Helen Fensom enjoyoyed an amazing 15 nights on board the luxury of Regent's Seven Seas Voyager, sailing from Copenhagen to Reykjavik visiting Orkney, the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland. Read her Seven Seas Voyager review below.

My partner and I embarked in Copenhagen, sailing straight out across the North Sea to Scotland and the port of Kirkwall. A morning tour - included with Regent - took us out to neighbouring smaller islands, our guide telling stories of history as we went. The beaches are beautiful and lined with the postcard-perfect villages all of which were very welcoming for us to have a wonder around.

We had a free afternoon to explore so we used the included cruise shuttle to take us to the centre of Kirkwall; local shops and treats awaited, including a try of the local famous Orkney Fudge!

Our next port of call was Torshavn, Faroe Islands - part of Denmark; this was a real highlight for me as had always been on my bucket list. We enjoyed a morning wonder around the large city centre and then in the afternoon took an included trip via an underwater tunnel to a remote island, which we explored for a few hours.

I loved the little wooden houses with grass-covered roofs, surrounded by waterfalls and lush green landscapes - not forgetting birdlife that was on show all the time! Then, we enjoyed a day relaxing on board as we cruised the Norwegian Sea, heading towards Iceland. We enjoyed the outdoor deck space playing shuffleboard and thought we best walk off lunch using the upper deck walking/jogging track; I never get tired of just looking out to sea!

We then arrived in Iceland for the first of two consecutive ports, the first being Akureyri on the North Coast. We enjoyed a morning excursion with Regent to visit the main attraction in the area, Godafoss Waterfall. It is one of the most visited waterfalls in Iceland and means "fall of the gods". The falls are fed by meltwater from high glaciers and runs across a lava field which is said to be over 7,000 years old.

After a great day we had dinner in the French restaurant on board, Chartreuse. This is one of two speciality dining options on board which are strictly by reservation only; it's a small and intimate venue and we were treated to some of the best French cuisine - including escargot of course!

The second port of call in Iceland was Isafjordur, a smaller town which we wondered around in for an hour or so. We then enjoyed an afternoon speedboat ride over to Vigur Island (Bird Island) for the most incredible up close sightings of Atlantic puffins.

Why Regent?

Our Why Regent brochure contains everything you need to know about this ultra-luxury cruise line, including our favourite suites, dining options on board, some of our favourite itineraries for 2024 and 2025 and much more.

We were also lucky enough to spot a couple of whales on the ride over; their waterspout rising high out of the water with the backdrop of snow-covered mountains was something I will never forget.

Iceland certainly is a great cruise destination for nature and wildlife lovers, along with varied scenery and history - their main source of income is from the ocean and we were always reminded of this, seeing salmon farms in abundance.

Then for a treat I was not expecting, we enjoyed six hours of daytime sailing through the Prince Kristian Fjord, Southern Greenland, named in honour of the prince, later king Christian VIII of Denmark. We wrapped up warm, camera in hand - and then just took it all in.

With every turn of the ship navigating its way around the bends in the fjord came another spectacular sight, including that of Kangerluk Glacier. Seven Seas Voyager is of a small enough size that she could sail into the fjord and then slowly turn around so all of the ship could enjoy the splendour of the active glacier.

After lunch with a view in the main dining restaurant Compass Rose, we sailed out of the sound into thick sea mist and fog. Unfortunately for us, Mother Nature was no longer on our side - and this fog did not clear for the next two days, resulting in the cancellation of our two tender ports in Greenland,

We were treated to a short visit to the capital city Nuuk as we were berthed so I can at least say that I stepped foot onto Greenland - not many people I know can say the same!

Our last of couple of days on board were spent relaxing, listening to onboard lecture speakers, enjoying cooking demonstrations, galley tours and various other pastimes on offer.

Sea days are perfect to really unwind, chat with new friends and totally switch off. There is a luxury spa onboard along with gym and fitness room if you want to be kept occupied in that way too!

We arrived in the late afternoon into Reykjavik, our final port of call, with just enough time to squeeze in a few hours of whale watching before our transfer to the airport to fly home.

The Faroes are a chain of 18 islands midway between Great Britain and Iceland. Sheer cliffs and waterfalls carve Streymoy, the largest of the islands, where the capital of Torshavn is located. Visit the world's oldest, still-active parliament or shop for woolen sweaters in Faroese design.

There’s a New Regent Seven Seas Ship Coming in 2026 — and It’s the First in Its Class

Introducing the Seven Seas Prestige.

regent cruises faroe islands

Courtesy of Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Luxury cruise line Regent Seven Seas Cruises will debut a brand-new ship and ship class in 2026: the Seven Seas Prestige .

The new ship will hold up to 850 guests on board and will be the first new ship class for the company in 10 years, Regent shared with Travel + Leisure .

“This is a truly historic moment for Regent Seven Seas Cruises, as we name the next ship to join The World’s Most Luxurious Fleet as Seven Seas Prestige and reveal her sleek exterior design,” Andrea DeMarco, the president of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, said in a statement shared with T+L. “Seven Seas Prestige, debuting in 2026, continues our legacy of revolutionizing ultra luxury travel as she will transcend luxury in every way. This incredible new ship will be the epitome of timeless elegance, exemplifying Regent’s commitment to excellence which is reflected in every aspect of her elevated design and exuding an ambiance of sophistication and refinement.”

When it launches, the Seven Seas Prestige will feature brand new stateroom categories and a reimagined Regent Suite (the largest and most luxurious option Regent offers). The new ship will also include new dining experiences, but Regent said details on those were not immediately available.

The Seven Seas Prestige will be the first of two Prestige-Class ships. The second in the series is expected to launch in 2029.

