Car policy savers
Jaunt was launched by insurance company BGL in 2019, as its temporary insurance arm. It offer instant cover from 1 hour to 30 days to people aged 18–75 with a valid driving licence issued by the UK, EU, EEA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or Switzerland.
As well as car insurance, Jaunt also offers van and motorhome insurance.
Jaunt’s policies are provided by DayInsure and underwritten by Aviva.
Like most temporary insurance cover providers, Jaunt only offers a comprehensive policy as standard. The policy includes:
- Accidental damage cover for the vehicle
- Fire and theft
- New vehicle replacement (conditions apply)
- Personal belongings up to £150
- Windows and windscreen
- Child seat cover
- Replacement locks if keys are lost or stolen
- Liability cover up to £5 million
- Third party cover within the EU, the EEA and Switzerland
- Personal accident cover up to £2,500 (or £5,000 per insurance year) for you and your partner
- Vehicle recovery in the event of illness
You can get a policy for any timeframe between 1 hour and 30 days.
If you’re borrowing a car from a friend or family member, you’ll be glad to know that claiming on this policy won’t affect the no claims discount of the car’s owner.
Jaunt’s optional extras
While Jaunt’s policy comes with third party cover for trips to the EU, the EEA and Switzerland, you can add comprehensive cover to these destinations for an added premium.
The price of car insurance depends on many personal factors, like the make and model of the car, as well as the driver’s age and driving experience. This means prices vary from person to person.
That said, Jaunt’s website states that its temporary car insurance starts from 38p per hour and its temporary van insurance starts from 37p per hour.
If you need to report an accident or make a claim, call 08000 156 166 (+44 161 866 4114 from abroad). This will take you to Aviva’s claims handling service, available 24/7.
You must let your insurer know about any accident or incident resulting in a claim as soon as possible after it happens. An excess will apply to most claims (the amount will vary according to your circumstances).
You can call Jaunt’s support team on 0333 009 0701.
Lines open Monday to Thursday 9am–5pm, Friday 9am–4pm, Saturday 9am–5pm (closed for lunch 12.30pm–1.30pm) and Sunday 9am–4pm (closed for lunch 12.30pm–1.30pm).
You can also email [email protected].
When you take out a Jaunt policy, you can set up your own account to save and manage your details.
However, there won’t be much policy management to do, as Jaunt’s cover cannot be extended or renewed. The only way to add more days to your cover is to take out a new policy.
Similarly, once you’ve paid for your insurance, you can’t change any details. To change something, you need to cancel your insurance and set up a new policy.
You can cancel your policy at any time by emailing [email protected] with your policy reference number. If your insurance hasn’t started yet, you’ll get a full refund. If your cover has started, you can get a refund for the unused premium, provided there have been no claims or incidents likely to lead to a claim.
On customer reviews platform Trustpilot, Jaunt has 4.6 out of 5 stars and a rating of “Excellent”, based on more than 30 reviews (as at October 2020).
Customers praise the fast and easy-to-use quote process and helpful service.
- Cover for windows and windscreen included as standard
- Third party cover for EU, the EEA and Switzerland
- Cancel any time and be refunded for unused premium
- Only one optional extra available, so limited opportunity to personalise the policy
- No option to make changes to the policy
Jaunt provides a decent comprehensive option for temporary car cover. Replacing the windows, windscreen and locks is included as standard, which is not always the case.
This isn’t the most flexible policy on the market, both in terms of optional add-ons and the ability to make changes to your details once you’ve purchased the cover. However, you can cancel any time and even get a refund for premium you’ve not used.
If the benefits on offer suit what you need, and you don’t think you’ll need to make any amendments, Jaunt’s policy can be a good option for you. Get started by visiting Jaunt’s website and sign up for an account. New temporary car insurance 'Jaunt' launches: is it worth buying?
Driving someone else's car can be nerve-wracking, especially if you're not covered by their insurance. To provide peace of mind, insurer BGL has launched a new brand, Jaunt, to offer temporary insurance policies - but is the cover worth the cost?
Jaunt allows drivers to take out comprehensive car insurance to drive someone else's vehicle for up to 30 days. It joins a growing market of short-term car insurance companies looking to provide drivers with more flexible options.
Here, we take a look at how Jaunt works, whether short-term car insurance is worth buying and how it compares to traditional policies.

