Map for the Greeks to Greece tour

Board your overnight flight to Athens, the cradle of Western Civilization and one of the oldest cities in the world. Pro tip: if you’re looking to earn some bonus points with the locals upon arrival, make sure you refer to Greece by its real name: Hellas.

Welcome to Athens! This city is at least 5,000 years old, but hardly looks a day over 25 (when you look past the historic structures and ancient statues). What we’re trying to say is, Athens is a beautiful city filled with art, literature, history, and about a million Instagram-worthy spots. And it’s the first stop on your journey through the Greek Islands.

In the evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner of local cuisine and drinks with fellow travelers at an authentic local spot. Afterwards, you’re free to take the party elsewhere!

Today's highlights:

  • Meet an EF representative at the airport
  • Transfer to your accommodation and check in
  • Receive the latest schedule from your Tour Director
  • Meet your fellow travelers as they arrive
  • Get acquainted with Athens on a brief walk around the city with your Tour Director.

The remains of some historically significant and crazy old structures still stand in this ancient citadel, including the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena Nike. So yeah, it’s kind of a big deal. The rest of the day is yours to explore Athens.

  • Step back in time in the historic Acropolis of Athens with your local guide.
  • See the Propylaea, the Theatre of Dionysus, and a bunch of other structures you’ll need your guide’s help to pronounce.
  • Take in incredible panoramic views of Athens from the citadel’s hilltop vantage point, and understand why the ancient city’s name translates to “high city”.

Free time suggestions

Fill Up: Sample ouzo, the local anise-flavored aperitif, at an authentic Greek restaurant, locally known as a taverna. Dig It: The National Archaeology Museum is considered one of the greatest museums in the world, with pieces ranging from Greek sculptures to Egyptian Antiquities. Mama Mia! That’s quite a collection.

After you’ve taken in the sites of ancient Athens, head to Piraeus Port to board your overnight ferry bound for Chania, Crete.

Chania is one of Crete’s most picturesque coastal cities, with a maze of narrow streets and family-owned shops. Take today to explore the area on your own.

In the evening, head back to the harbor for dinner along the water and a night out on the town. Many of Chania’s tavernas feature live music.

  • Spend the day in Old Port on your own.
  • Admire the unique architecture of Chania, a mix of Venetian and Turkish styles
  • Learn about Chania’s role in history and its Minoan, Ottoman, Venetian, Byzantine and Greek influences

Get Crafty: Visit Tabakaria, the leather district, for well-priced, handmade leather goods Beachy Keen: Lounge at the beach, enjoying the soft sand and sparkling water (round-trip transportation included).

Join your Tour Director and head to Falassarna, a mile-long golden sand beach outside of Chania, or take a free day to explore.

Return to Chania in the evening for one last night before heading to Heraklion.

  • Drive to Falassarna, complete with amazing ocean and mountain vistas
  • Rent an umbrella, grab a fruity drink and relax in style

Enjoy a scenic drive through olive groves and mountainous terrain from Chania to Heraklion. The Old Town is known for its massive stone fortifications, astounding Venetian and Turkish fountains and urban sophistication.

  • Board your private coach en route to modern, urban Heraklion, capital of Crete
  • Arrive and check in to your accommodation
  • Get to know the area with your Tour Director

That's Bull: Visit the Palace of Knossos, the setting of the myth of the Minotaur, just three miles outside of Heraklion Eat Up: Heraklion is home to one of Greece’s most thriving cafe and restaurant scenes Stock Up: The best shopping in the Greek Islands is in Heraklion’s Old Port

You’re headed to Santorini, one of the most iconic Greek Islands, complete with whitewashed and blue-domed buildings, romantic beaches, and endless sunshine. Think you know your adult grape juice? Join an optional Cliffside wine tasting excursion.

  • Hop aboard a short ferry ride bound for Santorini
  • Arrive and check in to your accommodation.
  • Get to know the picturesque island that you’ll be calling home for the next two nights.
  • Sprint to the nearest beach and enjoy a Santorini sunset.

Sun Down: Oia is the traditional village in the northwestern end of Santorini and best known for its blue-domed churched, windmills and winding streets that pop up in everyone’s Instagram feeds. And for good reason. Head there before sunset for awe-inspiring sunset views and get ready to capture some likes…errr, photos. Life's a Beach: Visit one of Santorini’s top beaches for an evening swim—from Perivolos to Kamari to Ammoudi Bay—there are tons to choose from and you literally can’t go wrong.

Quaint villages, wine, and a breathtaking sunset—it doesn’t get more Greek than this. Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

Keep the good times and island vibes rolling with a free day in Santorini, and take in all the romantic views and olives you can handle. Get your heart rate up with a hike from Fira to Oia, or curl up on a beach towel and work on your tan. Word of advice: don’t fall asleep with a gyro on your lap. It will result in a bizarre and hunger-inducing tan line.

