About Costa Cruises

With it's over 75-year long history Costa Cruises belongs to the traditional European cruise lines. Italian cruise ship fans feel comfortable with the typical Italian atmosphere aboard. Depending on the itinerary there are many German and international passengers as well. The cruise line convinces with a good value for money. During the school holidays many families spend their holidays on the family friendly ships of the Costa Cruises fleet.

About Costa Fortuna

The Costa Fortuna was put into service in 2003 and offers a maximum of 3,470 passengers (if the upper berths are also occupied) plenty of space to enjoy life on board. The ship is 272.20 metres long. In December 2018, the ship was redesigned in Singapore especially for the European market. The new features include the Pummid'Oro pizzeria on deck 10, the Gelateria Bar Amarillo ice cream parlor on deck 9, and also the Costa Fortuna's elegant central atrium. Three large sails dominate this and are illuminated by LEDs in different colors inspired by the yellow hues of the Costa logo. The suites have also been overhauled and now offer guests even more comfort and luxury. Following this, the Costa Fortuna returned to Europe in March 2019 and now offers cruises from Genoa (Italy). Cruises with children are particularly popular.

  • It was a wonderful experience even at this time of the year. Ship well equipped, excellent food and great shows. Also thanks to the staff in general.
  • They changed our initial booked room with another one and it had a common wall with the AC room. The noise was annoying.

The 272 meter long Costa Fortuna is one of the larger cruise ships of the Italian cruise line Costa Crociere SpA . The Destiny class ship has been sailing under the Costa flag since October 31, 2003.

Costa Fortuna in the port of Ibiza town

Costa Fortuna in the port of Ibiza town

The Costa Fortuna was built by the Fincantieri shipyards. She served in Asia in 2017 and 2018; She has been sailing in the Mediterranean since March 2019. In preparation for the European engagement, the ship was in Singapore retrofitted for around eight million euros to meet the needs of the European market.

Externally, Costa Fortuna presents itself with pleasing lines . Is eye-catching inside the ship the central atrium . The reception, tour office, shops, bars, etc. are located in the central area, which extends over three decks. The three-story on-board theater and the two show lounges are also representative.

Atrium of the Costa Fortuna

Atrium of the Costa Fortuna

The public spaces are dedicated to maritime themes. But that's not all: Ship models are reminiscent of the transatlantic liners "Michelangelo" and "Raffaello", two sister ships that were put into service shortly after World War II. Life predominantly takes place on decks 2 to 3 and 5 to 9. The remaining decks are passenger decks. The space available on the open decks and inside the ship is generously dimensioned.

Enough space at the front pool

Enough space at the front pool

Overview of all cruises with the Costa Fortuna directly from the shipping company.

A distinction is made between 1.300 interior, sea view and balcony cabins as well as 58 suites. Some of the domiciles are handicapped accessible. The majority of the cabins are on decks 1 and 2 as well as 6, 7 and 8.

The smallest cabins at around 14 square meters are the inside cabins. Sea view and balcony cabins are around 16 to 17 square meters. The balcony areas are not yet included. The size of the suites is put at 19 to 35 square meters. Samsara cabins and Samsara suites have been set up on the higher decks. The elegant and particularly comfortable cabins offer free access to the spa area.

We lived in the premium balcony cabin 8339 on deck 8. Cabin size: approx. 17 square meters plus the balcony area. As a standard cabin, it appears spacious. Up to four people could live in this family cabin; but then it gets tight.

Balcony cabin 8339

Balcony cabin 8339

The double bed is next to the window element. Cupboards and chests of drawers offer sufficient storage space; the cloakroom for two people can be conveniently accommodated in the cabin. Two large-format mirrors create pleasant visual effects, and we also like the styling and decor of the cabin.

Balcony cabin 8339

A small make-up desk or desk is available. A sofa bed and a small table complete the facility. A fairly small television showing many international programs, telephone, safe and air conditioning are of course part of the basic equipment. The lighting is neat.

The wet room is spacious and offers plenty of storage space. In contrast, the balcony lacks depth. Two chairs and a small table are part of the equipment. The backrests of the balcony chairs cannot be tilted.

Matching wall decorations

The service from our cabin steward is good. Special requests will be dealt with as quickly as possible. At Costa, you don't bother with folding soft toys out of towels. Compared to the previous year, the cabin service is only offered once a day . Welcome to the AIDA Cruises level. What the daughter has always mastered, the mother now also practices.

