‘Ghosts’ Star Richie Moriarty on Pete’s Traveling Power & What It Means for the Season 3 Finale

Richie Moriarty in 'Ghosts' Season 3

Spoiler Alert

Ghosts Newsletter

For Woodstone’s Select Spirits

For exclusive news and updates, subscribe to our ghosts newsletter :.

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Ghosts Season 3, Episode 9, “The Traveling Agent.”]

Ghosts is breaking new ground in the latest installment, “The Traveling Agent,” as do-gooder troop leader spirit Pete ( Richie Moriarty ) discovers his special power is that he can travel beyond the ghost boundary on Woodstone’s property.

While this power would thrill almost any spirit you could think of, Pete is initially reluctant to embrace the gift tied to his past as a travel agent who didn’t travel when he had the chance in life. After a bumpy outing with Jay ( Utkarsh Ambudkar ), Pete is further convinced that his power isn’t something he wants to explore further, but he’s convinced by his pals that he should embrace it.

By the end of the episode, he was boarding a flight to St. Lucia where his daughter and grandson were vacationing. Below, Moriarty opens up about his initial reaction to Pete’s ghost power, the possibilities it unlocks, thoughts on his bromance with Jay, potential romance with Alberta ( Danielle Pinnock ), and how the power will impact the finale episode.

Pete’s episodes always have an emotional aspect to them. Do you like leaning into that heaviness?

Richie Moriarty: I think the Joes have really seen Pete as the emotional heart of this cast in the way that he’s very earnest. He’s very naive, but there’s a lot of heart that comes out of this guy. He cares greatly for the other ghosts in the house. He really sees them as his troop. He was a troop leader in life, and this troop of ghosts is this group that he, in many ways likes to lead. So I love that the character has that dimension in the show because all of [Pete’s episodes] are incredibly heart-wrenching, and I think it’s really fun to be able to play the different dimensions of this character.

Did you feel adrift without your troop as Pete explored his traveling powers?

I did feel a little adrift. I’ll be honest. We get so used to being in tight quarters with so many of us that it is strange whenever we shoot a flashback and we’re with other people in different places, or we have a situation like this where I am away from the mansion for the first time as a ghost. Exciting because you’re in a new environment, but then it’s almost a little more heady because you do have to think about, “Okay, this guy has not been out of the house in 40 years. How is he going to respond and take these new environments in?” There’s a lot he hasn’t seen in so long. It’s really exciting narratively for the show, it opens up a world of possibilities, which I’m thrilled about, but it is weird.

How did you feel about Carol’s death this season and do you hope to have her and Pete cross paths more?

I hope so. I hope that we’ll be able to continue to work with Caroline Aaron. She’s so funny. I think narratively for Pete, it makes sense that he needs to move on. But it’s also narratively really fun to have her hanging out and popping in when we need that character and when we need to ruffle Pete’s feathers some more. And she’s just a joy to work with. And it was really funny because when she came back, there was a lot of figuring out the ghost rules, relearning them after she learned for the first two seasons, “Do not look us in the eyes.”

Richie Moriarty and Danielle Pinnock in 'Ghosts'

Bertrand Calmeau/CBS

Pete’s power stems from his travel agent career in life and the fact that he never traveled. Do you think that realization will help him grow moving forward?

I think there’s big growth for him in the season finale. There’s a definitive moment that really changes him and I think changes his outlook, and he’s able to bring some of that perspective back to Woodstone and talk to the other ghosts about it. That’s what I’m most excited for. The possibilities with this power are kind of endless.

Does he see the merits of rule-breaking now?

Yeah. I think the Shawshank thing that Jay brings up in the episode is real, right? It’s crazy to think about being in one place for 40 years and then all of a sudden having the front door open and it’s like you can go wherever you want. I’m sure it would be massively intimidating, but as much as he doesn’t want to do it at first, I think he’s going to learn quickly that this can totally open up your world and broaden your experiences, and equip him in different ways to help other people.

