2. Croatia A1 Coverage and Speed

Network coverage and speed is one of the key factors that one can consider when selecting the best mobile service provider. Here is an overview of Croatia A1’s coverage and speed capabilities:

2.1. A1 Coverage in Croatia

CROATIA MOBILE OPERATOR COVERAGE

Firstly, 1. A1 Croatia’s coverage is slightly higher compared to the other two leading operators, T-Mobile and Telemach, with coverage of 97% of the country. Nevertheless, A1 Croatia has a comparable 4G coverage to the other two operators covering 96% of the country.

The Opensignal report released in October 2023 has shown that A1 Croatia had a good speed for downloading and uploading. On the other hand, A1 Croatia fared the worst in coverage experience. A1 Croatia’s network was reported to be the less consistent among the three major operators according to the Opensignal report. Such a statement suggests that A1 Croatia customers will probably encounter some instability or ups and downs in their network performance. Here is a table comparing A1 Croatia’s coverage to the other two major operators:

In general, A1 Croatia is a reliable choice of mobile tariff in Croatia that gives the best value for money. However, users need to know that A1 Croatia does not have as strong of a network as the two bigger operators have.

2.2. A1 Speed in Croatia

CROATIA MOBILE OPERATORS SPEED

According to Opensignal’s October 2023 report, A1 Croatia provides an average download speed of 31.3 Mbps and average upload speed of 11.9 Mbps. This is a little bit lower than the other two large operators, T-Mobile and Telecom. Nevertheless, it is adequate for most common mobile data tasks of browsing the internet, watching videos, and using the social media.

Here is a table comparing A1 Croatia’s speed to the other two major operators:

These speeds reflect Opensignal data, and thus might differ from the values obtained in your region.

If speed is what you are concerned with, only your usage behavior will tell if you need A1 speed or you may survive with A1 Croatia’s speed.

For instance, if you are a heavy mobile user, such as watching high-definition videos and online games, then you should look for a different operator who has better speeds. While in case you are a light user of mobile data, A1 Croatia’s speed should do well for you.

Best SIM Cards In Croatia

Trying to figure out which telecom company offers the best SIM card deals for tourists can feel quite overwhelming. To help you with this task, today I’m going to go over the best SIM card options available in Croatia .

In this article, I will give you a general overview of the different options offered by the main mobile providers in Croatia so you can decide for yourself which is the best Croatian prepaid SIM card for your trip.

RECOMMENDED

Need an esim.

If you’re short on time, check the options from our most recommended providers for mobile internet around the world: Airalo and Nomad.

SIM card options available in Croatia

Croatia has 3 major telecom companies through which you can pick up a SIM card: Hrvatski Telekom, A1, and Telemach.

Let’s start by going over the SIM card options they have for tourists.

Hrvatski Telekom SIM card options for tourists

Hrvatski Telekom is T-Mobile branch in Croatia. They have the widest and fastest 4G and 5G coverage in the whole of Croatia (they’ve even won awards for it). So, getting a SIM card from Hrvatski Telekom is a great option for travelers who will be working remotely or exploring the lesser-known areas of the country.

Hrvatski Telekom offers two prepaid SIM packages in Croatia exclusively for tourists and travelers:

  • The first costs €9.90 or 74.59kn , and it offers 80GB of mobile data for 30 days . This package only offers 4G speed .
  • The second has a slightly higher price point costing €11.49 or 86.57kn for unlimited mobile data for 10 days . Alternatively, for just a little more you can pick up a package that offers 70GB of mobile data for €11.95 or 90.04kn . The higher price point for this package is down to it offering 5G speed.

You can check more information on Hrvatski Telekom’s official website .

There are also options available to top-up your account if you happen to be staying longer than 30 days, or if you use up all your data. If a top-up is necessary, you can do it online by downloading the Moj Telekom HR app. Another option for topping up is to pick up a Simpa voucher from a T-Centar, petrol station, post office, newsstand, or supermarket.

One thing that is important to note is that despite Croatia being in the EU, your tourist SIM card with Hrvatski Telekom will only work inside Croatia – it won’t grant you free data roaming across the rest of the EU. So if you plan on traveling to other destinations in Europe within the same trip, you may want to consider another option ( continue reading to check our tip).

A1 SIM card options for tourists

Next up we have A1, which is also a major player in the telecom market boasting over 24 million customers throughout Europe. They have excellent network coverage throughout the country, but overall Hrvatski Telekom still takes the top spot in terms of coverage.

A1 offers one prepaid SIM card option for Croatia dedicated to tourists. This package offers 5G speeds provided that your phone has 5G capabilities.

For just €10 or 75.35kn, you can get access to a tourist package that lasts for 10 days , with unlimited mobile data . Where A1 differs from Hrvatski Telekom is that it also offers up to 100 minutes/SMS messages to local Croatian numbers.

You can top up your A1 account online through the A1 app and the company’s webpage. Recharge your balance at physical locations including ATMs, post offices, A1 stores, and petrol stations.

Unfortunately, the prepaid SIM card for Croatia from A1 also doesn’t offer EU roaming – it will only work within Croatia. If you need more information, check the A1 website directly .

Telemach SIM card options for tourists

Telemach is the third major company operating in Croatia. They are a large telecom company operating throughout the whole of Southeastern Europe.

The coverage offered by Telemach was often considered the worst among all three providers because they didn’t have coverage in Croatia’s rural areas. However, as of 2023, Telemach’s 5G coverage now extends across the whole country, putting all three providers at a similar level.

Telemach has two prepaid SIM card packages available to tourists in Croatia:

  • NET2GO – this prepaid SIM card offers users an unlimited amount of GBs for 10 days . It costs €9.95 or 75kn .
  • SIM2GO – coming in at €9.95 (75kn) too, this Croatian tourist SIM is valid for 30 days . In terms of data, this SIM offers just 10GB for a duration of 30 days. However, you will get 200 minutes of local calls.

There’s no information on whether Telemach offers 4G or 5G on their site. However, I did contact their customer service team who informed me that their SIMs are not 5G enabled . So, you’ll only have 4G speeds with a Telemach Croatia SIM card for tourists.

Top-ups can be done by texting various codes listed on their website. You can also top-up through the app, or using vouchers brought online, in Telemach stores, newsstands, supermarkets, post offices, and petrol stations.

Once again, Telemach tourist SIM cards only offer coverage for Croatia – outside of Croatia they won’t work. Read more on Telemach’s official website .

Which is the best Croatia SIM card for tourists?

For a trip of 10 days or less.

