Despite the government’s protracted negotiations to legalise same-sex marriage , Australia is a country with a largely open-minded population. Cities like Sydney and Melbourne are especially welcoming to the LGBTQ community, with festivals such as Mardi Gras and Midsumma attracting tourists from all over the world. Held annually since 1988, Melbourne’s foremost LGBTQIA+ arts and culture festival features over 100 events including the Midsumma Carnival in Alexandra Gardens, which attracts approximately 120,000 people; the iconic Midsumma Pride March in St Kilda; and Midsumma Horizon, a party featuring live-performance, projection, visual art and music.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Sydney, February – March

Celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2018, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is Australia’s largest LGBTQ celebration. The festival includes the world-famous Mardi Gras Parade, Mardi Gras Party, Comedy Festival, Film Festival, Pool Party and the family-friendly Fair Day, which attracts roughly 70,000 people.

Brisbane Pride Festival, September

Brisbane’s month-long Pride Festival is the third largest in Australia drawing 10,000 people. The festival kicks off with The Launch (a massive party) followed by dozens of events including the unifying Pride Rally and Pride March and Fair Day at New Farm Park.

Feast Festival, Adelaide, November

Adelaide premier LGBTQ queer arts and cultural festival celebrates the artistic endeavours of the community with events showcasing local and international artists and performers. Events include the Opening Night Street Party, Pride March, Theatre and Cabaret Shows and Picnic in the Park.

PrideFest, Perth, October – November

In Sydney , bustling inner-city Darlinghurst is the focal point of the annual Mardi Gras festival and home to some of Australia’s longest-running and best-known LGBTQIA+ bars, such as The Colombian , Arq Sydney and the Stonewall Hotel . Most of the action takes place along the main thoroughfare of Oxford Street, which is lined with entertainment venues and retailers. The neighbouring suburbs of Surry Hills and Potts Point are queer hubs, too; both spots are known for their concentrations of top restaurants and their well-dressed residents.

Welcome to our website. Super glad to have you here 🙂

We’re Michael and Charlie,  met on Tinder in the UK, had our third date in India, hitchhiked across Taiwan, cycled around Japan, celebrated our 6 months in Greece and got married in Denmark.   We’ve visited 60 countries in the last decade which you can see highlighted below.

Right now, we are traveling Australia by van and are documenting our travels on  YouTube  and  Instagram .   

We started our van-life adventures in Sydney in December 2019.  The original plan was to spend 8 months in the van before heading back to Sydney to settle down, get serious about our careers, and maybe even start a family filled with many dogs.

Yet here we still on the road, turning content creation into our “career” even though our backgrounds are in psychology and engineering! We’re super grateful to our online communities because we’re honestly being able to live a life we never thought possible.

Creating Inclusive Travel Content

There’s a huge lack of gay and LGBT+ representation in travel media, especially in Australia. If you type “travel inspiration” into google, you’ll rarely (if ever) see images of same-sex couples. You’ll most likely see an image of a straight chick with a hat on looking out into the distance (usually a mountaintop) and the wind in her hair. 

So we’ve decided to create gay travel content of our own.  We document our daily travel adventures on our   Instagram   and  Youtube , but if you didn’t find this page from YouTube, check our our one minute YouTube intro video below and you’ll get more of a feel of what we’re about. 

More than just the 'Pink Dollar'

On our travels, we met these lovely wives, who told us a story about how the celebrant that married them was super supportive of their wedding, right until it was over. After the wedding, the celebrant gifted them with a bible, so they could repent for their sins. This story is why we do what we do.

We are very aware that accommodation places and experiences will gladly take money from same-sex couples, but feel awkward when same-sex couples hold hands on their tours or in their space. This is the reason we are actively dedicating time and lives to finding accommodation places where the operators are more than just LGBT+ “friendly”, but rather LGBT+ welcoming and active allies for the community.

