Needs major updating.

I’ve just noticed this app was last updated 2 years ago. Going into it, it appears to be an app version of the website. No, I didn’t explore the app; the website is unreliable enough as it is. What it needs is to list our tickets for the various travel trains after we’ve purchased them online or via phone; just like Ticketek and Eventbrite. There might be other things it could do with but I can’t think of them. This app has so much potential that’s not being taken advantage of.

Just a shell

After issues with Translink app, I saw that QR had their own app. It’s barely a shell of an app. Clicking on Journey Plan says it will open a browser window, which brings up a random page “ TransLink GTFS Real-Time Feed”

This does nothing that you can't do better already. Less. It doesn't give you timetables, which you can find online in a browser. It sends you to your browser for the trip planner. It tells you where train stations are, just like your maps app, but a maps app will also tell you how to get there from where you are, and everything else that's around it. It will tell you how to report broken fittings and equipment, though. Such as this app. Downloaded and deleted again within minutes.

Engineering works will take place this weekend with service alterations in place on Galway/Westport evening services on Saturday 13th April and DART services on Sunday 14th April. Customers are advised to check our  Journey Planner prior to travel.

What are the conditions of travel?

Customers who are already in possession of or purchasing on the day of travel a valid standard class ticket(s) such as Family Ticket, Day Return, Open Return, Weekly, Monthly, Annual or InterRail ticket can book on their chosen service by selecting the 'Reservation Only' option in the Passenger selection box. Customers are advised there is limited availability for seat only bookings online.

Where can I buy this ticket? 

• You can purchase the ticket  above using our journey planner . Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.

• Free Travel/DSFA Pass Holders

Customers who hold a  Free Travel / DSFA Pass  can book on their chosen service by selecting the  'Free Travel Pass'  option in the Passenger selection box. Customers are advised there is limited availability for Free Travel bookings online.

• Please see our handy guide on how to book a 'Free Travel Pass' option .
• You can purchase the ticket  above using our Journey Planner . Tickets can only be purchased up to 90 days in advance.
• An allocation of bookings on all InterCity services can be reserved online without a fee for 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders'. When this allocation is fully booked, all remaining seats can be reserved by 'Free Travel Pass or valid ticket holders' for €2.50 per journey.

Is an option for customers who are in possession of Free Travel Pass, a valid standard class ticket(s), seasonal ticket(s), Taxsaver ticket(s) or InterRail to book onto a train in standard class. Guide to QR Tickets

In order to provide more options to our customers, QR Tickets are now available from both the Booking Office and on tickets purchased online.

Below you will find further information on how to use your QR Ticket when travelling on Iarnród Éireann services. 

Why QR Tickets?

• No more queueing at Ticket Vending Machines. Customers can now save time by simply downloading their ticket to their mobile device. 
• Sustainability - We are transforming our business to minimise impacts on and maximise benefits to the environment. QR Tickets will help us achieve our environmental sustainability goals. For more information please see our Sustainability page .  
• Contactless - QR code technology is contactless and reduces physical touchpoints for customers validating their rail tickets.

Using Your QR Ticket

• The QR Ticket must be presented to the glass QR scanner at the top of the validator for the gate to open
• The gates with the scanner will also be clearly identified in blue
• Please ensure that the correct QR code is presented for the relevant journey
• Please do not dispose of your ticket until your journey is completed.
• If you are in a location with no QR scanner, please present the ticket to a member of staff at the barrier who will open the gate once you have provided your valid ticket

QR Ticketing Online

QR Tickets are now available in PDF format for online tickets purchased on the Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail website.

Future developments will see the implementation of an 'Add to Wallet' feature for customers to download their QR Ticket to their mobile wallet app.

In the meantime, customers should download the PDF (which includes their QR Ticket) to their mobile device, or print the PDF ticket at home in advance of travel.

You will see the fulfillment option to select a QR Ticket via the 'Download QR Ticket(s)' button on the customer details page when making your online booking. 

Please note:

• If presenting your QR Ticket using your mobile device, please ensure the screen brightness is set to 100 percent, and that the QR code is clearly visible on screen. 
• The original barcode must be presented to the gate. Please do not screenshot your QR code.
• A separate QR Ticket is issued per passenger for each individual leg of the journey.  
• QR Tickets which have been validated ie scanned at a validator in a station or by a staff member onboard a service cannot be amended or cancelled.