The best prepaid SIM card in Croatia for short trips is the one offered by A1 . It costs only €10 and gives you unlimited data with 5G speed. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Additionally, A1’s package also gives 100 free minutes of calls and texts to local numbers. Even though I never use calls at home, they can come in handy when traveling, especially if you will be renting apartments via Airbnb or Booking. Having the possibility of calling your host can be extremely helpful.

For a trip of longer than 10 days

For a trip longer than 10 days to Croatia, my recommendation does change.

In this case, Hrvatski Telekom’s 1st package is the best deal for anyone who wants a prepaid SIM card for their Croatia trip. For only €9.90, you will get 80 GB of data for 30 days, which is a very good value.

The main trade-off with this package is that it doesn’t have access to 5G speeds.

However, I only recommend this package if you will be staying only in Croatia . If you will be visiting other countries within the same trip, you may want to consider other options that have better international coverage. See my recommendation below .

Croatia sim cards

Best SIM card for traveling to Croatia and other European countries

If you will be visiting multiple European countries within the same trip, instead of buying a SIM card for each destination, you may want to consider picking up an eSIM instead.

With an eSIM, you can easily get EU-wide coverage or you can select the exact countries you will be visiting and tailor a plan exactly to your needs.

Our favorite eSIM providers are Airalo and Nomad. We have used their mobile plans in multiple countries and have always had great experience.

What is the best SIM card for Croatia and Slovenia?

It depends on which country you will be visiting first. If Slovenia will be your first destination, you can buy a Slovenian prepaid SIM card with EU coverage such as the HoT plan, and use it for both destinations.

However, if you will be visiting Croatia first, the best option would be to buy an eSIM because the Croatian prepaid SIM card options do not offer EU coverage. In this case, get a quote with Airalo or Nomad to avoid the hassle of having to buy a SIM card in every country.

What is the best SIM card for Croatia and Montenegro?

Since Montenegro is not part of the EU, most local prepaid SIM cards will not offer the option of data coverage in both countries.

In this case, the best choice is to get an eSIM from Airalo or Nomad and tailor a plan to your needs.

Where to buy prepaid SIM cards in Croatia?

SIM cards are widely available all over Croatia, so you should have little trouble finding them. Here are the options of places you can buy prepaid SIM cards from each of Croatia’s main telecom companies.

  • Hrvatski Telekom – You can buy a Hrvatski Telekom SIM card at T-Centars, Tisak (convenience store), iNovine (newsstands), and post offices. You can also arrange to have a SIM delivered to you for free .
  • A1 – You can buy A1’s SIM cards in A1 stores, newsstands, petrol stations, supermarkets, convenience stores and post offices. You can also order your A1 SIM online here .
  • Telemach – Like the other two mobile providers, you can buy a Telemach SIM from all the usual stores including Telemach Shops, newsstands, supermarkets, post offices, and petrol stations. There’s currently no option to order a Telemach SIM online.

It’s worth noting you should be able to buy a SIM card at all major Croatian airports upon arrival . Just head for the nearest convenience store in the airport (probably a Tisak). I’ve done this multiple times when visiting Croatia. Just make sure you don’t fall for the overpriced international mobile plans they sometimes offer.

Best Tourist Sim Cards in Croatia in 2024

a1 tourist sim croatia

If you’re planning a trip to Croatia, having a reliable sim card is essential to make the most of your visit.

Having internet access while traveling allows you to easily navigate new cities, discover the best restaurants, find directions to your accommodation, book taxis, and share your adventures with your loved ones.

While roaming is an option, the costs can quickly add up, especially when traveling internationally. Therefore, we highly recommend either obtaining an eSIM or a local sim card to benefit from local phone rates.

Fortunately, acquiring either an eSIM or a local sim card in Croatia is simple and hassle-free. To help you make an informed choice, this guide provides you with all the necessary information about buying a sim card in Croatia, including up-to-date pricing and recommendations for the best sim card that suits your needs.

Table of Contents

Best sim card in croatia for tourists.

The best sim card in Croatia is the prepaid tourist sim card by A1. For just 10 EUR you will get unlimited 5G data across Croatia as well as 100 minutes / SMS. This is an amazing deal!

On top of this, A1 has the best network coverage, reliability and download speeds in Croatia making it the best option regardless of price.

The only catch is that with A1 you only get 10 days with the sim card. After this you need to text Daily to 13220 each day and you will be able to extend the package for 3 EUR per day. This is fine if you have only a few extra days, but if you were planning 30 days in Croatia this would cost you 70 EUR!

Telemach is worth considering if you are visiting Croatia for longer than 10 days as they also offer a 30 day plan with 10GB data for the same 10 EUR price, which is plenty of data for most travellers. Or check out the Airalo eSim below.

If you prefer the convenience of an eSim (and who doesn’t, they’re amazing) then make sure to check out the Airalo Croatia eSim . At about 14 EUR ($15 USD) for 5GB of data valid for 30 days it’s still a pretty good deal and a lot easier than visiting a store in person and installing a physical sim card.

As the Airalo eSim is valid for 30 days, I can recommend it to anyone looking for the best value sim card for trip durations between 10 and 30 days. You don’t get unlimited data but it’s cheaper than A1 after 12 days.

Croatia Sim Card Prices

A Tourist Sim Card in Croatia costs 10 EUR in April 2024, however, the exact price will often depend on the store you visit and the plan you choose.

Alternatively, an eSim in Croatia will cost between $5 USD and $15 USD. This, again, depends on how much data you require and which eSim provider you choose.

I generally recommend this Airalo plan for most tourists visiting Croatia which includes 5GB of data which is valid for 30 days and costs $15 USD.

How to Get a Sim Card in Croatia

Identify mobile providers: A1, T-Mobile and Telemach are your best options in Croatia.

Find your nearest store: Locate a store or retailer by searching on Google Maps for your nearest store or asking at your hotel reception. I’ve never had issues finding a store as they can usually be found in major cities, shopping centers, or tourist areas. If possible, I always recommend to to avoid airports and head in to an official store in the city.

Bring the necessary documents: It is always a good idea to carry your passport or identification documents for sim card registration purposes. We’ve found most providers will need to confirm your identity to provide a sim card and it can be a major hassle to head to a store only to have to come back again later with your passport.

Choose your plan: Either request the plan you are after or consult with the staff in the store to select the right plan for you. My recommendations at the beginning of this guide are a good starting point, but the staff will usually be able to suggest the best option.

Pay and activate your card: Pay for the SIM card and plan, and the staff will activate it for you.