Food and drink on board

Restaurants.

With double occupancy of the cabins and full occupancy, a minimum of 2.716 guests travel on board the Costa Fortuna; The maximum allowed is 3.470 passengers. Eat in five restaurants. Three of the restaurants and the additional burger grill in the pool area are included in the price; the club restaurant and the pizzeria are chargeable.

The majority of passengers use the two service restaurants on decks 3 and 4 for dinner Restaurant 1965 Michelangelo and Restaurant 1965 Raffaello . Eat in two sessions. Both restaurants can serve around 1.700 guests at the same time at each mealtime. The restaurants are supplied by a central kitchen.

The Michelangelo is located aft on decks 3 and 4. As the larger of the two restaurants, it offers around 1.000 seats. The spaces between the seats are sufficient. On the third deck, the volume under the galleries is difficult to bear. The restaurant is open in the morning, at noon and in the evening. The dinner takes place in two sessions. The choice of free table times is not practiced on this Costa ship.

Ristorante Michelangelo

Ristorante Michelangelo

Costa emphasizes that all dishes are freshly prepared. In the course of the tour, the kitchen offers typical specialties from selected Italian regions. The decoration and the taste of the dishes convince us. The kitchen works mostly quickly. On the other hand, we are not always satisfied with the service, and the beverage service could also be optimized.

Ristorante Michelangelo - lower area

Ristorante Michelangelo - lower area

Breakfast is a mixture of buffet and service. In addition to the buffet food, perfect breakfasts for different nations are also served. We preferred the Norwegian breakfast with whole wheat bread and smoked salmon. Belgian guests will find the local waffle with cream. There is nothing wrong with lunch either.

The Raffaello, which can seat around 700 guests, is located amidships on decks 3 and 4. The Raffaello is only open in the evenings. The offer is identical to the Michelangelo. By the way: In the Raffaello and Michelangelo, in addition to the included dishes, specialties are also regularly offered for a fee.

Ristorante Raffaello - lower level

An alternative to the two service restaurants is the buffet restaurant located aft on deck 9. The facility doesn't appeal to us; there is a lack of chic. There is an oppressive tightness between the chairs, the aisles are mostly narrow and it is very noisy. A beverage service is not offered. The guests take care of themselves at vending machines or at manned drinks stations.

Drinks station in the buffet restaurant

Drinks station in the buffet restaurant

There is no reason to complain about the quality, variety or taste of the food. The organization of the buffet is incomprehensible. In the core area, the Costa concept dispenses with individual stations, such as those known from the Celebrity Cruises or TUI Cruises ships. There, separate stations distributed across the room prevent long waiting times. The Costa guests, on the other hand, are forced to line up at two mirror-image buffets and to work ahead. If the restaurant is very busy, there will inevitably be queues and waiting times. Inconsiderate jostling is also common. By the way, clearing and cleaning the tables leaves a lot to be desired, not only at peak times.

Buffet restaurant

Commendable: An afternoon snack is served in the buffet restaurant between 16:00pm and 17:00pm It should be noted that none of the restaurants featured serve ice cream for dessert. Ice cream lovers switch to the Gelateria Bar Amarillo and pay for the pleasure. The ice cream counter is connected to the pool bar on deck 9.

Amarillo ice cream shop

Restaurants subject to surcharge

Costa promises guests an "exclusive" experience. The partially open service restaurant is one deck above the pizzeria and two decks above the buffet restaurant. We haven't tested it. At least we know that Costa tries to keep the restaurant busy with an attractive weekly offer. For 180 euros, the three main meals can be taken in a quiet and sophisticated atmosphere. However, it is incomprehensible that two fixed table times also apply in this restaurant. That hardly creates "exclusive" experiences.

Club Restaurant

The pizzeria above the buffet restaurant on deck 19 is open between 00:1pm and 00:10am It is an unadorned restaurant with a retro look that serves as an alternative to the buffet restaurant in the morning hours. We don't see why we should eat in the pizzeria given the quality of the main restaurants.

Pizzeria Pummid'Oro

This little luxury debits the on-board account of the standard guests with 5 euros per person.

