The second ship in the transformational Edge Series , Celebrity Apex, has some of the most luxurious accommodations at sea, including staterooms with ‘Infinite Verandas’ and two-story villas with their own outdoor plunge pools, to name a few.

Add to this the ship’s 29 world-class culinary venues, including seven unique specialty restaurants, and signature spaces such as the incredible Magic Carpet®, the world’s first cantilevered venue at sea, and the carefree Rooftop Garden, and this stunning vessel offers no better way to relax and enjoy an unforgettable journey.

Traveling in ‘Celebrity Revolution’ Style Showing off their new and stylish “revolutionized” look , Celebrity Equinox, Celebrity Millennium, Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Summit offer reimagined spaces and redesigned accommodations, restaurants and bars as they sail the regions crystal clear waters and visit a variety of intriguing islands and pristine beaches.

2023-2024 Caribbean Cruises

Our new 2023-2024 Caribbean season is our most exciting yet, because our next Edge® Series ship, Celebrity Ascent, is debuting in the islands. There’s no better place for a ship designed to connect you more closely than ever to the sea and all the sun-soaked places on the horizon. But that’s just the start, because with Celebrity Ascent, we’ll have eight stunning ships covering the Caribbean—including three revolutionary Edge Series ships—from the colorful reefs of Belize to the white sands of St. Lucia. Choose from a wide variety of sailings ranging from 4 to 11 nights for just the right amount of island time, departing from Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Tampa. Plus, we’ve added the new port of Scarborough, Tobago to our already impressive lineup of tropical destinations, and we’ve brought back a popular double-overnight stay in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. There are so many amazing Caribbean sailings this season, you might want to book more than one.

Itineraries

Returning port, scarborough, tobago.

Scarborough is steeped in history going back to the 1600s, and the British, Dutch, and French all left their mark here. That history comes to life at Fort King George, built in 1781, with its well-preserved prison, canons, and other intriguing relics. Nature lover? The Nylon Pool is your ideal escape. It’s a naturally formed swimming area in the middle of the sea created by an offshore sandbar. Nearby Buccoo Reef is a great place to snorkel. Not to be outdone, Pigeon Point Beach and the Main Ridge Forest Reserve offer even more natural beauty to enjoy.

We last cruised on the Equinox Nov 28, 2021 and joined our friend and his 2 year old son last minute for this voyage on Jan 30th.

I did an extensive review of the ship for that Nov/Dec cruise , so this review is going to focus on three things: Cruising Celebrity with a Toddler, Cruising during COVID times, and the different entertainers that were on the ship. In separate reviews, I’ll have some great pictures of the food and I’ll have a report on the two unique excursions we did while on this cruise.

Cruising with a Toddler Most people might think my friend to be crazy, but he has been really wanting to get back to cruising and with his wife unable to have as much flexibility to travel as he has, he decided to book a cruise for just him and his two-year-old son. About two weeks before departure he convinced my husband and I to join him on the 12-night cruise. Ironically this was the same ship and itinerary we took in Nov/Dec, but since we have pretty much been to all the Caribbean islands anyway, we decided to take up his suggestions and join him.

caribbean cruises celebrity 2022

Quite frankly, we also weren’t sure about what it would be like to cruise with a two-year-old, but between the fact that his is a very good boy and has a close bond with his Dad and the fact that Celebrity made him a Celebrity with the VIP treatment, it was a fabulous experience for all 4 of us.

caribbean cruises celebrity 2022

Dinner can be a challenge in any situation for a toddler. Generally, they don’t always have the attention span to sit for a long meal, and on a cruise ship, there is really no way around that, but we made it work. It helps that he is used to going out to eat with his Dad, so he has had some practice as dining out. Our friend also cooks a lot at home and tries as much as he can to give his son real food rather than chicken nuggets and fish sticks, so for that reason the children’s menu was not preferred. Instead for most meals Dad just shared his food with his son, or we ordered a steak to be brought to his son right away as the rest of us were making our way though our earlier courses. In typical toddler fashion, what he liked one day wasn’t what he wanted the next day. We had to mitigate dinner roll consumption by allowing everyone at our table to take one piece of bread and then it went onto the other table, out of sight out of mind for the little one.

caribbean cruises celebrity 2022

We even did three nights of specialty dining, for which again he was surprisingly good. He had a good nap every afternoon, so that helped mitigate the fussiness that one might expect from a toddler. On our final night of specialty dining, we split ourselves into two groups. With the little boy and I going to the animated Le Petite Chef Dining experience, and Dad and my husband doing the Tuscan Grill. Luckily these two venues are adjacent to each other. About 45 minutes into the Le Petite chef experience, the little guy had had enough and was ready to see Daddy again. The staff brought our entrees over to Tuscan Grill where the little boy was able to sit still for his Dad and we all finished our meal together.

Youth Program Celebrity has always, in my opinion, had a great youth program. The age requirements have always been 3 and older and fully potty trained. My friend knew this when we booked him and was prepared to spend 100% of his time on the cruise with his son. On the first day of the cruise, we learned that his toddler was the only person under the age of 18 on the cruise. The youth director let him know that normally the toddler play room is staffed open all day long for parents to come by with their young children for play time with the parents present. Because he was the only youth on the cruise, they would not have the kids playroom staffed regularly. But instead the youth director gave him his phone number so that he could call and arrange for someone from the youth staff to meet them there with a few minutes notice so that he could have play time at the facility. Someone from the youth staff was on call every day for just this purpose. They also let him check out a toy truck to play with in his room or on the lawn club. And speaking of the lawn club, that was another great spot where he could run around and burn off some energy. Celebrity gave him a gift of a bucket with shovel, plastic clam and starfish molds got him to play with in his room.

caribbean cruises celebrity 2022

All of these things were great, but the best thing that they did for him during the cruise was to set up an inflatable baby pool on the pool deck Celebrity requires that children be fully potty trained to use the regular pools, so they had three engineers, youth staff and pool staff work to get this inflatable pool set up for him most afternoons. That way he could splash and play and burn off some energy all while enjoying the music of the pool side entertainers. Dad and friends could chill in lawn chairs and watch him play.

