Goon Over Miami: Jets Assistant Coach Apologizes for Tripping Dolphins Player

a169855e-

Dec. 12: New York Jets assistant Sal Alosi apologized after blatantly tripping Miami's Nolan Carroll on the sideline during Gang Green's 10-6 loss to the Dolphins Sunday.

New York Jets assistant coach Sal Alosi apologized after blatantly tripping Miami's Nolan Carroll on the sideline during Gang Green's 10-6 loss to the Dolphins Sunday.

The strength and conditioning coach was ushered out of New Meadowlands Stadium by a staff member, ignoring interview requests by the New York Post and protected by two security members at an exit.

After the Jets confirmed he was the guilty tripper and the NFL announced it was reviewing the play, Alosi apologized.

"I made a mistake that showed a total lapse in judgment," Alosi said in a statement, adding that he apologized to Carroll and Dolphins coach Tony Sparano .

"My conduct was inexcusable and unsportsmanlike and does not reflect what this organization stands for. I accept responsibility for my actions as well as any punishment that follows."

"The team is reviewing the situation and is looking into the appropriate next steps,'' Jets media chief Bruce Speicht said in a statement.

During the third quarter of the game, Alosi -- on the sidelines wearing Jets raingear and white tennis shoes -- appeared to stick his left knee out and tripped Carroll as the cornerback ran out of bounds on punt coverage. Carroll fell and had to be attended to by medical staff on the Jets sideline, before eventually returning.

Alosi, who was wearing a green hat at the time, conspicuously switched to a black hat in the middle of the game. Then he took the hat off altogether.

UConn hires former coach who tripped NFL player

  • Copy Link copied

MANSFIELD, Conn. (AP) — The University of Connecticut has hired a former NFL coach to the men’s basketball team who made national headlines for tripping a player.

UConn announced Wednesday it has hired Sal Alosi as the team’s director of human performance. The 41-year-old will replace Ed Streit, who was last season’s strength and conditioning coach.

Alosi was suspended and fined $25,000 by the New York Jets in 2010 after he tripped a Miami Dolphins player during a game.

He was later hired by the University of California, Los Angeles, where he got into a confrontation with Sean “P. Diddy” Combs in 2015.

UConn men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley says Alosi has learned from his experiences and will bring “intensity and toughness” to the team.

The details of his contract have not been released.

Coach trips player in jets-dolphins game.

Wright Bryan

While the game that wasn't was Sunday's big story in the NFL (along with the Patriot's 36-7 pasting of the Bears on a very snowy Soldier Field in Chicago), the Jets-Dolphins game in Miami featured the day's most regrettable moment.

Jets' strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi was caught by TV cameras tripping Miami's Nolan Carroll as he ran out of bounds on a punt coverage in the third quarter. The NFL said Monday that it is investigating the incident. Alosi has issued a statement apologizing for the trip saying, in part:

"My conduct was inexcusable and unsportsmanlike and does not reflect what this organization stands for. ... I accept responsibility for my actions as well as any punishment that follows."

Carroll had little to say about the incident after the game. But teammate Channing Crowder was incensed. ESPN quotes the Dolphins linebacker saying :

"I wish they'd tripped me. I'd have broken that old man's leg. I didn't see anything. He stuck his leg out and tripped him? He should be ashamed of himself. A grown man from the coaching staff? That's high character."

Fox News dubbed the trip " Goon Over Miami " in a story that said Alosi tried to go incognito during the game:

Alosi, who was wearing a green hat at the time, conspicuously switched to a black hat in the middle of the game. Then he took the hat off altogether.

While the Jets and the NFL try to digest this bizarre event, the Dolphins' can take heart from a the fact that Carroll and the rest of the team walked away from the game with a 10-6 victory .

UPDATE AT 7:37 P.M. ET: The Jets announced later on Monday that Alosi would be immediately suspended without pay for the rest of the season, including the playoffs, and fined an additional $25,000.

Jets Coach Trips Player (VIDEO)

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll was tripped by the New York Jets' strength and conditioning coach on the sideline while covering a punt in the third quarter of Miami's 10-6 victory Sunday.

The rookie fell to the turf while running down the sideline, and the Jets' Sal Alosi later admitted he interfered with Carroll.