Cafés, Bars & Lounges

On our tour through the cafes, bars & lounges of the Costa Fortunaa, we work our way from deck 3 up to deck 12.

The Costa Atrium Bar is located on the 3rd deck within sight of the reception and the excursion desk. It is mostly well attended.

In front of the Ristorante Michelangelo is the two-storey one Discoteca Vulcania 1927 . Disco goers should appreciate them.

The large lounge amidships Grand Bar Conte Di Savoia 1932 occupies a privileged place. It is an important part of the entertainment program every day.

Other bars and lounges on deck 5 are the Sala Conte Verde 1923 and the lounge Leonardo da Vinci 1960 .

Sala da Ballo Conte Verde

Our favorite is the wine and piano bar Conte Rosso 1921 . Not least because of the musical entertainment offered there. However, the seating should be more comfortable.

We always associate Italy with delicious coffee and don't understand why there is no quiet, intimate café on the Costa Fortuna. We are also surprised that we cannot find a single cozy bar on the whole ship .

After all, the menu and bar cards offer a wide selection of drinks. The price level is still acceptable compared to US ships. Costa also offers different beverage packages. A thorough examination of the content doesn't hurt.

Sport & Wellness

Costa Fortuna has a decent range of indoor and outdoor sports activities. Team players use the multi-purpose sports field Campo da Gioco on deck 12. The facility is suitable for football, volleyball or basketball.

Campo da Gioco

The 11 meter short one is on deck 180 Jogging course . Those who want to go more undisturbed should switch to the mostly deserted boat deck (deck 3).

The fitness center is well equipped and the devices are state-of-the-art. The access, separated by gender, is through the spa and past the saunas.

Two Swimming pools and four Hottubs form the pool landscape. As is so often the case on cruise ships, the size of the pools is more suitable for refreshment than for sporting activities. The aft basin is located under a retractable glass roof. It is incomprehensible that this pool and the two hot tubs are used almost exclusively by children of all ages and individual family members. The associated noise development is accordingly.

Oceania pool

You can slide on the Costa Fortuna. A winding one Slide leads from the top deck three decks lower.

Sun worshipers can enjoy the spacious Sundecks comfortable. It is probably not a problem to get hold of a deck chair. However, there is a lack of shady places.

Wellness treatments are available in Club Salute Saturnia 1927 . The 1.300 square meter spa area offers guests all kinds of things. Saunas, steam baths and massage therapies create good wellness experiences.

Samsara Spa

The entertainment on offer is as colorful and varied as the day is long.

During the day, guests are entertained in a variety of ways. The program includes bingo, handicraft lessons, quiz events, dance lessons, beach parties or a pasta party by the pool. The name of a well-known Italian pasta manufacturer is of course mentioned.

Twice evenings in the three-story Rex Theater organized varied stage shows. The technical equipment of the theater is apparently state-of-the-art. The connection between video effects and stage reality is remarkable.

As for the live music in the bars and lounges: there is a lot on offer, from classical to pop. The ability and repertoire of the musicians are to be commended. The volume associated with the performances is often criticized. With our southern neighbors, constant noise is evidently a sign of joie de vivre.

It's on the 5th deck Casino Neptunia 1932 . The game is played at tables and machines. We have little understanding that children are allowed to be in the casino at any time . Shopping gallery is well done: fashion, bags and cosmetics are on offer.

They are on the 4th deck Gallery , internet point, the little one Ship library and the Chapel . We know the prayer room from all Costa ships. Children are supervised between 9am and midnight in the Squok Club on deck 12.

Rating of the Costa Fortuna

We tested the Costa Fortuna in May 2019 as part of a one-week Mediterranean trip from / to Genoa.

  • the generous amount of space in the public areas;
  • the general cleanliness on board the ship;
  • the tasty dishes;
  • the varied entertainment offer;
  • the appropriate price / performance ratio.
  • the cabin service, which is limited compared to previous years (service once a day);
  • the not always convincing services in the included restaurants, there is still potential for optimization;
  • the extremely high level of noise pollution in public areas;
  • Zones for those seeking peace and quiet are completely absent;
  • Small children and toddlers enjoy unlimited access to all rooms until late in the evening;
  • the disrespectful or reckless behavior of many fellow travelers, which we have not yet experienced in this way on international ships.

