Home to some of Bali's most luxurious resorts, Seminyak offers a quieter alternative to its lively neighbours, Legian and Kuta. Many resorts overlook picturesque Seminyak Beach, offering beachfront access, spectacular sunsets, and proximity to the shopping boutiques and high-end restaurants within the immediate vicinity. Seminyak is also within walking distance of Kuta, making it a convenient location for exploring a range of Bali attractions.

Canggu is widely regarded as one of the best areas to stay in Bali due to its emerging popularity as a beachside destination and truly laidback feel. Featuring new beachside resorts, the region is also home to diverse beaches that have sands ranging from black in some areas through to the creamy shorelines so familiar in the island's south.

Legian Beach

Known for its vibrant nightlife, Legian is the second-most popular place to stay within the Bali region. Resorts and accommodation line the beachfront, providing ready access to water sports, shopping, restaurants, and more. If it's the buzz of activity you seek, with excitement at any hour of the day, then Legian is perhaps the destination best suited to meeting your needs.

If you're looking for accommodation positioned in the thick of Bali's action, you can't go past Kuta for its accessibility to shopping, entertainment, and endless dining options. Kuta is a thriving hub of activity day and night. However, amid all the action, there's still quiet refuge to be enjoyed at one of the many beachfront resorts adjacent to the main street.

Of all the places to stay in Bali, Nusa Dua is arguably the most exclusive precinct available. The region was specifically designed as an “all-inclusive” tourism enclave, and it features luxurious and world-renowned resorts with immediate beachfront access. There's also a golf course and a shopping centre. Kuta and Denpasar International Airport are both a quick taxi ride away, making this a convenient location of world-class standard.

For a taste of the good life, it’s hard to go past Nusa Dua for pristine beaches and world-class resorts, and let's not forget about the Instagram-worthy waterfalls of Munduk and the hidden gems of the Gili Islands. Fresh warning for Aussie travellers

A woman was deported from Bali for installing skimming devices on ATMs across popular resorts, with Aussie tourists warned to stay cautious when using cash machines.

The 35-year-old Ukranian woman, identified by her initials BK, was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison and fined IDR 100,000,000 – about $10,000 – by the Denpasar District Court in 2022.

A woman was deported from Bali last week for installing skimming devices on ATMs.

She was deported from the island last week to Poland over the skimming case, according to The Bali Sun.

A skimmer is a device installed on card readers that collects card numbers which are then replicated into counterfeit cards.

A tourist showed a skimming device on an ATM in Rome in a TikTok. Picture: TikTok/sheerinproblems

“The BK case is a clear example of the Bali Ministry of Law and Human Rights’ commitment to maintaining state sovereignty and protecting the public from law violations,” Pramella Y. Pasaribu, head of the Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights told the publication.

“We will continue to improve co-ordination with related agencies and strengthen supervision of the presence of foreigners in the Bali region.”

It comes as the latest deportation figures reveal 318 foreigners were denied entry into Bali with 132 not having an Indonesian visa.

Following the ATM skimming device scam, Aussies and tourists alike have been advised to use machines that are within banks or trusted spaces and where possible, avoid using ATMs that are placed on the street.

Tourists warned about Bali money scam

Travellers should look out for telltale signs such as of tampering or additional readers being stuck on top.

“Look for signs of tampering or features that don’t fit with how the rest of the ATM looks, such as if the keypad is overly raised or looks too shiny and new,” Finder advises.

“Also look out for tiny cameras that could be planted anywhere around the machine (which may be used to capture your PIN as you enter it).

“If you notice any of these suspicious signs at the ATM, do not use it.”

Last year, a tourist revealed how a fraudster had placed a handwritten “broken” sign over the card slot of an Commonwealth Bank machine in an attempt to lure people to use a nearby ATM that was reportedly fitted with a card-skimming device.

Another tourist showed a ‘broken’ sign on a Commonwealth Bank ATM in Bali to divert people to use a nearby ATM allegedly fitted with a skimming device. Picture: Facebook

“Three or four people came through and went to go use the next ATM over, but I told them the ATM was fine, so they could use the Commbank one,” the traveller wrote in a Facebook post.

“The [man] kept on watching me like he was angry; as soon as I walked away, I watched him put another sign on it.”

Aussies have also been warned about other scams targeting tourists including a “coin scam” .

