A very different finish that looks fantastic behind the ball. More forgiving on mishits than many of the smaller-headed models. However, this
is at the expense of a little feel. Appealing compact look at address, but with the technology to aid forgiveness. The back of the clubhead has an unnecessarily fussy design.

Superior Distance is the result of Dynamic Microcavity Technology; progressively sized microcavities for optimized CG location in each head. I am a senior golfer and work at the local golf club, so I get a chance to try all the new gear that comes in. I have to say that I like the CG7s even more than my TM Burners and Ping G5s. They are super easy to hit and look sharp. Not as much offset as the Pings and better balance than the Burners. All three are excellent but you will have to be very picky to find a better set of clubs than the Cleveland. The Black Pearls are nice but IMO not worth the extra cash as they are essentially the same club. The price is coming down on these clubs so grab a set and have some fun!

Customer Service

Not have had to use.

Everything I can get my hands on.

Clubs came right at the beginning of two weeks of February cold, snow, and rain. Finally got out to play and was impressed with the irons. Have only played once in last 2 months so I got to experience the feel of offhit shots. Immediate feeback compared to Launcher irons. By end of 9 holes confidence in hitting had returned and enjoyed the ability to know when a shot was hit well or just a bit off center. Great feel and feedback. The zip groves do not mar ball on mid to long irons. The groves are not as aggressive as those on last years wedges. Nice looking compared to regular CG7 Tour. Very confident that there is no better iron I could be playing. If I do my part, they perform as they should. If I do not they give feedback. Love these irons.

Cleveland golf is great to deal with.

Wilson Staff Tour Blade (After 15 Year break) Cleveland Launcher Irons

Cobbled together a mixed set of CG7 irons, 7-GW in R flex graphite and 4-6 with Project X 5.5 steel. Total was around $225 from Ebay. GREAT irons. I love the heavier swing feel in both the graphite and the steel... the R flex graphite is not too whippy in the short irons, more like a firm. The PX steel affords more control for a harder swing. I have not been thrilled with anything from Cleveland since the 460 Comp driver... but these irons are great. Very forgiving, easy to hit, accurate, and nice spin. I could not afford the Black Pearl, but I bet they are nice. Don't really need the extra spin, though. Not too much offset, with a mid-size head... nice. Great feel, trajectory is a bit high, but no biggie. Distance is fine. Not super workable with the fade, they draw just fine. Balance is excellent. Not very expensive on Ebay, and I like them much better than anything from Ping or Callaway, and better than my preceding set, the TM 2009 Burners.

If looking for a great iron, fun to hit, forgiving and plenty long... and at a great price, worth a look.

I've been looking for some new irons for awhile and my driving range had the cleveland cg7 tour irons to demo. I compared the cleveland to my mizuno mp 60's. Now I have found my new set of irons in the cg7 tours with s300 shafts. they are soft but not as soft of the mizuno's and I have gained some distance(5 to 7 yards) per club. They setup nice which gives me confidence at address. I'm hitting the longer irons with ease which I couldn't do with the mp 60's. Also cleveland will give you a new set of irons next year for free, I'm not sure how that will work out. So give them a try and you be the judge.

Haven't the need to use.

Club Review – Cleveland CG7 Black Pearl Irons

CG7_5_iron_black-pearl_hero_crop

Cleveland’s CG series irons are not new. In fact they have been around since May of 2007. The CD Gold and CG Red irons are still in use on the professional tours also. Next came the CG7 and CG7 Tour irons, which are also widely used on the pro tours, and finally we have the new CG7 Black Pearl (BP) and CG7 Tour Black Pearl irons. The new BP irons look similar to last year’s CG7 irons, with similar basic shape and graphics. The biggest difference is obviously the new Black Pearl finish. The matte black finish looks a lot like the gunmetal finish that was available in previous Cleveland clubs. They also feature Cleveland’s new Laser Milled face texture that increases surface roughness to maximize spin, along with the already popular Zip grooves. There is a lot going on in the cavity of the CG7s. Crammed in there is a one piece injection molded visco-elastic insert that covers the entire perimeter of the cavity and the base of the head. This insert provides vibration dampening across the entire face for superior feel, even on off center hits, according to Cleveland. All of this, combined with the heel and toe weighting provides for a pretty forgiving iron that looks very sharp as evidenced by several double-takes from interested observers as we tested these on the range at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.