Jay and Pete’s bromance is a highlight of the show. Do you hope to continue deepening that relationship?

Totally. I love working with Utkarsh. He’s become such a good friend, and the two of us love anytime we’re on set together. And the Joes have found great ways to get him involved, especially this season with Sas’s power, and with my power. So I think that will continue in different ways.

'Ghosts' Star Rebecca Wisocky on Hetty's Death Secret Reveal & Flower's Return

'Ghosts' Star Rebecca Wisocky on Hetty's Death Secret Reveal & Flower's Return

Is there hope for the Albert-Pete romance pipeline? It seems as if she’s warming up to the idea this season.

I think the Joes are smartly slow playing this Alberta and Pete relationship, and I honestly don’t know what their intentions are with it. But I do know that Danielle and I love each other so much, and whatever they do with this, we are going to be thrilled. In so many ways the two of these people make no sense together, but the more they learn about each other, the more they sort of grow in their afterlife, especially since she has been attracted to bad boys her whole life and she’s realizing that maybe that wasn’t the smartest thing. So why not look at the opposite in Pete, this guy who’s just insanely loyal and a true nice guy. And I think for Pete, too, he’s obviously never encountered anyone like Alberta in his life. So there’s huge potential in new things for him, and that’s part of what kind of ties back to this power is he has a lot of new experiences with this power that are on the horizon.

She’s investing in Birkin stocks.

Love don’t cost a thing, but Jennifer Lopez’s Birkin bag collection is worth “several million dollars,” an expert has told The Post, with the many items skyrocketing in value since she purchased them.

J.Lo hit headlines on Tuesday after she stepped out in New York City sporting her Hermès Himalayan Niloticus Birkin bag, estimated to be worth a whopping $500,000.

But that’s only one of the eye-wateringly expensive Birkins that the “Hustlers” star has in her closet, having been pictured — often in sweatpants headed to the gym — with at least 10 of the luxury items over the years.

Jennifer Lopez has a Birkin bag collection that's likely worth several million dollars.

Michael Tonello, fashion guru and author of “Bringing Home the Birkin”, said Lopez has likely splashed upwards of half a million dollars on Birkin bags, but believes they would be worth way more than that if she ever offloaded them.

“If J.Lo were to decide to sell her bags through a special auction at a major auction house I would guesstimate that you’d be looking at something in the area of several million dollars — minimum,” Tonello told The Post on Wednesday.

Jennifer Lopez hit headlines on Tuesday after she stepped out in New York City sporting her Hermès Himalayan Niloticus Birkin bag, estimated to be worth a whopping $500,000.

It’s no surprise given that Hermès’ Birkin handbags often double in value in as little as five years, and are even called a better investment than gold , according to experts.

Also, the bags are notoriously hard to buy directly from Hermès, and usually appreciate in value over time due to demand.

“Acquiring any of these bags today at an Hermès store is quite complicated,” Tonello explained. “Not one of these bags would be out on the selling floor for you to purchase. These are all ‘back room’ bags, only available at the discretion of the sales associate or store manager.”

Here, a look at some of the super rare Birkins that Lopez owns — and the insane cost of similar bags that are currently on the resale market.

Birkin 25 in Himalayan Niloticus

J.Lo was snapped on a separate outing in New York back in 2020 toting the eye-wateringly expensive accessory.

This is J.Lo’s most expensive Birkin bag because it’s one of the most rare — and therefore coveted — Hermès products on the market.

The crocodile bag features 18K white gold diamond-encrusted hardware and is currently listed on one re-sale site for half a million dollars (excluding tax) .

But Lopez is getting good use out of her pricey purchase.

Tuesday’s outing wasn’t the first time Lopez has been seen with this particular bag. She was snapped on a separate outing in New York back in 2020 toting the exorbitantly expensive accessory.

J.Lo was first seen sporting this large brown Birkin back in 2008, and she's continued to get significant wear out of it in the ensuing years.

Good bags never go out of style.

