Good for any Rock Junket tour!

This was the best tour we have ever been on!!! Our tour guide was nice and literally so knowledgeable of East Village and the history behind it! We are from California and we were so excited for this tour! It wend beyond our expectations! I highly recommend.

Amazing tour around the East Village with Bobby! He was warm, friendly & very knowledgeable with all the music facts and information. We had a small group tour so it felt very personal & was a unique and interesting activity to do whilst we were in New York! We loved seeing the hangouts for all the musical legends gone by. Highly recommend and very well worth the money for 2hours of Music history and lots of fun.

I did this tour of the Lower East side 15 years ago and it’s still just as good. Bobby is extremely knowledgeable on both the history of the area and the music. You won’t find a more authentic tour guide & his book is a great read too.

We LOVED our tour. If music is your thing you will so enjoy this. Our tour guide Joe was so knowledgeable and fun. He personalized to talk about bands we love, came with great photos, and created a perfect afternoon. Also a covid activity - Joe was super safe and thoughtful about the way he managed our group and very careful to keep his mask on for the entire duration of our tour. Last but not least, it was easy to communicate with the company that runs the tour- they even accommodated the later start we requested. THANKS Rock Junket!

Wether you are a musician looking for inspiration or a music enthusiast you should definitely experience this awesome tour! Our guide Joe a very friendly and kind person made this experience unforgettable. Thank you! Kiriakos GP, guitarist from Greece.

Great, informative tour with Bobby Pinn. My two teens and I really enjoyed it. Bobby had great stories and showed us so many places that are part of rock history. He also gave us recommendations for great restaurants, clubs and record stores; we followed up on those and found his advice to be rock solid!

My husband, daughter and I were very keen to take the Greenwich Village tour and so we are very grateful that Rock Junket decided to go ahead with its Sunday 10th November tour despite having only our party of three and one other person booked onto it. Joe was the perfect tour guide. He is as passionate about music and social history as we are. His detailed knowledge of Greenwich Village's geography, social history and music meant that he quickly took us to, and offered us an insight into, the Bob Dylan related areas of Greenwich Village which were of particular interest to us. Thank you Joe and Rock Junket we had a great time. P.S the Rock Junket book is a fantastic souvenir.

We had a great time on this tour and would highly recommend. The guide was very knowledgeable and showed us so many historic music spots. It was really fun!

A must do for everyone who loves music. Great experience with Bobby Pinn. Bobby is a passionate music lover and you can feel the area the way it was.

We an amazing East Village Rock Tour on Thursday 28th July with Bobby Pinn, who was a great host and he had a lot of Knowledge about the area, I have been to the area before but thanks to Bobby know a lot of new stuff about the area

Larry is a true encyclopedia on everything music/Woodstock history! Absolutely amazing tour. Learned so much. If you’re ever in the Woodstock area, I highly recommend this tour. You won’t be disappointed.

We had a wonderful walking tour with Joe around Greenwich Village. It was fun to get the stories from a local who knows his stuff. Lots of fun tidbits and a great way to see the Village and historical spots. Joe was delightful and very personable. I especially loved the photos…

15 Best Music Venues In NYC For Live Music

These NYC music venues are known to bring in the best artists from all corners of the globe!

Corey Fuller

It’s no secret that NYC’s music scene is massive, and there’s tons of concerts rolling through the city every night! From the city’s largest stages to hole in the wall venues in Brooklyn, there’s no shortage of live music to be had.

In this list, we’ve gathered all of our favorite music venues that we feel make for the perfect concert experience. From the space to the amenities to even the lineups. Check out the music venues in NYC that make our must-visit list below!

1. Forest Hills Stadium

Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, NY

Forest Hills Stadium in Queens is a former U.S Open tennis stadium-turned concert venue, and welcomes A-list acts throughout the summer! It resides in the charming tennis neighborhood of Forest Hills, and holds about 13,000 people between the floor and its bowl seating. The artists they book range in genre, from rock and pop, to indie and electronic…and they’ve welcomed the likes of The Beatles and Bob Dylan over the years. Concerts here typically run in full general admission, meaning the floor is first come first serve! Check out this summer’s lineup here !

