Hon Mun island, Cam Ranh

Cam Ranh, Vietnam

Paradise in a bay, Cam Ranh is ready to steal crowns as it skyrockets towards becoming South Vietnam’s top resort destination. With 5-star resorts, fine dining, exceptional beaches, and a relaxing atmosphere – Cam Ranh has it all. The only thing that is noticeably missing is the crowds.

As a recently opened destination, tourism is still blossoming in Cam Ranh. Beaches and resorts are frequently uncrowded, so visitors can enjoy a luxury getaway in private. However, news spreads fast and tourism is likely to soon explode in Cam Ranh. For trailblazing travelers, there is no better time to explore Cam Rah because, in the coming years, uncrowded beaches will be a thing of the past.

Beautiful Bay in Khanh Hoa Province

Located in Khanh Hoa Province , the city of Cam Ranh is structured around a natural bay in South Vietnam’s Central Coast region. Cam Ranh is the second-largest city in the province, and it has worked diligently to revamp its image to become a luxury resort destination. Situated on a peninsula, Cam Ranh Bay is technically an inlet on the South China Sea.

Hon Mun island, Cam Ranh

The oceanfront location has helped Cam Ranh establish port trading, fishing, and tourism-based economies, all of which support the local people and their families.

From Ho Chi Minh City, Cam Ranh is 242.3 miles (390 kilometers) to the east. Driving between the two southern cities takes about 7 and ½ hours. In an effort to boost tourism, Cam Ranh City built a new international airport. Flights from HCMC are easy to book and the time spent in the air is less than 1 hour.

Trains are another affordable option for travelers and they can be a little faster than driving. Most train journeys to Cam Ranh from Saigon will take less than 7 hours.

Geographically, Cam Ranh sites on a narrow portion of Vietnam’s continental shelf. This allows deep water to come closer to shore, which in turn gives large ships easy access to the sheltered port. Recognized as Southeast Asia’s “finest deep-water shelter”, Cam Ranh’s geological features have attracted ships, both trading merchants and military, for many years.

Before the resorts, Cam Ranh City had been a significant base for many foreign militaries. French colonizers first used the bay for their navy as they spread throughout Indochina. By the early 1900s, the Russians began to use Cam Ranh Bay for their Imperial fleet.

Image of Cau Long Ho, Cam Ranh, Vietnam in 1967-68

The Japanese set their sights on the bay in the 1940s during World War II, however, they would ultimately be defeated by the Americans and the bay would be abandoned. The last military operations to use Cam Ranh as a base were from the United States. Starting with the Air Force, the US Army and Navy were eventually stationed in the bay during the Vietnam War.

The bay was a tactical fighter base for the American military. In 1972, after the end of the Vietnam War, all facilities in Cam Ranh Bay were given to the South Vietnam government to control. Today, Cam Ranh acts as an international military base where foreign warships can dock for repairs.

With militaries withdrawing, Cam Ranh City decided to makeover its image to become an international resort destination. Now, the deep-water bay is lined with manicured resorts, glimmering pools, and wide-open sand beaches. A stunning destination, travelers will feel their stress melt away as they enjoy their time in Cam Ranh.

  • Cam Ranh has an estimated population of 121,050 people
  • Cam Ranh’s airport ( Cam Ranh International ) is the 4 th busiest in Vietnam
  • Lobster farming is a lucrative business in Cam Ranh with some local families earning billions of dollars

Main Attractions

Aside from the gorgeous setting, Cam Ranh is a one-of-a-kind destination because of its eclectic mix of attractions and activities. The resort atmosphere of Cam Ranh focuses on rest and relaxation, while other venues allow visitors to chase their thrills. With plenty of attractions open both day and night, Cam Ranh ensures that guests are entertained.

On top of the humanmade activities, it is impossible to overlook the peninsula’s beaches. So, whether you’re lounging at a resort, seeking epic thrills, or socializing in a club, Cam Ranh has something to satisfy every traveler.

