SLAVIA on the L’Étape: Iron Will and an Unplanned Marathon

The final act is upon us at last as our drama of passion for cycling and history, craftsmanship and athletic devotion reached its grand finale on the Tour de France’s L’Étape. The result took everyone by surprise, including the main protagonist.

17  hours and 17 minutes. That’s how long it took Vladimír Vidim to conquer the 135-kilometre-long stage 20 of the Tour de France. Even though more than 12,000 fellow racers of the L’Étape du Tour race had crossed the finish line a long time before, he did not once consider giving up. This is a story of immense determination and a love of cycling.

In many respects, Vladimír was by far the hero of the day and the most admired participant of the whole event. “It was incredible. The SLAVIA bicycle replica was such a huge success! When I think about, there wasn’t a single person who didn’t show admiration, support or happiness. People were patting my back as if I were a Tour de France rider who had just won a stage. That really kept me going,” said Vladimír at the finish on the Val Thorens summit, 2,365 metres above sea level, roughly 30 minutes after midnight.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Let’s go back to the very beginning in January 2019. A mechanic from a professional cycling team and holder of multiple Czech records on vintage bicycles got together with a friend to contemplate another extreme challenge. It had occurred to him that he could bring one of the SLAVIA bikes back to life. SLAVIA was the name of bicycles made by ŠKODA when the carmaker first came into being: two gentlemen, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement, founded a bicycle-building company in 1895, then progressed to motorbikes and ultimately, the first car, and the rest is, well, history.

Vladimír, who has been driving ŠKODA cars for many years now, grew fond of a bicycle that saw the light of day in 1896 as the first SLAVIA racer. He decided that just reviving the bike wasn’t enough. “We said to ourselves that, seeing as ŠKODA sponsors the Tour de France, it would be great not only to build this legend, but also to ride a stage of the Tour on it. A straightforward and feasible plan – in theory. But, as is always the case, spanners were being thrown into the works from the off. Since (as far as anyone knows) no original specimen of the bike has survived, he decided to put the entire bicycle together from scratch, solely on the basis of period photographs, brochures, and other materials from the ŠKODA Museum archives.

The most difficult part was estimating the details and angles of the frame from the photos – the various experts Vladimír consulted all had different opinions. He created just about all of the bike himself – he welded and assembled the chromium-molybdenum pipes together, used a lathe to create the wooden handlebars, and made many other components. The preparation and construction of the bike took him three months, including the time his arm was in a cast. “There were six weeks when I could only use one arm. Luckily, that’s all I needed to control both the lathe and the miller,” says Vladimír with his admirable can-do attitude.

He adds that if the bicycle had been destined simply for a museum, it would have been ready much sooner, but he needed to be sure that this one would get him across the finish line. “I had to re-design the bike so it won’t fall into pieces along the way,” he laughs. The end result is& bsp;a bike that weighs 18 kilogrammes and – just like the original – has no brakes or derailleur. You can read more about how it was made here .

RIDE A TOUR STAGE, RUN A MARATHON

For the race itself, Vladimír fitted himself up with attire, a cycling bottle, and shoes consistent with the style at the beginning of the 20th century – when the Tour de France first took place (1903). Even though Vladimír’s SLAVIA was a fully functioning replica and he had taken his training absolutely seriously, not even he had foreseen how much “elbow grease” he would be needing.

He conquered the 135 kilometres, with a total elevation of 4,563 metres and three steep mountainous climbs, in 17 hours and 17 minutes because he had to run a fair part of the route – he could only brake by deploying pedal countermovement, which was pretty risky. “There was a crisis on the very first downhill section. The other racers were passing me by terribly fast so I decided it would be safer to get off the bike and run alongside it. I didn’t want to endanger the others or myself,” Vladimír explains.

He spent much of the race using the same strategy, spending at least 40 km on foot next to his bicycle. So, besides his excellent cycling feat, he also ran nearly an entire marathon in the mountains. Despite Vladimír’s concerns about potential technical problems, the SLAVIA handled the whole race without a single malfunction. Besides the running, there were other difficulties Vladimír had to cope with: “When I reached the 80th kilometre, we arrived late so the refreshment station was already closed. I was saved by an energy bar that another rider had dropped earlier and I had originally picked up as a piece of litter I was going to throw away later. A few hours on, though, I gratefully promoted it from litter to snack and ate it. Beggars can’t be choosers,” laughs Vladimír.

The friendly atmosphere and the solidarity of the other L’Étape participants made u  for all of his hardships. There was the moment he rode through a pass with thousands of cheering fans and the time an onlooking Frenchman refilled his water bottle without batting an eye. The support of his family was also a major help: his wife and son kept him company on the last night-time section of the race and lit up his way with the headlights of the ŠKODA SUPERB support car. “You know, all these ‘human experiences’ probably mean more to me than the adrenalin from the race, the finish or the success,” Vladimír adds.