CG7 Tour BP

Performance

The CG7 line of clubs are firmly placed in the middle of Cleveland’s lineup. For the ultimate in game improvement for high handicap players, they offer the HiBore XLi and launcher Irons. For the traditionalist and/or better players, they have the CG Tour forged blades, and for everyone in between, they now have the CG7, CG7 tour, CG7 BP and CG7 Tour BP irons. Given their position in the lineup, they should appeal to a wide range of players from scratch golfers to mid handicaps. The CG7 BP irons have more offset and stronger lofts than the CG7 Tour BPs. The difference doesn’t seem like much – the PW is 45 vs. 46 degrees, and the 5 iron offset goes from .180″ to .135″ – but it makes a big difference. Most lid to low handicap golfers will prefer the Tour version that has less offset and weaker lofts. Even with a 46 degree pitching wedge, many players will have to carry a gap wedge to bridge the difference in loft from PW to SW.

My test set of CG7 Tour Black Pearls came with the venerable Dynamic Gold shaft and Cleveland grip. I warmed up with my own clubs first and then grabbed the CG7 BPs. My first impression was that they sat nice and square and were easy to line up. The contrast of the white scoring lines against the black finish may be a distraction to some, but I didn’t mind it. The feel of these clubs was a surprise. They feel softer than I would have imagined for a cast cavity back iron. This may be due to the visco-elastic insert, dampening the feel and sound of impact. As I continued to hit balls, I found it rather easy to shape shots and hit knockdowns and punches. These clubs perform at a very high level! The feel is very muted and softer than expected, and the forgiveness is about where I expected. They will moderately help a mis-hit shot, but you’ll know you miss hit it. As far as performance goes, they were very similar to my Srixon i701 Tour Forged irons, and I think I could adjust to these in just a few rounds.

Specs and Options

The CG7 BPs come with several different shatf offerings. In steel the standard offering is called the flightspeed shaft, but you will probably want to chose one of the custom shafts. You have the choice between the Dynamic Gold, DG Lite, DG Sensicore, Dynamic Gold SL, Project X, Rifle Flighted and Rifle shafts. In graphite, you have a choice between a standard Cleveland branded shaft or offerings from Aldila and Grafalloy. I’ve never been a fan of “stock” shafts, as I feel these are mass produced with lower quality standards than the custom option shafts. As always, I highly encourage getting properly fitted for your new irons also. It’s just a smart thing to do and helps you make the most of your investment.

With Cleveland Golf, it’s important to note that they have a great promotion going on for the remainder of 2009. Overall Impressions

I think Cleveland golf has another winner on their hands with the CG7 Black Pearl irons. Matched with the hot new CG15 wedges , they will make a great addition to anyone’s bag. They are forgiving without sacrificing feedback, and feel almost like a forged club. They look really sharp, and everyone we showed them to liked them at first glance.

Pros: Good feedback with forgivness, Solid muted feel, good spin potential, sharp looks Cons: Stock “flightspeed” shaft, opt for a custom shaft. dark finish shows wear faster than chrome clubs

I bought a CG7 black pearl set in early December and I’m impressed with the feel and performance. I opted for the Aldila stiff graphite shaft, which has a mid flex point. The face of the irons does discolor somewhat, especially with the first dozen or so shots, but I have not noticed any wear on the laser grooves between the zip grooves. For greenside chipping and pitching, I don’t believe the clubs generate more spin than the Titleist vokey spin mill. I would say the Vokey spins more, but the CG7’s had excellent feel.

We just got these in our shop a couple of weeks ago, and they are real beauties! Have only hit them into our net (but with a launch monitor), and the performance is first-rate. The CG7s are more forgiving on mishits than the tour models, and the tours have a much thinner top line and a smaller face. Looks like one or the other would cover every handicap from 5 to 20. These are probably the best-looking clubs in the mid-price range that I’ve seen for several years. Can’t say enough about the zip grooves and laser-milled grooves combination! OH — and on the launch monitor, the CG15 BP spins a LOT more than the Vokey!

Can you go into detail regarding how much these are spinning the ball on mid-irons? I have a set of the CG15 wedges and love them – it’s intriguing what they’d do with 9 through 5 irons.

Do they spin more than say, some Mizuno MX-300s?

I haven’t tried the Mizunos, but Cleveland put the same grooves the CG15 wedges have in the CG7 BP irons, so the mid irons and short irons spin very well! It all depends on the player’s skill level and ball you use of course. My play tester was coming up short on approach shots all day because his normal set has older “V” grooves and he usually allows for a little run out. The laser etched grooves add some spin, but they started wearing out after a few rounds. Either way, they are a very solid set and gorgeous to look at. I don’t think you can go wrong with these!

Thanks for the quick review John!

I may order a 6 iron to compare with the Mizunos. I was fitted yesterday and ended up ordering a set of MX-300s.

