ASDA Money offers a range of affordable financial services, including travel insurance. In this guide, we look at what ASDA travel insurance includes and the pros and cons of cover.

ASDA Money offers three types of cover:

  • Single trip. You’ll be covered for one trip overseas.
  • Annual multi-trip . A year’s worth of cover for unlimited trips.
  • Family travel . You can cover up to three children for free on this policy.

There are three levels of cover offered by ASDA Money:

  • Value. You’ll be protected for up to £20,000,000 for medical expenses, £1,000 worth for personal belongings and £1,000 for holiday cancellations.
  • Premium. You’ll be protected for up to £25,000,000 for medical expenses, £1,300 worth for personal belongings and £2,000 for holiday cancellations.
  • Superior. You’ll be offered unlimited protection for medical expenses, £2,000 worth for personal belongings and £5,000 for holiday cancellations.

The maximum length of your trips on an annual multi-trip. Cover policy will depend on your choice of cover – for value it’s 35 days, for Premium it’s 45 days and for Superior it’s 90 days.

These are just the cover limits most likely to be important to you. There are many more differences in cover limits between the three levels.

To make a claim, you’ll need to download a claim form from the ASDA Money website, fill it in and send it to [email protected] .

For general queries, you can call 0800 138 2373 or email [email protected].

ASDA Money has received over 50 reviews on Trustpilot. At the time of writing, its average rating was 1.5 out of 5.

  • Plenty of policies to choose from
  • High levels of cover
  • Kids are insured free with the family travel policy
  • There is currently no phone number for making claims
  • There is no option to manage your account online

ASDA Money offers good levels of cover with its travel insurance , although the customer service appears to be lacking compared to its competitors.

Nine Months Later Still Waiting

Made a Claim to Asda Travel Insurance due to Covid.Followed there instructions and sent all relevant paperwork to them by Registered Post. They had just closed down due to Covid. They had No Arrangements in place to pick Claims up from offices so four weeks later finding this out I sent Claim by email. Seven weeks after original paperwork sent they opened claim. SEVEN Months later, after being told twice offer of settlement would be sent and third time it was being Prioritized, we are still waiting!. Shameful Company. Please Avoid.

pending transactions

if 1 star has to be the lowest option then its what i will give. if im being honest this is the worst time ive ever tried to get some travel money. two transactions approved from my bank of 808.65 declined by travelex/asda which have now left my bank into a pending transaction. the bank have given me the codes to give to travelex to cancel both for me to no avail. called all day yesterday absolutely useless customer services the chat bot isnt worth the log its written on, multiple phone calls with different staff, no replies to emails what a joke im over £1600 down 1 day before going on holiday. due to this its cost me 2200 pounds to get 900 euros sort it out asda-travelex

Long story short

Long story short, avoid and use any other travel money bureau. Got no appology, compensation for their mistake (got mixed currency), they cost me money for traveling back and forth to bureau, time and nerves. I will NEVER EVER USE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN. I would rather pay less , but get what I need elsewhere.

Shocking for ASDA to be so awful...

Due to bad weather we missed our flights home. The claim is dealt with by a company called Travel Claim Services Ltd. They are most unprofessional. Mountains of paperwork and hoops to jump through, "lost" documents needing to be resent (without them notifying you these are not received), weeks spent waiting for the claim to pay back the credit card bill. Claim paid out 3 months after incident, however not for full amount and they have calculated flight costs wrong and underpaid (sure it'll take weeks/months to get remaining balance back!). Bizarre that a company of Asda's reputation would employ such a company to represent them.

Asda Travel have auto-renewed my policy for the last 2 years without my noticing it on my credit card bill. I have had no email or mail notifying me of the renewal despite their policy stating clearly that they will notify before renewing. Fortunately I have now noticed and cancelled. The first and second renewals were over £200 when the original payment was £90 - so they are clearly doubling it hoping you don't notice for 14 days. Do not use.

DO NOT TAKE OUT TRAVEL INSURANCE WITH…

DO NOT TAKE OUT TRAVEL INSURANCE WITH ASDA!!! They are happy to take your money and offer 'Superior" cover but after missing a connecting flight they refused to pay out as they only cover the outbound and inbound flights only. What kind of insurer is this??? If you are travelling abroad, then the entire trip should be covered not just the beginning and end. Absolute thieves!!!!

DO NOT BUY!!

DO NOT BUY!! WASTE OF TIME! APP DOEST WORK, WEBSITE TEMPREMENTAL!! Staff unhelpful! you can not top the card up on the app as the advisor suggests , website only occasionally works and usually takes at least 3-5 attempts before working Have been stuck abroad without any money as I couldn't top my card up due to a failure in there system rejecting my second top up of the day. You are only able to top the card up maximum of 2 times in 24hr period. Was waiting in the streets for over 30 on holiday waiting for assistance to only be denied!

