Road Trip Destination: Case IH Factory Tour

10/03/2016 by RG Leave a Comment

Here’s a new road trip destination: a tour of the Case IH factory!

img_6426

I visited the Case IH factory in Racine, Wisconsin when I was nearby at the Red Power Round-Up. What an adventure!

The Magnum Series Case IH tractors are manufactured at the Racine facility. Here’s a picture of me with our friendly and super-informative tour guide, Peter.

img_6425

I visited the plant along with my friends Wild Bill (Bill Anderson), Victor, and my dad. We were able to take pictures outside of the plant, but once we passed through the visitor’s center and onto the factory floor pictures were no longer allowed.

img_6423

Inside the plant, we got a firsthand look at the assembly line. It was really fun to see all the parts come together to form a brand new Case IH or New Holland tractor!

This tour is a great experience for both IH enthusiasts and the general public. You don’t have to be a big tractor person like I am to appreciate the tour, so bring all of your friends!

The best part about the tour: it’s absolutely FREE! Wow! Tours must be scheduled in advance, and visitors must be at least 14 years old.

img_6433

My tour was at the Racine, Wisconsin facility. Tours are also available at the Grand Island, Nebraska manufacturing facility (where they make Case combines) and at the Fargo, North Dakota plant (Case IH Steiger tractors). To get all the details, visit the tours page on the Case IH websit e.

I just called and scheduled a plant tour the day before redpower, she didn't know anything about the show and didn't have any reservations for it yet. I thought that was odd.

Doesn't surprise me. She just punches a clock and collects a paycheck from Fiat. The history about a company that went bankrupt 30 years and has been bought and merged several times over since isn't in her employee handbook.

SMOKER 1

I don't know? Chapter 33 is going tomorrow and Deb has been very outgoing for us. Have spoken on the phone with her at least half dozen times and she seems to be well versed about IH.

Eason

IH NEVER went bankrupt. Very close though. Eason

Deb seems very nice on the phone. I was thinking it would have been full.

I've been checking periodically for tours or other activities prior to RPR. As far as I know there are none!

I did find out that they still do not have a Golf Cart rental vendor because of National insurance B.S.

I am not about to spend a fortune going cross country only to have to walk 6-8 hours a day. I.H. tractors are nice but walking around visiting and seeing everything ten times over would not be fun on foot.

These dam clubs are all the same ,They are afraid to get out of bed in morning unless the insurance man Is there to help them up.

Our EDGE & T.A. clubs are the same.

Agricenter that hosts CAFES tells exhibitors to belong to a tractor club or purchase a all inclusive three day policy for 79.00 or have insurance agent provide Certificate of liability insurance and name CAFES ,which I do.

This is why our Tulare group have resisted belonging to clubs & having events with clubs, they are stiffling.

When we have a event at members ranch he endorses a weekend liability policy for Minimum of whats needed( Don't want to divulge amount) on his current policy and we contribute to the kitty and off we go. We have everyone there sign a release & one designated safety guy & the rest of us keep our eyes out. I realize this is much smaller but the B.S. would not be smaller if a club was involved.

Really the best place to host tractor pulls etc. is at State Fair Grounds for us anyway the Fair needs the revenue & coverage is provided by State @ much less cost & B.S.

Sorry for rant ! But Dam it we complain that we want to keep these events going, then when people come together the insurance wants the premium and expects us to be in ballerina shoes & outfits!

SDman

Isn't that about the time when CaseIH has their "Red Power Tours" program going on? Usually in the middle of June CaseIH has a deal going with their dealers to bring prospective new tractor buyers to Racine, give them a tour of the plant, take them fishing out on the Great Lakes, wine & dine them, etc. Through the years we've sent a couple buses full of customers(usually we work with a few other local dealers to get a busload). Maybe with the slowdown the ag economy they aren't doing that anymore.

Just went on their web site and registration is just for your own cart.

I see no form or # to call for Cart Rentals.

If its on F.B. only I have not seen it.

Newbie

Golf cart rentals are available. It took a long time to get past the legalities required by the National legal counsel.

It will be on the Website by the weekend but here it is. They would rather have an email because it's the slow time but here's the number too.