Test: It’s always a good idea to check that you can access the internet before you leave the store. I always search for something on Google then refresh my Instagram feed to check it’s working fine.

Where to Get a Sim Card in Croatia

At the airport.

Buying a prepaid sim card for Croatia at the airport is usually considered the most convenient option for travellers arriving by plane.

However, airport stores selling sim cards are almost guaranteed to charge inflated prices, so if you are a cost-conscious traveller then you should definitely buy your sim card from a store in the city center.

In addition to this, we would argue that buying physical sim cards at all aren’t particularly convenient now that most people use esim compatible phones. If you are looking for the most convenient option, then buying an esim before you arrive or with the airport wifi is much easier and will save you having to queue up or communicate with staff.

If you must purchase a sim card at the airport in Croatia then you will be in luck. All major international airports in Croatia have stores selling sim cards. Despite the prices being higher than normal, the staff are knowledgable and will be able to get you set up with the correct sim card relatively quickly.

If you want to avoid the inflated sim card prices you’ll find at the airport and your phone isn’t esim compatible, then you’re going to need to head in to a store to buy your sim card.

I recommend visiting one of the official retail stores of the mobile internet operators such as A1, T-Mobile and Telemach. Your best option is to enter their names into Google Maps and find the branch closest to your hotel or accommodation. Typically the staff in the official stores in Croatia are knowledgable and helpful which means you can ensure you’ll walk away with a functioning sim card.

Despite this, it’s always a good idea to check your internet is working before you leave the store by loading a Google search results page and your preferred social media app. You should also ensure you always bring your passport with you when purchasing a sim card in case they need to register it.

If you like to be prepared and would prefer to arrive in Croatia with your sim card all sorted and your phone ready to connect to the internet immediately then you should look into purchasing a sim card online.

The first option is to buy your sim card in advance via SimOptions, which is a company that will prepare and ship a sim card directly to your door. It’s a reliable and effective service, but with the invention of eSims it’s becoming obsolete.

The better option is to purchase an eSim online. We’ve written more on that below!

Croatia eSim

An eSim is a digital version of a traditional sim card and is most likely the future of connectivity for mobile devices. The convenience of no longer visiting a store, handing over your passport and purchasing a physical sim card is quickly making physical sim cards obsolete in favour of eSims.

We recommend Airalo’s eSim when travelling to Croatia. The Airalo Croatia eSim offers fast internet speeds, wide coverage and extremely competitive prices making it a far more compelling option than purchasing a physical sim card from any of the local sim card providers.

In order to get set up with an Airalo eSim , all you need to do is visit Airalo here and purchase the eSim online (the $15 USD plan is suitable for most travellers). Once you’ve purchased the sim card Airalo will email you instructions and a QR code. Following these instructions should take just a couple of minutes, then you’ll have a sim card in Croatia without having to venture outside.

Airalo Croatia

Our preferred eSim provider in Croatia is Airalo . We used them, alongside a local sim card on another device, for our most recent trip to Croatia and found the service to be equal to the local sim card but without the hassle of acquiring a sim card in a store.

Airalo’s Croatia eSim uses the Telemach network to provide data and connect users to the internet. You can expect very good coverage and reliability with the Telemach networknetwork as they are amongst the best mobile internet operators in Croatia.

Here are the plans and prices for Airalo’s Croatia eSim:

1GB data valid for 7 days – Price: $5 USD 3GB data valid for 30 days – Price: $10 USD 5GB data valid for 30 days – Price: $15 USD

For most travellers we recommend the 5GB data plan for $15 USD which is valid for 30 days. Some travellers may prefer a larger plan, whilst travellers visiting for just a couple of days may be fine with a smaller plan.

Holafly Croatia

An alternative eSim provider we can recommend is Holafly.

Holafly’s eSim is a suitable option for travellers who require large amounts of data, such as digital nomads and people who work online while they travel. All of Holafly’s Croatia eSims offer unlimited data.

Holafly’s Croatia eSim uses the Tele2network to provide data and connect users to the internet. This network will provide reliable speeds and coverage while in Croatia

Here are the plans and prices for Holafly’s Croatia eSim:

Unlimited data valid for 5 days – Price: $19 USD Unlimited data valid for 7 days – Price: $27 USD Unlimited data valid for 10 days – Price: $34 USD Unlimited data valid for 15 days – Price: $47 USD Unlimited data valid for 20 days – Price: $54 USD Unlimited data valid for 30 days – Price: $64 USD Unlimited data valid for 60 days – Price: $84 USD Unlimited data valid for 90 days – Price: $99 USD

What is an eSim?

An eSIM, also known as an embedded SIM, is a digital SIM card that is built into devices like smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches. It does not require a physical card to be inserted or removed from the device.

Instead, the eSIM is integrated into the hardware of the device and can be remotely activated and programmed by a mobile network operator. This allows users to easily switch between different mobile networks or plans without the hassle of physically changing SIM cards.

eSIM technology offers convenience, flexibility, and ease of use, especially for frequent travelers or those who regularly switch between mobile networks or travel internationally. It eliminates the need to purchase and insert physical SIM cards, making it more convenient to manage multiple mobile connections on a single device.

To activate an eSIM, users can either scan a QR code provided by their mobile network operator or manually enter activation details. Once activated, the device can connect to the chosen mobile network and enjoy voice, data, and messaging services, just like with a traditional SIM card.

Why Use an eSim?

There are several reasons why using an eSIM can be beneficial. Firstly, it offers convenience as there is no need to physically insert or remove a SIM card when changing mobile networks or plans. This is particularly useful for frequent travelers who may need to switch networks or use local SIM cards in different countries.

Secondly, eSIM allows for dual SIM functionality on your device, meaning you can have two active mobile numbers on the same device. This can be useful for separating personal and work numbers or for managing multiple phone lines.

Furthermore, eSIMs are embedded within the device, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card slot. This saves space within the device, enabling manufacturers to make devices smaller or utilize the extra space for other components.

Additionally, eSIMs allow for remote provisioning, enabling activation and management of mobile plans to be done over the air. This means you can activate or switch to a new mobile plan without needing a physical SIM card or visiting a store, providing greater flexibility and convenience for managing your mobile connectivity.

Lastly, eSIM technology is future-proof as more mobile networks and service providers offer support for eSIMs. By using an eSIM-compatible device, you can take advantage of new services and offerings as they become available.

