Me and my wife, both senior citizens, while touring in Nepal, and in the middle of the tour, in the second week of March 2017, suddenly decided, on an impulse, to visit Muktinath Temple. We know that it is a risky one. We have to book air tickets to Jomsom from Pokhara and back, hotel accommodation at Jomsom, jeep journey from Jomsom to Temple and back, we contacted Well Nepal Travel&Trek, Kathmandu. Mr Ramesh Ghimire, the M D of the travels readily undertook the customised tour programme and made all arrangements including pick up from hotel. We reached the airport at Pokhara early in the morning to fly to Jomsom in the Simrik airways. Initially the weather was unfavourable. Permission was received at about 0710 hr to fly. The duration of flight journey is about 20 minutes. We travelled for about12 to 13 minutes in the air towards Jomsom. Then weather again turned bad and the pilot brought the plane back to Pokhara. We waited up to 1000 AM. Weather didn’t relent. Finally the flight was cancelled. We were, naturally, very much disappointed. Mr Ramesh told us that he would make arrangements for the next day. But as we did not have time, we expressed our inability. Mr Ramesh was truly professional. He promptly returned the advance amount we have paid to him deducting some irrecoverable expenses like taxes to the government etc. I have my full appreciation for him for organising our tour even at the last minute intimation and for refunding the money very promptly. Well Nepal Travel proved to be efficient and trustworthy. We may be unlucky. Better to have 3 or 4 days at our disposal to offset such flight cancellations. Not only this, I understand that frequent bandhs or strikes are prevalent these days in Nepal. So we should have some extra days with us. Nepal is a very beautiful country. People are friendly and curteous. BountIful nature. Love to visit Nepal once again.

We commence the tour from Kathmandu by taking grace from Lord Pashupatinath. There will be a special aarti darshan during the evening time. All four doors of Pashupatinath will be opened and we can enter to see aarti.

On the second day, our destination will be Pokhara. It's the second largest city in Nepal and the main tourist hub to start and ends treks around Annapurna Region. We are going to catch our flight to Jomsom from here.

On the way to Pokhara, another attraction will be Manakamana Goddess Temple. It is believed that Manakamana Goddess has the power to fulfill the wishes of her devotees. So, daily there will be hundreds of pilgrimages from around Nepal and from India. We ride on 6 seated Cable Car for 10 mins and visit Manakamana Temple.

The third day is the main and adventurous day of our Muktinath tour package. We are going to visit Shree Muktinath Temple today. Most memorable trip to Muktinath

I am a solo Piligrimage Traveller and for the first time travelled through travel agency along with my Father. Fortunately my entire trip was like a surprise package since I had no clue about the routes that I would come across while traveling to Muktinath Temple. Nipender who was the Operations Lead at Lumle Travel Agency accompanied us throughout the duration and educated us about each and every detail of the locations and the history behind it. We had a very skilled and professional Driver too who made the journey ease and fun. There was no issues with Accommodation and food during Muktinath Yatra. Also, we could stop the vehicle in between for site seeing and taking pictures without any restrictions. Overall my Dad and I were completely satisfied and happy :) Read more

Comfortable and well organized trip to Mukthinath

Traveled to Muktinath in November 2018 with parents and aunt. The trip (3D/2N) was organized by Lumle Holidays. Nipendra, the Operations Manager accompanied us personally to Mukthinath Mandir. We were received at Kathmandu airport and took different modes of transportation during our trip. The stay, travel and other arrangements were taken care perfectly and never even once there was a hiccup. Nipendra went above and beyond and helped us with everything. Right from the detailed mail for my initial inquiry, to the constant follow up messages till we reached our home (in Chennai), Nipendra made sure we were more than happy to choose Lumle Holidays. I was a bit nervous about the safety and health of my parents since it was cold (-4 degrees) and the travel might be tiresome. The itinerary along with Nipendra's guidance made sure we had a nice time throughout the trip. Do not think twice before booking with Lumle. Make sure you discuss all the plans and choose the one which is preferable. You will definitely get good guidance from Lumle Holidays. Read more

Muktinath Temple Tour is a famous spiritual yatra for both Hindus and Buddhist. Yearly, many devotees from inside the country and from India visit Muktinath Temple for the sake of getting salvation. Some say that bad works of people get purified by the holy spirit of Lord Muktinath, some say just a visit to the temple will help achieve nirvana, and some say building a small home of stones around Muktinath Temple means reserving a place in heaven. Besides these aspects, Muktinath village also offers the wonderful landscape of desert hills and the towering white snow-capped Annapurna Massif. Dramatic changes on the journey from greenery hills to the drylands and experience the lifestyle of the villagers from sub-tropical to Himalayan laps is the remarkable opportunity of this pilgrimage tour.

