Paying deference to 50 years in business, Carnival Celebration’s godmother is actress and model Cassidy Gifford, the daughter of Kathie Lee Gifford who had been a spokesperson for the line for decades and even christened the new ship’s namesake, the M/S Celebration, back in 1987.

Coming in at 180,800 gross tons that can sail with 6,631 guests at full capacity, the new version is nearly four times the size of the original, which was just over 47,000 gross tons and could hold about 1,500 passengers.

The Carnival Celebration was christened by godmother Cassidy Gifford, daughter of longtime Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson Kathie Lee Gifford, in a ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022 on board while docked at PortMiami's revamped Cruise Terminal F ahead of its first sailing.

Both mother and daughter were on hand along with chef Emeril Lagasse, artist Romero Britto and Carnival Cruise Line executives for the Sunday evening celebration at Miami’s upgraded Cruise Terminal F that culminated with a concert by Kool & the Gang, the obvious choice for entertainment with their hit “Celebration.”

“Cassidy has literally grown up on Carnival cruise ships and played obviously a huge role in her life taking cruises from a young age,” said Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy during the ceremony on board showing images of Cassidy as a little girl held by Kathie Lee in the 1990s. “She even had some cameos in commercials and ads during the 20 years the Kathie Lee served as our spokesperson.”

With the towering LED displays within Celebration’s three-deck tall atrium Celebration Central, Cassidy pulled the symbolic lever built into a 50th birthday cake to let loose a massive bottle of champagne crashing into the vessel’s hull amid the torrent that dropped throughout South Florida on Sunday.

“In observance of the ancient and sacred traditions of the sea, I hereby name this ship the Carnival Celebration,” Cassidy said. “May good fortune shine on all who work and sail on her and may she always have smooth seas and a following wind wherever she may sail.”

Kathie Lee then joined in a performance of throwback Carnival commercial tune, “If You Could See Me Now.”

Duffy said the rain has been following the ship around since the line took possession of it from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.

She cheekily apologized to around 200 passengers who had already traveled on the ship’s 14-night maiden voyage from Southampton, England who departed under rainy conditions, and are among Monday’s sold-out sailing for the ship’s first Caribbean cruise.

“When I left them in Southampton, the weather was a little bit like it was here today, and I left them saying, ‘Don’t worry. You’re coming to the Sunshine State,” Duffy said. “Just wait for tomorrow.”

Miami saw more than 3 inches throughout Sunday nearly tripling the previous record for the date and causing flooding in some parts of South Florida.

A sister ship to Carnival’s Mardi Gras that debut at Port Canaveral last summer, Celebration also runs on liquified natural gas, and becomes the first LNG-powered cruise ship to call PortMiami home. LNG is one of several new fuel alternatives to traditional diesel that cruise lines are adopting to reduce emissions. Disney Cruise Line’s new ship Disney Wish also runs on LNG.

Celebration makes its debut sailing with passengers Monday and is set to offer year-round alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.

Ahead of the christening, cruise and government officials held another ribbon cutting for the revamped terminal, touting its environmental impact as well, as it aims to be able to provide shore-based energy to the cruise ships instead of the ships using their fuel while docked.

“You created the moral imperative to move forward and all the other major cruise companies signed on the dotted line, and working together with FPL, in 2023 PortMiami will be shore-powered-ready and Terminal F here will be among the first to provide that ship-to-shore connection,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “You are truly leading the way. … So we salute you for everything you do to reduce our carbon emissions and make us more sustainable.”

The massive 471,000-square-foot, three-level terminal is the largest in Florida and had been outfitted to use facial recognition technology to assist in speedier boarding. It becomes the primary home to five of Carnival’s 24-ship fleet, and it’s expected to see 20,000 passengers embark per week.

“My grandfather’s motto was get money, do good and have fun,” Levine Cava said. “I think we’re reflected right here.”

Several 10-by-5-foot LED screens are seen during a ceremony on board the Carnival Celebration, which was christened Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022 while docked at PortMiami's revamped Cruise Terminal F ahead of its first sailing.

As for the new ship, it’s the second of three Excel-class vessels for Carnival, and has a lot in common with Mardi Gras including the top-deck roller coaster called BOLT , which sends riders sitting on 800-foot-long track that winds around the aft of the ship using a two-seat, motorcycle-esque car on 20-second thrill rides that can go up to 35 mph.

The ship is carved up into six neighborhoods similar to how Royal Caribbean partitions its massive Oasis-class vessels. Three of Celebration’s six neighborhoods are new to the ship — The Gateway, Celebration Central and 820 Biscayne — while Mardi Gras and Celebration share essentially mirror neighborhoods called The Ultimate Playground (including BOLT), Summer Landing and Lido.

Both ships have their own version of Emeril’s Bistro, WaterWorks aqua park, SportSquare area with mini-golf, ropes course and basketball court, Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse, Alchemy Bar, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, a two-level RedFrog Tiki Bar, Shaquille O’Neal’s Big Chicken restaurant, Guy’s Burger Joint, Seafood Shack, and BlueIguana Cantina among other spaces.