Overall, eSIM technology offers flexibility, convenience, and future-proofing for mobile connectivity, making it a compelling choice for many users.

eSim Supported Phones

eSIM technology is becoming increasingly popular and is supported by a growing number of smartphones and other devices. Here are some examples of eSIM-compatible phones:

Apple iPhone series (iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, etc.): Apple was one of the early adopters of eSIM technology and offers support for eSIM on various iPhone models.

Google Pixel series (Pixel 3, Pixel 4, Pixel 5, etc.): Google’s Pixel smartphones also support eSIM functionality, allowing users to activate and use eSIMs.

Samsung Galaxy series (Galaxy S22, Galaxy Note 20, etc.): Many of Samsung’s flagship devices now come with eSIM support, enabling users to utilize eSIM technology.

OnePlus devices (OnePlus 7, OnePlus 8, etc.): OnePlus has included eSIM support in some of its smartphone models, offering users the flexibility of using eSIMs.

Motorola Razr (2020): The latest iteration of the iconic Motorola Razr features eSIM compatibility, enabling users to use eSIMs for cellular connectivity.

These are just a few examples, and the list of eSIM-compatible phones continues to expand as more manufacturers embrace this technology. There’s a very strong chance your phone supports eSims so if you’re unsure we recommend looking it up on our list of eSim supported phones .

How to Use an eSim

Using an eSim is new for many travellers, however, the good news is it’s surprisingly easy to get set up – even for the technologically challenged!

Here’s a general guide on how to use an eSIM:

Check eSIM Compatibility: Ensure that your device supports eSIM functionality. Many newer smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and other devices are eSIM compatible including all iPhones produced since 2018.

Obtain an eSIM: There are multiple ways to acquire an eSIM. You can purchase an eSIM online from a provider like Airalo (which we recommend) or directly from a mobile network operator. Some devices also allow you to scan a QR code provided by your carrier to download the eSIM profile.

Activate the eSIM: Your eSim provider will send you instructions to activate the sim. This will usually involve scanning a QR code, entering an activation code, or downloading the eSIM profile directly onto your device.

Set up the eSIM: Once activated, your device will guide you through the eSIM setup process. This typically involves selecting the eSIM as your preferred mobile plan, configuring settings like data roaming, and entering any necessary authentication details.

Enjoy the Connection: Once the eSIM is set up, you can use it as you would with a physical SIM card. Make calls, send messages, browse the internet, and use data services as needed. You can also switch between eSIM profiles if you have multiple eSIMs installed on your device.

Buying a Sim Card for Croatia in 2024

a1 tourist sim croatia

Traveling to Croatia soon planning your trip and wondering what is the best prepaid sim card for Croatia? Don't get stuck with high roaming charges or slow overseas data roaming plans. This is the ultimate guide for finding the best way to stay connected when traveling to Croatia in 2024.

Find out everything you need to know about buying a prepaid sim card in Croatia, a comparison of the prepaid sim cards, up to date prices as per March 2024, the best e-sim cards for Croatia, the best 4G/5G network in Croatia, my recommendation, info about EU data roaming, international sim cards and more.

The first thing I do when planning my next trip abroad is finding the best way to get connected. In the past I always used to buy a local prepaid sim card but nowadays I mostly use e-sim cards as there is no easier way to stay connected when traveling abroad.

As Traveltomtom is on a  journey to travel to every country in the world I use on average about 40 to 50 prepaid sim cards and e-sim cards per year to stay connected and that is how Traveltomtom became the ultimate specialist in sim cards for tourists.

Flying to Zagreb? Then check out my guide for buying a sim card at Zagreb Airport .

Since I am already a full time nomadic travel blogger  since 2012 and I like to document all my travel tips you can find already more than 200 sim card guides on Traveltomtom from all over the world: Europe , Istanbul , Turkey , Rome , Italy , London , UK , New York , USA , Saudi Arabia , Israel , Moscow , Hong Kong , Malaysia , Colombia , Cameroon , Brazil , Colombia , Mexico , Philippines , Vietnam  and many more.

So next time you are planning your adventure abroad come check out Traveltomtom for the latest prepaid and e-sim card advice for your next holiday destination. Bookmark me and let me help you save money!

Why buying a sim card for Croatia?

First of all to save on high roaming charges. Why waste money when operators keep on charging this stupid amount of $10 a day for internet abroad. Secondly, did you know that your data speed is reduced! Getting an e-sim card for Croatia or buying a prepaid sim card in Croatia is easy, fast and cheap and will eventually save you a lot of money.

Yes, your hotel or Airbnb provides free WiFi and so do restaurants and bars in popular tourist destinations in Croatia. In fact the free public WiFi is pretty good in Croatia, but... as soon as you go off the beaten path for example when on a road trip, into the national parks, visiting waterfalls, on a ferry, sailing boat, out on the streets in Dubrovnik, etc. there is NO WiFi.

Being disconnected for a bit is awesome, but also highly inconvenient when traveling. What about ordering a taxi through an app, finding directions on Google Maps or searching for a restaurant nearby with good reviews, finding your friends in a city, etc. Just like in normal life, being connected with data on your phone when traveling to Croatia makes things so much easier and more convenient.

My recommendation

Traveltomtom recommends a T-Mobile sim card for traveling in Croatia. For $13 USD you get unlimited data high speed data for 10 days and the T-Mobile 4G/5G network is by far the best in Croatia.

Buying a prepaid sim card in Croatia takes time, so for those who rather arrive prepared Traveltomtom recommends ordering an e-sim card for Croatia on the internet.

You can already order a Croatia e-sim card from just $4.5 USD and there are e-sims valid in all of Europe with 30 GB data for $49.90 or just get 1 GB data for 7 days for $5 USD.

Traveltomtom recommends ordering an e-sim card for Croatia via SimOptions or Airalo .

If you prefer to receive a physical prepaid sim card delivered to your home address before your trip than consider buying an international prepaid sim card for Croatia on the internet. You can already get 30 GB data for $44.90 USD.

Check out Traveltomtom's  comparison of the best international sim cards for traveling in 2024  and choose the one that fits your trip to Europe.

There is also a third e-sim card provider that Traveltomtom has used and it is called Nomad . Traveltomtom has faced some issues with the installation of the e-sim cards in the past.

Before ordering an e-sim card for Croatia make sure your phone is unlocked and e-sim compatible otherwise an e-sim card won't work on your phone.

If your phone is not e-sim compatible but you still would like to order a sim card for Croatia online then a great alternative is a physical prepaid sim card for Croatia. These prepaid sim cards will be delivered to your home address before your trip.

