Sunday food trip at Jeepney Bistro

It is true that when God closes the door he always open a window. I proved that while chatting with Mr. Joselito Syliongco, he was laid off from his work in the United States and one thing came to his mind — business, and it’s gonna be food.

Jeepney Bistro was originally from Arizona, USA, since 2004 they are catering to the Filipinos there. You know us, we all love food and it brings back memories. As a matter of fact, it is the longest running restaurant in AR, they even became the jet setter because other players started restaurants too.

Now they serve students from Ateneo, Miriam, and CCA. They are located just around the corner of Mcdonald’s.

Since the place is spacious they maximized it by adding two more concessionaires which they also own. It’s 3-in-1 food stop.

You have Jeepney Bistro for your Filipino Fix, Civeche for a mexican snack and all day margaritas; and Q Coffee & Tea Box for your chill.

They even have a small function room for exclusively for bigger groups.

Let us tour the place.

Inside has a rustic feel to it and they are of the turo-turo in a classy way.

As for the food, we had the chance to taste their specialties and best sellers.

They lean towards to the Visayan ways of cooking to introduce to the Manileños.

The native chicken in coconut milk is to die for. It is very rare to find native chicken in the metro.

The lechon paksiw is quite different. There is no liver sauce, it was cooked in vinegar.

The kinilaw na tanigue, I can’t find a word to describe it because it is my favorite. Though it is not that spicy.

As for the lumpiang shanghai, it is filled with stuffings and not just fried wrapper.

Let’s go to the Mexican food choices.

I wasn’t able to get the exact name of these fajitas and burritos but if you want to try something different and flavorful this is perfect.

Finally, the coffee and other beverages that they offer in Q Coffee and Tea Box.

I love everything about their coffee. They created the perfect blend for coffee, not bland, not strong, definitely not rancid — PERFECT! Their concoctions are unique too. I would suggest to try their minty toffee cappuccino.

As for the tea?

They are served in royalty. The bonkers in Ginger Peach tea calm my rowdy tummy.

Jeepney Bistro is indeed the place to chill, dine, and study.

TAGAYTAY TRAVEL GUIDE with Sample Itinerary & Budget

Long before Manila-dwellers began a long-distance affair with the highlands of Baguio, Sagada and Kalinga, they have been in a long-standing romance with Tagaytay. It’s not a high-maintenance relationship. The physical connection is there. It is geographically close, easily accessible, and it doesn’t demand too much time or money. It’s the kind that will last over more decades.

Tagaytay is no stranger to me. I live in a Batangas town not too far away from Tagaytay. For the longest time, every time I would come back home, the van that I was riding would drive through the city. And since I started earning on my own, it would be my go-to place for clarity or peace of mind. And I’m not alone in this.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

UNDERSTANDING TAGAYTAY

Located just around 60km from Manila, Tagaytay City has always been the go-to destination for those wishing to escape the searing heat of the capital, especially in the summer season. They come here for two reasons: a cooler climate and a breathtaking view of Taal Lake and Volcano.

Most people think that Taal Volcano is the small cratered hill on one end of the island in the middle of the lake often depicted in postcards and photographs. The truth is, that is Binintiang Malaki , just one of the volcano’s many cones and craters. Taal Lake itself was actually the caldera of an enormous ancient volcano formed after cataclysmic eruptions in the prehistoric times. The only active part now is that island in the middle of the lake called Volcano Island .

Like a giant balcony with a fantastic view, Tagaytay is perched on the northern ridges of Taal Lake, attracting thousands of vacationers and supporting its massive tourism industry. Its highways and inner alleys are lined with a wide array of accommodations, from luxury villas to budget hotels, and restaurants, ranging from fine dining to its homegrown fast food places.

Tagaytay is also a great base for travelers who wish to explore neighboring municipalities like Alfonso and Amadeo, and even parts of Batangas like the volcano itself, Nasugbu, and Lemery.

Tagaytay takes a rectangular shape on the map, so it’s easy to navigate. At the very center of it is the Tagaytay Rotonda, from which stems out four main roads:

• Emilio Aguinaldo Highway , which connects Tagaytay to Imus, Dasmarinas, and Manila.
• Tagaytay-Calamba Road , which links the city to the towns of Laguna. If you’re coming from South Luzon Express Way (SLEX), you’ll eventually hit this road going to Tagaytay.
• Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway , which can take you to Alfonso (Cavite) and Nasugbu and Lemery (Batangas).
• Tagaytay-Talisay Road , which cuts across a forested slope to Talisay (Batangas), where Taal Volcano is located.

Being familiar with these roads will make your travel planning a lot easier, especially when picking a hotel and places to visit.

Here are more useful bits about Tagaytay.

• Language: Tagalog is used by most. But English is widely understood and spoken.
• Currency: Philippine peso (PHP, ₱). PHP100 is around USD 1.90, EUR 1.69, SGD 2.57 (as of April 2019).
• Modes of payment: Credit cards are accepted by many establishments but CASH is still king (and queen) in Tagaytay.
• Electricity Info: 220V, 60Hz. Plug and socket Type A.

WHERE TO STAY IN TAGAYTAY

In places like El Nido or Batanes, I usually don’t mind staying in a guest house with no view and no frills because I would be spending much of my time outside anyway. But Tagaytay is one of those destinations where accommodations can make or break a trip. It’s all about the ambience and the experience. Whether you’re visiting Tagaytay to unwind, attend a conference, or have a romantic weekend, it is important to consider the location.

Best Area to Stay in Tagaytay

Tagaytay has become a major tourist magnet that it has become almost synonymous with this corner of Cavite. Property-owners often market and label their hotels, lodges or guesthouses “Tagaytay” even when they are technically located in surrounding municipalities like Alfonso, Silang, and Mendez. Try to keep that in mind when searching for a place to stay.

For tourists, there are three main areas that are great bases when exploring Tagaytay and nearby towns:

• Tagaytay Rotonda Area. Often casually referred to as simply Olivarez. It is the center of the city. As explained above, the major roads running across the city start or end here. It is surrounded by countless lodging and dining options. It is also the main transportation hub.
• Along Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway. This is a little bit farther than the Rotonda area, but this has the best view of the lake and the volcano, provided that you book a hotel on the lakeside. This is also where SkyRanch and Ayala Malls Serin are located.
• Along Tagaytay-Calamba Road. This area is closest to tourist spots like Tagaytay Picnic Grove and People’s Park in the Sky. Lots of restaurant and hotel options too, with some also offering a good view of the lake.

Personally, I like staying along Tagaytay-Nasugbu Road because it’s a lot quieter and has the best view of the lake. If you don’t trust my word, here are the top budget hotels in Tagaytay as scored by Agoda users.

Top Budget Hotels and BnBs in Tagaytay

The best hotels in Tagaytay are expensive, but there are some exceptions. Bed-and-breakfast places also offer a great alternative. Here’s a list compiled using Agoda reviews.