To be honest though, we haven’t yet reached our goal of YouTube providing enough income for us (or any income) to keep ourselves on the road (although that is the dream!). Every day we spend on the road without a stable income means we’ll have to probably quit the content creation gig and head back to our previous jobs (Michael = cancer researcher; Charlie = business consultant).

Enjoy freedom and flexibility

Some operators sell bare-bones itineraries at great prices, then charge you hundreds more for excursions and upgrades. Other tours are so intense you need a holiday before you fly home. Out Adventures balances destination highlights with time to do your own thing – at a fair price, no less.

Small groups and like-minded travellers

Our land tours never host more than sixteen guests, and our biggest cruise is only 40 people. Guys actually get to know each other, and small boats let us visit charming spots like Korčula in Croatia – this town is unreachable by larger ships, but a favourite destination for us. Typical travellers are 40-55 years old, usually North American, with a mix of couples and singles.

The 20th century has seen many countries around the world becoming more inclusive and open to gay people and the LGBTQ+ community more generally. As more and more spaces have allowed gay people to enter them safely and comfortably, it's safe to say the world has become a happier place filled with far more love and acceptance than ever before.

Unfortunately, this cannot be said about everyone and everywhere. Due to things like religion, culture, and sometimes just personal preferences, there are still many communities around the world that simply do not accept gay people - in some places, their presence is merely unwanted and uncomfortable, and in others, it's actually unsafe to be gay.

We've put together a list of the 10 best gay travel destinations around the world.

1. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam is a culturally open and progressive city, known in particular for its red light district, but this applies to the LGBTQ+ too. The city is generally welcoming to all people, regardless of sexuality or anything else, and Amsterdam has had a thriving gay scene for many years.

The Netherlands was one of the first places in the world to legalize gay marriage, and there are plenty of historic monuments to represent the plight of gay people in the country. You'll find gay bars and shops all over Amsterdam, but Reguliersdwarsstraat is probably the most popular gay district in the city, although there are a few more too.

2. Copenhagen, Denmark

Denmark is generally known to be pretty progressive, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that they became the first country in the world to legalize same-sex partnerships in 1998. Copenhagen is at the heart of this liberal nation, and has become a great queer holiday destination.

Copenhagen is actually home to Europe's oldest openly gay bar, Centralhjornet - it's origins data back to the 1950s, making it way ahead of its time. Vesterbro is another vibrant and gay-friendly areas, with plenty of gay bars and other gay-friendly establishments.

3. Dublin, Ireland

To be fair, most of Ireland is considered gay friendly, but Dublin is at the top of the list. Homosexuality was legalized in 1993 and gay marriage in 2015, putting it ahead of may other places around the world. There isn't really a specific gay district in Dublin because most of the gay bars are scattered around the city, but some of the best ones are in the Temple Bar district. The George and Street 66 are two of the most popular LGTBQ+ bars in Dublin.

4. Sitges, Spain

Sitges, Spain is well-established as a "gay town" and it's known for having one of the best gay beaches in Europe. There are plenty of gay bars (about 24) and loads of gay-friendly shops - and they aren't hidden down back streets, they're out in the open, on main roads. PDA among gay couples is totally accepted and the atmosphere is generally very accepting.

5. Toronto, Canada

Toronto is easily one of the most gay-friendly cities in the world. It has plenty of specifically gay-friendly establishments, a thriving gay dating scene, a history of promoting LGBTQ+ rights, and general safety for queer people. A few of the most popular gay districts are "The Village" (on Church and Wellesley Streets) and Queer West, and there are loads of great bars and cool nightlife to enjoy!

6. Berlin, Germany

While Berlin is considered, on the whole, a very liberal and open-minded city, with several gay neighborhoods (primarily Schöneberg) as well as "gay hotels. The LGBTQ+ scene is thriving here and has countless gay bars, gay museums, gay clubs, gay saunas, gay hotels, and so much more, making it an awesome place to visit if you want to feel totally comfortable, safe, and be surrounded by like-minded people.

