The District of Puri has been named after its headquarters, Puri. According to Cunningham, the ancient name of this town was Charitra, mentioned by the Chinese pilgrim Hiuen Tsang as Che-li-ta-lo. But the restoration of the word Che-li-ta-lo as Charitra and its identification with the town of Puri are open to doubt. The importance of the town as a seat of Vaisnavism increased when Chodaganga Deva constructed the temple of Purusottama Jagannath and installed the images of the deities. Thereafter, it became famous as the abode of Purusottama and was popularly called Purusottama Kshetra.

In 1912, the new province of Bihar and Odisha was formed and subsequently, Odisha became a separate province in 1936. After integration with Odisha on 1 st January 1948, of the feudatory states of Nayagarh, Daspalla, Khandapara and Ranapur with a total area of 3941 sq. km., a separate sub-division comprising these ex-states was added to Puri District with its headquarters at Nayagarh. The fourth sub-division of Bhubaneswar was established on 26 th January 1959. The old Puri District consisted of four sub-divisions i.e. Puri Sadar, Khordha, Bhubaneswar and Nayagarh. Puri Sadar sub-division consisted of four Tahasils i.e. 1) Krushna Prasad 2) Sadar 3) Pipili and 4) Nimapara. Again by the year 1995, Puri District was divided into 3 Districts i.e.1. Nayagarh District comprising of Nayagarh sub-division. 2. Khurda District comprising of Khordha and Bhubaneswar sub-divisions. 3. Puri District comprising of Puri Sadar sub-division only.

Chilika Lake

Kakatpur is famous for the Shrine of Goddess Mangala situated on the bank of river Prachi. The present temple dates back to the 15 th century AD and the deity belongs to the 9 th century AD. Alarnath Temple

The Vishnu Mandira. Many years ago (in 1610 A.D) Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu stayed at Alarnath during anavasara period of Lord Jagannath. Anavasara is the two weeks period when Lord Jagannatha take rests in isolation from the rest of the world after suffering from fever due to the annual bathing festival(Snana Yatra). Lord Chaitanya claimed that he visualized the appearance of Lord Jagannath in Alarnath and spent a long period in worshiping the deity here. It is believed that those who cannot worship Lord Jagannath during his stay in the sick chamber can get the blessings of the deity if they visit the Alarnath temple.

Sakhigopal or Satyabadi is famous for the shrine of Sakhigopal. It is one of the pilgrimage centers in the district and believes that one's pilgrimage to Puri is incomplete without visiting Sakhigopal. The name Sakhi Gopal literally means witness Gopal(Srikrishna). The temple of Sakhigopal is 60 ft height & the image of Shri Krishna and Radha is 5 ft & 4 ft height respectively.

Kuruma is famous for the excavated site of Buddha Vihar. It is a small village known as Jama–Dharma situated at a distance of 8 km from Konark. The village has come to prominence due to the discovery of Archaeological remains like the image of Lord Buddha seated in BhumiSparsa Mudra along with the image of Heruka (a Buddhist deity). There is a brick wall measuring 17 meters.

Chaurasi, a small village which is famous for the ancient temple of Varahi. Varahi is the Mother Goddess with the face of a boar. It is believed that She holds a fish in one hand and a cup in the other. The deity belongs to the 9 th century AD. She is worshiped accordingly to tantric rites. The existing temple of Laxminarayan and the deity of Nilamadhab are the additional attraction of the place. Close to the village Charasi, Amareswar is also famous for the shrine of Amareswar(Siva).

Biswanath Hill

The Temple is located on the upper part of Biswanath Mundia hill near Delang in Puri district, close to Puri and Bhubaneswar. Archeologists opine that there are many Buddhist stupas in this hill. Biswanath Hill is known for its ancient monastery of Dignag, the Buddhist Logician and Philosopher. There is also the archeological remains of a Varaha image.

Biswanath temple, Popularly known as Biswanath Mundia is famous for Lord Siva Biswanath. It is situated at the top of a Mundia(ROCK). It is 1/2 km from Delang Block in Puri district and the Block is situated at just lower to the Biswanath Mundia.

Raghurajpur

The village is also famous for Gotipua dance. Near to Raghurajpur is another better-known destination is DandaSahi, which has the potential of becoming a heritage village of tomorrow. A small village of about 50 households, Dandasahi is on the side of the historical road, through which Sri Chaitanya had traveled to Puri. The Raghurajpur village, idyllic setting on the Southern bank of the river Bhargavi, surrounded by Coconut, Palm, Mango, Jackfruit, Groves & other tropical trees. The village is famous for the community of artisans who produce different varieties of handicraft items like Patta paintings, palm leaf engravings, stone carvings, paper mache toys & masks, wood carvings, wooden toys, cow dung toys, tusser paintings etc.