"I made a mistake that showed a total lapse in judgment," Alosi said in a statement released by the Jets about 2 1/2 hours after the game. "My conduct was inexcusable and unsportsmanlike and does not reflect what this organization stands for."

Carroll, who had an interception in the first quarter to set up a field goal, lay on the field for several minutes before walking off. He got back into the game in the fourth period.

Carroll said he was not angry about the incident.

"We got a W. That's not my problem," Carroll said. "That's the Jets' problem. We just move on. I felt contact, but I've got to watch film. I can't comment on it right now."

Jets coach Rex Ryan said he was unaware of the situation until informed by Bruce Speight, the team's director of media relations, after the loss. Ryan said the Jets would investigate the matter.

Then Alosi confessed.

"I spoke to coach (Tony) Sparano and Nolan Carroll to apologize before they took off," Alosi said. He added he apologized to Ryan, general manager Mike Tannenbaum and owner Woody Johnson.

"I accept responsibility for my actions as well as any punishment that follows," he said.

Alosi could face discipline from the Jets and from the NFL.

"The only thing I know ... is that my guys were screaming up there at the time," Sparano said. "When Nolan was down on the ground and they showed the thing, somebody from that sideline stuck a foot out. I talked to the referee. I didn't see it at that particular time. I told him at that point that it was on tape and the people upstairs are telling me that's what they see."

Sparano said he would send the film to the league.

"I don't know what else can be done," Sparano said. "There was a player down on the sideline and that's not good. We're trying to take care of players in this game."

Alosi was with the Jets from 2001-2005, then worked for the Falcons for one season. He returned to the Jets in 2007.

Alosi was a linebacker for Hofstra from 1996-2000.

The Miami Dolphins players weren't happy with the New York Jets , specifically assistant coach Sal Alosi for tripping Nolan Carroll on the sidelines during the game. The words " cheaters " and "What did you expect?" were the common reaction from the players.

Here's a sampling of the reactions on the video (via Jeff Darlington):

- Karlos Dansby says the trip should be the first video shown on ESPN's "C'mon Man!" Monday night.

- Channing Crowder says he would break that "old man's legs" if he tripped him.

-Nolan Carroll had very little to say and obviously didn't want to stir the pot.

The Jets assistant coach has apologized and the NFL confirmed they were reviewing the matter.

The second annual NFL Players Association player survey was the first time head coaches and ownership groups were ranked and graded.

More than half of the league’s head coaches were given an A- or better, but three head coaches stood out as among the best bosses in the business .

Leading the way was three-time Super Bowl champion and Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who received a 9.77 out of 10 from his players. Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell was ranked second and was ranked first in the “willing to listen to the locker room” category. Dan Campbell, the Detroit Lions head coach, was third overall and the only other coach to receive an A+.

Nine coaches received “A” marks and another seven got A-.

On the flipside, former Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera had the second-lowest grade (C), while fired Las Vegas Raiders head man Josh McDaniels received a D. Coaches were graded overall, how much they were willing to listen to players, and how efficient they were with players’ time.

Jimmy Johnson, Hall of Famer with 49ers, dies at 86

The defensive back played his entire 16-year pro career with San Francisco.

Jimmy Johnson, a Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back, multiple-time all-pro and member of the All-Decade Team of the 1970s, died May 8 at 86.

His family announced the death but did not provide further details.

Mr. Johnson, inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1994, played his entire 16-year pro career with San Francisco. He appeared in 213 games, more than any other 49ers player at the time of his retirement.

The 49ers drafted Mr. Johnson sixth overall in 1961 out of UCLA — the Chargers of the upstart AFL took him in the fourth round of that league’s draft — and he became a starter almost immediately as a cornerback. He had five interceptions as a rookie.

But he was so versatile that the Niners used Mr. Johnson on offense in 1962, when he made 34 receptions for 627 yards and scored four touchdowns.

Preventing opponents from compiling such stats was his forte, however, and by 1964 Mr. Johnson was a fixture on the corner. He remained there until retiring after the 1976 season, totaling 47 interceptions, returning two for scores, and earning a reputation as a stingy cover man with a nose for the ball.

It reached the point when Mr. Johnson was at his peak that opponents rarely threw his way. He was Deion Sanders long before Prime Time hit the NFL.