A woman took to a travel group for Australians visiting Bali on Facebook explaining how a known family, not local to the island, would go around asking Aussies if they can look at their money in an attempt to steal their wallets.

Angus Kidman, travel expert at Finder, said no matter where you’re travelling, being cautious with your wallet and cash was essential.

“Pickpocketing and theft are always a risk in any popular tourist area,” he told news.com.au.

“If someone asks to see your Australian money, an easy response is ‘not carrying any mate – don’t need Aussie currency here.’

“Don’t ruin your trip with paranoia – just exercise sensible basic precautions.”

According to Cover-More, other common travel scams in Bali include taxi drivers and monkey thieves at popular temples.

“Don’t negotiate fares with unofficial taxi drivers as they may use tactics like a broken metre, take a longer route, or charge far above the going rate. Take a reputable, official taxi instead,” Cover-More advises.

Currency exchange scams are also common with Cover-More advising to be aware of “official” looking money exchanges that will advertise a great rate, but offer the wrong change, miscount your money or handover invalid banknotes.

Warning about riding in Bali at night

Aussies who are currently holidaying in Bali or plan to visit the holiday hotspot have been given a warning for the next few days.

Visitors to a popular holiday spot are being warned to stay alert for dingoes after a young girl was attacked while her parents turned away for “two seconds”.

A new travel alert has been issued for Aussies visiting this country, warning protests and rallies are “likely to occur” as one massive event takes place.

Bali holidaymakers warned to expect delays during idul fitri as smartraveller releases indonesia travel warning.

Hayley Taylor

Travellers have been warned to expect delays in Indonesia and the greater Jakarta area, including Bali, as local celebrations are set to impact airports , roads and public transport .

As locals return to their villages to mark Idul Fitri — a major Muslim holiday celebrating the end of Ramadan with their families, in a mass exodus known as “mudik” — Australian travellers have been warned risks are set to rise.

“Exercise a high degree of caution in Indonesia overall due to security risks,” an alert from Smartraveller said.

“Higher levels apply in some areas.”

This national holiday, also called Eid al-Fitr in Arabic, will this year fall on April 10 and April 11, but Smartraveller advised holidaymakers in the country to exercise caution until April 22.

There are 10 days of government-sanctioned time off for locals, including weekend holidays, with two national holidays and four days of collective leave.

“This may impact traffic and public transport, including airports, seaports, highways, toll roads, train and bus stations,” Smartraveller said.

“Airports are expected to be busy.

“Plan your travel carefully and prepare for significant delays.”

Lines of Indonesian travellers heading home to break the Ramadan fasting period with feasting and festival celebrations have already begun gathering at wharves, bus stations and train stations.

The Transportation Ministry has predicted that this year more than 193 million travellers will crisscross the 17,000 islands which make up the Indonesian archipelago, according to the Jakarta Post .

That’s about three quarters of the nation’s population, which would make the 2024 “mudik” the largest observed by the nation.

Before the COVID pandemic, about 30 million local travellers regularly took part in the annual exodus tradition, but that swelled to 85 million travellers when COVID restrictions first eased in 2022, with 14 million travellers departing from Jakarta’s greater metropolitan area alone.

While Bali is the only island in Indonesia that is mainly Hindu, the rest of the country is predominantly Muslim, and Smartraveller has said stricter rules can apply for travellers in Muslim countries during Ramadan celebrations.

Foreign travellers looking for a “rewarding cultural experience” will certainly find it in Indonesia throughout Idul Fitri, but coming with regular expectations is not advised, according to Smartraveller .

“Don’t assume everything you want to do will be available,” it said.

“Be prepared for changes in everyday life.”

Best Personalized Travel Packages to Top Destinations on Klook

Traveling is no less than an art form, and today, the world is your oyster when it comes to travel. So, finding the right platform for making your experience all the better is critical. In fact, it might very well end up shaping the entire trajectory of one’s journey. This is where Klook (short for “Keep Looking”) stands out from the rest. This reputed Southeast Asian travel brand is not like other traditional tour agencies that offer fixed travel packages. Rather, they let you decide just how you want to spend your vacation. In fact, Klook packages have a wide selection of things to do for every destination, along with offering support for them. So, if you have the choice of an amazing day tour, you’ll even find ticket choices, car rental options, and even hotels. Plus, Klook’s destinations aren’t just local Asian ones but around the world.