  • Head back to your favorite beach from yesterday, or go on the hunt for a new spot.
  • Wind your way along the paths of Imerovigli. When it comes to sunsets, this village is known as the “balcony to the Aegean.”
  • Enjoy dinner with a view at cliffside cafes and restaurants. Bonus points if your view includes the caldera.

Museum On: Get your history on at a few of the island’s museums. The Archaeological Museum of Thera and the Museum of Prehistoric Thera are home to well-preserved artifacts and fossils dating back to 17th century BC. Skary Stories: Take a trail to Skaros Rock, an outcropping of rock that juts out over the Aegean Sea. This is the perfect place to get some scenic views (and sweaty palms, if you get too close to the edge).

Next stop, Ios! This hilly island in the Cyclades is known for all-day parties, sandy beaches so soft they’ll have you ditching your shoes permanently, and nightlife that stretches into early morning. This is the place to party, relax, and repeat.

  • Blow a farewell kiss to Santorini and board your ferry to Ios.
  • Arrive and check in to your accommodations.
  • Join your Tour Director on a walking tour of the area and get a feel for the island living.
  • Spend the rest of the day exploring on your own, then get the party started with the island’s famous nightlife.

Beach It: Head to Mylopotas Beach, located near the island’s main village of Chora, for a day of sunbathing, or hit the water for windsurfing, snorkeling, and Marco Polo-ing. Prepare to get your socks knocked off—this is the most visited beach in Ios…not that you should be wearing socks at the beach anyways. Take a Hike: Head into the cliff-top villages of Ios and catch a glimpse of the iconic windmills. Then, feel on top of the world after hiking up to Pyrgos, the island’s highest point, and take in some serious views.

Enjoy a free day to explore Ios on your own. By now, you probably already understand why the nightlife on this island is so famous, but Ios is more than just a party destination—it’s full of history, tradition, and activity. Spend the day wandering around island villages, going for a hike, or just relaxing under blue skies on one of the island’s pristine beaches. Bring a bottle of wine, a book, and your personal playlist—you’re in paradise.

  • Make your way to the beach for more splashing, sunshine, and sand between your toes, and love that this is now part of your daily routine.
  • Head to the harbor to devour fresh seafood and ocean views.
  • Snap a picture at the Panayia Gremiotissa bell tower, one of the most photographed spots on the island.
  • Dance the night away in the Greek Islands’ most famous party scene.

Don’t ruin it: Explore Paleokastro (translation: old castle) and discover the ancient ruins that have been standing on a cliff’s edge overlooking the Aegean Sea since 1397 AD. Dig it: Ios is more than just a pretty face. Soak in some of the island’s ancient history at the Archeological Museum.

Speedboat & Shipwreck Snorkel (extra cost)

Hop on your speed boat, grab a snorkel, and swim amongst a shipwreck. Then, voyage into secret caves in the coast of Ios, relax on our favorite isolated beaches and hidden lagoons, and munch on a light lunch. This excursion is  pre-book  only; if your trip is less than five days away, please call 800-766-2645 to purchase.

You can never have too much free time in paradise. Spend the day revisiting your favorite sunbathing spot, exploring new hiking paths, or snorkeling with some fish friends.

  • Take a break from the nonstop parties on Manganari beach, a secluded spot perfect for a peaceful afternoon under the sun.
  • Trek over to Skarkos Hill for a look at the island’s largest archaeological excavation site, and get a peek into ancient civilization.
  • Stay out till the break of dawn (and then stay out a little longer) to end your last night in Ios the right way.

Shop ‘til you drop: Spend some time shopping in Chora, the island’s main village. This classic Greek village offers incredible views and has endless alleys and side streets to explore. ***Go Homer:***Pay homage to one of the greatest poet’s in Greek history during a hike in the northernmost part of the island to Homer’s Tomb. If you ever read Odyssey or Iliad in high school, you know who to thank.

Athens felt neglected, so it’s a good thing you’re heading back to pay it another visit. End the trip with a bang in a city known for stunning views and world-class nightlife. By now, you’re an old pro when it comes to exploring Greece, so we’re giving you the day to adventure in Athens on your own before an included farewell dinner with the group.

  • Take a ferry from Ios to Athens, and greet the ancient city like a really, really old friend.
  • Revisit some favorite spots from day one in Athens, or go on a hunt to find new hidden gems.
  • Check out some of the residential areas for an authentic look at life in Athens.
  • Enjoy one last group dinner, and raise a glass to an epic trip.

Go Ancient: Step back in time in the historic Acropolis of Athens, and take in incredible panoramic views of Athens from the citadel’s hilltop vantage point. Follow the Light: Flood-lit like a beacon towering over the city, Mount Lycabettus offers a spectacular view of the city. If you’ve been holding out on posting a scenic Instagram post, this is your moment.

