Debbie Gibson is one of those triple threat entertainers who can just do it all. All of it to such a high standard. This bar is filled with patrons who have travelled from all over the country to be here. Some of them are fans of hers from her work in films; some of them are fans because of Broadway. It is a real honour to witness her genius this evening. She is quite the entrepreneur, and has built her own career based on talent and hard work. It is no surprise to this audience of all ages.

What better song to open her set with than the opening track of her debut album, “Out of the Blue?” This pop songstress brings a collection of hooks to the table, some big enough to catch a tuna fish. “Anything is Possible” is another song that keeps the audience buzzing with excitement. The hooks from “Sure” work really well with this audience who are just soaking everything in before them. This multi instrumentalist shows off the many talents that she has, sitting at the piano and strumming the guitar at various points of the set. Bravo!

The Mix Tape Tour with New Kids on the Block, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Salt N Pepa, and Naughty by Nature with DJ Sluggaz was amazing, especially for someone who is not even a fan of the most of these artists. I just like seeing live music shows and wanted to see Debbie Gibson sing some of her top songs. I was a little upset that she didn't get to completely sing her top songs. But the show was fan-freakin'-tastic! I think I might be a fan now. San Jose SAP Arena 5-29-19

Nostalgic to see her and others perform. The energy during the concert was high and everyone attendance was taken back in time. So glad I got to see her in concert.

Debbie Gibson burst onto the music scene at 16 and instantly became the youngest artist in history to write, produce and perform a number one hit, "Foolish Beat." She is still the youngest female and has held the world record for over three decades. Gibson has sold more than 16 million albums and has starred in 17 musicals in 17 years, from Broadway's Les Miserables to the West End's Grease .

In 2019, Gibson joined NKOTB on The Mixtape Arena Tour. Later that year, she also served as a celebrity judge on Nickelodeon’s “America’s Most Musical Family.” In 2020, her single “Girls Night Out” soared to No. 4 on the U.S. Billboard and U.K. MusicWeek charts. Debbie Gibson – ‘Winterlicious’ review

Eighties pop legend, Debbie Gibson, has released a wonderfully festive album for the holiday season in ‘Winterlicious’. The fourteen songs, a mix of classic Christmas songs and original material, including a duet with New Kids on the Block’s Joey McIntyre, wraps you in sparkly cinnamon sugar, in the very best way.  

Approaching her third decade as a performer, Gibson’s eternal electric youth, her infectious, upbeat energy, is apparent across most of the album – half of which she wrote – which sounds exactly like New York City in December; the background vocals, horns and Gibson’s unique voice on the classic Christmas songs ‘Sleigh Ride’ and ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ sound like something out of the Radio City Hall Rockettes Christmas Spectacular. Disclaimer: you may also find yourself wandering to travel websites while listening to these two songs in particular. 

Winterlicious starts softly, a gentle drift of early snow, as Gibson opens with the classic ‘Let it Snow’ and an effervescent ‘I Wish Everyday Was Christmas’. The music then heads east for a reworking of the traditional Christmas song, ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’.

Fellow eighties icon and musical theatre performer, Joey McIntyre, co-wrote the emotional ballad ‘Heartbreak Holiday’ with Gibson. The break-up song feels like a Christmas Hallmark movie in three minutes; why have the couple split up? What was the book she bought him last Christmas? Does he miss the sweater? How will their story end? Ah, we know, we know. We love the warm sentiment that courses through ‘Winterlicious’, which is amplified on ‘The Gift’, a ballad celebrating the presence of love. 

Throughout ‘Winterlicious’, playfulness and contemplation go together as effortlessly as morning and afternoon on Christmas Day; excitement sparkles on the uptempo ‘Christmas Star’ as wishes and bells celebrate the giddiness of the festivities finally being here. Later on the album, family joins Gibson as Daddy Joe lends his rich baritone vocals to a piano-based duet of ‘White Christmas’ that harkens back to a Dean Martin/Frank Sinatra kind of black-tie Christmas evening.

Final song, the reflective and New Year’s Eve-inspired ‘Cheers’, written after the last 31st December Gibson shared with her Mum, is a beautiful ending to ‘Winterlicious’. The whole album feels like a Hallmark Christmas movie binge, while you’re snuggled under blankets, hands alternately wrapped around hot chocolates and dipping into caramel popcorn.

Debbie Gibson is heading out on tour to mark a milestone 35 years in the music industry.

Gibson announced a month-long tour named after and in support of her latest album, "The Body Remembers," on Monday. The whirlwind 15-stop tour kicks off in Minneapolis on June 1 and will hit cities such as Chicago, Boston, Dallas and Los Angeles before wrapping in San Diego on June 26.