Baliharachandi

There is a temple dedicated to goddess Harachandi at 27 km southwest of Puri on the NH-203 leading from Puri towards Brahmagiri and Satapada. In Odia language Bali means Sand & Harachandi means an angry form of Goddess Durga. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and is mounted on a sandy hill near the ocean. Beach is very near to the temple which is another major attraction of this place.

The temple of Goddess ‘Ramachandi’ on the river mouth of Kushabhadra is a splendid scenic picnic spot. It is situated 7 km before Konark on the Marine drive road from Puri to Konark. Ramachandi is popularly believed the presiding deity of Konark and the most benevolent Chandi known. It is certainly more ancient than the Sun temple at Konark.

Pipili is famous for Applique works which are a traditional craft of the local People. They prepare Chandua(colorful Arts on clothes), Umbrella, cloth Bags, Purses, Wall Hangings, Carpets, Garments for ladies & other applique works which have a good market in India and abroad. During World famous Ratha Yatra, the chariots(Raths) are being decorated with colorful clothes made by the People of pipili.

There are many stories about Beleswar Pitha. Some People believed that Lord Rama had established the ‘Siva Lingam’ here and had worshiped by offering Bela before proceeding to Lanka for war with the Demon king Ravana. Since this place was known as ‘Beleswar Pitha’ . The temple Beleswar has been constructed on a sand dune. Since the temple as located only at a distance of 4 km from the Sea, it has got more tourist potentiality.

Jahania Pira

Pir Mukudan Jahania Jahagast Pir is a Muslim saint, located near Astarang on the Beach. According to tradition in the 16 th Century, the Muslim saint with his disciples came to India from Baghdad and after staying in Bengal he came to Odisha. Bhubaneswar, Puri & Konark – 4 Days Itinerary

My mom is usually sceptical about driving on foreign lands. She prefers a chauffeur-driven vehicle to a self-driven one. However, this time, while planning my trip, when I asked her, she agreed on taking a Zoomcar. Surprising right! We were at Bhubaneswar to attend my friend’s wedding, another one indeed! Therefore, we decided to extend our visit for four more days to explore nearby cities.

Reaching Bhubaneswar

There are plenty of flights from Delhi to Bhubaneswar, which you can book as per your schedule. Those who stay in the eastern belt can also reach here via train or car.

Here’s how we managed to cover four cities in 4 days:

Day 1: bhubaneswar.

We started our day with an authentic Odia breakfast at my friend’s house. Post, which we headed to collect our Zoomcar, parked at the Yamaha Showroom in Kharabela Nagar. After spending half an hour completing all the formalities, we began our journey. We went to Dhauli, the famous Lingaraj Temple and Odisha State Museum. We ended our day gorging on street food at Unit I & II market. I would recommend having another day for the city to explore Nandankanan Zoological Park and Udayagiri-Khandagiri caves.

Day 2: Puri

Puri is a 1.5-hour drive from Bhubaneswar. We started at 9 a.m from Bhubaneswar, and it was a delight to drive on the Bhubaneswar-Puri Highway. As we reached closer to our hotel, the drive became scenic, with the Bay of Bengal to our left and the bustling city to our right. After check-in, we visited Swargadwar beach right opposite our hotel. We had maggie for lunch from a nearby shaft and headed for sightseeing. We visited the Jagannath Temple and explored the market next to the temple. Next, we went to Puri Beach, explored the beach market and ended our day watching a beautiful sunset at the Golden beach. We stopped by the Ethnic Village Restaurant at Mahodadhi Palace to try out the authentic Odia cuisine for dinner.

Tip: The State Handloom Emporium at Jagannath Temple parking is the best place to buy souvenirs.

Day 3: Chilika Lake , Satpada

Chilika Lake, the world’s second-largest brackish water lagoon, is merely 1.5 hours from Puri. There are many sightseeing spots at Chilika Lake. However, Satpada is closest to Puri and is the only place where you can spot Irrawaddy Dolphins. We started our journey at 8:30 a.m and reached the Chilika Lake jetty ticket counter at 10:00 a.m. They had various packages available from which we chose the 4-hour boat ride that covered the Dolphin sighting point and Sea mouth. Our first stop was the dolphin point, where we had three sightings. From there, it took 1.5 hours to reach the sea mouth. On our way, we saw many birds like seagulls, herons and stork. We spent half an hour exploring the Sea mouth and admiring its beauty. I had some fresh prawns before heading back to the jetty. On our way back, we saw ten sightings, which was a thrilling experience indeed!