Farewell Dinner Share some last laughs (and maybe shed a few tears) at an included farewell dinner with the group.

Antio, filoi! Translation: Goodbye, friends. Your next destination awaits—home. Before you head to the airport, enjoy your last few moments together. Take one more group photo. Grab that final drink. (Fine, maybe a couple of drinks.) But this isn’t goodbye. It’s, “See you later.” The only question is, where?

Day-by-day itinerary

Board your overnight flight to Naples today.

Welcome to Italy! Travel to your hotel on the Sorrento Peninsula, which opens to the Bay of Naples and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Our recommendation for freshening up? Order an espresso con panna, served with a heaping dollop of fresh whipped cream. And take your time—Italians don’t usually take their coffee to go, so sidle up to the coffee bar and savor yours slowly.

Then, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers at tonight’s welcome dinner, served with beer or wine.

Join your local guide and sail across the Bay of Naples to the famed Isle of Capri. Known around the world as a playground for chic jet-setters, Capri’s dramatic coastline is dotted with colorful cliffside hotels and lavish villas. You’ll traverse crystalline waters by boat and spend time on the island before returning to the Sorrento Peninsula.

  • Boat around the island and bask in the romance of Capri’s caves and grottoes (weather-dependent). You can admire the elaborate White Grotto and Faraglioni rocks as they jut out of the water.
  • Stroll through the winding alleys of the village of Capri, lush with Mediterranean flora—palm trees, umbrella pines, and bright pink-and-purple bougainvillea.
  • Take a funicular ride to Capri’s upper town and watch the island’s vistas unfurl below you.
  • Explore the Gardens of Augustus—a botanical garden with an intimate setting, intoxicating blooms, and a dreamy view of the water.

End the day by adding an excursion to an agriturismo—or farm stay—where you’ll indulge in a four-course, farm-to-table meal, as well as a tour of its fertile grounds. Prefer to spend the time exploring on your own? Enjoy your free evening in the Sorrento region by tracking down the best limoncello.

Rustic Italy: Farmhouse Dinner & Wine Tasting

From $125 per person

En route to Rome, stop at Pompeii for a guided walking tour of the city’s ruins, frozen in time since the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The former port town lay buried under ash for 1,500 years before being rediscovered, and ongoing excavation continues to uncover remnants of everyday life before disaster struck.

  • Discover how Roman citizens lived 2,000 years ago as you stroll through remarkably preserved temples, public baths, and amphitheaters.
  • View the excavated ruins of Roman theaters, villas, temples, and baths.

Then, continue to Rome and sit down for dinner, served with beer or wine.

Follow in the footsteps of the ancient Romans on a guided tour of the Eternal City.

  • Immerse yourself in the grandeur of Imperial Rome, where history unfolds around every corner.
  • Experience the awe-inspiring Colosseum, a monumental amphitheater that reverberates with the roar of ancient spectacles. Walk in the footsteps of gladiators and feel the weight of history pressing down from all directions.
  • Traverse the evocative ruins of the Forum, once the pulsating heart of Roman life. Listen for bygone echoes of parades and gripping trials as you explore the remnants of this marketplace of yore.
  • Imagine the deafening roar of the crowds at Circus Maximus, where Romans raced chariots and gladiators faced off against each other.
  • Pass the collapsed ruins of the once-sumptuous Baths of Caracalla, an integral part of Roman social life.

This evening, choose to get your hands dirty—with flour, that is—by adding an excursion to a pasta-making class. You’ll learn traditional techniques for preparing and rolling out fresh pasta before digging into the dishes you prepared.

Need a moment of respite? Use your free time this afternoon and evening to visit Aventine Hill, home to the peaceful Orange Garden (Giardino degli Aranci) and a view of St. Peter’s Basilica.

It’s your final full day in Rome. Whether you want to take it easy over a morning cappuccino or admire the exquisite art and architecture of the Galleria Borghese, use your free day at your leisure. You can descend into the eerie underground chambers of the Capuchin Crypt—also known as the Bone Chapel, the way it’s adorned with skeletal remains in a unique display of artistic macabre—or add an excursion to the sacred walls of Vatican City, where the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, and countless masterpieces await.

Please note: On some departures, the optional Iconic Sights: Vatican City excursion may be moved to day 5.

Iconic Sights: Vatican City

Fly to Athens, Greece. Then, stop at the Corinth Canal as you travel to Nafplio. This narrow waterway connects the Gulf of Corinth to the Saronic Gulf and was an important navigational route upon its opening in 1893. While it’s too narrow for today’s modern vessels, its steep limestone walls provide a scenic contrast to the aquamarine waters.

Romantic and slightly out of the way, Nafplio is a thriving seaside town with a rich history that exhibits Roman, Venetian, and Ottoman influences. After settling into your hotel in Nafplio, join your fellow travelers this evening for an included dinner, served with beer or wine.

