Chachapoyas se encuentra ubicado en la selva peruana, en la región de amazonas provincia del mismo nombre, Chachapoyas es conocida como la “Fidelisima Ciudad de Chachapoyas”, gracias la obtención de la victoria contra los rebeldes de Moyobamba. La ciudad de Chachapoyas cuenta con atractivos importantes como: El santuario de la virgen Asunta, Fortaleza de Kuela, Cataratas de Gocta y muchos más. A unos 70 km de su plaza se encuentra la fortaleza de Kuelap, el verdadero fortín de los Chachapoyas.

Esta Ciudad se ubica a una altitud de 2.483 msnm

El clima en Chachapoyas en general es agradable con una temperatura que varia de 9°C a 23°C y rara vez desciende a menos de 7°C o asciende a mas de 25°C. Los veranos son cortos, como dos y secos; los inviernos son largos y frescos, y en general se mantiene nublado durante todo el año.

El aeropuerto más cercano a Chachapoyas es el Aeropuerto de Jaén, también llamado Aeropuerto de Shumba, que está a 3 horas y media en coche. Hay vuelos directos desde Lima (1h30).

Como llegar a Chachapoyas

No vuelos directos a Chachapoyas , las forma de llegar es por tierra, tomando anterior a ello un vuelo a otra ciudad más cercano en este coso al Aeropuerto de Jaen.

Mejores temporadas para visitar la Ciudad de Chachapoyas

La Temporada para visitar la ciudad de Chachapoyas son los meses de octubre a mayo, los meses de lluvias en los que se podrá observa las cataratas de Gocta en todo su esplendor, en general todo el año, considerando que Chachapoyas cuenta con otros atractivos turísticos.  

Siendo los meses de noviembre hasta abril la mejor época para visitar y conocerlo.  

Kuélap, o Cuélap, es un importante sitio arqueológico preinca ubicado en los Andes nororientales del Perú, en la Provincia de Luya.

Lugares más visitados en Chachapoyas

Fortaleza de kuelap.

Estructura colosal que contiene millones de pies cúbicos de piedra, se presume que se demoraron unos 200 años contruirla. Se encuentra entre los ríos Marañon y Utcubamba. La fortaleza de Kuelap se encuentra a 9,843 pies sobre el nivel del mar, para poder llegar existen la forma, a caballo, o en una caminata que dura tres o cuatro horas. El grupo principal del edificio es circular con un pasillo de acceso principal, dentro de las enormes paredes hay mas de 400 edificios en total, algunas de los cuales son pequeñas casas redondas de piedra, las mas grandes miden hasta 1.969 pies de largo y 66 pies de alto.

Catarata de Gocta

La Catarata de Gocta, se encuentra ubicada aproximadamente de 2 horas de chachapoyas, fue descubierta el 2002 por una expedición liderada por Stefan Ziemendorf un ingeniero alemán.

Gocta en la tercera catarata mas alta del mundo si se considera sus dos etapas de caídas juntas. La vista del paisaje es espectacular y la caminata de 3 horas hasta el centro de la catarata vale la pena.  La caída de Gocta nace por la caída de rio Cocahuayco sobre un acantilado pronunciado, desde una meseta alta y cae durante los primeros mil metros hasta una gran cornisa que interrumpe el torrente.

Los Sarcófagos de Karajía

Fue descubierto en 1985, tumbas con forma de figura humana son una tradición funeraria, con una altura de 2,50. Sus cabezas están decoradas con cráneos, mientras que sus rostros son anchos y planos.  Se encuentran ubicados en peñas de gran altura, a 2,400 metros de pared rocosa vertical, se encuentran ubicados en lugares d difícil acceso, como grutas acantiladas y laderas empinadas. El objetivo era que los sarcófagos jamás sean visitados y los cuerpos momificados puedan descansar en paz.

Caverna de Quiocta

Las cavernas de Quiocta, es un atractivo ubicado en el departamento de Amazonas, Esta maravilla natural tiene un recorrido aproximado de 540 metros. En el inicio de la caverna se puede observar pinturas rupestres, así como restos óseos de animales y humanos. Esto es debido a que Quiota también fue un lugar en donde la cultura de Chachapoyas realizaba sus entierros, los que se acompañaban con sacrificios de animales y entrega de ofrendas en finas cerámicas.    

En la caverna de Quiota se encuentra unas formaciones rocosas impresionantes de estalagmitas, estalactitas. En la caverna se puede encontrar 7 salas de estas formaciones entre ellas se aprecia: El Faraón, El Lanzón, La Momia, El ángel apreciando el nacimiento, El cacique mirando a la princesa, entre muchas más. La denominación proviene del parecido a estos personajes.  

La Laguna de los Cóndores

También conocido como “la laguna de las momias” por qué en el año 1997, se descubrió un yacimiento arqueológico a su alrededor. Como los fardos funerarios, ofrendas y aproximadamente 200 momias de la cultura Chachapoyas, que pueden observarse en el Museo del Sitio de Leymebamba, a unos 93 Kilómetros de Chachapoyas.

