Princess Cruises is making up for time lost during the coronavirus pandemic with a world cruise that will sail to dozens of countries across six continents in 2024, the company shared with Travel + Leisure this week.

Bookings for the cruise, which will set sail on the Island Princess from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 4, 2024, go on sale starting Thursday. After leaving Florida, travelers will embark on a 111-day cruise to 51 destinations across 27 countries, including visiting 25 UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the Acropolis in Athens and the port fortress of Cartagena .

Travelers can also choose to board in Los Angeles on Jan. 18, 2024.

"Embarking on a Princess World Cruise to experience the globe's marquis ports and hidden gems, where all the planning is done by the Princess destination experts, easily turns adventurous world travel dreams into a reality," Deanna Austin, Princess Cruises chief commercial officer, said in a statement provided to T+L.

The world cruise will traverse more than 33,000 nautical miles and cross the Equator twice over the course of its journey, offering guests late-night visits in several destinations, including Abu Dhabi , Auckland , and Sydney .

Rates for the 2024 world cruise start at just over $21,000 per person, according to the cruise line. Those who book by Jan. 31, 2022, will also receive perks like a premier beverage package, unlimited Wi-Fi , and full daily gratuities.

The Island Princess can accommodate up to 2,200 guests and features a casino, a basketball court, and several specialty dining experiences, including a chef's table and breakfast served right on guests' stateroom balconies.

Princess Cruises currently requires all guests to be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before boarding through at least Feb. 28, 2022. Guests sailing out of the U.S. must also show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test taken within two days of embarkation.

Princess isn't the only cruise line planning over-the-top world cruises. Last month, MSC Cruises said it would operate two different world cruises in 2023, and Royal Caribbean said it will launch its Ultimate World Cruise to all seven continents over 274 nights in December 2023.

Princess Cruises' 111-day around-the-world cruise sets sail for 2020

If you have $20,000+ to spare, this cruise might be right for you.

Princess Cruises is kicking off its 111-day around-the-world voyage on Monday with about 670 guests and 375 crew members aboard the company's 592-foot Pacific Princess.

THE CLEANEST AND DIRTIEST CRUISE SHIPS, ACCORDING TO THE CDC

The completely sold-out four-month venture sets sail Monday at 6 p.m. PST from Port of Los Angeles and will return on May 11.

The Pacific Princess will tour 38 ports in 26 countries on five continents – covering 34,287 nautical miles during the cruise's lengthy trip. It will be the first time Princess Cruises will make stops at Kaikoura, New Zealand; Praslin, Seychelles Islands; Mayotte Island, French protectorate and Zanzibar, Tanzania during its world cruise, according to a press release .

THE BEST TIME TO BOOK A CRUISE IS NOW, HERE’S WHY

To maximize time for passengers, the Pacific Princess will make 12 late-night stays to maximize time in popular destinations such as Melbourne, Australia; Papeete, Tahiti and Phuket, Thailand. There will also be an overnight port in Cape Town, South Africa. A total of 20 UNESCO World Heritage Sites will be toured throughout the trip.

Unlike the much longer 245-day Ultimate World Cruise by Viking Cruises that costs a whopping $92,990 per person , the 2020 world cruise by Princess Cruises is more affordable at a starting price of $22,999 per person – although it requires passengers to be OK with getting 134 days fewer at sea.

THIS MAY BE WORLD'S LONGEST CRUISE, AND IT'LL COST A BOATLOAD

Previous guests of Princess Cruises get to save up to $1,000 per person, according to the company's release.

"We've been offering World Cruises since 1998 and our team of destination experts knows how to create the best worldwide itineraries like no other in the cruise industry," said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. "Our Captain, officers and crew regularly hear from guests the impact the World Cruise has on them, as they share their appreciation for taking them to places they never in a million years thought they would experience."

In total, there will be 67 at sea days during the 2020 world cruise, however, the Pacific Princess is outfitted with 11 decks that have much to offer, including seven dining areas, two lounges, three bars, one casino and pool as well as a fitness center and spa.

BEST CRUISE LINE RANKINGS: REPORT

For cruisers that missed out on booking this globetrotting trip, Princess Cruises is currently booking for its 2021 world cruise – which will debut its 965-foot and 15-deck Island Princess. The larger vessel can hold up to 2,200 guests and 900 crew members, and it even has a wedding chapel on board in case any passengers decide to get hitched during their stay.

Both coasts are covered for the next New Year, with an Island Princess sailing from Fort Lauderdale on Jan. 3 and Los Angeles on Jan. 17. Princess Cruises' website says an interior room starts at $20,999 per person.

Screenshots obtained by FOX Business revealed that booking a room of any type for a single person is subject to double occupancy charges, so it would be best to go with at least one other person.

Princess Cruises' Island Princess will also improve travel time for 2021 world cruise passengers with its scheduled visits to 48 ports in 32 countries and a total of 56 days at sea.

Already planning to see the next solar eclipse in 2026? What travelers need to know.

Umbraphiles feeling the post-eclipse blues should start checking the expiration date on their passports.

The next total solar eclipse is set to happen on Aug. 12, 2026, over Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia and a small part of Portugal, according to NASA .

In North America, only a partial eclipse will be visible, so if April’s event made you an eclipse chaser and you want to see totality, you’ll need to head overseas.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Here’s what you’ll need to know before packing your bags:

Do you need a passport or visa for the best destination?

The path of totality for the 2026 eclipse mostly goes through places Americans can travel visa-free with their passport, so long as they’re planning to stay for less than 90 days.

Spain, Portugal, Iceland and Greenland all allow visa-free tourist travel for U.S. passport holders.

Spain, Portugal and Iceland are also members of the Schengen Area, which allows for visa-free travel in much of Europe, meaning if you decide to make a multi-country trip out of your eclipse adventure, you won’t need to clear customs if you’re coming from much of the rest of Europe, either.

One major change for travelers to Europe from the U.S., however, is that electronic preauthorization will become a requirement beginning in mid-2025. The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) requirement will apply to all four open countries in the path of totality.

Depending on the state of the Ukraine war, travel to Russia may or may not be an option for most Americans by 2026, so it’s unclear what the paperwork requirements will be by then.

Is it better to see it from the beach?

Beaches can be a great place to see the eclipse because there are few natural obstacles blocking observers’ views of the sky. The 2026 path of totality passes over beaches on Spain’s northern and southeastern coasts, as well as over islands in the Mediterranean Sea including Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. The eclipse will also pass over coastal areas in Greenland and Iceland, according to the National Solar Observatory .

Cruising Altitude: What it was like to see the eclipse from a plane

Will there be eclipse cruises or flights?

Almost certainly, although most operators have not announced specific plans yet.

Cruise lines will also offer more viewing opportunities. Princess Cruises “has created a bespoke itinerary aboard Sky Princess to position the ship near Spain on that date,” according to a spokesperson for the line. The cruise will open for bookings on Princess’s website on May 23.

Cunard Line has sailings on its Queen Mary 2 , Queen Victoria and Queen Anne vessels that will put passengers in prime spots to watch .

'The ship can move': Why you should watch next solar eclipses from a cruise ship

Holland America Line is also planning multiple sailings around the event, though details are still to be announced. “Guests have reacted positively to our 2024 eclipse cruises and with the next full eclipse in 2026 we plan to have three sailings in Europe that will align with the path of the eclipse,” Paul Grigsby, the line's vice president of Deployment & Itinerary Planning, previously told USA TODAY in an email.