We reached Puri at 4 p.m. Post which we explored the Lighthouse next to our hotel. It gave us a mesmerising 360-degree view of the beach city. In the evening, we explored the street food stalls at the beach market. For dinner, we headed to Sholo Ana Bengali to gorge on authentic Bengali food.

Tip: On your way to the Lake, locals selling boat rides at a cheaper cost might chase you. However, ignore them, as their boats don’t follow any safety measures. I recommend booking your boats from Government assigned stalls only.

Day 4: Konark

It was our last day in Odisha. We checked out at 9:30 a.m from our Hotel in Puri and headed to Konark. It was an hour-long drive through the Balukhand Wildlife Sanctuary. On our way, we stopped by the NuaNai Nature camp to see the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles. However, we couldn’t locate the breeding zone, as there was no one to guide us. We then headed to Ramachandi beach, which was our first spot for sightseeing in Konark. From where we went to Chandrabagha beach and Konark beach. We spent some time by the beach, sipping coconut water before heading to the Sun Temple, our last sight for the day. It is the most famous attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage site that attracts millions of tourists every year. We spent 1.5 hours admiring the brilliant architecture of the temple before heading back to Bhubaneswar.

On reaching Bhubaneswar, we dropped our Zoomcar at the same pick-up point. After which we booked our cab to the airport. We were hungry by the time we reached the airport, as we didn’t have lunch. The Bhubaneswar airport is tiny as compared to the Delhi Airport and had limited food outlets with limited options that were expensive. The counter on the first floor serves south Indian delights had a long queue. Therefore, we bought coffee and chicken roll from the outlet on the ground floor to curb our hunger.

Four days went by so quickly, and not even once we felt tired, bored or unsafe. The roads are beautiful to drive, people are jolly and helpful, and the weather is so pleasing that we felt like staying here forever.

P.S: The best time to visit Odisha is between November to March.

enjoying in puri sea beach:

After check in into the hotel, and taking rest for a couple of hours, Be ready to go to the beach. You leave the hotel from 10:30 to 11:00 and enjoy in the sea beach for 2-3 hour, If you go to the beach, you will see many tourists swimming and enjoying here.

From here the wave in the sea is very high so swim very carefully. And you will have so much fun here that once you in, you will not feel like getting back up. don’t go too deep into the sea, If possible, stay on the beach.

I want to give you a suggestion, in here taking too much bath is going to make a big difference to your skin tone. if you bathe more and become more dark,

visit jagannath temple:

at 1:00 to 1:30 you come back to the hotel. And after coming fresh in the hotel, you leave for Jagannath temple around 2:30.try this that you reach Jagannath temple within 2:00 to 2:30.Because at this time the flag of temple is changed, and it’s so amazing to see.

You can not enter inside Jagannath temple with all this shoe-slippers mobile, There is a big counter outside the temple where your shoe and mobile phone will be taken. You submit your phone, etc here, This very safe.

when you enter inside the temple, you will see many pundits(Pandas) who will follow you, be careful with those pundits, over there they will try hard to cheat you guys, If you want, you can get him worshipped, so they takes ₹ 200/300 extra on Prasad, this is most religious places to visit in Puri.

Niladri sea beach:

From 4:30 to 5:00, you will come out after visiting the temple. at this time you can eat something or you can try puri’s special street foods.

Puri’s street food is famous in india, if you are going there, then definitely try the street food there. The street food there is related to South India. like idli, medhu bada, dosha is most famous in puri. let’s talk about Niladri sea beach.

Friends, Niladri Beach is located at a distance of about 3 kilometers from Jagannath Temple. if you want, you can go on foot, but you have to walk a lot, so it is better that you book an auto from there.

There are mostly two types of trips, one is Nandankanan and the other is Chilika Lake, this is Puri one day tour package by luxury bus. A short distance from there, you will see many travel agencies near the beach. You can book both these tour packages from there.

You book both these tour packages on the first day at night. And it is very cheap, you will be able to travel for at least 12 hours in such AC bus for only 250/300 rupees. This is just for the bus fare, Travel guide and entry fees are charged separately. And that’s not too much Guide and entry fee for Nandankanan trip is around ₹400, water board charges for Chilika Lake trip is around ₹800.

