Scorpions Announce 2022 North American Tour with Whitesnake

The post Scorpions Announce 2022 North American Tour with Whitesnake appeared first on Consequence .

Scorpions have announced a 2022 North American tour in support of their latest album, Rock Believer . Joining the legendary German band on the two-month trek will be fellow veteran rockers Whitesnake , who will be on their farewell outing.

The late summer / early fall “Rock Believer Tour” kicks off August 21st in Toronto, Canada, and runs through an October 21st show in Las Vegas. Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, May 13th at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster , with a Live Nation pre-sale beginning Thursday, May 12th (use code FINALE ).

“After the amazing start we’ve had with our residency in Las Vegas, it‘s about time to come back for a real tour to rock the US like a hurricane again,” said Scorpions singer Klaus Meine, borrowing a line from one of the band’s most famous songs. “We can‘t wait to see all you Rock Believers out there!”

Whitesnake frontman David Coverdale added, “Once again it’s time to feel the sting of the Scorpions & the bite of the Whitesnake!!! Can’t Wait!!!”

Scorpions released their 19th album, Rock Believer , in February of the year, which marked the band’s first LP in seven years. It’s also the first album to feature current drummer Mikkey Dee , the Motörhead veteran who joined Scorpions in 2016, following the passing of Lemmy Kilmister.

Coverdale, who turned 70 this past September, previously announced that Whitesnake’s upcoming tour would be their last. The band kicks off its final outing on Tuesday night (May 10th) with a European run before linking up with Scorpions for the North American run.

“We have this farewell tour, and when I say that I’m retiring, I’m retiring from touring at this level. It’s so huge and it takes months and months and months to set up,” said Coverdale back in November. “I was hoping, actually, to retire at 69, which is absolutely the best age for the lead singer of Whitesnake to step down.”

Swedish band Thundermother will serve as opening act for the entire tour. See the full list of dates and the tour poster below, and pick up tickets here .

We’ve got the windy city covered., scorpions make allstate arena a “rock believer,” openers thundermother channel the gods.

Scorpions

Germany’s hard rock/heavy metal heroes Scorpions have already said “farewell” and reunited, along with commemorating a 50th anniversary, which would’ve left very few reasons to tour at this point, apart from a victory lap, had the group not gone back into the recording studio.

And that’s exactly what happened when the legendary band (not pictured due to a delay in management approval) broke a seven-year gap between releases, the longest its ever had, with “Rock Believer” reviving both the bravado and the monster ballads of its commercial peak.

Scorpions

Even so, singer Klaus Meine, rhythm guitarist Rudolf Schenker, lead guitarist Matthias Jabs, bassist Pawel Maciwoda and drummer Mikkey Dee (formerly of Motörhead) kept right on stinging with “Gas In The Tank,” “Make It Real” and “The Zoo” to start the 100-minute evening.

The guys showcased their softer but no less passionate side during “Send Me An Angel” and “Wind Of Change” (dedicated to the people of Ukraine) then cranked it back up thanks to “Tease Me Please Me” and the current collection’s title track, all of which made maximum use of the stadium-level light show and screens filled with crawling creatures or additional atmosphere.

They saved the grandest anthems until the end, including “Blackout,” “Big City Nights,” “No One Like You” and the “Stranger Things”-revived “Rock You Like A Hurricane” as multiple generations pumped their fists and rejoiced that even after a false alarm and advancing age, Scorpions still can’t seem to retire.

Scorpions

The entirely female act brought slices of AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses and Bon Jovi, alongside its own blend of chunky hooks and charging riffs, all while gradually winning over those taking their seats and raising countless toasts along the way.

I sold my tickets because Five Points amphitheatre is the worst venue I have ever been to. The only time I have enjoyed a show there is when buying VIP front and Center seats and even then there security is the worst. Last show the people I knew from the meet and greet with Foreigner spent between 900 and 2000 for a paid of tickets yet when I walked down to the stage Indis not get stopped once and asked for my ticket. I learned against the rail against the stage with the aisle behind me and never was told to leave the area and neither was anyone who paid $49 for baxkrow seats. When you sit in the upper section, meaning 300's, there is no security, the seats are temporary, and its a bit more cramped then the airlines. Of someone moves, the entire section moves, and the entire row has to clear the row because it is impossible to get buy. Of anything happens in the upper sections, which is very possible seeing that everytime you get to your seat you have to ask someone who doesnt belong there to move. And when I sat 2nd row, I had at least 10 different neighbors from people climbing over the seats. With such

The band was exceptional, the lights magical, sound a bit of a problem at the beginning, but grew better towards the end of the show, especially when singing their older songs.