“Jim doesn’t receive much publicity because the opposition avoids him as much as possible,” San Francisco quarterback John Brodie once said. “Talk to veteran quarterbacks like John Unitas and Bart Starr and they’ll tell you they call few pass patterns in Jimmy’s area. The only reason Johnson doesn’t lead the league in interceptions is he doesn’t get the chance.”

Former 49ers coach Dick Nolan once said Mr. Johnson was a better cornerback than two of his other players, (Hall of Famer) Mel Renfro and (all-pro) Cornell Green with the Cowboys.

James Earl Johnson was born in Dallas on March 31, 1938. His father picked sugar cane and performed odd jobs, and the family eventually settled in Kingsburg, Calif., near the cotton fields of the San Joaquin Valley.

The younger brother of Olympic decathlon champion Rafer Johnson , Jimmy Johnson played two ways at UCLA. He was a wingback on offense and a defensive back, while also competing in track as a hurdler and broad jumper.

Rafer Johnson died in 2020, also at 86. A complete list of survivors was not immediately available.

After retiring from the NFL, Jimmy Johnson became a motivational speaker and worked as a player agent and Stanford University assistant coach and assistant athletic director, among other jobs.

how many players travel with nfl team

When it comes to the NFL, it's not just the players on the field that make up a team. Behind the scenes, there is an entire group of people that travel with an NFL team to ensure that everything runs smoothly. From coaches and trainers to equipment managers and medical staff, the number of individuals required to support an NFL team on the road is staggering. In this article, we will explore the various roles and responsibilities of those who accompany a team on its travels, shedding light on the often overlooked side of America's favorite sport.

What You'll Learn

Nfl travel rosters: determining how many players go on the road, factors affecting player travel: position, injuries, and situation, the role of practice squad players in nfl team travel, adjustments during covid-19: travel changes for nfl teams.

quartzmountain

When it comes to football, a lot of attention is given to the players on the field and their performances during the game. However, there is a whole team of people behind the scenes that help make the game possible, and this includes the players who travel with the team.

In the NFL, teams are allowed to have a 53-man active roster. These are the players who are eligible to play in the game and travel with the team. However, not all of these players will actually travel to every game. The number of players who travel with the team can vary depending on a few different factors.

One factor that determines the number of players who travel with the team is the position they play. For example, quarterbacks, kickers, and punters are almost always going to be included in the travel roster since their positions are crucial to the game. On the other hand, some positions may have more players on the roster, such as running backs or wide receivers, and not all of them will travel for every game.

Another factor that affects the travel roster is injuries. If a player is injured and unable to play, they will not travel with the team. This helps to keep the team focused and avoids distractions. In some cases, injured players may stay behind to receive treatment and rehabilitation.

Coaches and staff members also travel with the team. This includes the head coach, assistant coaches, trainers, and equipment managers. They play a vital role in helping the team prepare for the game and ensuring everything runs smoothly on game day.

In addition to the active roster, NFL teams also have a practice squad. This is a group of players who are not on the active roster but practice with the team throughout the week. Practice squad players are not eligible to play in games unless they are signed to the active roster. However, they may still travel with the team to gain experience and learn from the coaches and players.

Overall, the number of players who travel with an NFL team can vary depending on a few different factors such as position and injuries. It is important for teams to carefully consider their travel roster to ensure they have the right players and staff members present to give them the best chance of success on game day.

When it comes to traveling with an NFL team, a lot of factors come into play. The number of players who travel with the team can vary depending on various circumstances, including their position, injuries, and the situation at hand.

The number of players who travel with the team can vary based on their position. Generally, a team will travel with around 53 players on its active roster. This includes offensive and defensive players, as well as special teams players. However, the specific breakdown of positions can vary depending on the team's game plan and strategy for that particular game. For example, if the team plans to focus more on the running game, they may choose to bring additional running backs and offensive linemen.

Injuries can also have a significant impact on the number of players who travel with the team. If a player is injured and unable to play in the upcoming game, they will typically stay behind and receive treatment. Injured players may also be left behind if they are not expected to return to the field in the near future. This allows the team to bring in replacement players or make adjustments to the roster to ensure they have enough healthy players for the game.

The situation at hand can also affect the number of players who travel with the team. For example, if the team is playing a divisional rival and the game has playoff implications, they may choose to bring additional players to provide depth and options for different game scenarios. Conversely, if the game is against a team with a poor record and the outcome is not of great importance, the team may choose to travel with a smaller squad.