What is Jaunt insurance?
Jaunt car insurance allows drivers between 18 and 75 to take out insurance on a car, van or motorhome for as little as an hour or up to a full 30 days.
The policy covers you if you're borrowing someone else's car, a situation where traditional car insurance may leave you at risk.
So, how does the new policy measure up? Our experts have analysed Jaunt's cover and how it compares to standard protection from traditional car insurance providers.
Best parts of Jaunt's Policy
When rating how good or bad a policy is, Which? gives each policy element a score out of five stars: five being the highest and 0 the lowest.
Based on our analysis, Jaunt's cover for theft or loss of keys, windscreen damage and windows damage would get a full five-star rating.
This is because Jaunt pays 'market value' for these types of claims, rather than a fixed sum which may not be enough to cover the cost of damage.
Worst parts of Jaunt's policy
Jaunt scored poorly for its personal belongings cover limit of £150 and its medical expenses limit of £100. Both elements would be scored two out of five stars based on our analysis.
On average, the car insurance providers we've previously analysed offer £235 for personal belongings and £247 for medical expenses.
The excess you pay under Jaunt's policy is also very expensive compared to most traditional car insurance providers.
If you wanted to make a claim for fire, theft, windscreen replacement or accidental damage, you could expect to pay a minimum excess of £250. Some car insurance providers, like NFU Mutual, don't charge any excess for fire or accidental damage claims at all.
Unlike most traditional insurers, Jaunt also doesn't provide a 24-hour helpline for emergencies, windscreens or legal advice.
To see how other providers stack up, Which? members can see a full breakdown of how we've rated over 30 car insurance providers in our best and worst car insurance guide.
Do other providers offer temporary car insurance?
There are a number of short-term car insurance providers.
Cuvva, The AA, Dayinsure and the RAC all offer similar policies to Jaunt and allow drivers to get car insurance cover by the hour or day.
The terms will vary, as will the costs, so it's worth shopping around to find the right cover for you.

Is temporary car insurance worth buying?
While temporary car insurance can be a quick and convenient way to protect yourself for short trips, it can be quite expensive if you're planning on using it for multiple days.
The table below shows a sample of the quotes drivers living in a small town in Lincolnshire might expect to pay for a small hatchback using Jaunt:-
An alternative to short-term car insurance is adding a named driver to an existing car insurance policy. While this could cause the existing policyholder's car insurance premium to increase for the period of time the extra driver is added, it may work out cheaper than a temporary policy, especially if the driver intends to use the car for more than a week.
It's also worth shopping around to see if using a hire car could work out cheaper, as insurance is generally built into the cost.
After analysing 15 companies, our experts rounded up the top four recommended car hire companies . Which? members can view which companies made the top of the list and why.

How to get cheap car insurance
Whether you're looking to buy your first car insurance policy, or hoping to renew, there are a number of ways to ensure you get comprehensive cover at a competitive price.
First, while the price of your car insurance premium is an important factor, don't just settle on the cheapest option.
Make sure you read the terms and conditions of any policy carefully to check it covers everything you need.
Buying a car insurance policy that doesn't give you enough cover will end up costing you more in the long run, especially if you have to make a claim and find out you're not covered for the damage.
The time of year you take out car insurance cover can also have a big impact on the price you pay.
Research shows that February is the cheapest month for car insurance , while December is the most expensive month.
To help you find the best insurer, we've combined expert analysis of more than 30 standard car insurance policies along with feedback from thousands of policyholders to produce independent car insurance reviews .

