Bringing Your Own Alcoholic Drinks

If you’re planning on bringing your own alcoholic drinks on a Carnival cruise, you’ll be happy to know that you can totally bring a few bottles of your favorite liquor to enjoy during your trip! Carnival allows guests to bring up to 12 cans or bottles of non-alcoholic beverages, such as water or soda, per person.

Additionally, you can bring one bottle of wine per adult (21 years or older) during embarkation. However, keep in mind that if you plan on enjoying your wine in the dining room or specialty restaurants, there is a corkage fee that applies. This fee covers the cost of opening and serving the wine for you.

Now, let’s move on to the next section and talk about beverage packages and upgrades.

Beverage Packages and Upgrades

I want to discuss the different beverage packages and upgrades available on a Carnival Cruise.

First, there is the Cheers! Beverage Program, which allows unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages throughout the cruise.

As for non-alcoholic beverages, there are no age restrictions, so everyone can enjoy a refreshing soda or a fruity mocktail.

Picture yourself sipping a fruity cocktail on a luxurious balcony suite or indulging in first-class amenities without paying a penny extra. Sounds enticing, right?

In this article, I will share with you the secrets to securing that coveted upgrade. From researching different cruise lines to building a relationship with your travel agent, these tried and true methods will increase your chances of sailing in the lap of luxury.

So, whether you’re a seasoned cruiser or a first-timer, get ready to discover the art of scoring a free upgrade and elevate your vacation to new heights.

  • Flexibility with cabin selection is key to maximizing the chances of a free upgrade.
  • Building a relationship with a travel agent can provide access to exclusive deals and increase the likelihood of securing a free upgrade.
  • Celebrating special occasions on a cruise can be enhanced with cruise line packages and personalized services.
  • Staying positive, expressing gratitude, and creating a joyful atmosphere can increase the chances of receiving a free upgrade.

Research Different Cruise Lines and Ships

You’ll want to explore various cruise lines and ships to uncover hidden gems that could potentially lead to an upgrade without costing you a dime.

Researching the benefits of different cruise lines is essential, as some offer exclusive perks like free room upgrades for loyal customers or special promotions for first-time cruisers.

Additionally, comparing prices across different cruise lines can help you identify any potential deals or discounts that may be available. Look for ships that have recently undergone renovations or are newer, as they may have more availability for upgrades.

Lastly, consider booking early or late as this can increase your chances of securing a free upgrade.

By being proactive in your research and comparing prices, you’ll be well on your way to enjoying a luxurious upgrade on your next cruise adventure.

Book Early or Late

When it comes to booking a cruise, timing is everything. As an experienced cruise enthusiast, I highly recommend booking your cruise well in advance to secure the best deals and availability. By planning ahead, you can take advantage of early bird promotions and have a wider selection of cabin options.

On the other hand, if you’re flexible with your travel dates and don’t mind the suspense, consider booking a last-minute cruise. This can often result in significant savings as cruise lines try to fill up remaining cabins.

Whether you prefer to plan ahead or enjoy spontaneous adventures, the key is to find the perfect timing for your cruise booking.

Book your cruise well in advance

To score a complimentary upgrade on your cruise, make sure to book well in advance. Planning ahead not only gives you a better chance of securing an upgrade but also allows you to research cruise prices and compare amenities. Here are three reasons why booking your cruise well in advance can increase your chances of getting a free upgrade:

Availability: By booking early, you have a wider range of cabin options available to choose from, increasing the likelihood of finding a higher category cabin that may be eligible for an upgrade.

Early bird promotions: Cruise lines often offer special promotions for early bookings, which can include complimentary upgrades as an incentive to secure your reservation early.

Preferred customer status: Booking in advance allows you to establish a relationship with the cruise line, making you a preferred customer. This may increase your chances of being considered for an upgrade.

Considering these benefits, it’s worth considering booking your cruise well in advance. However, if you prefer a different approach, you can also consider booking a last-minute cruise.

Consider booking a last-minute cruise

Consider booking a last-minute cruise for a spontaneous and exciting vacation experience that may surprise you with unexpected options. When you book a cruise at the last minute, you have the opportunity to take advantage of research cruise deals and find discounted fares.

Cruise lines often offer significant discounts on unsold cabins, hoping to fill them up before departure. By doing some research and comparing prices, you can find amazing deals that will save you money.

Not only will you potentially save on the cost of your cruise, but you may also have the chance to score a free upgrade. Many cruise lines offer upgrades to fill up higher-level cabins, especially if they haven’t been sold. So, if you’re looking for a great deal and the possibility of a free upgrade, consider booking a last-minute cruise.

Now, let’s explore another way to maximize your cruise experience – by joining loyalty programs.

Join Loyalty Programs

If you’re looking to get a free upgrade on a cruise, one of the key strategies is to join loyalty programs offered by cruise lines.

By signing up for these programs, you can take advantage of the perks and benefits that are specifically designed for loyal customers. These programs often offer exclusive discounts, priority embarkation and disembarkation, onboard credits, and even free cabin upgrades.

Sign up for loyalty programs offered by cruise lines

Joining loyalty programs offered by cruise lines will give you access to exclusive perks and increase your chances of getting a free upgrade on your next cruise. Here are some benefits of joining loyalty programs:

Priority boarding: As a loyal member, you’ll be able to skip the long lines and board the ship early, giving you more time to enjoy your vacation.

Cabin upgrades: Loyalty programs often offer complimentary cabin upgrades, allowing you to enjoy a higher category stateroom without paying extra.

Onboard credits: By joining a cruise line’s loyalty program, you can receive onboard credits that can be used towards spa treatments, specialty dining, or even excursions at various ports of call.

To maximize perks for loyal customers, it’s important to take advantage of the benefits offered by the loyalty program. This includes attending exclusive events, participating in onboard activities, and making use of any discounts or promotions available.

By doing so, you’ll enhance your cruise experience and make the most of your loyalty status.

Take advantage of perks and benefits for loyal customers

After signing up for loyalty programs offered by cruise lines, it’s time to reap the rewards of your loyalty.

By being a loyal customer, you can take advantage of exclusive discounts and enjoy VIP treatment on your cruises. These perks and benefits are designed to enhance your cruise experience and make you feel like a valued customer.

From priority boarding and disembarkation to special access to onboard amenities, loyal customers are treated to a level of service that sets them apart from other passengers.

Additionally, loyalty programs often offer special promotions and deals that can save you money on your cruise. So, make sure to take full advantage of these perks and benefits to get the most out of your loyalty. By doing so, you’ll set yourself up for a fantastic cruise experience.

Now, let’s explore another way to potentially secure a free upgrade at check-in.