Andy Schleck, a former professional road cyclist, the 2010 Tour de France winner, the current Tour de Luxembourg chairman and a ŠKODA ambassador, commented on this incredible feat at this year’s Tour: “I have masses of respect for Vladimír because I wouldn’t be able to finish the L’Étape on a bike with one speed and a brake where you have to push the pedals backwards. Very impressive and a really cool story, I love it.”

Even though Vladimír finished last and long after the set limit, which usually means disqualification from the race, an honorary L’Étape medal was still deservedly awarded because such a heroic, unique, and strong-willed feat made the organisers turn a slightly blind eye to the rules.

The L’Étape in a nutshell

Since 1993, one stage of the famed Tour de France has been open to the public, complete with the full service granted to professional riders. This year, the occasion fell on stage 20, covering 135 km and three demanding climbs with the highest, Val Thorens, being a summit finish at 2,365 metres above sea level. The total elevation of the stage was 4,563 m. This year, 12,760 cyclists took part and 25-year-old Adrien Guillonnet (04:44:11) was the winner; the fastest woman was Edwige Pitel (05:25:36).

The Prague bus network serves the outskirts of Prague, areas where the Metro and trams do not reach. They are there to compliment the central public transport system and like the Trams they operate 24 hours with a reduced evening schedule.

Things To See In Prague

Up & Coming: Karlín

Karlin is situated between Vitkov hill and the Vltava River has rebuilt itself from severe flooding in 2002. Its managed to reinvent itself as one of the trendiest areas lined its streets with restaurants, wine bars and young families and been listed on Timeout's 50 coolest neighbourhoods in the world. The best way to explore the district is to walk up Krizikov street and sights to see are Lyckovo Namesti Square & St Cyril and Methodius Church.

Visitors walk around the stadium on their own. Signs are placed all along the route, pointing the direction of the tour so that no one gets lost in Eden. Allow at least 45 minutes to explore the museum and the stadium in peace.

Sinobo Stadium: Slavia Prague & Czech Republic

Sportovní klub Slavia Praha is a football club that’s often referred to simply by the English name of Slavia Prague. Based in the Czech Republic’s capital city of Prague, the club was formed in 1892 and is one of the Czech Republic’s top teams. On the European stage the club reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, which is now the Europa League, in 1996 and reached the group stage of the Champions League for the first time during the 2007-2008 campaign.

They play their league games at the Sinobo Stadium, which was previously known as the Eden Aréna when it opened in 2008. The rename came about when CEFC China Energy bought the stadium in 2016, having initially planned to buy a 70% stake in it. The ground stands on the site of a former football ground, also called Eden, which was meant to be replaced during the 1970s but never was because of the vagaries of dealing with the communist regime.

The stadium boasts a curious design, essentially looking like many of the older English grounds that have four distinct sides to them. Yet in actuality it’s more like a bowl because the corners are filled in to allow for continuous seating. The main stand is split over two levels, with hospitality boxes sitting in the middle of them.

Tickets for Slavia Prague matches are split into three different categories (Z1, Z2, Z3) depending on the level of the opponent, with games against the likes of Sparta Prague and Plzen being the most expensive. As an example, tickets for the Z3 match between Slavia Prague and 1.FC Slovácko in 2019 would have cost you between 420 and 890 Czech koruna.

How To Get Slavia Prague Tickets

The club’s website is the best place to start, given that it has an English translation built-in and can easily tell you everything that you need to know. Tickets go on sale about three weeks before the match is due to take place. If you’d rather buy tickets in person then you can head to the ticket office, which is located close to Entry Gate 4 at the stadium. The club also has a deal in place with Ticketportal.

Getting To Sinobo Stadium

Train – It takes just over 24 hours to get from London to Prague, going first to Paris, then Stuttgart and on to Munich before finally heading to Prague itself. With that in mind, it might be both quicker and cheaper to fly. Once you’re actually in Prague you can get the Metro to Želivského or the train to Praha-Vršovice, which is the closest train station.

Bus – Buses 135, 136, 150 and 213 all stop to the west of the stadium. You can also opt to get the tram, with numbers 4, 7, 22 and 24 stopping within the vicinity of the ground.

Car – If you’re intent on driving rather than taking public transport then you can find Sinobo Stadium just off the E65, which is the main road that runs closest to it.

By Air – Flying is definitely the quickest way of getting to Prague if you’re travelling from the UK, with Prague Václav Havel Airport being about 25 miles or so from the stadium.