In 2023, when she was pictured by paparazzi rocking the luxe item with a brown sweatsuit and a pair of Nike dunks while running errands in LA.

The Birkin is also likely to be one of the most expensive in Lopez’s collection, with Cognac Crocodile Birkins in the same 40 cm size re-selling for up to $76,000 online.

Lopez was seen with the same Cognac Crocodile Birkin while out in Los Angeles last year.

Birkin 35 in Red Crocodile

Lopez has never been afraid of a bold Birkin — something Tonello says he admires.

“She loves, and is not afraid, of color,” he told The Post. “It also seems that she actually uses the bags in her everyday life, as in they’re not just for walking the red carpet.”

Indeed, the “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” crooner was seen rocking her red Birkin during a shopping spree in London back in 2012, while hand in hand with dancer beau Caspar Smart.

When she was seen out in 2023 with the same red Birkin , Smart was long gone, proving that lovers come and go, but a Birkin is forever.

The re-sale cost of a similar red Hermès handbag : $57,000.

Birkin 25 in Vert D’Eau Matte Alligator

While the bag is small, its price tag is anything but. Sotheby's is currently selling a similar Birkin for a cool $65,000.

Lopez was seen carrying this mint green Birkin during a romantic trip to Paris with Ben Affleck in July 2022, three months after he proposed.

While it’s unclear whether Affleck gifted the bag to his Birkin-loving beauty as an engagement present, it certainly didn’t come cheap.

Sotheby’s is currently selling a similar Birkin for a cool $65,000.

Birkin 30 in Black Crocodile

The re-sale price of a similar sized black croc Birkin comes in at a cool $89,500.

With its gold hardware, this eye-catching accessory has been a favorite of J.Lo’s for more than half a decade.

The songstress was first seen sporting it during an outing in 2019, and it’s been a trusty accessory for her ever since.

The re-sale price of a similar-sized black croc Birkin comes in at a cool $89,500.

Birkin 40 in Black Leather

Classic: Lopez lugged the bag to a taping of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in Los Angeles in 2018, teaming it with a smart gray dress and classic black heels.

While she may relish bags in eye-catching colors, J.Lo is also partial to a plain black Birkin.

The star is frequently seen carrying around the classic handbag while doing business.

In 2018, Lopez lugged the luxe bag to a taping of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” teaming it with a smart gray dress and classic black heels.

But a classic black Birkin doesn’t come cheap, with one currently listed on a re-sale site for $32,000.

Birkin 35 in Green Leather

Sotheby's is currently auctioning off a Birkin in the same size and shade, which is expected to fetch around $16,000.

No doubt Birkin lovers were green with envy when Lopez debuted this forest-colored bag back in 2020.

Sotheby’s is currently auctioning off a Birkin in the same size and shade , which is expected to fetch around $16,000.

Birkin 35 in White Leather

Lopez is seen sporting the big white Birkin at a media event back in 2012.

This classic Birkin was one of the first in Lopez’s collection, with the “Gigli” actress rocking it at a 2012 premiere in Las Vegas.

While it’s the same size as the green Birkin she owns, this white version usually sells for slightly more on the resale market, given that it’s a more classic shade.

Expect to fork out in excess of $17,000 for a similar-looking second-hand item.

Birkin 25 in Grey Leather

A gray Birkin with gold hardware will set you back at least $18,000.

In 2020, J.Lo was seen sporting this gray-colored Birkin complete with gold hardware during an appearance at Milan Fashion Week.

Replicating this look won’t come cheap, however, because a similar bag will set you back more than $18,000.

Birkin 25 in Grizzly Gold Veau Doblis Suede

This brown leather suede Birkin is one of the more unusual in Lopez's extensive collection.

This brown leather suede item is one of the more unusual in Lopez’s extensive collection.

Page Six has previously reported that the same bag regularly sells for about $42,000 on resale sites.

And while it’s unclear when she added the bag to her rotation, it’s seemingly the most recent Birkin she’s purchased.