Overall, the number of players who travel with an NFL team can vary based on several factors. This includes the players' positions, any injuries they may have, and the situation surrounding the game. Ultimately, the goal is to have a roster that is well-equipped to handle the game at hand and give the team the best chance of success.

Unlocking the Power of API Data in the Travel Industry

When it comes to NFL team travel, most people think of the main roster players who are on the field come game day. However, there is another group of players who play a crucial role in the team's success, even though they may not be on the field. These players are the practice squad players.

Practice squad players are a group of individuals who are signed by NFL teams but are not part of the active roster. They are often young, talented players who are on the cusp of making it to the main roster. These players attend all team practices and meetings but are not eligible to play in games unless they are called up to the active roster.

When it comes to team travel, practice squad players are an integral part of the travel party. They travel with the team to away games, staying in the same hotels and flying on the same planes as the main roster players. This allows them to immerse themselves in the team's culture and gain valuable experience that will benefit them in their career.

However, the role of practice squad players goes beyond just being a travel companion. They serve an important purpose during the team's preparations for the game. These players are often tasked with mimicking the upcoming opponent's plays and strategies during practice. This allows the main roster players to practice against a scout team that replicates the opposition's game plan.

During the game, practice squad players are usually located on the sideline, observing and taking notes. They are responsible for analyzing the game and providing valuable insights to the coaching staff. They act as an extra set of eyes, searching for any weaknesses or opportunities that the main roster players may have missed.

While practice squad players may not have the same level of recognition or financial compensation as the main roster players, their contributions are essential to the team's success. They provide valuable assistance during practice and game preparation, allowing the team to be better prepared for their opponents.

In addition to their role during the season, practice squad players also play a crucial role in the off-season. They are often retained by the team and continue to practice with them during the off-season program. This allows them to further develop their skills and work towards earning a spot on the main roster for the upcoming season.

In conclusion, practice squad players play a vital role in NFL team travel. They travel with the team, participate in all practices and meetings, and provide valuable insights during games. Their contributions may not always be apparent, but they are essential to the team's success. So the next time you watch an NFL game, remember the unsung heroes on the sideline, the practice squad players, who play a crucial role in shaping the team's fortunes.

Understanding When a Travel Visa is Required

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about several changes and adjustments in all areas of life, and professional sports has not been immune to these changes. The National Football League (NFL) has had to make significant adjustments to its travel protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of players, coaches, and staff during these unprecedented times.

Prior to the pandemic, NFL teams would typically travel with a roster of around 53 players, along with a large entourage of coaches, trainers, medical staff, and other personnel. However, in light of the pandemic, the NFL has implemented strict guidelines and restrictions on travel.

One of the major changes is the reduced number of players and personnel allowed to travel with the team. The league has limited the number of players traveling to a maximum of 48 for each game, which includes the active roster and practice squad players. This reduction in the number of players is aimed at minimizing the risk of exposure and ensuring social distancing measures can be maintained during travel.

In addition to the reduced number of players, the NFL has also implemented strict testing protocols for all individuals traveling with the team. Players, coaches, and staff are required to undergo regular COVID-19 testing, including a pre-travel test and tests upon arrival at the destination city. These tests help identify any asymptomatic cases and prevent the spread of the virus.

Furthermore, the NFL has made changes to the way teams travel. Teams now travel on private planes, which allow for increased control and minimize the risk of exposure to the virus. Private planes enable teams to maintain social distancing measures and reduce contact with individuals outside the team's bubble. Additionally, teams are encouraged to reduce layovers and limit time spent in airports to further minimize potential exposure.

The league has also implemented strict guidelines for hotels and accommodations. Teams are required to stay in designated team hotels where they have exclusive access and can control the environment. Hotel staff are required to adhere to rigorous cleaning and disinfection protocols to ensure a safe and sanitized environment for the teams. Additionally, teams are encouraged to limit interactions with hotel staff and other guests to further reduce the risk of exposure.

Overall, the adjustments made by the NFL in terms of travel protocols aim to prioritize the health and safety of everyone involved in the game. These changes may have brought some inconveniences and challenges, but they are necessary to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission and keep the games going. By reducing the number of players traveling, implementing strict testing protocols, and ensuring safe travel and accommodation arrangements, the NFL is taking proactive measures to protect the health and well-being of its players, coaches, and staff.