Taxi – A taxi from the castle, which is close to the centre of Prague, out to the ground will cost you around 650 Czech koruna, which is about £20 at today’s exchange rate.

There is very limited parking at the actual ground and it’s located in a residential area, so parking restrictions are in place on a match day.

Thanks to ancient laws, the tax on beer in Prague makes it literally cheaper to drink a pint than a bottle of water. Obviously not recommending that, but if you are going to have a pint or two there are plenty of great places here to do so on the cheap.

You won’t get the same sort of facilities that you might expect at the most modern Premier League grounds, but it’s still one of the best grounds in the Czech Republic so it’s not exactly lacking in what it offers.

Hospitality

Given that it is both the largest and the most modern stadium that the Czech Republic has to offer, it’s no major surprise that there’s an excellent VIP section. The Goal Club and the Legend Club are two options available to you if you wish to opt for a more formal match experience.

As well as offering a decent VIP section for those that wish to use it, the stadium also has a business centre and office space that can be hired out by those hoping to take advantage of it.

Stadium Tours & Museum

There is an excellent museum onsite as well as the ability to do tours. It opens at 10am and then closes at either 2pm or 6pm depending on when you go. It takes in everything you might expect from a stadium tour and nothing is left out. The tour costs 200CZK for adults, 150CZK for concessions, 50CZK for kids, and under 6’s go free.

About Slavia Prague

Sportovní klub Slavia Praha, better known as Slavia Prague in the UK, was founded in 1892 and are one of the Czech Republic’s most successful teams. The sports club was initially founded by medicine students with the specific aim of encouraging fellow students to be more active. It was initially a cycling club, with the football side of the operation not being introduced until 1896. Not long after being formed the club played a match against Sparta Prague, beginning a rivalry that is still very much in place today. The club enjoyed its first golden age in 1905 when the Scottish manager and player John Madden arrived in the city with new tactics that revolutionised the game and kept the club successful for more than two decades.

The club won thirteen titles between its formation and the start of the 1940s, but was forced to wait nearly five decades for their fourteenth. That arrived in 1996, which was when the club also made it as far as the semi-finals in the UEFA Cup. The club’s name has changed countless times over the years, starting life as SK ACOS Praha in 1892, before eventually transitioning to Slavia Praha nearly one hundred years later. The club uses the colours of red and white, which are supposed to stand for heart and blood and represent fair play and sportsmanship. Slavia Prague is widely considered to be a Jewish club, but that’s actually a misconception.

Sinobo Stadium History

Construction of the stadium began in September of 2006, with the official opening coming on the 7th of May in 2008. That means that it’s one of the most modern stadiums in the Czech Republic. It was built on the site of the club’s previous ground, which was located in the Eden area of the city of Prague. That was why it was called the Stadion Eden when it opened, eventually taking on the moniker of Synot Tip Arena because of sponsorship with the betting company. In 2016 the company CEFC China Energy, which had a majority stake in Slavia Prague, announced its intention to buy as much as 70% of the stadium. In the end they bought the stadium outright and renamed it as Sinobo Stadium in 2017.

The ground has been the home of Slavia Prague from the moment it opened, but it has also hosted other clubs over the years. The Czech National team has played a few games here, for example, whilst it was also the home of Bohemians 1905 between 2010 and 2012. During the 2011 to 2012 season the Czech team FC Viktoria Plzeň used the venue as its home ground for their Champions League matches because their own stadium, the Doosan Arena, wasn’t good enough to meet UEFA requirements for grounds that sides played games in club football’s elite competition in. In 2013 it was used to host the UEFA Super Cup, which was between the winners of the Champions League, Bayern Munich, and the Europa League, Chelsea.

Future Developments

When CEFC China Energy bought the stadium in 2017 they announced that they planned to invest around €50 million in improving the ground, expanding the capacity and making it the main stadium that would be used by the Czech Republic national side. At the time of writing, however, that has yet to happen.

Tour an Epic LA Mansion With Eclectic, Hotel-Like Touches

Moody visuals from Blade Runner, the 1982 sci-fi noir depicting a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles, were among the inspirations guiding AD100 talent Bryan O’Sullivan ’s design of a Bel Air manse. In their brief, the clients, financier Adam Levinson and his wife, Brittany, noted that the film encapsulated their eclectic tastes; O’Sullivan, founder of his eponymous London and New York studio and author of the forthcoming A New Glamour from Rizzoli, fittingly responded with cinematic interiors. The Levinsons, he points out, “are not afraid of color and like metallic finishes, which sit quite nicely with the architecture. It was a blank canvas.”

After snagging the 30,000-square-foot, midcentury-redolent new-build developed by Bulli , Plus Development , and PC Construction , the couple, although smitten with the sprawling layout, craved a more intimate atmosphere in which to raise their three children, and turned to O’Sullivan and his team to enliven the rooms with warm, tactile layers.