For the most part, fellow guests didn’t seem to mind having a toddler around. Most guests would tell us that they are grand parents and just love kids. I suppose the ones that were annoyed probably didn’t say anything to us. Sometimes, when the band was playing, he would want to dance, but sometimes his idea of dancing was running around, which meant the three of us adults trying to make sure that he stayed out of peoples way. Occasionally, the other guests gave him too much attention, and it would kind of stir him up, since at two he was unable to verbalize what he needed to express.

caribbean cruises celebrity 2022

I took him to the production shows, and he really loved all the music, dancing, acrobatics, lights and costumes. He would sit still for the full 45 minutes and really enjoy the show. We didn’t take him to the feature entertainers show simply because we thought he might not find it as engaging.

There were a couple of nights when “Aunt Suzanne” offered to take him back the room and let the guys have a night out. I wanted to watch the Olympics which came on at 10 or 11 at night, so I took him back to the room and he watched Thomas the Train on a tablet, while I watched Olympics.

Overall, the staff went out of their way to accommodate the little guy, sometimes it seemed like too much attention as every where we went, we were greeted by a Greek chorus calling out his name.

Cruising During COVID and Mask Times Cruising has been back in operation since June of 2021, and the overall percentage of passengers that have tested positive has been microscopic compared to on land. In fact, in Dec 21 or Jan of 22, if an average cruise ship was a state, it would have been the safest state in the country in terms of percentage of COVID cases on board. Everyone who is age eligible is vaccinated and tested. In the case my friend’s son he was not age eligible for the vaccination, so he had a PCR test at home, an antigen test at the pier, and another test before disembarkation. On top of that, all the workers on the cruise ship were wearing masks, and for this cruise, which may have been the last cruise to require it, guests had to wear masks when public areas indoors and not actively eating or drinking.

caribbean cruises celebrity 2022

In our staterooms or outdoors on the ship, we were not required to wear them. In some of the ports, we were required to wear them when going ashore or when not actively eating or drinking. Truly this was no big deal. Hopefully science will tell as to whether or not the masks actually do anything to mitigate the spread of COVID or other infections, but this was the protocol at the time, and we could stay at home and not wear a mask, or go on a cruise and have to wear a mask sometimes. We obviously like the latter option much better!

We only had to wear the masks for a few minutes at a time. Even my friend’s son wore his. He was so cute because when we’d finish a meal, we’d say to him “Lets get your mask on” and then he would so cutely say “Mask On”. He’d only needed it until he got outside or back to his room. This is not like traveling on a plane where travelers have to wear a mask for hours at a time or being at school all day with a mask on.

Cruising during this period, when the CDC oddly decided that they would issue a warning against cruising, meant that many passengers cancelled or just didn’t book. That meant that we had only about 880 guests on our cruise. Dining was virtually open seating, though we did usually come no later than 6:30 because we had a small child with us. It also meant that the buffet was navigable. I have often complaints on a full ship that the lunch buffet was completely overcrowded with no place to sit. If the weather is not conducive to folks eating outside on a full ship, it can be impossible to find a place to eat at lunch. That is such a shame because the lunchtime buffet food is pretty darn good, but if there is no place to sit, you can’t enjoy it. I really loved the fact that only ½ the tables were ever occupied. Most days we were even able to get one of the large round booths which worked well for a somewhat squirmy toddler. We were so spoiled. I know we will miss these days when ships are sailing full again.

Entertainment Celebrity features three basic types of entertainment: Production Cast, Touring Featured Entertainers, and house bands/performers. The production singers and dancers put on the juke box musical shows that they feature in the main theater, and sometimes a pop-up show or another special event.

The touring artists are specialty acts like singers, violinists, singing groups, and comedians. Traditional these acts might come and go mid cruise, but with COVID, I believe that they are coming on ships for a few weeks at a time and then moving on to another ship. These artists generally perform with the live orchestra in the main theater. Shows are about 45 minutes. The final category are the house bands and performers that might perform poolside or in the smaller venues or provide the dance music for the parties. While the production shows and house bands were the same entertainers featured during my Nov/Dec 2021 cruise, the guest specialty acts were completely different.

There were several outstanding female vocalists in the production cast but the blonde who sang “Sound of Silence” stood out to me most. I also enjoyed the dancers airialist and acrobats. That acts never get old to me.

They had two house bands, one which specialized in ballroom rhythms for standard and traditional songs. Guests who are ballroom dancers can now find a time set aside just for them every evening with live ballroom music. Several guitar and vocal soloists and duos also performed in the lounges as well as a classical violin and guitar duo performed quite often in the ensemble lounge.

My favorite act had to be Icelandic Violinist and vocalist Greta Solome. She represented Iceland in the real Eurovision song contest but was also somehow involved in the music for the Will Ferrel comedy Eurovision the Story of Fire Saga. She even sang the Oscar nominated song Husivik My Hometown during the show.

My next favorite act was the Shamrock Tenors from Belfast, Northern Ireland who sang a great variety of traditional and popular Irish songs. They really made their sets fun with humorous lyrics and infectious energy. Finally, rounding out the list of guests were a musical comedian and David Tan a classical piano player who played movie themes. He and Greta even gave an assist to the Shamrock Tenors who are normally 4 strong but had a member that had to quarantine in Miami due to a COVID exposure. They said he’d be back soon, but the help from Greta and David was quite endearing and we got to see more of their talent as well. That enthusiastic collaboration between artists is one of the things we have loved about the entertainment on Celebrity. They even collaborated on an encore performance in the atrium on the last night of the cruise.

The final entertainer I enjoyed in the theatre was a master of the Zylosynth instrument. Very fun and entertaining.

Debuted in October 2021, Rotterdam welcomes up to 2,668 guests. The name hearkens back to the line's founding in the late 19th century, when its first ship, Rotterdam, sailed from the Netherlands to New York. Though the ship's name is rooted in the cruise line's past, its amenities are anything but antiquated.

Among Rotterdam's standout facilities is World Stage, a performance venue that features a two-story, 270-degree wraparound LED screen that creates a panorama of light and sound for audience members. For more entertainment, passengers can catch a performance at any of the ship's numerous music venues, including the Rolling Stone Rock Room and B.B. King's Blues Club.

When travelers aren't grooving to live tunes, they can test their luck at the onboard casino or relax at the spa. Meanwhile, kids can play the day away at the Kids Club. Foodies will be pleased to hear the ship offers eight dining options, including Rudi's Sel de Mer, a French brasserie, and Tamarind, which highlights the culinary traditions of Southeast Asia, China and Japan.