The Athens State Orchestra did not manage to see, except the last song - the one with Shenker - as I was entering the stadium, because, even though I had the most expensive VIP ticket (with numbered seat), I - among most of the crowd - could not enter, since there where NO lines, NOONE from the production company, NO security to help and guide us. As a result, the concert began as sceduled, at 21:00 sharp ad all of us were outside trying - I got pushed over, squeezed etc - to get in. Because of that - the entrance delay - they did not check our tickets (nobody was at the gates any way) so whoever wanted to enter the stadium - with NO ticket - could by all means enter. When entered the stadium there were AGAIN nobody to escort or show us to our seats, with limited lighting, and when we FINALLY found our seats there were people seating already refusing to get up - since they told us that people from the organisation told them to seat WHEREVER they wished, since there was no time to seat them and obviously without entry control we were outnumbered - and spend about 30 minutes trying to convince them for the obvious: to get up and let us seat on our NUMBERED seats, while searching for SOMEONE from the production company to assist. The stairs were full of people (this is against safety policy) and I managed to get down to arena after stepping on hands (it was dark as I mentioned earlier) to find someone in charge....NOONE, only one security guy who wasn't authorised to help with the situation and finally a "staff" who told me that he was a driver and would try to find someone to assist. They had NO CBs to intercommunicate and were running up and down to find whomever they were searching for. Finally, the paramedics, also had NO CBs and as we saw a girl in distress form above we were trying to communicate through signals that they should speed to the spot. The production company - I've never heard of them in Greece - are plain potential murderers.

The show of the concert was great, but we didn't really see the collusion of the band with the symphonic orchestra. The orchestra came, played their part, and after that we never saw them again. The sould could be better. The legendary Scorpions gave it all though. They made as feel good and they carried as away!

The organization was not good. Two small entrances for sooo many people. That lead to huge queues. I felt there was not so much security, during the check of the tickets.

It was great seeing Kallimarmaro full, from people who came to enjoy Scorpions!

Great experience. Could be much better.

SCORPIONS' Setlist For 2024 Las Vegas Residency Will Include One 40-Year-Old Song That Has Never Been Performed Live

SCORPIONS , one of the most iconic and influential hard rock bands of all time, will return to the Las Vegas Strip in 2024 with a brand new exclusive headlining residency show in celebration of the 40th anniversary of their iconic album "Love At First Sting" , performing the album plus all of their biggest hits. Promoted by Live Nation and Caesars Entertainment , "Scorpions - Love At First Sting Las Vegas" kicks off on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The new show follows the band's popular "Sin City Nights" residency which sold out all nine performances at the venue in 2022.

In a recent interview with Las Vegas's KTNV Channel 13 , SCORPIONS guitarist Matthias Jabs reflected on the "Love At First Sting" LP and the band's long career, saying (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET ): "When the album came out in '84, we were doing everything on the basis of the success of the previous one, the 'Blackout' album, our first headlining tour ever in the States. But this is all more than 40 years ago now. And, yeah, we had a fantastic career, starting with 'Blackout' and 'Love At First Sting' , first of all. I think the album stayed in the charts, in the Top 10, more than a year. The '80s were crazy and the '80s were very good for the SCORPIONS because it really made us extremely successful. And we are so happy that we can still perform worldwide, and especially now coming back to Vegas, our third residency, we are very excited to be able to play that album, 'Love At First Sting' , in its entirety for the very first time in our long career."

Asked what the SCORPIONS have planned for the residency that will surprise even the band's most ardent fans, SCORPIONS singer Klaus Meine said: "There's a song on 'Love At First Sting' , it's called 'Crossfire' . And it was almost like a political kind of song, saying, we're growing up, we're living in the middle of the crossfire between East and West, like where we grew up here in Germany, West Germany, so to speak, in a divided country with a Berlin Wall. So this song, to bring this up on stage and perform this live, it's a song we never ever played live because it's kind of complicated and it's a challenge, but at the same time we're excited about it and we can't wait to make this work. And I know for the fans, they were going, 'No way. I never expected to see this song [performed] live.'"

"Scorpions - Love At First Sting Las Vegas" performances are as follows:

April 2024:

April 11 April 13 April 18 April 20 April 24 April 26 April 28

May 1 May 3

Shows begin at 8 p.m.

In a recent interview with Justin Young of Monsters, Madness And Magic , Meine spoke about SCORPIONS ' plans for the coming months and years. He said: "Well, we're still out there with the 'Rock Believer' tour. It takes us around the world. And even though we have a little break right now, we keep going next year, we pick it up. And we might come back to the United States and a lot of other places we haven't been on this tour so far and we keep going. And who knows if we go back to the studio at some point again. We never really talk about it. Right now, we're still doing 'Rock Believer' tour and we enjoy it a lot."