Join your Tour Director on a walk through Nafplio’s charming Old Town: Take in Syntagma Square (alive with locals enjoying a coffee or a nightcap), quaint restaurants, and historical buildings around every turn. For a keepsake to take home, look for shops selling worry beads. Used for relaxation or stress relief across Greece, the city has a storied tradition of producing them.

Visit Greece’s archaeological wonderland of Epidaurus, famous for its amphitheater. Remarkably well preserved, it was constructed toward the latter part of the fourth century B.C. as a site for religious ceremonies. In the theater’s current incarnation, visitors can enjoy performances of Greek dramas, set against a backdrop of the surrounding valley and mountains.

Your guided tour continues in the UNESCO-listed archaeological site of Mycenae. No visit to the eastern Peloponnese would be complete without a visit to the cradle of Mycenaean civilization, which peaked between 1400–1200 B.C. As you walk through the hillside citadel, you’ll come across the remains of homes, storefronts, ancient tombs, and Agamemnon’s Palace.

Nothing can prepare you for the sheer sense of awe you’ll feel when you come face-to-face with Athens, where ancient architecture and artifacts coexist with modern life.

Spend a free afternoon to relax and settle in, or opt into the excursion to Cape Sounion this afternoon, where the remains of the Temple of Poseidon—god of the sea—offer the perfect vantage point to take in panoramic views of the Aegean and its island chains.

Cape Sounion

From $75 per person

Meet up with your dedicated local guide, who will introduce you to the highlights of this bustling capital.

  • Pass by the Panathenaic Stadium, built entirely out of marble—the only such stadium in the world.
  • Continue to Syntagma Square, home to the neoclassical Greek Parliament building, and admire the plaza’s imposing marble steps, fountain, and lush shade trees.
  • Reflect on the Arch of Hadrian, built to honor the Roman emperor, and imagine how its Pentelic marble stones were carted more than 11 miles from Mount Pentelikon in 131 A.D.
  • View the remains of the sixth-century Temple of Zeus and gaze up at its 16 ornate Corinthian columns.
  • Hop off your bus and walk through the Plaka. Situated at the foot of the Acropolis, this district is one of the oldest parts of Athens and is known as “the neighborhood of the gods” due to the dozens of monuments strewn throughout.
  • Set off on a walking tour around the ancient Acropolis—site of the Parthenon, Temple of Athena Nike, and Erechtheion. You may have seen these enduring icons of antiquity in books and film, but now you’re stepping through the work of craftsmen who quarried and honed these marble blocks thousands of years ago.

Spend a free afternoon in Athens to explore on your own. Head back to the Plaka district, or wander through Anafiotika on the northeast slope of the Acropolis. The neighborhood dates to the 19th century and is chock-full of charming whitewashed cottages and vibrantly hued doors, the likes of which you might have seen—or will see soon—on Greece’s Cycladic islands.

Tonight, celebrate your trip with your group over a farewell dinner, served with your choice of beer or wine.

Transfer to the airport for your flight home. Or, extend your stay to visit inimitable Santorini, where you’ll dive into white-and-cobalt-tinged postcard views of the iconic island. Walk through picturesque fishing villages, enjoy a cruise or local wine tasting (or both), and get your fill of just-caught seafood.

You’ve seen the photos—now get ready to star in them yourself. Board a ferry to Santorini today. Watch for the steep cliffs that plunge into the Aegean and the island’s famed caldera (the large depression formed by a volcanic eruption), dotted with whitewashed buildings.

Your guided tour of Santorini will take you from black sand beaches to jagged cliff-lined shores and back—a stark contrast to the island’s beloved whitewashed buildings and sprays of fuchsia bougainvillea vines.

  • Visit the archaeological excavations at Akrotiri, a settlement buried in volcanic ash, where richly pigmented Bronze Age frescoes and other Minoan artifacts survived a devastating volcanic eruption in the 16th century B.C.
  • Ride to the top of Mount Profitis Ilias for a panorama of Santorini, neighboring island chains, and blue waters kissing the horizon.
  • Stop in small, picturesque Pyrgos, where you’ll weave through the steep streets of this slightly off-the-beaten-path village.

Spend a free afternoon poking around shops and sampling local wine, or opt to join what’s sure to be an unforgettable excursion—a steal-your-breath-away catamaran cruise with views to match.

Santorini Caldera Cruise & Dinner

From $149 per person

Santorini’s nutrient-rich soil lends itself perfectly to growing wine grapes. Get to know the island’s unique vineyards during an excursion to a local winery, complete with a tasting and accompanying lunch.

Prefer to spend the day on your own? You can sample some traditional dishes—like moussaka (a hearty eggplant dish) or tomato fritters—then explore the unique black-pebbled shores and clear waters of Kamari Beach. End the day with a sunset stop at the lighthouse found on the southern tip of the island.

