Not impressed

Booked Mostar and Kravice waterfalls with a pickup from Cavtat. We were picked up outside the bus station and abandoned at a bus stop outside Dubrovnik for over half an hour in the cold. The SAME minibus returned with more people and ten minutes after that we were picked up in an elderly coach. The guide was ok and Mostar and the waterfalls were impressive but if I was to book again I would use a company that used smaller coaches. Even if was more expensive. Smaller numbers would also cut down delays at the border. Also transfer times back to hotels would be shorter

Joined a group tour with this company and we we're disappointed. We are 50 all together in the tour on a big coach. Some of us we're going to the Kravice fall. After we passed 3 borders on our way to Bosnia (and the same onnour way baxk to Croatia) our first stop was in Kravice where our tour guide booked a taxi from there to take us (4 of us) to Medugorje. We've been told when we booked the tour that we have 45mins in the place to stay but end up with only 10mins and it's a rushed visit in Medugorje. Then the group went to Mostar. We had a brief explanation from the tour guide from thier then we've been given 2hrs own time to explore the place. If you plan to stay longer in Medugorje, I think better to join a separate and smaller group. It's not worth it getting in there and rushed backed. I supposed, they cannot control the borders and they cannot predict how long it would take. Better to join a smaller group tour, it might be a little bit pricey but you will be spending less time in the borders waiting for your group to passed.

I stayed in Dubrovnik for 5 days. In that period I have gone on a day trip with sombrero travel twice. I realy had a great time with the agency. The guides were nice and knew the area well. The transportation was well organized and the mini-bus was clean and comfortable. The trips are really worth the money. If you are visiting Dubrovnik I would recommend you a day trip with sombrero travel.

Booked an excursion to Mostar & Kravice waterfalls organised by Superior Travel through Sombrero. The whole experience was a total disaster. we were assured that we'll travel in airconditioned coach in comfort and all entrance fees included. It turned out to be 2 x 3 hours of hell in a crammed mini-coach, filthy and stuffy, airconditioner not working and a dangerous driver taking sharp bends on the road at 50-60mph. The guide on the way was next to useless and her attempt to explain facts about Bosnia Herzegovina was totally inaudible because of the terrible quality of the sound system. She kept talking to herself most of the time. we were taken first to Kravice falls for an hour and were requested to fork out 35 kunas each to enter the park to see the waterfalls after having been told that all entrance fees were included. When we questioned the accompanying guide about this additional entrance fee, she refused to accept that this had anything to do with her and requested us to complain to the company. She gave no explanation about the origins of these falls which, to be fair were quite stunning. Then on to Mostar once again in crammed stuffy conditions. We were literally 'dumped' for 3 hours at Mostar and left to fend for ourselves and the only recommendation from the tour guide was a restaurant where we could go for lunch and she made sure she introduced us to the head waiter. We made a quick exit as soon as we recognised what was happening. The 3-hour Trip back to Dubrovnik was simply a nightmare and it was fairly obvious the driver wanted to get back at supersonic speed to the accompaniment of the passengers screaming to slow down every time he went round sharp bends in the road, some of which quite hair-pin like, at excessive speed. We were all so thankful to some superior power for having arrived back in Dubrovnik in one piece!

We booked our trip with Superior Travel while in Dubrovnik, but they also seem to operate as Sombrero Travel as overs on the same trip had booked with Sombrero. Pickup at 0715 at our hotel in a 20 seater minibus. Our guide and driver for the day was Zlatko. From the very start our guide kept us entertained with information, commentary and jokes. We drove a little bit off the main roads and crossed the border at a very quiet crossing up in the hills. The crossing took about 20 minutes. First stop in Zavala for a comfort break and a quick stop at Vjetrenica caves (7.5 Euros) After this it's approximately 1.5 hours drive to Mostar. Mostar is very small with lots of tourist stalls and restaurants. The main attraction is the bridge, if you're lucky (or pay approx 25 Euros) you might get to see someone jumping from the bridge into the river. We had 1.5 hours in Mostar. We stopped for lunch in a restaurant suggested by the guide for an hour (20 Euros) or if you didn't fancy this you had an extra hour to yourself in Mostar. Next stop is Kravice waterfalls (5 Euros). We had a 45 minute stop here, just enough time for some photos and to dip your feet in the cool, clear water and to grab an ice cream before getting back on the coach. Our driver brought us back via the coastal road which meant 3 border crossings to get back to Dubrovnik and dropped off at the hotel. Overall this was a great trip, the small size of the group was really good. Our driver and guide, Zlatko, was excellent and a wealth of information. He also made an effort to engage everyone individually and involve is in the tour. Although this is a long trip it seemed to go by really quickly and we would happily recommend this tour.