Flight Lima – Jaén ( not included ). We will pick you up from the airport and transfer from Jaen to Chachapoyas (duration: 4 hours approx.).

Evening free.

Overnight at La Xalca or Casona Monsante (3-star hotels).

After breakfast at the hotel, we will leave Chachapoyas at 8:00 am, heading to the Quiocta cavern parking lot. Once there, we will start our 10-minute hike to the Quiocta Cavern. On the way, we will appreciate the marvelous flora and fauna. In the cavern, we will find beautiful ancient limestone sculptures and wonderful rock formations such as stalactites and stalagmites. Then, we will return to the site parking lot and return to the town of Lamud, where we will enjoy a satisfying lunch.

We will continue our tour at Cruz Pata village and from there we will walk for 35 minutes to reach the Karajía Sarcophagi, also known by the locals as the “Wise Men” enticing anthropomorphic structures made out of stone, wood, and clay, as tall as 2.50m. Afterwards, we will take our car back to the city of Chachapoyas. Arrival and overnight at the hotel of your choice.

Enjoy breakfast, then we will be leaving Chachapoyas at 8:00 am, heading to the parking lot of the Revash Mausoleum. From there, we will take a walk for about one hour to this impressive funerary complex, which dates back to the thirteenth century AD, painted in red and cream color resembling small houses, three stories high! After exploring it, we will head to the Leymebamba museum or Centro Mallqui, created to preserve the 240 mummies and archeological material found in the Lagoon of the Condors in 1997. Two thousand five hundred artifacts including ceramics, textiles, wood carvings etc., which were used as offerings by the Chachapoyas.

At the end of our visit, we will return to the city of Chachapoyas.

Overnight at   La Xalca or Casona Monsante (3-star hotels).

We will depart from Chachapoyas at 08:30hrs to visit the enigmatic fortress of Kuelap at the top of a mountain at 3000m / 9840ft, overlooking the Utcubamba River in the middle of the magnificent cloud forest. Its strategic location offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valley. Not completely restored yet well kept by the favorable environment.

On our way to Kuelap, we will stop at the remainings of the Macro archeological complex and learn about its history and connection to Kuelap. Then we will get on the cable car to get to La Malca to continue on our trip to Kuelap, which dates back to the sixth century AD. The tour will last 2 ½ hours approx. Next, we will get back on the cable car to Tingo village for lunch. In the afternoon, we will continue our journey to the valley of Utcubamba and return to the city of Chachapoyas.

Meals included: B   BL (in private service) or L (in shared/group service)

Breakfast at the hotel, then we will leave Chachapoyas at 8:30hrs for Cocachimba. From here we will begin our hike at 9:30hrs to the Gocta Waterfall. During the hike, we will appreciate two waterfalls, beautiful sugar cane, and coffee plantations. As we descend, we will admire more of the Cloud Forest landscape and its varied flora and fauna, the natural habitat of Peru’s representative national bird: the Andean Cock of the Rock. We will also see the yellow-tailed woolly monkey, hummingbirds, and other tropical birds such as the Buff-bellied Tanager, the Black-necked Woodpecker, or perhaps the Marvelous Spatuletail, the Chestnut-crowned Antpitta, and the Barred Becard, just a few to mention. As we reach Gocta Waterfall, we will rest at the base of this gorgeous place and head back to Cocachimba for lunch and then transfer to the Gocta Lodge located at the start of the hike.

Late afternoon and evening free.

Overnight at Gocta Lodge (equivalent to a 3-star hotel).

Meals included: B   L (at Gocta Lodge in private service or at a local restaurant in shared/group service)

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cocachimba and transfer you to the airport in Jaén (duration: 3 hours approx.) for your flight back to Lima ( not included ).

Day 1: Kuelap Fortress Tour

9:30 am start of the tour to the Kuelap Fortress, arriving at the district of Tingo 10:30 am. The trip in the cable car takes 20 minutes, 10 hours you will arrive at the Kuelap tourist stop, considered one of the most imposing buildings in America, lunch in the district of Tingo Nuevo, and return trip and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gocta Waterfalls Tour

9 hours Start of the adventure, travel to the village of Cocachimba, 10:30 hours words of encouragement to have one of the best adventures of our trip, with a 2 hour hike to reach the third highest waterfall in the world Gocta with its 771 meters high. On the route you will find a great diversity of flora and fauna (Cock of the Rock and the Spatule-tailed Hummingbird). Upon return from the waterfall, Guarapo tasting, lunch in Cocachimba and return trip to the city of Chachapoyas.

Day 3: Karajia Sarcophagi and Quiocta Cave

8:30 a.m. Beginning of the tour visiting the archaeological site of Karajia Sarcophagus, which contains the best example of the funerary style of this Chachapoyas kingdom. Lunch and visit the Quiocta caverns, where you will observe the stalactites and stalagmites, return trip to the city of Chachapoyas.