Pingback: Bridgestone J38 Dual Pocket Cavity Irons - Review | Intothegrain.com

Don’t know what it is about Cleveland irons, but they seem to fit my swing better than any other. I was fitted for a set of CG4 Tours several years ago, and before they started using the Visco Insert. I loved them, but hated the harshness of a mis-hit with them. Eventually I gave them to my son, and picked up a set of MX-25’s for the soft forged feel. Problem was, I lost a good 10 yards per club. I had them bent stronger, but it didn’t really help all that much. I just figured that since I was getting older, I probably just lost those yards naturally. A couple years later, I went for the Hot New Burners 1.0, and for the promised longest iron in golf. The yards were not there, so I had the lofts checked again, and they were all off in one direction or another. I had them reset, but that did not really help either. Since they don’t perform any better, and I don’t really like their bulky look, I started looking again. I wanted to demo some Adams irons, so I went to my local proshop to hit some used ones. As a comparison, they gave me a couple of other clubs to try, one being a CG 7. As I was hitting balls on the range and comparing the clubs, I picked up the CG 4, and Boom, I got my 10 yards back. Guess which clubs I bought? This is one 55 year old that is now thinking seriously about lowering his 15 hdcp.

Oops, mistake in the next to last sentence. Pick up CG7 not 4.

I owned a set of Cleveland CG irons back in 2010. Loved them then and I dont know why I every changed. Just replaced my Mizuno’s with these. Cleveland outdoes themselves once again.

Cleveland Tour Action Irons Review – Still Good And Forgiving For High Handicappers?

cleveland cg7 tour irons

“The Cleveland Tour Action irons were made to resemble blades but provide the forgiveness of cavity back irons.”

There were a few different iterations of the Cleveland Tour Action irons but for this review, I tested the Cleveland Tour Action 7 irons. This is the latest, and some would argue, greatest version of the Tour Action irons.

With these irons, Cleveland was really trying to bridge the gap between game improvement and players performance. Did they succeed? Are the Cleveland Tour Action irons any good for high handicappers? Read on to find out.

Are Cleveland Tour Action Irons Still Good?

“The Cleveland Tour Action irons have a very unique feature that I don’t think I’ve seen in any other irons.”

At least, not in any irons I can remember. The feature I’m talking about is the “Micro Cavity.” There are about five little chambers bored into the back of the topline. The purpose of these tiny chambers is to lighten the top portion of the head so that the center of gravity is shifted downward.

This design also helps to move more weight to the perimeter of the head where it can provide more forgiveness. The Cleveland Tour Action irons also feature the Vibration Absorption Technology that Cleveland actually patented.

The Cleveland Tour Action irons are cavity backs with progressive offset. At address, you can see the cavity undercut jut out a bit behind the relatively thin top line. You’re not going to be fooled into thinking you’re playing blades but they do have a clean look for cavity backs.

The Cleveland Tour Action irons also have a healthy face depth. There is enough real estate up and down the face to eliminate your thin shots. However, I did have some issues with digging.

Overall though, the Cleveland Tour Action irons have a light, wieldy feel. I found myself falling into a groove with them relatively quickly.

Are the Cleveland Tour Action Irons Forgiving for High Handicappers?

cleveland cg7 tour irons

“The best thing about the Cleveland Tour Action irons for high handicappers is that they have a big sweet spot.”

After just a few swings, I found the rhythm of these irons and was able to hit the expansive sweet spot consistently. The offset is generous in the long irons which didn’t look great to me; but it did provide excellent forgiveness.

The combination of the pronounced offset and the large sweet spot made the long irons in this set very easy to manage. And the long irons are notorious for giving neophyte players trouble so I would say that these irons are forgiving for high handicappers.

The large cavity back design helps to push mass towards the perimeter of the head. This stabilizes much of your common mis-hits.

The distance I was getting from these irons was a bit above average. With the 7-iron, I was averaging 158.7 yards. The dispersion was also reasonably tight when I stayed within the scoring lines.

And while the sweet spot is wide and hard to miss, if you do manage to miss it, don’t expect much forgiveness. On shots that missed the sweet spot, my ball was picking up a ton of spin and losing a lot of speed. As a result, my divergence widened and my carry distance dropped.

Cleveland Tour Action Vs Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons

“The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo’s are hybrid irons with a hollow body design.”

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons also come stock with counterbalanced shafts. The Launcher XL Halo irons are extremely forgiving but they offer no workability. Also, if you aren’t used to counterbalanced shafts, they may feel weird to you. I would only recommend the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons to pure beginners.

Cleveland Tour Action First Impressions

cleveland cg7 tour irons

“I liked the fact that the Cleveland Tour Action irons did in fact offer a moderate degree of workability in a forgiving iron.”

They don’t really look like blades which is something I was expecting and hoping for. But I was able to work the ball left and right to a moderate degree. They aren’t massive irons. Instead, they have a moderate head size which strikes a really good balance between forgiveness and versatility.