The Gateway Atlas that shows were every Carnival Cruise Line ship is in the world is seen during a ceremony on board the Carnival Celebration, which was christened Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022 while docked at PortMiami's revamped Cruise Terminal F ahead of its first sailing.

Some of Celebration’s unique offerings include the Golden Jubilee bar that pays homage to Carnival’s history since its founding in 1972; the Latitudes bar that features a modern take on historic departure boards like those you might see at train stations; the Gateway Atlas, a high-definition display that shows the location of all Carnival ships around the world in real time; and virtual windows along the promenade with a dozen 10-foot-by-5-foot displays along the way as well as an LED-lit ceiling 100 feet up that will be paired at times with show lighting and sounds.

A brass engine order telegraph near the Golden Jubilee bar is seen during a ceremony on board the Carnival Celebration, which was christened Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022 while docked at PortMiami's revamped Cruise Terminal F ahead of its first sailing.

At the naming ceremony, everyone seemed to need to get their hands on the engine order telegraph with its commands like “dead slow” and “full.”

These new features give the ship a much more detailed feel than Mardi Gras with visual delights around every corner, and should please any cruiser with a history of sailing on Carnival over the last five decades.

“This is our special, magnificent new flagship,” Duffy said. “This ship embodies the pride, the hope, the perseverance and excitement for our future on so many levels … the work that we did to be back, and back in a big way, and this really does culminate 50 years of Carnival Cruise Line.”

The cruise itself was fantastic minus the hiccup the ship faced because of the weather. Ship hit the dock in Jamaica and the Magic had to sail back out to sea leaving many of us on shore. Carnival communicated what was going on and provided those who were still on shore accommodations. Can't the say the same for those who were on excursions. Heard some horror stories about their adventures. Either way, I personally had a good experience with Carnival during that time frame. My issue was debarking. Yes, it's a chaotic time for all when 5000+ people have to debark a ship at the same time. Few days prior, my guests and I booked a shuttle from the Miami Port to the airport. We get in line, and informed guest services we never received tickets. After about twenty minutes of figuring that out, they let us on a shuttle without our ticket. (We have proof from our portfolio that the shuttle was purchased). The drive from the port to airport was scarier than being left behind in foreign country. That driver maybe used his turn signal a total of 5 times. Stop signs? What's that? On the freeway, he almost hit 3 cars. I'll give the cruise, the staff on the cruise and that experience a 5 star. Off the ship and that experience, I'd give them 2 stars.

Worst vacation experience to date. Let me preface this by saying, this is my 4th carnival cruise and I came back to Carnival after a poor experience with Royal. But this by far takes the cake as worst vacation I've experienced.. it Started Tuesday (Second day, at sea) on the main pool deck when my daughter came up to me and told me another girl was giving her the middle finger. So I approached the mother and let her know what her daughter was going, she attempted to turn it back onto my daughter asking what she did to deserve it. I said she's 9, Theres nothing she could've done worthy to be flicked off. I walked away and let it be for about 2 hours until my daughter came up to me again and told me this same girl had now hit her on the leg because she was floating close to her. I went back to the mother again to address it, as soon as I said something she blew up and turned manic. So I attempted to turn around and find security because clearly she wasn't handling this like a civil adult, by the time I turned around she was now yelling at MY child. My fiancé came down to defend her and that's when this lady began assaulting my fiance. I was looking around for security this whole time, to no avail. So then I stepped between them in an attempt to be a physical barrier, I was then hit multiple times in the face before I decided I needed to restrain her because no one was helping me. So now they're charging both me and my fiance 500$ a piece for the dispute, as well as they canceled my alcohol pass after one drink and attempted to charge me for the full drinking pass. I had to raise hell with guest services just to get that back. The cherry on top was them stopping us before we debarked, pulling us out of line and then telling us we're no longer welcome on any future carnival cruises. The embarkation and debarkation are a an absolute mess. 8 lines available for passengers with passports and 1 for people using birth certificate. Began the process at 7:30am and didn't get out until 10:30am.

I recently embarked on my first ever cruise with Carnival Cruise Line aboard the Sunrise Ship, and I feel compelled to share my feedback about this experience. Unfortunately, my overall impression of the cruise was quite underwhelming, and I have several concerns that I would like to address. Firstly, the spa services on the ship were not up to par. I had high expectations for a relaxing and rejuvenating experience, but I found the services to be underwhelming. The quality of the treatments did not meet my expectations, and I was left feeling disappointed. Secondly, the food on the cruise was subpar. I had heard great things about the dining options on Carnival Cruise Line, but I found the meals to be lacking in taste and variety. The quality of the ingredients used seemed to be below standard, and overall, the dining experience did not live up to my expectations. Additionally, I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the public areas on the ship. The ship's common spaces were not properly maintained, and I noticed a lack of attention to cleanliness. The furnishing in these areas also appeared old and dated, which further added to the overall disappointment. Considering these factors, I must say that my first ever cruise with Carnival Cruise Line was underwhelming, to say the least. I had hoped for a memorable and enjoyable experience, but unfortunately, I was left feeling unsatisfied. Based on my experience, I have made the decision to never submit myself to this type of cruise with Carnival Cruise Line again. I value cleanliness, quality, and a high level of service, and I feel that these aspects were lacking during my time on the Sunrise Ship. I hope that Carnival Cruise Line takes this feedback into consideration and takes steps to improve the spa services, food quality, and cleanliness of their ships. It is my sincere hope that future guests have a better experience than I did. Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback and for considering my perspective. Feeling Underwhelmed, Michael

