Ridiculously amazing day at Broughton Island

A ridiculously amazing day, stunning Island with crystal clear water. Heaps of dolphins, a great boat with friendly fun staff. A super fun day out, a must-do.

Hi lisaR8904, It's lovely to read your review, we are delighted you enjoyed our cruise to Broughton Island. We hope to see you on board again in the future. Best wishes, Dianne

We did the 1:30pm cruise and spotted quite a few dolphins who were chasing fish. Dolphins came right up to the front of the boat and the people on the bottom deck saw them right up close. Fantastic welcoming crew. Great experience and value for money.

Hi kimberleym796, Thank you so much for this lovely review, we are delighted you enjoyed our cruise. We hope to see you on board again in the future. Best wishes, Dianne

I totally recommend this cruise. Comfortable, spacious, covid safe, great value, friendly and informative crew, lots of dolphins and soooo much fun with the boom net and slide for both adults and children. My teenage daughter and I came away with big smiles on our faces. Thank you!!

Hi Grifffffff, Thank you so much for writing this lovely review, we very much appreciate it. Hope to see you again. Best wishes, Dianne

We were concerned that as the weather was cold and wet we might not see dolphins or be able to swim, but we stopped in a small bay called Shoal bay and saw lots of big and baby dolphins . It was as if they were coming up to say hello Also tried the shoot into the sea great fun So glad we went

Hi, Thank you so much for the great review, we are delighted you enjoyed our dolphin cruise. Hope to see you on board again. Best wishes, Dianne

We had a blast!! Very clean, comfortable and spacious. Staff is super friendly. You can bring snacks and drinks and there are some to buy on the boat. We brought a pram and the baby slept through the whole trip. **Be aware to the fact the slide is meant for those who can swim in the ocean as it goes down to the open sea. Very recommended!

Hi Ela_Barbara, Thank you so much for this lovely review, we are delighted you enjoyed the cruise. Not all our vessel’s waterslides go directly into the water, Moonshadow V has a twist and twirl slide which lands directly into the boom net, good fun. We hope to see you again, Best wishes, Dianne

We’ve done this cruise a few times now and it never disappoints. Great boat, very well run, and good value for money. We’ve always seen dolphins and really enjoy the informative commentary. The boom net is great for the kids. A must do if you are visiting Port Stephens.

Hi melissaIP073FT, Thank you so much for choosing Moonshadow-TQC to cruise Port Stephens and thank you for your lovely review. We are delighted you enjoyed your cruise and we very much appreciate you being a returning customer. Best wishes, Dianne

Broughton Island Cruise was fantastic, very relaxing and great value.

6 of us did the Broughton Island Cruise on Sunday, 10 April 2022 and it was fantastic, very relaxing and great value. Crew were lovely and lunch was plentiful. We saw dolphins, little penguins, seals, fed stingrays and went for a swim too. Suggest packing your own water and beach umbrella as very little shade available on the island. Also, take sea sick tablets if you suffer with sea sickness. No shower available on the island. We bought a wine from the boats bar which was lovely to sip on during the trip back to Nelson Bay too.

Hi, Thank you for joining us on our Broughton Island cruise. We are delighted to read you enjoyed your day. We hope to see you again. Kind regards, Dianne

My wife and I decided to do the cruise while we were staying in the area. The boat is spacious and our window table on the upper deck was perfect, The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is plenty of food with big helpings so you will not go hungry and the music entertainment is very enjoyable also. It was a great night

Hi bigbear1010, Thank you for the positive review of our Cruising Eats & Beats Dinner cruise in Port Stephens. We are delighted you enjoyed your evening, we hope to see you again. Best wishes, Dianne

Lovely vessel, comfortable, relaxed, not overcrowded, great knowledgeable staff. Seeing the dolphins was great, as was the opportunity to experience the boom net and slide. Would recommend and will book with Moonshadow again.

Hi wildflowerbh, Thank you so much for the lovely review, we very much appreciate it. We hope to see you onboard again in the future. Best wishes, Dianne

We booked a morning's cruise last minute with Moonshadow to see the dolphins in Port Stephens. The team were very accommodating and the captain was both informative and very funny. We saw some dolphins which were a delight to see. Would happily recommend the cruise. Unfortunately on the day of our trip the weather was wet and grey. However this did not prevent the cruise from taking place, nor dampen the spirits of the crew on board.