Please note: For an additional cost, you can book a visit to the village of Oia through your Tour Director. The visit will either take place on the evening of day 11 or 13, depending on the ferry schedule.

Map for the Greeks to Italy & Greece tour

Board your overnight flight, bound for Italy. Get ready to eat spaghetti on penne on linguine on fettuccine on gnocchi on ravioli on chocolate gelato (not literally, but maybe literally).

Welcome to Rome, Italy’s capital city that is bursting at the seams with energy. Locals fill the streets, day and night, usually doing something that involves eating or drinking. And how can you blame them when pasta, pizza, gelato, coffee, and wine are everywhere you look? Rome is all big city/ancient ruins, served with a side of spaghetti.

In the evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner of local cuisine and drinks with fellow travelers at an authentic local spot. Afterwards, you’re free to take the party elsewhere!

Today's highlights:

  • Meet an EF representative at the airport.
  • Transfer to your accommodation and check in.
  • Receive the latest schedule from your Tour Director.
  • Meet your fellow travelers as they arrive.
  • Take a guided tour of some top sights around Rome.

They say all roads lead to Rome, but once you’re there you quickly realize that all roads actually lead to restaurants. Take the morning to satisfy your cravings and sip some espresso, then see perhaps the most staggeringly important building you can possibly see in Europe: the Roman Colosseum.

  • Tour the city with a local guide who will show you why Rome is one of the most legendary cities in Europe.
  • Experience the heart of ancient Rome with a visit to the Forum, once a hub of activity for the city.
  • See the ruins of several Roman temples, including the Temple of the Vestal Virgins.

Rome has a bit of a spooky side. Travel deep underground to catacombs built by early Christians. Then, head to St. Paul’s Basilica. Existing since at least 324 AD, they say St. Paul himself is buried there. Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

Today you get to explore centuries worth of culinary perfection, unbelievable architecture, and local fashion on your own. And let it be said, Rome looks goooood for being 2,000 years old. (It must moisturize.) Shop, eat, drink, and talk like an Italian (with your hands) during your free day. Embrace the culture and indulge in carbs during your last day in the Eternal City.

Free time suggestions

Piazza Navona: Head over to Piazza Navona, one of Rome’s best known public squares. Fountains, street performers, shops, restaurants, and so much more. Hangout, sip coffee, and embrace the atmosphere of this outdoor hub. Trevi Fountain: Rumor has it, if turn your back to the Trevi Fountain and toss a coin over your shoulder, it guarantees you’ll return to the Eternal City. Throw in a second coin, and you’ll not only come back, but also find love. (Significant other not guaranteed by EF Ultimate Break.)

A Visit to the Vatican (extra cost)

Visit the Pope’s house: Vatican City. Take a guided tour of the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Basilica, and get your dose of art history up close and personal—viewing Michelangelo's famed Sistine Chapel frescoes. Please note: The Vatican is closed on Sundays. In the event that the itinerary day containing this optional lands on a Sunday for your departure, the optional will take place the day before. This excursion is  pre-book  only; if your trip is less than 90 days away, please call 800-766-2645 to purchase. This excursion is also non-refundable 95 days prior to departure.

Make your way to the Naples Region and explore the Amalfi Coast. The Amalfi Coast is a 30+ mile stretch of coastline that happens to be pure Italian perfection—quaint towns, high cliffs towering over crashing Mediterranean waves, and enchanting views that never end. Today, you get to see all of it for yourself. Ready your camera, make room in your stomach for cake, and don’t even think about blinking. Okay you can blink. But quickly—you don’t want to miss this.

  • Relax on a scenic pebble beach or shop your way through the colorful streets of Positano.

The day is yours to do as you wish, like enjoying the thing that Naples is known for: that bready, cheesy, tomato sauce topped stuff we call pizza. Or join your Tour Director for an excursion to Capri. Trust us, you haven’t lived lavishly until you’ve cruised around the island of Capri.

Capri Cruisin' (extra cost)

Ferry across the Bay of Naples then around the Isle of Capri, gawking at the incredible Arco Naturale and the famous Faraglioni rocks. Then travel by funicular railway to the ancient mountaintop island resort. Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

As you make your way to the Rome Airport for your flight to Athens, join a local guide for a walking tour of the ancient city of Pompeii, which stands frozen in time after Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, completely destroying the town.

  • Travel back to imperial Roman times and learn about Pompeii, the city covered in volcanic ash.
  • Look up at Mt. Vesuvius, the deadly volcano that annihilated this city almost 2,000 years ago.
  • Experience the buildings, artifacts and even people that have been extremely well preserved over the years.

Welcome to Athens! 2,500 years ago, it was kind of a happening place, and still is today—with fewer people in togas walking around. It’s a vibrant metropolis, and a perfect jumping-off point for your journey through the Greece. When the sun goes down, expect to see people socializing in the streets. It’s how they roll.