Upgrade at Check-In

When you arrive at check-in, be sure to ask if there are any available upgrades for your cruise. This is one of the most effective upgrade strategies that can significantly improve your cruise experience.

Check-in is the perfect time to inquire about any available upgrades because the cruise line might have last-minute cancellations or unsold higher-category cabins. By being proactive and asking about upgrades, you increase your chances of securing a better room or additional amenities without having to pay extra.

It’s important to be polite and friendly when making this request, as the staff may be more inclined to help you. Another check-in tip is to arrive early, as this may give you a better chance of snagging an upgrade before other passengers. Once you’ve secured your upgrade, you can also take advantage of the additional perks and benefits that come with it.

Now, let’s move on to the next step, which is all about traveling during off-peak seasons.

Travel During Off-Peak Seasons

When it comes to getting a free upgrade on a cruise, there are several strategies to consider. In my previous subtopic, I discussed the possibility of upgrading at check-in. Now, let’s explore another effective method: traveling during off-peak seasons.

By choosing to cruise during less popular times, you increase your chances of receiving a complimentary upgrade. Not only will you enjoy a more relaxed and less crowded atmosphere on the ship, but you may also have the opportunity to explore budget-friendly destinations. This is a great way to save money while still experiencing all that a cruise has to offer.

To make the most of your off-peak travel, here are two travel hacks to keep in mind:

  • Research the best off-peak seasons for your desired destination.
  • Be flexible with your travel dates to take advantage of any last-minute deals.

Now, let’s move on to the next section where we will discuss the importance of being flexible with cabin selection.

Be Flexible with Cabin Selection

Flexibility with your cabin selection is key to maximizing your cruise experience. When it comes to getting a free upgrade on a cruise, it’s important to keep an eye on cabin availability and be open to different options.

The cruise line may offer upgrades to fill empty cabins, so being flexible can increase your chances of snagging one. Keep in mind that upgrades usually involve moving to a higher category cabin or a better location on the ship.

It’s also worth considering booking a guarantee cabin, which means you choose a category and the cruise line assigns your cabin. This can sometimes result in a free upgrade if higher category cabins become available.

By being open-minded and adaptable, you can increase your chances of enjoying a better cabin on your cruise.

Transitioning into the next section, let’s explore how building a relationship with your travel agent can further enhance your chances of getting a free upgrade.

Build a Relationship with Your Travel Agent

Establishing a strong bond with your travel agent can unlock a treasure trove of insider knowledge and personalized recommendations, allowing you to navigate the vast ocean of possibilities for an unforgettable cruise experience. Here are three key benefits of building trust with travel agents:

Exclusive Deals: Travel agents often have access to special promotions and discounts that are not available to the general public. By cultivating a relationship with your agent, they can keep you informed about these hidden gems, helping you save money and potentially secure a free upgrade.

Insider Tips: Travel agents possess extensive knowledge about various cruise lines, ships, and itineraries. They can provide valuable insights and recommendations based on your preferences, ensuring you choose the best cabin for your needs and desires.

Personalized Service: By developing a rapport with your travel agent, they can understand your travel style and preferences. This allows them to tailor their recommendations and assist you in creating a truly customized cruise experience.

By building a strong relationship with your travel agent, you can unlock numerous benefits and increase your chances of securing a free upgrade. Now, let’s move on to the next section and discover how you can celebrate special occasions on a cruise.

Celebrate Special Occasions

One way to make your cruise experience even more memorable is by celebrating special occasions onboard. Cruise lines offer a variety of celebration ideas and special occasion packages to help you create lasting memories. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, or honeymoon, there are options to suit every occasion. From private dining experiences to personalized decorations in your cabin, these packages can add an extra touch of luxury and excitement to your cruise. Additionally, some cruise lines even offer special event planning services, where they can help you organize a surprise party or arrange for a special performance. By taking advantage of these offerings, you can truly make your special occasion unforgettable. Moving forward, it’s important to stay positive and express gratitude throughout the process of getting a free upgrade on your cruise.

Stay Positive and Express Gratitude

Keep your spirits high and show appreciation for the little things that come your way during your cruise experience. Practicing gratitude and maintaining a positive mindset can go a long way in creating a memorable trip. Here are three ways to do it:

Take time each day to reflect on the good things that happened during your cruise. Whether it’s a beautiful sunset or a delicious meal, acknowledging these moments will help you stay positive.

Express gratitude towards the crew members. They work hard to ensure your comfort and enjoyment, so a simple thank you or a kind word can make their day and potentially lead to better service.

Engage in activities that uplift your mood. Participate in onboard entertainment, relax in the spa, or simply take a walk on the deck to enjoy the fresh sea breeze. These experiences will contribute to your overall happiness.

By practicing gratitude and maintaining a positive mindset, you’ll create a joyful atmosphere that may increase your chances of a free upgrade. So, keep checking for upgrade opportunities and let’s explore how to maximize your chances.

Keep Checking for Upgrade Opportunities

As a cruise enthusiast, I’ve learned that staying vigilant and continuously checking for upgrade opportunities is essential to increasing your chances of getting a free upgrade.

Even after you’ve boarded the ship, it’s important to remain open to last-minute changes or opportunities that may arise during your cruise journey.

By actively seeking out upgrade possibilities and being flexible with your plans, you can greatly improve your chances of enjoying a higher category cabin without spending a dime.

Stay vigilant and keep checking for any upgrade opportunities

To increase your chances of snagging an upgrade, monitor promotions and follow social media channels of cruise lines. Many cruise companies offer special deals, flash sales, or last-minute upgrade opportunities exclusively to their loyal followers. By staying vigilant and keeping an eye out for these offers, you can potentially secure a free upgrade to a higher cabin category or even a suite.

Additionally, be open to last-minute changes or opportunities that may arise during your cruise journey. Sometimes, the cruise line may offer upgrades at a discounted rate or even for free if there are available cabins. By remaining flexible and adaptable, you can maximize your chances of enjoying a luxurious upgrade on your cruise vacation.

Be open to last-minute changes or opportunities that may arise during your cruise journey

Embrace the unexpected and seize any sudden chances that come your way while sailing on your dream voyage. One of the best ways to secure a free upgrade on a cruise is by being open to last-minute changes or opportunities that may arise during your journey.

Keep an eye out for last-minute deals that cruise lines may offer to fill up empty staterooms or upgrade passengers. These deals can often be found closer to the departure date, so staying flexible with your travel plans can be advantageous.

Additionally, unexpected upgrades can occur if there are available higher-category cabins due to cancellations or no-shows. By being adaptable and open to these possibilities, you increase your chances of scoring a complimentary upgrade and enjoying a more luxurious experience on your cruise.

Can I get a free upgrade on any cruise line or ship?