Hi DavidHolmes22, Thank you so much for your lovely review, we very much appreciate it. We hope to welcome you onboard again in the future. Kind regards, Dianne

I've gone three times over the last decade and always had a blast. They find dolphins very reliably, and you can see them right under you hanging with the boat. They tend to stick around for at least a few minutes each, and you usually encounter a few. Being so close to them and watching them roll and frolic in the waves caused by the boat is so magical and the price/duration really convenient, I find this a must-do when visiting the area. I've never seen people not having fun.

Hi lightscameraction, Thank you so much for joining our cruise, and for the support over the past 10 years. We hope we will see you again in the future. Kind regards, Dianne

We have done this cruise before and were more than happy to do it again. The vessel is very roomy and comfortable and easy to move around each deck. The staff were very welcoming and kept the vessel clean and organised. The captain was quite funny, even though he takes his jokes from the Funny Captain Recycled Jokebook!! We saw quite a few dolphins beside the boat, so that was exciting. It was fun watching the boom netters, although I think the waterslide needs to be wet inside because some of them got stuck getting to the net. If I could suggest an improvement, it would be to upgrade the tea and coffee offering to maybe a more substantial morning or afternoon tea, which fits into the time frame more than selling hot foods which are more for lunch. Suggestions would be a devonshire tea, cakes and slices or even sealed biscuits like Arnotts do. Next time, we want to try the dinner cruise again as we did that years ago.

Hi Cheryl M, Thank you for joining our cruise, and for the lovely review. The waterside is supposed to have water running inside. I did ask our maintenance team to check this out and it was working. I think on this occasion our crew may have overlooked turning the pump on, my apologies about this. We hope to see you onboard again in the future. Best wishes, Dianne

Broughton Island

This was a fantastic trip, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We travelled with our 8 year old son and he enjoyed it as well. Keep up the good work!

Hi jackieb1234553, We are delighted you enjoyed your day at beautiful Broughton Island with us. Thank you so much for taking the time and writing a positive review, we very much appreciate it. We hope you will join us again in the future. Regards, Dianne Annable

We went for the dinner cruise on Saturday night. as soon as you board there's bruschetta. plenty for everyone at the table. The buffet was very good .Plenty of oysters and prawns (went back for seconds). And a very nice beef curry too. There was a bit of a wait initially to get a drink but after that it was ok. all in all a very enjoyable night.

Hi Robert P, Thank you so much for your positive review of our Twilight Dinner Cruise in Port Stephens. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your evening. We hope we see you again in the future. Regards, Dianne Annable

My husband and I took our children on their first dolphin cruise while on holidays. We found the cruise to be a nice experience though our youngest (5) found it a bit too long and boring (as kids do). We only managed to see a couple of dolphins which was disappointing but no fault of the cruise itself. If you remember that the dolphins are wild and therefore may not come out to play, the cruise can still be nice without getting cranky that you haven't seen many dolphins. The crew were nice and the Captain was trying his hardest to find dolphins. He even stayed out a little longer in hopes of seeing more. The cruise boat has a boom net and water slide that people can go in so remember to take swimmers if you want to do that. Also take sunscreen if you plan on sitting outside because there is no shade unless you sit inside the boat. Maybe some sun shades would be something that could be looked at.

Hi JCendo, Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your Dolphin Watch cruise with us in Port Stephens. The dolphins, as you say, are wild and they are different in numbers and behaviour on every cruise. Again, thank you for your review and I hope we see you on board again in the future. Regards, Dianne Annable

We boarded on Hinchinbrook Explorer for whaling watch. No many can be seen except the sparkling waves. Cruise staff are very nice. But strong smell of cooking oil of chips. It may attract a few dolphin swimming along side of ship.

Dear Jason F Thank you for your review of your Whale Watch cruise with us. It’s unfortunate that you found the smell of hot chips cooking to be unpleasant, we regularly receive positive feedback about the availability of hot food during the cruise. As a result of your comments, regular monitoring will now take place to ensure this is not a reoccurring issue. We have great determination in locating whales during our cruise, but of course, they are a wild animal living in the ocean and we have no control over their mood and behaviour. We aim to provide a positive experience for you during your cruise and it’s disappointing for us when we do not meet expectations. Regards, Dianne Annable

They boast a 99% rate of dolphin sightings and sure enough we saw dolphins almost immediately after setting off! Very enjoyable cruise.