Cleveland Tour Action Selling Points

  • Micro cavities
  • Progressive offset
  • Good face depth
  • Vibration absorption system
  • Large sweet spot

Cleveland Tour Action Key Technology

Vibration absorption system.

The VAS is designed to smooth out those harsh vibrations when you miss the sweet spot. I had no problem with the feel of these irons. They felt smooth and consistent all across the face.

Micro Cavities

The small cavities bored behind the top line work to redistribute weight low in the club head. They also appear to be filled with some sort of polymer or urethane which may contribute to the smooth feel.

Deep Face Profile

The deep face profile makes it much more difficult to hit the ball thin. For me though, the same feature was causing me to dig more than usual on the fairway.

Cleveland Tour Action Loft & Lie

Who should buy the cleveland tour action irons.

cleveland cg7 tour irons

“This was a tricky one to decide.”

First of all, I would say that Cleveland did in fact do a good job of making an iron that was at once forgiving and workable. The Cleveland Tour Action irons are inherently forgiving and it takes extreme mis-hits to affect their accuracy.

They can be point-and-shoot irons, and for more skilled players, they can be worked side-to-side a bit. So in the end, I suppose these irons would work for high and mid handicappers. Pretty much anyone in the 12-24 handicap range.

Distance: 96/100

Forgiveness: 96/100, workability: 96/100, overall performance: 96/100, value: 97/100.

Best of Moscow by high speed train

By shuguley , February 15, 2014 in Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Cool Cruiser

Sure would appreciate someone who has taken "Best of Moscow by high speed train" from St. Petersburg could please share their impressions of this shore excursion. From the description this sounds like a very long day.

Wondering how the 4 hour train trip was in terms of accommodations, etc. Also what time did you leave the ship and what time at night did you return? Were both legs of the trip on the high speed rail (I read that slower trains also travel the same tracks)?

My wife and I are considering this excursion. We thought that if we are making all the effort to go to Russia then how could we pass up going to Moscow, walking in Red Square, seeing St. Basil, etc.

If you are considering this on the 2015 June Baltic cruise on Voyager; my suggestion is don't. There is so much to do in St. Petersburg and although a train is one of my favorite ways to travel the time would be far better spent in St. P.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, this would be on the Voyager during the 2015 season but not yet sure exactly which cruise.

5,000+ Club

We did the Moscow excursion "on a different luxury line", but from your brief description it sounds very much like the same trip, so I will operate on that assumption. It is a VERY long day! We left the ship at 5:30 AM and returned at 12:30 AM. The highspeed train trip is comfortable, and while they call it "Business Class" it does not compare well to the equivalent class on say Rail Europe. When we did it in 2011, we did have highspeed both ways, and the trip back seemed much longer as the adrenaline and excitement had worn off!:D

Moscow itself is not that terribly different from any other big city in the world, but this Cold War kid never thought he would ever stand in Red Square, never mind walk the grounds of The Kremlin, or tour The Kremlin Palace, or see (but not visit) Lenin's Tomb, or visit The Armoury. But he did, and he loved every minute of it! Yes, it is a long day, and you barely scratch a scratch on the surface, but it is worth it. There is a tremendous amount to see in St. Petersburg, but every Baltic cruise goes to St. Petersburg, so you can go back if you choose to. Not every cruiseline offers you the chance to see Moscow.

RachelG

I have not personally done this tour, but our last time in St Petersburg, the private guide that we hired for a day was leading the regent tour to Moscow on the high speed train the next day. He said it was way better than the previous alternative, which was flying to Moscow and back. He said that you actually got to Moscow faster because you didn't have to deal with airline checkin etc. it did seem like a very long day to me, and there is so much to see and do in st. Petersburg that I didn't consider doing it.

We toured to Moscow from St. Petersburg via the hi-speed SAPSAN train last September, from a Baltic cruise on the Oceania Marina. You need to have a two-night, three day port call in St. Petersburg to take this tour because the tour typically leaves the ship around 5:00 - 5:30 AM and doesn't return until after midnight the next day. We didn't take the ship's tour; we made private arrangements with TravelAllRussia for three days of touring, the first and third days in St. Petersburg and the second day the tour to Moscow by train. Our cost for the private tour for three days was about the same as what the ship charged for the excursion to Moscow alone. There are a number of private tour agencies that operate in St. Petersburg and offer the Moscow train tours; we would strongly recommend them over the ship's tours.

All three days had private guides with car and driver. The second day, the driver picked us up at the ship and took us to the train, but we were alone on the train, and met in Moscow by the guide on the station platform. After our tour and dinner, we were brought back to the train and after the return train trip met by the driver and taken back to the ship. Because you are alone on the train you must have your own Russian visas.