If budget is an issue, then ditch the hotel and consider staying at a BnB, guesthouse, or apartment for rent, which are significantly cheaper. There’s been a considerable number of condo units for rent at Wind Residences (SMDC) along Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway and Tagaytay Prime Residences near Rotonda. How to get to tagaytay, manila to tagaytay by bus.

You can catch a bus to Tagaytay at the following terminals.

• Uniwide Coastal Mall in Paranaque. Make your way to the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), also called South West Integrated Provincial Terminal. Board a bus bound for Tagaytay, Mendez (neighboring town), or Nasugbu. This bus will be taking Emilio Aguinaldo Highway.
• DLTB Terminal at LRT Buendia area (near LRT Gil Puyat Station), Pasay City. Board the bus bound for either Nasugbu or Calatagan. This will be taking South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and Carmona Exit and will pass through Tagaytay.

Fare: Around P87. Travel time is 2-3 hours, depending on traffic conditions. Might be much longer during rush hour.

Some important reminders.

• DO NOT TAKE THE BUS TO LEMERY. Lemery-bound buses take the SLEX + STAR Toll. It doesn’t pass through Tagaytay. Buses are not allowed to take Diokno Highway, which connects Tagaytay and Lemery. I know this because I’m from Lemery and our house is very close to Diokno Highway.
• If your hotel is located along Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway and you’re on a Nasugbu or Calatagan bus, you don’t need to get off at Olivarez or Rotonda. You can stay in the bus and tell the conductor to drop you off at the hotel.
• If you’re going to SkyRanch or Wind Residences , there’s a big chance the bus will not really pass by either even if the driver or conductor says so. Most buses take Mahogany Avenue, which bypasses a section of Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway approaching Mendez. Instead, they will drop you off at the Petron Gas Station. That’s okay, though, because it’s within walking distance. (SkyRanch is a longer walk but very manageable.) SEE MAP BELOW.

Manila to Tagaytay by Van

You can also ride a shared van to Tagaytay. Vans bound for Nasugbu, Calatagan or Lemery pass through Tagaytay. You can find one at the following places.

• Starmall EDSA-Shaw. You’ll find vans bound for Lemery at the terminal in front of the mall, along EDSA.
• Alabang. There are vans bound for Tagaytay at Festival Mall Alabang, near the Goldilocks exit. (I haven’t tried it, though.) In addition, there used to be vans bound for Lemery dispatched from the parking area of Starmall Alabang. But they already moved to the area behind the mall, near the ukay-ukay area and PNR Train counter. The number of available vans and passengers has been dwindling so you might be in for quite the wait.
• Metropoint Mall. I’m not sure if there are still vans here going to Calatagan. There used to be, but I haven’t checked in a long time. If there still is, you can take the van going to Calatagan. If vans no longer operate here, you can cross to the other side of EDSA and catch a bus to Calatagan instead.

Whatever you take, tell the driver to drop you off in Tagaytay.

Fare is P180-P200, depending on which part of Manila you’re originating. It’s pricier because vans behave like point-to-point shuttles. Even though you’re alighting in Tagaytay, you’re still paying for the full journey. A passenger getting off in Tagaytay pays the same as another getting off in Batangas.

Important reminders:

• If you’re taking a van to Lemery, tell the driver to drop you off in Tagaytay. Unlike their bus counterparts, Lemery-bound vans usually pass through Tagaytay. However, there are instances when the driver chooses to take the SLEX-STAR Tollway route. It usually happens when there is heavy traffic in Tagaytay/Santa Rosa areas. To be sure, let the driver know that your destination is Tagaytay so he won’t take any detour.
• Vans don’t follow any fixed schedule. The vehicle will NOT leave the terminal unless it is full. If you’re in a hurry and there’s only one vacant seat, you can pay for it and the driver will gladly start the journey. If time is of the essence and there are a lot of empty seats, take the bus instead.

HOW TO GET AROUND TAGAYTAY

There are no taxis in Tagaytay, and Grab doesn’t have any presence either. There are only three modes of transportation available:

• Jeepney. When traveling within the city, the most usual way is by jeepney. From Olivarez/Rotonda, you can take a jeepney to any direction. You can also ride one from any point along the highway back to the city center. Minimum fare is P9, which increases as you go father.
• Bus. You can also take the bus if you’re coming from Rotonda area and going to Mendez, Alfonso, Nasugbu or any destination along Nasugbu-Tagaytay Highway.
• Tricycle. This is the closest thing to a taxi that you can get. You can charter a tricycle to take you straight to your destination. When I asked, “special trips” within the city cost P100. Special, meaning you won’t be sharing the tricycle with anyone else. But if you’re going to the city center, you can pay the per-person charge, which should be around P20. Maybe higher or lower, depending on distance.

THINGS TO DO IN TAGAYTAY & NEARBY TOWNS

Taal volcano.

UPDATE! Taal Volcano recently erupted and is closed to the public.

Tagaytay offers the best views of Taal Volcano. But you know what’s better than admiring it from afar? Being on the volcano itself. From Tagaytay, you can travel to the Batangan town of Talisay, where you can charter a boat that can take you to the volcano island. Once there, you’ll start your trek to the breathtaking caldera. Good if you’re a group so you could split the expenses.

How to get there: From Tagaytay, you can charter a tricycle to take you to Talisay for P150-200. Then, find a boat, which costs P2000 (maximum of 6 pax). It’s also possible to reach Talisay by jeepney, but I don’t have the details.

I’m not fully familiar with this route, to be honest. I’ve been to Taal Volcano and hiked to its main caldera before, but I didn’t come from Tagaytay. I went straight to Talisay via Tanauan.

SkyRanch Tagaytay

SkyRanch is a relatively new attraction in Tagaytay. Perched on a cliff, overlooking the lake, this is an amusement park built for the enjoyment of the whole family. There are rides for kids and activities for the kids-at-heart. The most arresting structure is the SkyEye , a 63-meter ferris wheel with 32 gondolas. It’s also lined with restaurants and food kiosks!

Hours open Monday-Friday, 10am-10pm Saturday-Sunday, 8am-10pm

Entrance Fee Weekdays: P80 Weekends: P100

Tagaytay Picnic Grove

Another family-friendly park in Tagaytay. For the longest time, this was the go-to place for relaxation, but a lot has changed (or have not changed) over the years. More attractions like the zipline and cable car ride were introduced, which are great for families. I personally think the park itself has lost its main appeal. But check it out regardless.

Entrance fee: P50

Parking Fee: P35, cars; P50, vans or jeepneys.

Zipline & Cable Car Rates: Weekdays: 1-way ride, P200; 2-way ride, P300. Weekend/Holidays: 1-way ride, P300; 2-way ride, P400.