The “Let’s Get Loud” songstress was first seen showing it last year, and has been pictured with it multiple times since.

Irish star of "Abigail" pays tribute to late Irish American co-star

Alisha weir says her "abigail" co-star angus cloud, who died after filming wrapped, "brought so much joy to the set.".

(L) Alisha Weir at the Los Angeles premiere of \"Abigail\" on April 17, 2024, and (R) Angus Cloud in March 2022.

Alisha Weir and the wider cast of the new film "Abigail" have paid tribute to their co-star Angus Cloud, the Irish American actor who passed away just weeks after filming wrapped .

“Every single cast member was so incredible, and Angus brought so much joy to the set,” Dublin native Weir, 14, told the PA last night, April 17, at the Los Angeles premiere of "Abigail," in which she stars.

“Every single day he would make everybody smile and I’m so so honoured and so grateful, not just to have worked with him, but to have known such a beautiful person who is so amazing and beautiful inside and out.

“He shared that with every single person on the cast.”

Cloud, whose father was from Co Meath, died on July 31 at the age of 25. The Alameda County Coroner later said he died of acute intoxication following an accidental overdose.

Full name is Conor Angus Cloud Hickey, the actor previously said that he was preparing to move to Ireland before he was scouted to feature as Fezco in HBO's hit series "Euphoria."

In "Abigail," Cloud plays a kidnapper, appearing alongside "Scream" star Melissa Barrera, "Downton Abbey's" Dan Stevens, "Big Little Lies" actress Kathryn Newton, and "X-Men" star Kevin Durand.

Speaking on the red carpet on Wednesday evening, Stevens described Cloud as "unique," adding that he had never met anyone like him.

"He was like all of our little brothers on set, and we loved him very much, and we miss him very much," Stevens said.

Stevens added that "Abigail," which was filmed in Ireland , features a tribute to Cloud at the end of the movie.

"I love that this film has a tribute to him at the end, and he would have loved this; he would’ve laughed his arse off," Stevens told reporters.

Durand, meanwhile, said everyone spoke of "how good they felt" when they talked to Cloud on set.

"It was just so nice to meet someone who was just so real," Durand said on Wednesday.

"He wasn’t concerned with being famous; he wanted to be a good person. We all loved him very much and are all very proud of what he did in this film. I hope he's really happy with is."

Will Disneyland get an Avatar land? It’s likely. Here’s what else may be in store

With the city of Anaheim unanimously voting to pass DisneylandForward , the Disneyland Resort will be forever changed.

Twice in the last 69 years, Disneyland has been significantly transformed. Four years after the park opened in 1959, Disneyland added its monorail, the Matterhorn Bobsleds and a submarine ride and expanded Autopia. It was a message that would begin to fulfill Walt Disney’s promise that Disneyland would never be completed.

Huge Disneyland expansion to add new rides, restaurants and hotels wins OK

Anaheim City Council approves a plan to amend zoning rules to allow Disneyland to build new rides, hotels and stores within its existing footprint.

April 17, 2024

More than that, however, it revealed that Disneyland would continue to look to the future. Disneyland in 1959 showed its guests possibilities — a transportation system in the monorail that could remake urban communities, a tease of the freeway system that would reshape travel and a glimpse at the sort of deep-sea excursions only a lucky few could witness. The Matterhorn, while inspired by the film “Third Man on the Mountain,” also was meant to be a transportive experience, to not only bring to Disneyland a new kind of thrill ride but give visitors a taste of international adventure.

Disneyland’s second reimagining came much later. In 2001 the Walt Disney Co. would open Disney California Adventure, the Grand Californian hotel and the Downtown Disney District. These additions would attempt to make Disneyland, the company’s original park, one that could, in theory, rival Florida’s Walt Disney World by becoming a resort that could demand multiday stays.

This expansion succeeded as well, but not overnight.