So I will start this review off by saying I am a disabled male on a fixed income. I have been flying with American Airlines for over 30 years and I have been cruising with Carnival for over 30 years. I had a great run but as the old saying goes all great things must come to an END. So now I will get to the issues at hand for the first time in 30 years. I had booked a vacation for April 28th through May 12th. Who would have known that I booked everything at the same time that Tornadoes would go through Texas and my home state Oklahoma? Destroying Multiple towns, cities, and continuing for multiple days. Now I do understand that mother nature's weather can sometimes be very bad and difficult. Even at every turn and no matter what was thrown my way I fought and crawled my way to be on time for my vacation. This vacation cost me $691.18 to American Airlines, $265.14 to Uber, and $3648.85 to Carnival cruise line to stand there with the Uber driver for 45 minutes looking at the Carnival Dream cruise ship that I was supposed to be on and not going home. So to put this in perspective Carnival, American Airlines, and Uber charged me $4605.17 to go stay the night in airports for 3 nights, lose my luggage, look at the ship, wave at the passengers, and watch it take off. Well, this has taught me something and that is to use Royal Caribbean for future cruises and United for future airlines. STAY AWAY FROM CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE!!!!

I haven't cruised in over a decade so the new way of cruising was nice and I went solo. This was a 6 day western caribbean cruise leaving from miami and going to - cozumel, belize and costa maya. First tip - join the Facebook group with your fellow people that will sail on your date. Carnival has an app and it makes It so easy to keep up with what's going on throughout the day. Itinerary right there in your hand. Embarking was easy. Drop your luggage and onboard. I'd recommend just getting a passport to bypass any issues. The ship is was nice and easy to find things. Easy to navigate. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I enjoyed the entertainment - lady and the vamps, piano bar with Rodney, trivia and the other shows. I didn't find the comedy too funny. Food is plentiful and tasted great - restaurants that you can pay extra at - I didn't dine there. Several bars throughout. 2 casinos. Love, love the pizza. I went during spring break so my only complaint was the teens/kids running around. I avoided any pools because of them and opted for the whirlpools instead and the inappropriate conversations I heard amongst these kids were appalling. I would recommend that their curfew be cut an additional hour than the 1 am. The staff were all polite and friendly. I didn't encounter any issues during my cruise. Disembarking was easy and seamless. I'd opt for allowing carnival to handle your luggage. A few travelers were anxious because Disembarking didn't happen right on time and they had flights (schedule your flights for later in the day if you fly). Overall, I'd recommend this cruise and Carnival. Loved the duck hunt on board. I want to participate and bring duckies next time!

They confiscated my steamer on April 6 on the 3 level. I was given a letter and told to pick up outside customs when we returned. Nobody was able to find my brand new steamer. Was told to go to a website. If they find it they will contact me? How do you lose someone's property on a ship like the Mardi Gras? No phone number to speak to a live human. Carnival check your cameras somebody has my steamer!

We sailed on Carnival Elation to the Bahamas and felt it was an incredibly chaotic experience. There was something wrong with the boat which delayed our departure time and ended up canceling one of our port visits. Communication was very confusing and disjointed. Our morning in Nassau, our catamaran and snorkeling excursion was cancelled due to "not enough interest." When we arrived at the information desk we saw a long line of people who received the same message. Come to find out the cruise actually meant to say it was cancelled due to weather. We booked a dolphin excursion instead. As we got off the boat we learned the dolphin excursion was cancelled and same man who minutes before had sold us the dolphin excursion got us to book a swimming with the pigs excursion. We got on a small boat, arrived at the island, and learned the pig excursion was cancelled but we were trapped on the island for the next four hours. As soon as we arrived back on the cruise ship they informed us the second excursion was also cancelled. Overall incredibly poor communication and customer service. Nothing was done to assist besides a $100 cruise credit per stateroom not passenger. I felt very disappointed with this use of half my vacation days for the year and very disappointed in the response from carnival. I would not recommend carnival to anyone.