Hi Grphon1403, We very much appreciate you taking the time and writing a positive review of your Dolphin Watch cruise with us in Port Stephens. We hope to you on board again in the future. Regards, Dianne Annable

We enjoyed a great and successful whale watching trip with Moonshadow. The crew were friendly and the commentary was fun and informative, they even managed to ensure that people paid attention to the safety briefing. The whale sightings were good, close due to the choice of the whales and not the boat. We managed a pod of dolphins in the bay as well to round off. All told a great experience.

Hi OwenWatson, Thank you for your review we are delighted you enjoyed your cruise with us. We hope we see you on board again in the future. Regards, Dianne.

Amazing Broughton island cruise

Broughton island 3 hour cruise We had an amazing day out on the water on the envision travelling to Broughton island to snorkel. Fantastic boat and crew, Lisa was a great snorkel guide, finding all the wobegongs and eagle rays. Little tour around the islands and dive spots and even saw some ocean dolphins on the way back. Highly recommend this amazing day trip, great value for money

broughton island cruise reviews

We have taken the sunset dinner cruise a few times including with family. Suited to adults (kiddies will be a bit bored). Very peaceful and beautiful to see the sunset. The cruise aims to go by sail of they can. Good dinner included and licensed bar. Wrap up warm no matter the time of year so you can enjoy it, and definitely try the net at the front (you don't get wet). Highly recommended to all visitors.

Very relaxing 3 hour cruise. We saw dolphins and seals but no whales. They did warn us that because it's the end of the season, we may not see any whales. They have given everyone a return voucher that lasts for ages. They tried their best to find whales.

Wonderful cruise. Staff were very accommodating and informative. Was able to see whales and fur seals. Highly recommend, definitely an experience to be had.

I was disappointed in our whale watching cruise. We were booked on the 3 hour cruise leaving at 2pm. It was a bit rough on the water and the captain did take it steady over the bigger waves which was great. It took about 50 minutes to get out to where the whales were. We had a bit of a look around for 25 mins, saw a couple of water spouts and a tail and went back to the marina. Got back to quieter water and spent 45 minutes letting the children on board steer the boat. That’s lovely and all but not what we had paid to do. Why couldn’t we stay out longer? The catamaran also has lots of rigging which makes viewing the action a bit tricky.

The boat is relatively small so doesn’t have many passengers. The staff were knowledgeable and very friendly. They tried really hard to get people to take seasickness tablets Shane people didn’t listen! Going in a smaller boat we preferred it a larger boat may get to whales quicker?

The staff was very friendly, and it was a lovely experience. At first, we didn't see dolphins, but as we were returning to the port, they appeared. The boat stopped for a while (even though we were already approaching the time to return) to observe them closely, then the dolphins followed the boat, and we could see them up close. Highly recommended, I would definitely come back! :) Read more Written 7 May 2024

There was a whole pod of dolphins this time round. Real close to the boat and surrounded us almost the entire course of the trip around the bays. So glad to have done this experience again. • louisac25 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Nice cruise let down by one rude crew member Boat was good and well equipped, captain and most staff lovely, and we saw dolphins which was great. An otherwise enjoyable day was a bit affected by one incredibly rude staff member who screamed at my children (captain was just announcing that kids must not stand up on ledges; we were trying to get them down but had multiple young children including one with a sprained foot so it was taking us a minute - and the boat had not yet departed). Crew member stood between me and my husband, blocking him from helping, screaming GET DOWN FROM THERE RIGHT NOW - upsetting my children and slowing the process down. He later had a “joke” with my 6 year old which involved telling him off for something he didn’t do and then laughing “with” him (he wasn’t laughing). And at the end he told off a couple in front of us for moving a barricade - which they didn’t, it fell - remarking sarcastically “it needs to be there, it’s almost like I put it there on purpose”. Shame as it was otherwise a nice afternoon. Read more Written 28 April 2024

The cruise began with a slow cruise away from the wall for Tellson Bay. A bit of patience and we were rewarded Waze a number of dolphins and several of them so I am close to the boat. We were so excited and had such a great time seeing the dolphins are close. After about half an hour of watching the dolphins the ship turn back and we had a lot of fun sliding and playing in the water behind the boat on the boom net. It was a great way to occupy ourselves whilst the boat headed back to the wharf. I recommend highly this tour for anyone whilst visiting Port Stephens. Read more Written 17 March 2024