Resort Highlights

Ngoc Suong Resort in Cam Ranh Vietnam

Every resort is different, yet with so many 5-star options, it’ss safe to assume that every resort aims to provide luxury services to their guests. Grandiose swimming pools, 18-hole golf courses, and premium quality spas are frequently the most used attractions at resorts. For guests of the resort, many of these facilities are included with their stay.

The resort should be clear to communicate to their guests about any additional charges. Guests from off the resort may pay to access the resort’s features too by asking the front desk about a day pass or appointment. Resorts with top-rated spas include the Anam, Fusion Resort Cam Ranh , and the Radisson Blue Resort Cam Ranh.

For golfers, the KN Golf Links is an upscale club that was designed by world golfing legend, Greg Norman. The golf club boasts an 18-hole course with 3 miles (5 kilometers) of the property sitting on the oceanfront. Golfers will need to reserve their golf time prior to their arrival at the club. Reservations can be made online through the club’s website or by phone.`

Sand, Sun, and Surf

Cam Ranh’s extensive coast is lined with some of the best beaches in Southern Vietnam. Adding to the uniqueness of Cam Ranh, beaches in the bay are both manicured and wild. This means that visitors can relax on a resort’s private beach or head down the coast to find, often deserted, public beaches.

Guests staying at resorts should have access to the property’s private beach. Perks to visiting a resort’s beach include clean sand and permission to use additional amenities like lounges or umbrellas. Visitors in Cam Ranh who are staying at a different resort or those who want to explore more of the area’s private beaches can pay a resort for day access to their property.

Day rates differ between resorts, although most have reasonable prices. Public beaches, which have not been fenced off, are an option for visitors who do not want to pay. Northern Cam Ranh has a few public beaches that are clean and often uncrowded – if not entirely empty.

Another great spot to go beach hopping is on a new road, which branches off from the main road before the Vinh Hy-Binh Tien pass. Stretching for 10.5 miles (17 km) along the coast, many of the beaches are public and are walkable from the road. There should be a worn path to indicate where to go.

Adventure Parks in Cam Ranh

For bigger thrills, cam Ranh has a Rope Park. The park features 45 obstacles of varying difficulty and it is suspended 35 feet into the air. Officially a part of the Mövenpick Resort Cam Ranh, non-resort guests can pay for access to the Rope Park. Participants of the course are encouraged to be fit and healthy because of the height challenges presented in the obstacles.

At the Golden Peak Resort, there is an indoor and outdoor water park. Designed to be safe for all ages, the Golden Peak Resort Water Park is a hotspot for families with young kids. Highlights in the park include the Hawaii Aqua Playground, Boomerang Slide, 9D Cinema, and Food Center.

Tour the Peninsula

Much more than resorts and adventure parks, Cam Ranh is located in a spectacular area of South Vietnam. Visitors are encouraged to go beyond their accommodations and explore the area. Local guides are the most knowledgeable and they can take visitors on a boat, surfing, paragliding, snorkeling, or kayaking tour.

Bay View of Cam Ranh Vietnam

Tours that venture around and outside of Cam Ranh can also be arranged. In Cam Ranh, the Tu Van Pagoda has become a sightseeing hotspot. Constructed out of seashells and coral, the pagoda is quite the sight to behold. Visitors can explore the grounds of the pagoda, including its caves, and interact with the local monks.

Out in the bay, Binh Hung and Binh Ba Island are beautiful day trip destinations. Accessible by boat and only a short distance away from Cam Ranh, the islands are famous for their beauty. Most travelers will visit both islands in one day, though you could easily spend a full day on each. For beaches, Binh Ba is the better choice, but Binh Hung offers plenty too.

Seafood is abundant on both islands with same-day catches highlighted on the menu.

Further outside of Cam Ranh, visitors may choose to take day trips north to Nha Trang or south to Phan Rang-Tháp Chàm. Both locations are cities along the coast with their own bays. Nha Trang is an extremely popular resort area that frequently draws in large groups of tourists. Phan Rang-Tháp Chàm has become a major tourist destination because of its historical pagodas and Cham culture.