7. Vienna, Austria

Vienna is considered the gay capital of Austria, and for good reason. The city has a general "love whoever you love" atmosphere, with a general openness and acceptance all around, as well as plenty gay spaces. In Vienna, you'll find places that are both mixed and gay-only, and the Naschmarkt area is where you'll find most of the city's most popular LGBTQ+ hangouts. In addition to Vienna Pride (which is held in all the cities on this list), Vienna also has a cultural festival called "Wien ist Andersrum", translating to "Vienna is Queer".

8. Mykonos, Greece

Mykonos is generally known as the party center of Greece, but it's actually also the country's gay capital - especially the Old Port area. In Mykonos, everybody is accepted, and the island sees a particularly high number of gay tourists during peak season. There are loads of gay-friendly hotels and hostels, as well as bars and clubs.

9. Cape Town, South Africa

While Johannesburg comes in close second, Cape Town is viewed as South Africa, and even Africa's, gay capital. Sea Point in particular is often described as "gay district", with plenty of hustling and bustling gay bars around. Clifton and Camps Bay beaches are also very gay friendly, making it a great place for a gay summer holiday!

10. Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne is generally known as a pretty inclusive city, and Australia legalized gay marriage in 2017. There's plenty of gay nightlife, and Prahran and South Yarra are considered the "gay hotspots". Generally speaking, pretty much everything is gay-friendly, so wherever you go or stay, you're bound to be welcomed with open arms!

A guide to LGBTQ+ travel in Latin America

With museums, culture, nightlife, family outings and safe spaces to  relax in, Latin America has much to offer LGBTQ+ travellers. 

Latin America is a vast region of over 656 million inhabitants. Stretching across two continents, it’s a storied location where people and cultures from Europe, Africa, the Americas and elsewhere mixed and settled. Spanish and Portuguese, vestiges of two rival superpowers, are the dominant languages. The ancient empires, Aztec, Incan, Mayan and others, still make their presence known — from the archaeological highlights of museums to the living spectacles of carnivals, parades and religious celebrations, like the macabre Day of the Dead and the continued worship of goddesses like Yemanjá brought from the West African coast.

The region’s powerhouse cities are where LGBTQ+ nightlife, culture and political progress are most visible, from the Beaux-Arts streets of Buenos Aires to the sun-kissed Rio de Janeiro, with its spectacular natural setting of mountains and beaches. Indeed, it’s these sandy stretches many tourists come to Latin America for, whether they’re seeking the golden shores of the Caribbean coast or the dramatic, mountainous landscapes that butt against the Pacific, creating conditions that every surfer dreams of.

One of the most thrilling of all Latin American destinations, glamorous Buenos Aires should be the starting point of every Argentine adventure. It’s also one of the world’s leading countries on LGBTQ+ human rights issues — it passed a national same-sex marriage equality law in 2010, five years before the US and three before the UK. Peppered with French Beaux-Arts architecture, Buenos Aires is crisscrossed by grand boulevards and marble-embellished monuments. Visitors will find hundreds of bookshops to explore, the most famous of which, El Ateneo Grand Splendid, is housed in a former theatre. There are cafes, museums and a glittering opera house. To walk along any street, especially the Nueve de Julio, is a dizzying experience.

Where to go at night in Argentina? Buenos Aires is home to some of the best LGBTQ+ nightlife on the continent, and it’s not for the faint hearted. Things don’t get going until past midnight, with locals out long after sunrise. Club Amerika in the Almagro neighbourhood is the city’s largest nightclub and a centre point of LGBTQ+ nightlife. El Lugar Gay is a small, men-only budget hotel located in the historic San Telmo neighbourhood, an area known for its Sunday antiques fair and tango performances.

Where to see Argentinian culture? Though a controversial figure in Argentina, former First Lady Eva Perón, better known as Evita, remains one of the country’s most well-known figures — a Dior-clad gay icon to many LGBTQ+ locals, with stars like Madonna, Patti LuPone and Elaine Paige having portrayed her. Her myth, mystery, legend and wardrobe are explored at Museo Evita in the elegant Palermo neighbourhood.