You can already get 10 GB data + unlimited calls/text in all of Europe for $24.90 USD. SimOptions is the only sim card provider who offers physical prepaid sim cards for Croatia. Click here to order a physical prepaid sim card for Croatiaorder a physical prepaid sim card for Croatia .

Croatia sim cards and free EU roaming

Although Croatia is part of the EU and also Schengen as per January 2023 there should be no roaming costs if you already have a sim card from Italy , Denmark , Sweden , UK , Germany  or any other country in Europe.

The other way around when buying a prepaid sim card in Croatia and traveling onwards to other European countries you should be able to use your data at no extra costs as well. However, this does NOT count for the tourist sim cards you buy in Croatia!

But be aware that these Croatia tourist sim cards are only valid in Croatia. So if you are on a road trip in the Balkan be ready to get a prepaid or e-sim card separately for every country or get yourself and international prepaid sim card or an international e-sim card for traveling in the Balkan.

When buying a prepaid sim card in Croatia always ask about the free roaming limitations when traveling onwards to other European countries.

But whatever they will tell you, trust me, Croatia prepaid sim cards are NOT good for traveling in Europe! Check out my article about the best Europe sim card for tourists in 2024  and I tell you everything you need to know how to stay connected during your Europe trip.

Or check my guide for buying a local prepaid sim card in Europe  on arrival with all my tips for when you are traveling to Europe and wondering which prepaid sim card to buy and much more information about free EU roaming.

Mobile internet operators in Croatia

There are three mobile internet operators in Croatia: T-Mobile Croatia, A1 and Telemach Croatia. All three providers offer Croatia prepaid sim cards for tourists.

Where to buy a sim card for Croatia

a1 tourist sim croatia

The best places to buy a prepaid sim card for Croatia are in the city centers of any big tourist destination and city. T-Mobile, A1 and Telemach all have shops in Zagreb, Zadar, Pula, Dubrovnik, Split, etc. The Croatia sim card deals you find at the international airports are more expensive, but more convenient.

When in the city use Google Maps to determine the nearest mobile internet shop by just typing in the by you preferred mobile internet provider in the search bar.

Zagreb Airport

a1 tourist sim croatia

As of March 2024 they sell prepaid sim cards for tourists from Telemach, A1 and T-Mobile at the Tisak convenience store in the Arrival Hall. Click here to read my complete guide for buying a sim card at Zagreb Airport in 2024 .

Split, Dubrovnik and Zadar Airport

I have done research online about buying a sim card at these airports in Croatia and found out that every airport sells the same prepaid sim cards in the Tisak convenience stores, like at Zagreb Airport.

Convenience stores / gas stations

In Croatia it is NOT necessary to bring your passport when buying a prepaid sim card. Prepaid sim cards are NOT registered on your name. This makes it possible to buy a prepaid sim card for Croatia in the bigger convenience stores. In Croatia they are called: Tisak, INA, iNovine and Hrvatska Posta. At bigger gas stations they also sell prepaid sim cards. The sim cards you buy here are self service and you will need to activate them yourself. It is not my first recommendation for tourists traveling to Croatia.

The easiest way to stay connected when traveling to Croatia is to order a sim card online. As soon as the plane lands you can enjoy a data connection on your phone. You can order international physical prepaid sim cards , international e-sim cards and e-sim cards for Croatia right now on the internet and get it done in just 2 minutes and there is no need to find a sim card shop once you arrive in Croatia.

Best 4G/5G mobile network in Croatia in 2024

Prices for prepaid sim card plans for tourists are not the only thing that determines the best sim card for traveling in Croatia. In fact the mobile data network coverage is actually even more important. Therefore let's compare the  4G/5G networks coverage maps for Croatia  for 2024 and find the best 4G/5G network.

Is there 5G in Croatia?

Yes, there is 5G in Croatia and it is actually pretty ok. As per March 2024 you can find 5G in most of the popular tourists destination in Croatia. On my recent trip in Croatia I enjoyed a 5G signal most of the time in Zagreb, Zadar, Split and even in Plitvice National Park, but it depends which sim card you buy.

T-Mobile 4G/5G network coverage map

tmobile 4g 5g network coverage map croatia 2024

A1 4G/5G network coverage map

a1 4g 5g network coverage map croatia 2024

Telemach 4G/5G network coverage map

telemach 4g 5g network coverage map croatia 2024

Although the above mobile data network coverage maps are updated for 2024 they are not 100% accurate. However, they are a great reference to compare the 4G/5G networks of the mobile internet providers in Croatia in 2024.

From the above coverage maps we can clearly see that T-Mobile has the best 4G/5G network in Croatia in 2024 . Telemach also covers most tourist destinations in Croatia with a 5G signal, but for road trips in Croatia T-Mobile is definitely the recommend sim card for tourists in Croatia.

So for people that go on a sailing trip in Croatia the best prepaid sim card is T-Mobile. T-Mobile has the strongest network around the islands by far.

All the below prices are up to date as per March 2024. Prices are in Euros and $1 USD = €0.92 EUR and €1 EUR = $1.09 USD.

Great thing about buying a prepaid sim card in Croatia is that the tourist sim cards include unlimited high speed data.

The biggest difference between the mobile internet operators in Croatia is the mobile network coverage. T-Mobile has by far the best 4G/5G network in Croatia and therefore T-Mobile is the best sim card for traveling in Croatia in 2024.

The mobile internet providers in Croatia do not offer e-sim cards. If you want to buy an e-sim card for Croatia then simply order one online. Traveltomtom recommends ordering an e-sim card for Croatia via SimOptions or Airalo .

The best esim for croatia | data plan buyer’s guide.

What travelers need to know about buying a prepaid eSIM data plans in Croatia.

phones and technology

A prepaid eSim is the cheapest and easiest way to get high-speed mobile data while visiting Croatia—so don’t spend a fortune on slow and inconstant data by using your current plan’s international data service package. In this mobile data plan guide, I’ll show you how to find the best prepaid eSIM for Croatia so you can get reliable high-speed data without spending a lot of money.

Are You In A Rush? I recommend buying a Croatia eSIM plan from either SimOptions or Holafly . Both companies offer affordable prepaid data plans—continue reading this article for more in-depth, specific recommendations.

Why You Should Avoid Using Your Home Plan’s International Data Plan

Your current mobile provider should have an international data plan option but they’re expensive and the service is often slow, inconsistent, and has limited data allowances.

For example, many TMobile plans come with free “unlimited” international data but you’re only guaranteed 2g data speeds… which will struggle to load Google Maps or even email.