Literally awful

Literally awful. I missed a flight to see family in Australia due to coming down with a 24 hour bug (the kind that has your face in a toiler the entire time). They rejected my claim because "I didn't seek medical advice before cancelling my flight". So basically, unless you're an utter moron you should avoid this "company" like the absolute plague

I have an ongoing claim with Asda Travel Insurance

I have an ongoing travel claim which has been running for nearly four months with no one having looked at it yet. For others in a similar position you may want to submit a formal complaint. The administrators are Travel Claims Services and you can do this with them. If everyone does this each complaint costs them hundreds of pounds to review and they may become more likely to pay your claim in a timely manner and stop all these delaying tactics.

Money has mysteriously gone missing from my ASDA money Currency Card. I am currently abroad, cannot obtain a complete statement from the internet and I cannot top the card up. ASDA customer services denies this card has anything to do with ASDA & refuses to do anything whatsoever to help. Instead it blames Travel Ex and the problems with the recent hack attack. TravelEx have also not responded to any requests for help. THANKS A LOT ASDA I wont be using you to buy anything again.

Travel insurance from ASDA

Would like to give less than 0 stars. Trying to claim for cancellation of ski trip March 2020 (Covid). Very poor communication, awful response times, numerous errors in record keeping resulting in ‘ incorrect’ decision to decline settlement of claim after 9 months. Still awaiting appeal for review and formal complaint high they say will be delayed by up to 12weeks. Looks like they are deliberately trying to place obstacles in the way to discourage claims.

Don't buy if you think you might actually have to claim

My 80 year old mother had to cancel a trip because her daughter was diagnosed with cancer. She was insured with Asda Travel who, on being notified, passed the claim in to Travel Claims Services. They said how sorry they were and proceeded to sent her reams of paperwork to complete. Two months on, my mother is in some kind of vortex whereby Travel Claims Services say my mother hasn't sent quite the right bit of paper. She sends another document only to be told that another document is required. We can only assume that this is just some kind of elaborate delaying process whereby the claimant gets so frustrated or confused that they just give up. My advice....steer well clear and use a more reputable firm.

Almost impossible to contact them by phone

I had to cancel a family due to a serious illness that required immediate surgery. I have failed to speak to anyone on the phone as kept on hold for more than an hour on every occasion. Bought superior cover but now discovered that they aren't refunding atol and apd tax. They told me to go back to travel company to try and get it back. Insurance much like a hospital nightgown, you think you're covered but you're not. I would never ever use them again and would never recommend them.

I had previously taken out annual insurance. I didn't realise it was automatically renewed by Asda, which I don't agree with by the way especially when they just take the money from your credit card without permission. Anyway I have tried to cancel this by e-mail and get a refund. They keep saying theyneed more information but I think they are just stalling. So I am still waiting but NEVER again!!! Avoid Asda insurance at all costs!!!

AVOID this insurance if you bring a camera, iPad iPhone or similar and want to protect it in case of loss or damage. They only cover each item to a maximum of £250 and your phone probably cost £500 and your iPad £400 so if anything is stolen or lost you have hardly any cover. I didn't realise this until it was too late.

Avoid this scam

Avoid this scam! I had a cancelled flight and contacted Asda for an extra hotel night compensation. I was informed that only the first and last flight of a trip is covered. As this was a connecting flight it wasn’t covered so I could except no compensation whatsoever! This insurance is a joke and a scam, had I read all of the reviews on here before I obviously wouldn’t have purchased it. Save your money as these travel insurances aren’t worth the paper they’re written on.

Absolutely disgusting I bought the more expensive holiday ins due to go to Florida in March virgin cancelled it and it’s now November. First offer was £27 which made no sense whatsoever I appealed and now they have refused to give me anything. My claim is simple!!! I have logged another complaint and I will take it to the ombudsman DO NOT USE

Avoid at All costs. They use every bit of small print to ensure you do not claim. Due to travel at Xmas. Fell ill with stomach bug, unable to travel, holiday company cancelled my flight and hotel booking. Doctors closed over Christmas. Refused to pay out saying I should have sought immediate medical assistance. Even though I was unable to get an appointment. Did subsequently get a doctors note. Refused it. BE AWARE THEY WILL NOT PAY OUT. AN ASDA INSURANCE RIPOFF

Missed a call from “Travelex Head Office” an hour before I was due to collect currency asking me to ring them - had to look up their number on the internet as the caller didn’t leave it! Currency not available (Friday) and wouldn’t be in until Tuesday at 3pm……our flight leaves on Tuesday at 10am. Order had been placed 10 days earlier. Asked for a refund - that will take 2 to 10 working days - not only do I not have currency but I now don’t have the money (£700) to try and buy it elsewhere. I always normally use Tesco and this was the first and last time I will use Asda.

