Grammy-nominated artist Phoebe Bridgers announces two headline shows in Australia!

In addition to her performances at Laneway Festival, 2023, Phoebe Bridgers will also perform at Sydney’s Hordern Pavillion and Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena in February 2023.

Bridgers released her debut album in 2017. A little over two years later – after a seemingly non-stop tour of North America, UK, Europe, Japan and Australia – she found herself an internationally lauded musician with three acclaimed bodies of work to her name: her solo debut, Stranger In The Alps, the boygenius EP with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus in 2018, and Better Oblivion Community Center, a surprise collaboration with Conor Oberst, in 2019.

With the release of her 2020 sophomore album Punisher, Phoebe Bridgers cemented her position as one of the most irresistibly clever and tenderly prolific songwriters of our era. It was the sensitive, spectacular soundtrack to life in and out of lockdown worldwide – and even the Grammys took notice. In 2021 she received nominations for Best New Artist, Best Alternative Album, Best Rock Song and Best Rock performance.

Between recent collaborations with Taylor Swift, Lorde and The Killers, Phoebe Bridgers has become the patron saint of sad girls worldwide. But Phoebe Bridgers doesn’t write love songs as much as songs about the impact love can have on our lives, personalities, and priorities. To say she writes about heartbreak and pain is to undersell all the blue wisdom and strange joy of this phenomenal singer-songwriter.

Phoebe Bridgers has extended her ‘Reunion Tour’ to Australia, where she will play two headline shows apart from her scheduled run of dates at next year’s Laneway Festival.

The shows, announced today (November 16), will take place at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on Monday February 6 and at the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne on Wednesday February 8.

A pre-sale for both shows will begin tomorrow (November 17), from 10am local time. A general sale will follow 24 hours later, on Friday (November 18). All ticketing information is available through the tour promoter, Handsome Tours .

The announcement follow’s yesterday’s extensive announcement of headlining shows across Australia and New Zealand for the majority of Laneway’s international contingent – save for HAIM and Joji , who are exclusive to the festival itself. Among those that announced new shows were Fontaines D.C. , Turnstile , 100 Gecs , Fred again.. and Finneas .

The two dates will mark Bridgers’ first headline shows in Australia in almost four years, with the American singer-songwriter first touring in February 2019. Since that tour, in support of her debut album ‘Stranger In The Alps’, Bridgers was announced as the support act for The National ‘s Australian tour in 2020. After initially being postponed on account of the pandemic, however, the tour was later cancelled outright.

Bridgers released her second solo album, ‘Punisher’ , in June of 2020. Bridgers’ world tour in support of ‘Punisher’ began in September of 2021. It saw her tour extensively through both North America and Europe, and featured appearances from the likes of The 1975 ‘s Matty Healy in London , Clairo in Milan and both Maggie Rogers and Rina Sawayama during her performance at this year’s Latitude Festival.

This year, Bridgers has also appeared on stage with The Killers , collaborated with Marcus Mumford , co-starred in a new horror movie with Limp Bizkit ‘s Fred Durst and announced her engagement to actor Paul Mescal. Following her Australian tour, Bridgers will then open for select dates on Taylor Swift ‘s upcoming ‘Eras’ tour in 2023.

Phoebe Bridgers , the melancholy indie-pop icon, has announced arena shows in Melbourne and Sydney, occurring alongside the Laneway Festival tour in February 2023. Bridgers shared the news following yesterday’s slew of Laneway sideshow announcements, including  FINNEAS ,  girl in red  and Fontaines D.C. , which we wrote about  here .

It marks the first time that Bridgers is appearing in Australia since 2019, and is a notable step up in venue. Last time Bridgers was here, she performed at Melbourne’s Croxton and Sydney’s Oxford Arts Factory. This time it’s Margaret Court Arena and Hordern Pavilion.

Phoebe Bridgers – Savior Complex

Bridgers has been hard at work over the past few years, with an  intense touring schedule , the release of two collaborative works – the  boygenius  EP with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus and the  Better Oblivion Community Center  album with Conor Oberst — as well as her 2020 album,  Punisher . The latter was met with  critical acclaim , reinforcing her position as the doyenne of contemporary indie folk music.

Off the back of  Punisher ’s success, Bridgers has collaborated with Taylor Swift, Lorde and The Killers. She was due to tour Australia in 2020 supporting The National but this was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Handsome Tours, FBi Radio, Triple R and Jet Black Cat Music are excited to announce the debut Australian tour of Los Angeles-based Phoebe Bridgers .

