Here’s how to get tickets to the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla

The PGA Championship returns to Valhalla in 2024.

If you think it’s too early to start planning for next year’s PGA Championship when we’re not even halfway through this year’s edition, think again!

The 2024 PGA Championship is already less than a year away, and will be played May 13-19 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.

In an effort to streamline the ticket-buying process, the PGA of America is asking hopeful attendees to register online in order to have an opportunity to buy tickets. By registering, you are essentially holding your place in line to buy tickets — first come, first serve — when they officially go on sale in June.

So how can you register for tickets to the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla ?

First, visit the 2024 PGA Championship website here .

What makes Oak Hill’s rough so brutal? It’s not its length

Next, click on the Ticket Registry box. From there, you’ll fill out an online form with your name, email, street address and mobile number. That’s it! When tickets do go on sale and your purchase window opens, you’ll be notified with the contact info you provided.

One thing to note: Demand for 2024 PGA Championship tickets at Valhalla is expected to be high. Registering does not guarantee the opportunity to buy tickets, but it’s the best way to ensure you have a chance. If there’s still available inventory after all registrants have had the opportunity to buy tickets, the remaining tickets will be released to non-registrant purchasers.

'a kentucky feel': 3 big changes as pga championship returns to valhalla golf club in 2024, share this article.

LOUISVILLE — The PGA Championship returns to Valhalla Golf Club in 2024 for the first time in a decade.

The past two times Valhalla hosted have offered stirring finishes: In 2000, Tiger Woods won his third consecutive major championship, outlasting Bob May in a playoff; 14 years later, Rory McIlroy held off a star-studded leaderboard to beat Phil Mickelson by one shot.

Those memorable majors are a gift and a curse for Ryan Ogle, the championship director.

“We’re always trying to figure out, ‘How do we make it better? How do we grow it?'” Ogle said Tuesday at Valhalla. “Why do you want to come to this championship? (Like), ‘Oh, you were here in ’14?’

“Why should you come in 2024? That’s where we have to really make sure we’re telling a compelling story about the fan experience, the spectator experience.”

Valhalla to have a ‘Kentucky feel’ at every turn

By the time the first tee shot is struck next year, the property will have undergone a transformation.

The clubhouse is being renovated. A 36,000-square-foot agronomy center is being built near the 15th hole. The waterfall on the 13th hole — known as “The Island” — is more noticeable. A new tee box will be in use on 18.

Kirchdorfer’s goal is to ensure Valhalla reminds players and fans of the Bluegrass State at every turn.

“You’ll see themes throughout, even the limestone outcroppings and what limestone is to this state,” Kirchdorfer said. “That’s why we have the horse industry. That’s why we have bourbon. So you see the white picket fence. You see the clubhouse is going to have a Kentucky feel. Just showing that heritage is important to us.”

2024 PGA Championship to play longer, faster

Valhalla played at 7,458 yards in 2014. Though the length for the 2024 event hasn’t been announced, it likely will be longer given the ever-increasing distance of current players.

The length, Ogle said, is less important than the calendar. Ten years ago, the PGA was contested in August. Now, it’s played in May.

“You’re going to see a faster golf course and more challenging golf course,” he said. “Some of these run offs, there’s going to be a lot more trouble that comes into play with the fast and firm surfaces.”

Ogle, as well as general chairman Jimmy Kirchdorfer — who leads the investment group that now owns Valhalla — said they don’t have a winning score in mind.

“What Kerry Haigh does is he sets up a fair but tough golf course,” said Ogle, referring to the PGA of America’s chief championship officer. “He puts it in the players’ hands and then he gets out of the way.”

Tickets to include food, drinks; no decision on alcohol yet

A ticket to the major will include all-you-can-eat food and bottomless non-alcoholic beverages, a practice that began in 2021. A determination on alcoholic beverage prices — which made headlines for the wrong reasons during last year’s PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma — will come at a later date.

“We’re going to do things that we feel are in the best interest of our fans, of the spectator, of the championship,” Ogle said. “And you know, it’s not always going to be right. We’re going to look at it every time after events. We’re going to make sure we try to improve that.”