Yes, you can potentially get a free upgrade on any cruise line or ship by leveraging loyalty programs and negotiating with cruise agents. These strategies can increase your chances of securing a better cabin or amenities.

How far in advance should I book my cruise to have a better chance at getting a free upgrade?

To have the best chance of securing a free upgrade on a cruise, it’s recommended to book as early as possible. By doing so, you increase your chances of availability and can potentially take advantage of any promotions or cabin upgrades offered.

Are loyalty programs available on all cruise lines and how do I join them?

Loyalty programs are available on many cruise lines and offer great benefits. To maximize perks, join the program and earn points by booking cruises, using onboard services, and referring friends. Enjoy exclusive discounts, priority boarding, and more.

Is it possible to upgrade my cabin at check-in even if I didn’t book early or late?

At check-in, it is possible to negotiate a cabin upgrade even if you didn’t book early or late. Pros of booking a last minute cruise include potential discounts, while tips for negotiating an upgrade include being polite and flexible with your requests.

Are there any specific off-peak seasons for each cruise line that offer higher chances of getting a free upgrade?

During off-peak seasons, certain cruise lines may offer higher chances of getting a free upgrade. To increase your odds, consider booking during these times and utilizing strategies such as joining loyalty programs and booking directly with the cruise line.

Can Working on a Cruise Ship Help You Get Free Upgrades?

Yes, applying to work on a cruise ship can definitely open opportunities for free upgrades. Many cruise lines offer perks for their employees, including the chance to enjoy a higher level of accommodation during their time off. So, if you’re considering a job at sea, keep this in mind.

Can Working on a Cruise Ship Help You Get a Free Upgrade?

Applying to work on a cruise ship may not guarantee a free upgrade, but it can certainly increase your chances. Working on a cruise ship allows you to build a relationship with the crew and management, making them more likely to consider you for a better cabin or position on future voyages.

In conclusion, getting a free upgrade on a cruise is not impossible, but it requires some strategic planning and a little bit of luck. Here are some tips to increase your chances:

A day in Nassau, Bahamas: What to do while your cruise is in port

High Angle View Of Cruise Ships Moored In Sea Against Blue Sky

Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .

The territory of the Bahamas includes 700 islands and 2,000 rocks and cays spread across 100,000 square miles of the North Atlantic Ocean. Technically, it's not part of the Caribbean region . It is, however, a warm-weather destination on the edge of the Caribbean and shares many of its cultural traditions, cuisine and music.

When it comes to oceangoing vacations, the Bahamas can accurately be described as the industry's leading destination, with the capital city of Nassau being cruising's number one port of call. In 2019, the Bahamas hosted 5.43 million cruise visitors, more than any other global cruise port, and it greeted nearly 1 million more travelers than Cozumel, Mexico, the next most-visited port. Indeed, the modern cruise industry's first itineraries in the 1970s focused on three- and four-day Bahamas sailings from Miami .

The archipelago's spectacular natural environment features brilliant blue skies, warm temperatures and exceptionally clear waters. But Nassau, located on 112-mile-long New Providence island, is also a metropolitan center full of modern amenities and impressive African, Caribbean and colonial cultural and historic sites.

Paradise Island, positioned immediately to Nassau's north, has large hotels and all-inclusive resorts that offer day packages for cruise visitors, providing access to premium golf (at the Baha Mar resort ), casino gaming (at Atlantis) as well as restaurants, shops and nightlife.

Not surprisingly, Nassau is a staple port of call for a wide variety of operators. Carnival Cruise Line , Disney Cruise Line , MSC Cruises , Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean all sail here, as does luxury line Regent Seven Seas Cruises, premium cruise operators Celebrity Cruises and Oceania Cruises and budget operator Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line. All of those lines will call at Nassau in 2021.

What we could do without

Nassau is on an island within a vast archipelago. Many products are necessarily imported and that means prices, including meals at restaurants, can be high. Nassau can also feel a bit "touristy" at times, as the Prince George Wharf cruise ship dock can host as many as five large cruise ships at once. On busy days, cruise travelers are ubiquitous around the downtown area.

Nassau basics

Nassau is extremely popular as a warm-weather getaway destination that's closer to the U.S. Atlantic Coast than most Caribbean basin countries. As a plus, while technically not located in the Caribbean, Nassau and the Bahamas offers the same splendid sunny skies, brilliant blue waters and amazing culture and traditions.

On the small island of New Providence, Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas archipelago. The port is normally a bustling affair, as disembarking guests walk from the pier to Bay Street, parallel to the water, and the downtown shopping area where you'll find tour guides and Jet Ski, beach and watersports excursion operators, taxis for hire, scooter rentals, craft and souvenir shops, and hair braiders.

Nassau's nearby Paradise Island district offers beaches, restaurants and shops as well as the Atlantis megaresort, which is among several properties offering day packages for cruisers in search of a daylong all-inclusive experience. The good news is that, with a little preparation, it will be easy to find the right Nassau activity to fit your personal vacation style.

Passengers who are booked on excursions arranged by the cruise line will find providers staged in areas leading from the dock. Private operators, including those who booked tours with guests separate from the cruise line, will be found beyond the first group.

Time zone: The Bahamas operates on Eastern Standard Time.

Language: English is the official language.

Currency: The Bahamian dollar is equivalent to the U.S. dollar. Both are widely accepted, and generally, it's not necessary to exchange money. If you want to exchange money, you can do so aboard your ship, although you can usually obtain a better rate at a local bank or ATM. Several banks are located on Parliament Street, a short walk from the cruise terminal. Numerous ATMs are also found around downtown.

How to get around

On foot: Many of Nassau's historic sites and the Bay Street retail district are within walking distance of the cruise ship pier and the downtown area. Bay Street is lined with shops, restaurants and bars, and cruisers so inclined can spend the day strolling the area. Just put on your sneakers, disembark your ship, take a few steps and start exploring. There are also ferries to nearby attractions and it's also possible to rent a car or motor scooter.

By taxi: Taxi operators are staged around the Prince George Wharf area. Taxis are not metered, so always negotiate the fare before entering the vehicle.

By bus: Nassau's public buses are known as jitneys and offer a thrifty and convenient alternative to car rentals or taxis. The jitneys cost around $1.25 per person and stop at popular spots, including Cable Beach (see below).

Top sights and shore excursions

Nassau is a surprisingly diverse port. Beach lovers and travelers who enjoy water sports, diving or snorkeling will find a wide variety of excursions and activities to suit their tastes. Nassau is also filled with historic sites and shopping opportunities. Yet visitors are missing out on genuine colonial-era history if they don't also spend time exploring the historic architecture and attractions located steps from the cruise pier. You can book excursions through your cruise line or independently. And, don't forget that the Chase travel portal offers excursions bookable with cash or Ultimate Rewards points.