Where: 1 Tennis Pl, Queens

2. Radio City Music Hall

March 27, 2017: The interior spaces of Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Many consider Radio City Music Hall as one of NYC’s most iconic venues, since its stunning space has been entertaining the masses since the 1930s. Of course it’s home to The Rockettes during the holiday season, but this venue continues to bring in top-notch artists, orchestras, and theatrical productions all year round. Their state-of-the-art sound system and balcony-style seating arrangement makes for no bad seats, and it’s truly an NYC staple you must see to believe. Check out their upcoming calendar here .

Where: 1260 6th Ave

3. The Brooklyn Mirage & Avant Gardner

John Summit show at The Brooklyn Mirage, 2023.

Avant Gardner in East Williamsburg is an electronic music fan’s heaven, thanks to their 3 different spaces that pump out DJ sets until the wee hours of the morning! Bringing the energy of Ibiza to the Big Apple, this venue books the world’s most famous EDM acts and places them on state-of-the-art stages surrounded by cutting-edge lighting and sound, and of course, a massive stretching LED board. In the summer, their outdoor haven The Brooklyn Mirage opens up as a dance floor, and during the colder months The Great Hall and the even smaller Kings Hall bring the same amount of energy. Check out all of their upcoming shows here !

Where: 140 Stewart Ave, Brooklyn

4. Beacon Theatre

September 1, 2009; Beacon Theatre interior beauty shots post-restoration.

The stunning Beacon Theatre will catch your eye quickly, thanks to the sparkle of its Art-Deco interior and elegant stage. What’s now become a landmark amongst the NYC entertainment venue scene, this spot has been welcoming legendary artists across genres, from rock ‘n’ roll icons to jazz legends since 1929. This three-tiered theater is perfect for a concert, comedy show, or theatrical production. See what’s happening here .

Where: 2124 Broadway

5. The Bowery Ballroom

Bowery Ballroom venue in NYC

Bowery Ballroom is one of the more intimate NYC venues in the city, offering up close and personal experiences with fan’s favorite artists. It’s nestled away in the Lower East Side, and often serves as a tour stop for many emerging artists before they make it big! Their cool and gritty charm (brick walls, vintage decor) perfectly complements its diverse lineup of talented artists too. Check out what’s coming up here .

Where: 6 Delancey St

6. Brooklyn Steel

Brooklyn Steel venue in Brooklyn, NYC

Think former steel fabrication warehouse turned music venue and you have Brooklyn Steel. Complete with an industrial-chic aesthetic, this spot holds about 1,800 and was even named one of the best venues in the country by Rolling Stone. It attracts a diverse lineup of artists across genres, mainly indie bandies and rising stars. Imagine a graduation from Bowery Ballroom to Brooklyn Steel!

Where: 319 Frost St, Brooklyn

7. Elsewhere

Rooftop at Elsewhere in Bushwick, NY

Elsewhere is one of our favorite venues and NYC nightclubs , thanks to the diverse space and musical lineup it offers. Between its main hall, rooftop, and other rooms, this spot’s three stories of dance floors and stages are groundbreaking in the Bushwick neighborhood . We suggest checking this spot out in the summer for a rooftop party at sunset, but events are going on all year long in their indoor rooms…plus they attract top talent. Check out what’s on their schedule here .

Where: 599 Johnson Ave, Brooklyn

8. Kings Theatre

nyc music tour

Kings Theatre might just be one of the more visually stunning performance centers we have in all of NYC. After reopening back up in 2015 after restorations, its absolutely gorgeous space welcomes an array of artists that provide an incredible show. It features a dazzling chandelier, plush velvet seating, and state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems. Not only do they do concerts, but they also welcome comedy, film screenings, fashion shows, and more! See what’s happening at Kings Theatre here .

Where: 1027 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn

9. The Rooftop at Pier 17

Concertgoers at The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City.

During the summer, The Rooftop at Pier 17 is one of our favorite music venues in NYC. Considering it’s located right on the water of South Street Seaport in Manhattan, this open-air rooftop makes for a one-of-a-kind setting. What could be better than dancing to your favorite artist while you take in panoramic views of the city skyline and the East River? It feels like a fairytale…especially when your favorite band touches the stage. Check out their full summer lineup here !