  • Step back in time in the historic Acropolis of Athens with your local guide.
  • See the Propylaea, the The Panathenaic (Olympic) Stadium, and a bunch of other structures you’ll need your guide’s help to pronounce.
  • Take in incredible panoramic views of Athens from the citadel’s hilltop vantage point, and understand why the ancient city’s name translates to “high city”.

Head out from Athens to Mykonos by way of ferry. Though also rich in history, this island’s claim to fame is all-out, non-stop, dance-until-the-sun-comes-up nightlife. Between dazzling seascapes, sandy beaches and the best nightlife in the Mediterranean, get ready—you’ve got two big days and two even bigger nights here.

  • Wave goodbye to Athens and set your sights for Mykonos as your board your ferry.
  • Arrive in Mykonos and check in to your accommodation.
  • Get to know the area with your Tour Director on a brief walk, and start planning out your evening.
  • Spend your free time exploring a few of the islands 800 churches…or maybe just head to one of its 100 bars. You do you

Sun of a Beach: The late afternoon is a great time to beach it—a little breeze kicks up and the temperature dips just enough to make it feel great. Go to Church: Mykonos’ most famous church, the rock-like Panagia Paraportiani, is usually locked, but the fabulously photogenic whitewashed exterior is a spiritual experience in itself.

Spend the day in Mykonos doing what you want. Whether that’s a beach day, a food day, a food AND beach day, so be it. In Mykonos there is no wrong choice.

  • Take the morning to rest and recover as you please.
  • Lather on the SPF 75 (skincare is important) and head to the nearest beach.
  • Pick up that bottle of olive oil you promised mom at one of the many shops.

Party in Paradise: By day, Paradise Beach is a hotspot for sun tanners, sand castle-builders, and partiers alike. By night, the sand is your dance floor and the entire beach erupts into a high-energy party that goes ‘til dawn. Super Paradise: Visit Super Paradise Beach, Paradise Beach’s smaller, quainter neighbor. Relax under an umbrella, hang out in a beach bar, and soak up your last day in this island paradise.

Spend your last day in Mykonos doing what you want.

Mykonian Farm & BBQ (extra cost)

Explore a local farm, hear its history, and meet its animals. Then, help prepare a traditional meal. Vegetarian and vegan options available.

  • Take a ferry from Mykonos to Athens, and greet the ancient city like a really, really old friend.
  • Revisit some favorite spots from day one in Athens, or go on a hunt to find new hidden gems.
  • Check out some of the residential areas for an authentic look at life in Athens.
  • Enjoy one last group dinner, and raise a glass to an epic trip.

It’s, “See you later.” The only question is, where?

sell 11 Day Deluxe Greece 2024

11 Days / 9 Nights   Starting at $4450 PP (Land Rate)

Before Rome, there was Greece—the Island Empire with 6000 islands in all. If it’s your first time, expect a life-altering experience. View beautiful Athens from high atop the Acropolis. Visit the islands, each with different shapes, sizes and personalities. Lay a towel out on the most beautiful beaches in the world. Taste the seafood, meats, cheeses, vegetables and wines—as fresh as God intended.

Welcome to Greece, the Perillo way—authentic, friendly, and, of course, with excellent accommodations .

Your overnight flight to Greece may bring on dreams of Zeus and Apollo, but fear not, the gods are on your side tonight. After all – we’re visiting their homeland!

Upon arrival to Athens’ newly constructed airport, your Perillo Tours representative will greet you and privately transfer you to your deluxe 5-star hotel in the heart of Athens. You will be assisted with your check-in for a smooth and effortless experience.

Time to relax and adjust to your new time. We’ve arranged a welcome cocktail followed by a scrumptious roof top dinner with breathtaking views as you watch the sunset.

Begin your journey back to ancient Greece, “the cradle of civilization”. Your sightseeing tour brings us to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Royal Palace, the Pan-Athenian Stadium and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Stop at the first Olympic Games of the modern era held in 1896 followed by the world-famous Acropolis.

Visit the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheio and finally—the glorious Parthenon and the Acropolis Museum, with its many priceless artifacts.

After, a fun walking tour in the Plaka and central market. We stop for lunch at a typical local taverna. The rest of the day is at leisure to shop or just stroll.

Morning is at leisure. In the afternoon we depart for Cape Sounion. Marvel over one of Greece’s most photographed monuments on this half-day tour to the Temple of Poseidon from Athens.

Wind your way along the coastal cliffs and beaches on the scenic drive to Cape Sounion, then grab your camera as you spot the magnificent remains of the Temple of Poseidon, perched high on the sea cliffs.

You have a chance to get up close to the ancient monument, explore ruins dating back to 444 BC, and soak up the impressive coastal views. Dinner follows at a local fish restaurant before returning to your hotel.

After breakfast we depart for Piraeus Port to board the highspeed ferry to Mykonos Island.