Costa Fortuna is visually a neat, spacious cruise ship. However, certain signs of wear cannot be overlooked. The presentation is of that opulence that is typical of Costa ships. Costa Fortuna is by no means a ship for lovers of cool, Nordic birch wood designs. She is - like other ships of the shipping company - a ship for the "Italian moments" in life! It does not come close to the other Costa cruise ships that we previously tested. We very much regret that.

Costa Fortuna: the ship of the ocean liners

Costa Fortuna was the first Destiny class ship to be built for Costa Cruises  and entered service in November 2003. At the time, her size of more than 100,000 tons was undoubtedly part of the new category of sea giants. Today the size seems less impressive, but certainly this brings advantages for lovers of medium sized man-made ships.

The construction of the Costa Fortuna at Fincantieri in Sestri Ponente marked the beginning of a new season dedicated to the shipyard’s cruise ships, renowned for having built some of the most famous Italian liners in the past. Hence the ideas of paying homage to the great historical ships that have marked the Italian experience in overseas transport. The Costa Fortuna is therefore still dedicated to the transatlantic liners, which are named after the many rooms on board (including the year the ship was launched) and numerous decorations inside the ship.

The Destiny project, which has been renovated here for Costa Cruises  with the Fortuna class of the same name, presents the central atrium, Costa Atrium , on deck 3, the main entrance to the ship. It is one of the most popular places on the ship, where the Costa Bar serves from coffee to an evening drink and where you can sit in the company of good music from the piano. The panoramic elevators move between the bridges, giving the atrium the same liveliness and colour. Coloured panels have replaced the original Costa Cruises  fleet models, taking a piece of history away from the ship, but modernising the entire environment.

On both sides of the Atrium are the Customer Service and the Excursion Office . At the bow one then enters the Rex 1932 Theatre , a 3-level theatre dedicated to the legendary ship holding the Blue Ribbon. In the middle of the ship you will find one of the two main restaurants, the Raffaello 1965 Restaurant , whose hull is elegantly depicted right at the entrance. Arranged on two levels, from here you have access to the upper balcony where there are other representations dedicated to the transatlantic liner and a beautiful view of the living room below.

Going up to deck 4 from the steps of the Costa Atrium you will find yourself in front of the entrance to the upper level of the Raffaello 1965 Restaurant . To the sides, you will find a space dedicated to the photographs offered by the My Moments Photo & Emotions Shop . The balcony ends at the second level of the theatre. On the aft side, you will find the Chapel on board, the Chapel , the Internet Point and the Vulcania 1927 Disco , below the casino. The Michelangelo 1965 Restaurant , the second of the main restaurants, also on two levels and with a beautiful window in the wake of the ship, closes on the extreme stern.

On deck 5, most of the rooms on board are developed. If we still find the theatre stalls at the bow, around the Costa Atrium there is another balcony with numerous shops of all kinds, known as the Gallery Shops . Moving towards the centre of the ship, on the left side, there is the Roma 1926 Classico Bar , dedicated to smokers and characterized by a nice fireplace, and, a little further on, the Conte di Savoia 1932 Grand Bar . The latter is the ship’s main hall, dedicated to dancing, games and other entertainment. Elegantly furnished, it preserves some original objects of the transatlantic liner.

Continuing the walk on deck 5, we pass the small Kiosk dedicated to photography products and we arrive at the Neptunia 1932 Casino , which is also very elegant and spacious, with numerous slots on one side and as many tables on the other. The two areas are separated by the windows of Vulcania 1927 Disco , accessible both from the same level and from the one below, on deck 4. Not far away is Virtual World , a well-stocked games room for young people.

At the stern, as is peculiar in this class of ships, there are three different lounges. On the straight side of the ship there is the Conte Rosso 1921 Piano Bar , deeply redesigned by the recent re-structuring, dedicated to piano music, in a context of red tones and lighting intended to simulate a great starry sky. On the opposite side, the Conte Verde 1923 Ballroom is the hall dedicated to dance music and karaoke, inspired by the colour green, which dominates the furnishings and decorations. Finally, the large Leonardo Da Vinci 1960 Lounge closes at the stern, and is used for a variety of activities and evening entertainment.