Accommodation

Resorts have become the powerhouses of Cam Ranh with their all-inclusive packages, luxury features, and beachfront locations. With dozens of options, there are only a handful of resorts that consistently rate amongst the top tiers. Be that as it may, not all travelers are attracted to the resort lifestyle. For those who want to avoid the resorts, Cam Ranh has plenty of hotels too.

The Floating Lounge Cam Ranh – Situated high in the sky, the Floating Lounge Cam Ranh is a top-rated restaurant and bar with incredible views of the bay and city. Serving Vietnamese dishes featuring fresh seafood, the restaurant has become the talk of the town.

Special Events

Perhaps some of the only times that Cam Ranh truly feels busy is during festivals. While most of the year the peninsula is a quiet haven, festivals are a time when the streets come to life in celebration. Cam Ranh is host to many festivals with local and national events.

Celebrate Têt Trung Thu – In Vietnam, Têt Trung Thu or the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival is held during the 8 th month of the lunar calendar, which typically is during mid-September. A celebration of the full harvest, the Tet Trung Thu is a time for friends and families to come together to share meals and partake in festivities. The ever-popular mooncakes are a staple for the festival.

Ocean Power – One event that happens every two years is the Sea Festival. Also called the Whale Festival, the celebration stretches along the coast starting in Nha Trang. Cam Ranh partakes in this festival with special markets, exhibitions, and tournaments. The festival is normally held during the month of June.

Since this is not an annual festival, it is considered to be a great honor for outside visitors to join in on the celebration.

Bai Dai Beach in Cam Ranh Vietnam

Spread out along the bay, perhaps the only downside to Cam Ranh is the distance between attractions. While tourists can easily walk to areas like the beach or in town, it is recommended to arrange your transportation if you plan on traveling between the resorts, town, and sightseeing hotspots.

Taxis are common in Cam Ranh, but most guests prefer to arrange transportation with the help of their accommodation.

Resorts may provide free transportation to their guests, while smaller hotels will be happy to arrange for a taxi. Bicycle rentals are also common. Guests should inquire at the front desk of their accommodation, as hotels and resorts may provide affordable or free access to bicycles for their guests.

Unlike most of the country, Cam Ranh and the surrounding province have a long-lasting dry season and relatively less rain. From February to September, the months are dry and hot. Rain begins in October and lasts until January, though most storms are nothing more than an afternoon downpour.

The biggest downside to the rainy season is that the typically clear ocean will turn murky. The busiest times of the year for tourists are during the summer months and winter holidays.

Beach Sunset in Cam Ranh Vietnam

With the potential to become South Vietnam’s number one tourist destination, Cam Ranh is on the cusp of a major breakthrough. International recognition is growing, and Cam Ranh is fully in the spotlight. Spoiling its guests with silken beaches, wondrous activities, and outstanding accommodations, this tropical destination needs to be at the top of your bucket list.

Tranquil and mostly vacant now, booking a stay won’t be so easy in the future as Cam Ranh’s waitlist begins to grow.

Best Things to Do & See in Cam Ranh, Vietnam

Bai dai beach.

Although only 20 km far from Nha Trang city center and about 12 km from the airport, Bai Dai has a pure natural space. In addition to the road from the airport to the spacious city center, which is paved and planted with flowers, this area has nothing called modern. On this 10-kilometer beach, there are only blue sea and white sand. Along the coast are high white sand dunes. Rarely does it have such white sandhills?

cam ranh bay vietnam

The beach here is smooth, clean and especially not much impact of human hands. The sea here is quite shallow, so it is very safe for visitors including those who cannot swim. The feeling of swimming here is also different from swimming in Nha Trang beaches  because you will not be affected by the noise of the engine on the street, the water motor and the guests walking on the beach…

Sealife Amusement Park

The Sealife amusement park has a total area of 5,000m² of water in Cam Hai Dong commune, Cam Lam district, Khanh Hoa province, located in the beautiful sea with fine sandy beaches at Bai Dai. Coming to this amusement park, you will be surprised with the largest floating park in Vietnam, up to 2000m² wide with many new experiences.