In Chilika Lake trip, you are taken to Chilka directly by bus, there is some site scene, when you reach Chilika, you will see some board there, you can book a shared board and in ₹ 600 you will get the entire Chilika Lake from that board and if you are lucky you will also get to see dolphins.

At a distance of 11 km from Puri Bus Station, Raghurajpur is a heritage crafts village in Puri district of Odisha. Raghurajpur is known for its world famous Pattachitra paintings and is one of the must visit places in Puri. Raghurajpur was recognized as Odisha's first heritage craft village in 2000. The village is famous for its master Pattachitra painters and Gotipua dance troupes. The village is inhabited by artisans producing sheer poetry on pieces of treated cloth, dried palm leaf or paper. Pipli is a town of artisans famous for their colorful fabrics. The applique work of Pipili is probably most well-known handicraft in Puri and surrounding areas. The craft involves embroidering and stitching of small pieces of colored cloth with flowers, animals, village scene and traditional designs on to a larger base cloth. At a distance of 2.5 km from Puri Junction, Jagannath Temple is a sacred temple situated in the heart of Puri town in Orissa. It is the most revered pilgrimage site for Hindus as it is included in the pious Char Dham Yatra with Badrinath, Dwarka and Rameshwaram. This world famous temple is one of prime places to visit in Puri. The temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a form of Lord Vishnu and is one of the major Hindu Temples in India. 2 Narendra Tank / Narendra Pokhari

At a distance of 1 km from Jagannath Temple and 2.5 km from Puri Junction, Narendra Tank or Narendra Pokhari is a holy tank situated at Mauza Dandimala Sahi in Puri. This is one of the largest tanks in Orissa and also one of the must visit places in Puri. The tank was built in 15th century AD by Narendra Dev, who shouldered the responsibility of the kingdom with Purushottama. The tank is spread over a vast area, which features an island in the middle, housing a small temple called Chandana Mandapa which is connected to the southern bank with a bridge. This tank is considered holy and has a lot of small and big temples surrounding it. The water level of the tank is 10 feet below the present road level. The tank covers 16 ghats which provide an opportunity for the pilgrims to have a holy bath. The main ghat has a flight of steps made up of Khondalite. Also known as Chandana Pushkarini, this is the holy tank in which the famed Chandana Yatra of Lord Jagannath celebrated annually. .....

3 Gundicha Temple

At a distance of 1.5 km from Puri Junction and 3 km from Sri Jagannath Temple, Gundicha Temple is one of the most renowned Hindu temples in Puri. Gundicha Temple is a common place of the festivities during the annual Ratha Yatra and is also one of the most famous places to visit in Puri. The Gundicha Ghar was built by the Gundicha Maharani, the queen of King Indradyumna the founder of the 1st Jagannath Temple. The temple is located right next to the Jagannath Temple and is popularly referred to as His aunt's house because when the Rath Yatra festival takes place, Lord Jagannath is shifted to the Gundicha Temple for seven days. It is also known as Garden House of Lord Jagannath as it is located in the middle of a beautiful garden. Gundicha Temple has some interesting legends related to it. 4 Sudarshan Craft Museum

At a distance of 2 km from Puri Junction, Sudarshan Craft Museum is located at station road in Puri. It is one of the best places to visit in Puri for art lovers. The Sudarshan Craft Museum was started in the year 1977 by Shri Sudarhsan Sahoo. The museum exhibits great collection of artistic works done by Sudarshan Sahoo like carvings in wood, stone and fiber glass, handicraft items and also fine paintings. Within the premises of museum, one can witness a Buddhist temple built in a Japanese style, a library and a workshop. Known for its fine white sands and crystal clear waters, Puri Beach is quite famous for its peaceful and calm surroundings. Cowboys NFL Draft grades 2024: Dallas uses nearly every pick to revamp offensive line, front seven

A full list of dallas' eight draft picks.

FRISCO, Texas -- If the Dallas Cowboys are going to make a fourth consecutive playoff trip next season, they needed to ace the 2024 NFL Draft . 

They lost eight of their own players in free agency, tied for the third most in one offseason in Cowboys history. Five of those losses were starters: running back Tony Pollard ( Tennessee Titans ), center Tyler Biadasz ( Washington Commanders ), left tackle Tyron Smith ( New York Jets ), defensive end Dorance Armstrong (Washington Commanders) and defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins ( Seattle Seahawks ). 