He continued: "There's so many rock believers out there. When you think, so many people in all those years said rock is dead because of grunge, because of hip-hop, because of rap, whatever it is. But no, it's not dead at all. There are millions of rock believers out there, and we can't wait to see them in 2024 and in '25, because it will mark the 60th anniversary of the SCORPIONS . That is something quite special. So right now, '24, '25 — next year we're on the road, and we put it all together right now. And we can't wait to see the rock believers out there again.

"The new album is still a new album, 'Rock Believer' , and we can't wait to go out there," Klaus repeated. "And maybe we change a couple songs in the show. We'll see, we'll see. It's too early to say. And we can't wait to be out there next year. And for '25, yeah, it's 60 years. Hard to believe. There are guys, the next generation ahead of us, like THE ROLLING STONES , it's amazing to see what they're doing. Just heard, a couple of days ago, their new songs, and, man, they're rocking hard. That's pretty cool."

This past October, SCORPIONS founder Rudolf Schenker seemingly dismissed any talk of possible retirement but acknowledged that the band will not be able to continue indefinitely. The 75-year-old guitarist told Vikram Chandrasekar of Tales From The Road : "It's not a never-ending road. The road will be finished sooner or later; it's up to you and to our gods. But in 2025, that could be a great time for our 60th anniversary. 2025, it's the time when SCORPIONS is 60 years old. So, then, to celebrate 60 years of SCORPIONS could be a possibility, because I'm in contact with our very old drummer, who was playing on [ SCORPIONS ' 1972 debut album] 'Lonesome Crow' , and the bass player, and use them also on stage to see the different kind of states we went through. Because we are very much connected still in all the different musicians, and that shows again, when we can make it, that music is always there for making friendships."

Back in May 2022, Meine told Jorge Botas of Portugal's "Metal Global" that there was no more talk of retirement within the band, as there was back in 2010 with what was purported to be a final album and a farewell tour that never quite took hold. "No, we scratched that word [retirement] out of our [vocabulary]," the now-75-year-old singer said. "It's not there. We don't think about it and we don't talk about it and we take it as it comes.

"We're just growing older and we do what we do and we hope our fans enjoy it as much as we do," Klaus continued. "But who would have thought we're still around after celebrating 50 years of being recording artists — our first album came out in 1972 and now 'Rock Believer' looks like it hits the big time with the fans and so many positive reviews from all over the world. And after all these years, who would have thought? And it's a wonderful thing.

"But all we know is [that] the road ahead is way shorter than what's behind us," Meine added. "And we never take it for granted — we never take success for granted. We work hard on what we do because we still love it and we still enjoy it. But it's what it is. And I think every artist knows what I'm talking about, because to go out there, play a great show for the fans and not let 'em down, it takes a lot of preparation, takes a lot of work. And being the singer, you try to make sure your pipes are in a good condition.

"It's a lot of things," Meine said. "And we don't know what the future will bring. Take a look at the next corner, and you never know what's going on. But right now, life is good. We have a great new album out there. And we have a lot of fun. We enjoy it."

Meine previously discussed SCORPIONS ' aborted retirement in a 2018 interview with SiriusXM . "The thing is we have a much different view now," Klaus said. "And it's a young generation — that's the fuel that keeps us going, and it's really motivating.

"To be honest, every other year, you take a look around the corner: 'Can we do this?' 'Can we still deliver on the same high level, the way we used to do it?'" he admitted. "And that's the only way, and it's only fun if you can go out there and play a great rock show, wherever you do it. Like in the last couple of weeks, we had so much fun. But then you get sick on the road, like I did last year with the severe laryngitis. What can you do? There's not a chance. And then sometimes, of course, you ask yourself, 'How long can we do this?' Especially for singers — and I know I'm not the only one. But it's always, sometimes you ask yourself, ' Klaus , c'mon, how long can you keep up this level?' And then you go out there, everything feels good."

Circling back to SCORPIONS ' 2010 "farewell tour" announcement, Klaus told SiriusXM : "Of course, we had our moment of doubt when we said, 'Okay. Maybe we should retire. Maybe this is a good moment.' And then we realized we were wrong, because there's still a lot of sting in the tail, so to speak, and it still feels good. There's such a demand for the SCORPIONS , and we're one of the few bands who play this global stage. If there wasn't this kind of demand, of course, there's no point after so many years, and you'd better go, 'Well, I go home and take it easy.' But there's such a strong demand and that really feels good and challenging — it's a challenge. Of course, you don't do it for the business. It's a good business, yes, but you don't do it for the business and for the money — you do it for the fun, you do it for what's inside of you, what's in your blood, what's in your veins, and that's the rock and roll music. And you wanna go out and play in front of an audience, because that's what it's all about."

SCORPIONS ' only continuous member has been Schenker , although Meine has appeared on all of the band's studio albums, while guitarist Matthias Jabs has been a consistent member since 1978, and bassist Paweł Mąciwoda and drummer Mikkey Dee have been in the band since 2003 and 2016, respectively.