Hut/Cottage Rental: P100, P150, P300, P500

Operating hours: 7am-7pm

People’s Park in the Sky

It used to be known as Palace in the Sky. Built under Marcos in 1979, it was supposed to be a guest house for visiting US President Ronald Reagan. But due to turning political tides back then, the “palace” was not finished and the visit cancelled. After the EDSA revolution, the name changed to People’s Park in the Sky.

Today, it hasn’t been well-maintained but remains a top attraction in Tagaytay because of the fantastic vista. After all, it stands at the highest point of Tagaytay, allowing a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape.

How to get there: From Olivarez, charter a tricycle for P150 for special trip or P50 per person.

Puzzle Mansion

Puzzle-lovers unite! The Puzzle Mansion in Tagaytay’s Barangay Asisan houses the world’s largest collection of jigsaw puzzles — all 1028 pieces of them — as certified by the Guiness Book of World Records. This was owned by Georgina Gil-Lacuna who collected these puzzles from her travels.

Entrance fee: P100

Hours open: 8am-5pm

How to get there: From Olivarez/Rotonda, ride a jeepney bound for Alfonso or Nasugbu. Get off at Brgy. Asisan. You can tell the driver to drop you off at the corner going to Puzzle Mansion. Fare: P15. Then hail a tricycle to take you to Puzzle House. Fare: P100.

Caleruega is located in Nasugbu, Batangas, but it is easily accessible from Tagaytay. The place got its name from the municipality of Caleruega in Spain, the birthplace of the father of the Order of the Preachers, Saint Dominic de Guzman. It was built to serve as a venue for contemplation, but has made a name for itself over the years as one of the most well-known wedding venues in the country. It also harbors well-maintained retreat houses and well-manicured gardens.

How to get there: At Olivarez/Rotonda, take the jeepney bound for Nasugbu and tell the driver to drop you off at Hillcrest/Evercrest. Fare: P25. From KC Hillcrest entrance, hail a tricycle to Caleruega Chapel. Fare: P50.

Fantasy World

Fantasy World is an unfinished theme park project in the middle of the rolling hills of Lemery, Batangas. (Yep, it’s in Lemery!) Although the construction was halted, they were able to build the castle, which was the park’s centerpiece.

Over the past years, it has become a filming location for movies like Got 2 Believe (starring Claudine Barretto and Rico Yan) and Fantastica (Vice Ganda) and TV shows like GMA 7’s Majika (Angel Locsin, Dennis Trillo).

The rides are not operational, but the park and the castle remains Instagram-worthy. It’s a favorite prenup spot too.

Entrance fee: P100 per person. This used to be P1000 for a group of 10, but this has been changed in November 2019.

How to get there: From Olivarez, ride a jeepney or bus to Boundary (Cavite-Batangas boundary). Fare: P25 for jeepney, P39 for bus. At the boundary, ride a jeepney bound for Lemery and ask to be dropped off in front of Fantasy World. Fare: P18. If there are no jeepneys, you can take a tricycle but it’s pricey. Fare is P200 per ride (not per person).

Tip: There is a cafe nearby called “ Brewed For You .” If you’re visiting around lunch time or you just get hungry, you can stop by and have a bowl of Batangas lomi (P100) and a cup of kapeng barako (P40).

Tagaytay Food Trip

One of the things my cousins and I used to do when we were kids was count the number of restaurants when we were passing through Tagaytay. Many of them are standing strong to this day. From local bulaluhan to western restaurants to food parks to fast food chains, there’s no shortage of dining places in Tagaytay.

Leslie’s and Josephine Restaurant are two local favorites for families. Don’t forget to order a bowl of sinful bulalo! If you’re celebrating something special or you’re simply after ambiance and elegance, there’s Antonio’s Restaurant and Sonya’s Garden (farther in Alfonso).

Bag of Beans has also made a name for themselves for their generous servings of scrumptious dishes. Aside from their main branch along Mendez Crossing, they have five other branches now including one at Summit Ridge (near Robinson’s Supermarket and SM Wind Residences) and one near Silang Crossing (Athena). Try their roast beef!

There budget-friendly places too. Mushroom Burger is the first that comes to mind. It’s a fast-food-style resto featuring mushrooms as their main ingredients. If you’re staying along Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway, you can easily get here. If you’re coming from SkyRanch, it’s just a 10-minute walk away.

SAMPLE TAGAYTAY ITINERARY

Below is a sample overnight Tagaytay itinerary, good for a weekend. It assumes you’re a party of two, splitting some of the costs and taking public transportation from Manila.

If you spend P2400 on accommodations (P1200 per person), the itinerary above will set you back around P3400 (USD 67, SGD 90, EUR 60) per person, with some allowance for incidental expenses.

Note that the bulk of the cost is the zipline, which costs P300 on weekdays and P400 on weekends. If you’re not interested in this, you can skip this too.

If you decide to skip Fantasy World and Zipline, the total cost will be pushed down to only around P2800 (USD 54, SGD 73, EUR 48) per person.

Any more helpful detailed instructions other than “van terminal near the station” for LRT Gil Puyat? Would like to find that FX terminal. (By the way, no signs for visiting commuters that says LRT Buendia, just LRT “Gil Puyat”.) Second question: do you know that the DLTB terminal there is still running services from that terminal to Tagaytay, and have not been moved to PITX?

Hi! We checked again today and found that there are no longer vans bound for Lemery near the LRT station. But the DLTB bus terminal still operates there.

Hi! We’re also going to tagaytay next week. Meron pong bus from PITX going tagaytay. Meron din sa buendia na nag wawait sa harap ng mcdo. Para sure po try asking customer service sa PITX. Hope this helps! :)

Even though I visit NYC often, this is the only restaurant I have been to more than once... 3 times to be exact. The host even remembers me now. I went here on a Thursday night to celebrate me and my twin sister's birthday. We... were a party of 8 and decided to do Kamayan night since it was a special occasion. While we waited for everyone to arrive, we ordered drinks at the bar. The pinay colada is delicious. Even though it's a little more expensive than some of the other drinks, it is huge and comes in a pineapple. The only downside is that it was pretty filling which meant less room in my belly for food. Once we were all there, we were seated to a beautiful feast! Our server gave us a tutorial on how to eat with our hands and explained what everything was. The table is covered with banana leaves and the food is spread out all over the table. A few days before our dinner, we had to confirm our appetizer and entree choices. The meal also comes with rice (pay extra for garlic rice!), puto (steamed rice cake), and longanisa (sausage), as well as some sauces for dipping. For appetizers, we chose lumpia (filipino egg rolls) and banana ketchup ribs. You really can't go wrong with lumpia. I haven't met anyone yet who doesn't like lumpia. The ribs were tasty and tender. For the entree, we ordered the shrimp adobo, bicol express, and kare kare fried chicken. The shrimp adobo was yummy but my least favorite entree. I also don't like eating anything that takes extra work including peeling shrimp. The bicol express is a pork dish in coconut milk. It had an excellent flavor and texture. If you like peanuts, you will enjoy the kare kare chicken. I happen to love peanut butter so I really enjoyed this. There was so much food but we just couldn't finish it all even though we really tried. We had some good eaters in our party, too. We were given boxes to take our leftovers home. We ended the meal with halo halo (ice cream), topped with a candle for the birthday girls. The meal was absolutely delicious (masarap!) and something fun and different to eat with your hands. The service was great. I love the host and our server was great as well. I can't wait to go back. More

You would walk right by it, but don't! The Kamayan feast was succulent and just incredible! We celebrated a birthday there and it is one we will never forget. Make reservations far in advance. It is truly an experience!