Wedding Insurance Cost Comparison
Wedding (and Special Event) insurance can start at $75 , however costs can vary from carrier to carrier due to different coverage limits and endorsements. Before purchasing a policy, check your venue’s requirements to ensure that all the requirements are being met , including the need for Waiver of Subrogation and/or Primary Noncontributory endorsements.
In order to make the below comparison as ‘apples to apples’ as possible, the below criteria was used:
- $1 million / $2 million (occurrence/aggregate) liability limits
- 1 day wedding/event in California (prices are similar for most other types of special events )

Find the right Medicare Supplement Insurance plan
Because Medigap plans are standardized, you can get precisely the same Medicare benefits from any company offering the plan. So when you shop, keep these considerations in mind to find the best policy to fit your needs:
Is your preferred plan available? Health insurance companies don’t always sell every plan, so check who sells the plan you want to buy in your area.
What are the premiums? Prices for the same plan can vary between companies, so check to find the most competitive rates.
Will your premiums change over time? Most policies cost more as you age, but some companies offer policies that let you lock in a price when you sign up.
Are there extras? Medigap plans’ core benefits are standardized, but in certain cases, some companies include such perks as discount programs or gym memberships.
Medicare Supplement Insurance ratings methodology
NerdWallet’s Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) ratings are based on pricing, discounts, plan types offered, complaint data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, consumer experience, additional perks and benefits, and more. To calculate each health insurance company's rating, we adjusted the scores to a curved 5-point scale, rounded to the nearest half star.
NerdWallet reviewed 13 Medicare Supplement Insurance companies based on highest enrollment and greatest online search volume. These ratings are a guide, but we encourage you to shop around and compare several insurance quotes to find the best coverage and rate for you. NerdWallet does not receive compensation for any reviews. Read our editorial guidelines and full ratings methodology for Medicare Supplement Insurance.
Insurer complaints methodology
We examined complaints received by state insurance regulators and reported to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. To assess how insurers compare to one another, the NAIC calculates a complaint index each year for each subsidiary, measuring its share of total complaints relative to its size, or share of total premiums in the industry. To evaluate a company’s complaint history, we calculated a similar index for each insurance company, weighted by market shares of each subsidiary. We score companies based on this index of how many complaints the company receives relative to its market share. NerdWallet conducts its data analysis and reaches conclusions independently and without the endorsement of the NAIC.

What the New Overtime Rule Means for Workers
One of the basic principles of the American workplace is that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. Simply put, every worker’s time has value. A cornerstone of that promise is the Fair Labor Standards Act ’s (FLSA) requirement that when most workers work more than 40 hours in a week, they get paid more. The Department of Labor ’s new overtime regulation is restoring and extending this promise for millions more lower-paid salaried workers in the U.S.
Overtime protections have been a critical part of the FLSA since 1938 and were established to protect workers from exploitation and to benefit workers, their families and our communities. Strong overtime protections help build America’s middle class and ensure that workers are not overworked and underpaid.
Some workers are specifically exempt from the FLSA’s minimum wage and overtime protections, including bona fide executive, administrative or professional employees. This exemption, typically referred to as the “EAP” exemption, applies when:
1. An employee is paid a salary,
2. The salary is not less than a minimum salary threshold amount, and
3. The employee primarily performs executive, administrative or professional duties.
While the department increased the minimum salary required for the EAP exemption from overtime pay every 5 to 9 years between 1938 and 1975, long periods between increases to the salary requirement after 1975 have caused an erosion of the real value of the salary threshold, lessening its effectiveness in helping to identify exempt EAP employees.
The department’s new overtime rule was developed based on almost 30 listening sessions across the country and the final rule was issued after reviewing over 33,000 written comments. We heard from a wide variety of members of the public who shared valuable insights to help us develop this Administration’s overtime rule, including from workers who told us: “I would love the opportunity to...be compensated for time worked beyond 40 hours, or alternately be given a raise,” and “I make around $40,000 a year and most week[s] work well over 40 hours (likely in the 45-50 range). This rule change would benefit me greatly and ensure that my time is paid for!” and “Please, I would love to be paid for the extra hours I work!”
The department’s final rule, which will go into effect on July 1, 2024, will increase the standard salary level that helps define and delimit which salaried workers are entitled to overtime pay protections under the FLSA.
Starting July 1, most salaried workers who earn less than $844 per week will become eligible for overtime pay under the final rule. And on Jan. 1, 2025, most salaried workers who make less than $1,128 per week will become eligible for overtime pay. As these changes occur, job duties will continue to determine overtime exemption status for most salaried employees.
The rule will also increase the total annual compensation requirement for highly compensated employees (who are not entitled to overtime pay under the FLSA if certain requirements are met) from $107,432 per year to $132,964 per year on July 1, 2024, and then set it equal to $151,164 per year on Jan. 1, 2025.
Starting July 1, 2027, these earnings thresholds will be updated every three years so they keep pace with changes in worker salaries, ensuring that employers can adapt more easily because they’ll know when salary updates will happen and how they’ll be calculated.
The final rule will restore and extend the right to overtime pay to many salaried workers, including workers who historically were entitled to overtime pay under the FLSA because of their lower pay or the type of work they performed.
We urge workers and employers to visit our website to learn more about the final rule.