Where to go with family in Argentina? This nightlife-oriented city has plenty for queer family gaycations, from watching the famous ‘cat ladies’ take care of felines in Recoleta Cemetery to the Abasto neighbourhood’s Museo de los Niños , with educational science activities for children. Argentina’s Patagonian region makes an excellent option for skiing or hiking trips in Bariloche. Those of drinking age will enjoy Mendoza, an important wine region, where the Malbec grape reigns supreme.

Few places in Latin America rival the powerhouse experience that is Brazil. One of the largest countries in the world, this South American nation pulsates with a landscape as diverse as its people, with thousands of miles of beachfront, metropolitan cities, mountains and the Amazon rainforest, to name just a few points of interest. With so much to see and do, it’s hard to choose what to start with first in Brazil, and many LGBTQ+ travellers make repeat visits.

Where to go at night in Brazil? Rio is an effervescent metropolis and former capital where neighbourhoods jostle between mountains and beaches, the giant art deco statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado mountain rising above it all. The highlight of the year is Carnival — the largest such celebration in the world — in February or March, depending on the Easter calendar. It’s all about the beaches here and two are main centres of LGBTQ+ life — Ipanema, especially its Rua Farme de Amoedo gay beach, and the densely urban Copacabana beach, where locals and visitors alike pose for sunset photos with the curvaceous Sugarloaf Mountain in the background. A Brazilian cultural highlight is in Rio’s Flamengo Park, which is home to the Carmen Miranda Museum , celebrating the actress whose oversized fruit-covered headdresses inspired many a drag queen.  

Where to explore in Brazil? Visitors will find urban charm in São Paulo, with its contrasting wealthy and impoverished neighbourhoods operating within walking distance of each other. Every May, it hosts a massive gay pride parade with millions of spectators lining Avenida Paulista. Salvador, in the northeastern state of Bahia, is a hotspot for Afro-Brazilian culture. Statues of Yemanjá, mother of orishas (divine spirits) in the Yoruba religion, are everywhere — a nod to the area’s past. A visit to Pelourinho is a highlight for many, its cobblestone streets lined with colourful buildings stretching to stunning vistas.

Where to go with family in Brazil? For LGBTQ+ family travellers with kids, no trip to Brazil is complete without visiting Iguazú Falls, a series of waterfalls in the country’s south where it edges against Argentina and Paraguay. Several times larger than their North American counterpart, legend says Eleanor Roosevelt exclaimed, “Poor Niagara!” upon seeing them.

Visitors to Mexico should start in its glorious capital, filled wih museums and cultural venues like Palacio de Bellas Artes, with its Beaux Arts facade and art deco interior, or the fascinating National Anthropology Museum. Once the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan, the city is centred around the massive Zócalo, a square where Spanish buildings were constructed over ancient temples and pyramids.

Where to see the best of Mexican nightlife? Only in Zona Rosa — literally the Pink Zone — can travellers find such a dense concentration of LGBTQ+ nightlife. Near the Angel of Independence monument along Avenida de la Reforma, bars, nightclubs, restaurants and other venues popular with LGBTQ+ tourists and locals abound, along with some of the city’s best hotels.

Where to see Mexican culture? The Frida Kahlo Museum is located in the bohemian Colonia del Carmen neighbourhood. Known as the Casa Azul, this tribute to the bisexual artist has been open to the public since the late 1950s.

Where to explore nature in Mexico? Mexico’s coastlines offer a wide array of beaches to explore. Cancun and the Riviera Maya on the Yucatán peninsula are among its jewels and the source of much of the country’s income from tourism. Storied Puerto Vallarta, one of Latin America’s most popular LGBTQ+ beach destinations, overlooks the Pacific.

Peru is geographically diverse, with beaches, mountains and the western stretches of the Amazon jungle, making it a must-visit spot for nature-seeking travellers.