Cabins range in size from 143 square feet to 1,290 square feet, with some of the luxury suites boasting floor-to-ceiling windows, whirlpool baths and verandas with hot tubs.

Sailings aboard Rotterdam depart from ports like Fort Lauderdale, Florida , and Amsterdam to destinations in the Caribbean, Europe and the Panama Canal.

U.S. News Insider Tip: The art collection aboard Rotterdam is valued at more than $4.1 million and has 2,645 pieces of diverse works ranging in value from $500 to $620,000. Take some time to walk around the ship to explore the collections. Each of the three stairwells has a theme that reaches from top to bottom: architecture, music or zoology. – Jill Schildhouse, Contributor

Celebrity Apex

The Celebrity Apex – which made its inaugural sailing in June 2021 – can hold up to 2,910 passengers and 1,320 crew members. Guests can wine and dine at 29 restaurants, bars and lounges, then spend the night testing their luck at the casino or enjoying live music at the Magic Carpet (which offers great ocean views). Specialty restaurants include a steakhouse and a raw bar, while main dining options feature Mediterranean, Italian and French cuisines. There are also meeting spaces and multipurpose areas on board, as well as upscale shops.

Visit the spa or adults-only Solarium pool to stay relaxed throughout your stay at sea. For younger travelers, there are some kid-friendly areas of the ship – such as a Camp at Sea. However, the ship is geared more toward adult clientele (or families with older children) looking for a relaxing escape.

The ship's staterooms, which start at 181 square feet, offer smart TVs, customizable air conditioning and plenty of storage space. Many rooms also offer private verandas. If you're willing to splurge, consider booking a room in The Retreat. This exclusive section of the ship features luxury accommodations as well as access to a private restaurant, sun deck and lounge. Plus, rooms in The Retreat offer more space, measuring up to 1,892 square feet.

The Celebrity Apex sails to European destinations like Greece, Italy, Croatia and Portugal, as well as to Caribbean hot spots like St. Thomas , Puerto Rico , Belize and Grand Cayman .

Seven Seas Splendor

Debuted in September 2021, the 746-passenger, 548-crew member Seven Seas Splendor is the newest ship within the Regent fleet. Seven Seas Splendor – along with most of the line's other ships – takes opulence to the next level by equipping each suite with its own private balcony. Other standard in-room amenities include interactive flat-screen TVs, luxurious bath products, bathrobes and slippers, signature queen-size beds and dining tables for two. There are 10 suite categories available, ranging from the smallest Veranda (307 square feet) and Deluxe Veranda suites (308 to 361 square feet) to the largest Regent (4,443 square feet) and Master suites (1,895 to 2,108 square feet).

Guests have a wide array of things to do while on board. Spend your days relaxing at the spa, playing paddle tennis or bocce ball, working up a sweat on the jogging track or taking a dip in the ship's two whirlpools and two pools, one of which is an infinity-edge pool that stretches along the edge of the ship, providing swimmers with exceptional views of the ocean. At night, enjoy one of five shows at the onboard theater.

When it comes to food, Seven Seas Splendor offers eight eateries ranging from casual to fine dining. Enjoy your breakfast alfresco at La Veranda and grub down for lunch at the Pool Grill buffet. For something more formal, opt for a French-inspired meal at Chartreuse, Pan-Asian dishes at Pacific Rim or Compass Rose, the largest restaurant on the ship.

Seven Seas Splendor visits a variety of European and Mediterranean destinations, as well as ports across Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and South America.

Debuted in May 2023, Oceania Cruises' first new ship in more than a decade can hold up to 1,200 passengers and 800 crew members. Vista is the inaugural ship in Oceania's Allura Class, featuring top-of-the-line amenities like a culinary center, an artist loft and an extensive library, along with facilities like a pool, a casino, a spa and a fitness center. Additionally, Vista offers enrichment opportunities like destination-focused seminars led by guest speakers and dynamic musical performances.

One of the highlights of Oceania Vista is its wide array of dining venues, from specialty restaurants like Ember (American fare) and Toscana (Italian cuisine) to the poolside Waves Grill and daily afternoon tea service. In the evening, guests can grab a drink at their choice of several bars and lounges; Vista's immersive mixology program utilizes innovative techniques and trends to create an elevated cocktail experience.

Vista's well-appointed staterooms – which range from 240 to 2,400 square feet – boast balconies, queen-size beds, rainforest showers, flat-screen TVs and 24-hour room service, among other amenities. If you splurge for a suite, you'll enjoy added benefits like iPads, cashmere blankets, complimentary laundry and shoeshine services, access to the Executive Lounge and butler service.

Oceania Vista explores an array of popular destinations in the U.S., the Caribbean, Mexico, the Mediterranean and more.

U.S. News Insider Tip:  The design of the Vista creates more expansive and contemporary public areas than other ships in Oceania's fleet, so even when the ship is at full capacity, it never feels crowded. Also, since it is an all-veranda ship, all guests have the same great ocean view. – Julie L. Kessler, Contributor

Disney Magic

The 2,713-passenger Disney Magic is the oldest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet (it first launched in 1998). It was last refurbished in May 2023, when it received updates like a "Soul"-themed lounge, concierge-level upgrades and a new "Encanto" live show. The ship also features family favorites such as the AquaDuck waterslide, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique dress-up shop and Edge, an interactive game center for tweens.

Disney Magic features diverse entertainment, including live shows, an open-air Wide World of Sports deck, three pools and a splash area for children younger than 3. Unique to the Magic is the teens-only Chill Spa. When it comes to dining, the ship offers eight eateries, including an adults-only specialty restaurant and buffet options. Recent cruisers gave the food quality mixed reviews.

In terms of lodging, 70% of cabins offer ocean views or verandas. All cabins are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, sitting areas and bathrooms with separate showers and tubs. Suites include extra perks such as concierge service and media libraries. Past cruisers noted that the service on this ship is up to Disney's standards, but so is the price tag.

Disney Magic sails from Galveston, Texas ;  San Diego ;  Miami ; Fort Lauderdale, Florida ;  New Orleans ; and  San Juan, Puerto Rico . It visits destinations across the Bahamas , the Caribbean, Mexico and the Panama Canal.