I see a lot of 1-star reviews for Carnival Cruise Lines and I have to agree with the masses. What a disappointing experience. How deflating. I'll explain my POV, but before I do, here's one of the most frustrating aspects to Carnival... If you have a Post Cruise Complaint, they DO NOT offer a Customer Service telephone number to assist guests. You are OUT OF LUCK! Again, this was a shock to my system...NO POST CRUISE PHONE NUMBER FOR COMPLAINTS. The only choice you have, like an imprisoned cellmate is to email Carnival. You're hostage to them, and there's NOTHING you can do about it other than emailing. Their address [email protected]. For my cruise in late January, the day after I returned, I spent 1 hour writing a 5000 word email to Carnival. Ugh. 3 days later, Brandy Q. - the Guest Care Specialist, addressed all my issues and resolved NOTHING. I asked for a refund back on my credit card, and instead she defended Carnival's policies to the bitter end. Not only was there no refund, but no credit for a future cruise, no partial refund, no anything. From Brandy...Carnival did everything correctly, and me, Seth, I am the villain and deserve nothing! What a shame. So, in the end, I got no reimbursements, just feeling liked I was skinned down to the bone with unfortunate events. But Brandy did welcome me back for a future cruise. Future cruise after you did nothing for me? No Chance, NEVER! Goodbye Carnival! And now it all makes sense that they don't have a Post Cruise Complaint Line, because they'll be on the phone for forever handling passenger's poor experiences. Regardless, I lived and learned and I'll be better from this in the future. Let me explain what happened... I took a 6 night cruise onboard Carnival Magic to the Caribbean, departing from Miami. Things were fine the first few days. Then... - 7:30am day of visiting Grand Turk in Turks and Caicos, while sitting and eating breakfast with an excursion planned, the Ship Captain gets on the loudspeaker and announces due to high winds, we can't dock at Grand Turk and now we're stuck at sea for another day. What a letdown! I understand due to safety reasons, this can happen, but the Captain didn't apologize or show sympathy. Problem was, I booked my excursion for the day outside Carnival and with Viator. It's been an incredible struggle dealing with Viator trying to get a refund from them for something out of my control! I went to Guest Services at Level 3. Nope, they could do nothing. You think Carnival would reimburse me for my lost paid excursion? Of course NOT! - Next day was at Princess Cays, Bahamas which is Carnival's own resort island. For excursions, you can only book through Carnival. I had a stingray encounter for the morning which turned out well. I had a snorkeling excursion planned for the afternoon at 2:30pm. Checking in at 2:20pm at the Info Desk, I was informed that due to rough waters, the excursion was canceled! You think Carnival had a backup plan for me? NO! I begged the Info Desk, please, can you put me on any other excursion? Anything please? NO, everything is SOLD OUT! Wow Carnival, way to be prepared ahead of time with offering alternatives. Canoe rental? NO Paddle board rental? NO Kayak rental? NO Please, anything other than sitting on a blue lounge chair? NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! And when I asked the Info Desk Representative if she could repeat why they canceled snorkeling? She rolled her eyes at me. Wow, Carnival's Customer Service was non-existent! And here's me, I live life like a gentle breeze and I'm irritating the Info Desk Rep. Returning to Guest Services back on the ship, NOPE, NOTHING other than a refund. They just had scripted answers for everything. No Compensation. It's my tough luck. - Finally, the last evening onboard what's turning into a nightmare experience...at 12:50am, the Cruise Director, Mike, gets on the ship's loudspeaker and announces there's a missing passenger and that every guest must return to their staterooms. At almost 1am at night, you're waking up the entire ship? I would think most guests are sleeping at 1am! Go wake up the Cruise Staff and have them tell passengers to return to their rooms! Instead, Mike got back on the loudspeaker again at 2:15am, 3:15am, and finally at 4am that they located the missing passenger! Hallelujah! A miracle from the heavens! So, the last night on the cruise was a disaster. Who does this? These are Carnival's policies? Worst of all, on the 1st announcement, Mike says..."for all children at Leisure Time Day Care, staff will return kids back to their rooms"! Really? Kids are at Leisure Time in the middle of the night? How scripted! Boo! In the end, Carnival doesn't care for their guests. As long as those credit cards keep getting charged and the $$$ keeps rolling in, the moment you exit that cruise ship for the final time, Carnival will ghost you about complaints but happily invite you back on a future sailing!

Day 1 jacksonville to Bahamas So far the Jacksonville port is not set up to accommodate passengers boarding. The lines are in the heat and the workers manage passengers like cattle. Than after the long wait to board one must walk up five levels in the same heat to get on board. Food is good and is abundance. Out dinner experience was loud and I couldn't talk to someone sitting next to me. We went at our time and waited 41 minutes to be seated. Once seated we did not see an attendant for another 20 minutes. Will update Dinner was good the service was good.