Or there’s the AT&T International Day Pass which costs $10/day. They also have their AT&T Passport plan, a monthly plan that’s either $70/month for 2GB of data or $140/month for 6GB. Then they charge an insane overage of $30 per GB.

These “international data plans” are 5X as expensive as buying a Croatia eSIM data plan from a third-party provider—for example, eSIM data plans from Orange or Holafly will cost you around $2-$3/day.

For more in-depth information on international data plans and eSIM, check out my guide on How To Use Smartphones and Data Plans In Europe and my Guide To eSIM data plans in Europe .

Comparing The Best eSIM Data Plans for Croatia

a1 tourist sim croatia

There are a handful of different mobile providers in Croatia ( T-Mobile Croatia ,  A1 Croatia , and  Telemach Croatia/Net2Go .) but it’s difficult for tourists to get a Croatian eSIM because they’re typically only offered to customers with long-term contracts.

The other option is to buy a prepaid eSIM data plan that’s geared toward short-term visitors. These plans are much more “tourist-friendly” so you don’t have to mess with registration, weird translation issues, etc.

For this guide, I’ll focus on these “tourist-friendly” eSIM plans.

Each eSIM plan I’ve listed is slightly different so pay attention to the specific details—here are the main things to consider:

  • Data Allowance: Plans typically give you a set amount of mobile data (i.e. 5GB, 10GB, 30GB, etc) but others give you unlimited data over a set amount of time (5 days, 15 days, 30 days, etc).
  • Plan Length: eSIM data plans can be valid anywhere from about 5 days to 90 days.
  • Mobile Hot Spot Tethering: Most eSIM plans don’t allow you to use your phone as a mobile hot spot.
  • NOTE: You can still use iMessage to “text” between iPhones but you can’t send messages between iPhones and Android phones. Or you can download WhatsApp to send messages over data (which is what most Europeans do).

Orange Holiday Europe eSIM (50GB) For Croatia: $59.90

a1 tourist sim croatia

  • Price:  $59.90 (Check  SimOptions  for details)
  • Data:  50GB
  • Service Speed:  4G/LTE
  • Calls:  Unlimited within Europe and 120 min outside of Europe.
  • Texts/SMS:  Unlimited within Europe and 1000 outside of Europe.
  • Credit validity:  28 day
  • Data Tethering:  Allowed
  • Usable on any device (phones, tablets, hotspots…)
  • This eSIM plan comes with a French phone number that can still be used anywhere in Europe
  • Service works everywhere in the EU

Are you a data-hungry traveler? Consider the newly released  Orange Holiday Europe 50GB eSIM data plan  which is a beefed-up version of the Orange Holiday Europe eSIM. It has 50GB of data and it’s valid for 28 days (compared to 14 days with the Orange Holiday Europe plan). This eSIM also comes with many features you don’t find with other plans—including international voice calling and texts (it gives you an actual French phone number that works anywhere in Europe).

The Orange Holiday Europe eSIM plan also allows you to use your phone as a mobile hotspot so you can put that extra data allowance to good use. Orange is also one of the largest mobile companies in Europe so you’ll always get great coverage and high data speeds.

ORANGE HOLIDAY EUROPE ESIM FOR CROATIA: $49.90

Best eSIM Croatia - Orange Holiday Europe eSIM

  • Price:  $49.90 (Check  SimOptions  for details)
  • Data:  20GB (Orange often gives you 30GB of data)
  • Credit validity:  14 day
  • Data Tethering: Allowed
  • This eSIM plan comes with a French phone number that can still be used in Italy

The Orange Holiday Europe eSIM data plan is the most robust eSIM plan on this list because it comes with many features you don’t find with other plans—including international voice calling and texts (it gives you an actual French phone number that will work anywhere in Europe). The Orange Holiday Europe eSIM plan also allows you to use your phone as a mobile hotspot.

This plan comes with 20GB of data but Orange sometimes runs a special where they give you an extra 10GB—but even 20GB should be plenty of data for most users. Orange is also one of the largest mobile companies in Europe so you’ll always get great coverage and high data speeds.

The potential downside to the Orange Holiday Europe eSIM is that it’s only valid for 14 days once activated so it’s not great for longer visits (but you can always buy a second plan).

I’ve personally used the Orange Holiday Europe plan while traveling through Europe and it worked flawlessly. Read my Orange Holiday Europe review to hear more.

Bouygues My European eSIM: $44.90

a1 tourist sim croatia

Bouygues is another major French telecommunications company and they’ve recently released their own prepaid eSIM data plan to compete with the popular Orange Holiday Europe eSIM plan. I used a prepaid Bouygues SIM card on a previous trip to Europe so I’m glad they’re finally offering an eSIM.

There’s a lot to like about the Bouygues My European eSIM plan—especially since it comes standard with 30GB of data and unlimited calls/texts within Europe. I also like how this Bouygues eSIM plan is valid for 30 days so it’s a great option for longer trips.

  • Price: $44.90 (Check SimOptions for details)
  • Service Speed: 4G/LTE
  • Calls: Unlimited within Europe and credit for overseas calls
  • Texts/SMS: Unlimited within Europe and credit for overseas sms
  • Credit validity: 30 day
  • Phone Number: This eSIM card comes with a French phone number
  • Coverage : Anywhere within the European Union (except Switzerland)

ORANGE HOLIDAY ZEN ESIM FOR CROATIA: $29.90

Best eSIM Croatia - Orange Holiday Zen eSIM

  • Price:  $29.90 (Check  SimOptions  for details)
  • Data:  8GB (they sometimes give you 15GB of data)
  • Service Speed:  4G/LTE
  • Calls:  Unlimited within Europe and 30 min outside of Europe.
  • Texts/SMS:  Unlimited within Europe and 200 outside of Europe.
  • This eSIM plan comes with a French phone number that can still be used in Croatia

The Orange Holiday Zen eSIM is the budget version of the Orange Holiday Europe eSIM plan listed above. It comes with 8GB of data and has fewer voice minutes and texts, otherwise, it’s the same as the Orange Holiday Europe eSIM plan.

Most users will use more than 8GB of data while traveling for a week or two but light data users could easily use less than 8GB of data during a typical 10-14 day trip.