Clearly, Klook’s offerings have made planning adventures, whether weekend getaways or international ones, much easier. The best bit is that you can customize your itinerary by choosing experiences that you love and prefer, and at a not-so-exorbitant, friendlier price tag, too. Here’s a lowdown of the best personalized travel options to the top destinations on Klook.

One of Asia’s top destinations on Klook is the former fishing village and the tiny island of Singapore. The modern “Garden City” has so much to explore, and Klook makes sure that you don’t have to miss out on anything or burn a hole in your pocket. Plus, booking through Klook is an easy way to not only save money, but also earn credits against future bookings.

For instance, one of the most popular Singapore Klook packages and tours is the Singapore River Cruise, a 40-minute amazing joyride down the scenic river abroad an iconic bumboat. What’s more, Klook even offers a special add-on of a specially curated seafood menu for 4 travelers at Clarke Quay! If you want to visit the Singapore National Museum, the process is a breeze. All you need to do is show the QR code on the confirmed Klook booking at the ticket counter and exchange it for a ticket!

If that wasn’t enough, Klook also offers unique tours like ziplining adventures at Mega Adventure Park, complete with options for different activities, a Klook Singapore duck tour, hop-on and hop-off tours, pottery workshops, and even breakfasting at Singapore Zoo, one of the world’s most fascinating zoos .

Singapore - by Klook

Klook’s recommended trip duration for Dubai is three days. But judging by the sheer number of experiences they offer, we’re sure even three weeks will be less to explore this shimmering desert metropolis! Tucked in the northern United Arab Emirates, Dubai is flamboyant, extravagant, and simply magnificent. It’s home to not just world-class shopping, dining, and entertainment but also a slew of architectural wonders, including the Burj Khalifa, one of the world’s tallest skyscrapers even today. It’s also home to some of the world’s most luxurious and expensive hotels, eye-popping artificial islands, and mesmerizing fountains .

So, it’s not surprising that Klook’s Dubai offerings range from observation decks, museums, and other attractions to swanky hotels and even private car charters. For instance, the ticket for the Burj Khalifa At the Top Observation Deck has a slew of standard and combo deals, which include prime/non-prime hours, skip-the-line options, and even choices for including an edge walk, a three-course menu at the Burj Club, and whatnot!

There’s also the Dubai Marina Dhow Cruise, which has options for a cruise and two buffet dinners, and Desert Safari Tours, which has options for morning, evening, or overnight tours, and even the choice of adding quad bike rides to your package.

Japan’s bustling capital, Tokyo, is a mind-boggling juxtaposition of impressive, neon-lit skyscrapers to 1000-year-old historic temples. The city sits on the island of Honshu overlooking Tokyo Bay and effusively yokes the past and the future.

With Japan being home to one of the world’s most impressive railway systems and amongst the world’s fastest trains , it’s no surprise that it has a separate section dedicated to rail passes when it comes to Klook Tokyo packages! But that’s not all. For instance, the Tokyo Highlights Private Day Tour will take you to the city’s largest and oldest ancient Buddhist temple, Sensō-ji, followed by a visit to Japan’s tallest tower, Tokyo SkyTree. Of course, there’s also the magic of Tokyo Disneyland, which is home to the only Tokyo DisneySea in the world! And Klook offers easy ticket booking for both attractions in one travel option.

If all that wasn’t enough, the Mount Fuji instagrammable spots day tour will take you to soak in the best views of the venerated mountain. The best bit? The tour package includes options for lunch (set Japanese or steak Chinese lunches) and even guides (English/Chinese/Korean-speaking guides). So, it’s easy to see why Klook is perfect for exploring Tokyo’s blend of tradition and modernism.

The City of Love and Lights needs no introduction, does it? Welcome to Paris, the capital of France and what is universally regarded as the most romantic city in the world. We’ve honestly lost count of the number of movies the Eiffel Tower has appeared in, as has the Louvre Museum and its crown jewel, the Mona Lisa. Landmarks aside, the city sits on the peaceful Seine, making sightseeing via water a very popular Klook Paris activity. The Seine River Cruise, for instance, is a different take, as it had the option of experiencing Paris’s culinary delights on the boat restaurant. Not only does Klook have both lunch and dinner options, but they even have an option for a romantic cruise!