Just got home from our 9 day cruise onboard Carnival Magic. No magic in this ship at all. More like a discount Walmart cruise line. Saw our room steward the day we boarded and the night before disembarkation, she did a good job cleaning the room each day but usually have more contact with them, very odd. Must say the beds were at least comfortable along with the temp in the room, which sometimes is a problem. Dining room table had no tablecloths, not even on formal "elegant" night, reminded them each day the we were out of pepper but never replenished and they make you share butter with the person sitting next to you. Only 2 small pools on ship and 3 hot tubs, not even 1/2 the amount of lounge chairs needed to give everyone a place too lounge. No shows at night, you could go to the comedy club to see a not very good comedown or go to the theater to see a not very good comedian, one night a magician and one night an individual singer. There was no production show or any show put on my entertainment staff. One fun game show love and marriage, and saw 2 pool activities. There is absolutely nothing to do on this ship. I did enjoy the ports and we booked 3 of our 4 tours off the ship. I will NEVER go on another carnival cruise, I had been on one 25 years ago as my first cruise and didn't think much of it but know so many people that love Carnival so I thought I would give them another chance. The only people that like Carnival cruise line are people that have never been on a mother cruise line for comparison, this is what they think they are all like. Feel sorry for them. 2 plus are I did have a wonderful massage and the Guy Fieri burgers were awesome! Even the cruisers were quite low class, grungy t-shirts at dinner, trailer trash mouths, a few fights and disrespectful people. So happy to be home!

Carnival Celebration Itineraries

Carnival celebration review, review of carnival celebration.

The 2022-built Carnival Celebration cruise ship is CCL fleet 's second newest and largest liner of the Carnival XL-Class. All three units in this series are from the German shipbuilder Meyer Werft (shipyard Turku Finland ). As with all other "Fun Ships", the shipowner is Carnival Corporation - the world's largest passenger shipping company .

The vessel (IMO number 9837456) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311001223) and registered in Nassau . Before its arrival in the USA, the vessel was Panama-flagged (MMSI 352898755).

The XL-Class is similar as design and facilities to HELIOS-Class ships produced for Carnival Corporation's brands Costa and AIDA (all by Meyer Werft in Papenburg Germany ). Other EXCELLENCE-Class liners (Carnival Celebration sisterships) are Carnival Mardi Gras (2021), Carnival Jubilee (2023), P&O Iona (2020), P&O Arvia (2022), Costa Smeralda (2019), Costa Toscana (2021), AIDAnova (2018), AIDAcosma (2021).

Carnival Celebration cruise ship

Carnival XL-Class ship design features a new (red-white-navy blue) hull and was created by the NYC-based naval architecture firm "Bluarch Architecture". Among the world's largest passenger ships , the Celebration has length 1130 ft (344 m), passenger capacity 5200 (lower berths) and boasts the most advanced maritime technologies as well as various fleet-first and industry-first innovations.

Like the sisterships, Carnival Celebration has the second-at-sea roller coaster. The facility ("BOLT Ultimate Sea Coaster") was built by Maurer Rides ( Munich Germany -based company) specializing in roller coaster design and manufacturing. The race track has length 244 m (800 ft), with twists, turns, drops and speeds up to 64 kph (40 mph). Individual speeds are posted after the race. Carnival's roller coaster is all-electric and allows 2 riders to race along in motorbike-like vehicles at height 57 m (187 ft) above the sea. The experience features breathtaking top-deck 360-degree views and ends with a high-speed turn around the funnel/smokestack.

On January 25, 2019, was announced that the new Carnival XL-class vessel will have 6x themed zones/neighborhoods - Celebration Central, The Gateway ("French Quarter" on Mardi Gras), Lido-Pool, 820 Biscayne ("La Piazza" on Mardi Gras), Summer Landing, The Ultimate Playground.

Decks and Cabins

Carnival Celebration staterooms (a total of 2641 passenger cabins) are divided into 22 different categories, including 2-deck apartments (duplex suites) and 80 wheelchair-accessible cabins (for disabled passengers). All cabin bathrooms feature CCL fleet's first glass-door showers and in-shower shaving bar. Over 70% of all staterooms are outside, 300 pairs are connecting/family cabins.

The boat has 18 decks , of which 15 are passenger-accessible and 11 with cabins.

Cabin balconies are accessed via sliding floor-ceiling glass doors. The lounge area is furnished with new-type sofabeds (couch bed with footstools opening up for storage), under-bed storage (for suitcases), flexible reading lamps (bedside), mini-refrigerator with transparent glass door, plenty of power outlets, USB ports (on the vanity table and bedside), more shelving (for electronic devices), large wardrobe (with folding shelves, sliding shoe rack, 2 pull-out bins).

Like the Vista-class Carnival liners, Celebration has Havana staterooms with a patio (indoor-outdoor space) with direct access to an exclusive Sundeck area with loungers, Bar and swimming pool. Another Vista-class type of cabins are Family Harbor (clustered near Camp Ocean/kids club) and with direct access to the exclusive Family Harbor Lounge. Cloud 9 Spa staterooms traditionally offer exclusive amenities, including premium bathrobes and slippers and Elemis brand toiletries.