Where to see the best of Peruvian nightlife? Peru’s capital, Lima, is a gastronomic paradise, with native cuisine like ceviche, a raw fish and citrus dish, and drinks such as the pisco sour a popular choice. The country’s large and influential Japanese population has also impacted the culture and the cuisine. The main LGBTQ+ area is garden-like district Miraflores, the name of which means ‘look at the flowers’. Sadly, two prominent gay nightlife spots, Lola Bar and Discoteca Legendaris, have recently closed; luckily, a number of new joints are in the works. However, ValeTodo DownTown , a bar central to the strong gay residential presence here, remains open and thriving.

Where to go on an outdoor adventure in Peru? One of the reasons many visitors come to Peru is to trace the country’s ancient Incan roots. Two of the world’s most coveted bucket-list destinations are in Peru: the ancient Andean temple complex Machu Picchu with its stunning views, and Cusco, which was a capital of the Incan Empire. Visitors will come across colonial buildings representing the Spanish conquest built on top of ancient temples, the periods of architecture instantly recognisable via differing stonework. A rickety train traverses a stunning mountain pass to connect Cusco and Machu Pichu, allowing for day trips. More adventurous travellers can hike the various Inca Trails over several days, finding lesser-known historic ruins along the way.

While certain parts of Latin America might be known for a degree of brashness, travellers will   find a more reserved destination when they visit Chile. Santiago, the capital, stretches along the city’s main thoroughfare, Avenida Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins, and sits either side of the Mapocho River.

What to do at nighttime in Chile? The gay heart of Santiago is in the quaint district Barrio Bellavista, much of which dates to the 1920s. Chile is a former Spanish colony, and these influences can be seen in much of the area’s architecture, from the terracotta shingles to the white stucco walls. At night, the district comes alive with music and partying, as locals and visitors head to clubs, restaurants and bars, many with live music. The neighbourhood is dominated by San Cristóbal Hill and its statue of the Virgin Mary, a symbol of the city, connected by a not-always-functioning funicular.

Where to see Chilean culture? Argentina’s Mendoza on the other side of the Andes might be South America’s better known wine region, but Chile has one of the continent’s largest. What makes it even more ideal for visitors to the capital is that there’s no need to fly to a second destination. The wine region surrounds Santiago, most of it within an hour-and-a half drive by car or organised tour to Casablanca Valley, the Maipo region or the Central Valley, where wineries like Concha y Toro create magical elixirs from Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon and other grapes.

Australia's Katherine Bennell-Pegg graduates from European Space Agency astronaut program

It's been a journey of countless small steps, along with a few giant leaps into the unknown, but Katherine Bennell-Pegg is hoping her future as a space traveller is finally on the launch pad as she graduates as a fully qualified astronaut.

"It's still so surreal that this is happening," said the 39-year-old Adelaide resident, who grew up on Sydney's northern beaches.

"When I dreamed of becoming an astronaut, as a child growing up in Sydney, I never thought it possible to do so representing Australia."

For the past 12 months she's been training to become an astronaut at the European Astronaut Centre in Germany.

The mother-of-two was initially among 22,500 other applicants for the training program with the European Space Agency.

Ms Bennell-Pegg is one of six to graduate.

"It's been such an intense year and … I'm yet to take a breath and step back and realise that, 'Today I become an Australian astronaut and I'm spaceflight ready'," she said.

"It's really 'pinch me' stuff.

"I'm filled with gratitude, because this isn't my accomplishment alone. Throughout my life, throughout this year, I've been very well supported by my family, by my schools, by my colleagues. It's just incredible."

While her graduation from the astronaut training program is not in itself a guarantee of being selected for a future space mission, Ms Bennell-Pegg joins a select group of "space-ready" individuals eligible for consideration.

"There's no flight guaranteed for me. That's not unusual for astronauts when they graduate," she said.

"For my class, I'm graduating with five others. All five of them will go to space by 2030 and I'm so excited to see them go up and I'll be cheering them on.

"And who knows, maybe one day I'll see them up there too, but the decision for if or when I fly is a decision for Australia to take in the future when the time becomes right to take it."