Where: 89 South St

10. Irving Plaza

Irving Plaza music venue in NYC

Irving Plaza is right in the heart of it all in Union Square. Its 1,200 person capacity makes it intimate but not too small, and their booked artists are always fantastic too. It’s a no frills spot that is great to see a show, no matter if it’s your favorite artist or someone you’ve never heard of.

Where: 17 Irving Pl

11. Carnegie Hall

View of seating at Carnegie Hall in NYC

For all of our classical music fans out there, Carnegie Hall is the Mecca. The world’s finest classical, jazz, and world music artists file through the historic doors of this venue, packing it out for one-of-a-kind symphony displays and solo virtuosos. Everything from the music to the ambiance is elegant here… from the plush red seats in Stern Auditorium to the balconies of Arthur Zankel Hall. See all of their events here .

Where: 881 7th Ave

12. Webster Hall

Webster Hall venue in New York City.

Webster Hall is another no-frills spot that has been around since 1886 (yes you read that right!). The iconic NYC venue is in East Village and offers a sizable dance floor, balcony standing space, and a great place to catch intimate performances. It’s been renovated a handful of times and now features a massive disco ball, lots of bars, and an award-winning production crew. Check out Webster Hall’s schedule here .

Where: 125 E 11th St

13. The Mercury Lounge

nyc music tour

Mercury Lounge is truly a small room with a booming sound system and great small acts. You’ll never know what you may stumble upon here…whether it be local NYC artists trying to make it big or international artists on their first NYC tour date. The venue is small and only holds 250 people, so you know it’s intimate. It’s launched many careers here in NYC and holds a large tale in the city’s rock music history. Check out what’s going on here .

Where: 217 E Houston St

14. Madison Square Garden

July 18, 2018: Overview of the sold out crowd during Billy Joel's record breaking 100th show in the arena at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Of course we have to mention one of NYC’s largest arenas as a great spot to see some live music. When they’re not hosting a sports game, you can catch music’s largest acts rocking out to crowds of over 19,000 people. Everything here is world class too, from the performances to the sound systems to even the luxurious suites. There’s nothing quite like seeing iconic superstars take on the Big Apple’s most sought after stage. Check out MSG’s upcoming shows here .

Where: 4 Pennsylvania Plaza

15. Music Hall of Williamsburg

Music Hall of Williamsburg venue in NYC.

This Williamsburg venue breathes the characteristics of its surrounding neighborhood with it’s gritty and rag-to-riches aura. The small space only can fit about 650 people, and the acts they get there are often emerging or very early on in their careers. Their lineup is diverse and can range in genre, but Music Hall of Williamsburg is a hotbed typically for indie rock and underground artists. They do shows nearly every night too. Check out their lineup here .

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine rocks out on guitar.

Megadeth is a busy band.

The thrash metal group is currently midway through their ongoing ‘Crush The World Tour’ that wraps up with a festival appearance at Portugal’s Evil Live in late June.

Rather than pump the brakes, Dave Mustaine and co. are going full throttle into August and September with their newly announced ‘Destroy All Enemies Tour’ with Mudvayne and All That Remains.

On the 33-concert trek, they’ll make three New York stops.

First, Megadeth will mosh their way into Albany’s MVP Arena on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

After, that, the quartet is slated to headbang at Bethel’s Bethel Woods Center For The Arts on Friday, Sept. 13 and Wantagh’s Jones Beach Theater on Saturday, Sept. 14.

“We are all playing tight, and that has made it possible for me to really focus on solos and singing,” Mustaine shared in a press release about the ‘Crush The World Tour.’ “We are playing more songs than ever before, and we are closer to each other, onstage AND off.”