The new Carnival ship Celebration offers 180+ suites in 11 categories, including CCL's new premium category "Carnival Excel" suites (32 staterooms in 4 categories) with new VIP amenities and exclusive access to Loft 19 (resort-style, open-air sundeck). The Ultimate Playground is a large (2-decks high) family-friendly outdoor playground with fleet's largest Carnival WaterWorks (aquapark), expanded SportSquare (sports complex with a basketball court, ropes course, jogging track, mini-golf) and "BOLT - Ultimate Sea Coaster" (world's 2nd rollercoaster at sea).

CCL's entertainment team partnered with celebrity directors from Los Angeles (Broadway) and London (West End) to create 3 new signature shows - part of the onboard "Playlist Productions" revues. The new shows (named "Celestial Strings", "Soulbound", "Vintage Pop") use the full capacity of the interactive LED screens. A 4th show ("Amor Cubano - A Caribbean Dance Romance") is also available on the Horizon ship. It was introduced in 2017 on Carnival Vista.

  • "Celestial Strings" show is themed on classical music mixed with modern pop.
  • "Soulbound" is a gothic-inspired, New Orleans-themed show featuring R&B music favorites.
  • "Vintage Pop" show is themed on "Gatsby's Cotton Club", featuring modern songs recomposed into classic jazz interpretations performed live by a 6-piece jazz band.
  • "Amor Cubano - A Caribbean Dance Romance" show is themed on classic Latin songs mixed with modern music hits. It is held at the Havana Bar and highlighted by a 7-piece Cuban music band.

Carnival Celebration's retail shopping options include 9x new collections, including CCL's 50th Anniversary memorabilia (50th Birthday), 305 Deco Celebration (in the "820 Biscayne" zone/Miami-themed), new brands, fashion accessories and designs (customizable apparel, Romero Britto artworks, Effy Fine Jewellery, LVMH brands' luxury goods, ICONIC London's makeup products, Ariana Grande's perfumes and colognes, Cuervo y Sobrinos' watches), a destination-themed collection (based on the cruise itinerary's regions/countries/port cities), a Carnival-logoed collection (CCL-logoed and Carnival Celebration-logoed products plus various logo items), as well as special merchandise influenced by the cruise liner's entertainment venues. Carnival Celebration's retail shops are spread across all six zones/neighborhoods. "The Carnival Store" (deck 8) features an interactive floor experience. The Luxury Vintage Retail is a boutique promoting responsible fashion.

New (fleet-first and never-before-seen) live entertainment options on Carnival Celebration feature aerialist acts, grand productions, game shows, parties, themed events and presentations. The new programming (at Playlist Productions and Atrium's Center Stage) includes:

  • "Color My World - An Indie Rock and Pop Love Story" is dance music themed (street jazz, hip-hop, ballet, pop, indie rock) and features live painting.
  • "Rio Carnival" is a Brazilian fiesta show with the cast performing authentic dancing (samba, bossa nova, batudada, forro, carimbo, capoeira, marchinha), in addition to popular songs performed in Portuguese and English.
  • "The Most Magnificent Circus" is an extravagant aerialist show with professional wire-rigged performers flying over the audience.
  • Playlist Productions also hosts the new shows "Celestial Strings", "Cuban-meets-Latin" and "Amor Cubano", while Center Stage hosts the new "We Are One" music production.

Celebration Central Atrium's Center Stage hosts the "Visual Symphony" production using the 16 moving LED screens and high-tech lasers in combination with classic rock live music. Center Stage's shows were developed by Jason Whicker (aerial director).

Together with CCL's popular game shows "Love and Marriage", "Family Feud Live" and "Deal or No Deal", on Carnival Celebration debuted the new "Cash Bash" (casino game with prizes and interactive activities), "Guess That Groove" (groovy dance competition), "What’s Age Got to Do With It" (Q&A trivia show for all ages, including family duos). A new party that debuted on the ship is "Celebration Happy Hour" (at Latitudes Bar).

Carnival Celebration Wiki

The vessel's name (Carnival Celebration, IMO number 9837456) was announced on August 21, 2020. The boat's arrival in 2022 (inaugurated in November in PortMiami ) was planned to coincide with CCL's 50th anniversary. The sistership Mardi Gras was originally scheduled for inauguration on February 6, 2021, leaving out Port Canaveral . Carnival Cruise Line 's 50th Birthday was celebrated in March 2022, with a series of commemorative cruises (Sailabrations) featuring unique onboard entertainment/events and special itineraries.

CCL's President Christine Duffy commented, "The name Carnival Celebration couldn't be more perfect for a ship that will be a key component of our 50th Birthday festivities. Many thanks to our celebrity partners who helped us officially "unbox the fun" and reveal the name of a ship that promises to be a spectacular addition to our fleet. Carnival Celebration is our 50th Birthday present to our guests!"