If this is your first visit to St. Petersburg, I would agree there is much more to see there. We found Moscow somewhat a disappointment, particularly Red Square. The Kremlin and the cathedral in Red Square were also worth seeing. But the best thing we saw was the Moscow subway! I worked for the Washington Metro system back in the 1980s as it grew from 40 to 80 miles and although I was in the computer area, I learned a lot about the challenges of running a subway system. We used the Moscow system to get across the city from where we had dinner to the train station, and I was amazed at the cleanliness', speed of operation, the short headways maintained, and the courtesy of everyone involved. A very impressive experience!

We had been to St. Petersburg before, and so had the time to take a day and go to Moscow. Also, I really like trains, and the SAPSAN is a German train set running on Russian rails. Seats are like first class domestic air, spacious but not too plush or comfortable, but with enough room. Not too much recline, and almost 8 hours on the train in two shots is a lot for an old man. They come through and sell drinks, candy, etc. but the sellers don't speak English and no one around us helped, so we had just poor coffee once coming, and brought stuff with us for the trip back. Not too much to see from the train either, particularly on the return when it is night the whole way.

If you decide to go, take a private tour and avoid the overly expensive ship's tour. I'm glad we did it, but wouldn't bother to repeat the tour; we've seen Moscow.

Thanks so much to all of you for the thorough and thought insight. Yhe information you have provided is most helpful.

countflorida: Your detailed post is very helpful. We are not quite ready for a Baltic cruise but should do so within a year. Time enough to do our pre travel research, bookings and visa gathering.:) Thank you!

Basil, etc.

I did this on Seabourn. IMO DONT. Take Aeroflop (er Aeroflot). The train has non folding seats where you are literally knee to knee with your fellow passenger (facing each other). Further they don't believe in air conditioning. It's also the worlds slowed bullet train. I think I would have found more enjoyment wandering around the St. Petersburg and Moscow airports.

Countflorida,

This is a little off topic,, however we had planned a river cruise in Russia but decided we would rather stay on land and have booked about two weeks with Travel-All-Russia using the private guide and driver. I'm curious as to how you found them as a tour company.

The guides they provided were fine. We had a different guide each of the days in St. Petersburg, but both were flexible, pleasant, knowledgeable and spoke English very well, as did the guide in Moscow, incidentally. She was a bit aloof, distant, not too friendly, but otherwise fine. In fact, she was the one who suggested taking the Metro, which unexpectedly became one of the highlights of the Moscow excursion. If I have a complaint with AllTravelRussia, it is with their plan and its execution (more later).

I had requested emphasis on World War II (in Russia, the Great Patriotic War) sites and info. In scheduling us, they weren't careful about dates and a couple of the sites we wanted to see were scheduled on the third day, after we'd been to Moscow. But both sites were closed that day of the week, and that info was readily available, right on web sites describing them. Also, the included meals (lunches in St. Pete, dinner in Moscow) were not what we asked for: light meals with some choices, so we could avoid things we didn't like and choose things we did like. My request was ignored; we were given full Russian meals with a fixed menu, no choice. On the first day, a fish dish was the entre, but I am allergic to fish. Fortunately, I had the e-mail I'd sent with me and showed it to the guide, and she was able to change my entre to chicken, which was very good actually. But we didn't want a 3-4 course lunches or dinner (in Moscow). We had the guide drop the lunch the third day, although we never got any credit or refund. But, particularly in contrast to the ship's tours, the prices were so reasonable we didn't worry too much about it.

The people who were on the ship's tour to Moscow saw us boarding the same train for which they were forced to queue up and wait on the way back, and asked us what we had done. I was candid and open so they were not happy when I explained what we had arranged and particularly what it had cost. Also, when we returned to the ship, we found they had laid on a late supper for those who had gone to Moscow, so up we went and had something. Well, it turns out the late supper was supposed to be just for those on the ship's tour, but we and others on 'independent' tours, there were a dozen or more of us, crashed the party, actually got there first, and they didn't realize it until the larger group arrived and there weren't enough tables/places set. By that time, the 'independents' had all gotten served and were eating; what could they do?

A couple from the larger group sat down with us and asked us about our tour, and they were the ones I told about our arrangement and its cost. They turned to others who’d been with them and announced the details, loudly enough so the whole room heard, which started a lot of bitching and complaining. I gathered they weren't very happy with the ship's tour to begin with, and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. We finished up and beat it out of there, but overheard later that one of the excursion staff came to check on something and ran into a real mess. I caught a cold on the trip, which forced me to bed the second day following in Tallinn, so by the time we reappeared we heard about the contretemps' but apparently no one recalled who started it, thankfully.

