Micah Morris’s PGA Tour Canada Debut DID NOT Go Well

Former member of Good Good Golf and current YouTuber and PGA Tour hopeful Micah Morris played his first PGA Tour Canada event this weekend, and it did not go as planned.

We reported yesterday that Morris was playing the Osprey Valley Open at TPC Toronto through a Sponsor’s Exemption, something he confirmed on his YouTube channel and Instagram recently.

It is his first tournament on a PGA Tour circuit, but unfortunately for Morris, he came well short of making the cut, finishing in last place through two days after firing an 82 on Thursday and a very respectable 75 on Friday.

There is no doubt that nerves played into Morris’s 82 on Thursday.

Let’s be honest: Many of us have quite an adrenaline rush when we play the first tee shot of a local tournament or even a scramble with friends. This was a whole new ballgame for Morris, who is one of the most respected players on YouTube and is a phenomenal player.

But as Meek Mill once said, “There’s levels to this,” and Morris was simply outclassed this weekend by finishing 156th out of 156 golfers.

Morris will have plenty of work to do, and we are encouraged that his next outing will be much better than this, but it is understandable that the first outing of his career may have surfaced anxiety in a way that was never felt before.

Morris has been vocal about his desire to play on professional tours and on the professional level, so we doubt this is the last time you’ll see him.

Morris played with Cougar Collins, who is -5 and T25, and Sebastian Szirmak, who is +3 and will miss the cut.

Blake Maum currently leads the Osprey Valley Open at -15 after firing 64 and 63 on Thursday and Friday, respectively, sitting three shots clear of Myles Creighton.

YouTube Golf Stars to Battle for PGA Tour Exemption at TPC Myrtle Beach

YouTube golf creators are among the game’s most popular personalities, attracting millions of video views as fans watch them play matches on courses from coast to coast, but have you ever wondered how Grant Horvat, Micah Morris, Fat Perez and friends would fare in a formal, competitive environment?

You are getting ready to find out.

Some of the game’s leading YouTubers will have the opportunity to earn a spot in the PGA Tour’s inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic.

TPC Myrtle Beach will be hosting “The Q at Myrtle Beach,” a 16-player, 18-hole tournament with the winner earning a coveted sponsor’s exemption into the Myrtle Beach Classic . The field for the event will include eight of YouTube’s most prominent golf creators, all of whom are highly skilled players, and eight aspiring professionals, many of whom have experience on the PGA Tour.

The Q will be played March 4, but it will be closed to the public and the results kept private until a 90-minute documentary covering the competition is released on Play Golf Myrtle Beach’s YouTube page on April 23.

YouTube creators participating in The Q at Myrtle Beach will be:

Grant Horvat – Played collegiately at Palm Beach Atlantic University and features more than 1.35 million combined subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and Tik Tok.

Micah Morris – Texas native who has played on PGA TOUR Canada and features more than 1 million subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and Tik Tok

Mason Nut or Cole Lantz of BustaJack – The BustaJack duo will compete in a playoff match to determine who earns a spot in The Q at Myrtle Beach. They have more than 350,000 combined subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and Tik Tok.

Peter Finch – Based out of the UK, Finch has more than 1.25 million subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram, Tik Tok and X.

Fat Perez – Nick Stubbe goes by Fat Perez and is a member of the iconic group Bob Does Sports. Fat Perez features more than 1 million combined subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and Tik Tok.

Luke Kwon – Member of Good Good Golf, played collegiately at Oklahoma and was a PGA TOUR China winner. Kwon has nearly 400,000 combined subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and Tik Tok. Good Good Golf has more than 1.4 million subscribers on YouTube.

George Bryan – A three-time All-American at the University of South Carolina, he made the cut in the PGA TOUR’s Bermuda Championship in 2023. Bryan has more than 410,000 total subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and Tik Tok.

Dan Rapaport – Member of ForePlay and Barstool Sports, he is known as one of the game’s best playing golf media members. The Northwestern alum was featured extensively in Netflix’s “Full Swing,” and has more than 250,000 combined subscribers and followers on X, Instagram and Tik Tok.

Aspiring professional golfers competing in the event will be:

Morgan Deneen – Former Coastal Carolina University star and 2018 Sun Belt Champion is the assistant pro at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club and has played in two PGA Tour events.

Jamie Wilson – Former All-SEC golfer at the University of South Carolina, Wilson has earned a start on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Matt Atkins – USC Aiken alum has made a total of 25 starts on PGA and Korn Ferry TOURS, including The RSM Classic last fall.