As far as the tours we have not gotten any commitments from CaseIH as far as support for the Show so we decided just to put their info for the tour on our website. They got so many calls that they asked us to take it off and they are supposedly working on bus(s) from the grounds to the factory during the Show. If anyone has any questions or concerns look at www.rpru2016.com for my contact info.

Thanks for your patience it hasn't been easy to get this far at times.

Wonder if we need reservations for that tour?

I toured the tractor plant many years ago, right after they started building the magnums,

but would like to see it again.

Yes, to Gene Williams.

It isn't on the website yet, but I did see it on Facebook.

https://www.facebook.com/rpru2016/?fref=ts

Have to make reservations, they're going to have a bus from fairgrounds.

Museum History

The first museum, the Zippo Family Store and Museum, opened in late 1993. Aptly named, as it featured products for sale from the Zippo family of companies at the time: Zippo, W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery Company and Holgate Toys.

The original museum was quite small and quickly proved inadequate to satisfy the passion of collectors and curiosity of tourists who made the trip to Bradford. In 1995, plans for a brand new and greatly expanded store and museum were initiated. The grand opening of the Zippo/Case Visitors Center took place on July 18, 1997, coinciding with the company’s 65 th anniversary celebration. It was the centerpiece of the 1997 Zippo/Case International Swap Meet. More than 8,000 people from around the globe attended the three-day event, inaugurating a flow of international visitors that continues today.

The Zippo/Case Museum now hosts more than 50,000 visitors annually. Collectors and tourists travel from all around the United States and many other countries including Japan, Korea, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, and Brazil to revel in their love of these two iconic American brands.

Li cops scour woods for clues in decades-old serial killer case – not tied to gilgo slayings.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

The extensive police search of a remote area on Long Island is not tied to suspected Gilgo Beach killer Rex Heuermann — but to another possible serial killer, police sources told The Post.

Cops are looking for new evidence related to the 1993 murder of Sandra Costilla — and they are hoping to finally tie the case to convicted killer John Bittrolff, according to sources with knowledge of the Suffolk County case.

Cops have also shifted their focus from the woods in Manorville to North Sea, a hamlet located within Southampton Town.

The NYPD canine unit along with the Suffolk County and State Police search a wooded area in Manorville.

That’s where Costilla, 28, of Queens, was found savagely beaten and strangled by hunters on Nov. 20, 1993.

Bittrolff, who is in prison after being convicted of killing two other women on Long Island, was previously named as a suspect in Costilla’s murder, but has never been charged.

Authorities on Saturday continued combing through the dense North Sea woods, including with cadever-sniffing dogs.

It was unclear what new information led detectives back to both locations — or if they have found anything pertinent during the searches, the sources said.

Bittrolff, a 57-year-old former carpenter, lived in Manorville, not far from where cops were conducting their search this past week.

He was arrested in 2014 for the murders of two women: Rita Tangredi, 31, a known sex worker found dead November 2, 1993, in East Patchogue, and Colleen McNamee, 20, who was found killed on January 30, 1994, in a wooded area along William Floyd Parkway in Shirley.

In 2017, jurors found Bittrolff guilty of second-degree murder in both cases. He is now serving 50 years to life.

John Bittrolff in court in 2014.

Investigators have never been able to pin Costilla’s unsolved murder on Bittrolff.

Multiple police sources confirm Bittrolff was, for years after his arrest, the lead suspect in the Gilgo Beach murders investigation.

After his sentencing, Suffolk County prosecutors revealed Bittrolff was also suspected in at least one of the 10 murders attributed to the Gilgo Beach killer.

Sandra Costilla

The torsos of two of the Long Island Serial Killer’s victims, Jessica Taylor and Valerie Mack, were found in Manorville — three miles from Bittrolff’s residence.

Police have noted Tangredi’s adult daughter said she was best friends with Melissa Barthelemy , one of the first victims discovered at Gilgo Beach.

Prior to disappearing, police said Barthelemy made several calls to a Manorville number. Police have never said who the number was registered to.

Sources confirmed police ended up dismissing Bittrolff as a Gilgo Beach suspect months before arresting Heuermann for four of the grisly murders, including Barthelemy’s.

Rex Heuermann.

Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney later publicly said Bittrolff was not involved in the Gilgo Beach serial murders.

Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to the four charges of murder he faces.

The Black Crowes perform on stage in support of their ninth studio album 'Happiness Bastards,' now ... [+] available via Silver Arrow Records. Friday, April 19, 2024 at Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, IL

“Alright!” shouted a clearly excited Chris Robinson last week as the Black Crowes performed on stage in Chicago. “Friday night at the rock and roll show!”

Following last month’s release of their latest studio album Happiness Bastards , their ninth, the Crowes performed Friday night in Chicago at Aragon Ballroom about halfway through the U.S. leg of their current tour, a lengthy jaunt set to take them abroad next month ahead of fall and winter dates in support of Aerosmith’s rescheduled “Peace Out” North American farewell tour.

“When we saw we were coming back to the Aragon, we were very excited,” said Robinson late, noting the group’s first performance in the picturesque room in almost 25 years. “And we’re very excited to have Glyders opening for us. They’re from this town, check them out,” he continued, lauding the work of the Chicago-based, psychedelic garage rock trio (as a cardboard cutout of Chuck Berry looked on from the venue’s balcony).

“Cheers, everyone!” said bassist Eliza Weber early. Singer/guitarist Joshua Condon and drummer Joe Seger would soon find a groove during standout tracks like “Geneva Strangemod” and “High Time,” both from their 2023 full-length debut Maria’s Hunt.

Since we were first introduced in 1990, the Crowes have tallied a pair of platinum albums and three gold records, with Happiness Bastards , the group’s first studio album of original material in nearly 15 years, a worthy addition to their unique brand of southern-fried rock and roll.

“There’s a little town about 90 miles south of Atlanta called Macon, Georgia,” Robinson explained Friday night in Chicago, spotlighting the group’s roots. “Little Richard is from Macon. And the Allman Brothers Band,” he began, just one day removed from the death of co-founding Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts. “But there’s another: the greatest soul singer of all time, Otis Redding,” he continued. “Well, we jumped on that song and it goes like this,” said Robinson, setting up a late take on one of the biggest Black Crowes hits in Redding’s “Hard to Handle.”

While recent tours celebrated their Shake Your Money Maker record, this one makes the case for the new project, with the Black Crowes performing six songs from it over the course of about 95 minutes on stage Friday in Chicago.

As they do on the album too, “Bedside Manners” and “Rats and Clowns,” two of Happiness Bastards ’ more rollicking moments, kicked things off Friday night.

Performing as an 8 piece group, drummer Cully Symington and keyboard player Erik Deutsch were set beside backing vocalists Mackenzie Adams and Lesley Grant atop a unique two-tiered stage built to resemble stacks upon stacks of vintage amplifiers and audio equipment.

Frontman Chris Robinson, who performed in front of a large mirror, was joined on stage by guitarists Rich Robinson and Nico Bereciartua as well as longtime bassist Sven Pipien. Festive lighting strung over, along and behind the stage flanked the group who performed under a massive “Happiness Bastards” banner hanging from the lighting rig over the stage.

“Good to see you all. Welcome to the ‘Happiness Bastards!’” said Chris early in Friday’s set. “We’ve got some new songs and we got some old ones - like this!” he said, shuffling left before pointing right at Rich on the slide guitar, ultimately bunnyhopping in reverse back to center stage as “Twice As Hard” rang out early in Chicago.

Robinson was in fine form Friday, a rejuvenated frontman shimmying about while delivering a still impressive lead vocal, with the new music cementing a once unthinkable rebirth for the Black Crowes, who’ve continually staked their claim as one of America’s best rock acts since reforming in 2019.

From 1996’s Three Snakes and One Charm , “Nebakanezer” was an early highlight in Chicago. The gnarly dual guitar riffwork of “Horsehead,” from 1999’s By Your Side followed, providing one of Friday’s more rewarding one-two punches.

While “Oh Josephine” slowed things down momentarily, “Thorn in my Pride” found the group beginning to roll, with Chris on harmonica as the Crowes delivered an all hands, Stones-like jam to close the cut.

“Everyone say hello to Rich Robinson,” said Chris, gesturing toward his younger brother. With a wave of his right hand, Rich greeted the rapturuous Chicago crowd, soon strumming in the familiar opening licks to “She talks to Angels” on acoustic guitar.