U.S. News Insider Tip : Once per sailing, guests are invited to watch Tangled: The Musical in the Walt Disney Theater. This Broadway-style show retells the story of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider with three new original songs, puppets, and beautiful costumes. This show is very popular, so it's best to get to the theater about an hour before the show starts to get a good seat. Doors open 30 minutes prior to showtime. – Megan duBois, Contributor

Symphony of the Seas

The 6,680-passenger, 2,200-crew-member Symphony of the Seas set sail in 2018 and features 18 decks packed with activities.

For heart-pounding fun, travelers will find a surf simulator, an indoor ice skating rink, two 40-foot rock walls, a zip line and a 10-story slide. Meanwhile, relaxation seekers can unwind in the spa, sip cocktails made by robotic bartenders or stroll through the Central Park -inspired neighborhood.

Onboard snacks and meals are served at 20 quick-service and sit-down eateries. The Main Dining Room is where the ship's traditional, complimentary dinners are provided nightly, but specialty options like a steakhouse, a bistro and a Johnny Rockets outpost are also available. What's more, cruisers can dine at Jamie's Italian, a restaurant helmed by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

After filling up on gourmet fare, passengers can retreat to their cabins, all of which include work desks, flat-screen TVs and minibars. Odyssey of the Seas

Launched in July 2021, the Odyssey of the Seas holds 5,498 passengers and 1,550 crew members. Royal Caribbean's latest ship is the first Quantum Ultra Class vessel to sail in the United States. As a member of this class, Odyssey of the Seas offers standout amenities like RipCord by iFLY, billed as the only skydiving simulator available at sea, and the FlowRider, a 40-foot-long surf simulator. There is also the North Star observation capsule, which hoists guests 300 feet above sea level over the cruise ship to enjoy unparalleled views below.

In addition to these thrilling activities, the ship comes equipped with standard facilities like pools, an arcade, a spa, a fitness center with classes, kids clubs and shopping venues. There are also 15 dining options, ranging from Japanese fare to all-you-can-eat buffets to Starbucks. Odyssey of the Seas sails to ports in Europe, as well as to various destinations in the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Cape Liberty, New Jersey.

Launched in April 2016, Viking Sea is the second vessel in Viking's Ocean Cruises fleet. Carrying 930 passengers, the ship's small size is designed to allow direct access to smaller ports around the world.

Viking Sea's staterooms range from 270-square-foot Veranda Staterooms to the 1,448-square-foot Owner's Suite. All accommodations include balconies, flat-screen TVs, king-sized beds, complimentary Wi-Fi access and bathrooms with heated floors. Those who splurge on upgraded staterooms receive extra perks like priority reservations for excursions, spa treatments and specialty restaurants.

The ship's facilities include a fitness center, a Nordic spa (complete with a snow grotto), an outdoor gym and yoga area, a theater and a one-of-a-kind infinity pool on the stern of the ship that gives the illusion of swimming in the ocean.

When you work up an appetite, the Viking Sea offers a variety of dining options to quell your hunger. They range from casual Norwegian cuisine at Mamsen's to alfresco dining on the Aquavit Terrace. Recent passengers report a stellar onboard experience, describing the food as delicious, the ship as comfortable and the service as top-notch.

Scarlet Lady

The first ship within the Virgin Voyages fleet, the adults-only Scarlet Lady welcomes more than 2,770 passengers and 1,160 crew members. Debuted in October 2021, the Scarlet Lady boasts a collection of unique amenities not often found on cruise ships, including a tattoo studio, a record shop and a blow-dry bar. And instead of a buffet or a dining hall, the Scarlet Lady offers a collection of more than 20 specialty restaurants, all covered by the cruise fare. Standouts include Extra Virgin, a traditional Italian restaurant serving handmade pasta, and Gunbae, a Korean barbecue eatery.

The Scarlet Lady also deviates from cruise industry tradition when it comes to onboard entertainment. Instead of Broadway classics, cruisers will be treated to six original shows, along with "micro plays" that are performed throughout the ship.

Cabin sizes range from 105 to 177 square feet for the Insider rooms to nearly 2,150 square feet for the RockStar Quarters suites. The latter are outfitted with marble bathrooms and serviced by RockStar Agents who are available to assist guests 24/7. All accommodations feature mood lighting, minibars, free Wi-Fi and adjustable Seabeds, which allow travelers to transform their beds into couches when they want to entertain.

The Scarlet Lady sails to destinations in the Caribbean, like the Bahamas , from Miami .

U.S. News Insider Tip:  Use the app to book dinner reservations as far out from your sailing as you can, or 45 days out for most sailors. If you wait until closer to time or until you're on board, you will likely find that the most popular restaurants and dining times are all booked up. –  Holly Johnson, Contributor

Lifestyles Cruises

Celebrity Reflection Lifestyles Cruise ® Caribbean Takeover Cruise

Nov 13-20, 2022.

Man swiming in the Solarium Pool on-board Celebrity Equinox

Lifestyles Cruise ® announces the next exciting Bliss Cruise. Bliss Cruise has announced its next clothing-optional charter on board the Celebrity Reflection. This Seven-night cruise sets sail on November 13-20, 2022 from the Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale FL with stops in Willemstad, Curacao, Oranjestad Aruba. If you have ever been on a Lifestyles Cruise®, you will know what we are talking about here. Starting the evening before the cruise ship leaves the dock, there is a non-stop party atmosphere going on that fails to slow down until the end of the cruise. This will be a Full Ship Take Over, Clothing-Optional Lifestyles Cruise ® . As a Full Ship Takeover, this means you can be naked, or any part of naked on the pool decks, or the special Clothing-Optional excursions offered to you.

The 2022 Bliss Cruise onboard the Celebrity Reflection will feature major lifestyle nightly themes, the highest quality DJ's, an all-genre presentation of hits, live music bands, daily activities designed for couples to connect, superior educational seminars, hands-on professional workshops, poolside and rooftop special events, along with the largest full-service and expanded playrooms at sea.

This cruise might seem a long way away, but that is how we get the best ships, from the best companies, and have the entire ship with only couples that want to be on a Lifestyles Cruise®. There is just no way to charter an entire ship once they start selling cabins to vanilla couples and children. Remember we want a full ship of fun, sexy couples. We have the entire ship, no outsiders, just lifestyle-oriented couples! That's right, no screaming kids, just adult fun and entertainment nonstop for seven fun-filled days and nights.