Here, you will experience sea sports services such as parachute flying, jet skiing, water skiing. In addition, you can go scuba diving to watch corals, go banana buoys on the sea, watch marine fishes on basket boat … Sealife has become a familiar destination for many young people who love thrilling games at sea.

Tu Van Pagoda

Tu Van is a pagoda built in 1968 on 3/4 road, Cam Ranh City. Due to the reason that the temple is built mainly from snail shells and corals, the temple is also known by the name of Oc Pagoda (Snail Pagoda) or San Ho pagoda (Coral Pagoda). Thanks to its unique architecture, the pagoda has become an attractive attraction. The most impressive thing is that the 39-meter Bao Tich tower is recognized as the highest blessing tower in Vietnam. The tower has an elaborate structure with 49 pyramidal pyramids on the outside, each of which has a statue of a thousand hands and a thousand eyes; At the top of each pyramid, there is a small stupa. Therefore, hundreds of large and small Buddha statues are meticulously arranged on this tower.

tu van pagoda cam ranh vietnam

In addition to the tower, the journey down to “18 floors of hell” is a very interesting experience at Tu Van Pagoda. The road down to “hell” is only about 500 meters long but is still marvelously built from coral stones, snail shells, outside covered with eye-catching dragon shapes. Penetrating deep underground, the path here is dark, narrow and tortuous. Along the path are 12 plots that record the crime of the world and the punishment at the prison, like the advice for people to live good and be kind. Sometimes you will be startled because of the scene of “creepy torture” hidden in the flickering light.

Hon Ba Natural Reserve

Hon Ba is a mountain located between Khanh Phu commune, Khanh Vinh district, and Suoi Cat commune, Cam Lam district, quite close to Cam Ranh. Hon Ba is 1578m high compared to the sea, the road from the foot of the mountain to the peak is winding, looking from a distance like a snake wrapped around the summit, the average slope here is 8 degrees, so it is quite easy to run to the top of the mountain.

hon ba nature reserve things to do in cam ranh bay

At a higher altitude than Dalat, the temperature in Hon Ba ranges from 10-20 degrees Celsius and is cloudy all year round. The way to Hon Ba is said to go through a primeval forest but now there are only a few old trees, the rest are low-grade trees. More than 8 years ago, Hon Ba was opened by Khanh Hoa province and Yasaka Nha Trang hotel invested to develop tourism but up to now, Hon Ba is almost just a destination for people to visit the place where Dr. Yersin once lived and worked.

Tu Van Pagoda  on April 3 Street is a fascinating sight to behold with its 40-meter-high tower built entirely of dead coral and sea shells.

The pagoda was built in 1968 by Buddhist monks though it was only in 1995 that they began to build the famous tower using marine debris that is abundant along Cam Ranh’s shores.

There are hundreds of idols of the Buddha and deities on the tower while its inside features the Goddess of Mercy, a deity with 1,000 eyes and arms.

A highlight of the pagoda is its tunnel system called ‘the 18 layers of hell’ that takes approximately 40 minutes to one hour to walk through. The port’s significance in promoting economic growth in the region cannot be overstated, making Cam Ranh a pivotal player in Vietnam’s development.

Connected to the world by the Cam Ranh International Airport, the city is easily accessible for travellers from various destinations. Weekend Trip Guide: Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam’s best-kept beachside secret

Chances are you haven’t yet heard of it; but if the thrill of a relatively undiscovered location excites you and the more mainstream beach bustles of Bali and Phuket exhaust you, Cam Ranh may be the cure.