Here are some favorite pastimes for cruisers visiting Nassau.

Historic sites

Nassau's history is closely tied to the Caribbean pirate era of the 17th and 18th centuries, when the town served as a pirate sanctuary until 1718 when British Governor Woodes Rogers expelled the buccaneers. Today's downtown district offers 20 square blocks featuring architecture and monuments dating to this compelling era, most within walking distance of the cruise pier.

As a result, visitors can take a DIY-approach to exploring Nassau with help from the Bahamas.com website. Or, book a cruise ship excursion highlighting historic forts, Bahamian cuisine, "land and sea" programs, private island experiences and even Junkanoo-style music and dancing.

Historic sites near Prince George Wharf include Parliament Square, which houses the Bahamas' House of Assembly, the Senate Building and Supreme Court in pink pastel colonial buildings. A statue of Queen Victoria erected in the early 1900s also stands at the site.

The Queen's Staircase or "66 Steps" are framed by lush gardens and link downtown Nassau with Fort Fincastle. Ascend to the top of the staircase to reach Fort Fincastle, constructed in the late 1700s atop Bennett's Hill. Sweeping views from the fort's bluffs encompass downtown Nassau, the harbor and the cruise ship dock.

The Queen's Staircase, Nassau, Bahamas

Bahamian culture was also shaped by Africans who arrived in the territory as slaves from Sierra Leone and other West African nations. Other Black people traveled to the Bahamas directly from Africa, Bermuda and Haiti, some enslaved by ex-British loyalists from Georgia and South Carolina, and others as ex-soldiers who won their freedom fighting for the British during the American Revolutionary War.

Several historic sites around Nassau recognize this influence, including Adelaide, Fox Hill and Gambier. These three historic villages were settled by liberated Africans in the 1800s and still maintain their African heritage. Cultural and sightseeing tours to these villages can be arranged. Nassau's Pompey Museum features a permanent exhibit on the African experience in the Bahamas.

Sun and fun: Water sports

Nassau offers a multitude of activities focused around the archipelago's beautiful blue waters and magnificent natural environment. Just about every conceivable water sport is available to Nassau visitors via cruise ship excursion. This includes sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing and encounters with sea lions, dolphins, stingrays and pigs (yes, swimming pigs ).

Other cruise ship tours feature glass-bottom and jet boat excursions, catamaran sailings paired with reef snorkeling, deep-sea fishing and exclusive beach days with private cabanas.

While the luxurious Baha Mar resort on Nassau's Cable Beach does not offer day passes, savvy and sybaritic cruisers will reserve a room for the day for access to the property's premium facilities and amenities, including a private beach and beach club, motorized and nonmotorized watersports, a series of pools with shaded lounge chairs, cabanas and waterfall features. You can use 20,000 World of Hyatt points to book a day at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar . Or, spend 10,000 points plus $140. You can start earning points for your next vacation with the World of Hyatt Credit Card.

The British Colonial Hilton Nassau is another Nassau resort where you can use points. Spend 50,000 Hilton Honors points for a night's stay (which you'd use as a day room). You can earn points with the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card or Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card. Both cards offer hefty welcome bonuses, 130,000 and 150,000 points, respectively, after you meet the required spend of $2,000 within the first three months of account opening for the Surpass and $4,000 in the first three months of account opening for the Aspire. The information for the Hilton Aspire Amex card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

You can also look for a resort offering day passes .

ResortPass is currently selling day passes to the SLS Baha Mar for $100 per adult and $50 per child or $400 per Bungalow Pool Cabana or Baha Bay Beach Club Cabana that accommodates up to four people. You can also book day passes at the British Colonial Hilton Nassau for $100 per adult and $50 per child or $325 for a beach cabana accommodating up to four people.

Nassau's nearby private islands offer a premium beach experience within a 15- to 20-minute ferry ride. Most cruise lines offer shore excursions to Blue Lagoon Island, but travelers can also book a visit through a travel advisor or on their own online. The excursion tends to be popular and does sell out, so be sure to reserve early in your voyage or before you leave home.

At Blue Lagoon, cruisers can swim in a calm lagoon, enjoy kayaking, water-biking or snorkeling tours, play with water toys like floats and inner tubes, or simply relax in a beach hammock under coconut palms. Blue Lagoon offers a gift shop, changing rooms, restrooms and shower facilities.

Blue Lagoon Island Bahamas

Balmoral Island, Pearl Island and Sandy Toes also offer private-island experiences near Nassau.

Cruise travelers whose ships arrive early in Nassau may want to take the approximately one-hour drive to Stuart's Cove, where they can experience snorkeling, diving and swimming with sharks.

Best beaches in Nassau

There's no shortage of great beaches in and around Nassau. In addition to the nearby private-island beach experiences, there are several local beaches within walking or short driving distance.

Junkanoo Beach

Junkanoo Beach is approximately a 15-minute walk from the cruise port, offering travelers an inexpensive and convenient way to enjoy some sun and fun. You can normally see your cruise ship from the nearby beach, and vendors selling buckets of ice-cold Kalik and Sands beer (the local favorites) can be found lining the beach. Don't forget to bring your towel; chairs are available for rent chairs from vendors. Some will package a bucket of beer with chairs and an umbrella.

Cabbage Beach

Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island is a 20-minute walk or short taxi ride away from Nassau just over the bridge that spans the islands. While beautiful. the beach's waters can be rough at times and the beach itself does not offer many amenities. However, locals parade up and down the beach offering chairs for rent and beverages sale. A long walk down the beach will bring visitors to Atlantis, where they can pose for their prerequisite Instagram shot.

Cable Beach

Cable Beach Nassau, Bahamas

Cable Beach is about a 20-minute drive from Prince George's Wharf and is accessible via taxi. A cheaper alternative is the No. 10 bus, which charges around $1.25 per person. The 2.5-mile-long beach is often described as Nassau's best, but it's one of hundreds across the Bahamas distinguished by bleach-white sands and remarkably clear blue waters. Cable Beach is home to several top Nassau resorts and offers a full array of watersports activities.

Other top Nassau beaches

Montague Beach is situated east of the Paradise Island Bridge and is home to a historic fort constructed in the 18th century. The beach promenade is a popular hangout on weekends and public holidays, with local vendors offering delicious local food and drinks. The beach is also a preferred spot for wading and picnicking.

Delaporte Beach is west of Cable Beach near the former plantation village of Delaporte. East of Nassau lies Saunders Beach, also popular with visitors and locals, and known for its beautiful twilight views.

The beach at Goodman's Bay features recreational facilities for children and is popular among joggers and exercise enthusiasts. Sandyport Beach is connected by a small bridge to the Venice-like resort Sandyport development near Cable Beach.