Caleb Williams declared as Bears QB1 before rookie minicamp

Caleb Williams explains that he is trying to learn as much as possible after being named the Bears' starting quarterback. (0:35)

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Ahead of rookie minicamp Friday, Bears coach Matt Eberflus wasted no time in naming Caleb Williams as Chicago's starting quarterback.

"No conversation," Eberflus said. "He's the starter."

Eberflus' declaration confirmed the inevitable decision for the Bears after they drafted the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner with the No. 1 pick last month. Williams was the only quarterback the Bears hosted on a top-30 visit, and Chicago was the only team Williams visited ahead of the draft. Bears coaches began teaching the former USC quarterback their offense ahead of his pro day in Los Angeles and again while Williams visited Halas Hall in early April.

Williams also took it upon himself to work with his private quarterback coach, Will Hewlett, on the fundamentals of the Bears' offense before taking the field for this weekend's minicamp.

"You always want to get ahead if you can, and so with those things that they gave me, I would take it to my QB trainer and we would use the cadence, we would use the drops, we would use all those things so that's not something that's on my mind throughout the process of when I actually got here," Williams said.

Eberflus said the Bears gave Williams and Hewlett the basics of the offense, which the quarterback said included the verbiage, route tree, cadence, and how to operate in and out of the huddle.

The head start has given Williams the confidence to help others learn the offense at the rookie minicamp.

"Right now I feel pretty good," Williams said. "Obviously we'll go out here today, and we're going to have a few mess-ups, probably, and things like that, working to do, eliminate those as fast as possible. But you need those things to grow and progress throughout the time and years and things like that. So excited, but I feel pretty good right now."

Eberflus said the Bears have several benchmarks they expect Williams to reach over the next few months ahead of training camp.

"Full understanding of the concepts: run, pass, checks and his fundamentals," Eberflus said. "The fundamentals that we have in place for him, which, he's really good fundamentally, but we have some things we want him to work on and improve as well."

Biden falsely claims his Catholic school teacher was drafted by Green Bay Packers during Wisconsin appearance

W ASHINGTON — President Biden blurted Wednesday that one of his childhood Catholic school teachers was drafted by the Green Bay Packers — an assertion disproven by a simple check of publicly available NFL records.

The 81-year-old president shared the false claim as he boasted of his connection to Wisconsin sports fans during a trip to the swing state.

“My theology professor at the Catholic school I went to was a guy named Reilly — last name — and he had been drafted by the Green Bay Packers,” Biden said in Racine, south of Milwaukee.

“And he decided to become a priest before that, so he didn’t go. But every single solitary Monday that Green Bay won, we got the last period of the day off.”

According to Pro Football Reference , the Packers have only drafted a single person with the last name “Riley,” “Reily,” or “Reilly” since the NFL began its annual college draft in 1936.

University of Colorado quarterback Maurice “Tex” Reilly was selected with the 202nd overall pick in the 22nd round of the 1947 draft— after his education was interrupted by World Word II, during which he commanded bombing missions over the Pacific, according to a 2002 article in the Denver Post.

Instead of playing pro football, the Bronze Star recipient rejoined the US Air Force in October 1947 as a civil engineer and was deployed to Japan and later Spain.

Reilly also served as an instructor at bases in Ohio and Alabama before retiring as a major general, according to a military biography.

The White House did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Biden previously told a different version of the Packers story, describing how Archmere Academy’s headmaster Father Justin E. Diny would dismiss students early in celebration of Packers victories.

The president has a long record of embellishing stories in an attempt to establish a personal connection with his audiences.

Biden in 2021  told Jewish leaders  that he remembered “spending time at” and “going to” Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue in 2018 after the worst anti-Semitic attack in US history, in which 11 people were murdered.

Synagogue officials said Biden never visited the house of worship and the White House  later said  he was thinking about a 2019 phone call to the rabbi.

Just last month, Biden attempted to underscore his links to his childhood hometown of Scranton, Pa., by visiting a war memorial that bears his uncle Ambrose Finnegan’s name — then twice claimed his uncle, who died when his plane crashed in the Pacific Ocean in 1994, may have been eaten by cannibals .