My friend and I decided to have dinner at Maharlika, Jeepney's sister restaurant, and at the end of our meal I suggested we order Halo-Halo which I assumed any self-respecting Filipino restaurant would have. Alas, they did nor have it. Of course, our waiter suggested... we trek to Jeepney, a few blocks uptown on 1st Ave., and I am sure glad we did. Not only did Jeepney have Halo-Halo, but it was the special one that has Ube ice-cream on top. When I asked the bartender why it wasn't served at the other place he logically stated that they did not want to cannibalize each other. Well said.. More

Have been here on several occasions with friends and had a great experience. Recently took my parents during a visit to New York and was sorely disappointed by the service. We arrived on time for our reservation and saw the front of house give away... a table he had indicated would be ours to a group of twenty-something's who came in without a reservation ten minutes after us -- I guess people over 40 aren't welcome at Jeepney. After finally being seated more than 45 minutes after our reservation, we waited another twenty minutes to have our order taken, saw the bartender call a "staff meeting" at which all the wait staff took a shot, and had food come out at irregular intervals and after quite a wait. Food was delicious, but service was unprofessional and irritating. Will not be going back to a place that is so clearly unwelcoming to anyone other than a good-looking twenty year-old. More

We came here for brunch as a small group, we all ordered “silog”. Very disappointing. Tapsilog doesnt taste good. The meat was not tender, it didnt taste like marinated at all... The longsilog was very bland... The bangsilog was poorly prepared... not worth the price... at all! They should learn how to cook Filipino food. More

I checked Jeepney's website before our US trip so I had an idea of what to expect. I also had Google maps to guide me but it was not that difficult to find. I made a reservation but it must have been a slow night... because there were quite a few empty tables. The bar was a nice touch, along with the typical items you would find in a Filipino home. I liked that. The menu was not extensive but enough to give non-Filipinos or expat Filipinos a taste of good homecooked Filipino food. We went for the pancit malabon and the coconut shrimp which were amazing. My son had sisig which he enjoyed. Would have loved the kamayan feast but we came in on the wrong day. The serving, I find, was not typical of restaurants in America, i.e. they are small which is in keeping with the Philippines. It was very good food, don't get me wrong, just that for the price, I would have expected a bit more. Still, a nice experience to have in NYC. More

On Wednesday and Thursday night, Jeepney offers a special Kamayan dinner exquisitely presented on banana leaves that you eat with your hands. It's a unique experience for the most jaded diner. The food is sumptuous, the format is fun. You can even order it on... other nights if you can get together a table for 10 people. You must reserve a table for 4 or more people well in advance to participate. You can also direct them to use ingredients you prefer or avoid those you don't. The drinks are also quiet special and made with love. Can't recommend it enough. More

This summer, I was lucky enough to spend 4 amazing weeks in the Philippines. After returning to NYC, and moving to the EV, I feel super lucky that Jeepney (and its sister restaurant, Maharlika) are so near to my apartment - now I can satisfy... my Sisig craving whenever necessary (phew). Friday night I ate at Jeepney, the place was packed and we only had a reservation for 2 people, but a 3rd friend decided to join. The hostess rearranged some chairs, and plopped us in the corner of the bar - we were pleased (she was SO accommodating given the circumstance)! Everything we ate was awesome, but I think the fried chicken kare kare and the short rib were my favorite. Prior to Jeepney, I only had kare kare with oxtail, but the fried chicken and runny egg on Jeepney's menu paired perfectly with the yummy gravy. The Lumpia Sari (which we added octopus too) was very tasty too, and like nothing I tried before. The SMLs also made me really happy (why doesn't every bar in NYC carry these??) Simply put, Jeepney (like most Filipino people I've met) had great vibes, and I can't wait to return. Salamat po Jeepney! More

We reserved a table for 4 for their Kamayan night. A buffet of food is spread out on banana leaves right on the table as soon as you arrive. The drinks are amazing made by their awesome bartender. You get to eat with your hands... or with utensils if you really can't help it. Did I get mention you build the entire menu yourself the week before? It's too much fun. We've been here for many other occasions too for regular brunch/dinner, and it's always fantastic. Cured steak and garlic rice for the win. My first time here, being a Filipino, they don't really serve the authentic food. They cater more to Americans. When I got our bill for 3, it was $200. So my husband said he wants fried fish, they didn't tell us the price - cost... us $50 - all shriveled up old fish that's fried- I say maybe worth $5. The place was crowded and space was tight. Their chicharon bulaklak was awful😳! We only had 2 alcohol drinks. It was very musty inside. I recommend you go somewhere else and eat😭😭😭... More

Kamayan Night is a special night at Jeepney where you and your guests share a feast of Filipino food spread out over a banana leaf covered table. By the way, there are no utensils, you just use your hands in the traditional style. The staff... is very friendly & welcoming and the atmosphere is so inviting. The aroma when you first walk in sets off your senses in all directions. The food... Oh the food!! So delicious. All of the food is laid out over a bed of garlic rice, which by itself is so tasty. Stopped by for brunch, and I was pleasantly surprised by how authentic and delicious the food was here! The lumpia are crisp and flavorful. I had the longanisa burger which was sweet and savory. They also have a bottomless drink option.

As a true blooded Filipino,I always prefer to visit a filipino restaurant whenever I am in different place. I was in New York meeting up family and few long time friends.We were all excited to try the food at Jeepney. We were there at 2pm,Lunch... time but what's available in their menu were those filipino combo meal like longsilog, tapsilog....I had Pinakbet,that was the worst pinakbet i ever had.The soup that goes with the order was disgusting sinigang broth,very salty. The prices were terribly high for the kind of food and ambience Jeepney offered. Guys out there! If you happen to be in the city of New York and you crave for a filipino dish,forget about Jeepney! It's not worth the trip! More

Supposed to serve the best hamburger in NYC. I do not think so. $18 for a burger in a "gastropub" in the East Village is a little crazy. It was just okay. The staff is nice. Too far to travel for a "just okay" burger.