Similar to lots of other travellers had paid for annual insurance with Asda, but when I had to claim in March 2020 for cancellation due to Covid was eventually declined despite policy saying clearly.that I was covered. Asda travel money is disgusting

Asda travel money is disgusting ! They take pretty much £200 worth of your money for exchange . I also had a problem where the lady at the till didn't type in my email right at the Shoeburyness store , so I couldn't activate my card . Further to this I rang customer service spoke to one women who couldn't speak a word of English and she said she had changed email and id be able to log on . When I ended phone I couldn't log on . Rang again spoke to another women who couldn't speak English and she said the other lady had changed it to a complete different email . Absolute messers

bad exchange rates and IT system not working

Tried to sell foreign currency (buyback) to Asda travel money. First, I was told to visit after 10am as their system starts then. Then, I was told their system is down and asked to leave my mobile number and they would call me back when it's working. They never call me. Their rates was bad too. Finally, I sold my foreign notes to the Post office, which has a far better exchange rate and staff are more friendly and helpful.

money taken quickly, no service...

Asda Travel, part of Asda group is in fact a separate travel agent called www.ppassociates.co.uk and using hotels from www.hotelbeds.com, the transaction process is all confusing, as you won't know who takes the money. When it comes to the service, I'd give is 0 stars if I could, as with so many companies involved, getting help is taking months, so I'd advise anyone to stay away, unless you want to pay for a booking you won't use and drag refunds for months...

Shamefully bad customer service

Shamefully bad customer service! I purchased the platinum level cover on an annual policy, thinking that a massive company like ASDA would offer a reasonably good policy. WRONG! My claim was fairly simple and I followed all the correct procedures and submitted all the documents they asked for. Nearly 2 months later my claim has still not been settled and my emails and calls are not responded to. I will be finding out who the ombudsman is and reporting this to them. Absolutely DISGUSTING service - obviously WILL NEVER USE AGAIN!

Took out Asda travel stranded in SPAIN ,

Took out Asda travel , my flight was cancelled by the airline, less than 24 hours home from Alicante, , myself and 2 friends , thought no problem , we have insurance, WRONG, will only pay you the extra money to get home, which was over £100 each, will only compensate, IF, the flight had been cancelled leaving the UK, What good is that, I would just have gone home, not stranded in SPAIN, would not Buy there insurance again, for anything. You ask all the questions befor e purchase , which I did on the phone, only to be told YES you are covered WRONG,

We had single trip travel insurance for our trip to New York in May 2020,because of covid 19 I rearrange my trip for a future date. I phoned 4 times to ask for a refund on my insurance, the guy I spoke to said "the refund was approved apart from 10 percent" I accepted and he stated that I would receive an email and the money refunded on the card I used, I never did receive a refund and when I phoned again(. Which was after the date of the that we should of travelled) another guy said it was to late. A total con. Never use Asda travel insurance.

I advise against buying travel insurance. My flight was delayed by 6h. After making a complaint, it turned out that the insurance covers delays of more than 12 hours. The entire complaint procedure is complicated and requires many documents. Never again.

Dreadful, no consideration

Not great, was able to collect after 3pm today from the Norwich Store, after paying on line 2 days previously. Travelled to store to find Kiosk closed, no information available. Advised by store member that a few people had been in but unable to help and no contact details on kiosk, it is closed more than it is open. Came home and called, only to be advised would have to refund but this wold be 3- working days, bearing in mind they had my money for 2 days already, not happy. Then said would be 1 working day but obviously nothing yet so I have to find the money to purchase currency for holiday on Sunday!! AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awful experience and this is the second…

Awful experience and this is the second time but with a different member of staff. I used them because ASDA are endorsing them by allowing g them to wear asda lanyards and using the asda name as part of their name. - asda money exchange bureau. When mistakes are made and these are too often to be accidental, asda refuses to accept responsibility and says they are a different company. The cashiers themselves give you incorrect rates after saying they’ll match the better rates in nearby money shops yet give their own and only after handing over the receipt and you notice the worst rate, they then say that mistakes can’t be rectified. Poor old people would believe they have the better rate as in both occasions the cashiers repeatedly said they’d given the better rate but hadn’t. The cashiers become rude when you ask them to rectify their rates.

Definitely a Travel Insurer to be careful of

Two issues in hindsight. In February 2020 bought insurance for a holiday bought in January 2020. All our holidays are none starters now so rang customer service. Told our insurance is no good for anything linked to Covid-19 and if we did go on holiday later this year and caught the virus and needed hospital care we would have to pay it all ourselves. We are over 70 years old so you can imagine the stress and financial burden this would cause. I used them last year and realised in February they had auto renewed our policy and I know I had not opted for this. I did get a refund on that Not a good insurer