HOLAFLY CROATIA UNLIMITED DATA ESIM: STARTING AT $34.00

best Croatia eSIM - Holafly eSIM

  • 10 Days: $34
  • 15 Days: $47
  • 20 Days: $54
  • 30 Days: $64
  • 60 Days: $84
  • 90 Days: $99
  • Service Speed:  5G/4G/LTE
  • Calls coverage:  60 minutes of credit make calls from all of Europe—except Iceland, Norway, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Turkey. Comes with an Austrian phone number.
  • SMS:  None
  • Tethering:  No
  • Data service works everywhere in the EU

Holafly  is a new eSIM provider that I previously used while in Europe and had a great experience (read my  Holafly eSIM Review  to get a more in-depth look). Holafly sells both Croatia-specific plans and Europe-wide data plans.

Holafly isn’t an actual mobile carrier but they rent bandwidth from local Croatian mobile provider networks—the only downside is that you’re more likely to get less priority on the local network during peak usage times.

Unlike other mobile companies, Holafly gives you unlimited data and a local phone number with 60 minutes of credit for making/receiving calls from European numbers. I also like how Holafly’s plans come in durations from 5 to 90 days—so you don’t have to over/underbuy for your particular trip.

Holafly doesn’t allow data tethering in most cases so you won’t be able to use your phone as a mobile hotspot.

MORE TIPS ON USING YOUR MOBILE PHONE IN CROATIA

I’ve written extensively about using  smartphones and data plans in Europe  and tips for  buying SIM Cards For Visiting Europe  but below are some more helpful tips about using your phone in Croatia.

GET A PORTABLE BATTERY CHARGER

Traveling with your phone will quickly drain your batteries so I highly recommend a portable battery. I use  Anker PowerCore 10000  because it’s tiny and affordable but there are multiple options.

TAKE STEPS TO LOWER YOUR MOBILE DATA USAGE

Data can be expensive and it’s extremely easy to unknowingly burn through a lot of data because many apps use data in the background. Facebook, email, Instagram, Snapchat… those all constantly use data throughout the day without you knowing it. That’s it’s important to know how to limit your data usage.

USE AIRPLANE MODE AND BLOCK DATA TO SPECIFIC APPS

I’ll put my phone in Airplane Mode because that disables all data (but GPS still works in Airplane Mode). You can also disable data access to each individual app in the settings. I’ll go in and turn every off except for things like Google Maps or others that I’ll use more frequently — this way when I turn off Airplane Mode only those apps that will use data. Then I’ll turn Airplane Mode back on when I’m done.

DOWNLOAD OFFLINE MAPS

Google Maps lets you download entire city maps so they can be used offline. As an added bonus, GPS doesn’t use data so offline Google Maps works fairly well (but not all functionality works). Here is a good  YouTube video  that explains everything.

Best eSim For Croatia (Connect Anywhere, Anytime)

Traveling to Croatia and you want to have Internet access while you’re there? Then you’ve come to the right place because this detailed guide to the best travel eSims for Croatia includes all the top options for tourists!

I’ve also included a few options for local physical sim cards, which offer better value for money than international eSims, so consider those if your phone still supports physical sim cards. Another option is Europe-wide eSims , but they are usually a lot more expensive.

At A Glance: Best eSim Providers in Croatia

  • Best unlimited data Maya Mobile
  • Perfect for 1GB Airalo
  • Cheapest Croatia eSim Nomad
  • Best For Unlimited data Holafly

Whether you need just a gigabyte to be able to send emails and check Google Maps, or you’re looking for unlimited data so you can work while you’re traveling, you’ll find several great options in this guide to the best eSim for Croatia!

ESIM Product Comparison

a1 tourist sim croatia

Maya Mobile

a1 tourist sim croatia

Maya Mobile has some great plans for a prepaid eSim in Croatia, especially if you want data for 30 days. In particular, their unlimited data eSim is the cheapest you can get!

Maya also prides itself on the allowance of tethering/hotspots (which Holafly does not) and they usually work with the best mobile providers in each country two. In the case of Croatia, they work with Tele2 and A1 and offer 4G connections.

Their packages are quite flexible with either specific GB or unlimited for use in 30 days, which is handy if you don’t want to rush to use that 3GB in a week, which many companies like Airalo make you do.

Here are their 30-day plans :

  • 1 GB for $5
  • 3 GB  for $9
  • 5GB  for $12
  • 10GB for $20
  • Unlimited data (30 days) for $49
  • Unlimited Data (Europe) / 30 Days for $49

As you can see above, there are lots of options. And, if you are traveling to more than one European country, you should definitely take the last (Europe) package!

  • Hotspot/tethering allowed
  • Great unlimited data options
  • Best local service providers
  • All packages 30 days
  • Not the cheapest per GB for small packages
  • No mobile app yet

Airalo is one of the most popular Croatia eSim providers because they offer reasonable plans that are perfect for tourists. If you don’t need unlimited data and you’re fine with having just a couple of GBs you can use to check Google Maps and send emails, an Airalo eSim is a good option for you.

Airalo Croatia

Their eSim plans for Croatia start at just $5 and are great if you don’t need lots of data. Here are the plans Airalo offers in Croatia:

  • 1 GB / 7 Days for $5
  • 2 GB / 30 Days for $10
  • 5 GB / 30 Days for $15

Airalo’s regional Europe eSim plans are also valid in Croatia and many other countries, so consider these plans if Croatia is only one of a few countries you’re planning to visit.

  • Reliable eSim Provider
  • Lots of GB size packages
  • Mobile app to manage eSims
  • No unlimited data

a1 tourist sim croatia

Nomad has multiple  eSim data plans for Croatia , which start at $6 for 1 GB (valid for a week), and go up to $35 for 20 GB (valid for a month). They’re approximately 20% more expensive than Airalo, so I wouldn’t recommend them for one of the cheaper plans with very little data.

BUT, they are great for 10 GB or above. For those plans, they have the cheapest prices per GB! Check out the plans below to see what I mean.

  • 1 GB / 7 Days for $6
  • 3 GB / 15 Days for $12
  • 5 GB / 15 Days for $14
  • 10 GB / 30 Days for $19
  • 20 GB / 30 Days for $33

Nomad Croatia

But they are good value for money if you want one of the bigger plans which the other providers don’t really offer. It’s also worth noting that Nomad has regional data plans for Europe that include Croatia. They include only 4G LTE internet access and no phone number, but that’s standard for all international eSims.

The regional plans are a good option if you’re going to be visiting other countries in addition to Croatia.

  • Mostly 30 days access
  • 20 GB plans available
  • Mobile app to manage things
  • No 5G access yet
  • More expensive

a1 tourist sim croatia

Holafly  is another very popular international eSim provider known for unlimited data plans. All Holafly eSim data plans offer unlimited data, and the price depends on how long the plan is active. The eSims start at $19 for 5 days and go up to $99 for 90 days.

