I have now gone 3 years in a row and love the sights, sounds and smells! The rumble in your chest as various planes take off and go screaming by the crowds. The kids and adults alike awe-inspired looks! All the aircraft displays- it gives you so much to learn about and enjoy. There is also food and drinks throughout along with plenty of giveaways and information for local vendors. One of the years I was lucky enough to score VIP seating right in front of the Blue Angels- which is the whole reason you go! I am an armature photographer- but even with my Canon Rebel- I have great track and aim! My timing for shots are spot on! Which means even more air show fun after I get my sunburnt toosh home! Getting out of the parking lot is absolutely insane. The first year we pulled camp chairs out of the back and tailgated for an hour until it was less insanity. This past event we headed out early and watched the Blue Angels from the parking lot- which was still fantastic! So we got out with minimal wait time. Figure out an exit strategy ahead of time. I was told by a friend who works on base that Military and Family/friends get their own (almost private) day on Friday- so maybe next time we can go before the crowds! Pictures are from last 2 years

I got tased when I tried to run out onto the airfield. Not sure what their problem is, but apparently it was "illegal". Sounds like a croc of government lies to me. I do not recommend if trying to fly fighter planes
Went to the Jacksonville Air Show for the first time this year. So awesome that it's free (including parking). Only downsides are how long it takes to park (we got about a mile from the base by 10:30 and weren't parked until 12:45) and how long it takes to get food (tons of spots but they are very slow). The show itself was amazing! The military planes, especially the F-22 and The Blue Angels were amazing! Despite the crazy traffic, I'm so glad we went.
Great event. Why they open the gates an hour before the start of the show, however is beyond me. The show happens every year. It is free, I know, and thankful for that and the entire show, but clearly they need more time for parking. Even if you hit HWY 17 and 295 before 9:00, you will miss the opening events of the show.

Naval aviator takes the reins at NAS Jacksonville
A New York native and naval aviator is the new commander of Naval Air Station Jacksonville.
Executive Officer Capt. Greg deWindt took over command of the sprawling base on Roosevelt Boulevard after a ceremony Thursday. He replaces Capt. Marc Cantu.
The 3,400-acre NAS Jacksonville includes more than 110 tenant commands including 17 squadrons and an estimated 21,000 active duty and retired military staff, plus civilians.
The base is the largest installation in the Navy Region Southeast and third-largest in the Navy. It is home to the NAS Jax Air Show every two years, bringing the Blue Angels aerobatic corps and others.
Cantu, a native of Missouri City, Texas, began his Navy career in 2000 with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 46 in Mayport, as well as serving on a number of Navy ships in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

After graduating from the U.S. Naval War College, he served as a U.S. Strategic Command deputy division chief for nuclear strike planning. Following other duties, Cantu became NAS Jacksonville’s executive officer in early 2021, then its 51st commanding officer on Aug. 19, 2022.
Under his command, NAS Jax recently earned the 2024 Installation Excellence Award as the best large naval installation worldwide.
deWindt enlisted in the Navy in 1991 and was commissioned as an ensign in 1996. In 2011, he earned a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College. In 2017, he completed an executive master’s degree in business administration from Naval Post Graduate School.
After becoming a naval aviator in 1998, he received initial training in the SH-60B “Seahawk” and joined Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 47 in San Diego. Subsequent flying tours included executive officer of HSM-37 at Marine Corps Air Station, in Hawaii, and commanding officer of HSM-49 at NAS North Island.
He had multiple ship deployments as pilot, officer-in-charge, hangar deck division officer and air operations officer, as well as an assignment at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, supporting administrative rand combatant status review. He was deployed as officer-in-charge for COIC-Afghanistan and also served as inclusion and diversity officer for the head of Navy Personnel Command at Bureau of Naval Personnel in Tennessee.
He assumed duties as NAS Jacksonville executive officer in August 2022. Capt. Ryan Dexter will now handle that duty.