2024 PGA Championship

May 19, 2024, valhalla golf club.

Defending Champion: Brooks Koepka

The PGA Championship makes its return to Valhalla for the 106th edition. This will be the fourth time the PGA of America’s premier event - one of golf’s four major championships - will be played at Valhalla on the heels of Mark Brooks winning in 1996, Tiger Woods winning in 2000 and Rory McIlroy winning in 2014. Valhalla also hosted the 2008 Ryder Cup and the 2004 and 2011 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championships. Contested each May, the PGA Championship is the second major championship in golf’s annual rotation, and perennially features the strongest field in the men’s game based on the Official World Golf Rankings. Known for dramatic finishes and notable champions, the Wanamaker Trophy—which has been awarded to the winner since 1916—is inscribed with names such as Koepka, McIlroy, Woods, Mickelson, Nicklaus, and Player. As the only major championship for professionals, and by professionals, the PGA Championship boldly influences the future of our sport, inspiring the golfer in all of us by challenging golf’s premier athletes and showcasing the PGA Professionals who are the backbone of the game.

Valhalla Golf Club will host the 2024 PGA Tour Championship next May, and ticket registration is now open.

"People like Justin Thomas, who's never played here. Jordan Speith was very new in 2014, John Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, " listed Ogle. "I mean, really, the names that people have yet to see in Louisville are coming and we just want people to come join us."

If you are interested, you are encouraged to register. There is no obligation to purchase if you do.

You will need to submit your name, email and address to hold your place in line for an opportunity to buy tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis. Your ticket will include food and beverages at the event.

You can register by going here .

The PGA is also looking for volunteers. Registration for that starts on April 17.

These positions are very limited and are expected to fill quickly. To receive more information and be notified when Volunteer registration begins, you can go here .

PGA Championship heads back to Valhalla in 2024 where Woods, McIlroy won titles

The pga of america has been busy naming future sites over the last week.

The PGA of America has announced that the 2024 PGA Championship will return to Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky.

They're attempting to own the month of November, it seems. Last week, the organization announced that the 2028 PGA Championship and 2032 Ryder Cup would be played at Olympic Club in San Francisco. Earlier this week, they announced that the 2020 Women's PGA Championship and 2027 PGA Championship would be played at Aronimink in Philadelphia .

Valhalla is the site of Tiger Woods' famous 2000 win in the PGA over Bob May as well as the 2008 Ryder Cup, and the course where Rory McIlroy last won a major in 2014. The 2024 PGA Championship will be the fourth PGA Championship in its history (it also hosted in 1996) in addition to the Ryder Cup and two Senior PGAs.

"We're always proud to return the PGA Championship to Valhalla and the city of Louisville," PGA of America president Paul Levy said. "In the last 30 or so years, Valhalla has hosted an abundance of historical moments penned by some of the game's greatest champions. It's been a remarkable run and we're anxious to experience just what Valhalla's next chapter has in store."

There have been a lot of dramatic moments at this venue in the past two PGAs played here. From Woods' finger-pointing birdie putt to McIlroy staring down Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler en route to his fourth major championship, it's been the site of terrific tournaments.

Here are all the future PGA Championship venues now that Olympic, Aronimink and Valhalla have been added to the list.

Michael Block matches Masters legend with epic Valhalla round, site of 2024 PGA Championship

Michael Block, PGA Championship, Oak Hill Country Club, Valhalla Country Club

Michael Block must love playing PGA Championship venues.

After becoming an international sensation at Oak Hill this past May, the PGA of America invited Block to play at Valhalla, the site of the 2024 PGA Championship.

Located in Lousiville, Kentucky, Valhalla has hosted the 1996, 2000, and 2014 PGA Championships, as well as the 2008 Ryder Cup , won by the United States.

The Jack Nicklaus course is a great layout that challenges anyone who plays it, both professionals and amateurs.

However, it did not challenge Block on Thursday as he tied the course record , according to his Instagram story.