A map illustrates the area around Disneyland in Anaheim

The original vision of Disney California Adventure proved to be lackluster, relying heavily on on-the-shelf rides and lacking emotion-driven experiences that take visitors out of their daily life. While the Grand Californian is a Craftsman-inspired triumph, Downtown Disney is in the midst of a transformation and is still attempting to outgrow its reputation as a home for chains and midtier eateries.

And now we’re entering a new era of possibilities, one that likely will look much different from the prior two. Modern Disney is centered on intellectual property — or IP, in corporate speak — rather than Walt-era idealism, and the most tantalizing prospects of DisneylandForward center on building around existing structures rather than erecting a new park.

With DisneylandForward, the company won the flexibility to redesign the resort. Zoning rules will be amended so that Disney can add new attractions alongside hotels on the west side of Disneyland Drive. These will, if they come to fruition, likely be extensions of Disneyland or Disney California Adventure rather than a third park. Additionally, a new shopping, dining and entertainment district can be created to the southeast on what is currently the Toy Story parking lot at Katella Avenue and Harbor Boulevard.

Company brass and the DisneylandForward materials have offered teases of what could be built. Most of these have centered on recent expansions at Disney’s international parks, such as the World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland or Zootopia at Shanghai Disney Resort. There’s been little ideological talk about the future of Disneyland, as the focus has centered squarely on popular properties and franchises rather than the resort’s status as a cultural hub and gathering space.

But DisneylandForward came with a pledge. The Walt Disney Co. has promised to spend a minimum of $1.9 billion on Disneyland attractions, lodging, entertainment, shopping and dining in the next 10 years. That money can go quickly, with modern attractions costing sometimes in the high six figures, but the Walt Disney Co. also is in the midst of doubling down on its theme parks. Disney has guaranteed to spend $60 billion over the next 10 years in its experiences division, with at least half of that total dedicated to parks and resorts, according to a recent SEC filing .

It’s safe to say that the next 10 years will shape Disneyland for decades to come. While there’s much to be revealed, there are, perhaps, some safe bets. Here are a few educated guesses as to what to expect with an expanded Disneyland in the near term.

Get ready for Pandora

DisneylandForward materials reference everything from “Tangled” to “Peter Pan” to “Tron” as possible experiences that could come to Anaheim. One word, however, is missing, and it’s one that’s been regularly referenced by Disney brass in recent weeks: “Avatar.”

Disney CEO Bob Iger mentioned it at a recent shareholder meeting, even sharing the “Avatar” concept art, which was referred to as “inspirational artwork.” Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, wrote in a blog post after the shareholder event that further news on Disneyland-related attractions such as the “Avatar” experience was tied to the approval of DisneylandForward.

“We are excited about the stories our guests could experience at Walt’s original theme park destination after approval of DisneylandForward — including the chance to experience all-new Avatar adventures with a visit to Pandora,” D’Amaro wrote . And last night in Anaheim, Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock again teased “Avatar” at the DisneylandForward hearing and vote. Finally, one of Disney’s most respected theme park creatives even posted the “Avatar” concept art on Instagram , expressing the hope of sharing more on the project in the future.

Consider a large-scale “Avatar”-inspired land all but a done deal, and the art shared for Disneyland isn’t an exact replica of Florida’s Pandora — The World of Avatar, which resides in that coast’s Animal Kingdom park. Now where to put it? Expect Pandora to be bound for Disney California Adventure. There’s been speculation that it could replace the area currently served by water ride Grizzly River Run or move into a largely vacant slot of Hollywood Land, but neither is ideal. The latter requires a rerouting of the monorail, and Grizzly River Run remains a popular attraction.

Here’s betting it’s positioned in one of the DCA expansion areas near the Pixar Place Hotel, as that would allow the company to give the James Cameron property a plethora of space, especially if Disney must hide a large show building behind an illusion of floating mountains.

Colorful renderings of potential hotel and dining space.