Where to eat and drink

True to its Caribbean traditions, the Bahamas' indigenous cuisine combines flavorful spices with fresh tropical fruit and seafood. Whether found at a lively outdoor market or gourmet restaurant, Bahamian gastronomy is filled with island flavor.

Local favorites

Conch fritters: A Bahamian delicacy (and fortunately bountiful in local waters), the queen conch forms the basis of the territory's undisputed favorite dish. Conch fritters are bite-sized flakes of conch meat fried in batter seasoned with goat pepper, hot sauce and sea salt, plus common Bahamian vegetables.

Conch fritters Bahamas

Peas and rice: Referred to locally as "peas n' rice," this traditional Caribbean dish, prepared in local Bahamian fashion, features deep brown pigeon peas and white long-grain rice seasoned with tomatoes, onions, thyme, tomato paste, goat pepper and salted pork or bacon. The ingredients combine to provide the rice its signature brown coloring.

Johnny cake: Made of flour, milk, butter, sugar and baking powder, this breakfast food is more bread than cake, with a texture that combines dense bread with a slightly sweet cake. As with other staple dishes, Johnny cakes are found around the Caribbean, with the Bahamas version traditionally baked in a large round pan until lightly browned then sliced and served in wedges.

There are a handful of Nassau food experiences visitors should definitely target during their day in port, from the casual to the exclusive. They include:

Potter's Cay conch shacks

The Potter's Cay conch shacks can be found beneath the high-arching bridge that connects Nassau to Paradise Island. Adjacent to lively fruit markets, the brightly colored conch shacks feature nearly 40 chefs in different shacks cooking fresh conch dishes in myriad ways.

Besides being a great place to sample an authentic Bahamian lunch featuring the freshest conch fritters and local dishes, the Potter's Cay shacks are a great place to interact with locals, other visitors and the chefs themselves as they chat about the day's catch and argue over a game of dominoes.

Check first with a local or with a frequent Bahamas visitor (like a travel advisor) to determine which stall is the best for the day. With 25 years in the same location, McKenzie, a former conch fisherman turned restaurateur, is a local celebrity among Potter Cay purveyors, with a shack positioned as the first on the bridge's west end.

Graycliff Hotel and Restaurant

About a 15-minute walk or a brief taxi ride from the cruise port, Graycliff Hotel is in a historic mansion whose extensive grounds were once an 18th-century pirate's headquarters. A visitor can spend an entire day exploring the property, which features one of the world's largest private collections, chocolate-making and cigar-rolling facilities, art galleries and craft shops.

The highlight, however, may be the hotel's five-star restaurant, an elegant eatery with a menu combining continental and Bahamian traditions. The sumptuous restaurant features four air-conditioned dining rooms and a garden dining area, with each room decorated to reflect the Graycliff's origins as a private home.

In keeping with its atmosphere, the dress code is strictly enforced at Graycliff Restaurant with required lunch attire described as "elegant casual."

Where to shop

When you're shopping in the Bahamas, look for souvenirs like:

  • Original paintings, carvings and craftwork
  • Handmade garments in bright tropical colors
  • Wood carvings

Nassau's Bay Street retail district is steps of the cruise ship dock, but there are a few hidden shopping spots just a short taxi ride away.

Virtually adjacent to the cruise port is Festival Place, an outdoor bazaar featuring 45 vendors selling crafts, food and drinks. It's ideal for folks seeking last-minute souvenirs and gifts just before they depart aboard their ship and for arriving passengers in search of shopping close to the port.

Once an open-air affair, Nassau's long-running Straw Market is located in the center of the retail action on Bay Street and also offers Bahamian gifts, crafts and souvenirs. Bay Street also features a proliferation of high-end, designer stores selling luxury goods including apparel, jewelry, cosmetics and fragrances.

Straw Market, Nassau, Bahamas

It's also possible to take a taxi to reach Nassau's best-kept secrets when it comes to hand-crafted, original art and crafts, plus apparel and home goods:

Bahama Hand Prints

Established in 1966 by artists Helen Astarita and Berta Sands, Bahama Hand Prints (near the corner of Ernest Street and Okra Hill) offers "bold and brilliant" designs across a wide range of garments, accessories and home furnishings. Many of the colorful and contemporary objects still use the duo's original designs.

Alannah and David van Onselen, who purchased the company in 2018, have retained Helen and Berta's signature style and the shop's collection of vintage designs, while new print designs have been added to the catalog. All products are developed in-house, crafted by the shop's talented sewing team and visitors are encouraged to drop in at the factory, speak with the staff and watch the printers at work.

Craft Cottage Bahamas

Craft Cottage Bahamas is the premier showcase for locally made home décor, glassware, jewelry, soaps, clothing and artwork in Nassau. On the grounds of the Doongalik Studios & Art Gallery in Eastern Nassau, the charming shop and gallery features a diverse and eclectic array of Bahamian-inspired items and emphasizes traditional crafting techniques.

The facility is housed in a traditional Bahamian-style home that shares the grounds with a variety of local Bahamian artists who also use the property to work on their own art and products. The shop offers an extensive and impressive array of handcrafted jewelry, painted glass, straw bags and accessories including homemade soaps and bath products.

Bottom line

While Nassau sometimes gets a bad rap as a "touristy" port of call and is often inundated by cruise travelers, the Bahamas' capital city is actually a diverse port with an impressive array of historic attractions, a variety of beach experiences, distinctive cuisine and extensive shopping opportunities. Nassau's Caribbean flavor, warm temperatures and beautiful natural environment have made the port a staple on cruise itineraries.

We did.  Several years ago.  We went to the casino.  Great drink service and we won in the casino.

Eastern flygirl

Not sure if it is still operational, but you can take a local bus #10 to the resort. It is not a bad trip and a lot cheaper than a cab. The casino is beautiful and did pay well.

Still operating.

$1.25 to the resort, last we used it.

A nice local experience, depending on your comfort level given State Department warnings. Bus owners have a strong vested interest in keeping out the bad guys.

We’re flying down Saturday and will cab it from point to point.

You   can hop the #10 jitney (bus) at the Bay St & Frederick St stop and just say Baha Mar. $1.25 each way, exact change appreciated, buses will stop at the bus stop for you r return…

Great casino and restaurants. A MUST is a daiquiri from the Daq Shack, located by the vendor shops on the walk to the casino…

Top 12 Day-Passes in Nassau cruise port Review (2023)

Photo by IQCruising of British Colonial Hotel close to Nassau cruise port

The best beach Day-Passes for cruise passengers to enjoy a beach break in the port of Nassau: top Hotels and All-Inclusive Resorts.