Holafly Croatia

While Holafly eSims are extremely convenient, it’s important to note that they do not offer data sharing, meaning you can’t set up a hotspot and connect other devices to the WiFi network. If that is something you need, choose a package from Maya Mobile , they allow it!

  • No tethering/hotspot

Orange Holiday Zen eSim

a1 tourist sim croatia

The  Orange Holiday Zen eSim  is an excellent option for travelers who have plans to explore other European countries, in addition to Croatia. This is an all-inclusive eSim that provides you with a (French) phone number, 8 GB of mobile data, and free minutes/texts to other numbers in Europe and worldwide.

Orange Holiday Zen eSim

This is the cheaper version of the Orange Holiday Europe prepaid eSim and it retails for some 20 Euros. The eSim is valid for two weeks, and you can easily extend that period by purchasing additional credits.

However, if you want to keep using the eSim for more than a month, you will need to register the eSim on their website, as per French laws. It’s important to note that you can use both the mobile data and the phone number in 30+ countries in Europe without data roaming.

  • Comes with a phone number
  • Great for Europe-wide travel
  • Not the cheapest option

Orange Holiday Europe eSim

Orange Holiday Europe  eSim is another all-inclusive eSim for 30+ European countries. This one retails for 40 Euros, and it includes 20 GB of (4G LTE) mobile data, lots of free minutes/texts to numbers in Europe and the rest of the world, and a French phone number that allows you to make calls and send texts without paying for roaming charges.

Orange Holiday Europe eSim

This eSim is also valid for 14 days, and you have the option of extending the validity by purchasing additional data. Registration of the eSim is necessary for customers who want to use it for more than a month.

a1 tourist sim croatia

Ubigi is a popular international eSim provider that usually has great offers for countries in Europe. They don’t have an individual-country plan for Croatia, but the country is included in 15 of their regional data plans, which range from $2 to $88. So, if you need an eSim that is valid in multiple European countries (and wider), definitely consider Ubigi as your provider.

Ubigi Croatia

The data plan that I think is the best value for the money is the monthly 5 GB plan for 27 countries of the EU, the UK, and Switzerland. It’s $15, and the eSim stays valid for as long as you keep renewing the plan. They also have a 20 GB recurring monthly plan valid in the same countries, and that one is just $29. If you need the extra data, it’s absolutely worth it!

  • Good for lots of countries
  • Good for longer stays
  • Not the cheapest

Benefits of Getting an eSim in Croatia

The main benefit of getting an eSim while you’re traveling in Croatia is that you will always have internet access no matter what. You can simply land or arrive in the country and have data. No need to run to a store and go through all the hassle of getting a sim card.

While the capital city of Zagreb has decent free WiFi coverage for tourists, that’s not the case with most other cities and you will need an eSim if you want to have Internet access at your fingertips throughout your trip.

If you have plans to explore some of the country’s many stunning beaches, especially on the islands, you’ll definitely need an eSim for Internet access since most of the coastal towns don’t have free WiFi coverage.

I can’t live without eSims anymore. I have been to over 8 different countries lately and I only ever use eSims. I organise them before I arrive or just as I arrive. And BANG, within minutes I am online and ready to have an awesome vacation or work trip.

Local Mobile Operators Offering eSims in Croatia

A1 and T-Mobile are local operators that offer eSim cards in Croatia, but only for local customers . In other words, their prepaid tourist packages are available only with the purchase of physical sim cards.

It’s worth noting that Telemach also operates in Croatia, and it’s an even better option if purchasing a physical sim card tourist package is an option. I’ve had a poor experience with A1 because of their poor network coverage more than once, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend them.

Also, Telemach offers a tourist sim card package that’s valid for 10 days, for the same price (approximately 10 Euros) as both A1 and T-mobile packages, which are valid for only a week. All providers offer packages with unlimited mobile data during the duration of the data plan, plus you have the option of purchasing more data or additional days when the initial data runs out.

One advantage of purchasing a physical sim card from a local network operator is that you will have no issues creating a hotspot to share your WiFi. And since they all offer unlimited data plans, you can work, watch movies, listen to music, and do pretty much whatever you want on the Internet.

You can also top up the sim card with cash, and use the money to make calls and send texts. Unlike with eSims, physical sim cards provide you with a local phone number that can come in handy sometimes.

Devices Compatible with eSim in Croatia

eSim Phones

Devices that are compatible with eSim cards in Croatia are all devices that have eSim card functionality. These are usually phones that have been released in the past 4-5 years, so Android and iOS flagships released from 2018 onwards.

It’s worth noting that eSims are still a fairly new technology, and they’re not included in every single smartphone out there. While all newer Apple phones have it, if you’re using an Android as a daily driver you will need to check whether it supports eSims. The easiest way to do this is to dial *#06#. If you can see an EID (eSim Identification) number, it means that your phone supports an eSim.

Data Needed When Traveling to Croatia

The amount of data you need when traveling in Croatia really depends on what you want to use the data for. If you just want Internet access to be able to talk to friends, access social media, and check Google Maps, you should be fine with plans that have a limited amount of data.

It really depends on your personal use, but I would guess that you don’t need more than 2 GB per week if you’re not going to stream videos or music.

On the other hand, if you want to be able to stream videos, and music, and even work on your laptop, your best bet is an unlimited data plan. Some Croatia eSim cards include unlimited data for a select period of time, and this is generally the best option for travelers who want to stay connected throughout their trip and not worry about how much mobile data they’ve spent on any given day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is esim available in croatia.

Yes, eSim is available in Croatia, but you’ll have better luck if you purchase it from one of the international eSim providers than if you try to find a local provider. While many local mobile operators offer eSim cards for local users, they don’t really offer (prepaid) eSim plans for tourists.

How can I buy an eSim in Croatia?

Since the local operators don’t offer eSims for tourists, you’ll need to buy an eSim online if you’re purchasing it after you’ve arrived in Croatia. Just visit the website of any one of the international eSim providers featured in this guide, and select the plan that seems like the best option for your needs.

If you are also okay with physical sim cards, you can buy those at most kiosks and network operator shops throughout the country.

How do I activate my eSim in Croatia?

Activating an eSim is very easy and you just need to follow the instructions that you received with the purchase of the Croatia eSim data plan. This usually entails either scanning a QR code (if you’ve provided one with the eSim card) or manually adding the eSim through your phone’s settings. The first time you turn on mobile data and connect to the Internet, your eSim is activated.