Expect more hotel options

With Disneyland lacking the acreage of Florida’s Walt Disney World, hotel prices in Anaheim are at a premium. Rooms for the recently revamped Pixar Place Hotel — Anaheim’s “budget” option — can routinely top $500 per night. More hotel space is needed, and if Disneyland goes all-in on “Avatar,” expect lodging and more entertainment options to follow close behind. Disney has long touted development of the Toy Story Lot as prime space for hotel, dining and entertainment modeled after Florida’s Disney Springs district.

The DisneylandForward materials mention the land as “the perfect location to cater to locals, conventioneers, hotel and Disneyland Resort guests with restaurants, hotels, live music, shopping, ticketed shows and theme park experiences.” A new proposed parking structure to the north would solve the parking issue, and Disney has done extensive research on this already, as it was part of an earlier, pre-pandemic planned development known as the “Eastern Gateway.”

Walkways to and from the new parking structure would connect the current resort to the new entertainment area. And while fans may want Disney to rapidly fill the available space with theme park attractions, if the resort is planning to increase capacity it’s first going to need a spot for those guests to park. Additionally, Iger at a recent media event said the company likely would hold back some of its theme park funds so the organization could move on the popularity of new films or franchises.

“We actually have a fairly good idea in the near term of what’s being built, but we’re purposefully not going to allocate it all,” Iger said. “Because who knows? In five years we can end up with a giant hit movie — think ‘Frozen’ — that we may want to mine essentially as an attraction, or a hotel or restaurant in our parks. So you want to maintain some flexibility.”

Arendelle, the fictional kingdom in "Frozen," at twilight.

What about ‘Frozen’s’ Arendelle? Or a ‘Coco’-themed experience?

Beyond “Avatar,” which seems a sure thing as it’s been mentioned by Iger on multiple occasions, any future aspects of DisneylandForward become pure speculation. But a couple of franchises may have higher priority than others.

Disney now has a “Frozen” attraction in Walt Disney World, a land in Hong Kong and experiences in the works for Disneyland Paris and Tokyo DisneySea. Walt Disney Imagineering, the company’s secretive arm devoted to theme park experiences, clearly has done the work on bringing “Frozen” to life in physical spaces, and it stands to reason that expansions to the original Disneyland Park, with its fairy-tale feel, would go more of a Fantasyland-inspired route.

What’s more, re-creating Arendelle in the expansion plots located near the Disneyland Hotel would give Disney the opportunity to construct a second castle, as any extensive changes to park centerpiece Sleeping Beauty Castle are prohibited due to structural limitations . The enduring popularity of “Frozen” seems relatively assured at this point, so bringing the franchise to Disneyland is far from a risk.

The unmissable addition to Disneyland’s Star Tours ride? Space whales

Star Tours has become one of Disneyland’s most versatile attractions, and its latest update nods to series such as ‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘Ahsoka’ and ‘Andor.’

April 9, 2024

But if the company opts to create something unique for Southern California rather than importing Hong Kong’s World of Frozen or Shanghai’s Zootopia, one franchise that seems to be routinely brought up by executives is “Coco.” When mentioning blue-sky concepts last year year at an investor event in Florida, D’Amaro teased “Coco” as a key film that has yet to be properly explored in the Disney parks.

Potrock again mentioned “Coco” in an op-ed in the Orange County Register touting the benefits of DisneylandForward, writing that the initiative could pave the way for “the chance to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos in a ‘Coco’-themed experience.” Disney California Adventure, of course, is home to a Dia de Los Muertos celebration that does center a short “Coco” show, and the property seems especially ripe for Southern California and our heavily Latino communities. That makes it an opportunity to give Disneyland an unique land not found in other parks while also tapping into the region’s diverse fan base. Walt’s original park deserves no less as it looks ahead to closing out its first century.

Watcher Entertainment Launches New Subscription Service for 'Ghost Files,' 'Mystery Files,' and More

Ryan Bergara, Shane Madej, and Steven Lim will release full series of their signature content exclusively on the new platform.