Why people visit Muktinath Temple?

Muktinath Temple holds the significant place among Hindus as well as Buddhist. Hindus worship the holy mandir as  "Mukti Kshetra" means "place of getting liberation". Likewise, Buddhist worship the temple as "Chumig Gyatsa" means "hundred waters". As per the Hinduism, lord god, Vishnu incarnated in the form of Shaligram (fossils) here due to the curse of Brinda (wife of Jalandhar). Therefore, Shaligrams found here is worshipped as Vishnu god and requires to establish the holy chapel in every Hindus home.

After taking a holy bath under 108 water springs (located in the backyard) and two holy Kunda (ponds located in the front of the temple), devotees rinses their past sins and achieve the salvation from birth and re-birth of the lifecycle. Afterwards, the Char Dham Yatra get completed. This is the main reason why people visit Muktinath Temple.

Likewise, the forehead of the Sati (first wife of god Shiva) was fallen in this place when Shiva was wandering with the corpse of Sati Devi. So, the place is also worshipped as one of the 51 Shakti Peeth and considered to be 106th among the available 108 Divya Desam (premium temples).

Muktinath Temple  is a significant pilgrimage place in Nepal's Mustang province. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, one of the principal Hindu deities, this temple stands as a significant sacred location in Hinduism. It is also significant to Buddhists, who believe it is one of the 24 Tantric sites in Tibetan Buddhism.

The temple complex is a stunning blend of Hindu and Buddhist cultures. The main temple is a pagoda-style structure with a golden roof and a large prayer wheel. It also houses a shrine for Lord Shiva and a Garuda statue. The temple's unique fusion of Hindu and Buddhist elements, along with its stunning architecture and natural beauty, attracts spiritual seekers and tourists.

The 108 water spouts found outside the Muktinath Temple are one of the most intriguing parts of the temple. Believers consider the water from these spouts sacred, as they believe it resembles the 108 heads of Lord Brahma, the Hindu deity. The monastery contains numerous prayer wheels, murals, and statues that are religiously significant to Buddhists.

Overview of Muktinath Tour

Muktinath Tour Package combines all the opportunities to visit Nepal's most important pilgrimage sites. Muktinath temple is the religious epicentre of salvation and liberation in the Jomsom district. It is well-regarded for its marvellous pilgrimage needs, accompanied by the holy epics of Hinduism and Buddhism. Our Muktinath Package tour is designed in a purely spiritual blend of seeing various places in Kathmandu and Pokhara along with the impressive Muktinath itself.

Located 48 km northeast of Jomsom, the Muktinath temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is situated at an altitude of 3,749 meters. It offers a breathtaking view of the beauty of the Trans-Himalayas in the Jomsom district. Muktinath temple is a pagoda-shaped temple surrounded by 108 water shoots and two sacred ponds. Although religious faith is the main reason pilgrims visit Muktinath temple, it is also known for its diverse geographical features and excellent settlement, which offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas.

A bath in the icy sacred pond of Muktinath is said to erase and release all sins. It is believed that looking at Muktinath brings happiness to life and salvation to the soul to break the cycle of birth and rebirth. Many people attend Nepalese festivals, such as Janai Purnima, on certain days and Tithi to pay homage to Lord Muktinath. However, devotees visit the Muktinath temple and worship there throughout the year. The main attraction of the Muktinath trip is the Muktinath temple. At Mustang, where the Muktinath temple is located, lies the Kaligandaki River. The Amniote fossils, Shaligrams, found in the river are said to be the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

About 100 m south of the Muktinath temple, the Jwaladevi temple is another attraction that appeals to both Hindus and Buddhists. The goddess of the eternal flame, representing the primordial source of life, is another attraction at Muktinath. Several gompas in the area provide an insight into the Buddhist way of life and culture.

First and foremost, the temple is a centre of fundamental spiritual and religious values. But the atmosphere and surroundings of the Muktinath temple are also relaxing, and the flight to Jomsom is adventurous. The beauty of Pokhara valley and its surrounding area is also indescribable. Strolling around the lake and visiting the various temples and caves of Pokhara will genuinely amaze you and give you a complete pilgrimage.

The Muktinath tour package includes some of the most important pilgrimage sites in Kathmandu, such as Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Swayambhunath Temple. Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindu devotees and is dedicated to Lord Shiva, while Boudhanath Stupa and Swayambhunath Temple are dedicated to Buddha. You can visit the Manakamana Temple, located on the road from Kathmandu to Pokhara. The Manakamana Temple is a wish-granting temple where you ask the goddess for something with a pure soul. The cable car ride over the Trishuli River is also fantastic.

