead to obesity and other health issues. Follow the feeding guidelines on the dog food packaging and monitor your dog’s weight to ensure they are maintaining a healthy body condition. Providing fresh water at all times is essential for keeping your Saint Weiler hydrated and healthy.

Overall, a balanced diet and proper nutrition are key to keeping your Saint Weiler in top shape. By feeding them high-quality food, monitoring their weight, and providing them with fresh water and treats in moderation, you can help your dog live a long and healthy life.

In conclusion, the Saint Weiler is a magnificent breed that combines the best traits of the Saint Bernard and the Rottweiler. With their regal appearance, gentle temperament, and loyal nature, they make wonderful companions for dog owners of all ages. By providing them with proper care, attention, and love, you can enjoy a lifelong bond with your Saint Weiler that brings joy and fulfillment to your life.

Whether you are drawn to their majestic presence, their loving personality, or their playful spirit, the Saint Weiler is sure to capture your heart and become a cherished member of your family. By understanding their unique needs and characteristics, you can ensure that your Saint Weiler thrives and flourishes in your care, bringing happiness and companionship to your home for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

What vaccinations are needed for my dog to stay?

All of our guests must be at least 12 weeks of age and have had their second round of vaccinations, which includes vaccinations for Parvo Virus, Distemper, and Bordetella.  To help reduce the risk of contracting the Kennel Cough virus, Bordetella vaccinations should be renewed every 6 months.  For dogs over 6 months of age, a Rabies vaccination is also required. We also recommend a flea treatment prior to the stay. If fleas are found on a dog, a mandatory flea treatment/bath will be required at the owner's expense.

Vaccination records will be required to be uploaded to your account portal once registered as a customer.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

We understand that plans change but we do ask for 48 hours notice. This allows us to accommodate a client who may be on our wait list. If a reservation is canceled within 48 hours, a $95 cancellation charge may apply.

How do I pay?

All reservations are required to have a credit card on file. Services will be billed at check out.  While we do accept Venmo or Zelle, we will bill the card on file via our online portal unless otherwise noted.

What should I bring?

All we need is your dog's food, unless you are requesting our food services.  Food must be portioned and provided in ziplock bags or non-breakable containers, with feeding instructions, dog's name and owner's name written clearly.

Besides food, we provide everything else! This includes toys, bones, antlers, dog bowls, bedding, etc.

To keep our space as sanitary as possible, we ask that you do not bring in toys or dog beds.  We will not be responsible for any damaged or lost toys, if brought in. We have an abundance of toys for our guests to play with!

What does a day at your space look like for my dog?

A day with us is both mentally and physically stimulating. The structure implemented at our space is aimed to mimic the lifestyle dogs have at home. Dogs get supervised social time in small, customized playgroups in both our indoor and outdoor play areas, with water and food breaks scheduled throughout the day.  We will be sending you a daily video each evening so you can watch your dog interact with their friends and/or our staff.

During your dog's stay, our staff will reinforce training already in place (i.e. - practicing a default sit / not jumping / etc.).  We will never use fear tactics to intimidate dogs (we do not believe in using spray bottles).  Everything we utilize is based on science ‍‍(positive reinforcement methodologies).

Please note, if your dog has not had any training and you would like to add training to a stay, that is a different service (Board & Train/ Day Board & Train) and will need to be discussed further. Please contact us for more information.

Do you have any restrictions?

Yes, a temperament test and/or phone consultation is required in order to book a stay.   Please reach out to us to determine whether we are a good fit for your dog. We cannot accommodate last minute/same-day requests.

Can I pick up/drop off my dog myself?

In order for us to be able to adhere to our daily schedule at our facility, we cannot accommodate clients coming to our space. We are a small, specialized team that follows a very structured day, which is why we are able to offer personalized care and a less stressful environment for the dogs in our care and for our staff.   We offer a pick up/drop off service via a Tesla shuttle, which operates Sunday - Friday during the window of 11am-1pm. We do not offer a shuttle service on Saturdays.

Images of our space are available on our social media page. We are happy to provide more information via scheduled phone consultations.

Can you share more about your space?

For social time, we offer dogs in each custom playgroup the opportunity to enjoy two different yards on a 1/4 acre lot. One yard has synthetic turf and the other has mulch, which helps fulfill the needs of each individual dog staying with us.

For rest and sleeping arrangements, each dog gets an individual crate with their own personal bedding, food and water bowls (cleaned on a daily basis) in a temperature controlled private space.  We provide an ambient environment that includes music and their favorite television shows for a home-like experience.