If that happens, Katherine Bennell-Pegg will not be the world's first Australian-born astronaut.

That distinction already belongs to Paul Scully-Power who joined a NASA mission in 1984.

Fellow Aussie Andy Thomas also went to space with NASA in 1996.

Both men were United States citizens when they went to space.

But Ms Bennell-Pegg has pushed into a new frontier by becoming the first person to be trained as part of Australia's own space program.

At the front of the line

That means she is well-placed to potentially become the first person sent into space as part of an Australian mission.

"Well, the future is full of promise, but still unknown," Ms Bennell-Pegg said.

"Australia has a long and proud history in space, but we've only just accelerated our capabilities in recent years.

"Our space agency is quite young, so it's early days.

"And I really stand on the shoulders of giants here as well. Not only the first Australians to go to space in recent decades, but the many others who have worked to build Australia's space sector over the years."

With her training secondment to the European Space Agency at an end, Ms Bennell-Pegg returns to her day job as director of space technology at the Australian Space Agency.

It was an arduous 12 months for the Sydney woman as she tackled the rigorous training required to help her become accustomed to the physical and mental demands of space flight.

That included learning to speak Russian, long hours underwater in scuba equipment practising how to perform spacewalks, and stints in centrifuges and oxygen low-pressure chambers.

Simulated weightlessness flights have been a particular favourite.

"Oh, it's absolutely incredible," Ms Bennell-Pegg.

"When we go on zero-G flights, as they're called, you experience weightlessness for about 22 seconds at a time.

"You lift off the floor and your belly goes into your throat and stays there, but as the gravity kind of drops off, you just get the biggest smile on your face.

"It's the most different feeling. You just have this feeling of absolute freedom."

Regardless of whether she travels into space one day, Ms Bennell-Pegg hopes she can be a trailblazer for future generations of Australian kids ready to set their sights sky-high.

"For those that want to become astronauts, it's absolutely as fun as you can imagine," she said.

Are you still a little giddy from the magical moments of totality during Monday’s solar eclipse? Or did clouds swoop in to block your view? Maybe you just couldn’t make it to the path of totality this time. No matter what, the question now is “ Where and when will it happen again?”

“People who have never seen it before, the first words out of their mouth after the totality ends is ‘I’ve got to see another one, this is incredible, this is unbelievable.’ That is when you become addicted to these things and end up traveling no matter where the next one is,” said Joseph Rao, an eclipse chaser and guest lecturer at the Hayden Planetarium.

So, if like Mr. Rao, you’ve developed a raging case of umbraphilia — the love of eclipses — you’ll have three chances over the next four years to see the moon blot out the sun. The first, on Aug. 12, 2026, will start above Greenland, then strafe the west coast of Iceland and move along the Atlantic Ocean and over Spain. Almost a year later, on Aug. 2, 2027, another will skirt the Mediterranean coast of North Africa then cross Egypt and part of the Arabian Peninsula. The third, on July 22, 2028, will cut across Australia and the southern tip of New Zealand.

Future Eclipses

Eclipse chasers will have several more chances this decade to view a total solar eclipse .

Last week, as Victoria Sahami , the owner of Sirius Travel , was preparing to guide a group of tourists in Mazatlán, Mexico, for Monday’s big event, she was also planning for these other upcoming eclipses. Ms. Sahami joined the ranks of the eclipse-obsessed when she witnessed one in Venezuela in the 1990s. “Like many people, I was hooked. There was no going back,” she said.

Total solar eclipses happen fairly regularly — about every one to two years — in locations scattered around the world. “That’s the great thing about them: You wind up in places that you don’t normally go,” Ms. Sahami said.

A major spoiler is weather, which will be a big variable in the 2026 eclipse — one Greenland, Iceland and Spain will see.

“Iceland normally has a lot of cloud during that time of year,” said Paul Maley , who runs Ring of Fire Expeditions . “The data shows Spain to have the higher good-weather prospects of all three. However, the sun is low in the sky and the eclipse ends as the sun hits the horizon at sunset.”