Coming as a true-blooded Filipino who's lived in the US for over 30 years, forget Jeepney. The fact that these people would call the place a gastropub already establishes their pretentiousness. There are no restaurants in Manila or elsewhere in RPI which label themselves as... such. My friend and I went on a quiet Sunday afternoon for lunch and they had the brunch menu. Some of the items on the menu are Filipino dishes but the other half are mere concoctions that have nothing to do with Filipino cuisine, like the Jeepney-version of the eggs benedict which came with a strange curry-like sauce, hash and salad. The classic fried lumpia shanghai has been demoted to this tasteless spring roll with a forgettable filling. The halo-halo dessert was not bad but how can anyone, even a non-Filipino, mess up a concoction of shaved ice, beans, evaporated milk and ice cream? Finally,we thought everything was super-expensive for Filipino food. Fifteen-18 dollars for a brunch item, 8 dollars for lumpia? It would be cheaper to actually fly to Manila and dine in an authentic Filipino restaurant there. My advise as a Filipino - stay away. It's too bad because I happen to think our cuisine as a nation truly has great merit. It's too bad also that all these foreigners will actually think Filipino food tastes like this. More

Via aguinaldo highway.

• There are buses from Pasay or Buendia, take a bus bound for Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan or Alfonso. Fare is about P100++
• Tagaytay does not have a bus terminal. Buses stop in Olivarez Plaza.
• There are tricycles for hire where you can take a ride to your hotel or destination.

Via Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road

• There are jeepneys bound to Tagaytay from Balibago Complex in Sta. Rosa City.
• They will drop you off Tagaytay City Market.
• You can take a tricycle ride to bring you to your hotel or destination.

GETTING AROUND TAGAYTAY

• Buses - most of them are buses en route to some parts of Batangas. They take the Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway which is the main road in the city.
• Jeepneys - there are a few jeepney routes in Tagaytay. Most of them have routes to Nasugbu, Silang and nearby places.
• Tricycles - The closest thing they have to a taxi are the tricycles. They used to be relegated to the side streets that connect to the Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway, but you can now hire them to take you to almost anywhere you want to go to in Tagaytay City.

How the Jeepney Became a Filipino National Symbol

Down the chaotic Manila streets, alongside large buses, private cars, and taxi cabs, an eye-catching, anachronistic vehicle carelessly makes its way through. It’s painted with bright colors and adorned with gaudy accessories. This is the Philippine jeepney , a post-World War II innovation, a cultural symbol, and the undisputed “King of the Road”.

Locally referred to as a jeepney or jeep, this interesting-looking vehicle is an affordable mode of Philippine public transport. With designated routes, which are usually painted on their sides or displayed on their windshields, jeepneys stop anywhere along the way to pick up or let off passengers.

Jeepneys are stretched long enough to accommodate around 15 to 25 passengers, have open ventilation through windows all along their side and an open backdoor for easy passenger embarkation and disembarkation. Jeepneys are famously characterized by their vibrant, multicolored paint jobs and flashy decor, so much so that through the years, they have become a symbol of the country and its culture.

The history of the iconic jeepney bears a resemblance to that of the equally iconic Filipino dish, sisig(sizzling chopped parts of the pig’s head): both were products of ingenious innovation. Just as sisig was created by making the most of cheap throw-away cuts of pigs from the US Air Base in Pampanga, the jeepney was up-cycled from leftover U.S. Willy Jeeps used during World War II.

In the early 1950s, jeepneys began making their rounds in Manila. Soon, they became a solution to the post-war public transportation problem.

Filipinos lengthened the American vehicle to accommodate more passengers, and attached a roof to protect them from the scorching Philippine heat. The seats were removed and replaced with two benches that stretched lengthwise on either side, allowing more seating space, and leaving a narrow space down the middle for an aisle. Jeepney drivers started to adorn their new vehicles with striking colors and images of anything that suited their fancy, from holy Catholic imagery to pictures of the Philippine countryside to word art and their favorite cartoon characters.

One of the early jeepney producers was Sarao Motors. They began making the vehicles in 1953 and quickly shot to the top of the production ranks, recognized for quality output. They also contributed to the framing of the jeepney as a Philippine cultural icon.

Jeepneys as a cultural symbol

The jeepney as public transport is unique to the Philippines . It is a proudly Pinoy creation. Considering its history, it has also become a reflection of the Filipino spirit — resilient, innovative, and optimistic.

But another significant factor in making the jeepney a cultural symbol of the Philippines was Sarao Motors. The popular automotive manufacturing company created jeepneys that were shipped overseas and displayed in tourism exhibitions in cities like New York and London as a Philippine icon. Back home in the Philippines , movements promoting the jeepney as a Filipino symbol were being carried out as well. Today, not only are jeepneys flaunted in the streets of the country, but they also grace the shelves of souvenir shops in miniature form.

Much has been said through the past few decades about phasing out the jeepney to make way for much more efficient modes of public transport. While there have been extensive debates on the matter, and even a decline in jeepney production in the early 2000s, one thing in certain: they are still around. Surviving nearly 70 years of the country’s struggles, progress, and change, this cultural symbol proves that the King of the Road can withstand even the arduous test of time.

We finally experienced boodle fight in this one of a kind resto along maginhawa street. Even my foreigner bf and my nephew loves the ambiance and the food quality in this place. Rest assured, all their prices both for a la carte and boodle package... are all VALUE SAVERS! We will definitely recommend this boodle fight jeepney-inspired restaurant for families, friends and couples. It doesn't only give its customers delicious food but also a memorable experience to treasure=) More

Had dinner here and my first taste of Filipino food. Ordered host of food but what remained in my memory was the Crispy Pata - Good! Very crispy! How the food was served in a big tray together with rice in the middle was interesting.... Will visit again the next time I am in Manila. More

I was taken here on my first night in the Philippines by my Filipino hosts, and what a great, fun choice it was! We sat in the Jeepney (which I had only seen for the first time a few hours before), and ordered the Seafood... Pasig, which serves 4-6 people, and cost P1,680. The feast arrived on huge palm leaves, and we dug in with our (washed!) hands. Very communal! The food was delicious, with the squid, the crispy shrimps and a chicken liver dish my favourites. Great meal, and great experience. One to remember! More

the whole place is tired and in need of total up grade. not a nice place to eat at all. un cared for not overly clean. FOOD> not up to the usual Pinoy standard really not a place to make a special trip to as... we did Sorry Jerrys we will not be coming back and thats from my wife who is Filipino let alone me an Englishman. We came to eat here late night on a sunday for the birthday celebration of my brother. It will take a lot of waiting time if you want to dine in their jeepney inspired tables. Bad thing is the space inside these "jeepney table setup... is small. We opted to dine inside the aircon area. We ordered the pancit mix, kare-kare, pork sisig, crispy pata, crispy hipon, lechon kawali, jeepeny rice and bibingka. The pata, hipon anfd lechon kawali were not crispy. And they did not even serve it hot. The only food we enjoyed was the kare -kare and bibingka. The sisig was too salty. This is probably the first and last time we will dine here More