By: Editor-in-Chief Update: June 2, 2023

Junkanoo and Cabbage beaches are the two main public beaches close to the Nassau cruise port. But for a more secluded beach experience, one dozen hotels and resorts offer a beach day-pass to cruise passengers.

Contents - A to Z

  • Atlantis Resort
  • Baha Bay Waterpark at Baha Mar
  • Bob Marley Resort
  • Breezes Resort and Spa
  • British Colonial Hilton
  • Clifton National Park
  • Graycliff Hotel
  • Margaritaville Beach Resort
  • Melia Hotel
  • Riu Palace Hotel
  • Sandals Royal Bahamian
  • Warwick Hotel

Passengers on a cruise to Nassau have always had the opportunity to book a day pass to several hotels, resorts, and waterparks in the most populous and touristic island of the Bahamas.

The Atlantis Resort is one of the most famous. But in the last years Margaritaville and Baha Mar - two Caribbean icons - have opened resorts close to Nassau and offer day passes to passengers visiting the cruise port for the day.

While two resorts opened in Nassau, the British Colonial Hilton has closed its door. However, the beach of the British Colonial is still available to be booked as day pass, and at $25.30 per adult is the most affordable you can get on a cruise to Nassau.

So, if you prefer a more exclusive beach break, instead of heading to Junkanoo Beach or Cabbage Beach, cruise passengers can book online a Nassau day pass.

On this page, you can read the reviews of the top 12 Day-Passes listed alphabetically with details such as location, inclusions, opening hours, cost of getting there by taxi, and day-pass price.

Atlantis offers many different packages that cover all of the resort's attractions. Most of these packages are really considered tours or excursions but there is also the possibility of booking a Beach Day Pass exclusively for the beach in Paradise Island. It should be noted that this pass does NOT give you access to Atlantis swimming pools, water slides, pool deck, or pool lounge chairs. However, you may take a self-guided tour through the 'ancient ruins of Atlantis' in The Dig.

2. Baha Bay Waterpark at Baha Mar

The 5 Closest Beaches to the Nassau Cruise Port (Free to Visit)

Picture a cruise to The Bahamas and one of the first images that will come to mind is a white sand beach with electric blue water. But if you’re visiting Nassau , which is one of the most visited cruise ports in the world, you might be surprised that you don’t see any beaches at all from the pier.

That’s because cruise ships dock in a spot that’s heavily developed with a waterfront that’s been built for commerce instead of a beach day.

Nevertheless, Nassau does sit on an island, and if you’re visiting on a cruise, then there are some beaches relatively close by. Just know that they can involve walking, a taxi ride, or a ferry to access. Still, if you want to visit a beach, these are your closest options…

Junkanoo Beach (0.6 Miles)

Junkanoo Beach sign in Nassau

About two-thirds of a mile from the cruise ship (roughly a 15-minute walk) sits the closest beach to the cruise ports — Junkanoo. All you have to do to get there is hang a right outside of the port area and follow Bay Street until you pass the Margaritaville Report.

We consider Junkanoo Beach to be two parts . The first part you reach will be much more crowded with restaurants, bars, loungers, and chairs that you can rent. If you want to have some beers and have a good time, this is the spot for you.

Walk farther down the beach and you’ll notice that all that goes away and it’s largely an empty beach (except for other cruise passengers), some shady trees and a much calmer vibe.

One cool feature is that from here you can look back and see the cruise ships, and they make a great backdrop for a photo.

Esplanade Beach (1 Miles)

Esplanade Beach, Nassau

Walk about five more minutes down the path from Junkanoo and you’re at Esplanade Beach. This stretch of sand curves around, almost facing directly back at the cruise ships. During our visits here we’ve noticed it to be quieter, larger, and with hardly many people at all.

Note that there aren’t public facilities here like restrooms. There are some spots to eat and grab a drink, but they are far fewer than what’s found at nearby Junkanoo Beach.

As well, there are some spots with loungers and/or umbrellas that are available to rent. So if you’re wanting a beach that has some simple offerings but far fewer people… all while being within a healthy walk of the cruise ship, this may be ideal.

We will say that this beach is right near the Nassau Container Port, which means it doesn’t have the most beautiful view, although you can see the cruise ships in the distance.

Cabbage Beach (1.5 Miles)

Cabbage Beach looking east in Nassau

If you want the most popular beach (when it comes to the amount of cruise passengers who visit), then head to Cabbage Beach. The beach is golden sand with gorgeous blue water, and lots of activity with everything from tourists to vendors.

You’ll find Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island. This is perhaps better known as the island where the bustling Atlantis Resort sits. To get there you can either grab a taxi at the stand in the cruise port area (the easy way) or take a $7 ferry across the channel and then walk over to the beach (the more fun way, though not the easiest).

Once you arrive you’ll find a busy beach that stretches for seemingly forever. Anything you could want to rent is available here as well. Want smaller crowds? Walk down the beach and you’ll find a spot that’s all your own.

Saunders Beach (2.5 Miles)

If you want a local’s beach that’s likely to have only a few visitors to relax and spend the day, Saunders Beach will fit the bill.

At about two miles from the cruise port, we think this would be too far of a distance to walk for most people. Instead, you’ll want to catch a cab at the cruise port for a quick ride over to the spot.

Saunders Beach features a number of coves stretching over a half-mile distance so there will always be plenty of space. There aren’t a lot of bars/restaurants here but there is a kid’s playground, public restrooms at the west end of the beach, and a convenience store across the road where you can grab something to drink or a snack.

Goodman’s Bay (3.5 Miles)

Ok, if you’re thinking of a classic Bahamian beach, this might be what you have in mind. It’s a sweeping and wide beach that circles the bay for more than a mile. In fact, some of the biggest and nicest hotels on the island (including the massive Baha Mar resort) call this spot home.

In between these hotels is Goodman’s Bay Park, offering easy public access to the beach and the water. And while the beach might get more crowded in front of the resorts, this spot should have relatively fewer people.

Note that unless staying at a resort, there aren’t many facilities for you here for things like chairs or umbrellas. There are some trees at the edge of the beach if you want a little shade. As well, it will take about a 15-minute taxi ride to get here from the cruise port.

17 Best Things to Do in Nassau Bahamas Cruise Port

' src=

Nassau is one of the most popular Caribbean cruise ports, but it does not have the best reputation. In fact, many people choose to stay on their ship instead of visiting the port. This is a huge mistake because there are a ton of great things to do in Nassau Bahamas!

You can relax at the beach, explore the jungle, learn about Bahamian culture, and so much more. There’s an activity for everyone to enjoy in port at Nassau.

I’ve visited Nassau more times than I can count. Most recently, I visited in late 2023 on my family’s annual Thanksgiving cruise.