Because of what happened to us, I would probably not use AllTravelRussia if I were to go again, or if I did, I would be sure to get confirmation of every detail of the tour. They do have good reviews generally, and we were certainly helped by their visa department and liked the guides and drivers. Their weakness, I say now with full 20:20 hindsight, is that once the sales person who plans the tour, sells it to you and collects your money, he (or she) transfers the plan to their Russia office for implementation; there is no follow-up to make sure it gets done right. And that is where our problems arose; we paid for a custom tour but got a standard package with a few destinations switched, and no one checked them out, even to see when they were open the day we were scheduled to go. If you check every detail that’s important to you, it should be OK, but that’s a hell of a way to have to do business, in my opinion.

Thank you for the 20/20 hindsight observation on your Russian tour operator, and better priced than the ship's excursion cost.

Thanks very much for the feedback.

We had the same experience as you so far as price. We originally booked a Viking Cruise but, hearing some things about the river cruises that made us unhappy, looked into other options. T-A-R cost the same or less than a cruise and had us in hotels for 11 days. We opted for the private tour. They have three tour levels, based on hotels. We originally opted for the four star as it did not cost much more than the three star hotels. Finally we decided to throw it all in and upgraded to five star. In Moscow we will be at the newly opened Kempinsky which is two blocks from Red Square. In St. Petersburg it is the Grand Hotel Europe, one of the most vaunted luxury hotels in Russia. Location is important for us as the tours use up only part of the day so being in the center of everything for our independent touring is important. As with many other cities, the less you pay, the farther out of the center of town you are.

We have been working with our salesman in D.C. and he seems to get back to us with the changes we want. He recently returned from Russia so is up on everything. When I asked they said they paid the full TA commission if I wanted so I got my usual TA on board so he is watching our back and giving us that extra level of comfort. He also set up our air, which I know pays him little or nothing, and got us business class for much less than T-A-R wanted for economy, though it took working for a while with a consolidator. He's happy to get his 10 percent on this trip without having booked it. He also took care of the trip insurance. We've been doing a lot of research on the CC sister site Trip Advisor and will write a report there. We will, I guess, become a source of info for CC members after having spent 5 days in Moscow and 6 in SP.

High-end cocktails in a dim and well-appointed "speakeasy" with friendly, competent service and complex, excellent drinks (a pink peppercorn vodka/guava take on a Moscow Mule called El Chapo is probably my favorite). The menu has a Michelin-esque legend showing the intensity of each drink and details of its preparation down to the type ice used and glass in which it is served. With crafted cocktails like these, there is a little bit of an extra wait which is worth it as it is a very pleasant way to relax in the cushy surroundings. There is some interesting light fare available which I did not get a chance to try, though not a full food menu.

All in all, pretty decent place. Top end prices for Cleveland and there's not much to do. I will say, this place makes the best Moscow mule I've ever had. From Vegas to London, I have never had a better mule .

Different vibe .. But that's a good thing! It's a break from your normal downtown Cleveland scene. Moscow mule is good and the wrapped dates are good! So far that's all I've experienced but will definitely be back to try more! The place is not that big so it doesn't take much to fill up..be mindful of that if you're coming with a larger group. If you're in the mood for some specialty drinks and foods in a non-traditional Cleveland atmosphere Society Lounge is your place!

I love this little hidden gem on East 4th Street.  The atmosphere is great. It has a retro, 50s vibe and the drinks match that feel! It has a very upscale, ritzy feel - but in a good way. It is definitely pricey and the drinks take awhile to come out, but I think it's worth the wait. The menu has TONS of unique drinks to pick from. I love the French 75 and the good ol' fashion, Moscow Mule .   There is usually a singer performing and he has a Frank Sinatra persona, which is cool. The wait staff is always super friendly.  The last time we were there, I made a last minute reservation and they were very accommodating. Our drinks also took a REALLY long time to come out so she gave us a discount, which was very nice of her, I think everyone needs to try this place at least once!

My introduction to this jazzy bar was through local Cleveland residents. Being new to this area, I relied on the locals to decide my Saturday night ventures. Situated in the hub of activity on 4th street this place is your poison if you are looking for a classy, upscale, sophisticated venue for your evening. The ambience of this place screams romance. The dim lights, live jazz music comfy lounge chairs all set the mood for a romantic evening. What seals the deal: the amazing signature drinks and the efficient staff. I tried the Moscow mule , agave herb smash, 4th street sour and a drink with egg whites(can't remember the name).... In a word...all were delicious!!! The Moscow mule was my personal favorite of the four I tried. Lost society was definitely the best way to kick start my adventures at the CLE!