Like most large -sized newbuilds , the new Carnival Celebration is LNG-powered , with 4x Caterpillar Marine LNG engines (model MaK 16M-46DF) generating combined output 57,2 MW. The propulsion system is based on two Azimuting thrusters with combined power output 37 MW. The ship has 3x LNG tanks (cryogenic steel) with total capacity ~3200 m3. Two of the tanks are larger (length 35 m / 115 ft, diameter 8 m / 26 ft, gas capacity 1525 m3), while the 3rd tank has length 28 m (92 ft), diameter 5 m (16 ft) and gas capacity 520 m3. The vessel's bunkering takes ~8 hours and her LNG capacity is enough for ~14 days of operation (navigation and onboard electricity production).

For its LNG-bunkering operations in Florida (at homeports PortMiami and Port Canaveral ), CCL-Carnival partnered with Royal Dutch Shell plc as fuel supplier.

The shipbuilding order (Meyer Turku yard number / hull 1397) was placed on September 6, 2016. Carnival Celebration's construction at Turku Shipyard Finland officially started on January 13, 2021, with the steel-cutting ceremony (yard/hull number 1397). The special event was attended by Ben Clement (CCL's Senior VP of Newbuilds, Refurbishments and Product Innovation) and Tim Meyer (Meyer Turku's CEO).

The ship was launched/floated out from drydock on February 11, 2022. The ceremony was attended by Tim Meyer and Ben Clement. The coin-ceremony (held on June 15th at Meyer Turku) was attended by Vincenzo Alcaras (Captain), Fabien Gervaise (Chief Engineer), Pierre Camilleri (Hotel Director) as well as by members of CCL's New Build Department and Meyer Turku representatives.

The ship was officially delivered from Meyer Turku to CCL on November 2, 2022. The delivery ceremony was attended by Tim Meyer and Christine Duffy (CCL). The maiden voyage departed from Southampton on November 6th.

The liner's Senior Officers are Vincenzo Alcaras (Captain since 2006 on Carnival Miracle, with CCL since 1996), Fabien Gervaise (Chief Engineer since 2013 on Carnival Breeze, with CCL since 2000), and Pierre Camilleri (Hotel Director, with CCL since 2004).

Carnival Celebration cruise ship construction

On June 16, 2022, at Port Mobile (Alabama) from Carnival Ecstasy was offloaded a vintage car (Rolls Royce Saloon from 1934). The unique automobile (originally positioned outside Ecstasy's Rolls Royce Cafe) was later shipped to Finland and loaded onto Carnival Celebration (at Meyer Turku shipyard). In February 2022, CCL announced that Ecstasy (1991-built/31-years-old) and Sensation (1993-built/29-years-old) leave the fleet in 2022.

Sea trials started on September 5, 2022, in the Archipelago Sea (northeastern Baltic Sea's Turku Archipelago/Finnish territorial waters) during which officers, technicians and engineers thoroughly tested the new vessel's technical, mechanical and navigational systems (including maneuvering, endurance, speed, thrusters, steering) to determine its capability and performance. The boat was mastered by Captain Vincenzo Alcaras.

The new ship's name honors MS Celebration (1987-built/2021- scrapped as " Grand Celebration ") - CCL's last/3rd Holiday-class liner, with sisterships MS Jubilee (1986-built/2017-scrapped as "Henna") and MS Holiday (1985-built/2021-scrapped as " CMV Magellan ").

The ship's naming ceremony was on November 20, 2022, held in PortMiami and led by godmother Cassidy Gifford. Cassidy Erin Gifford (1993-born American model and actress) is the daughter of Frank Gifford (former NFL player/footballer and sports broadcaster) and Kathie Lee Gifford (TV host, also the godmother of MS Celebration, 1987-built/2021-scrapped ). Kathie Gifford served as Carnival's spokesperson in American TV campaigns (the industry's first network broadcasting ads) between 1984-2002. Cassidy Gifford's career started in 2005. Her best-known movies so far are "God's Not Dead" (2014, Christian drama/playing Kara) and "The Gallows" (2015, supernatural horror/playing Cassidy Spilker).

Where do I start? This is not worth the money AT ALL. I have cruised often. Over a dozen. This has been the absolute worst. By far. Now I never want to cruise again. Ever. With anyone but definitely never ever carnival. The ship is tired. The crew is rude and does not care. This was my 4th Carnival cruise since 2016. So hard to believe how much they have degraded since 2016. The food variety had shrunked significantly. Why is everyone naked on this ship? What to know about Miami’s nude cruise

Miami has a nude beach. Next year it will have a nude cruise.

A company has charted a Norwegian cruise ship out of PortMiami — and, yes, passengers can let it all hang out on deck.

Here’s what to know about the Big Nude Boat 2025:

MORE: How the nude cruise came to be

Bare facts on the nude cruise

Cruise ship: NCL’s Norwegian Pearl

Departure: Feb. 3, 2025, from PortMiami

Length of trip: 11 days. Ship returns Feb. 14.

Destinations: Stops on the Big Nude Boat 2025 include Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Castries, St. Lucia.