These eagerly-awaited dates in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane culminate a whirlwind 18-months for the rising star, in which Bridgers appeared on the cover of The FADER, was named #1 Best New Artist of 2017 in the same publication and won the AIM Award for International Breakthrough Of The Year.

Bridgers’ 2017 debut album ‘Stranger In The Alps’ (Dead Oceans / Inertia) received rapturous reviews worldwide, leading to tours across North America and Europe with artists including The National, Bon Iver and Conor Oberst. In October 2018, Bridgers teamed up with her illustrious indie-rock contemporaries Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus as the group boygenius, releasing a self-titled EP on Matador Records which would be extensively profiled in publications from Pitchfork to The New Yorker.

From an early age, Bridgers found encouragement from a close-knit artistic community of friends and family to follow her dreams, and at school she forged relationships that would teach her as much about her craft as her classes. Inspired by the subdued emotional style of legendary songwriters like Elliott Smith, Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen, Bridgers began gigging around L.A, playing as often as she could. “Los Angeles is interwoven into my music inherently,” she says. “I don’t necessarily try to reference it, but because I’m pulling from experience it just appears.”

Soon enough, Bridgers powerful, lilting voice and haunting, introspective songs had inspired artists like Julien Baker to bring her on tour in 2016 as well as John Doe and Conor Oberst to sing with her on her debut album.

Perhaps nobody captures it better than The A.V Club, who raved “Stranger In The Alps alchemizes sorrow into redemptive beauty. It’s never about wallowing, but about slowly moving through it. That difference, played out over some incredible, wise-beyond-her-years songwriting, makes it one of the best albums of the year.”

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers has announced her debut Australian tour, which will see the 24-year-old perform in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in February 2019.

Bridgers released her debut album Stranger In The Alps in 2017, before touring with the likes of Bon Iver, The National and Conor Oberst. She also released a self-titled EP as part of the indie-rock group boygenius in October this year.

Phoebe Bridgers and her band were amazing. She's one cool songwriter/musician. Seeing her live made me a bigger fan than I already was. I really don't think she knows how talented she is. What would have made a better experience is the fault of the venue. The Constellation Room will oversell tickets for popular acts creating an overcrowded room. If the fire marshal were to have shown up there definitely would have been a problem. There were many people in front me that left because it was too packed. Many more people tried to enter the room and turned around and left after seeing there was no way to fit one more sardine in the can. Shame on The Observatory mgmt.! This is the only knock I have on the place. I love The Observatory. Been there dozens of times. They have the best staff in the business and the amazing experiences far outnumber the not so amazing experiences.

This concert was so beautiful. I loved every second of it. It was her last show with the band she was touring with, so she made it memorable. They ended up playing everything from Stranger in the Alps plus Steamroller and two covers. She finished with Sherly Crow's, If It Makes You Happy. The Pike room was filled with such a warm energy and it looked effortless for her to do it. I met her at the end. She had the sweetest soul. I hope she comes back to the Detroit area again! Definitely keep an eye out for this gem.

Saw Phoebe play at Bottom of the Hill and all I can say is that this was the best show I've ever been to! The talent from Phoebe and her band, as well as Lomelda and Harrison Whitford, was mindblowing! Her performance was even better than what's heard on studio recordings, and she has quite the endearing stage presence. I would jump at the chance to see her again!

A perfect show from an amazing artist. Outstanding performance. The set + encore were perfectly planned. Between-song banter was on point. I honestly can't imagine improving this show in any way---and the opener was great too!

The American singer-songwriter, who is in Australia for a series of concerts and to headline Laneway Festival, donned a black bikini as she soaked up the summer sun.

She wore her windswept ash blonde hair in a middle parting and rested her hands on her hips while standing knee deep in the surf.

Phoebe is said to have ended things with Paul, 27, in late 2022, after more than two years of dating.

Court, who won 24 major singles titles and is considered one of the best female players of all-time, is now a Christian minister more widely known for her views condemning homosexuality

Bridgers had clearly done her research before she played at Margaret Court Arena. 

'I think hate is undervalued,' she added.

'I think it's a f**king weird white supremacy idea that hate is bad... hate is what moves things throughout history... I hate that stupid b**ch [Court].

'Hate is like how you protect yourself, you know, like what, you are never supposed to be angry ever?'