If you can’t wait to see Megadeth’s polished act live at the venue nearest you, tickets can be picked up for all newly announced North American concerts as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 26, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

01.) “The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!” 02.) “Skin o’ My Teeth” 03.) “Hangar 18” 04.) “Sweating Bullets” 05.) “She-Wolf” 06.) “Angry Again” 07.) “Dystopia” 08.) “This Was My Life” 09.) “Trust” 10.) “Tornado of Souls” 11.) “A tout le monde” 12.) “We’ll Be Back” 13.) “Symphony of Destruction” 14.) “Peace Sells”

15.) “Holy Wars… The Punishment Due”

Megadeth new music

The international and U.S. tours are in support of Megadeth’s 2022 album “The Sick, The Dying…and The Dead!”

Made up of 14 heavy tracks filled with relentless guitars, thunderous drums, soaring vocals and a guest turn from Ice-T, the record is a triumph especially considering it was released three years after lead singer Dave Mustaine was diagnosed with throat cancer.

If you want to check out — or revisit — the album, “The Sick, The Dying…and The Dead!” can be found here .

Megadeth special guests

At all shows, Megadeth will be joined by Mudvayne and All That Remains.

As a refresher, here are their most streamed songs on Spotify.

Mudvayne: “Happy?”

All That Remains: “Two Weeks”

Metal groups on tour in 2024

This is a heckuva year for those that love to thrash.

While there are dozens of huge heavy acts hitting the road these next few months, we found five that we think Megadeth fans won’t want to miss.

•  Metallica

• Iron Maiden

• Lamb of God and Mastodon

•  Judas Priest

A Tour Of New York's Music Landmarks

Joe Strummer Mural

NYC is full of monuments, landmarks, and museums for anything and everything. No matter what you’re interested in, it probably has history in New York, and music is no different. Nearly every famous musician has come through here, and it’s the city where many of them actually got their start . And while there’s plenty to learn about music in New York through museums or historical sites, one of the more unique things about NYC’s music history is that, if you know where to look, you can see it on the street. From cafes to building facades to perhaps your very hotel room, our guide will help you find some of NYC’s best music landmarks that you might’ve otherwise overlooked.

1. strawberry fields.

Memorial, Park

Strawberry Fields

A memorial to John Lennon in Central Park, Strawberry Fields is a 2.5-acre space directly adjacent to the Dakota Apartments where John Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, once lived. It was just outside his apartment that John Lennon was shot and killed in December of 1980, and in 1981 city council member Henry Stern designated this area of the park ‘Strawberry Fields’ after The Beatles’ song ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’.

Joe Strummer Memorial

Born in 1952, Joe Strummer was the lead singer of iconic British punk band The Clash. The band was known for its rebellious attitude, politically charged lyrics, and fearlessness. The Clash influenced the alternative rock scene in countless ways, and in 2003 both The Clash and Joe Strummer were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . Strummer died in 2002, and in 2003 a mural in his memory was painted in the East Village. Though it was temporarily defaced due to construction in 2013, it has since been fully restored. 132 E 7th Street New York, NY , USA

Howard Jones

A new wave one-stop shop will tour North America this summer when Howard Jones and ABC will be hitting stages across North America with special guest Haircut 100. The full itinerary appears below.

“I’m very excited to be hitting the road with my friends ABC and Haircut 100,” Jones enthused. “Our audiences can look forward to some seriously top tunes night after night!  Bring your celebratory selves to the party.”

Popular on Variety

Of course, the evening will play out like an evening filled with hits from the early days of MTV, when the so-called “Second British Invasion” dominated the channel. Jones’ hits “New Song” and “What Is Love,” and “Things Can Only Get Better” probably segued into or out of ABC’s “Look of Love,” “Poison Arrow” and “Be Near Me” and Haircut 100’s “Love Plus One” and “Fantastic Day.”

All three acts have gone on to other successes, but this tour brings together the songs and sounds that first brought them to fame.

Taylor Swift Has Given Fans a Lot. Is It Finally Too Much?

Swift has been inescapable over the last year. With the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,” her latest (very long) album, some seem to finally be feeling fatigued.

Taylor Swift, on a platform, surrounded by men in suits.

Four new studio albums. Four rerecorded albums, too. A $1 billion oxygen-sucking world tour with a concert movie to match. And, of course, one very high-profile relationship that spilled over into the Super Bowl .