The designer reimagined the vast spaces as more human-scale ones by employing a series of small interventions. Consider the archway, a grand arrival just past the exterior’s Daniel Arsham Pikachu sculpture and ceramic artist Tony Marsh’s pillars, heightened by a melding of burl walnut veneer, Calacatta Viola marble, and silver leaf. This art-filled “decompression zone,” as O’Sullivan puts it, was not part of the previous layout, but now gives visitors a chance to pause underneath Neal Feay’s shimmering aluminum portal before plunging deeper into the three-story residence.

Throughout, O’Sullivan showcases artworks from the Levinsons’ astonishing collection, built alongside advisor Joe Sheftel —including a Tracey Emin neon creation, Theaster Gates fire hose tapestry, and Josef Albers painting—forging a soulful, deeply personal narrative in the process.

“Our vision was to unify the existing structure with our family’s rhythm and lifestyle,” explains Brittany Levinson of the project. “We have a real love for art and wanted it to be central to the design of our home. One of the things that drew us to this house so much was the gallery-like feel of the double-height entry.”

The walls, wrapped in earthy Clayworks clay plasters, also provide continuity. The existing stone cladding was eradicated to make way for this textured alternative, just as the wood shutters were replaced with chic metallic screens and partition walls were installed to elicit an inviting sense of privacy. “It was cavernous before,” says O’Sullivan.

Swaths of automotive paint add a lustrous sheen, while the austere spiral staircase was revamped for a softer look. “It was black,” remembers O’Sullivan, “and we went for powder blue, so it’s more approachable. We also added timber capping to the glass balustrade to make it more homely.”

This element is one of Adam Levinson’s favorites too. “It brought an organic sensitivity of nature into a geometric and large, open space,” he says. “You literally feel yourself floating in a hilltop above Los Angeles with the floor-to-ceiling glass in front of you,” he says.

All rooms exude an air of elegance, yet are equally comfortable. Despite the presence of vintage items, the living room, with its curvilinear sofas and ensemble of tables, conjures a futuristic aura. It looks onto the swimming pool, with double-width, throne-reminiscent daybeds designed by Bryan O’Sullivan Studio, and mighty views.

Flowing from the kitchen and the family room is the informal dining area, which showcases the Harvest table from O’Sullivan’s inaugural furniture collection, a version inlaid with bespoke urban images—a skateboarder, a cop car, a donut—that evoke Los Angeles.

Upstairs, where the bedrooms are, the den contrasts the ground floor’s open-plan rooms. Dubbed the Pajama Lounge, it’s outfitted with oak paneling and a marble fireplace and has a cozy ambiance that also pervades the lower level.

Tapping into his expertise in the hospitality realm, here O’Sullivan crafted a red- and pink-toned bar and dimly lit speakeasy-style lounge enveloped in murals, both of which call to mind swank hotel lobbies. A full-fledged entertaining hub, there’s also a powder room graced by an Amani Lewis collage and a cinema complemented by whimsical concession cabinets, well-stocked with jars of candy for savoring alongside movies.

“It was a huge basement with no natural light,” recalls O’Sullivan. “We had to make it a place that people are going to want to spend time in.” Perhaps a place for the Levinsons to watch Blade Runner , and reflect on their design vision come to life.

Greeting guests at the entrance to the Bel Air abode is a playful bronze and polished stainless-steel Pikachu sculpture, part of the Daniel Arsham x Pokémon collaboration.

Eight of Augusto Savini’s 1960s Pamplona chairs refreshed in pale pink and gray fabric from John Boyd Textiles invite guests to sit down to Bryan O’Sullivan Studio’s chrome-inlaid Harvest dining table crafted from walnut. It’s complemented by a pair of 1980s Murano glass lamps scooped up from 1stDibs that frame Gisela Colon’s artwork, and in the background, pieces by Zhu Jinshi, Yoshitomo Nara, and Lynda Benglis.

Adjacent to the kitchen, with its blue lacquered cabinetry and Cipollino green marble island buoyed by a Sabine Marcelis resin pendant and custom chrome and leather stools, is an area for the family to gather. The Charles Zana sofa, covered in Holland & Sherry fabric, is joined by a walnut armchair draped in sheepskin, a striking hammered brass ceiling lamp from Galerie Meubles et Lumières, a platinum decorated Takuro Kuwata vase, and glazed ceramic and stainless-steel side tables by Bari Ziperstein and Lee Sisan, respectively.

Situated underneath a custom polished brass and opaline glass pendant in the living room is an American black walnut George Nakashima dining table. It’s surrounded by Gio Ponti Leggera chairs swathed in fabric from John Boyd Textiles and looks onto the pool.