Biden has  shared at least 13 times  as president a debunked story involving an Amtrak conductor to underscore his links to passenger rail and claimed in 2022 that his uncle Frank Biden  won the Purple Heart — even though the details of the account made it factually impossible.

Biden has  said twice that he was picked  to attend the Naval Academy, though no supporting documentation exists — and  told an Idaho audience  during his first year in office that his “first job offer” came from local lumber and wood products business Boise Cascade, which was news to the company.

He also claimed while discussing wildfire devastation in Hawaii last year that his Delaware house  “almost collapsed”  from a small kitchen fire — after telling survivors one week prior that firefighters  “ran into flames”  to rescue first lady Jill Biden.

In 2021,  Biden claimed  “we almost lost a couple firefighters” in the blaze — prompting the local fire department to release a statement calling the conflagration “insignificant.”

The latest tale comes as polls show a large majority of voters are concerned about Biden’s mental fitness for a second term.

An ABC News/Ipsos poll released this week found 81% of American adults think Biden is too old for another four-year term, while just 55% said the same of former President Donald Trump, the 77-year-old presumptive Republican nominee.

Biden’s false biographical stories stretch back decades, however.

He was forced to quit his first presidential campaign in 1987 following a scandal involving plagiarism of speeches and  a law school paper .

Biden misappropriated British politician Neil Kinnock’s family history — changing minor details to claim that “my ancestors … worked in the coal mines of Northeast Pennsylvania and would come up after 12 hours and play football for four hours.”

Biden’s ancestors, unlike Kinnock’s, didn’t mine coal.

The president  also falsely claimed in that campaign that he “graduated with three degrees from college,” was named “the outstanding student in the political science department,” “went to law school on a full academic scholarship — the only one in my class to have a full academic scholarship” and ”ended up in the top half” of his class.

None of those claims were true.

New Buccaneers WR Coach in 'Dream Scenario' With Tampa Bay

Kade kimble | may 7, 2024.

Nov 13, 2022; Munich, Germany, DEU; Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (14) celebrates

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Coming off a 9-8 season which saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers find their groove with their current core, is returning a bulk of its team from a season ago. They made solid additions in the 2024 NFL Draft, and now they're gearing up for another playoff-hopeful season.

Last season, the Buccaneers suffered a midseason losing streak. Then they found out what they had in the duo of Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans. The star wide receiver and the quarterback both re-signed with the franchise this offseason, giving the Buccaneers a clear direction.

Evans completes a solid wide receiver room of Chris Godwin, Trey Palmer and Jalen McMillan. Evans and Godwin, both of which were stars on the Buccaneers' most recent Super Bowl-winning squad, are veterans within the room.

Still, the duo of wide receivers will make life easier for the Buccaneers' new wide receivers coach in Bryan McClendon. The former Georgia coach has a big opportunity with Tampa Bay, having two veteran star wide receivers and a nice pair of young, developing wide receivers alongside them.

"Walking into a room where you have a Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, those players, makes it real easy. The thing that makes it easier is who they are as people. Those guys more so than anybody else. They understand that. Not just on the field, but off the field," McClendon said.

Evans is 30 years old and Godwin is 28 years old. The two have been doing this long enough, and they're great examples for not just the Buccaneers' wide receiver room, but the entire roster as a whole. It'll also make things much easier for McClendon.

"They want to be coached, they want to be corrected. They want to be doing everything they can do to improve their game. That's what you kind of dream of as a coach. Just talented guys that go out there and they're really striving to be as good as they can possibly be and get better every day, so that's what makes it easy."

In his presser, McClendon alluded to the fact that Godwin will return to the slot, helping open things up for the run game with Rachaad White and Bucky Irving. Having Godwin be as talented as he is combined with his willingness and open-mindedness is going to make things operate much more smoothly in the offense.

"Those guys know that there is still room for their games to improve. Those guys still have aspirations, as crazy as that might seem. Those guys have standards for themselves of where they want to play at."

With Mayfield proving he's still capable of leading a team to the playoffs a season ago, the wide receiver room and offense as a whole have a big opportunity this season. If the defense can remain stout, and the offense can function on a consistent basis in both the run and pass game, the Buccaneers' ceiling in the NFC South remains high.