Our past couples cruise adventures that we have sold have been a great success, with non-stop fun and have opened a new door into adult cruises. These ship-board vacations have now been fine-tuned for your enjoyment. We know exactly what customers want and need and how to make the experience exceptional. It is all about who knows how to make these memorable events that keep these ships selling out, year after year.

Launched in 2012 and last updated in January 2018, the 3,046-passenger Reflection sets itself apart with features like a top-deck Lawn Club and the Game On interactive activity center with flat-screen table games. Another highlight is the Alcoves, where guests can enjoy crowd-free cabana lounging (for an extra fee).

Celebrity pulled no punches with the Celebrity Reflection. This ship is the last of their revolutionary Solstice-Class and has some expanded features included the Reflection Suite, a 1,830 square foot space which features the Reflection shower - a cantilevered shower with glass walls allowing for 360-degree views. The ship also features an extended AquaSpa with an infrared sauna, aromatic steam room and sensory showers which use lights and sounds for an unbelievable experience. Hungry? The Celebrity Reflection is the only ship at sea with 60 dishes that are SPE Certified, meaning they are not only nutritious, but also delicious.

And with 11 restaurants and cafes, including seven specialty dining venues, passengers have plenty of choices when it comes to cuisine. As far as cabins go, 85 percent of Reflection's staterooms offer verandas, and the ship offers a wider variety of suite cabins than other Celebrity ships. All cabins come appointed with minibars and flat-screen TVs. Passengers who choose AquaClass suites receive extra perks, such as direct access to the spa and 24-hour butler service.

Recent passengers complimented the ship's layout, citing the pool areas are particularly comfortable and never overly crowded. Thanks to a 2-to-1 guest-to-crew ratio, cruisers can also expect personalized service.

THE EARLY BIRD GETS THE WORM as they say. Any couple that reserves a balcony cabin or suite in the "Early Bird Promotion" days will receive a FREE HOTEL ROOM* the night before, also enjoying a FREE Meet & Greet Party to meet and socialize with new friends. Royal Caribbean's family-friendly private island is about to get more crowded with Gen Xers

  • Celebrity Cruises will sail to Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay for the first time.
  • The cruise lines target different demographics, but the business case is solid.
  • The private island is scheduled on 47 of Celebrity's itineraries this year.

Insider Today

Royal Caribbean's family-friendly private island is about to get a bit more crowded — with Gen Xers.

On April 21, Gen X-beloved Celebrity Cruises will voyage to Royal Caribbean International's Perfect Day at CocoCay for the first time, marking the start of a Celebrity-CocoCay bonanza: The premium cruise line plans to visit the family-friendly getaway 47 more times before the end of the year.

According to Celebrity, these itineraries will both double its year-round Caribbean offerings and launch its first weekend cruises . And travelers are hyped: A handful of these sailings are halfway or close to selling out.

Fares start at about $277 per person for a three-day roundtrip cruise from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in which the Caribbean island is the only destination on the itinerary.

Travelers familiar with Celebrity and CocoCay might be scratching their heads

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity share the same parent company, Royal Caribbean Group .

For the most part, that's where their similarities end.

Royal Caribbean's private island is a tropical dream for cruising families dotted with sprawling beaches, clubs, a zipline, and a waterpark. The private destination is colorful, loud, kid-friendly, and generally the antithesis of what travelers might find on Celebrity's ships.

Celebrity's stylish vessels do offer children and teen programming. But if you want the exciting water slides, fun rides, and rock climbing walls of the popular mass-market ships, you're better off looking elsewhere.

Compared to Royal Caribbean's ships, Celebrity is best if you want to be on a premium, trendy, and more subdued cruise.

Related stories

If it's not obvious, the two brands are vying for different guests. Royal Caribbean goes after multi-generational families, while Celebrity's target demographic is Gen Xers, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, the then-CEO of Celebrity Cruises, told Business Insider in 2021.

Celebrity sails to 300 ports on all seven continents — why this sudden push for the private Caribbean island?

In short, cruisers love Celebrity's upcoming Caribbean destination .

Last year, Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, told analysts that CocoCay had seen robust demand, including from repeat travelers.

About two-thirds of Royal Caribbean's Caribbean-bound guests will stop at CocoCay this year. And most of them aren't complaining: "The vast majority of people love the islands," Patrick Scholes, a lodging and leisure research analyst at Truist Securities, told Business Insider in March.

But for the two brands' parent company, there are more benefits to private island cruising besides guest satisfaction.

CocoCay is one night's sailing from Florida's major cruise ports, reducing the visiting ships' fuel consumption and costs.

More importantly, these private destinations keep more profits in-house.

A day pass to CocoCay's waterpark can exceed $100 per person. Entry to the recently opened Hideaway Beach costs up to $89 per person. Nearby, an afternoon at the more luxurious Coco Beach Club could be shy of triple that cost.

Even the complimentary parts of the island have splurge-enticing amenities like rentable cabanas and snorkeling gear. And because there's no need to rely on other excursion operators, Celebrity's parent company gets to pocket more profits.

Most of Celebrity's 2024 cruises to CocoCay will be on two of its largest ships: the 3,849-guest Celebrity Beyond and 3,480-guest Celebrity Reflection. That's plenty of guests ready to spend big on the popular private island.

But that doesn't mean Celebrity cruisers will be fighting kids for beach chairs

It is possible to escape the hoards of families at Perfect Day at CocoCay. For example, the new Hideaway Beach is rowdy, boozy, and thankfully adult-only.

While not kid-free, on the other side of the island, the Oasis Lagoon pool has become the de facto hot spot for afternoon ragers "packed with intoxicated people having a really good time" on one end, and children on the other end, Bayley told reporters in late January.

If nothing else, at least there won't be any kids drinking at the island's more than 10 bars.

I know it would just be an educated guess, but do you think Celebrity will be sailing at full capacity in June 2022 for European cruises? We are booked on Ireland/Iceland in June 2022 and it hard to tell from their website.

You can start by telling us what do YOU think??

I believe that 2022 should be fine, but who knows what happens.

At some point the cruise lines will run out of capitol or credit and go into bankruptcy, if they can't generate revenue.

Of not then, then when? They can’t hold out forever..

I hope that cruise will sail as planned, since we’re also booked on it. Like most people on our roll call, it’s our second if not third attempt to do that cruise.