1970s vibes permeate the living room, which mixes vintage pieces from the era like a glass and chrome François Monnet table and duo of Jacques Charpentier leather and steel lounge chairs with de Sede’s curving Snake sectional, Raphaël Navot’s Moon sofa for Domeau & Pérès, and artworks by Kouzo Takeuchi, Tatiana Trouvé, and Robert Irwin. Bolstering the room is an array of tables by Based Upon, Draga & Aurel, Bari Ziperstein, and Tron Meyer, as well as lighting from the Future Perfect and Monologue London. The Dieter Rams stereo for Braun and George Nakashima lamp perched on the Borsani table all add 1960s flourishes.

Bryan O’Sullivan Studio’s bespoke serpentine sofa, upholstered in a deep blue Brochier fabric, is the star of the secondary living room. It curves around Egg Collective’s asymmetrical-topped Isla coffee table, accessorized with a Georg Jensen tea set, and sits underneath a flamboyant brass and neon ceiling light from Locatelli Partners. Behind it is another standout from O’Sullivan and his team: a cantilevered leather and aluminum desk paired with a Maria Pergay chair from Demisch Danant and Anne Holtrop’s lamp for Maniera. They all mingle with Massimo Castagna’s platinum side table for Henge, grounded by two Ignazio Gardella reclining 1960s armchairs, and an antique side table that takes the form of a lily. Alessandro Mendini’s Cubo Sfera table lamp for Fidenza Vetraria and artworks by Fred Eversley, Lee Hun Chung, Peter Alexander, Jason Martin, and Cameron Martin round out the space.

Exit by Yoshitomo Nara, artworks by Lynda Benglis, Zhang Huan, and Josef Albers, and Bryan O’Sullivan Studio’s custom-designed ottoman command attention in the double-height atrium.

A powder blue sheen adds softness to the sculptural staircase that leads upstairs.

Panoramic views and Arabescato Corchia marble fill the primary bathroom. They are juxtaposed with a resin side table from 88 Gallery, Heinz Mack’s late-1950s hand-embossed wood and aluminum artwork, and Rocky Mountain Hardware’s sleek vanity pulls.

A high-gloss mustardy hue courtesy of Benjamin Moore cloaks one of the guest powder rooms, where French artist Franck Evennou’s cactus-shaped, cast-bronze sconces from Maison Gerard flank the custom antique brass Fiona McDonald mirror. Chiyu Uemae’s mixed-media work adds a splash of contrasting dark blue to the space.

Soft pink Nobilis upholstery shrouds Bryan O’Sullivan Studio’s sinuous solid oak sofa in the “Pajama Lounge.” That custom design melds with a Verde Salvia marble fireplace, Hans J. Wegner chair and stool, and lighting from Entler Studio, BDDW, and Eric Schmitt. Among the objects lining the oak bookcase are Roxy Paine’s low-density polyethylene sculpture sourced from The Kitchen and a Kaws yellow vinyl figure.

The lounge is dominated by a black fossil fireplace brightened with a Stickymonger artwork and Brian Robles’s limewashed blue ceiling and wall murals accented with silver- and gold-leaf. It also brings together several custom-designed creations from Bryan O’Sullivan Studio: plump armchairs enveloped in striped Toyine Sellers fabric, brass and cast-glass drinks tables, and coiled stools that entice with mohair from Savel. Collier Webb antique bronze sconces and indigo leather and chrome lamps cast a warm glow, while 1950s Murano glass vases showcase blooms.

Plush seating elevates screenings in the cinema, a dark space punctuated by Awol Erizku’s green neon and stainless-steel depiction of a panther sourced from Ben Brown Fine Arts.

In the glamorous drinking den, Bryan O’Sullivan Studio custom designed many of the pieces, including the bar’s undulating brass and opaline glass pendant and swiveling stools, along with the expansive chrome-based sofa and lava stone coffee tables. They are married with vintage alabaster sconces by Pierre Chareau for Galerie MCDE, spinning armchairs propped up on polished chrome bases, and Zak + Fox and Tibor fabrics.

Tickets to Ravinia Festival' s highly anticipated 2024 summer concert series go on sale at 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to an announcement.

Tickets will only be available on Ravinia's website , the announcement said, with several shows expected to sell out, including James Taylor, Indigo Girls and Melissa Ethridge, Daryl Hall and Elvis Costello, The Beach Boys with John Stamos, Robert Plant and Alison Kraus, O.A.R and Fitz and the Tantrums, ZZ Top and Lynryd Skynard and Roger Daltrey.