A gateway to the nearing beach town of Nha Trang, and a further hop and skip away from the increasingly popular Da Nang and Phu Quoc, Cam Ranh is the home of the quaint, cool, and – yes – quiet. Formerly one of the US military’s most prominent bases during the Vietnam War, it only recently opened up for tourism, with a freshly-minted international airport and a very select slew of wondrous visitors to follow.

Cam Ranh feels incredibly under-the-radar, but that is exactly its appeal. Located in the Southern Khanh Hoa Province off the South Central Coast of Vietnam, the town boasts an Indochine charm that can easily capture the heart of the independent and curious explorer. Checking in for the weekend, read ahead for its key highlights below, and get packing on poolside literature , resort wear , and plenty of new adventures.

Cam Ranh

What’s the vibe?

It is rare for a Bangkokian to feel like he or she is the only person in a single kilometre radius, but that’s exactly where and how Cam Ranh Bay may tickle said Bangkokian’s fancy. The quiet beach town is set on a long-winding peninsula, featuring untouched stretches of white sand. Take ‘untouched’ quite literally here. Dead corals wash up on the shores in the mornings (before dedicated visitors clear them up in true eco-conscious spirit), as the coast remains wonderfully free of mass tourism and polluting large hotels. In fact, all of Cam Ranh Bay has something seemingly deserted about it, with a few fishermen’s boats lying tranquil in the distance to ward off intruders to the peace. It is incredibly quaint and entirely unpretentious in an almost surreal manner. Consider it the ideal place to go incognito, if you wanted to.

cam ranh tourist attractions

Where to stay

A quick 15-minute ride from the airport, The Anam is set on a private stretch of beach directly in Cam Ranh Bay. For an approximation for how it scores on a romantic-to-idyllic ratio, here’s a fun fact: The Anam was the setting for multiple versions of the popular dating show The Bachelor .

Quirky anecdotes aside, it is easy to see why the state-of-the-art resort was chosen as an ideal spot to fall in love. Wide, open spaces convey a breezy vacation feeling throughout, with rooms and villas linked by pebbled walkways. Whether you explore the property on foot or order a golf buggy to take you between the four restaurants, spa pavilions, and the beach, there’s a wonderful sense of ease and relaxation here.

cam ranh tourist attractions

The design ethos is one that blends colonial era charm with Vietnamese accents, surrounding three pools, multiple sports activity centres, and a 3D movie cinema. Serenely tropical and highly ‘grammable , stay in one of the beach-facing rooms and suites, or bring the whole fam for a stay in one of the large, two-floor, multi-bedroom villas. Featuring sweeping balconies and private pools, The Anam is very much the kind of resort that seeks to indulge its visitors, and invites them to never really have to leave the comforts of the premises.

cam ranh tourist attractions

What to eat

The Anam itself offers several dining outlets to enjoy both local and international delicacies. Definitely partake in a Vietnamese cooking class at Lang Viet Restauant & Bar to see what goes into making the most common traditional staples, from Vietnamese spring rolls to a pungent mango salad.

cam ranh tourist attractions

Naturally, seafood is very big here, and is incorporated in local adaptations of Vietnamese favourites. Cam Ranh specifically boasts a dish similar to Thailand’s very own kanom krok,  but in more savoury form. Known as  can cake Cam Ranh , the little hotcakes are filled with a sour broth and filled with shrimp, squid, or quail eggs.

For more food options, we headed to the nearing town of Nha Trang to sample everything from bun cha ca grilled fish rice noodles to banh xeo much Nha Trang egg squid pancake. Nha Trang bread is also region-renowned, and whilst banh mi isn’t a particularly famous dish here, it would be near culinary sin not to stop at a street-side banh mi stall to sample a fresh baguette or three.