Some of my favorite memories in Nassau have been swimming with dolphins at Atlantis, taking a boat trip, and playing at a resort waterpark. This year, we opted for an adults-only all-inclusive which was the perfect way to relax.

Keep reading to learn what to do in Nassau during your port day.

The Top Things To Do in Nassau Bahamas

A Boat on the Turquoise Water

1. Half Day Boat Charter

🕒 Duration : 4 Hours | ✔️ Book Here

One of my favorite things to do when I only have one day to explore a new destination is a private combo tour. The benefit of private is that you can start and end on your own timeline, and adjust the day to your interests.

The benefit to a combo tour is you can see the highlights off a destination in a short amount of time. You can tailor this charter to your own interests, but some things to do are swimming with pigs, snorkeling, beach time, and jet skiing.

The boat charter also includes snacks, water, and rum punch.

I have not done this tour personally, because I hadn’t heard about it prior to planning my recent trip. However, when I return this is the #1 thing I plan to do.

  • Fit a ton of activities into a short amount of time
  • Tailor the day to your interests
  • Choose between the most popular activities in Nassau such as snorkeling with turtles, swimming with pigs, watersports, and beach time
  • Move at your own pace with the private charter

Considerations:

  • More expensive than other tours since it is a private charter
  • Some activities, such as swimming with pigs, have a small additional fee

2. Paradise Island Resort Day Pass

One of the most common things people do during a port day in Nassau is getting a day pass for one of the popular resorts on the island.

Around 15 minutes from the Nassau cruise port is a resort island called Paradise Island. It’s home to many resorts and the best beaches on the island.

Many of these popular resorts offer a day pass. The day passes grant you access to the resort’s amenities for a per-person fee that is lower than the nightly rate.

Three Top Resort Day Passes:

Baha Mar – Baha Bay Waterpark

Baha Mar is my top recommendation for a day pass in Nassau. It’s a great combination between the following two on this list. It has a great waterpark and also upscale areas for adults to relax.

The day pass includes entrance to the Baha Bay waterpark which has 24 waterslides, 2 water coasters, a surf simulator, a lazy river, and a giant wave pool. With so many attractions, this waterpark is great to keep kids or active adults busy for the full day.

Baha Bay also has a giant infinity pool, 15 acres of beachfront at Cable beach, and private cabanas for rent if you prefer to kick back in a lounge chair with a good book.

Atlantis Aquaventure

If your top priority for a day pass is a great waterpark, Atlantis is a great choice. The waterpark at Atlantis is much larger than the one at Baha Bay. There are dozens of waterslides, 11+ pools, a mile long lazy river, and many more attractions.

However, Aquaventure is much more expensive than Baha Bay, so it may not be worth the upcharge if you don’t value the extra attraction options.

Riu Palace All Inclusive

If you’re an adults-only group and value relaxation over water parks, the Riu Palace is the right choice. This adults-only all-inclusive has two large pools overlooking the ocean and sandy beachfront access to Cabbage beach.

Since it’s an all-inclusive resort, you can drink and eat as much as you want during your visit.

This is what I did on my most recent visit and had a great time. It’s less flashy than the above waterparks, but much more relaxing. Plus, I was obsessed with the views from the infinity pool (pictured above).

White and Gray Bird on the Bag of Brown and Black Pig Swimming on the Beach during Daytime

3. Swimming with Pigs

🕒 Duration : 4 hours | ✔️ Book Here

Whenever I hear about swimming with pigs , I think about Fyre fest. Anyone else? For those that are less chronically online, Fyre fest was a failed music festival that was supposed to be in the Bahamas. One of the activities they heavily promoted was swimming with pigs.

Regardless, swimming with pigs is one of the most popular and iconic things to do in the Bahamas. It’s honestly one big photo op, but an opportunity you won’t find many places in the world.

The full excursion is a beach day on Rose Island, which as crystal clear water and white sand beaches. The actual pig portion of the tour is 30 minutes, which is honestly plenty of time.

You’ll have the opportunity to pet, feed, and snap some photos with the pigs.

  • Unique opportunity to swim with cute pigs
  • Great Instagram photo opportunity
  • Includes a full day of beach time to relax in the Bahamian sun
  • Most of the day is spent on the beach versus with the pigs
  • Potential for pig poo or dirtiness in water

Person Chopping Fruit

4. Rum and Food Tour

🕒 Duration : 3 hours | ✔️ Book Here

I love taking a local food tour every chance I get. It’s a great way to learn about local culture and try some new foods.

This rum and food tour is one of the highest rated things to do in Nassau. Its equal parts foodie and boozy which is perfect for vacation!

This food tour has multiple stops including:

  • Smugglers Beer Garden for rum samples
  • Rum infused chocolate at a local choclatier
  • Conch fritters
  • John Watling’s Distillery
  • Eat and drink the most popular Bahamian foods and drinks
  • Includes rum mixology lesson
  • Small group of maximum 10 people for an intimate experience
  • More drink than food stops so you may be a bit hungry after the tour

view of the atlantis resort in bahamas from the beach

5. Island Sightseeing Tour

🕒 Duration : 2.5 hours | ✔️ Book Here

If it’s your first time visiting Nassau, an island sightseeing tour is a great way to see the island and learn about its history.

This tour includes transportation around the island with commentary from the local guide about the sights and history. Some of the places you’ll visit are the Queen Victoria staircase, a rum cake factory, Atlantis resort, the Graycliff Chocolate Factory and John Watling’s Distillery.

If you’re tempted to stay on the ship in Nassau, I encourage you to at least get off to take this tour to see the most popular parts of the island.

  • Great overview of Nassau
  • Stops at historic sites and popular tourist areas
  • Educational and informative
  • The stops are quick, so you may not have enough time to do everything at each stop that you would be able to do if you visited them individually

Costa Rica ATV tour

6. ATV Tour

🕒 Duration : | ✔️ Book Here

If the above sightseeing tour interested you and you enjoy adventure, this is the perfect Nassau excursion for you.

This ATV tour includes stops around the island such as Fort Charlotte, the Caves of New Providence, and the Queen’s staircase. It ends at the beach for relaxation time and an included lunch.

  • Explore the island and see beyond the cruise port
  • Spend time at the beach with included lunch
  • ATVs may not be suitable for young kids
  • It is difficult to hear on the ATVs, so expect less commentary than a bus sightseeing tour

nassau cruise port to baha mar

7. Pearl Island Relaxation

🕒 Duration : 5 hours | ✔️ Book Here

Looking to relax? This Pearl Island private cabana is for you. Pearl island is a great alternative to a beach resort because it’s tailored to cruise visitors.

Pearl island is a small island off of Nassau with beaches, excursions, and amenities such as restaurants and restrooms.