Broughton Island day trip

We have friends visiting from the UK staying with us and we boarded to MOONSHADOW 3 at 10am this morning and set out from Nelson Bay through the torquoise waters that are PORT STEPHENS !! OMG it was the most perfect day, the weather was stunning the staff were friendly and helpful the lunch was plentiful and very fresh. We opted for takeaway containers which we filled and headed ashore to laze on the beach and devour! The boys headed off to the other side of the island to explore while we swam in the crystal clear waters that lay in front of us!!! Then sadly we had to board the tender back to the MOONSHADOW for our trip back... With a nor easterly pushing us home we were very fortunate to see 3 large pods of false killer whales frolicking around us for 15 minutes or more!!! WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!! After a hot coffee and some chocolate cake we were invited to rest awhile in the BOOM NET before heading back to NELSON BAY! Thank you MOONSHADOW and your staff for treating us to a day we all will never forget !!!!!!!

Dear CBIRD910, We really appreciate you taking the time and writing a positive review of your recent cruise with us to Broughton Island. I’m particularly pleased to read you got to see a pod of false killer whales. We are so lucky to have such an abundance of life in and around Port Stephens. Thanks again for the review and we hope we get to welcome you on board again in the future. Regards, Dianne Annable

It was an enjoyable ride on a very comfortable boat. We were on moonshadow vi. The cruise director was particularly nice and helpful sharing her experiences about dolphin, whales and great whites. Dolphins can be a bit elusive, but we certainly spotted several. I'd highly recommend this trip during whale season and if I make it back down under during the season I'd certainly use their service again.

Dear JWD915, Thank you for taking the time and writing a positive review for us of your recent Dolphin Watch from Nelson Bay. It would be great to have the opportunity to take you out to see the whales during the migration season (May until November). I think you would really enjoy the beautiful coastline & Islands off Port Stephens and of course the wildlife can be diverse and spectacular! Once again thank you for the review it really is most appreciated. Regards, Dianne Annable

Hi and thanks to the moonshadow crew who gave us one of the best cruises we have ever done! My wife and I went to Broughton Island last Sunday and had one of the best days ever. We arrived at Broughton Island and picniced with a great buffet lunch on some of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen. When I commented to a fellow passenger it was as nice as Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays he replied 'it is like it - but better'! It was great to see passengers sipping on beverages on the return journey and about 15 children had a ball in the boom net once we had come back into the heads. Will be doing this cruise many times but taking more of our family next time. Regards Glen W

Really enjoyed this cruise. Very relaxing and got to see lots of dolphins. It was good to see all the different areas of the bay. Staff were very friendly also.

I hope we get to welcome you back on board again in the future  Thanks again, Dianne Annable

Six adults were booked on the 7-10pm cruise...we were amazed to see beautifully set out restaurant style dining tables with top class auderves and the most amazing duo Paul and Sam...youthful, trendy, endearing personalities and 60'6-80's musical entertainment to die for. These guys are brilliant and played virtually non stop. Their items flowed well and served to enhance the overall entertainment value of the evening as the best food in the Bay was served. definetely do it again.

Dear DMY14, Thank you so much for taking the time and writing a positive review of your recent dinner cruise with us in Nelson Bay. I’m so pleased to read that you and your party enjoyed the food and certainly the entertainment duo. I will pass on your review to Paul and Sam (duo) I really hope that we get to see you on board again in the future. Regards, Dianne

My wife and I boarded the vessel around 7pm, the band was playing and canapes were at our table, the staff were courteous and polite, The buffet began at about 7:30 with a beautiful array of dishes to choose from, we took a walk around the boat and went up on top to watch the sunset, it was a bit windy but definitely worth it! We came back to our table as the duet began to play again, the music was greatly varied and Sam and Paul did a fantastic job, desert was great and after a few drinks we danced the night away. All in all we had a great night onboard, most enjoyable, highly recommended!

Dear Pete M, Thank you so much for the positive review of your recent dinner cruise with us in Port Stephens. It's really nice to read that you enjoyed your evening and our on board entertainers. Thanks again for the review it's sincerely appreciated. Regards, Dianne Annable