SCORPIONS ' latest album, "Rock Believer" , was released in February 2022. The album was recorded primarily at Peppermint Park Studios in Hannover, Germany and was mixed at the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin, Germany with engineer Michael Ilbert , who has earned multiple Grammy nominations for his mix work with producer Max Martin on albums by Taylor Swift and Katy Perry .

Scorpions “Rock Believer World Tour 2022” Comes To Tampa, Florida at The Amalie Arena September 14, 2022

  • September 16, 2022
  • Central Florida Concert Reviews , International Concert Reviews
  • by Mark Horan Publisher/Photographer

The Amalie Arena in downtown Tampa, Florida is custom to raucous crowds as it has hosted the last three of hockey’s Stanley Cup championships . On Wednesday September 14, 2022 the house was absolutely rocking with the tour stop of the Scorpions “ Rock Believer World Tour 2022 .” The tour was originally billed with mega stars, Whitesnake , but health issues to vocalist David Coverdale sidelined the band from joining the tour. Without Whitesnake, it still brought the Swedish band Thundermother on the bill to introduce Nordic Thunder to North America!

Thundermother entered the Amalie stage to a warm welcome at approximately 7:00pm from a crowd still filing in to find their seats. Folks, this is a hardcore rock band with an AC/DC motorhead sound. Filippa Nässil started the band in 2010 and they have produced four albums to date. The band line up has been completely overhauled since it’s inception with guitarist Filippa Nässil being the only constant. Guernica Mancini vocals are a high point of the bands sound which is tied neatly together with the strong rhythm section of bassist, Mona “Demona” Lindgren and drummer Emlee Johansson .

This was Thundermother’s first trip to North America and we certainly hope it’s not the last as they rocked out their set and the fans at Amalie showed their appreciation in kind.

Guernica Mancini – Vocals

Mona “Demona” Lindgren – Bass

Emlee Johansson – Drums

The Scorpions banner hid the stage and when the house lights dimmed, the banner dropped. There was a second banner reading “Are You Ready To Rock” remaining that blocked the stage. The arena crowd just exploded answering categorically, yes they were ready. Then second banner dropped and the band is already on stage and started their opening song, “Gas In The Tank” from their 2022 release Rock Believer, the bands nineteenth studio album. In all they would play four songs off the new album in their 17 song set. Rudolf Schenker founded the band in 1965, that’s 57 years ago! In touring 80 countries and playing over 5,000 concerts, it’s hard to image anyone not having a favorite song from their vast catalog. The fans in attendance sang and danced the entire show to mega hits like “The Zoo,” “Big City Nights,” “Wind of Change”and finishing the night with a two song encore of “Rock You Like a Hurricane” and “No One Like You.” The most touching part of the show was the special rendition of  “Wind of Change” with lyrics for Ukraine. Upon introducing the song, Klaus Meine asked the audience to fire up their lighters, then with a smile he said I mean your cell phones. As the song played, a video on the back screen showed a brick wall with barbed wire on the top, reminiscent to the Berlin Wall . The song progressed as sunlight shone from behind the wall and birds (a symbol of peace) flew over the wall destroying it brick by brick. I am sure most in the audience understood the symbolism of the wall that stood in Berlin from 1961 to 1989 stood for oppression. Any person present had to feel in their hearts for the people of Ukraine. The Scorpions, a German band, just reminded the audience of what they had experienced as citizens for so many years.

I have been a big fan of The Scorpions for the past 45 years and this was my first occasion to see them, much less review and photograph them. My evening was almost complete, except they left out one of my favorite Scorpion tunes, “Still Loving You”. That is something I can live with as Rudolf Schenker and Klaus Meine are both 74 years old and are still rocking like a hurricane. Thank you and God bless you both and the rest of the band!

Rudolf Schenker – Rhythm Guitar, Backing Vocals

Klaus Meine – Lead Vocals

#video MOSCOW METRO ‘Spirit of a City’

LIMERICK band Moscow Metro have released a video for ‘Spirit of a City’ from the forthcoming EP of the same name. “‘Spirit Of A City’ explores several dark themes – feeling trapped by your situation, death and loss, social tensions and escaping the aftermath of a failed relationship,” says the band. Meeting through mutual friends, the quartet’s early rehearsals took place in a storage warehouse, a ten foot by ten metal box that shook with sound vibrations, leading to the inspiration for their name. Today Moscow Metro’s music is epic in sound and universal in language. In the coming months Moscow Metro will tour Ireland and Germany, playing Whelan’s Dublin on March 13 and Nenagh Arts Centre on March 29 before moving on to play Karrera Klub, Berlin, May 24 and joining The National and Warpaint at The Maifeld Derby Festival in Mannheim on May 30.