This Pearl Island cabana rental includes a boat ride to and from the cruise ship port, an oceanside cabana with a private server, a welcome cocktail, lunch, and snorkeling equipment.

  • Private cabana is perfect for a romantic escape or families
  • Inclusive food and snorkeling makes it a full day of fun
  • Access to two white sand beaches for swimming and relaxing
  • Since it’s an island, you will have to start and end the activity at a set time, having less flexibility than a resort day pass

nassau cruise port to baha mar

8. Cabbage Beach Day

Cabbage beach is the #1 beach in Nassau. It’s where you’ll find the most popular resorts such as Atlantis and the Four Seasons.

You can visit Cabbage beach through a resort pass, mentioned above, if you want amenities such as restrooms and bar service.

Alternatively, you can visit on your own since the entire beach is public. Simply pack your own towel, snacks, and water from the ship.

Nassau bahamas beach sand and ocean

9. Walk to Junkanoo Beach

If you’re looking for an activity next to the port, Junkanoo beach is a good walkable option. I have not been personally, but have heard varied opinions.

Some people love that it’s walking distance and love spending the day there. Other people share that it is overcrowded, a little dirty, and not worth getting off the ship.

I’d recommend Junkanoo beach if you simply want to walk along the beach or visit for a short amount of time before heading back to downtown Nassau.

If you want a long beach day, I recommend Cabbage beach (mentioned above).

10. Historic Bike Tour

🕒 Duration : 4.5 hours | ✔️ Book Here

This bike tour is a combination of exercise, sightseeing, and a food tour. It includes stops at popular landmarks where you can learn about the island’s history.

You will also visit food and drink stops such as rum, chocolate, and conch fritters.

  • Guided tour to learn about the island and try tasty local food
  • Good way to get some light exercise
  • It might be too hot in the middle of the day for exercise

Black Rubber Flipper on Gray Concrete Surface during Daytime

11. Snorkeling Tour

🕒 Duration :4 hours | ✔️ Book Here

There is great snorkeling in many popular Caribbean cruise ports . Nassau is no different.

On this snorkel tour, you will embark from the cruise port to a popular snorkeling spot with potential animal sightings such as turtles and stingrays.

From there, you will continue on to Rose Island for swimming, beach time, and a grilled lunch.

  • Combination of snorkeling and beach
  • Potential to see turtles and stingrays
  • Snorkeling quality may be better at a different port on your cruise

12. Sportfishing

🕒 Duration : 8 hours | ✔️ Book Here

If you’re into fishing, this private yacht sportfishing tour is for you. Since this is a private tour, you can customize it to your interests. Some things to choose from are fishing, snorkeling, beach time, sightseeing, and swimming with pigs.

Unlike other boat charters, this one is specifically outfitted for fishing with equipment, coolers, and ice.

  • Flexible day on a private yacht
  • Tailor the activities to your interests
  • More expensive than some other excursions on this list

13. Explore Fort Charlotte

Fort Charlotte in the Bahamas is best known for its beautiful views of the harbor, its cannons, and its fortifications, making it an ideal spot for sightseeing.

Additionally, the fort is home to a number of historical sites that provide an interesting insight into the country’s history.

One of the most popular activities at the fort is a guided tour, which includes a visit to the dungeons and the ramparts.

Other activities include exploring the inner courtyard, climbing the stairs to the highest point of the fort for a stunning view, and visiting the barracks and powder magazine.

If you’re interested in historic forts, I’ve also heard good things about Fort Fincastle.

Straw Accessories on Stand on Market

14. Visit the Straw Market

Explore the Straw Market for local crafts, souvenirs, and handmade items, including straw bags and hats. This is not a full-day activity, but is a good stop either to or from the cruise port.

It’s expected to negotiate with the local vendors. I’d expect to pay around 60% of the initial listed price for any item.

A Black and White Flag

15. Visit the Pirate Museum

Learn about Nassau’s pirate history at the Pirates Museum , featuring interactive exhibits and displays. Since the museum is indoors, this is a great activity if there is bad weather or you need a break from the sun.

The entire museum is interactive with exhibits such as a shanty town, flag room, and recreation of the pirate trials. There are also exhibits dedicated to famous pirates such as Blackbeard and Anne Bonny.

As of 2023, admission is $14 for adults and $7 for children under 18.

Man in Blue T-Shirt Holding Plate with Fried Seafood

16. Experience Fish Fry in Fish Fry

Arawak Cay is a part of Nassau known for having many local restaurants. It’s commonly referred to as “Fish Fry” since there are so many fish fries in the area.

A Fish Fry is a traditional Bahamian event that usually involves cooking and eating a variety of freshly-caught fish, such as grouper, snapper, and yellowtail. The ingredients typically used in Bahamian Fish Fry are garlic, onion, thyme, seasoning, and a variety of other spices, depending on the preference of the cook.

The fish is fried in oil and served with sides such as potatoes, coleslaw, and macaroni and cheese. It is a popular and traditional meal in the Bahamas and is enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike.

If you get hungry during your day in Nassau, head to this part of the island to try it for yourself.

17. Visit Ardastra Gardens, Zoo, and Conservation Centre

The Ardastra Gardens are the only conservation center in the Bahamas. The initial goal of the gardens was to bring visitors peace, and act as a home for the endangered Caribbean flamingos.

Now, Ardastra is home to over 135 animals and interactive exhibits. You can feed tortoises, see tropical birds, or water the flamingo show.

The gardens are open seven days a week. The entrance rates as of 2023 are $35 for adults and $25 for kids.

FAQ – Nassau Bahamas Cruise Port

Yes! It is definitely worth visiting Nassau Bahamas. If you’re visiting on a cruise, be sure to get off the ship to explore. There are many fun things to do in Nassau such as snorkeling, swimming with pigs, touring the island, or relaxing at the beach.

To get to the official taxi line, walk through the cruise terminal, following signs for the taxis. You will exit past a fence, then see many taxi drivers offering tours and rides. Any of these official taxis are safe to take. Expect to pay around $8 per person to get to paradise island.

Yes, you can just walk around Nassau. From the cruise port, you can walk to the Straw Market, downtown shopping, and Junkanoo beach. The port was also recently renovated, so you can walk around there to visit an art gallery, souvenir shop, or food stall.

Summary of What to Do in Nassau

By now, you should be convinced there are many amazing things to do in Nassau Bahamas port. I hope I’ve convinced you that Nassau is worth visiting and you should get off the ship and go on a guided tour or explore on your own.

Still deciding what to do? Here are my top three choices:

Best for families : Half Day Private Boat Charter

Best for beach lovers : Baha Mar Day Pass

Best for foodies : Rum and Food Tour