From the new record, “Flesh Wound” followed, quickly proving to be a late high spot. The saccharine-drenched affair was a blast in the live setting, conjuring up the power pop stylings of Cheap Trick as the Black Crowes soared forward in fun fashion.

The brothers Robinson leaned in close, singing into the same mic during “Jealous Again” before closing with “Remedy,” with Chris back on harp as the new “Kindred Friend” wrapped things up in the Windy City.

“What is a band, other than something you dream up?” asked Chris rhetorically on stage in Chicago. “This band started in our mom and dad’s house in the 80s,” he continued, noting the pair’s humble roots. “And that dream will continue on.”

Kia confirms EV9 GT is launching in January with enormous power

Avatar for Peter Johnson

After Kia’s first three-row electric SUV is already seeing strong demand, the EV9 is set to gain a high-performance GT version. Kia confirmed the EV9 GT will launch in January with “enormous power” and other upgrades.

Kia EV9 set for the GT treatment

Kia launched its flagship EV9 in Korea last June. In less than a month, Kia sold over 1,334 EV9 models and another 1,251 in July.

After announcing US prices start at $54,900, Kia called the EV9 a “wake-up call” to the industry. In the first three months of 2024, Kia has sold over 4,000 EV9s in the US.

Kia has been teasing a high-performance GT trim since its debut, but CEO Ho-Sung Song confirmed it will launch in January during its CEO Investor Day presentation.

The EV9 GT will build on Kia’s first high-performance electric vehicle, the EV6 GT. Kia unveiled the EV6 GT in 2022, its most powerful vehicle so far.

With 576 hp, the EV6 GT can hit 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. To prove it, Kia put it up against a Ferrari Roma and Lamborghini Huracan EVO, and it beat both off the line.

Kia-EV6-GT

Powered by a 77.4 kWh battery and a dual motor powertrain, the EV6 GT generates 576 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque. Starting at $61,600, the EV6 is cheaper and quicker than most sports cars.

Kia-EV9-GT

Song confirmed the EV9 GT will launch in January, promising “enormous power” with a 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) time in 4 seconds.

An AWD, high-output dual-motor system will offer quicker acceleration. It will also include a reinforced suspension and electronic braking for better stability at high speeds.

Kia-EV9-GT

Next-gen affordable Kia EVs

Kia also confirmed it will focus on affordable electric cars, aiming to become an EV leader by the end of the decade.

Song confirmed Kia will launch six new mass EV models in major markets. Kia revealed the new models, including the EV2, EV3, EV4, and EV5, during its first annual EV Day in October.

Kia-affordable-EVs

The EV5 already launched in China , starting at around $20,000 (149,800 yuan). It will cost around $46,000 (70,000 AUD) in Australia.

Kia will launch the EV3 by the end of this year. The EV3 features the best of the EV9, including design and tech, in a smaller and more affordable package.

Kia-EV3-design

Like Kia’s EV9, the EV3 includes Kia’s new design theme, including a sleek new “Tiger Face” grille. We’ve seen several prototypes out testing as it nears its official debut. The EV3 is expected to start at around $30,000.

Kia-EV4

Top comment by ABM3

I'm all for speed and power. But I honestly don't see the point in the EV9, or other larger 3 row SUVs. Just so the soccer bags and groceries can slam the back of the car harder? For this class, range and maybe towing range would be what would convince me to upgrade. I'll save the 0-60 times for sports cars/sports sedans.

The EV3 will be followed by the EV4, expected to launch next year. Kia’s EV4 is the brand’s take on an entry-level electric sedan.

Kia will introduce two specific EVs in emerging markets, including the Carens EV. By 2026, Kia aims to sell 587,000 mass-market EVs or 66% of its total sales.

Kia-mas-market-EVs

Kia also revealed it will be strengthening its hybrid lineup as it works to introduce new EV models into key markets.

Song said although EV demand is lower than expected in the short term, long-term forecasts remain unchanged. By 2030, Kia aims to sell 1.6 million EVs. Kia’s CEO also revealed it will cancel two large-size EVs as it focuses on smaller, more affordable models.