A great speakeasy with live music on Saturday nights. A nice location too right on E. 4th where everything is happening. We enjoyed listening to crooner Phil Turk all night on Saturday. He was great! He sings from 9pm to midnight every week. The drinks were very good (A bit pricey) but good. The Moscow Mules were $12 and a beer will cost you $8. Feels a bit like going out in LA but you do pay for a classy venue and live music. I loved the set up of the bar and that there were a lot of tables and seats for everyone. We had the best seat in the house on the red velvet couch right in front of the piano. I would recommend getting there early to secure a spot. A great place for a date night since it is a cozy and romantic setting!

Hands down my favorite place to enjoy a night out in Cleveland. I'll preface this by saying that I'm a beer girl - craft beer, lite beer, college student beer, I don't discriminate and I choose to come here for cocktails instead because they are that good! Society Lounge is not a place for beer; it is a place for cocktails. Strong cocktails, girly cocktails, unique cocktails - all delicious cocktails. Dont be surprised when you ask for a miller lite and get an annoyed look from the bartender. It isn't because the place is stuck up, it's because they love their trade and want to share their specialties with you! The menu is separated by apertifs, classics, originals, digestifs, and shareables. If you know what you like in a drink, each menu item has symbols next to it to reflect strength, taste (bitter, sweet, balanced etc), type of ice, and type of glass. If this all sounds too complicated and you just want a damn drink already (!), tell the bartender or server what type of liquor and/or cocktails that you usually enjoy and get their recommendation - I've never been lead astray. My go-to drink is the cucumber gimlet. I don't think it's even on the menu anymore and the bartenders still happily make it for me. Muddled cucumber, gin, simple syrup, lime juice, oh my! It's refreshing and balanced and is exactly what you will want after a long day of work...and I love gin. I don't think I've ever come to Society and NOT gotten this drink, I buy it for my friends who normally drink gin or vodka tonics, I dream about this drink. My point is - try it!! I like all of their gin drinks if I'm honest, but on to the whiskey and bourbon. A whiskey sour with egg whites is a nice classic - the egg whites just make it frothy and somehow the perfect texture for the flavor. They do a nice classic manhattan and old fashioned, but if looking for something a little different the "maple old fashioned" has maple syrup and a cinnamon and orange flavor and the "hamhattan" has pork infused bourbon and mustard bitters - yum! I've recently been ordering the "smoke & blood" which is a little on the sweeter side with cherry an orange flavors along with your whiskey, just a nice smooth drink. The champagne drinks are good if the evening calls for champagne. I am told the Moscow mule is the best in the city. The coffee drinks are also delightful. There's truly something for everyone on the menu. Atmosphere is great, not too loud for date night drinks earlier in the evening but a little louder after 10pm. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights. The bartenders and servers are always on point and the manager is usually there on weekend nights as well. They all want to make the place succeed and it shows. Cheers!

We went to Society after a dinner out for a friend's 30th birthday. Holy Hipsters! I had some jackrabbit drink and a Moscow mule . My husband had a coffee cocktail. Seating at tables is reservation only. It was pretty packed the whole time we were there. Our waitress was attentive but it takes a long, long time to get drinks. Their drinks are high quality and come with a high price tag to match. While the drinks were good, I fully admit this place was not my style and I highly doubt I'll ever return. I'm torn on my rating. I'd give it a 3, personally...just because of the hipster factor...but it honestly probably deserves 4 stars.

GREAT bar!!!!  It's very upscale and isn't cheap, but it's worth every scent.  I usually get Maker's straight up, but they make all of their own mixers fresh and after trying a friends Moscow Mule , they are amazing.  The atmosphere is perfect, as it feels like I'm at an upscale ultralounge in Vegas.  Come here whenever you can, it's downtown's version of the Velvet Tango Room.

Awesome drinks, worth the wait. We came here for An American Marketing Event downtown. We even had to enter with the password provided. The event itself was great and the bar has a really cool setup. The decor and atmosphere are perfect for the speak easy theme. They had some great signature drinks but I went with the classics; Old Fashioned's and Moscow Mules . They were good! Like really good. It did take a while for them to make the drinks. Yes I factored the crowd into it too. They just seemed to really take their time and I am ok with that. The quality was more important to me anyway. I will probabaly be back, most likelt after a great meal at Lola's!

So I've been to society Lounge a few more times since my first review. My second experience was way to similar to my first. But the next two times (most recent being last night) - I went because the people I was with wanted to go. I actually got drinks these two times!! Success?! The drinks are good! So far I haven't had anything I haven't enjoyed- I've had the Moscow mule , margarita, mojito, and have tried whatever my friends have ordered and have liked everything. I still like the atmosphere- one of the times I went, there was a guy singing frank Sinatra and he was amazing. I met his brother and mom who told me he sang some Saturdays - haven't been back on a Saturday but I hope he's still there! The staff still just seems like they're running around with their heads chopped off- maybe they should hire more people??