Located along Maginhawa Street in Quezon City. From the entrance, you will feel welcome with the colorful “jeepneys” which doubles as dining tables. This is dining semi al fresco as you are outside the main dining area but still sheltered from the weather. The main... dining area is air-conditioned but space is small with approximately 8 tables fitted in but I saw a separate dining area which maybe used for a large group. Food sets are named after popular places in Metro Manila (Quiapo, Cubao, Ayala, Monumento, Alabang) and served “boodle fight” style . Sets are good for 2-4 persons or 4-6 persons, however, you can also order meals ala carte. After ordering your food, you won’t get bored because they have Pinoy games to while away the time: you can play Dama, Sungka and not so Pinoy “rubic’s cube”. For the price of P700+ for the meal we ordered (Ayala), I’d say that it is just about right for the 4 persons sharing the meal. You have rice, inihaw/grilled ng tilapia, crispy hipon, ensaladang talong, inihaw ng liempo, sinigang soup and iced tea. For the rice and grilled fish, you are given 3 options to choose from rice: plain, bagoong, garlic / fish: bangus, hito, tilapia. We were satisfied with the food, price and the upkeep of the restaurant (note: clean comfort room). But what delighted us most was the service of the restaurant personnel. They are friendly and accommodating (they will gladly offer to take your group shots). My friends and I were done eating and already paid our bill but we stayed on the table nearest the main entrance to chat. It is summer time and weather is quite hot, so we were surprised when a crew served us glasses of water. From my point of view as a customer, the restaurant is no longer “required” to serve us since we’ve finished dining with them, but this thoughtful act is a big plus. Am I coming back? Definitely yes! Yesterday was my sis birthday, after spending the whole afternoon and early evening with all of my sis and their children at ACE water spa, my sis decided to end her birthday with a dinner treat fitted for a large group such as ours. She... decided to have it at this place along east kapitolyo which was near ACE since everybody was already hungry and tired especially the children. She ordered two large package, the most expensive so that there would be enough food foe everybody. It was really enticing in the picture, a large spread of food with a variety of choices grills. Alas, when the actual order came, we were shocked. I was dissapointed. The actual looked substantiably less from what was in the picture. Even the taste was just so so, nothing you can't get from any other filipino grill resto. Staff service was uninspiring, they seemed to be either too tired o just bored at what they're serving. And for that kind of food spread. It was expensive and it was not worth it. Won't recommend it. I was waiting for something to redeem it but I left the place saying to myself that was downright unfair. Side note: we were all so dismayed that even though we just came from dinner, we all decided to go to a McDonald's drive thru before heading home just to blur our experience that to sum it all up in two words... wrong choice! Nothing extraordinary on food taste. I tried their branch in Pasig and just so happened, the weather is gloomy so it's quite applicable to dine outside in their jeepney set. Food servings are small. Their adobo is good but to rate their food, it's just... average. Just good for taking pictures with their colorful jeepneys for social media. The price is not appropriate to its serving. So 'kinda pricey. More

We arrived noon and we're able to find seats right away. The jeepneys are instagrammable but needs improvement. It should have floor and bigger seats. They serve affordable Filipino food on a boodle fight package or per dish order. Food is delicious but not so... special. More

the food is simply Filipino. you might find the menu with nothing special in it but if you are a "probinsyano" like me, who had been staying in the city and had been eating fast food for quite a while, you'd find the menu refreshing.... the food is great for group sharing. If you’re planning a trip to Moscow during fall (September-November) try to plan for early fall. This way the temperatures will still be pleasant and winter won’t be threatening.

Russian winters (December-February) are not for the faint of heart as Napoleon learned to his peril. Some days the sun will be out for less than an hour, and snow is guaranteed. Although winters are exceptionally cold, this is when you’ll get a true glimpse of the Moscow experience!

The Red Square is Moscow’s historic fortress and the center of the Russian government. The origins of the square date back to the late 15th century, when Ivan the Great decided to expand the Kremlin to reflect Moscow’s growing power and prestige!

During the 20th century, the square became famous as the site for demonstrations designed to showcase Soviet strength. Visiting the Red Square today, you’ll find it teeming with tourists, who come to witness its magical architecture up close!

The square is the picture postcard of Russian tourism, so make sure to bring your camera when you visit! No matter the season, or the time of day, it’s delightfully photogenic! 

It’s also home to some of Russia’s most distinguishing and important landmarks, which we’ve made sure to include further down in this itinerary. It’s an important center of Russia’s cultural life and one of the top places to visit in Moscow!

Day 1 / Stop 2 – The Moscow Kremlin

The iconic Moscow Kremlin , also known as the Kremlin museum complex, sits on Borovitsky Hill, rising above the Moscow River. It is a fortified complex in the center of the city, overlooking several iconic buildings in the Red Square!

It’s the best known of the Russian Kremlins – citadels or fortress’ protecting and dominating a city. During the early decades of the Soviet era, the Kremlin was a private enclave where the state’s governing elite lived and worked.

The Kremlin is outlined by an irregularly shaped triangular wall that encloses an area of 68 acres! The existing walls and towers were built from 1485 to 1495. Inside the Kremlin museum complex, there are five palaces, four cathedrals, and the enclosing Kremlin Wall with Kremlin towers.

The Armoury Chamber is a part of the Grand Kremlin Palace’s complex and is one of the oldest museums of Moscow, established in 1851. It showcases Russian history and displays many cherished relics. Definitely make sure to check out this museum while you’re here!

The churches inside the Moscow Kremlin are the Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel, Church of the Annunciation, and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki (a church tower).

The five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition is considered the most famous. It was built from 1475–1479 by an Italian architect and has served as a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars, and emperors of Russia. Church services are given in the Kremlin’s numerous cathedrals on a regular basis.

The Grand Kremlin Palace was the former Tsar’s Moscow residence and today it serves as the official workplace of the President of the Russian Federation (Vladimir Putin seems to have bagged that title for life) .

Day 1 / Stop 3 – Lenin’s Mausoleum

• Why it’s awesome: The mausoleum displays the preserved body of Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin .

• Food nearby: Khinkal’naya is a charming Georgian restaurant with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick. It’s a popular place with locals and right next to the Red Square!

Lenin’s Mausoleum, also known as Lenin’s Tomb, is the modernist mausoleum for the revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin. It’s located within the Red Square and serves as the resting place for the Soviet leader! His preserved body has been on public display since shortly after his death in 1924.

It’s located just a few steps away from the Kremlin Wall and is one of the most controversial yet popular Moscow attractions!

Admission is free for everyone, you’ll only need to pay if you need to check a bag. Before visitors are allowed to enter the mausoleum, they have to go through a metal detector first. No metal objects, liquids, or large bags are allowed in the mausoleum!