Fact Sheet on FTC’s Proposed Final Noncompete Rule
- Competition
- Office of Policy Planning
- Bureau of Competition
The following outline provides a high-level overview of the FTC’s proposed final rule :
- Specifically, the final rule provides that it is an unfair method of competition—and therefore a violation of Section 5 of the FTC Act—for employers to enter into noncompetes with workers after the effective date.

Average cost of UK car insurance rises by one-third in a year, analysis finds
ABI reports annual jump of £157 in first quarter of 2024 but says 1% increase on previous quarter indicates rises are easing
The average price paid for comprehensive motor insurance in the UK was about a third (33%) or £157 higher in the first quarter of this year than a year earlier, according to figures from the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
Based on analysis of policies sold, the typical price paid in the first quarter of 2024 was £635, marking a 1% increase on the previous quarter, the ABI said.
In the first quarter of 2023, the average premium paid for private comprehensive motor insurance was £478.
The ABI said the 1% quarterly increase indicated an easing of the rises seen in 2023.
It said insurers were continuing to absorb growing costs, with the average claim paid rising 8% to reach a record of £4,800 over the same period.
Claims inflation has yet to stabilise, with the costs of repairs, replacement vehicles and theft all rising, the ABI said.
The ABI’s motor insurance tracker analyses nearly 28m policies sold a year, and the claims paid against policies.
The association has previously cited costs such as energy inflation, rising prices for paint and other raw materials, rising courtesy-car costs and the increased cost of secondhand cars as adding to overall cost pressures.
Over the longer term, motor insurance has tracked very close to inflation, the association said.
In real terms, prices are £8 or 1.3% higher when compared with a peak at the end of 2017, according to the ABI. This is partly because prices fell significantly during the coronavirus pandemic, it said.
It added that 2023 was a “difficult year” for motor insurance margins, and that costs for insurers to pay claims have increased by 23% in real terms since 2017.
Mervyn Skeet, the ABI’s director of general insurance policy, said: “We understand that car insurance costs are putting pressure on household finances. These figures show how competitive the motor market is, with insurers absorbing significant cost rises but keeping prices relatively stable.
“Even though these figures demonstrate a slowdown in price increases, we won’t be taking our foot off the gas when it comes to our work on tackling the cost of cover.”
In February the ABI set out steps that the industry is taking to combat the rise in the cost of motor insurance . Last week it announced that its members had agreed measures aimed at helping manage the costs for people paying for insurance on a monthly basis.
after newsletter promotion
The association said it recommended that people struggling with the cost of their cover speak to their insurer.
Earlier in April, the Treasury select committee member Dame Angela Eagle told a hearing on insurance: “My constituents and many people who write to the committee feel that insurance is becoming more of a rip-off.
“Because the price is going up, it’s harder to make a claim; people, when they do make a claim, often have to wait a very long time or aren’t dealt with very fairly.
“And that’s particularly the case for insurance that’s compulsory, such as driving insurance.”
In another Treasury select committee session later that day, Charlotte Clark, the ABI’s director of regulation, said part of the reason that rises in motor insurance might look so significant was that “it’s coming off the back of the pandemic, where motor insurance in particular was reduced quite significantly, because the risks of being in a car accident when you’re at home are quite low”.
Matt Brewis, the director of insurance at the Financial Conduct Authority, told the committee the regulator had been looking at evidence of how inflation had affected the motor sector.
He said the regulator was meeting with price comparison websites, brokers and consumers “to understand the concerns of consumers and where they are seeing issues”.