Had wonderful after dinner drinks here. Moscow Mule was delicious when your drink calls for lime juice you are receiving fresh squeezed lime juice. All their employees are very knowledgeable about their drinks and how they make their ingredients. Love the decor and theme of true mixology they are bringing back. I will definitely be back to enjoy more cocktails.

This ain't no Velvet Tango Room. I dropped in for a night cap after attending a sporting event downtown shortly after Society Lounge opened. I had to laugh because it was a chilly night and I said to the doorman that it must be tough to work outside and he told me he was "freezing his ass off." Swanky seeming place...sport bar mouthed doorman? I ordered what I pretty much always order - a Moscow Mule . It came in a copper mug (as it should) but the copper straw that came along with it? Kind of awkward. And completely got in my way. I took it out of my drink and was afraid that it was going to roll off my table and onto the floor. It was ok tasting. Something about the vibe made me not want to stay and have another drink. Maybe they're trying too hard to be swanky? This isn't somewhere I plan on rushing back to, but...it's a nice addition to the E. 4th area.

Disclaimer:  The following is my opinion only, and yes, I'm a cocktail snob. Sue me. I'm sorry Society.  I will come back so that you can redeem yourself. You're so new, it's not your fault.  You haven't had time to distinguish yourself yet.  I know the kinks will be ironed out, I'm sure. It certainly doesn't help that I'm comparing you to PTD/Employees Only and other various speakeasys/lounges in NYC and Manifesto in KCMO.  But good news, you're the place to be. I've never seen so many hot scantily-clad platform-wearing ladies on the prowl in Cleveland before. Single men, this is prime pick up territory.  You're welcome. Experience:  Experience is what this place is trying to sell you.  The following statement is going to sound ridiculous until you experience it yourself.  Outside is a little red carpet, a a swanky door man with a red velvet rope, and a classy sign.  But once you enter the outside door, you encounter the most well light generic office building stairs ever. It killed the vibe that this place is trying to create.  Enter door number two downstairs, and you are back into the classy lounge you were seeking with couches, tables, a piano and a lovely full wall mural.  Two, the place seemed to be understaffed as I watched waitresses doing their best to accommodate the full house of a Saturday night at 9:30pm.  Our waitress was timely and sweet, given the bustle.  Third, the lounge singer tried a bit too hard.  He has an excellent voice on his own, and he needn't push himself for the Rat Pack style, as this bordered on cheesy and sacrificed his actual voice.  Kudos to raising the bar and having a live singer though. Anyone can pipe in some music. At the end of the night, your bill arrives tucked away in a cigar box.  Note on the ladies' room:  large, pristine, excellent lighting and mirrors, including a full length mirror if you need one. Bonus! Cocktails:  You MUST request some Luxardo cherries.  They are amazingly good for being a simple cherry.  I started with the Matador.  I couldn't taste any of the tequila, it was smooth, bright and quite refreshing, very balanced, but nothing spectacular.  Next I had the Singapore Sling, which was super boozy, large, also very balanced, not too sweet or fruity.  It came with a gratuitous amount of fruit accoutrements as I had hoped. :)  I also tasted the Ramos Gin Fizz, the Moscow Mule , and the Monkey Gland. Each one was balanced and smooth.  The menu is expansive and full of classics, but for a place that wants to be known for cocktails, the classics are executed very well but they are TOO classic for me.  Unless a straight up Negroni or Scofflaw is all you want of course.  I've seen more inventive twists on original cocktails at BottleHouse and The Fairmount.  There is room for growth through if Society wants to raise the bar for cocktails in Cleveland. Cheers!

What we say...

CG Tour irons take muscle-back blades to a new level of feel and performance with a softer and more responsive feel than most traditional blades. Made from 8620 carbon steel, the Cleveland CG Tour irons’ Tour proven shape was designed with the better player in mind. Their square toe and thin top line fit the better player’s eye and their progressive offset allows for increased workability and control. The Cleveland CG Tour irons’ larger face design gives them increased stability while their increased muscle helps move the center of gravity (CG) lower and deeper within the clubhead to promote a higher ball flight, especially in the long irons. The CG Tour irons also boast precision milled faces and score lines, which gives players increased accuracy. These muscle back irons come in a platinum chrome finish to reduce glare at address.

The CG Tour irons are tour-inspired blades played by Boo Weekly, Woody Austin and Jerry Kelly. These elegant irons are made from 8620 carbon steel feature a Platinum finish, with precision milled faces and score lines.

The Tour-proven shape of the CG Tour features a larger face with a square toe and thin top line to fit the better player's eye. A progressive offset allows for increased workability and control. The CG Tour muscle back design adds an enlarged muscle for optimum trajectory and distance control.

Blade, steel shaft, graphite shaft, gents, LH, RH.