For some, the constant deluge that has peaked in the past year is starting to add up to a new (and previously unthinkable) feeling: Taylor Swift fatigue.

And it is a feeling that has only solidified online in the days following the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,” which morphed from a 16-song album into a 31-song, two-hour epic just hours after its release .

Many critics (including The New York Times’s own) have suggested that the album was overstuffed — simply not her best. And critiques of the music have now opened a sliver of space for a wider round of complaint unlike any Swift has faced over her prolific and world-conquering recent run.

“It’s almost like if you produce too much… too fast… in a brazen attempt to completely saturate and dominate a market rather than having something important or even halfway interesting to say… the art suffers!” Chris Murphy, a staff writer at Vanity Fair, posted on X .

Which is not to say nobody listened to the album; far from it. Spotify said “Poets,” which was released on Friday, became the most-streamed album in a single day with more than 300 million streams .

And of course, many of Swift’s most ardent fans, known as “Swifties,” loved her 11th album or, at least, have decided to air any reservations in private conversations. The first days of the album’s release have been greeted with the usual lyrical dissections for key allusions hidden within the songs, attention to every word that few other artists receive.

But others, including some self-identified Swift fans, have freely admitted frustration. Fans and critics alike have contended that Swift’s lyrics have become a tad verbose and that the tracks on this latest album — many of them breakup songs — sounded a whole lot like others she has already put out . The internet has also provided an almost unlimited supply of jokes about the length of the album .

Some admonished Swift for selling so many versions of “Poets” only to double its size after those orders were in, part of a cynically corporate rollout . (Care for the CD , vinyl or the Phantom Clear vinyl ?) The Daily Mail cobbled together what it deemed “The 10 WORST lyrics in Taylor Swift’s new album — ranked!”

For its part, Reductress , the satirical women’s magazine, offered a post titled “Woman Doing Her Best to Like New Taylor Swift Album Lest She Face the Consequences.”

Those who dare to publicly criticize Swift are acutely aware of the potential for backlash. Murphy, the Vanity Fair writer, made a dark joke about it . At least one X user who posted a lengthy thread eviscerating Swift, the album and its rollout took the post private after it got more than three million views. Paste Magazine opted not to put a byline on its harsh review of Swift’s album, citing safety concerns for the writer.

In an unusual twist, even Swift herself is widely viewed as admonishing her most militant defenders in one particular song on the new album, “But Daddy I Love Him.” Some contingents of Swift’s fanbase strongly disapproved of her brief relationship with Matty Healy of the 1975 and appear to now be bristling at the amount of record real estate Healy consumes on the latest album .

Weird, complicated times in Taylor land.

“It might be a tough few days for the fanbase,” Nathan Hubbard, a co-host of the Ringer podcast, “ Every Single Album ,” wrote in a social media thread about “Poets” on Friday . “They’ll hear some valid criticism they aren’t used to (if the critics dare), and for many they’ll have to reconcile their own truth that this isn’t their favorite, while still rightly celebrating it and supporting her.”

Indeed, grinding through the 31-song double album after midnight had felt like “a hostage situation,” Hubbard wrote.

On a new podcast episode, which was released over the weekend, Hubbard and his co-host, Nora Princiotti, were among those who pointed out that while the album may be imperfect, Swift simply may have needed to purge herself of the songs on “Poets” to process a turbulent time in her life.

Princiotti said she enjoyed much of the album and was careful to stipulate that “Poets” did contain several “special songs.”

But she also allowed for some “tough love.”

“Musically, I do not really hear anything new,” she said, adding that Swift “could have done a little bit more self editing.”

“I don’t think the fact that this is a double-album that is more than two hours in length serves what’s good about it,” Princiotti said. “And I think that for the second album in a row, I’m still sort of left going, ‘OK, where do we go from here?’”

Princiotti ultimately graded “Poets” a “B.” And in the world of her podcast and universe of Taylor Swift, Princiotti acknowledged — that might have been an all-time low.

An earlier version of this article misstated the title of Taylor Swift’s new album. It is “The Tortured Poets Department,” not “The Tortured Poets Society.”