I went on a tour to Mostar through Sombrero and it was well organized and I really enjoyed. Our tour guide, Maria, really gave us some great knowledge of the area. Mika was excellent to deal with. She so friendly and has great ideas about what to do. She was even kind enough to keep my bag in her office after I checked out of my hotel :) Highly recommend.

Borneo over Bali? Here are 5 'destination dupes' for travelers who want unique getaways without the crowds

  • Matt Berna of Intrepid Travel said young travelers seek immersive, unique experiences.
  • Some are skipping popular tourist spots in favor of so-called "destination dupes."
  • Book a vacation in Seoul instead of Tokyo, for example.

Insider Today

Millennial and Gen Z travelers are over tourist traps.

Matt Berna, the president of Intrepid Travel , a small group travel company, told Business Insider that his company has seen a shift away from popular destinations among tourists between 18- and 35- years old.

According to Berna, young travelers aren't bogged down by FOMO — or the "fear of missing out" — that influenced older generations. Instead, they want to set the tone.

"They want to be a trendsetter, going to the next cool place," he said.

That's why more young folks are booking so-called " destination dupes ," alternative vacation spots that are more affordable and less crowded than the well-known locations.

Intrepid Travel compiled a list of destination dupes travelers should consider this year.

Visit Corsica instead of Positano.

sombrero travel dubrovnik reviews

According to Intrepid Travel, the Mediterranean island of Corsica is a good alternative to Positano, a cliffside village on the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

"Unlike the bustling and tourist-heavy atmosphere of Positano, Corsica offers a more tranquil and peaceful environment, allowing travelers to unwind and immerse themselves in the island's serene and calming ambiance," the company said.

In Corsica, "travelers can enjoy a more authentic, tranquil, and immersive experience, exploring the island's natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and diverse activities without the overwhelming crowds typically found in more popular tourist destinations," the company added.

Visit Seoul instead of Tokyo.

sombrero travel dubrovnik reviews

Japan's tourism industry is booming , with a record-breaking 3.1 million visitors this March.

Seoul is a great destination for travelers who want to avoid overcrowded attractions but still explore an Asian megacity like Tokyo.

"Seoul provides an authentic and immersive cultural experience, allowing travelers to explore traditional Korean customs, arts, and lifestyles in a dynamic and modern urban setting," Intrepid Travel said. "This experience provides a deeper understanding of South Korea's rich cultural heritage, which may be less accessible in the more globally popular tourist spots."

Visit Panama instead of Barcelona.

sombrero travel dubrovnik reviews

Intrepid Travel told BI that travelers should consider adding Panama to their bucket list instead of Barcelona.

"Panama's diverse natural landscapes, including lush rainforests, exotic wildlife, and pristine beaches, provide a captivating backdrop for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers," the company says.

The adventure travel company added that Panama has a "vibrant cultural scene, influenced by its indigenous heritage, Afro-Caribbean roots, and Spanish culture." It offers a "dynamic and diverse experience for travelers seeking to immerse themselves in local traditions, folklore, and contemporary arts, providing an authentic and enriching journey that differs from the more European-centric cultural landscape of Barcelona."

Travel from Kefalonia to Corfu rather than Split to Dubrovnik.

sombrero travel dubrovnik reviews

People with their hearts set on traversing Croatia's coastline might also like island-hopping across the Ionian Sea near Greece.

"Sail through some of the most beautiful Greek islands in the Ionian Sea," Intrepid Travel said. "Travelers can journey to secluded coastlines, private islands, verdant rolling hills and orchards, historic Venetian architecture, warm and inviting tavernas and some of the world's most transparent azure waters."

The company added: "With its unspoiled landscapes and pristine beaches, Kefalonia to Corfu offers a serene haven for travelers seeking a tranquil escape, unlike the more crowded destinations."

Tour Borneo over Bali.

sombrero travel dubrovnik reviews

Bali is a popular tourist destination in Indonesia , but Intrepid Travel said travelers can find similar vibes on the island of Borneo.

"While Bali is undoubtedly a stunning destination with its beautiful beaches and rich cultural heritage, Borneo offers an entirely different experience that is unmatched in its own right," Intrepid Travel said.

The company said that Borneo has a "rich cultural tapestry" with influences from indigenous communities that have preserved their culture "for generations."

"Travelers can immerse themselves in the authentic lifestyles of the local communities, partake in traditional ceremonies, and gain valuable insights into the unique customs and beliefs that define Borneo's cultural heritage," Intrepid Travel said. "By choosing Borneo over Bali, travelers can embark on a journey that transcends mere sightseeing and offers a profound appreciation of the natural wonders and cultural richness that define this remarkable destination."