Those losses occurred because Dallas wasn't able to re-up quarterback Dak Prescott ($55.1 million cap hit in final year of contract), who led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes in 2023, and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb ($17.991 million cap hit in final year of contract), who led the NFL with 135 catches in 2023, to long-term extensions prior to free agency. Doing so would have enabled the Cowboys to spread those cap hits out more evenly across future seasons. They have signed two external free agents this offseason: 32-year-old Pro Bowl linebacker Eric Kendricks (one year, $3 million contract) and 28-year-old journeyman running back Royce Freeman . 

"We feel great about what we've been in free agency. All in. All in. All in," Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. "We're all in with these young guys. We're all in with this draft. We're all in with knowing that you have to go. We've had adjustments. ... Again, without sounding defensive at all, the youth, the young guys coming in here and playing are incrementally viable. We're counting on them and we've had that happen for us."  

After being outmuscled in their 48-32 playoff loss against the Green Bay Packers, the Cowboys focused on getting stronger along their offensive line and in their front seven. Their first four picks addressed those areas, and Dallas finished the draft with linemen on both sides of the ball. The mission was to get "bigger and stronger." The Cowboys did just that.

Below is a look at every single pick the Cowboys made along with a grade for each.   

Cowboys select Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton at No. 29

Dallas essentially held up a blinking, neon sign at its pre-draft press conference on Tuesday when talking about their biggest draft need: offensive line. After eight-time Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith departed for the New York Jets and Pro Bowl center Tyler Biadasz followed Dan Quinn to the Washington Commanders in free agency, the Cowboys had holes at center and either left guard or left tackle, depending on where they decide to play 2023 Pro Bowl left guard Tyler Smith , a college left tackle at Tulsa, going forward. 

"I think in general, if you look at attrition, if you talk about where it hits us the hardest, it's the guys we lost in the offensive line," Cowboys COO and executive VP Stephen Jones said Tuesday.  

Smith revealed he feels most  comfortable at left guard coming off the Pro Bowl nod, but he is amicable to playing left tackle . Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy accidentally revealed that he sees Smith's best position as left guard. 

"Now, where Tyler would line up, it would probably be at guard ... or maybe tackle," McCarthy said laughing. 

Now that the Cowboys selected Oklahoma's Tyler Guyton, an offensive tackle who didn't allow a sack on 335 pass-blocking snaps in 2023, Smith remains at left guard. Guyton, who stands at 6-foot-8 while weighing 322 pounds, possesses plenty of athletic gifts. His 34 1/8-inch arms and 82 1/4-inch wingspan that he measured at the NFL Scouting Combine are ideal attributes for an NFL offensive tackle. Guyton was CBS Sports' seventh-ranked offensive tackle and 36th-ranked overall player in this draft. 

Guyton is quick on his feet and well-balanced in pass protection. The top element of his game is how he uses his hands like a boxer, striking and counter-punching oncoming pass rushers. He also has fluidity with his hips, which allows him to bend and recover well in pass protection. Guyton could improve his efficiency with his hands, and his leverage could improve if he cut down on the amount of snaps in which he stood up too upright. Thirteen of his 15 college starts came at right tackle, so Dallas will need to work on him a lot about transitioning to left tackle. However, Guyton was a blindside protector as a Sooner as Oklahoma's 2023 starting quarterback, Dillon Gabriel, was left-handed. 

Ultimately, Dallas gets what it wanted: an athletic tackle it can replace Tyron Smith with, and Tyler Smith gets to remain at left guard where he and McCarthy feel he can play his best. Mission accomplished,  even with the trade back . 

Prisco grade: B

"This is a move that has been predicted by a lot of people. He played right tackle in college, but can move to the left side. This fills a major need."

Cowboys select Western Michigan edge rusher Marshawn Kneeland at No. 56

Marshawn Kneeland, a fifth-year senior who stands at 6 feet, 3 inches while weighing 267 pounds, comes in with the traits (34 1/4-inch arms and a 4.75 40-yard dash) to provide more to juice to a Cowboys' pass rush that led the NFL in quarterback pressure rate last season (45%).

Kneeland possesses a prototypical NFL edge rusher build, utilizing the long wing span and burst off the line of scrimmage to achieve a leverage advantage over offensive linemen. He also has a strong motor, and the football IQ to diagnose reads in the run game. 

The cons are his quickness when countering a blocker's attempt to slow him down is much slower than his initial jump off the line of scrimmage, and he can get lost inside. Not ever having five sacks in a single college football season, 4.5 was his career high, is a little concerning, but he faced regular double teams on Western Michigan. That won't be the case for him anymore playing alongside three-time All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons and four-time Pro Bowl edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence. While five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore isn't on the team anymore and Pro Bowl corner Trevon Diggs is coming off a torn ACL, adding more muscle to their defensive front will take some of the burden off of their secondary. 