Turk Pettit – The 2021 NCAA champion at Clemson is aiming to become the first former LIV golfer to earn a spot in a PGA TOUR event.

Tyler Watts – America’s No. 1 ranked junior is a sophomore in high school looking to qualify for his first PGA TOUR event.

Jay Card – High Point University alum played in 19 Korn Ferry Tour events in 2023, recording a top 10 finish.

Scott Stevens – University of South Carolina graduate is a former winner on PGA Tour Canada, and he played 21 Korn Ferry Tour events in 2023.

One spot is being saved for a Myrtle Beach-area PGA professional who will have the opportunity to earn a place in The Q by winning a local qualifying event.

The Myrtle Beach Classic is more than two months away, but with golf’s leading influencers competing for a spot in the field, the excitement surrounding the event is already building.

In the event that will be the first of its kind, the inaugural PGA Tour event, the Myrtle Beach Classic, is offering a spot in its field to a golf content creator. 

On March 4, eight of the top golf content creators and influencers in the industry will tee it up against eight aspiring professional golfers with serious golf resumes (and ties to the state of South Carolina) at TPC Myrtle Beach for an 18-hole shootout, referred to as the "The Q at Myrtle Beach."

YouTube Golf is one of the fastest-rising forms of content in sports, and many of the influencers have massive followings. Recently, the Good Good Desert Open took place under the lights and featured many of the same golfers in this field. Good Good Golf has 1.43 million subscribers with 443 videos on their YouTube channel, including over a million views on the Desert Open, also broadcast on Peacock.

The Myrtle Beach Classic will be played May 9-12, 2024, at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. The tournament will feature a purse of $3.9 million with 300 FedExCup points awarded to the champion.  All professional and amateur competitors meet PGA TOUR Tournament Regulations for sponsor exemptions, requiring a USGA handicap of 0.0 or better, and are eligible for PGA TOUR competition should they qualify. 

Matt Atkins – The USC Aiken alum played six seasons on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he won the 2017 Mexico Championship. Among his 25 PGA TOUR starts, Atkins finished T38 at The RSM Classic in November 2023. George Bryan – The three-time All-American at the University of South Carolina made the cut in his lone PGA TOUR start at the 2023 Bermuda Championship. Bryan has more than 410,000 total subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Jay Card III – The High Point University alum has made 39 starts on the Korn Ferry Tour and has three top-10s, most recently at the 2023 Wichita Open (T7). Morgan Deneen – The former Coastal Carolina University star and 2018 Sun Belt Champion is the assistant pro at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club and has made three PGA TOUR starts, most recently the 2023 Fortinet Championship. How to Watch

The event will be closed to the public, but a 90-minute video will be released on Play Golf Myrtle Beach’s YouTube page on April 23, and the creators will post content on their respective channels documenting their experiences.

TPC Myrtle Beach, a Tom Fazio-Lanny Wadkins design, has been ranked among America’s top 100 public courses and has long been one of the area’s premier big event venues. The course hosted the PGA TOUR Champions' 2000 Charles Schwab Cup Championship and the NCAA Division I Myrtle Beach Regional tournament in 2019, among other high-level events.

Some of golf's most prominent content creators will compete in a 16-player, 18-hole shootout for a spot in the PGA Tour's Myrtle Beach Classic

A new one-of-a-kind qualifying tournament will feature some of the most popular golf content creators on YouTube as they compete to earn a spot at a PGA Tour event. 

The Q at Myrtle Beach will see a mix of 16 professional and amateur golfers compete in an 18-hole shootout on March 4 at TPC Myrtle Beach, with the winner receiving a sponsor exemption into the Myrtle Beach Classic – a new event added to the PGA Tour calendar this year – at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in May.

The field includes eight of golf’s most prominent content creators, with the rest of the players made up of professionals. 

The eight golf content creators include: George Bryan, Peter Finch, Grant Horvat, Luke Kwon, Micah Morris, Dan Rapaport, Nick Stubbe (aka Fat Perez) and either Mason Nut or Cole Lantz from Bustajack (who will compete in a playoff match to determine who earns the final spot).

They will have their work cut out, however, with the rest of the field made up of professional tour winners and up-and-coming young talents, including Korn Ferry Tour winner Matt Atkins and former LIV Golf player Turk Pettit.

The eight pros competing will be: Atkins, Jay Card III, Morgan Deneen, Pettit, Scott Stevens, Tyler Watts and Jamie Wilson .

All competitors at the event meet the PGA Tour tournament regulations for sponsor exemptions, which requires a USGA handicap of 0.0 or better.