It would really be thoughtful for the virus, to finally take a break and give us a bit of warning, when it plans to do so!

I think we need to unionize the damn virus, it will get plenty of breaks, sick days, vacations and a fabulous pension plan and health benefits, heck, at this point I'd be happy to pay for all of that (did I just say that) and can retire very comfortably.  Bye COVID, retire comfortably, please!

If it goes, pack well.  Ireland/Iceland May 2018... 🥶

Or...the virus could take another route....prison!  No benefits to pay, isolation for bad behaviour.

ScubesDad

We are also booked on the same cruise, and are currently feeling it has about a 50% chance of sailing in a format we would be able to accept.  We are sure it will sail, just not sure what conditions will be in place. We have previously done this trip, and enjoyed both Ireland and Iceland.  We are building a plan "B" which will be a direct trip to Iceland, and then touring the island on our own for 2 - 3 weeks.  "Surprisingly" under the new AI scheme (in a Sky Suite) we can vacation longer at a lower daily cost without compromising the travel experience.

Pickels

We are hoping and planning for a Caribbean cruise in the March/April time-frame [2022].  We love the warm weather.  Forgot about this year and hoping that things will get back to some sort of "normal" for 2022.

bluecruisin

Praying we will be able to sail on our 4/22 T/A on the reflection. This years was cancelled, sad face!

30,000+ Club

We did their Ireland, Iceland & Sweden itinerary in May 2018...too bad their not including Sweden on this itinerary...it was amazing !!!

NMTraveller

I would say yes.

I think the bigger question is what restrictions and requirements will there be?

My Christmas Windstar 2021 cruise has a proof of vax requirement and a 72 hour PCR test and a PCR test before you board.

It was a tough decision, but we are moving on from our January 2022 cruise. We decided to rent a villa on the beach in the Caribbean instead. We decided to make it a family affair, so we told our two adult kids and their significant others, "we'll pay for the villa and you pay for anything else". Everyone is onboard.

Love it!  Me and my partner did something similar.  Rented a house on the beach for the month of June in Provincetown on the Cape.  Told my kids and their spouses, my ex and her BF, open invite, don't ask just show up if you want to come down.  We got the house, all other $ are on you.  Really looking forward to it.

I bet that cruises will be close to full or full and activities close to or at a formerly active level.  But, all bets are off as to WHICH sailings sail.  Still too close to the meat of the pandemic.  So many things will change when we reach a steady state on the other side of this thing.  I think that the dynamics of which sailings are likely to be booked and likely to be executed will change, and that is just hard to predict now.  We will have to go with the flow in a lot of things in our society for a while until a reliable new pattern emerges.  So, from a cruise point of view, we are going to have to absorb a lot of unpredictability for a while even after the medical threat subsides.

At this point, it's still difficult to predict itineraries.  But there are some signs which show a little direction.  For example, Celebrity announcing new 2021 sailings to St. Maarten and to Greece/Israel.  Certain countries appear open to allowing cruises to resume while others don't...and that would be the sign of what to expect for the remainder of 2021...

However, looking to 2022, I think it's more important not to look at the cruise lines' actions, but to the Pandemic itself...and the numbers.  Vaccines are now out there.  Obviously, some countries (even some states) have been better at slowing the pandemic AND, even more importantly, at getting people vaccinated.  With a little chauvinism attached, admittedly, I look at the California numbers.  We are now down to less than 2,000 new cases a day...and under 10 deaths a day...and that is in a state with a population of over 40 million.  And we've already had over 17.5 million doses administered.  Obviously, most countries in the world are nowhere close to that yet...However...

...As vaccine availability rapidly increases...and the newer types of vaccines require less refrigeration and doses--making them more applicable to a lot of countries in the world where refrigeration and other needs are more difficult, I believe we will start seeing those Covid numbers decreasing rapidly everywhere (while, of course, at the same time, we need to keep aware of new strains and hope existing vaccines can apply or that we can keep ahead of such strains)...

So, the real guesswork here is in assessing the path of the "curve"...and countries and parts of the world where the curve is decreasing the fastest...and just how fast that curve is heading toward zero...I MIGHT be somewhat more optimistic than some.  I have seen predictions all over the place, even in the scientific community (and those are the ONLY "predictions" I tend to put stock in).  I do think many of the slower predictions are being overly conservative--dealing in caution...for good reasons, of course...but even those people WANT to be wrong.  IMHO, I think we'll be able to cruise "just like the old days"--or, at least, reasonably close to it--by some time in spring/summer 2022 in MOST parts of the world...

In the meanwhile, we do have signs...and announced cruises...and pandemic data...to predict many of the earlier workable itineraries.  Another concern, BTW, was how soon the cruise lines could get sufficient crew vaccinated, and that will probably disappear a lot quicker than most thought just a few weeks ago due to the increasing supply of vaccine...

That is our plan B as well if our 7 day Nov 2021 Caribbean sailing on the Edge is a “no go”. We will take the cash refund and rent a villa in St Thomas and invite grown son & spouse and brother & SIL.

Our cruise was one of the first cancelled last March and the itinerary has either been changed or cancelled 4x.

We’d love to sail on the Edge in our S2 suite - a first for both, but if it doesn’t go - we will be going with plan B.

I looked at air fair to Jamaica and the price was right. With the CDC still saying cruises out of the US will not happen until November, I just decided to go for it. Another factor was a direct flight from Minneapolis to Jamaica, I have never had that before. BUT, now I am hearing that airlines are playing games by putting up multiple fights for the same route and then later consolidating them. Who knows, we'll just have to wait and see.

Insider’s Guide to Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter

By Kerry Spencer

Last updated: April 16th, 2024

Barcelona Gothic Quarter - Carrer del Bisbe

  • Find a Cruise

Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, known locally as Barri Gòtic, exudes charisma and is crammed with two millennia of history, including remnants of the city’s Roman past. Bordered by La Rambla, Plaça de Catalunya, the waterfront promenade, and Via Laietana, this buzzy central district is one of the best places to explore in Barcelona.

Crisscrossing cobblestone lanes, sun-dappled squares, and splendid churches fill this fine neighborhood. The Gothic Quarter is also bursting with tapas bars, coffee shops, and xocolaterias , which specialize in dense hot chocolate and fluffy churros.