Michael Block

Block made three birdies and eagled the long par-5 7th to go out with a 5-under 31. The 47-year-old then made four birdies on the back nine, including at the 17th and 18th holes, to shoot a 9-under 63.

Only one other man has carded this elusive round at Valhalla before: Jose Maria Olazabal. The Spaniard shot a 63 during the third round of the 2000 PGA Championship, which Tiger Woods won.

During the 2000 PGA, the course measured 7,165 yards. But as Block’s Instagram story indicates, he played from the back tees, which have been lengthened to 7,765 yards—an incredible length for any golf course.

So Block could claim the course record for himself, but Olazabal’s round was during a major championship. Right now, they both should claim it.

But perhaps somebody will go lower at Valhalla in 2024. Maybe Block is the one that does. After his hole-in-one at Oak Hill , it would not surprise anyone.

Marcus Byrd wins fourth APGA Tour event of season with strong performance at Valhalla

Marcus Byrd wins fourth APGA Tour event of season with strong performance at Valhalla

Change Text Size

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Marcus Byrd captured his APGA Tour-record fourth tournament title in a single season Tuesday, firing a 4-under-par 67 to win APGA at Valhalla Golf Club and continue a year to remember.

His two-day performance of 67-67-134 was good for a three-stroke victory over Ryan Ellerbrock, who is in his first year on the APGA Tour. Quinn Riley of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Rovonta Young of Huntsville, Alabama finished another stroke back in a tie for third place at 138.

The 26 year-old from Temple Hill, Maryland (suburban Washington D.C.) took control on the front nine with consecutive birdies on holes four through seven. He then birdied three of the first four holes on the back to give himself some breathing room. A double bogey on No. 17 reduced his margin to two strokes but he eagled No. 18 to punctuate the win and extend his lead in the Lexus Cup Point Standings.

“First time I looked at the leaderboard was after that double bogey on 17,” said Byrd, whose high-quality play earned him four PGA TOUR starts via exemption earlier this year. “I knew I had to hit a good drive on 18 and I did.” His second shot on the 529-yard, par-5 18th was a 4-iron from 226 yards and Byrd hit the green, leaving a 35-foot putt for eagle. “I was relaxed. It felt good when I stood over it and it was good to see it go in.”

pga tour valhalla

Byrd’s whirlwind 2023 season started with a win on national TV at the APGA Tour Farmers Insurance Invitational at Torrey Pines in January. He then played the PGA TOUR’s Genesis Invitational and Honda Classic in February before winning APGA Florida in March. The PGA TOUR’S Wells Fargo Championship exemption came next in early May, followed by his win at APGA at TPC Deere Run later in the month. He returned to PGA TOUR competition at TPC Deere Run for the John Deere Classic in early July and now adds the APGA Tour Valhalla victory to his resume along with the first place prize of $7,500 from the $25,000 purse.

“The last six months have been incredible, but it’s been nonstop. I feel like I’ve gotten these opportunities and haven’t performed the way I wanted,” Byrd stated in reference to the four missed cuts on the PGA TOUR. “I took some time off after the John Deere Classic and it’s really helped with this win today. My goals now are Korn Ferry Tour Q-School in the fall and to win the APGA Tour Lexus Cup Point Standings.”

His fourth APGA Tour victory in a single season exceeds the mark of former APGA Tour stars Willie Mack III and Tim O’Neal, each of whom had three-win seasons as the tour was growing in recent years. Mack is now a fulltime player on the Korn Ferry Tour and O’Neal has full status on PGA TOUR Champions. Both secured their slots with top-five performances at the respective Q-Schools this past fall.

Byrd will continue to pursue his APGA Tour Player of the Year goal when competition continues with the APGA Two-Man Classic at TPC Louisiana in New Orleans July 30-August 1. The APGA Ascension Classic in St. Louis follows on August 8-10 at Glen Echo Country Club. The regular season then culminates with the Mastercard APGA Tour Championship at TPC Sugarloaf in suburban Atlanta August 13-15.