Because of Iceland’s mercurial meteorology, Ring of Fire Expeditions is going all in on Spain, with a 10-day excursion on the mainland. Sirius Travel is offering not only a five-day trip to Majorca but also an eight-day tour around Iceland. It will be based in Reykjavik, and the itinerary will remain flexible on the day of the eclipse so the tour can easily pivot toward the location with the least cloud cover. Ms. Sahami recommends the trip for those who already have a few eclipses under their belt and would be happy just to take in the sights of Iceland if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

The 2027 eclipse, on the other hand, promises to be truly stellar: Luxor, Egypt — the site of numerous ancient temples as well as the Valleys of the Kings and Queens — sits right in the middle of the path of totality and will be bathed in darkness for a full 6 minutes 23 seconds. Weather-wise, it is what Ms. Sahami called “a slam dunk.” “You know you’re going to see it. You know that you’re not going to get any clouds,” she said.

But for all its potential, those considering Egypt should be aware that the State Department has a Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” warning for the country because of the risk of terrorism.

The 2028 eclipse will darken the skies over Sydney, Australia, for 3 minutes 49 seconds. It will be the first time the city has experienced a total solar eclipse since 1857. Ms. Sahami has her eyes on a trip based out of there, while Mr. Maley has chartered a cruise ship off the northwest coast of Australia. It will be winter there, he said, but that isn’t likely to mean bad eclipse-viewing weather.

If you want to see any (or all) of these eclipses, you should get started on planning and booking now, particularly if you want to sign up for a trip organized by a tour company. One of Sirius Travel’s excursions to Luxor is already full.

Scrutinize refund policies and look into insuring your trip. Several companies will fully refund your deposit if you cancel a year in advance. A lot can happen, Ms. Sahami said, “but if you think you’re going to go, why not?”

The Bureau of Meteorology has shared a weather outlook for the week ahead.

Meteorologist Miriam Bradbury says the weather will be mostly settled this week, with just a few patchy showers in the south-east.

Electric utes rolling to Australia, mining sites first

Electric utes are being shipped to Australia for use on mining sites after a local firm signed a deal with one of America’s leading vehicle manufacturers, AAP reports.

Mining transport company MEVCO announced a partnership with Rivian Automotive today, revealing the firm would bring its award-winning R1T ute to Australia for the first time.

The vehicle, which has yet to be sold to Australian consumers, comes after several brands announced plans to bring electric utes to Australia, and after the federal government revealed the details of its proposed fuel efficiency standard.

The MEVCO chief executive, Matt Cahir , told AAP the company had struck a deal with Rivian after almost a year of talks and had already offered 45 mining companies test drives in its electric utes.

Cahir said delays to getting electric utes into the country had been holding the transition back and Australian mining firms were calling out for more options.

It’s understood the first Rivian R1T utes in Australia will be left-hand drive models but right-hand drive vehicles will be made available in future.

The Rivian Automotive strategy vice-president, Dagan Mishoulam , said the Californian company was eager to play a role in getting more electric vehicles on Australian roads.

Man shot by police in Queensland, parts of Bruce Highway closed

A man has been shot by police south of Gladstone , with the incident sparking a road closure on parts of the Bruce Highway.

Police said the incident occurred at a rest area, 20km south of Miriam Vale , about 10.50am on Monday.

An alert on the Queensland Traffic website flagged a road closure on the Bruce Highway at Gindoran, 5km north of John Clifford Way.

As of Monday afternoon, police have released very little information on the shooting. It is unclear in what circumstances it occurred and what condition the man was in after the incident.

Investigations are continuing.

Greens want Musk to 'front parliament' after refusing to take Wakeley stabbing videos down

The X boss, Elon Musk , should “front up here to parliament”, the Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young has declared, calling the billionaire CEO a “tech thug” and “ cowboy ” after his platform refused to take down videos of the Wakeley church stabbing.