Whether your passion is gastronomy or history, or you simply prefer to soak it all up in a vibrant square, here’s everything you need to know about exploring the Gothic Quarter.

Attractions in the Gothic Quarter

Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya

Exterior of Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya

Barcelona Gothic Quarter’s Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya is no ordinary government building. It’s one of the longest-serving government buildings in Europe, having been the seat of the Government of Catalonia since the 1400s.

The stone facade on Plaça de Sant Jaume features a pleasing symmetrical design, with an elegant central balcony, shuttered windows, and a series of gargoyles set around the top of two pillars.

Inside, the late Gothic main courtyard features a galleried upper floor crowned with 26 striking gargoyles. There’s also the Courtyard of the Orange Trees on the second floor, filled with fragrant citrus trees.

The first floor St. George Hall, designed as the building’s new chapel in the early 1600s, is a triumph, with three naves, a marble floor, and pillars supporting vaulted frescoed ceilings.

Barcelona Gothic Quarter - Carrer del Bisbe

Carrer del Bisbe

Admire this glorious building from the plaza outside, or any other surrounding streets, including Carrer de la Ciutat and Carrer del Bisbe. Carrer de Bisbe is the location of a small, but extraordinary marble bridge that is synonymous with the Gothic Quarter. El Pont del Bisbe joins Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya with the Casa dels Canonges and is a fantastic piece of Gothic architecture and a real treasure of Barcelona’s old quarter.

Roman Necropolis in Plaça de la Vila de Madrid

Roman Necropolis in Plaça de la Vila de Madrid

Roman Necropolis, Plaça de la Vila de Madrid

The Roman Necropolis is one of Barcelona’s most revered archaeological sites, containing the remains of 95 tombs, 2,000 years old, from the period of the Roman colonia (colony).

The open site is outside the Roman wall in the center of Plaça de la Vila de Madrid, since burials were prohibited inside the Spanish city during the Roman period.

The site was conserved for centuries, a convent built here in 1588, although this was heavily damaged during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). This led to the formation of the square and the discovery of the necropolis in the 1950s, with the site further excavated between 2000 and 2003.

Stroll around the tombs, which are part of a secondary burial site that was reserved for the lower and middle class. Visit the Interpretation Center to view objects found at the site and to learn more about Barcelona—or Bàrcino as it was then known—during the Roman period, including a fascinating window into the rituals and funeral beliefs of the period.

Plaça del Rei & Reial Major Palace

Barcelona Gothic Quarter - Plaça del Rei

Plaça del Rei

This 14th-century public square is surrounded by the Palau Reial Major, a former royal residence of the counts of Barcelona and kings of Aragon.

The Royal Palace comprises three buildings, the Salón de Tinell, a former throne room, with its rounded grand arches; Santa Ágata chapel; and the Lloctinent Palace, added in the 16th century for the king of Spain .

Exterior of Reial Major Palace

Reial Major Palace

Stop by the lesser-known Museu Frederic Marès inside the Royal Palace to see its impressive collection of sculptures, including statues from the pre-Roman period. Roam more of Reial Major Palace’s grounds to see fragments of the former Roman wall and marvel at the late Gothic and early Renaissance architecture of Lloctinent Palace.

Inside Santa Ágata Chapel, check out the spectacular 15th-century altarpiece by Jaume Huguet and reach the soaring octagonal tower via the staircase found inside a small room next to the chapel’s altar.

The Great Synagogue of Barcelona

Moments from St. James’s Square, in the El Call district (the Catalan name for the Jewish Quarter), the Great Synagogue of Barcelona is one of the oldest in Europe, constructed in the third and fourth centuries.

The remains of the synagogue are nestled in some of the Gothic Quarter’s narrowest streets that were once the center of Barcelona’s Jewish community.

Rediscovered in the late 20th century, the Great Synagogue of Barcelona is now an archaeological site consisting of a two-room museum that also holds private ceremonies such as bar mitzvahs and bat mitzvahs.

Join a guided tour of the synagogue and excavation site to learn more about the building and the rich Jewish heritage of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter.

Plaça de Sant Felip Neri

Street view of Plaça de Sant Felip Neri

This tucked-away plaça is named after the historic Church of Saint Philip Neri that looms over the square.

An octagonal fountain is in the center of the square, while tall trees and buildings offer plenty of shade. There’s a lovely restaurant and a single shop selling fragrant handmade soaps on one corner.

Built in the 1700s, the square’s baroque church bears the scars of the Spanish Civil War following a siege that took place on January 30, 1938. This Spanish church was commandeered for military use during the war and was subsequently bombarded by Franco’s military from the air. The impact of an explosion is visible across the entire lower front facade of the church.

Visit today and you’ll find Plaça de Sant Felip Neri, one of the most peaceful spots in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter. Step inside the church then enjoy a quiet drink or bite to eat at the restaurant as you soak in this beautiful setting.

Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi

Exterior of Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi

Not to be outdone by Barcelona Cathedral, the 14th-century Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi is another masterpiece of religious architecture.

Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi features wonderful stained-glass windows and an elegant glass rose, creating shafts of exquisite light that bathe the church’s single nave.

Opt for a guided tour to explore the bell tower, garden, and crypt, followed by a visit to the Spanish museum , with its collection of Catalan gold and silver.

Things to Do in the Gothic Quarter

Shop for souvenirs.

Street view of Gothic Quarter

Gothic Quarter

If your favorite vacation pastime is shopping for souvenirs, you’ll adore Barcelona’s labyrinthine Gothic Quarter. This is one of the best places to go shopping in Barcelona as there are boutiques, galleries, gourmet shops, and specialist stores selling everything from books and antiques to mouthwatering Iberico ham.

Make a pilgrimage to La Manual Alpargatera, the place to buy gorgeous handmade espadrilles on vibrant Carrer Avinyó, one of the best shopping streets in the Gothic Quarter. Sombrerería Obach is a hat atelier specializing in an array of made-to-measure and off-the-shelf creations, from straw hats to berets.

Antiques at a market in Barcelona

The narrow Baixada de Santa Eulàlia is a wonderful strip for one-of-a-kind Spanish souvenirs , with a perfumery, antique stores, jewelry, and vintage boutiques.