Trapasso grade: B-

"Big-time tester who might be just scratching the surface of how good he can be around the corner. Doesn't quite play to his workout but works the edges of OTs very well. Shows glimpses of countering ability. Just didn't ever dominate in the MAC. Roll of the dice."  

Cowboys select Kansas State OL Cooper Beebe at No. 73

Dallas turned its trade back five spots in the first round on Thursday from 24 to 29 with the Detroit Lions into two new offensive linemen: Oklahoma offensive tackle Tyler Guyton (29th) and Kansas State interior offensive lineman Cooper Beebe.

Beebe, a 2023 consensus All-American and back-to-back Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year (2022, 2023), appears to be the long-term replacement for 33-year-old, nine-time Pro Bowl right guard Zack Martin, who is entering the final year of his contract in 2024. Beebe earned First-Team All-Big 12 selections in each of the last three seasons because he is an absolute menace off the line of scrimmage. His burst off the snap is superb as is his handwork. Beebe consistently pancakes opposing lineman into the turf, barreling ahead in the run game like a freight train, forcing others to adapt to his incoming presence. Beebe was mostly a guard in college, but perhaps Mike McCarthy moves him to center for a season in 2024 to replace the departed Tyler Biadasz.  

Their projected 2024 offensive line now looks like this: Tyler Guyton at left tackle, Tyler Smith at left guard, Cooper Beebe at center, Zack Martin at right guard and Terence Steele at right tackle. That's a front five that has as much upside as any in the entire NFL. 

Trapasso grade:  B+  

"The reconstruction of the OL continues in Dallas. Older, super-experienced guard-only who's rarely out of position. Athletic limitations are obvious. Low center of gravity gives him quality anchor. Smart pick here despite minimal upside. High floor."

Cowboys select Notre Dame LB Marist Liufau at No. 87

With the retirement of Pro Bowl linebacker Leighton Vander Esch plus 2023 third-round pick linebacker DeMarvion Overshown coming off a torn ACL he suffered in training camp last season, the Cowboys needed to add depth to their linebacker corps. They did so first by signing 32-year-old Pro Bowl linebacker Eric Kendricks in free agency. They add another player in Day 2 by choosing Notre Dame's Marist Liufau in the third round.

Liufau is built like a modern-day NFL inside linebacker at 6-2, 234 pounds and recorded a 4.64 40-yard dash with 34 1/4-inch arms. He has good burst with his first step, and he can close ground quickly. Liufau plays with an aggressive, thumping mentality, something the Cowboys could use in their front seven. He is solid when blitzing and is willing to put his body on the line to make a play. Liufau makes good use of his hands on tight ends in press man coverage off the line of scrimmage. 

He can sometimes overrun plays, and he could do a better job wrapping up to tackle instead of pritorizing the big hit. Jerry Jones is trusting new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer to coach Liufau up to sand off his rough edges. He took some advice from his cousin, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua, about how to adjust to NFL life. Not bad a person to have as a sounding board in the NFL's rookie catches (105) and receiving yards record holder (1,486).

Trapasso grade: C+

"Hair-on-fire off-ball LB who gets the expected results with that style. Many missed tackles. Many highlight-reel hits. Showed he can cover underneath. Plays faster than his workout. More build-up speed than pure burst. Ball skills are lacking and can be easily baited by play-action. Plus blitzer. Fun add here but overaggression hurts him at times." 

Cowboys select Wake Forest CB Caelen Carson at No. 174

Caelen Carson possesses decent NFL cornerback measurables (6 feet tall while weighing 199 pounds with 31 3/8" arm length), and the fluidity in his hips allows him to remain stride for stride in coverage. Carson does well surveying route progressions in zone coverage and has the anticipatory skills to deflect passes (29 passes defended, including eight in 2023). 

Carson saw a lot of time as an inside corner, making him an ideal player to learn from Jourdan Lewis as a rookie. Only having three career collegiate interceptions and none since his sophomore year in 2021 is a slight concern. He missed the Senior Bowl with a foot injury, but he should be a full offseason participant. If he can improve on his ball skills and be a little more consistent in coverage, he can play either inside or outside corner with some upside as a potential starter down the road. 

Trapasso grade:  B+

"Smaller outside CB with just enough quicks to scoot inside if he needs to. Instincts are there. Quicker than fast. And some stiffness appears on film when getting out of his backpedal to change directions. Sound tackler. Not a standout trait type but does everything well." 