Tickets prices for shows range from $15 to $230, the announcement said. Guests can bring their own picnics, including alcohol into the park, according to organizers.

Earlier this week, the festival posted several "ticket tips" ahead of the public on-sale, with organizers encouraging customers to reset their password and save credit card information before 8 a.m. Wednesday. Customers can also expect to placed in "virtual waiting rooms," while waiting for tickets, organizers said.

● July 12 – The CSO opens its 88th summer season at Ravinia with Alsop and two featured soloists, soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha* and pianist Michelle Cann.* In an evening of American music, the orchestra opens with Aaron Copland’s beloved classic Appalachian Spring followed by James P. Johnson’s Charleston, highlighting this early jazz piano leader’s influence and the iconic dance of the same name. Rangwanasha is in the spotlight for Samuel Barber’s evocative portrait of a small boy in the American South, Knoxville: Summer of 1915. The program wraps with a celebration of the 100th anniversary of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, with Cann at the keyboard making her CSO debut. ● July 13 – South African cellist-composer Abel Selaocoe* joins Alsop and debuts with the CSO performing his Four Spirits, which “takes the concerto format to thrillingly unprecedented places” (Bachtrack). Themes of ancestral wisdom, faith, and community permeate the program, as the piece is put in perspective alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s monumental Fifth Symphony and its distinct explorations of fate. ● July 19 – Conductor Ted Sperling joins the CSO with special guest vocalists to celebrate two iconic pop songwriters, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. ● July 20 – Alsop and the CSO take the stage for Gustav Mahler’s final major work for orchestra, Symphony No. 9. Voted as the greatest symphony of all-time in BBC Music 2 Magazine, the evening-long work has beguiled audiences since its 1912 premiere by Bruno Walter and the Vienna Philharmonic. ● July 21 – Winner of the gold medal at the International Chopin Competition and recipient of many esteemed prizes, Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino* reunites with Alsop and makes his Ravinia and CSO debuts performing Fryderyk Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1. In the second half of the program, Alsop explores symphonic storytelling during the turn of the 19th century, leading the CSO in Richard Strauss’s tone poem Don Juan and Maurice Ravel’s choreographic symphony Daphnis et Chloé (Suite No. 2). ● July 25 – Mendelssohn's hit violin concerto, played by Augustin Hadelich^, is in the spotlight as Alsop leads the CSO. Also featured on the program are Bernstein’s joyous Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Stravinsky's timeless Firebird Suite. Conductor Alena Hron , the 2024–26 Taki Alsop Fellow, guests on the podium to lead Geroge Walker’s Icarus in Orbit. ● July 26 – The centerpiece of Breaking Barriers 2024 is a space-themed concert complete with visuals and introductions by NASA specialists. Alsop conducts the orchestra in Holst’s The Planets, followed by a suite from Falkenberg’s The Moons Symphony. Audiences will see science come alive and hear from planetary scientists, including Astronaut Nicole Stott together with the composer, as they discuss how Falkenberg’s symphony offers new perspectives for humanity to contemplate our home in the cosmos. ● July 28 – Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship alum Carolyn Kuan leads this year’s Tchaikovsky Spectacular, complete with Ravinia’s signature cannons in the 1812 Overture. Making her CSO debut, she opens the program with the complete music from the first act of The Nutcracker. Desirée Ruhstrat also makes her CSO debut as the soloist for the cherished Violin Concerto. ● August 2 – Conductor Valentina Peleggi, another TACF alum, returns to Ravinia and the CSO, following a guest appearance during last summer’s Breaking Barriers Festival, to join with esteemed pianist Jorge Federico Osorio on Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto. Peleggi will also lead Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini and Respighi’s Pines of Rome. ● August 4 – Music director, conductor, and arranger Kevin Stites explores the music of legendary performer and film composer Henry Mancini for the annual Gala Benefit Evening. Curated and hosted by actor Rob Lindley, “Mancini at 100: The Music of Henry Mancini, from the big screen, to the small screen, to the stage and beyond” features Broadway vocalists Jessie Mueller* (Waitress, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), Norm Lewis* 3 (The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables), and Karen Mason* (Sunset Boulevard), with all three making their Ravinia and CSO debuts. ● August 9 & 11 – The CSO delves into operatic repertory as a semi-staging of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Idomeneo is conducted by Los Angeles Opera (and former Ravinia) Music Director James Conlon in the Martin Theatre. The work, set in Crete in 1200 BCE and telling a story from the Trojan War, shines light on a talented group of singers. Starring are tenor Matthew Polenzani as Greek king Idomeneo, soprano Andrea Carroll* as princess Ilia, and soprano Alexandria Shiner* as princess Elettra. ● August 10 – Conlon will lead an all-Mozart program with the CSO in the festival’s Pavilion between the opera performances. The program will feature both of the composer’s G-minor symphonies—the “little” No. 25, K. 183, and the “great” No. 40, K. 550—along with the Violin Concerto No. 5, welcoming James Ehnes as soloist on the violin. ● August 18 – Conductor Jonathan Rush, a frequent Ravinia guest in recent seasons and former assistant to Alsop, returns to the CSO podium. Chicago native Rachel Barton Pine takes the stage with Rush and the orchestra as the soloist for José White Lafitte’s Violin Concerto and Niccolò Paganini’s La Campanella

Ceníkové slevy

Specifické sektory ve fortuna areně.