Gibson released her 10th studio album, "The Body Remembers," last August. It was her first effort in 20 years to offer completely original songs, following her 2001 album "M.Y.O.B."

She told  Billboard upon its release, "The goal was to make an undeniably special, authentic, well-crafted and yet still raw album. I feel great about the fact we found that. I feel like I've made an undeniable album."

Added Gibson, "I've lived a lot of life up to this album, and it's all reflected here. There are chapters and chapters of other songs I've written, especially in the last 10 years. I knew that the next time I put something out I wanted it to be a drop-the-mic 'wow' moment. I feel like this is that album."

In addition to singing her new songs on tour, she will also throw it back by performing some of her best-known and biggest hits in honor of her career's 35th anniversary, having released her debut album "Out of the Blue" in 1987.

Debbie Gibson Is Dreaming of a ‘Winterlicious’ Holiday With New Album

What can add joy to any pop fan’s holiday season? A little Electric Youth. Debbie Gibson throws her Santa hat in the ring with Winterlicious , her first-ever holiday album, which drops on October 21. It’s a Christmas celebration for the once and future pop queen, 35 years after her classic Eighties debut Out of the Blue and a year after her excellent 2021 comeback, The Body Remembers . “People need festive now more than ever,” Gibson tells Rolling Stone . “I think any chance for people to be uplifted is a good thing.”

On Winterlicious , Gibson sings a mix of familiar Yuletide standards, from “Sleigh Ride” to “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman.” But she also includes originals like “Christmas Star,” which she just debuted last year. “Heartbreak Holiday” is a new duet with her longtime musical wingman, Joey McIntyre from New Kids on the Block. Gibson will also embark on a “Winterlicious” holiday tour that begins in California on November 25th.

Winterlicous has the Hannukah celebration “Illuminate” and her McIntyre duet. “Joey Mac’s such a gracious guy,” she says. “He’s always saying how during the pandemic, we were each other’s lifelines, just having that creative partnership. There’s been a lot of magic there the past couple of years. I’m always grateful to those New Kids boys.” And she says, “‘Let It Snow’ feels like it’s out of a Rosemary Clooney movie musical. I’m always thinking in terms of ‘what do I want to perform live?’ so I literally dance around my house to this stuff — like the equivalent of me singing into a hairbrush.”

Gibson’s Daddy Joe joins her for “White Christmas.” “I was always a sucker for a daddy/daughter duet,” she says. “Like hearing Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole together. I’m so glad, especially in light of losing my mom this year, that my dad and I got this etched in vinyl for all eternity.”

The most powerfully moving song on Winterlicious has to be “Cheers!” about the bittersweet feeling of New Year’s Eve. It hits home for Gibson since she just lost her mom Diane, who also acted as her manager for much of her career. “Last year, I FaceTimed with my mom on New Year’s Eve. We didn’t know it would be the last time, but I got cozy, ordered a pizza, and ate it with my mom. We FaceTimed for about an hour, and when I hung up, I sat at the piano, and the whole song ‘Cheers!’ poured out. ”

Gibson debuted the tune on her tour for The Body Remembers as her heartfelt tribute to her mom. “She’s in the music always,” Gibson says. “My mom had this favorite coat that’s very flamboyant—like the woman herself, it’s classy with a lot of flair. My sisters unanimously voted that I should have the coat because I share her flamboyance. So I decided to take her onstage with me. On tour, I wore her coat every night when I sang ‘Cheers!,’ which was very emotional. I’m not quite sure how I got through that every night!”

Debbie Gibson, '80s pop icon, gears up for new tour, reflects on decades-long career: Showbiz "keeps me young"

Pop icon Debbie Gibson, who took the music world by storm in the 1980s at the age of 16, is gearing up for her encore tour starting later this month for her album, "The Body Remembers."

As a singer, songwriter and producer, Gibson produced massive hits such as "Foolish Beat," "Lost in Your Eyes" and "Electric Youth," becoming a pop princess who topped the charts decades before today's music royalty. 

With her mother by her side fighting to protect her voice, Gibson broke through the barriers of being young and female, producing and recording her own songs and albums with creative control. Her first album, "Out of the Blue," produced five hit singles and sold over 5 million copies. 

Gibson's focus later shifted to Broadway performances where singing and hitting belty notes consistently every night required a different skill set. She starred in 17 musicals over 17 years, including "Les Miserables" and "Grease," but her health began to deteriorate.  

Gibson experienced various symptoms such as joint pain, brain fog and memory loss, which eventually made it impossible for her to function normally. At one point, she even thought her life was over. 