Cowboys select Southeast Missouri State WR Ryan Flournoy at No. 216

Southeast Missouri State wide receiver Ryan Flournoy, a two-time Ohio Valley Conference first team selection, dominated at the NFL Scouting Combine, registering a 4.44 40-yard dash with a vertical jump of 39.5 inches and an 11-foot broad jump while standing at 6'1, 202 pounds. 

Flournoy is a prototypical outside receiver with strong physical traits. He's a downfield playmaker, but it can take him a little time to accelerate down the sideline. Flournoy is a long strider, and he is a yards-after-catch threat because defensive backs need to really smack him on the catch to bring him down on their first attempt. He won't win right away off the line of scrimmage because he can struggle to drop his hips and explode out of his breaks. Flournoy is athletic enough to evolve those skillsets in the NFL, and he is adept at making catches away from his body. He could start out as deep ball receiver and look to build out his route tree from there. 

Trapasso grade:  A

"Big, chiseled vertical threat who makes it a nightmare for DBs to corral him once he gets the ball in his hands. While he's not incredibly sudden, he is a horse in space. Back-shoulder skill is there. Love this pick."

Cowboys select Louisiana OT Nathan Thomas at No. 233

Nathan Thomas is built like a prototypical offensive tackle, standing at 6-foot-5 while weighing 332 pounds. His 33 3/4-inch arms allow him to redirect defenders with his strength and upper-body leverage. Thomas moves well in zone-based run concepts. He can be late at times to anchor in pass protection, but his natural strength is such that he can negate that issue with his own power. Thomas could do a better job of staying under control when out in space in the run game, and he could improve at his blocking pursuit in the second level of the defense. Thomas exclusively played left tackle in college, so he doesn't have interior experience at the college level. 

Thomas' technique needs refinement, but his agility and natural strength helps him mitigate his fundamental issues. The pure power he plays with may translate better at guard than tackle if Thomas doesn't correct his technique. 

"No-nonsense power blocker with serious girth and starting caliber length to stay at OT in the NFL," Trapasso said. "Not a high-level athlete but wins with initial quicks and a deft utilization of his length to get into DLs in a flash. Recovery want-to is there. One of my favorite blockers in the class."

Cowboys select Auburn DT Justin Rogers at No. 244

Justin Rogers plays defensive tackle like you would like someone who stands at 6 feet, two-and-a-half inches while weighing 330 pounds: BIG. Opposing offensive linemen struggle with moving him out of their ball carrier's way once he anchors down at his spot. Rogers doesn't have the best lateral movement, but he can move other people up front with ease. He isn't the longest player (32 3/4-inch arms), but Rogers is wide enough to be a stopper against the run on early downs. 

Trapasso grade: C

"Classic block-eating nose tackle," Trapasso said. "Knows how to handle doubles and will occasionally make a play against the run. Lacks the burst, length, or hand work to win routinely up the field."

Detroit has multiple public transportation options to get around downtown. The city has a streetcar , an elevated rail system , bike share , and bus system to get you where you need to go.

These include:

• The   Detroit People Mover , which will operate 24 hours a day from 7 a.m. April 25 through midnight April 28.
• The  QLINE   along Woodward Avenue, which will run from 8 a.m. to midnight April 25 through April 27. The stops include Harper Ave., 116 Lothrop St., 6540 Cass Ave., John R & Piquette and 6230 John R St.  
• Bus service: SMART will have park-and-ride services from various points in metro Detroit, including Great Lakes Crossing, several Meijer store locations and Oakland County Community College. It also has its FAST service on Gratiot, Woodward and Michigan Avenue. DDOT services will operate with modified downtown routes because of road closures.
• Shuttles and drop-offs: There will be designated shuttle and ride-share drop-off points throughout downtown on Woodward, Jefferson and Fort Street. Detroit Air Xpress, or DAX, is a nonstop coach bus service connecting downtown Detroit to Detroit Metro Airport, and  D2A2  is an express coach bus that connects downtown Detroit to downtown Ann Arbor.

Detroit parking for 2024 NFL draft

If you decide to drive  downtown , make a plan and prearrange parking . Many off-street lots and garages are booked, and street parking will be limited or restricted in the area. Parking regulations will be enforced; vehicles may be towed. Those planning to park downtown are encouraged to arrive by 10 a.m. You may find off-street parking options on the Park Detroit app or on Park Whiz.