The Big Picture

  • Watcher Entertainment launches its own subscription service for original series, moving away from YouTube for more creative freedom.
  • The Watcher trio aims to deliver high-quality unscripted content through the new platform, prioritizing fan engagement and growth.
  • Beta members who sign up before May 30 can enjoy exclusive discounts and have a say in bringing back old favorite shows on the service.

Watcher Entertainment is moving on from YouTube to its own subscription service. The trio of Ryan Bergara , Shane Madej , and Steven Lim have cultivated a massive following since breaking off from BuzzFeed and are officially taking the next big step with the launch of Watcher, the new home for their original series, including fan-favorites Ghost Files , Mystery Files , and Puppet History . The service is currently in its beta period from now until May 31, when Lim's new food show Travel Season with his former Worth It colleagues Andrew Ilnyckyj and Adam Bianchi launches.

Created in January 2020, the Watcher YouTube channel has racked up 400 million views and amassed 2.9 million subscribers while posting 376 videos and creating 22 original series. Much of the content revolves around the edutainment , food, and paranormal spaces, massively expanding on some of their most popular shows under the BuzzFeed banner. Their new service, which launches with a $5.99/month or $59.99/year price point and will not feature ads , plans to further build on that content with more revenue than the Google-owned video platform could offer. Among the projects on the docket for the new platform is the aforementioned Travel Season , described as a "globetrotting food and travel odyssey" beginning in Seoul, South Korea, as well as an international episode of Ghost Files for Season 3 .

Beta members who sign up from now through May 30 will also be able to subscribe for 30% off their first year as an extra incentive to board the platform before its newest shows arrive. Additionally, any subscribers within that Beta period will be able to help vote for which of Watcher's old shows will be brought back on the new platform, with Dish Granted , Social Distancing D&D , and Spooky Small Talk among the selections. While the channel will remain live with its backlog of videos, Bergara also noted that the first episode of each new season of their shows will be uploaded to give viewers a sample of what Watcher offers. Otherwise, everything else will be exclusive to the subscription service going forward .

Watcher Eyes Greater Growth Away From YouTube

The Watcher trio has been trying to constantly evolve their content and gain more freedom since they announced their intentions to leave behind BuzzFeed. In a previous interview with Collider's Maggie Lovitt ahead of the launch of Ghost Files in 2022 , Bergara and Madej spoke about their desire to flesh out their own ghost-hunting format and how their channel's popularity made that a possibility. Now, however, they believe that reaching their full potential as a media company requires expansion to a platform where they call the shots and benefit even further from fan engagement.

With the announcement of the Watcher service, CEO Lim discussed how YouTube was a crucial step in their filmmaking careers, but believed this was a necessary move for everyone involved. "I never thought we’d leave YouTube, so this move to [Watcher’s own] streaming [service] is a bittersweet one," he said, adding:

"But with the evolution of our content along with the maturation of our fans’ taste, this feels like the best move — putting the future of our company squarely into a platform that allows us to further our relationship with the people who watch and support us."

Bergara, meanwhile, hit on why their standalone streaming service feels like a better fit for their content overall .

"From the very start of Watcher, our goal was to make television-quality unscripted content, and while YouTube helped us start that journey, the only way we can fully realize that vision is to do it on our own platform. So while it’s scary to leave a place that has been an amazing home to us, we know that this is a risk worth taking, just like leaving BuzzFeed was back in 2019.”

Madej added on by assuring that the new platform will only continue the same shows fans have been enjoying throughout Watcher's life on YouTube . "In four short years, we’ve built a library of shows that we’re incredibly proud of, and we’ve done it by sticking to our creative values. We intend to keep delivering the world’s best unscripted entertainment, and the streamer is our way of cutting out the middleman and giving our viewers the opportunity to directly support the stuff they love."

More information on the service and how to sign up are available on the platform's homepage . Check out the video below in which the Watcher creators bid farewell to YouTube and give a rundown on their new service.

Who Is J.J. McCarthy's Fiancée? All About Katya Kuropas

J.J. McCarthy might have been the star of the University of Michigan football team, but he’s had an important M.V.P. by his side off the field: his fiancée, Katya Kuropas.