Pokhara is also the main tourist capital of Nepal and offers beautiful Himalayan views, spirituality, pilgrimages, and adventure. Pokhara has several adventure activities such as paragliding, zip-lining, boat rides, hot air ballooning, trekking, mountain biking, etc. If you wish, you can do them in addition to a pilgrimage tour.

Bindyabasini temple, Gupteshwar Mahadev cave, Tal Barahi temple, etc., are some of the significant pilgrimage attractions in Pokhara city. Guptehwar Mahadev cave is a beautiful cave system where a statue of Lord Shiva was discovered in medieval times. The Bindyabasini and Tal Barahi temples are dedicated to the goddess Bhagawati.

Muktinath tour package is one of the best trips that take you to Nepal's most significant pilgrimage sites and offers spirit-blowing natural beauty. On this tour, you will have a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara; on the way, you can visit Manakamana Temple. The next day you will fly from Pokhara to Jomsom, visiting the beautiful Muktinath Temple. After visiting holey Muktinath Temple, you will fly to Pokhara and visit Bindyabasini Temple, Gupteshwar Mahadev Cave, Tal Barahi Temple, Fewa Lake, and Davis Falls. After seeing these places, you will return to Kathmandu.

The attraction of the Muktinath trip

Mukti Kunda: Two sacred water ponds in front of the Muktinath temple known as "Laxmi Kunda." It is believed that jumping into this pond cleanses sins.

Mukti Dhara: The 108 bull-headed water spouts in the backyard of the Muktinath temple, where the holy water of the Gandaki River flows continuously. Taking a sacred bath under 108 Mukti Dhara is said to bring salvation.

Jwala Mai Temple: A sacred burning flame made of rocks inside the Dhola Mebar Gompa is only a five-minute walk away and is located in the southern region of the temple.

Mharme Lha Khang Gompa: in the northern part of the Muktinath temple, a monastery is dedicated to Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava.

Shaligran (Ammonite): Jurassic Park age fossils found at Kaligandaki River. This black stone is the symbol of Lord Vishnu and is kept in the prayer room of the house.

Essential Information

The best time to visit the Muktinath temple

Visitors can explore this area all year round, but it is a little colder in winter. The months of March, April, May, June, September, October, and November, in autumn and spring, are the preferred months to do the Yatra. During this time, the weather is so frightful that the snow-capped White Mountains with the clear blue sky touch the soul of the visitors. Thousands of pilgrims visit this Muktinath temple on festive days like Ramnahami, Janipurnima and offer "SHARATHA" to their deceased parents at the time of Dashain, i.e., rituals after the death of parents so that their soul enters BAIKUNTHA.

Special permits to visit Muktinath

The Muktinath region is located in Nepal's Annapurna Conservation Area and Trekking Zone. Therefore, two special permits are needed to reach Muktinath Temple, one from the Annapurna Conversation Area (ACAP) and one from the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS).

Travel insurance

We recommend that you take out insurance to cover your liability, accidents, and illness during the service. Depending on the type of activity, proof of assistance, hygiene, and search insurance may be required. An adequate insurance plan is mandatory for your stay in Nepal during the trip.

Personal safety

Wherever you are, you are responsible for your health and safety. In the city, beware of scammers and touts. Outside the airport or on the street, cabs are likely to charge more than average. Pickpockets are active in the cities and also in the mountains. Even if you are an experienced hiker or have good health and stamina, you are not familiar with the Nepalese mountains, so it is advisable to go with a guide and stay close to your group.

You should not take valuables such as gold or diamond necklaces, rings, or bracelets to the mountain, and you should also keep your backpack safe. Your passport, permits, phone, and cameras should always be with you. Keep the money you carry safely.

Do not get too close to the animals and take unnecessary photos during your trip. It is expected, and also for your safety that you travel responsibly and sensibly.

As long as you respect local norms and culture and are open-minded towards the local community, you will be treated well and respected, regardless of your gender, religion, and culture.

Muktinath and its upper valley are located in the Mustang region. The climate and landscape are similar to the Tibetan plateau, as it lies in the shadow of the Great Himalayas. Alternating hot and cold leads to the sacred shrine of Muktinath in the Mustang district. The Kali Gandaki River flows southward through the region from the north, forming deep gorges. The temperature in summer (March to August) ranges from a maximum of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 6 to 8 degrees Celsius. In early winter (September to November), the temperature ranges from 14 to 16 degrees Celsius and 0 to 4 degrees Celsius. In winter, the maximum temperature is around 6 degrees Celsius, and the minimum is 0 to -8 degrees Celsius.

Everyday warm clothing is recommended. A light warm jacket, a wool sweater, warm T-shirts, comfortable shoes, and cotton pants are sufficient for this excursion. It is recommended to bring a down jacket for the winter.