Tick Travel Insurance Top Cover Review: Features, Pros And Cons
Published: Apr 24, 2024, 1:46am
When comparing Tick Travel Insurance’s pricing against cover levels in key areas, such as emergency medical expenses and trip cancellation, it is safe to argue that it’s a highly competitive player in the market. Travellers will likely appreciate the unlimited medical and $20,000 of cancellation cover available. Plus, the 24-hour medical emergency assistance line may offer added peace of mind.
However, some travellers may feel that Tick Travel Insurance’s Top Policy falls a little short on nice-to-have coverage, including lost luggage and rental car excess limits. Let’s take a closer look at Tick’s top policy offering.
- Competitive pricing
- High levels of medical and cancellation cover
- High customer service rating
- Credit card fraud not covered
- Higher levels of luggage cover elsewhere
- Missed connections not covered

Tick Travel Insurance is owned by Europ Assistance which is a part of the global Generali Group, and underwritten by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company Limited.
Generali is a large global insurance and asset management provider, while Europ Assistance says it has a presence in over 200 countries, providing comfort and empathy to customers in emergency situations, and an immediate global response.
Tick Travel Insurance’s aim is to make travel insurance simple, covering travellers up to age 100. It offers three levels of domestic travel insurance: Basic, Standard and Top and four types of international travel insurance: Basic, Budget, Standard and Top.
This review will focus on the most comprehensive offering for international travel, being the Tick Travel Insurance Top plan.
Tick Travel Insurance provides domestic and international cover, offering policies for single trips and annual cover for multiple trips in a year. The provider covers adults up to the age of 100, while dependent children, up to 18-years-old at time of purchase, are insured for free on an adult’s policy.
As is typical of travel insurance, its policies cover trip cancellation or curtailment and journey resumption, due to unforeseen circumstances such as injury or illness, as standard. Cover for travel delay is available on the top policies, with a pay out of $100 per completed hour up to $1,000. Valid reasons for claiming include bad weather, a vehicle breakdown or strike, and experiencing a delay of more than 12 hours.
Tick Travel Insurance’s Top plan also includes the following standard benefits that form a part of most comprehensive travel insurance policies:
Lost Luggage
This insurer covers the cost of repairing or replacing your lost, stolen or damaged personal belongings up to $7,500. Take note of the $3,000 sublimit— individual limit— on how much you can claim for devices such as laptops, tablets, phones, video cameras and cameras.
Tick Travel Insurance offers unlimited medical cover, which includes cover for ambulance and emergency surgery, repatriation if necessary, and the death of you, or another person insured on the policy.
While the insurer can cover pre-existing conditions (medical conditions you had before taking out the policy), whether you will be eligible for this cover will depend on the details you provide, outlining the condition and its severity, in the medical screening section of the application.
Is Dental Cover Included?
This insurer also extends its cover to dental treatment, paying out up to $500. This is half of what many providers offer, and bear in mind that you can only claim for dental cover for situations where you need immediate pain relief.
Yes, protection against risks in relation to Covid-19 are covered by Tick Travel Insurance’s Top policy. The insurer accepts related cancellation and disruption claims, as well as medical claims for trips outside of Australia.
What About Pregnancy?
You can claim for an extensive range of pregnancy or childbirth complications up to 31 weeks into your pregnancy with this insurer. These include toxaemia, gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia.
What About Sports And Activities?