Head to one of the many cafes and coffeeshops (again, a Vietnamese foodie sin not to) to rack up on heartbeats and adrenaline with Vietnamese coffee, at cute spots like AN Cafe , where the coffee is produced in-house. End your day with an evening of live music and soft ocean waves at one of the many beachfront restaurants, such as the Cookbook Cafe or the popular  Sailing Club Nha Trang .

cam ranh tourist attractions

Cam Ranh spells wellness with a capital ‘W’. Be it sunrise yoga on the beach at The Anam, or a Vietnamese herbal massage at the renowned Fusion Cam Ranh spa, weekend trips to the bay area are incomplete without a little self- and soul-pampering. The town’s unspoiled and quiet beach setting makes it a prime location for water sports, whilst its tranquil atmosphere is a breeding ground for all kinds of stress-soothing. Feeling adventurous? Take a boat out to explore tiny Binh Hung island opposite Cam Ranh Bay, or explore Tu Van Pagoda on 3/4 Road. The temple is built almost entirely from snail shells and coral; a testament to the beauty of the beach town.

cam ranh tourist attractions

Nevertheless, do not assume that Cam Ranh does not know how to party. Overlooking the coast 47 floors above the city, definitely head to Skylight Nha Trang for a night out. The Skydeck, restaurant, lounge, pool, and club are the go-to venue for a crazy evening out on the town. You’ll soon come to realise that fruit platters and water pipes are a common occurrence at club tables, and you’ll also find that a dancing Pikachu mascot is exactly what was lacking on your nights out back home. Also, a hangover the next day? In Cam Ranh? Alongside a cup of Vietnamese black coffee? Not too painful.

Cam Ranh

Do not miss

If there is one spot besides the beach that everyone raved to us about here, it is this one. It is no secret that café culture is big in Vietnam, and no visit would be complete without checking out the extremely photogenic Rainforest Café . Spread across multiple floors and themed after a tropical oasis, the charming coffeeshop is a cosy and playful spot for a sweet afternoon treat. Be warned: there will be queues outside to enter, but the wait will be well worth it.

Bangkok Airways now flies from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Cam Ranh four times a week (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun) as the only carrier offering direct flights between Bangkok and Cam Ranh. The flight takes approximately two hours, with lounge access available and warm meals served onboard.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

What to explore, where to stay, what to eat, how to get there.

Canh Ranh, which used to be a U.S. air and naval base during the Vietnam War, is less crowded than neighboring Nha Trang but has some unique attractions.

It has Vietnam’s fourth busiest airport, a pagoda built from dead coral and sea shells and a nature reserve.

The best time to visit Cam Ranh is between April and August when the dry warm weather makes it ideal for trekking and adventure sports.

The average annual temperature is 28 degrees Celsius.

Cam Ranh has a long dry season lasting from February to September, which makes it a magnet for vacationing western tourists.

But August to November is the storm season.

Around 12 kilometers from Cam Ranh Airport, Bai Dai (Long Beach) stretches for 13 kilometers with turquoise waters and is uncrowded.

Since a 21km long road through a mountainous pass between Nha Trang and Cam Ranh Airport opened in 2004, Bai Dai area has been becoming a resort paradise with a series of luxury projects coming up along the beach.

cam ranh tourist attractions

Sealife Bai Dai tourist complex spreads over an area of 5,000 square meters including a 2,000 sq.m water park. It is situated in shallow water to ensure safety, especially of children, and offers a number of adventure activities for both adults and kids.

A diving tour to see the coral reefs and marine ecosystem costs VND500,000 (US$20.19) per person while a coracle tour is priced from VND140,000.

An underwater walking tour through beautiful coral reefs and schools of colorful marine creatures costs VND800,000 per person and a paragliding ride costs VND500,000.

cam ranh tourist attractions

Tu Van Pagoda on April 3 Street is a fascinating sight to behold with its 40-meter-high tower built entirely of dead coral and sea shells.

The pagoda was built in 1968 by Buddhist monks though it was only in 1995 that they began to build the famous tower using marine debris that is abundant along Cam Ranh’s shores.

cam ranh tourist attractions

There are hundreds of idols of the Buddha and deities on the tower while its inside features the Goddess of Mercy, a deity with 1,000 eyes and arms.