You can pay for metered parking through Park Detroit's website or app. There are also options for private parking throughout the city.

Detroit road closures for 2024 NFL draft

The City of Detroit is conducting six phases of road closures leading up the 2024 NFL draft and during it. It started March 29 and will go through May 7. Be mindful of these closures as you're driving downtown.

Security, bag policy at the 2024 NFL draft

Detroit police say they've got a safety plan in place that includes increased police presence downtown, weapon detectors and video monitoring .

Detroit police have partnered with the NFL and local businesses on the security plan, as well as state and federal law enforcement, according to 3rd Precinct Cmdr. Matthew Fulgenzi.

The NFL will have weapon detectors installed that attendees must walk through at the gates of the event, which will take place at Cadillac Square, Campus Martius, Hart Plaza and a portion of Woodward Avenue. The NFL has a clear bag policy to enter the draft area, Fulgenzi said.

2024 NFL draft schedule of events, parties

2024 NFL draft day activities are from noon to 10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, events go from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Use the NFL OnePass app to find more on what's planned and when throughout the NFL draft blueprint.

Activities include a Pro Football Hall of Fame exhibit and an autograph signing opportunity with current and former NFL players, as well as a 40-yard dash, vertical jump, deep throw accuracy challenges, and more. Automatic Refunds and No More Hidden Fees: D.O.T. Sets New Rules for Airlines

The Transportation Department issued new requirements on refunds when flights are canceled or delayed and on revealing “junk” fees before booking. Here’s what passengers can expect.

The Transportation Department on Wednesday announced new rules taking aim at two of the most difficult and annoying issues in air travel: obtaining refunds and encountering surprise fees late in the booking process.

“Passengers deserve to know upfront what costs they are facing and should get their money back when an airline owes them — without having to ask,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in a statement, adding that the changes would not only save passengers “time and money,” but also prevent headaches.

The department’s new rules, Mr. Buttigieg said, will hold airlines to clear and consistent standards when they cancel, delay or substantially change flights, and require automatic refunds to be issued within weeks. They will also require them to reveal all fees before a ticket is purchased.

Airlines for America , a trade group representing the country’s largest air carriers, said in a statement that its airlines “abide by and frequently exceed” D.O.T. consumer protection regulations.

Passenger advocates welcomed the new steps.

Tomasz Pawliszyn, the chief executive of AirHelp, a Berlin-based company that assists passengers with airline claims, called it a “massive step forward and huge improvement in consumer rights and protection” that brings the United States closer to global standards in passenger rights.

Here’s what we know about the D.O.T.’s new rules, which will begin to go into effect in October.

There’s now one definition for a “significant” delay.

Until now, airlines have been allowed to set their own definition for a “significant” delay and compensation has varied by carrier . Now, according to the D.O.T., there will be one standard: when departure or arrival is delayed by three hours for domestic flights and six hours for international flights.

Passengers will get prompt refunds for cancellations or significant changes for flights and delayed bags, for any reason.

When things go wrong, getting compensation from an airline has often required establishing a cumbersome paper trail or spending untold hours on the phone. Under the new rules, refunds will be automatic, without passengers having to request them. Refunds will be made in full, excepting the value of any transportation already used. Airlines and ticket agents must provide refunds in the original form of payment, whether by cash, credit card or airline miles. Refunds are due within seven days for credit card purchases and within 20 days for other payments.

Passengers with other flight disruptions, such as being downgraded to a lower service class, are also entitled to refunds.

The list of significant changes for which passengers can get their money back also includes: departure or arrival from an airport different from the one booked; connections at different airports or flights on planes that are less accessible to a person with a disability; an increase in the number of scheduled connections. Also, passengers who pay for services like Wi-Fi or seat selection that are then unavailable will be refunded any fees.

Airlines must give travel vouchers or credits to ticketed passengers unable to fly because of government restrictions or a doctor’s orders.

The vouchers or credits will be transferable and can be used for at least five years after the date they were issued.

Fees for checked baggage and modifying a reservation must be disclosed upfront.

Airlines and ticket agents are now required to display any extra fees for things like checking bags or seat selection clearly and individually before a ticket purchase. They will also need to outline the airline’s policies on baggage, cancellations and changing flights before a customer purchases a ticket.

The rules, which apply to all flights on domestic airlines and flights to and from the United States operated by foreign airlines, have varying start dates.

For example, automatic refunds must be instituted by the airlines within six months. But carriers have a year before they’re required to issue travel vouchers and credits for passengers advised by a medical professional not to fly.