X, formerly known as Twitter, has thumbed its nose at the Australian government’s orders from the eSafety commissioner to remove the violent videos and other misinformation about the recent Sydney stabbings. A conga line of Australian politicians have savaged Musk and X’s response in recent days. The Greens’ communications spokesperson, Hanson-Young, added to that criticism in a press conference this afternoon.

It’s just appalling that Elon Musk is refusing to take down those horrendous violent posts. The online tech thugs are operating as if it’s the wild west. Elon Musk should front up to the Australian people, he should front up here to parliament and argue why his company shouldn’t have a social conscience and shouldn’t be doing the right thing. Frankly, I don’t think he [Musk] has the guts to do it.

Asked if she would try to actually ask or seek to compel Musk or other tech bosses to appear in parliament, such as in a Senate committee hearing, Hanson-Young declined to confirm – but said “there’s a number of different ways that could happen. I’m open to discussing with all of my parliamentary colleagues, from all sides, how we could make that happen .”

Hanson-Young said the Greens were still considering whether to back the government’s misinformation bill, but indicated that they thought the penalties on tech companies should be even higher than what the government has set out in draft legislation. She said the penalties needed to be stronger than “wet lettuce”.

Hanson-Young said there needed to be more transparency from social platforms on how their algorithms worked, and how they worked to send some violent content viral.

Dolphins join surfing champion as she catches a wave in WA

A pod of dolphins joined surfing champion Gabriela Bryan while she was catching a wave at the Margaret River Pro in Western Australia over the weekend.

Incoming Queensland police commissioner says tackling domestic violence a priority

At his earlier press conference, the new Queensland police commissioner, Steve Gollschewski , said reform around domestic and family violence was a priority of his.

He told reporters:

Domestic and family violence reforms is something that is absolutely critical and will remain as a priority for myself as the commissioner and for our organisation. While much is being done, and I look forward to being able to share the work being done in the reform space, much more needs to be done for the victims of domestic and family violence to make sure that the perpetrators are held to account and can change what they do, but also for our police who are dealing with over 140,000 calls for service every year.

Curious husky puppy freed from chair by firefighters

In some *very important* Monday afternoon animal news: firefighters have rescued a 14-week-old husky puppy from a chair over the weekend.

On Sunday night, Ace became entangled in the metal spokes of a chair in Queanbeyan. The local Fire and Rescue NSW crew used hydraulic cutting tools to carefully free him, allowing him to return to his oh-so-important puppy duties: sleeping, getting pats and being a good boy.

FRNSW said:

Still curious, the puppy was quick to assess the crew’s rescue equipment, all the time hoping he hadn’t been too much of a ‘pain in the neck.’

PM defends western Sydney infrastructure spending

Circling back to the prime minister’s earlier press conference:

Anthony Albanese also fielded questions about western Sydney’s infrastructure funding, after the Daily Telegraph reported roads were being defunded around the western Sydney airport.

Albanese told reporters:

With regard to western Sydney, every single dollar that had been allocated to infrastructure in NSW is still in the budget, and more. We are continuing to invest in NSW infrastructure, including billions of dollars in western Sydney, including in the airport … as well as in roads [and] rails around western Sydney … Previously, there was an under-allocation for infrastructure projects around the country with massive blowouts , with lots of announcements going back to prior to the 2013 election by the Coalition, the 2016 election, the 2019 election, for things that simply had no funding allocated for them. You can’t build a road on a media release. You need proper funding in order to actually get things done and my government’s determined, when it comes to infrastructure, to get things done and you’ll see that again in the budget in May.

Man arrested after woman found dead in NSW home

A man has been arrested after a woman was found dead in the New South Wales central west overnight.

Around 1.50am today, emergency services were called to a home in Forbes after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman. Officers attended and located the body of a woman.

She is yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be in her late 20s.

A crime scene was established and an investigation launched into the woman’s death.

A man was arrested at the property and taken to Parkes police station, where he is assisting police with inquiries.