A highlight of the pagoda is its tunnel system called ‘the 18 layers of hell’ that takes approximately 40 minutes to one hour to walk through. It is dark and narrow, and so it may be best that claustrophobic travelers sit this one out. The tunnel is also elaborately decorated with rock, coral and shells between the stark displays of hellish torture.

“Are you still in Vietnam?,” my friend texted me. “That doesn’t look like anywhere I visited there.”

I had just posted a photo of the scenery from a rooftop I was on. The photo pictured hotel high rises along a white-sand beach and pale blue sea. It looked like a scene you might find in Maui, Hawaii — not Vietnam.

I was in Cam Ranh, a beach town in southeastern Vietnam on a peninsula enclosing Cam Ranh Bay. Despite its beauty and the fact it has an international airport, the town isn’t heavily promoted to international visitors so is mainly only visited by Vietnamese.

The very best of The Latch delivered straight to your inbox.

I spent three days swimming in its sea, taking in spectacular, pinch-me-moment sunsets and experiencing local Vietnamese culture. If you’re keen to head to Cam Ranh too and discover this Vietnam hidden gem, below I’m sharing all that I did there, along with some extra info on what I didn’t do but would recommend.

How to Get to Cam Ranh

The easiest way to get to Cam Ranh from Australia is to fly to Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) and then take another 70-minute flight to Cam Ranh.

Cam Ranh Vietnam

I flew Vietjet Air (full disclosure: I visited Cam Ranh on a media trip with the airline), which flies to Ho Chi Minh City from Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. The flight from both Sydney and Melbourne to Ho Chi Min City is roughly 9 hours and 10 minutes. I did both flights in one day, but you can break it up by spending some time in Ho Chi Minh City before heading to Cam Ranh.

You can also get to Cam Ranh by train, taking it from Saigon Railway Station to Nga Ba Railway Station. It takes about 7-12 hours depending on your route. Another option is to take a sleeper bus from Saigon to Cam Ranh City. The travel time is about 7.5-8.5 hours.

What to Do in Cam Ranh

As mentioned, I swam, caught sunsets and experienced Vietnamese culture in Cam Ranh. The area is filled with resorts that have multiple pools and private white sand and clear, shallow-water beaches that give you no reason to leave.

Should you wish to explore, you could head to Nha Trang City in Cam Ranh for some sightseeing. There, you can visit Po Nagar Cham Towers, a complex of ancient Hindu templates dating back to the 7 th century. The towers were dedicated to the goddess Po Nagar and offer a glimpse into the region’s Cham history and culture. You might also want to visit Nha Trang Cathedral, also known as Christ the King Cathedral, with French Gothic architecture and stained-glass windows.

Cam Ranh Vietnam

Visit the Nha Trang countryside to experience rural life and try a cooking class in the old village of Phu Vinh, surrounded by rice fields. After that, you could book a sunset and dinner cruise where you can take in live music rooftop as you watch the sunset on top of a boat before heading inside it for a three-course dinner.

You might also want to embark on a snorkel tour in Nha Trang Bay. Many tours include welcome drinks, snorkel and fishing equipment followed by a barbecue dinner on board.

Where to Stay in Cam Ranh

I stayed at Movenpick Resort Cam Ranh , which is about a 30-minute drive from Nha Trang City. It had a winding resort pool, surrounded by palm trees, set against the turquoise and deep blue sea.

Cam Ranh Vietnam

My balcony had a lounger that I would lie on, looking out over the pool and glittering sea below. The resort is geared towards families, with life-size characters roaming around the breakfast buffet and a giant ice cream sculpture in the lobby.

If you’re not travelling with kids, I’d recommend you opt for one of the many other resorts that line the beachfront, including the Raddison Blu Resort Cam Ranh, Alma Resort Cam Ranh or Fusion Resort Cam Ranh. The area also has hostels with rooms from AUD $30 a night.

You could also opt to stay in Nha Trang Center, though it’s more crowded and busier, whereas Cam Ranh is more of a relaxed beach town.