Browse the boutiques of Carrer del Pi and pick up gourmet goods from the time capsule Xarcuteria La Pineda for all of your cheese and charcuterie needs. Just next door, Xocolates Fargas is the place to pick up sublime confectionery. Just across the street is La Nostra Ciutat, a delightful spot for colorful illustrations of Barcelona and other artisan pieces—homeware, jewelry, and postcards—by local artists.

Take the Elevator to the Top of Barcelona Cathedral

View from Barcelona Cathedral

Barcelona Cathedral

Barcelona Cathedral is Barri Gòtic’s star attraction. Built between the 13th and 15th centuries on the site of a Roman temple and paleo-Christian church, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, to give it its full name, is known for its extraordinary gothic facade.

Fanciful features include a tall, elaborate spire, two smaller spires, and two bell towers. The sensational facade was added much later, in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Inside, there’s a vaulted ceiling, five aisles, two chapels, and a raised high altar with a view into the crypt, a sacred spot where the body of St. Eulalia is interred.

Beautiful exterior of Barcelona Cathedral

The cathedral’s beautiful cloister, accessed via a Romanesque white marble door, is a tranquil space with palm trees, magnolias, an orange tree, and a fountain. There’s a pond here, too, home to the cathedral’s 13 white geese in honor of St. Eulalia, a martyr who was killed during the persecution of Christians when she was just 13 years old.

Once you’ve explored every inch of the interior, take the elevator to the cathedral’s rooftop for some of the best views in Barcelona . Here, you’ll be greeted by dazzling views of the cloister and the Gothic Quarter’s toothpick-thin alleyways from above.

Trace Roman Relics

Family inside the Barcelona History Museum in Barcelona Gothic Quarter

Barcelona History Museum

As well as the Roman necropolis, a smattering of other Roman remnants can be found in Barcelona’s  Gothic Quarter, the center of ancient Barcino.

The best place to start is at the Barcelona History Museum. Located next to the cathedral, the museum lies in an extraordinary medieval building on the site of a former Roman factory and workshop. Inside, there’s a vast collection of artifacts to browse.

Remains of Temple of Augustus

Temple of Augustus

Moments from Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya and Barcelona Cathedral, on Carrer del Paradís, is the remains of the Temple of Augustus, including four 30-foot Corinthian columns inside the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya. Once part of Barcelona’s Temple of Augustus, dedicated to Emperor Augustus, the columns date from the first century B.C.

There’s more, including the arches of Roman aqueducts, towers, and walls on Plaça Nova, Carrer de la Palla, Plaça de Ramon Berenguer, and Carrer del Correu Vell.

Relax in Plaça Reial

Plaça Reial in Barcelona Gothic Quarter

Plaça Reial

Just off La Rambla, Plaça Reial is one of Spain’s great squares. A wide-open space dotted with tall palm trees, Plaça Reial is lined with restaurants and nightclubs. Tables flow onto the stone square, including La Gallega Tobogán and Expat Cafè.

If you have at least three days in Barcelona , take time to relax in Plaça Reial. Graze on tapas and enjoy a glass of effervescent Cava or a chilled cerveza as you people-watch in this royal plaça.

Check out the ornate lamp posts on Plaça Reial, which were designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, famed for designing the city’s La Sagrada Familia.

Opened in 1897, Els Quatre Gats, or the Four Cats, is a Gothic Quarter institution, based on Paris’ famed Le Chat Noir cabaret venue.

The Four Cats has appeared in a Hollywood movie and was the location of Pablo Picasso’s first exhibition in 1899, and remains one of Barcelona’s most storied restaurants.

Dine on a selection of marinated anchovies with sherry and apple cider vinegar, acorn-fed Iberian ham, fried baby squid, and cod croquettes in either the more casual gastro-bar or restaurant.

Les Quinze Nits

Food from Les Quinze Nits

On a convivial corner of Plaça Reial, with tables lining the outdoor terrace, Les Quinze Nits is one of the best people-watching restaurants in Barcelona.

This fantastic spot for food in Barcelona is perfect for ordering a selection of dishes for the table along with carafes of sangria. Savor dishes such as baby octopus, crispy aubergine, and tomato-rubbed coca bread (a style of Catalan flatbread).

There’s a plant-heavy appetizer section, a paella menu with vegan, seafood, and meat choices, and mouthwatering main courses, such as the white-bean hummus and monkfish stew with clams and potatoes.

This Barcelona bistro is a romantic spot for a relaxed lunch. Enjoy a glass of crisp rose cava on the restaurant’s Plaça dels Traginers terrace, facing the Roman city walls, as you browse a menu of salads, appetizers, fish, and meat.

The fish selection is a highlight, including swordfish carpaccio and grilled squid with white beans. Don’t skip on the rocket with pear, Iberico ham and buffalo mozzarella salad and the sublime pumpkin and sweet potato soup with mascarpone and crispy ham.

There aren’t many vegetarian choices, though the eggplant terrine with a goat’s cheese gratin is a tasty option.

Bodega Biarritz 1881 Tapas Bar

Tapas in Barcelona

For an outstanding menu of tapas in a charming setting, the intimate Bodega Biarritz 1881 on Carrer Nou de Sant Francesc is a standout Gothic Quarter restaurant.

Sit at the bar or choose a table to savor dishes of roast tomato tarte tatin, garlic shrimp, Iberian ham in puff pastry, and smoked chorizo with steamed apples.

Typically open from 1pm until late, Bodega Biarritz 1881 is a no-reservation restaurant with a warm, rustic vibe.

Travel Tips

Getting around.

This compact quarter of Barcelona is easy to cover on foot. It’s possible to visit all of the major attractions here and still have time to shop and relax over a meal or drink in a sun-drenched square.

Best Time to Travel

Plaça Reial in Barcelona Gothic Quarter

Expect pleasant temperatures in Barcelona Gothic Quarter during spring and fall in Spain , with lows of around 60°F and highs of 73°F. If you’re visiting during summertime, the city’s peak season, expect highs of around 85°F. Though there is plenty of shade in the Gothic Quarter, wear SPF and carry water to remain hydrated.

The Gothic Quarter is one of Barcelona’s most popular neighborhoods and can therefore get busy during peak season. Opt for an early visit to beat the crowds.

Currency & Tipping

The currency of Spain is the Euro. Cards are accepted all over Barcelona but if you want to pay with cash, there are plenty of ATMs.

Tip around 10 percent in Barcelona for good service in restaurants, but do check first to see if service is included.