Klook has multiple options for the Palace of Versailles, one of the top things to do in Paris . While one offers a guided, skip-the-line tour with multiple language options, the other offers options for all-access, join-in, and private tours. However, one of the best package options we found for Paris was the combo ones offered, like the Louvre and Seine River sightseeing cruise. Of course, the Louvre ticket also had several options, with multi-guides, Mona Lisa access, and one even with a bus ticket for those who want transport too.

Billed as the “Pearl of the Andaman,” Phuket is one of the best beach destinations in the world and has some of Thailand’s best beaches . It’s the perfect place to ride some waves, get a tan, and indulge in a whole lot of water activities like jet skiing, parasailing, and fishing. What’s great is that Phuket’s Klook packages and tours combine sightseeing and adventures in one, like the day trip to Bamboo & Khai islands and Phi Phi, which includes snorkeling in Phi Phi. The day tour to Phang Nga Bay and James Bond Island, on the other hand, not only includes sea canoeing and cave kayaking but also a visit to the reclining Buddha at the Suwankuha temple as well as checking out a unique floating fishing community and village.

Back on land, Klook offers some excellent cultural and sightseeing tours, like the Phuket Discovery tour. This half-day excursion takes you not just to Wat Chalong Temple and Big Buddha but also to Old Town with Sino-Portuguese architecture and the viewpoint at Khao Rang Hill. And, of course, there are even packages for visiting the amazing Patong Beach and its Bangla Road nightlife for shopping.

Beach escapes in Asia don’t get any better than at Bali, a.k.a. the Island of the Gods. There are so many reasons why you should visit Bali , and it’s not just for the world’s most fabulous beaches – it also has many cultural hotspots.

One of the most popular Klook Bali tours is the Bali full-day customized tour, which allows you to choose between East, Central, West, North, and South Bali tours. It also has options for a waterfalls-only tour, a cultural tour of Ubud, and even a volcano tour. When it comes to adventure, there is no dearth of choices that travelers have in Bali, like the Combo Ayung River Rafting and ATV Tour, which also includes a delicious Indonesian buffet lunch. Plus, you also get to choose whether you want to ride the ATV solo or tandem and even whether you want a pickup from the hotel.

Do check out the Rice Field Trekking and Waterfalls Day Tour of North Bali, which is a cool way for your entire family or friends to enjoy. Thanks to the many ferry ticket and private boat rental options that Klook offers, you can even enjoy island hopping or spend an entire day on the waters of the Bali Sea.

That said, water babies will have their pick of choices when it comes to aqua adventures on the island. Beginner scuba divers should check out the USS Liberty Shipwreck Scuba Diving Tour, which allows you to choose how many people you want on the tour. Plus, those who are interested in surfing will love 27 Surf Bali’s Surfing Lesson at Kuta Beach, which has options for hotel transfers and even insurance. What more could you ask for?

What are Klook Credits?

The travel brand has a reward system in which travelers get credits every time they book Klook packages and leave a review. These credits can be redeemed against the price of future bookings.

How long does Klook take to confirm a booking?

If you booked 30 days or less before the departure date, you’ll get confirmations within 48 hours for counter pick-up or QR code. If you booked more than 30 days before the departure date, you’ll get confirmation 25 days before the departure date at the most, if not earlier.

Can I book an activity for someone else?

Yes, although some Klook vouchers are non-transferable, so please check before booking. Also, just ensure that you provide their correct details when finalizing the booking details.

Hotel review: The food at W Sydney is reason enough alone to keep coming back to this luxury Darling Harbour escape

By Bronte Gossling | 7 hours ago

When the world's biggest W Hotel finally opened its doors in Sydney last year, the question on everyone's lips was: Was it worth the wait?

After a three years of delays, guests could finally investigate the matter first-hand.

But after looking at the Marriot Bonvoy brand's website, the question then evolved to: Is it worth the price tag?

W Sydney

If you book a room with a view of Darling Harbour , this intrepid would argue in favour of a yes verdict.

Sandwiched between four hectic arterial motorways (and just down the road from the controversial new Rozelle interchange ), how W Sydney maintains serenity is a lesson in contradictions – or perhaps the value of octuple-glazing floor-to-ceiling windows.

Do not let the hustle and bustle of Sydney's notorious peak-hour traffic deter you from seeking an escape at the 588-room Ribbon building. From my one-bedroom suite (from $549) on the 15th floor, I could barely hear a whisper.