She would later discover that she had Lyme disease after being infected by a tick.

"I felt so validated when I got that diagnosis. I also learned that for me, Lyme disease was also a wakeup call that some things in my life were not in harmony. I had to really rearrange my priorities and my life," Gibson said. 

In 2021, Gibson released "The Body Remembers," her first pop album in 20 years. She said the title refers to how the body remembers various experiences, such as love, loss, illness and physical victory. 

Gibson, now 52, wrote the songs in what she calls her "happy place" at her bedazzled piano once owned by Liberace. 

"For the album 'The Body Remembers,' I'd often just come sit and ideas would just kind of flow out," she said.

Despite her long and successful career, Gibson is still surprised that she is the youngest artist ever to write, produce and perform a No. 1 song. 

"I'm always saying to young girl budding songwriters that I meet, 'Please break my record.' You just gotta be younger than 17," she said. 

In her upcoming music video with a '70s theme, Gibson cast some of her lifelong fans, who proudly call themselves "Debheads." As she gets older, Gibson said the feeling of creating music never fades. 

"Showbiz, it keeps me young," she said. "All I ever wanted to do as a kid was sing and dance and play dress-up and entertain. And I'm doing it, and doing it all these years later. I mean, I'm doing it, people."

Debbie Gibson is feeling festive.

The Brooklyn-born, Long Island-raised pop superstar is ready to bring some holiday cheer to area stages as she hits the road in support of “Winterlicious,” her new collection of seasonal music released in October via her Stargirl Records.

“I really want it to be like those awesome holiday specials we used to watch as kids and, for me, (it will be) like going to Disney and seeing those theme park shows,” said Gibson. “It’s going to be that kind of dose of nostalgia and warmth and festivity.”

“Debbie Gibson’s Winterlicious: An Evening of Holiday and Hits” plays the Vogel at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank on Wednesday, Nov. 30, followed by engagements Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Paramount in Huntington, N.Y., and Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Event Center at Rivers Casino in Philadelphia.

Gibson promises a stage spectacular with holiday favorites and classics of her own re-worked to fit the spirit of the season, delivered with plenty of yuletide razzle dazzle.

“I want to really give people those song and dance numbers,” Gibson said. “I spend a lot my life living in a modern rock ’n’ roll mindset, like the way I (typically) perform, but this is a really fun reason to go back to those Broadway roots and that more theatrical sound and presentation.”

Her “Winterlicious” opener, a jolly and jazzy romp through “Let it Snow” bolstered by a 36-piece orchestra, nods to Gibson’s time on the Great Bright Way in the ’90s and early 2000s, when she played the likes of Rizzo in “Grease,” Belle in “Beauty and the Beast,” Eponine in “Les Miserables” and Sally Bowles in “Cabaret.”

Each of her Broadway roles tasked Gibson with putting her own spin on well-worn classics that have been sung by countless other performers — a skill that came in handy while recording an album of holiday music.

“(On ‘Let it Snow’), I can tell that I’ve listened to a lot of Rosemary Clooney. I can tell that I’ve done Broadway and worked with arrangers that have had a foot in Broadway and jazz and all of those worlds,” said Gibson.

In that performance, she explained, “I’m not doing a ton of vocal gymnastics. There’s a lot of subtle vocal stylings in that performance that I definitely think are influenced by Broadway, and in a way feel like I’m playing a role. I mean, it feels like a movie musical to me.”

“Winterlicious” also boasts several new Gibson originals: the heartfelt anthem “The Gift”; the lovely Hanukkah song “Illuminate”; and the New Year’s Eve ode to fresh starts “Cheers!”

Joey McIntyre of New Kids on the Block teams up with Gibson for the bittersweet duet “Holiday Heartbreak,” and she duets with her father, Joe, on “White Christmas.”

“I put (the album) on in my car and celebrate,” said Gibson. “I go, ‘Wow, this is the record I always wished to make for the holidays. So that’s a great feeling. … It really reflects all of the elements that I’ve been inspired by in holiday music over my 52 years on this planet.”

Arriving 35 years after her smash 1987 debut album “Out of the Blue,” “Winterlicious” is part of a flurry of activity for Gibson. She released “The Body Remembers,” her first album of original material in 20 years, in 2021, and earlier this year she co-starred with Anthony Michael Hall in the film “The Class.”

“I just do things when the inspiration hits — and it’s been really hitting a lot in the last couple of years,” Gibson said. “To put out two records in 14 months is pretty ambitious, ... but it’s been amazing. Especially my die-hard fans, I think, have waited a long time for this moment, and everybody’s really celebrating together.”