Other rooms dedicated to passengers are also located on deck 9 Napoli . At the centre of the ship is the main swimming pool, Oceania 1932 Pool , with two Jacuzzis, a space dedicated to entertainment, a large bar and a grill. From here, towards the bow, the traditional arrangement of amphitheatre beds extends to the upper deck in a series of “terraces”. A second swimming pool, dedicated to children, is located just above the last level of sun beds, the Barcelona Pool , in whose area also ends the exciting slide.

Towards the stern, from the Lido area, you enter the Cristoforo Colombo 1954 Buffet Restaurant , very large and equipped with many different stations. In the middle a staircase leads to the Pummid’oro Pizza & Mozzarella , a new place dedicated to the world of pizza. Further up, on the upper deck, is the Conte Grande 1927 Club Restaurant , mainly dedicated to Suites and some categories of the loyalty club.

On the stern of deck 9, there is a self-propelled buffet on the Lido. Here there is a third swimming pool, with a buffet corner and a bar, as well as tables for lunch and sun beds to relax. Other areas for sunbathing or resting can be found on the external decks 10, 11 and 12. The Solarium Bar , on deck 12 in the middle of the ship, offers the possibility of refreshing oneself with a cocktail or a drink. Next to it are the Saturnia 1927 Meeting Room and the Squok Club .

Costa Fortuna is a ship that, despite the restyling and adaptations that have taken place over time, retains the initial charm of the elegance of the rooms and the excitement of being immersed in an era now far from us. Some models of ships, first of all those on the Costa Atrium and the huge “ Rex ” at the entrance to the theatre, has been removed in spite of the many lovers of those legendary transatlantic liners. The current atrium is very different from the original and it is perhaps the environment that has undergone the most significant changes. Nevertheless, on the whole, the ship has a current style, without excesses, and, considering the general trend of our years, perhaps more in tune with the times. The size and services offered by Costa Fortuna represent a great opportunity to enjoy a summer cruise in the Mediterranean, such as those proposed for this 2019 season by Costa Cruises .

Costa Kicks Off 2024 Spring and Summer Season

  • March 29, 2024

Costa Fascinosa

Costa Cruises has kicked off its 2024 spring-summer season, offering itineraries that explore destinations worldwide, from South America to the Far East.

This Easter weekend, Costa offers cruises to Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay onboard the Costa Diadema, Costa Favolosa and Costa Fascinosa; to the Far East onboard the Costa Serena visiting Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, and the Costa Deliziosa arriving in Taiwan on the third leg of its Around-the-World cruise.

Also available are cruises to the Mediterranean, in Italy, France and Spain, where the Costa Smeralda will offer a week-long sailing with calls at Genoa, Marseille, Barcelona, Cagliari, Naples and Civitavecchia. The Costa Fortuna and Costa Pacifica will offer mini-cruises to Barcelona and Marseille, departing from Savona.

New for Costa is the debut of “Sea Destinations,” starting in June, in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. Costa ships will offer new experiences to be enjoyed onboard, such as a party in the bay of Formentera in the Western Mediterranean or a typical Caprese breakfast in front of the Faraglioni rocks of Capri island.

During the summer season, three ships will be sailing the Western Mediterranean, including the Costa Smeralda and Costa Toscana and Costa Pacifica. Destinations include Marseille, Barcelona, Cagliari, Naples, Civitavecchia/Rome and more.

Two ships will explore the eastern Mediterranean. The Costa Fortuna will operate a new itinerary with stops exclusively in Greece and Turkey. The Costa Fascinosa will offer one-week cruises to Catania, Taranto, Mykonos, Santorini, Malta. The Costa Deliziosa will set sail on a one-week itinerary including Marghera/Venice, Bari, the Greek islands of Mykonos and Santorini, and Katakolon/Olympia.

Two ships, the Costa Favolosa and Costa Diadema, will explore Northern Europe. The Costa Favolosa will offer three different itineraries, from 13 to 22 days, departing from Hamburg, bound for the North Cape and Lofoten Islands, Iceland and Greenland, plus a new eight-day itinerary dedicated to Scotland. The Costa Diadema will offer one-week cruises to the Norwegian fjords.

Also available are mini-cruises in the western Mediterranean, in Italy, France and Spain, of three and four days, with the Costa Pacifica, Costa Fascinosa and Costa Fortuna.

Costa Cruises vessels are a common sight at Mediterranean ports.

Embarking on a cruise vacation doesn't have to break the bank. Although traditionally seen as an extravagant choice, cruising today is known just as much for its family-friendly and bargain deals.