From abseiling, to jet skiing and motorcycling, insurance for 90 sports and activities is included automatically with Tick Travel Insurance.
Remember to look out for conditions for claiming. For instance, you will only be covered for three bungee jumps and can only kayak in grades 1 and 2 rapids or lower. Also, some activities may require safety gear that you will need to wear to make a valid claim.
Cover for personal liability and accidental injury only apply to certain activities, as specified in the PDS.
Compared to the competition, Tick Travel Insurance offers relatively decent to high levels of cover across the board for a super competitive price.
When comparing the price of its most comprehensive policy against those of Travel Insurance Direct and Allianz—two providers we rated highly for their comprehensive offering—it comes out on top.
The data below is based on a 28-year-old who needs insurance for Indonesia for seven days.
The above table shows how important it is to shop around for travel insurance, and weigh up your needs with your budget when comparing policies. Tick’s Travel Insurance’s Top policy is only $77, offers considerably more cancellation cover than its competitors for this price, and levies less in excess—the set portion of each claim you must pay.
However, it may not be suitable for those who need higher levels of cover in other areas such as lost luggage and rental car excess. You can find out exactly what a policy includes and excludes in its PDS, which is usually published on the insurer’s website.
You can also find out more about the comprehensive travel insurance providers Forbes Advisor Australia has independently rated the best.
Customers award Tick Travel Insurance a high score of 4 out of 5 stars across 2832 reviews on ProductReview, Australia’s leading consumer opinion site.
Satisfied customers were pleased with how simple they found the process of taking out insurance, and the price of their policy.
However, disgruntled customer complaints were varied. Some speak of technical difficulties with the provider taking payment and not offering a refund instead, trouble accessing their policy documents and rejected claims.

Customer Services Tick Insurance Australia Suite 1.04, Level 1, 19 Harris Street Pyrmont, 2009 Sydney NSW
Additionally, you can send a complaint via post, or email: [email protected] .
Tick Travel Insurance may be considered most suitable for those looking for reasonable to high levels of cover in key areas, for a competitive price. This includes unlimited medical cover and $20,000 for trip cancellation. In other areas cover levels are decent, but may not be suitable for all. Those taking away belongings worth over $7,500 or needing more than $4,000 in rental car excess may want to look elsewhere.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Where can i find the tick travel insurance pds.
A policy’s product disclosure statement (PDS) details what it covers, any exclusions and limitations or sublimits. It’s crucial that travellers read through this document before deciding whether to purchase the policy.
Typically, an insurer will provide a link to a policy’s PDS on its website. The PDS for Tick Travel Insurance’s policies, including its comprehensive cover, are also online .
What is Tick Travel Insurance’s phone number?
Existing customers and those with service queries can fill in Tick Travel Insurance’s online query form should they need assistance, or contact at [email protected].
For 24-hour emergency assistance customers can call: +612 9333 3963.
How good is Tick travel insurance?
We have awarded Tick Travel Insurance 3.7 out of 5 stars based on factors such as the unlimited amount of medical cover, and high level of cancellation cover, it provides. It also scores highly on customer review site productreview.com.au.
However, customers should note it does not cover you, if you fall victim to credit card fraud while away. Neither are you able to choose the amount of cancellation cover you need as with some other insurers. This may not be of concern, considering $20,000 for cancellation is automatically provided, which is a considerable amount, and Tick Travel Insurance policies are competitively priced.