On this jet-set island, beautiful beaches, chic boutiques, and elegant nightclubs - all vie for the tourist’s attention. Beneath its sophisticated surface, however, lies a quintessential Greek island. Hundreds of tiny chapels dot the island and sheep graze in the shadow of whitewashed windmills.

Visit Little Venice in Mykonos, find a table on the waterfront and bask in the serenity of sunset over the picturesque harbor. Be sure to send your regards to Pete the Pelican.

Located only 3 ½ nautical miles from Mykonos by ship, in ancient times Delos was the spiritual center of the Cycladic Islands and as the mythical birthplace of Apollo, it was considered a sacred island.

Today Delos is essentially a large archeological site, with its ruins taking up almost 1-square mile and with no inhabitants except members of the French School of Archeology who have been excavating the island for over 100-years. Overnight stays on the island are forbidden.

Return for a leisure afternoon. Evening a dinner awaits you in the town.

After breakfast the day is at leisure to explore, swim or shop till you drop. If so inclined, we offer an optional cooking class to learn a traditional Mykonian dish from the freshest of ingredients.

Today we depart Mykonos for Santorini by superfast ferry. Upon arrival to Santorini, you will be transferred to your hotel in Fira. Late afternoon, you will be picked up for a Fira walking tour followed by dinner.

Today we begin with a visit to Pyrgos, the best-preserved medieval village on the island. It is situated at the foot of Mt. Profitis Ilias, (Mt. Prophet Elijah), Santorini’s highest peak at 1900 feet.

Next we visit Koutsogiannopoulos Winery for a great lunch and of course, a wine tasting!

Finally today, you’ll enjoy the prehistoric village of Akrotiri to visit the well-preserved excavations from 1600 B.C. After, we’ll return to our hotel to relax, or explore a bit more!

The morning is at leisure. This afternoon, it’s a sunset Catamaran Cruise by the magical Caldera (a volcanic cauldron). We’ll sail the sea route from Red Beach, to White Beach, to the Black Mountain and the Hot Springs. What a spectacular sunset. It’s great to be alive!

As the night falls, a sumptuous dinner is served complete with wine and dessert. Marvel at the shimmering stars in the sky and twinkling lights on the island by night!

After breakfast we transfer to the airport for our short flight back to Athens (approx. 35 min.) to connect with our flight home to the States.

format_quote Testimonials

Words cannot adequately describe the experience we had with Perillo tours. ! Our 14 day northern Italy classic tour was a dream come true. Every day I woke up and felt like someone should pinch me, it was surreal. Everything was top notch from the hotels, restaurants, the itinerary and the wonderful tour guides and bus driver. I came home completely satisfied knowing that I went to Italy and so everything I wanted to see. The only disappointing part of the trip was Milan. I would've rather had more time to spend in the Sorrento/Capri area. Milan could not compare to the other cities that we visited and the activities that we did. Overall, we had a fantastic time and I highly recommend perillo tours to all my friends and family.

Mr. & Mrs. T.M.

A few days ago, my Wife and I returned from the North Continental Tour. We had never taken any tours before and, although we heard great things about Perillo, we weren’t quite sure what to expect. I am pleased to report that the tour exceeded all of our expectations. The hotels were excellent and in perfect proximity to see the many sites of Italy. Getting to, from and into each of the places we visited was a breeze. I’m sure that I do not need to tell you how wonderful each of the places we visited were or how great the food was. But I did want to tell you that our tour guide Paola really made our trip the outstanding vacation that it was. Her knowledge of history, food, wine, geography etc. was exceptional. She was always available to answer any questions or provide any assistance. As you can see in these photos, we had a great time and enjoyed each other’s company.

Europe live: European parliament to vote on key migration package

MEPs asked to vote on more than 10 different bills aiming at reforming migration laws across bloc, amid criticism from far right, far left and greens

  • 3h ago Welcome to the blog
  • 3h ago European parliament to vote on key migration package

The inside of the European parliament in November 2020

European parliament to vote on key migration package

Lisa O'Carroll

After eight years of stalemate, more deadlocks and compromises., the rise of the far right across Europe has focused the minds of European leaders and compelled them to finally agree, by majority vote, to reform incoherent migration laws across the bloc.

Yet it still hangs in the balance with more than 700 MEPs being asked to vote 10 different bills through.

If passed it will mean fast-tracking of asylum applications and forced returns within as few as 12 weeks, an improvement in what several MEPs have said are dreadful standards in reception centres and alleviate the burden felt by countries like Greece and Italy which in the last year has shouldered responsibility for the majority of people being smuggled across the Mediterranean.

Ylva Johansson , the European commissioner for home affairs, who shepherded the legislative text through its torturous journey since 2016 is convinced it will pass. She admits however that if it does not the laws are in big trouble and it is unlikely that there will be appetite to revisit the matter in the next parliamentary mandate.