Expect a line to enter the building, and while you’re inside the building, you’ll be constantly moving in line with other visitors. This means you won’t be able to spend as long as you’d like viewing the mausoleum, but you’ll still be able to get a good look. Pictures and filming while inside the building are strictly prohibited, and security guards will stop you if they see you breaking this rule.

The mausoleum is only open on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday – unless it’s a public holiday or a day scheduled for maintenance. The hours it’s open for each day are limited, make sure to check online before you visit to make sure you can fit this into your Moscow itinerary for that day!

Insider Tip: The Lenin’s Museum is there for people to pay their respect; remember to keep silent and move along quickly, it’s not intended for people to congregate around. Also, men are not allowed to wear hats and everyone must take their hands out of their pockets when inside the building.

Day 1 / Stop 4 – St. Basil’s Cathedral

• Why it’s awesome: A dazzling designed cathedral that showcases Russia’s unique architecture. This cathedral is one of the most recognizable symbols of the country!

Located in the Red Square, the ornate 16th-century St. Basil’s Cathedral is probably the building you picture when you think of Moscow’s unique architecture. Its colorful onion-shaped domes tower over the Moscow skyline!

The cathedral was built from 1555-1561 by order of Tsar Ivan the Terrible. It was designed with an iconic onion dome facade and enchanting colors that captivate all who see it. Fun fact: If you’re wondering why Russian churches have onion domes, they are popularly believed to symbolize burning candles!

This iconic cathedral has become a symbol of Russia due to its distinguishing architecture and prominent position inside the Red Square. It’s one of the most beautiful, wonderful, and mesmerizing historical cathedrals in the world!

The interior of the church surprises most people when they visit. In contrast to the large exterior, the inside is not so much one large area, but rather a collection of smaller areas, with many corridors and small rooms. There are 9 small chapels and one mausoleum grouped around a central tower.

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

The church rarely holds service and is instead a museum open for the public to visit.

Insider Tip: During the summer months the line to go inside the cathedral can get quite long! Make sure to arrive early or reserve your tickets online to guarantee quick access into the cathedral!

Day 1 / Stop 5 – GUM Department Store

• Why it’s awesome: This is Russia’s most famous shopping mall! It’s designed with elegant and opulent architecture and provides a real sense of nostalgia!
• Cost: Free to enter
• Food nearby: Stolovaya 57 is a cafeteria-style restaurant with a variety of inexpensive Russian cuisine menu items including soups, salads, meat dishes, and desserts. It’s also located inside the GUM department store, making it very easily accessible when you’re shopping!

The enormous GUM Department Store is located within the historic Red Square. It has a whimsical enchantment to it that sets it apart from your typical department store.

A massive domed glass ceiling lines the top of the building and fills the interior with natural sunlight. There are live plants and flowers placed throughout the mall that give the shopping complex a lively and cheerful feel! A playful fountain sits in the center, further adding to the malls inviting a sense of wonder and amusement!

The GUM department store opened on December 2, 1893. Today, it includes local and luxury stores, including Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and many more! There are numerous cafes, restaurants, and even a movie theater inside!

For a special treat, head into Gastronom 1. This 1950s-style shop sells gourmet food items, like wine, freshly-baked pastries, cheese, Russian chocolate, and of course, vodka! Also, be on the lookout for a bicycle pedaling ice cream truck with an employing selling ice cream!

The ambiance is simply amazing, a trip to this idyllic shopping mall is an absolute must on any Moscow itinerary!

Insider Tip: Make sure to carry some small change on you in case you need to use the restroom, you’ll need to pay 50 rubles – or about USD $0.80 to use the bathroom in GUM.

You’ll explore a few more of Moscow’s historic highlight as well as some modern attractions. These sites are a little more spread out, but still very easily accessible thanks to the metro!

Day 2 / Stop 1 – Novodevichy Convent

• Why it’s awesome: The Novodevichy Convent is rich in imperial Russian history and contains some of Russia’s best examples of classical architecture!

The Novodevichy Convent is the best-known and most popular cloister of Moscow. The convent complex is contained within high walls, and there are many attractions this site is known for! 

The six-pillared five-domed Smolensk Cathedral is the main attraction. It was built to resemble the Kremlin’s Assumption Cathedral and its facade boasts beautiful snowy white walls and a pristine golden onion dome as its centerpiece. It’s the oldest structure in the convent, built from 1524 -1525, and is situated in the center of the complex between the two entrance gates.

There are other churches inside the convent as well, all dating back from many centuries past. The convent is filled with an abundance of 16th and 17th-century religious artworks, including numerous large and extravagant frescos!

Just outside the convent’s grounds lies the Novodevichy Cemetery. Here, you can visit the graves of famous Russians, including esteemed authors, composers, and politicians. Probably the most intriguing gravestone belongs to Russian politician Nikita Khruschev!

The Novodevichy Convent is located near the Moscow River and offers a peaceful retreat from the busy city. In 2004, it was proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The convent remains remarkably well-preserved and is an outstanding example of Moscow Baroque architecture! 

Insider Tip: To enter the cathedrals inside the complex, women are advised to cover their heads and shoulders, while men should wear long pants.

Day 2 / Stop 2 – Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure

• Why it’s awesome: A large amusement area in the heart of the city offering many attractions!

• Food nearby: Check out Mepkato, located inside Gorky Central Park for a casual meal in a cozy setting. There are indoor and outdoor seating options and the restaurant is child-friendly!

Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure is a large green space in the heart of Moscow. The park opened in 1928, and it stretches along the scenic embankment of the Moskva River. It covers an area of 300-acres and offers a lovely contrast from the compact city center.

You’ll find all sorts of wonderful attractions, from boat rides to bike rentals to tennis courts and ping-pong tables, and much more! there are an open-air cinema and festive events and concerts scheduled in the summer months.  A wide selection of free fitness classes is also offered on a regular basis, including jogging, roller skating, and dancing!

Although many of the options you’ll find here are more suited for outdoor leisure during the summer, you’ll also a selection of winter attractions, including one of Europe’s largest ice rinks for ice-skating!

If you’re trying to decide what to do in Moscow with kids, the park also offers several venues designed specifically for kids. Check out the year-round Green School which offers hands-on classes in gardening and art! You can also feed the squirrels and birds at the Golitsinsky Ponds!

The park is very well maintained and kept clean and the entrance is free of charge, although most individual attractions cost money. There is also Wi-Fi available throughout the park.

With so many attractions, you could easily spend all day here! If you’re only planning a 2 day itinerary in Moscow, make sure to plan your time accordingly and map out all the areas you want to see beforehand!

Day 2 / Stop 3 – The State Tretyakov Gallery

• Why it’s awesome: The gallery’s collection consists entirely of Russian art made by Russian artists!
• Food nearby : Brothers Tretyakovs is located right across the street from the gallery. It’s a wonderfully atmospheric restaurant serving top quality food and drinks!