Since 1990, 12 players have won on the PGA Tour with a sponsor exemption, the most recent being Nick Dunlap, who became the first amateur to win on tour in 33 years when he won the American Express last month.

The Myrtle Beach Classic, which features a $3.9 million purse, will make its PGA Tour debut on May 9 at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

YouTube golf creators to compete for once-in-a-lifetime PGA Tour sponsor's exemption

It looks like the PGA Tour is pivoting to video … at least in this one specific instance. The “Golf Capital of the World” is set to host its first-ever sanctioned event and just might feature your favorite online golf personality taking on the best players in the world, because that’s a thing that can happen now.

Golf Tourism Solutions and Visit Myrtle Beach will host “The Q at Myrtle Beach,” a 16-player, 18-hole shootout in early March that comes with quite the prize: An unrestricted sponsor's exemption for the winner into the PGA Tour's Myrtle Beach Classic, which makes its debut in May. Eight prominent YouTube golf creators will be partaking in the Dunes Golf and Beach Club event (the same course that where the PGA Tour event will be played) and will of course be creating their own content and videos on their respective channels. No surprise there.

There will also be a 90-minute video documenting this once-in-a-lifetime tournament that will eventually drop on Play Golf Myrtle Beach’s YouTube page April 23. If you want to watch some golf, this Myrtle Beach event is about to provide you with an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Tournament officials were quick to note in the press release announcing the event that all 16 participants meet the PGA Tour regulations regarding sponsor's exemptions. All are either professional golfers or amateurs with a USGA handicap of 0.0 or better, and are eligible for PGA Tour competition should they qualify.

Now, you’re probably wondering just who will be teeing off with a chance to make the big time. Eight online personalities and eight pros looking for a spot will all be fighting for that critical victory. Here’s who we’ve got:

Matt Atkins: The USC Aiken alum played six seasons on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he won the 2017 Mexico Championship. Among his 25 PGA Tour starts, Atkins finished T-38 at The RSM Classic in November 2023.

George Bryan IV: The three-time All-American at the University of South Carolina made the cut in his lone PGA Tour start at the 2023 Bermuda Championship. Bryan has more than 410,000 total subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

Jay Card III: The High Point University alum has made 39 starts on the Korn Ferry Tour and has three top-10s, most recently at the 2023 Wichita Open (T-7).

Morgan Deneen: The former Coastal Carolina University golfer and 2018 Sun Belt champion is the assistant pro at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club and has made three PGA Tour starts, most recently the 2023 Fortinet Championship.

Peter Finch: Based in the United Kingdom, Finch has more than 1.25 million subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and X.

Grant Horvat: Played collegiately at Palm Beach Atlantic University and has more than 1.35 million combined subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

Luke Kwon: The member of Good Good Golf and University of Oklahoma alum has made more than 50 starts in PGA Tour-sanctioned events. Kwon has nearly 400,000 combined subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. Good Good Golf has more than 1.4 million subscribers on YouTube.

Micah Morris: The Texas native made one PGA Tour Canada start in 2023 and features more than one million subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

Turk Pettit: The 2021 NCAA championship winner from Clemson. He turned pro and played in all eight LIV Golf events during the upstart circuit's inaugural 2022 season before playing in PGA Tour Qualifying School last fall.

Dan Rapaport: Member of the "Fore Play" podcast and Barstool Sports, the Northwestern alum (and former Golf Digest writer) was featured extensively in Netflix’s “Full Swing,” and has more than 250,000 combined subscribers and followers on X, Instagram and TikTok.

Scott Stevens: The University of South Carolina alum recorded one victory and three additional top-10s on PGA TOUR Canada in 2022 and made 21 Korn Ferry Tour starts in 2023.

Nick Stubbe: Known as Fat Perez, Nick Stubbe is a member of "Bob Does Sports." Fat Perez features more than one million combined subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

Tyler Watts: The high school sophomore from Huntsville, Alabama, won the Jones Cup Junior Invitational in December 2023.

Jamie Wilson: A former All-SEC golfer at the University of South Carolina, Wilson has made two starts on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Mason Nut or Cole Lantz of "BustaJack Golf": The BustaJack duo will compete in a playoff match to determine who earns a spot in The Q at Myrtle Beach. They have more than 350,000 combined subscribers and followers on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

So, yeah, these professionals and golf obsessives will all get the opportunity to clinch the final spot in the Myrtle Beach Classic, which just so happens to have a $3.9 million purse and 300 FedEx Cup points. It just goes to show you that if you want to make the highest level in golf, all you need is a camera and the ability to say, “Please like and smash that subscribe button.”