Tribuna Sever

Tribuna Sever se nachází na severní tribuně Fortuna Areny a je domovem slávistického kotle. Pokud si koupíte vstupenky na Tribunu Sever, tedy do sektorů 105 – 110, nečekejte, že budete sedět na svém místě. Na Tribuně Sever fanoušci stojí, fandí a tvoří atmosféru zápasu. Upozorňujeme, že ve vlastním zájmu byste neměli chodit na Tribunu Sever v jiném klubovém oblečení, než je slávistické.

Sektor rodiče a děti

Sektor pro rodiče s dětmi se nachází ve 2. patře tribuny J. W. Maddena v sektorech 225 a 226 a vstup do něj je skrz vyhrazený turniket u vstupu č. 4. Sektor je určen pro fanoušky s malými dětmi, kteří se chtějí během zápasu cítit bezpečně a zároveň mít možnost děti zabavit v dětském koutku a mít možnost koupit dětem občerstvení určené pro dětské návštěvníky.

Děti si mohou zahrát slávistické Člověče, nezlob se, pexeso, stolní fotbal i stolní fotbálek pro nejmenší slávisty, mohou si vyzkoušet kop na bránu, nechat si udělat slávistické tetování nebo si nechat namalovat slávistické logo na obličej. Dětem jsou k dispozici i omalovánky, vodovky, pastelky a můžou si kreslit křídou na tabule. Slávistické hostesky mají pro děti připraveny i soutěže o malé sladké ceny.

Děti do 14 let mají možnost zúčastnit se každý domácí zápas soutěže o dres hráče podepsaný celým týmem. Stačí sledovat téma, které zveřejňujeme den před utkáním, a namalovat obrázek buď přímo v sektoru, anebo ho přinést do sektoru do konce poločasové přestávky. Ze všech obrázků následně vybíráme výherce a soutěžící na dalších dvou místech, kteří obdrží slávistické upomínkové předměty.

V dětském sektoru najdete sortiment občerstvení přizpůsobený dětem, kromě párku v rohlíku a šunkové klobásy si můžete koupit i ovocné kapsičky, kukuřičné křupky, popcorn, sušenky a pitíčka s brčkem, aby se zabránilo vylití nápoje.

Pro návštěvníky dětského sektoru, kteří zavítají před utkáním do CZC Gaming Showroom, je připravena mimo jiné FIFA 2023. CZC Gaming Showroom je primárně určen pro děti od 10 do 16 let a je otevřen hodinu a půl před výkopem. Každý si může zahrát jednu hru, aby se dostalo na všechny. CZC Gaming Showroom najdete v 1. patře po cestě do sektoru Rodiče a děti.

Místa pro osoby pohybující se na vozíku

Na stadionu jsou čtyři plochy, ze kterých mohou sledovat utkání fanoušci pohybující se na vozíku s doprovodem. Plochy jsou umístěny přímo naproti vstupům č. 1, 2, 4 a 3 (sektor hostů), přístup je samozřejmě bezbariérový. V bezprostřední blízkosti míst pro vozíčkáře jsou umístěny toalety. Parkování pro ZTP/P a ZTP

Pokud se rozhodnete jako ZTP/P či ZTP navštívit zápas autem, od sezony 2023/24 jsou pro vás vyhrazena parkovací místa rozdělena mezi parkovišti P1 a P2 (viz označení na obrázku níže).

Pokud máte zájem o využití tohoto parkovacího místa, napište na e-mail [email protected] nejpozději 5 dní před aktuálním zápasem a uveďte údaje o své vstupence (H1, H2, H4). Díky tomuto budete umístěni na parkoviště, které je nejblíže vašemu sektoru. Poplatek za parkování činí 150 Kč. Pokud svoji žádost zrušíte nejpozději 3 dny před zápasem, bude vám poplatek vrácen. Parkovací místa pro ZTP/P a ZTP jsou sice omezena, ale pokud se na vás nedostane, umístíme vozidlo na místo v rámci jiného parkoviště.