MORE: Does Florida have nude beaches? Here’s where you can find clothing-optional sites

Who is organizing the nude cruise?

Travel company: The firm Bare Necessities Tour & Travel has hired Norwegian Cruise Line to host the nude cruise in 2025.

Reservations: To book, travelers must go through Bare Necessities at cruisebare.com . Tickets are now on sale.

What are the details of the nude cruise?

Purpose: Bare Necessities trips are for naturists, people who prefer not to wear clothes— not swingers or kinky adventurers, according to the organizers.

Cost: Prices start at $2,000 for an inside stateroom and go up to $33,000 for a three-bedroom villa. A 2024 cruise out of Tampa on a Carnival ship had fares starting at around $1,200.

History: Barre Necessities’ first cruise was in 1991. It always charters with a cruise line. It has worked with Holland America, owned by Carnival Corp., and Celebrity Cruises, a subsidiary of the Royal Caribbean Group.

The rules of nude cruising

Here are the rules of decorum for the 2024 cruise. Organizers expect them to be similar for the 2025 Big Nude Boat with NCL.

▪ When the ship is docked alongside in port, all passengers must be dressed throughout the vessel, including balconies, until the ship leaves port and an announcement is made that nudity is again permissible..

▪ The ship provides a self-serve buffet on the Lido deck, which is a clothes-free area. Clothing is required for all meals taken in the dining rooms. Casual attire is fine in all of these venues. Bathrobes are not permitted in the dining room..

▪ Lingerie, fetish-wear, and excessive genital jewelry are not appropriate at any time..

▪ Please sit on a towel at all times while nude, in a G-string, thong, or any time you are bare-bottomed. A fresh beach towel will be provided in your stateroom each day for that purpose.

▪ Displaying yourself nude in front of other ships in port or while port authorities are on board the vessel for clearance is strictly prohibited..

▪ No photographs, videos or electronic images of any person may be taken without the express consent of that individual. “NO PHOTO ZONES” around the pools or in dance venues must be followed to avoid confiscation of photo capturing devices.

▪ Dangerous or rude behavior will not be tolerated at any time.

▪ Fondling or inappropriate touching of personal body parts or those of someone else, overt sexual activity or any solicitation for sexual acts is strictly prohibited..

Cruise ship arrives in NYC port with 44-foot dead endangered whale caught on its bow

Updated on: May 9, 2024 / 11:41 AM EDT / CBS/AP

A cruise ship sailed into a New York City port with a 44-foot dead whale across its bow, marine authorities said.

The whale, identified as an endangered sei whale , was caught on the ship's bow when it arrived at the Port of Brooklyn on Saturday, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration fisheries spokesperson Andrea Gomez said. A necropsy conducted later confirmed the whale's species and determined that the creature was a mature female, said the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society, a nonprofit organization that conducted the exam on an marine mammal.

A spokesperson for MSC Cruises said the whale was on the MSC Meraviglia, which docked at Brooklyn before sailing to ports in New England and Canada.

whale-dead-3.jpg

"We immediately notified the relevant authorities, who are now conducting an examination of the whale," officials with the cruise line said in a statement.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of any marine life," the officials said, adding that the Geneva-based MSC Cruises follows all regulations designed to protect whales, such as altering itineraries in certain regions to avoid hitting the animals .

The dead whale was relocated to Sandy Hook, New Jersey, and towed to shore there to allow for better access to equipment and to conduct a necropsy, Gomez said.

The necropsy, an autopsy on an animal, was conducted on Tuesday, Gomez said. Samples collected from the whale will help biologists determine whether it was already dead when it was struck by the ship, she said.

Basic results of that exam showed evidence of tissue trauma in the area of the whale's right shoulder blade and a fractured right flipper, said the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society. In a post shared Wednesday to its Facebook page, the organization also said those tests revealed the whale's gastrointestinal tract was "full of food." Samples of its organs will undergo toxicology reviews and analyses to identify any potential tissue diseases.

"The tissue and bone samples collected will help biologists determine if the vessel interaction occurred pre or post mortem," said the conservation society.

Sei whales are typically observed in deeper waters far from the coastline, Gomez said. They are one of the largest whale species and are internationally protected.

According to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation , sei whales eat 2,000 pounds of fish and plankton per day. They can grow up to 60 feet long, weigh as much as 50 tons and live on average between 50-70 years.

The incident marks the latest endangered whale to be found dead along the East Coast.  Last month, federal authorities said a North Atlantic right whale that was found floating 50 miles offshore east of Virginia Beach, Virginia, was killed in a collision with a ship .

In March, NOAA said the first  North Atlantic right whale  baby born this season had  died after being hit by a vessel .

Environmental groups have called for tighter regulations on commercial fishing and shipping to try to save the whales.

In Massachusetts, there's a proposal to put  speed limits on fast ferries  to Cape Cod and the Islands to protect whales. The ferry companies counter that this would drastically reduce service, and say their captains have never seen a right whale on the job.