The new class of ships comes after Regent launched several Explorer-class ships in 2016, in 2020, and in 2023. The company’s most recent ship, the Seven Seas Grandeur , features an impressive 1,600-piece art collection with multiple Picassos and the first-ever Fabergé Egg to be permanently installed at sea. Currently, Regent boasts six ships in its fleet.

Regent offers all-inclusive trips with cruise fares complete with perks like free unlimited shore excursions, free valet laundry, included gratuities, and more. This year, the company introduced new fare options , allowing passengers to pick an all-inclusive cruise-only fare or an “Ultimate All-Inclusive Fare,” which also includes roundtrip flights and a private chauffeur service. The new fare options are available for travelers who book new reservations on or after July 1.

The 'new Iceland' is a hiker's paradise — and you can now fly there from London Gatwick

F amous for its hot springs, the world’s first-known geyser and its proximity to the Northern Lights , Iceland is a popular travel bucket list destination.

However, it’s also renowned for its extortionate prices and relatively high tourism rates, receiving a record-breaking 2.2 million visitors in 2023 alone.

An alternative answer lies in the Faroe Islands, hailed as the ‘new Iceland’ with similarly dramatic landscapes and completely ethereal vibes.

The archipelago of 18 volcanic islands, which sit between Iceland, Norway and Scotland , offer a unique blend of Highlands majesty and Scandi charm. And getting there just got so much easier.

Between June 1 and August 31, Atlantic Airways will be operating flights from London Gatwick to Vagar Airport.

Flying on Tuesdays and Saturdays, the journey takes just two hours and 10 minutes from London, whereas previously you would have had to stop over in either Copenhagen or Edinburgh.

What to do on the Faroe Islands

A nature-lover’s dream, the Faroe Islands is home to cruises, hiking trips and fishing opportunities galore.

Some of the top-rated activities on TripAdvisor include a historic walking tour in Tinganes, exploring the Mulafossur Waterfall and Cleft of Gjogv (stunning cliffs, ideal for birdwatchers).

The impressive landscape recently made it to the big screen, with the most recent James Bond film, No Time to Die, being shot on Kalsoy Island. Fans can even book a tour to explore the filming locations.

You can also opt for boat tours to the wild Vestmanna bird cliffs of northwestern Streymoy, and if the weather permits, you can sail from Vestmanna along the west coast of Streymoy to witness mountainous cliffs and sea stacks.

There are lighthouses, castles, cathedrals and fortresses available to explore too.

Visitors have hailed it as even better than Iceland, with one Reddit user attesting to the Faroes’ other-worldly atmosphere.

‘We visited Iceland before Faroe. IMO, Faroe landscapes took my breath away…more than they did in Iceland…[they were like] something out of the wildest story book,’ @hotspicyaloo penned, labelling it ‘one of the most beautiful and peculiar countries’ they’d ever visited.

‘If you want calm and quiet then the Faroe Islands will have that in spades, even more so than Iceland,’ @NutsForDeath added.

‘Just be prepared/cautious when hiking alone though, even though it’s a small place you can end up isolated pretty damn quickly, and there’s no shelter from the elements once you’re out there.’

How to get around the Faroe Islands

The infrastructure in the Faroe Islands is excellent. There is a good network of highways, tunnels, and mountain roads.

Bus and car rental is easy and even taxi drivers are popular guides for smaller groups.

The network of ferries between the islands is excellent and different boats and vessels are ready to take smaller and larger groups on boat tours for fishing, bird watching, diving and grotto concerts.

Even helicopters can take you between the islands or high upon mountain tops.

How to get to the Faroe Islands

Atlantic Airways will be running their direct services from Gatwick from Tuesdays and Saturdays between June 1 and August 31.

If you fly from London Heathrow with SAS, you will change planes in Copenhagen and reach the Faroe Islands in around 6 hours.

You can also fly from London Gatwick with easyJet or from London Stansted with Ryanair in 5-6 hours. Both of these routes also involve layovers in Denmark.

You can also fly from Birmingham Airport with SAS in around 10 hours.

Flights to the Faroe Islands

Flights directly to Faroe Islands will cost from upwards of £96 with Atlantic Airways, depending on when you book.

You can get non-direct flights with SAS for £215 in June, with the journey taking five hours.

KLM and Atlantic Airways also offer a two-stop journey for £175.

British Airways offers a 6h45 journey to the Faroes, stopping at Copenhagen for two hours, for £316.

Where to stay in the Faroe Islands

Accommodation in the Faroe Islands varies, ranging from luxury 4-star hotels to comfortable and simple lodgings.

The capital, Tórshavn, has some higher end spa  hotels . Those travelling on a budget can stay in hostels, hotels and guesthouses found outside the capital on islands across the country. And if you want to sleep in nature, there are also camping options.

B&B,  Booklocal.fo , and AirBnB houses are also a popular form of accommodation and are found on most islands.

This guesthouse in Skálavík is the top rated accommodation on Booking.com. Mølin Guesthouse features a garden, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Skálavík. Guests can enjoy sea views.

The Gøtugjógv Log House is the second highest rated accommodation on the island. Situated in Gøtugjógv and only less than 1 km from Gotusandur Beach, Gøtugjógv Log House features sea views, free WiFi and free private parking. The property has mountain views, an outdoor fireplace and spa facilities.

There is also Tórshavn Apartment in the centre of the capital which offers family- friendly rooms, with views of mountains and the sea.

What the weather is like on the Faroe Islands

Despite the islands’ northern latitude location, summers are cool with an average temperature of 13°C, and winters are mild, with an average temperature of 3°C.

December, January, and February are the coldest and most windy months in the Faroe Islands.

The average maximum temperature is usually around 5°C  throughout the winter. There will be an average of 8-10 days with frost. The mountain peaks are likely to be covered in snow.

Happy exploring!