Sektor hostů

Sektor hostů se nachází v jihovýchodním rohu Fortuna Areny a tvoří ho sektory 119, 120 a 121. Do sektoru se vchází přes vstup č. 3. Sektor je ohraničen plotem, sektory nejsou mezi sebou nijak odděleny. Kapacita sektoru hostů je 969 míst a jsou v něm i místa pro fanoušky pohybující se na vozíku. Pro vstup do sektoru hostů stačí mít vstupenku v telefonu, není nutné ji tisknout.

Vstupenky do sektoru hostů se většinou prodávají způsobem, na kterém se dohodneme s hostujícím klubem, proto často nebývají ve volném prodeji. Vedle sektoru hostů je umístěna pokladna pro sektor hostů, ve které se prodávají vstupenky pouze po předchozí vzájemné dohodě s hostujícím klubem. Platba je možná v hotovosti i platební kartou.

V sektoru hostů je fanouškům k dispozici občerstvení, platba je možná v hotovosti i platební kartou. V sektoru hostů se používají vratné kelímky, záloha je 60 korun. Toalety jsou vybaveny tekoucí vodou.

Zavazadla, která nebudou vpuštěna do sektoru, je možné odložit v Úschovně zavazadel vedle pokladen č. 4. Poplatek za uschování zavazadla je 50 korun.

Vstupenky na B-tým

Vstupenky na utkání B-týmu jsou vždy k dispozici na pokladnách areálu Na Chvalech v den utkání hodinu a čtvrt před začátkem zápasu. Ve stejný čas se také stadion otevře pro veřejnost. Vstupné je jednotné 100 korun , permanentkáři z Edenu mají vstupné zdarma. Svou vstupenku zdarma získají také na pokladnách xaverovského areálu po předložení platné permanentky. Děti do 12 let mají vstup zdarma.

NEJČASTĚJŠÍ OTÁZKY A ODPOVĚDI

Do kolika let mohu uplatnit dětskou slevu? Dětskou slevu je možné uplatnit pro dítě do 14 let včetně.

Od kolika let mohu uplatnit seniorskou slevu? Seniorskou slevu je možné uplatnit od 63 let a více.

Do kolika let lze uplatnit studentskou slevu? Studentskou slevu lze uplatnit po předložení dokladu o studiu do 26 let včetně.

Jaký doklad je třeba k prokázání studentské slevy? K prokázání postačí např. karta ISIC, aplikace bakaláře, potvrzení o studiu apod.

Je třeba zakoupení vstupenky i pro dítě, které mohu mít na klíně? Vstupenku je třeba zakoupit pro každého fanouška, který bude mít zájem navštívit utkání. Horní hranice dětské vstupenky je 14 let včetně. Na vstupenku je tak možné uplatnit dětskou slevu.

Když si zakoupím zlevněnou vstupenku online, musím někde dokládat příslušný doklad k ověření slevy? Slevu není potřeba ověřovat. Při vstupu na utkání probíhá namátková kontrola, při které můžete být vyzván/a k předložení dokladu opravňujícího ke slevě. Z tohoto důvodu doporučujeme mít doklad při sobě.

Jak prokážu věk dítěte? U dětí postačí předložení kartičky zdravotního pojištěnce, pasu, občanského průkazu, apod.

Co znamená SV u místa, které si chci zakoupit? SV znamená snížená viditelnost, tedy z místa není 100% viditelnost, např. do rohů stadionu na obrazovky, rohů hřiště, v prvních řadách se nachází zídka se zábradlím, apod.

Co znamená Z1, Z2, Z3? Těmito písmeny jsou označeny cenové kategorie daného zápasu.

Kamarád mi daroval zlevněnou vstupenku, mohu ji využít? Pokud na slevu nemáte nárok, je třeba uhradit doplatek vstupenky do dospělé ceny. Hradí se rozdíl mezi uhrazenou cenou a cenou dospělé vstupenky dle cenové kategorie sektoru, do kterého se daná vstupenka nachází. Doplatek je možný uhradit na pokladnách klubu v rámci otevírací doby (standardně den před utkáním a v den utkání).

Podíly rozdělí PGA Tour mezi několik stovek hráčů. Většinu dostane 36 golfistů, které vedení okruhu vybere podle jejich úspěchů a také oblíbenosti u fanoušků.

PGA Tour Enterprises vznikla letos v lednu, kdy se do ní americké konsorcium Strategic Sports Group rozhodlo investovat až tři miliardy dolarů (69 miliard korun). Golfisté by díky tomu měli získat přístup k částce přesahující 1,5 miliardy dolarů.

Příspěvky jim budou vypláceny průběžně. Dosud PGA Tour hráče odměňovala za jejich výkony prostřednictvím prize money a bonusových programů.