There are enough hotels and lodges near Muktinath in Jharkot and Ranipauwa. The hotels and motels are good. Some hotels have solar-heated hot showers and offer rooms with attached bathrooms. There is also a local restaurant that offers good food. You can find free Dharamsala for Hindu pilgrims.

Other facilities

There are STD/ISD telephone services in Ranipauwa and Jharkot. Health post and post office in Jharkot. A police station, ACAP tourist information centre, and drinking water supply station in Ranipauwa. Electricity is also available there.

Rules and regulations

Muktinath is in the Annapurna Conservation Area, for which an entrance fee is charged. Entry can be obtained in Kathmandu and Pokhara. The entrance fee to ACAP is Rs. 200 per person for Indians and other SAARC nationals and other foreigners in the US $ 20 per person. An additional fee of the same amount will be charged if permits are issued at a local checkpoint. Permits are valid for one entry, non-refundable and non-transferable, and children under ten years of age do not pay entrance fees.

You will walk another 20-30 minutes or rent a horse to get to Muktinath temple when you arrive at the jeep station.

What should I bring during the excursion to Muktinath?

You do not need any special items for this trip. You can carry your luggage depending on the month you travel. Jomsom is a windy place, so you need to have a windbreaker for Jomsom and Muktinath area in all the months you travel. Other things are considered normal.

How many days need to visit Muktinath temple?

Usually, the Muktinath tour can be done in at least four days, but we highly recommend planning at least six days to travel without rushing.

What is done in case of emergency?

In an emergency, a helicopter will be used from Kathmandu or Pokhara.

Do we need a special permit for the Muktinath trip?

Yes, the permit is required for the Muktinath excursion. All travellers need two permits. One is the Annapurna Conservation Area permit, and the other is the TIMS card. We will arrange it.

Unforgettable religious trip to Muktinath temple

Twenty-four people from Karnataka visited Muktinath, a sacred Vishnu temple, with a guide. The oxygen level is low in Muktinath. Therefore, the company made an excellent itinerary for the overnight stay in Jomsom and an early trip to Muktinath for worship. I found the best company who gave me good advice for the trek and altitude. It was a fantastic trip.

Highly recommended travel agency

Thank you so much for the incredible adventure. The Muktinath excursion was fascinating. We appreciated the guide, who gave us an exciting insight into Nepali culture. We always felt safe during the tour, and whenever we had a question, the guide was there for us. His communication skills were excellent, and communicating with him was a pleasure. We will always have unforgettable memories of you and Nepal.

Excursion to Jomson Muktinath

We had an eight-day Jomsom Muktinath tour. Mr Kishor and his team were great and admirable. We always felt safe and protected during the trip by Kishor. They gave us plenty of time to explore this beautiful sacred place. Kishor explained many things about nature and culture and other interesting topics about Nepal that we enjoyed. We can recommend this man and the company to other people. Thank you very much for providing a great experience.

Highly recommended visit

If you want to visit Muktinath temple with a travel agency, just go to the Kishor at Nepal Tour & Trekking Service P. Ltd.

My mother and I booked for six days from Kathmandu to Muktinath and back. From the beginning of our trip to the end, Kishor ensured we had not stuck anywhere.

He managed very well. The driver of the private car was very modest. My mother was delighted with the agency. All the best for your business.

Helicopter excursion to Muktinath

The helicopter tour to Muktinath was a great adventure. I was very interested in Tibetan culture and the Muktinath temple. Muktinath is located in the Mustang region, far from Kathmandu, and I don't have enough time for trekking, so I opted to do this helicopter tour. It was a short experience, about 3 hours from Kathmandu.

During the helicopter flight, I was able to see several incredible Himalayan mountain ranges, such as Annapurna, Fishtail, Nilgiri, and many other snow-capped peaks. When I entered the Muktinath temple, I had a different spiritual feeling and learned that the temple is feared by both Hindus and Buddhists. It was a memorable helicopter trip to Muktinath. All the arrangements from arrival to departure of our trip were appreciated. I would like to thank all the members of the Nepal Tour & Trekking Service P. Ltd. for making our trip memorable. Once you visit Nepal, you will know that the cost is worth it. Therefore, I can only recommend this company to Mr Kishor.

Wonderful trip to Muktinath

My wife and I visited this Muktinath temple in September 2018. The drive-by off-road vehicle was over bumpy roads, but the views more than made up for it. The villages along the route are picturesque. The temple itself was magnificent, and I found it a deeply spiritual experience to shower under the 108 spouts of icy water and enjoy the sunshine and vibrations of the temple.

The best religious trip to Muktinath

Thank you for organizing our wonderful trip to Muktinath and Pokhara in March 2018. We are both almost 60 years old, but your arrangements were perfect, and we had enjoyed our trip so much that we want to come back to Nepal and ask you to organize another vacation for us again