The State Tretyakov Gallery was founded in 1856 by influential merchant and collector Pavel Tretyakov.  The gallery is a national treasury of Russian fine art and one of the most important museums in Russia!

It houses the world’s best collection of Russian art and contains more than 130, 000 paintings, sculptures, and graphics! These works have been created throughout the centuries by generations of Russia’s most talented artists!

The exhibits range from mysterious 12th-century images to politically charged canvases. The collection is rich and revealing and offers great insight into the history and attitudes of this long-suffering yet inspired people!

All pictures are also labeled in English. If you plan to take your time and see everything inside the museum it will take a good 3-4 hours, so make sure to plan your Moscow trip itinerary accordingly! This gallery is a must-see stop for art lovers, or anyone wanting to explore the local culture and history of Russia in a creative and insightful manner!

Day 2 / Stop 4 – All-Russian Exhibition Center

• Why it’s awesome: This large exhibition center showcases the achievements of the Soviet Union in several different spheres. 
• Food nearby: Varenichnaya No. 1 serves authentic and homestyle Russian cuisine in an intimate and casual setting.

The All-Russian Exhibition Center is a massive park that presents the glory of the Soviet era! It pays homage to the achievements of Soviet Russia with its many different sites found on the property.

The center was officially opened in 1939 to exhibit the achievements of the Soviet Union. It’s a huge complex of buildings and the largest exhibition center in Moscow. There are several exhibition halls dedicated to different achievements and every year there are more than one hundred and fifty specialized exhibitions!

The Peoples Friendship Fountain was constructed in 1954 and is a highlight of the park. The stunning gold fountain features 16 gilded statues of girls, each representing the former Soviet Union republics. 

The Stone Flower Fountain was also built in 1954 and is worth checking out. The centerpiece of this large fountain is a flower carved from stones from the Ural Mountains! Along the side of the fountain are various bronze sculptures.

You will find many people zipping around on rollerblades and bicycles across the large area that the venue covers. It’s also home to amusement rides and carousels, making it the perfect place to stop with kids on your Moscow itinerary! Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and allow a few hours to explore all the areas that interest you!

Day 2 / Stop 5 – Bolshoi Theater

The Bolshoi Theater is among the oldest and most renowned ballet and opera companies in the world! It also boasts the world’s biggest ballet company, with more than 200 dancers!

The theater has been rebuilt and renovated several times during its long history. In 2011 it finished its most recent renovation after an extensive six-year restoration that started in 2005. The renovation included an improvement in acoustics and the restoration of the original Imperial decor.

The Bolshoi Theater has put on many of the world’s most famous ballet acts! Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake premiered at the theater in 1877 and other notable performances of the Bolshoi repertoire include Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker!

Today, when you visit the theater, you can expect a magical performance from skilled singers, dancers, and musicians with the highest level of technique!

If you don’t have time to see a show, the theater also provides guided tours on select days of the week. Tours are given in both Russian and English and will provide visitors with a more intimate look at the different areas of the theater!

The Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics is a museum dedicated to space exploration! The museum explores the history of flight, astronomy, space exploration, space technology, and space in the arts. It houses a large assortment of Soviet and Russian space-related exhibits, and the museum’s collection holds approximately 85,000 different items!

The museum does an excellent job of telling the full story of the exciting space race between the USSR and the US! It highlights the brightest moments in Russian history and humanity and is very interesting and fun for all ages!

The Alexander Garden

• A tranquil place to relax near the Red Square

The Alexander Garden was one of the first urban public parks in Moscow! The garden premiered in 1821 and was built to celebrate Russia’s victory over Napoleon’s forces in 1812!

The park is beautiful and well maintained with paths to walk on and benches to rest on. The park contains three separate gardens: the upper garden, middle garden, and lower garden.

Located in the upper garden, towards the main entrance to the park is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with its eternal flame. This monument was created in 1967 and contains the body of a soldier who fell during the Great Patriotic War!

The park stretches along all the length of the western Kremlin wall for about half a mile. Due to its central location in the city, it’ll be easily accessible when you’re out exploring The Red Square.

It provides a bit of relief from the city’s high-energy city streets. Bring a picnic lunch, go for a walk, or just sit and people watch, this is one of the best Moscow sites to wind-down and relax!

Ostankino Television Tower

• Television and radio tower in Moscow
• Currently the tallest free-standing structure in Europe
• Make sure you bring your passport when you visit, you can’t go up without it!

For spectacular views of the city, make sure to add the Ostankino Television Tower to your itinerary for Moscow! This impressive free-standing structure provides stunning views of the city in every direction. The glass floor at the top also provides great alternative views of the city!

It takes just 58 seconds for visitors to reach the Tower’s observation deck by super fast elevator. The tower is open every day for long hours and is a great site in Moscow to check out! The Izmailovo Kremlin was established as a cultural center and molded after traditional Russian architecture. This colorful complex is home to several single-subject museums, including a Russian folk art museum and a vodka museum!

Next to the Kremlin is the Izmailovo open-air market, which dates back to the 17th century! The market is connected to the Izmailovo Kremlin by a wooden bridge. Pick up all your Russian souvenirs here, including traditional handicrafts, paintings, books, retro toys, and Soviet memorabilia!

You will find many hand-made and hand-painted options available at higher prices, as well as mass-produced souvenir options at lower prices!

Museum of Soviet Arcade Games

For something a little different, check out the Museum of Soviet Arcade Games! The museum features roughly 60 machines from the Soviet era, including video games, pinball machines, and collaborative hockey foosball! The machines inside the museum were produced in the USSR in the mid-1970s.

The best part is, most of the games are still playable! Purchase tickets and try the games out for yourself! The museum also has a neat little screening room that plays old Soviet cartoons and an area with Soviet magazines! This unique attraction is a fun addition to a 3 day itinerary in Moscow, and an attraction that all ages will enjoy! 

Whether you’re spending one day in Moscow, or more, safety is an important thing to keep in mind when traveling to a big city! Overall, Moscow is a very safe place to visit. However, it is always recommended that tourists take certain precautions when traveling to a new destination!

The police in Moscow is extremely effective at making the city a safe place to visit and do their best to patrol all of the top Moscow, Russia tourist attractions. However, tourists can still be a target for pickpockets and scammers.

Moscow has a huge flow of tourists, therefore there is a risk for pickpocketing. Simple precautions will help eliminate your chances of being robbed. Stay vigilant, keep your items close to you at all times, and don’t flash your valuables!

If you’re planning a solo Moscow itinerary, you should have no need to worry, as the city is also considered safe for solo travelers, even women. Stay in the populated areas, try and not travel alone late at night, and never accept rides from strangers or taxis without a meter and correct signage.

Sergiev Posad (Golden Ring)

On this 7-hour guided tour, you’ll visit several scenic and historic areas of Russia. Start your day with hotel pick-up as you’re transferred by a comfortable car or minivan to Sergiev Posad.