Among the mainstream cruise lines, Costa Cruises is known for keeping its base fares as low as possible. While rarely the final price you pay, the advertised rates are a tempting prospect.

At the time of publication, Costa’s ‘Easter sale’ features various 7-night European itineraries from under $450 per person, based on two sharing a cabin in November 2024.

Known for its European onboard experience, Costa Cruises has become a popular choice among budget travelers and families seeking to explore the world—and especially the Mediterranean cruising region —without splashing too much cash. But the line isn’t for everyone, especially those used to a more all-inclusive cruising experience.

From its back-to-basics business model to the efficiencies of being part of the Carnival Corporation, this is how Costa manages to keep its prices so low, and what you can expect on board.

Best High-Yield Savings Accounts Of 2024

Best 5% interest savings accounts of 2024, flexible itineraries.

One of the biggest differences offered by Costa Cruises and fellow Italian line MSC Cruises is their approach to itinerary planning.

Typically, cruise lines base their ship in a port for a season, and offer varied itineraries throughout that season. Costa, however, runs its ships the same looped itinerary throughout a season, especially in the Mediterranean region, and allows embarkation and disembarkation at different ports.

Costa Cruises ships share the same basic design as many other lines in the Carnival Corporation.

This increases the flexibility for guests when booking, and allows Costa to offer specific segments or itineraries at lower prices in order to fill its ships throughout the season.

Although this practice does help keep ships busy and fares low, it also results in hectic mornings and constant announcements in every port aimed at new arrivals, which can become tiresome after several days.

One area of the Costa experience often criticized on forums such as Cruise Critic is the food. With the main dining room and buffet restaurant always included, it’s fair to say that you won’t go hungry on a Costa vacation.

However, the standard is more everyday than luxury, with a strong focus on Italian cuisine including salads, breads, and pasta.

Another common grumble from some travelers is the relatively late fixed dining times, which can be as late as 9pm. Although this is perfectly normal in Mediterranean culture, it may not suit all travelers.

Non-Inclusive Business Model

There are specialty restaurants on all Costa ships should you wish to pay for an elevated dining experience. This is one example of Costa’s business model of stripping out many items from the cruise fare and making them optional extras.

Although basic food and onboard entertainment are included in the base fare, there are many additional charges to watch out for, including taxes and gratuities.

Perhaps the biggest bill faced by travelers will be for drinks. Tea, coffee, and water are available in the buffet during its opening hours, but all other drinks are chargeable, even water in the main dining room.

Costa Toscana shares the same cruise ship design as many other Carnival Corporation brands.

This makes beverage packages worth consideration for most travelers, even if you don’t drink alcohol.

High Guest-To-Crew Ratio

One of the biggest differentiators between the standard of cruise lines can be seen by examining the guest-to-crew ratio. Simply put, the more passengers per crew member, the slower and less personal the service is likely to be.

On most mainstream cruise lines, a ratio of around 3:1 is the norm, but on Costa Cruises it can be as big as 4:1. This can result in longer waiting times in the dining room and at the bars, something that is another common complaint from Costa cruisers.

Large Cruise Ships

Costa Cruises was founded in 1948 and became a part of the Carnival Corporation in 2000. Being part of the world’s largest cruise group including famous industry brands Carnival, Cunard, Holland America, P&O Cruises, Princess, and Seabourn, gives Costa several advantages that contribute to its ability to offer low-cost cruising options.

One of the biggest factors is the size of Costa cruise ships. All but one of Costa’s ten ships have a gross tonnage above 100,000, while the newest, Costa Smeralda and Costa Toscana , are among the world’s biggest cruise ships.

The more passengers Costa carries, the cheaper the costs of operation are on a per passenger basis. High numbers of passengers also mean more upsell opportunities.

The Costa Smeralda and Costa Toscana also demonstrate another benefit of being part of the larger group. Both are ‘Excellence-class’ ships, a class of cruise ship ordered by Carnival Corporation for many of its brands. Sharing a design across so many lines leads to a lower unit cost.

Although there are downsides to taking such a cheap cruise, especially the uncertain amount of additional costs and constant upsells, Costa Cruises does offer a compelling value proposition especially for families. If you know what to expect, a Costa vacation can prove to be an enjoyable travel bargain.