Last night it looked as if the Greens (72 of 705 seats), some socialists and some members of the centre right grouping in the European People’s Party in both Poland and France would be voting against some of the files.

Politicians in the far right groups including Alternative for Germany, Vox and National Rally have already been “discounted”.

The debate starts around 2pm Brussels time with votes at 5pm.

Marine Le Pen’ s National Rally is going to support two of the 10 bills on the table this evening.

Jean-Paul Garraud , president of the group in the European parliament, said they will support the measures on screening of migrants and the establishment of the Eurodac database only.

He said if any of the bills failed it would amount to a “failure of the European Commission” bid to, what he said, was take the sovereignty away from member states.

Jorge Buxadé Villalba of Vox has told reporters the Spanish far-right party will vote against all but two files - those on screening and Eurodac.

Polish MEPs from the Law and Justice (PiS) party are going to vote against all 10 bills, MEP Patryk Jaki has told the Guardian.

The far-right Identity and Democracy group has reiterated its opposition to the migration and asylum pact.

Swedish Left Party MEP Malin Björk got some applause when she accused those supporting then migration pact of taking the position of the far right.

“You are walking in their shoes, you are following them each in their narrative pitting people against each other, pitting refugees and migrants and refugees against workers,” she said.

She said opposing the deal was to support human rights.

“We defend the Europe that stands for human rights .. they [voters] are not okay with dismantling our future.”

MEP Birgit Sippel , a German social democrat, said the debate has demonstrated the compromise is not a simple one. Nevertheless, after 8 years, an agreement has been reached, and that demonstrates the determination of many participants, she said, adding that despite of justified criticism, today there is an opportunity to adopt urgently-needed measures.

Margaritis Schinas , the European Commission vice-president responsible for promoting the European way of life, said in the European parliament that the migration and asylum package on the table “is a delicate, balanced outcome.”

“This is indeed a make it or break it moment,” he said, adding:

We are about to open the door to a new house, a pact house, which will be founded on the respect of fundamental rights and the dignity and the values we represent. Not a fortress Europe, but a well-guarded house, with more secure external borders, and clear rules on who is entitled to enter. A house that will provide shelter to those fleeing prosecution, war and violence. A house where all asylum applications will be processed duly and fairly. A house that will also make sure that those who do not have legal right to be under our protection should be returned to the countries of origin with speed and dignity.

“The migration pact is a shipwreck for asylum rights,” the Green group said.

“We’ll see greater use of detention, more human rights violations & pushbacks at borders. It won’t make things better.”

The Group stressed that “we will vote against this Pact & continue to fight for human rights.”

The asylum and migration pact decision today “is an important vote that will mark a new beginning and respond to the concerns of European citizens,” the centrist Renew Europe group said. “A united and humane European response is crucial,” it added.

Cornelia Ernst , a German MEP from the Left group, called the regulations on the table a pact of shame and disgrace.

Beata Szydło , from Poland’s Law and Justice, criticised the pact, arguing that it proposes the wrong solutions.

There are the 10 bills on which the European parliament is voting today.

Solidarity and responsibility

The asylum and migration management solidarity mechanism involves relocation of asylum seekers to other member states if the first country of arrival is overwhelmed as Italy was last year.

Critics say it will little to do alleviate the burden on countries like Italy because the Dublin regulation which obliges asylum applications to be processed in the first country of arrival has not been reformed sufficiently. Under a replacement rule, migrants with family in another member state can file for asylum in that country.

This is one of the bills that is likely to garner least support. Poland and Hungary have always opposed it.

Crisis times

This puts in mechanisms to avoid a sudden influx of people, or a repeat of the crisis of 2015 when more than 1m people arrived by water and land to Europe, mostly from war-torn Syria.

It will also creates mechanisms for the exploitation of people, who are placed on borders of Europe by hostile actors, such as Russia.

Screening of third country nationals

This allows for screening at the border with criminal record checks, biometric data collection along with health checks for up to 7 days. This seems safe.

Fast tracking asylum procedures

At committee stage this package of laws was confirmed by 40 votes in favour, 23 against and 4 abstentions. So it would also appear to be safe.

Eurodac database

Provides all member states to maintain and share data on all who arrive in the EU including children from six years old. Some on the left and the Greens don’t like this but likely to sail through as those on the right are in favour.

Uniform asylum procedures

This will address issues some on the right had about member states “transposing” laws on asylum rights in ineffective ways.

Reception centres

This is aimed to create minimum uniform standards at reception centres and accommodation including health care and housing. Registered asylum applicants should also be allowed to work soon to accelerate integration.

Safety and resettlement

This is to allow states to offer protection for the most vulnerable refugees living in third countries, identified in most cases by the UNHCR.

Martin Schirdewan , on behalf of the Left group, said that the pact would take away the right to protection for those who need it.