I've lived in the Emerald City my whole life, but this weekend made me see it from a fresh perspective. And the bird's-eye view of the glistening sea behind the flowing rooftop pool – which is only available to hotel guests – is just one part of that.

Do you remember The Jetsons ? The '60s sitcom only ran for three seasons, but constant re-runs on school sick days throughout my childhood drilled one thing into my brain: I'd know when I'd be living in the future because I'd have a house in the sky and a flying car at my disposal.

Look, we're not quite there yet, but dining at BTWN – the hotel's expressway-level restaurant – makes you feel like we might as well be.

BTWN at W Sydney

Indulging in fresh, contemporary Australian flavours – with dishes sourced from local suppliers, who grow and source their produce sustainably – to the backdrop of headlights and, on Saturdays, a free firework show, is an experience that feels like it belongs in the movies.

Also in the future is W Sydney's approach to how they run their whole hotel, and it's with sustainability in mind.

BTWN notably sources menu staples from hyper-local suppliers such as Mussett Holdings in New South Wales, a family-owned regenerative farm whose mushrooms are grown in a Southern Highlands location that is powered 100 per cent by wind and solar.

It's not just the restaurants that are sustainability-focused, with W Sydney's Ribbon rooftop collecting rainwater into 100,000-litre tanks, which is filtered and then stored in cooling towers, reducing the hotel's environmental footprint while cooling it.

W Sydney hotel review

This luxury escape more than earns its five-star rating, and its green thumb is only one part of it.

Thankfully, I can have a taste – literally – of its luxury whenever I want.

And the food offered at the hotel's restaurants and bars BTWN, Living Room and 29/30 – all of which are open to non-guests – are reason enough alone to keep coming back for more.

What's the deal with those huge packages of cocaine that keep washing up on Sydney's beaches?

The illicit packages are reported to have a street value of around $1 million

Winnie Stubbs

Sydney's known for its beaches, so it's no surprise that here at Time Out Sydney, we post a whole heap of stories about our shorelines. From globally-recognised stretches of sand to bioluminescent water to reports rating the best (and worst) behaved beach goers , we’ve covered it all. But this might be the first time we’ve written a story about class-A drugs washing up on Sydney’s sand. But there’s a first time for everything.

A reported 250kg of cocaine has washed up on beaches across NSW since December 2023, including five enormous bricks of the illicit substance that were found on the shoreline of Sydney’s Northern Beaches (at Freshwater and North Curl Curl) only this month.

Manly Beach, Manly

The first reported discovery of cocaine on NSW's shorelines was back in December 2023, when a large, barnacle-covered package was discovered on Magenta Beach, on the Central Coast, by a local beachgoer (yes, they did report it to the police).

That initial discovery prompted an investigation, which led to the discovery of a further three packages at Avoca Beach (also on the Central Coast), Blacksmiths (a town further north) and at Sydney’s very own Manly .

And while the enormous bricks are the ones that most capture the public attention (their street value is estimated at around $1 million), plenty of smaller packages are finding their way onto our beaches, too.  The team investigating the issue are also concerned that loose cocaine may be finding its way into our oceans.

So what’s the deal?  According to Macquarie University’s Dr Vincent Hurley, a lecturer in the Department of Security Studies and Criminology, these illicit finds are likely making their way onto our shores from large container ships. While some of the packages are concealed within the ships, Dr Hurley told the Guardian that some more covert (and environmentally risky) tactics are employed, including securing large cocaine parcels to the hulls of ships, without crews ever being made aware. While it’s possible (and alarmingly common) for containers to fall off ships, the covert, external cargo approach makes it far more likely for packages to rupture and find themselves stray in the ocean.

And while the recent NSW drug reform means that Sydneysiders no longer find themselves in court for possession of small drug quantities , drug use (and particularly trafficking) remains a big issue in this country. An Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission report released recently revealed  Australians spent $12.4 billion on cocaine, MDMA, heroin and  methylamphetamine  in the year up to August 2023. There's a particularly big appetite for cocaine here in Sydney – in fact, almost half of the 4.037 tonnes of cocaine taken by people in Australia was taken in NSW.  According to the ABC , the mark-up on cocaine in Australia is “significantly higher than anywhere else in the world” – explaining why traffickers are going to extreme lengths to get it onto Australian soil (and sand).