The quarterback, who was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2024, began dating Kuropas while both were still in high school at Nazareth Academy in La Grange Park, Illinois. In January 2024, he popped the question and the two announced their engagement with a sweet photoshoot .

On their second anniversary in October 2020, McCarthy posted a tribute to his girlfriend on his Instagram.

“They say, once a man finds the right woman for him, he can accomplish anything,” he wrote in the caption. “I am blessed and thankful for finding the right one for me at such a young age. Honored to have spent 2 years of my life with the woman of my dreams, and excited for the years to come.”

After committing to Michigan, McCarthy continued to date Kuropas, who has supported her fiancé in the bleachers throughout his career — including at the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship where Michigan defeated the Washington Huskies.

So, who is J.J. McCarthy’s fiancée? Here’s everything to know about Katya Kuropas and her relationship with the athlete.

They met in high school

McCarthy and Kuropas began dating on Oct. 8, 2018, when he was a sophomore in high school. Though he transferred from Nazareth Academy to IMG Academy due to the cancellation of the football season at Nazareth during the COVID-19 pandemic, the pair stayed together.

On their third anniversary in 2021, McCarthy expressed his gratitude for Kuropas’ unwavering support in an Instagram post .

“3 trips around the sun with the love of my life,” he wrote in the caption. “I honestly do not even know where I would be without this girl in my life. I simply do not deserve her because of the kind of woman she is. The pureness in her heart and soul is just one the many qualities that make this girl so incredible.”

They’ve been dating for over five years

After McCarthy graduated from high school in 2021, he began his college career at Michigan that fall. He officially became the team’s starting quarterback in 2022, and Kuropas has been by his side through it all.

The pair celebrated their fifth anniversary in October 2023 while McCarthy was in his junior year of college. The Michigan star posted a tribute to Kuropas in honor of the day, calling her his “queen,” alongside photos of the two embracing on a boat and some throwback shots of Kuropas when she was younger.

“1,825 days with the love of my life but a million moments that will be remembered and cherished for the rest of my life,” he wrote. “I couldn’t be more grateful for who you are and everything you do! You make me the best version of myself and it has been a complete blessing to continually watch you grow into the amazing woman you are.”

She’s supportive at his games

Kuropas has been a mainstay in the stadiums at McCarthy’s games, often showing up in blue and yellow to cheer on the Wolverines. She documents her festive outfits on her VSCO .

In January 2024, Michigan beat the Washington Huskies to secure their first national championship win since 1997. McCarthy celebrated by kissing his then-girlfriend after the big game.

"I'm so proud of you my love. Words can't describe. You did it!" Kuropas wrote on Instagram. To which McCarthy replied, "Wouldn't be here without you."

On the day before the 2024 NFL Draft, Kuropas shared a carousel of photos on Instagram of her time cheering her fiancé on while he played for Michigan.

"Extremely delayed but… Reminiscing on how amazing this past season was . An abundance of blessings and the best memories. Feeling so grateful for everything that unfolded & for everyone that was part of it!! Sad to see this chapter go, but excited for the next one🫶🏽," she wrote in her caption.

They love to travel together

In July 2023, Kuropas posted a picture of her and McCarthy on a boat on her VSCO — which he later also shared in his fifth-anniversary post for her. The previous year, the two traveled to the mountaintops together, where they posed for a sweet photo in front of a scenic view.

She has met his family

Kuropas has met McCarthy’s family and even joined them on the sidelines. During a New Year’s Eve game in 2022, Kuropas was cheering McCarthy on alongside his parents.

Though the Wolverines lost the game, ESPN panned to McCarthy’s family multiple times during the broadcast as they rooted for the quarterback.

They got engaged in January 2024

Annie Denten/anniedenten.com@anniedenten_

McCarthy proposed to Kuropas on a beach on Jan. 20, 2024. The two announced their engagement — and their new pup Marley! — on Instagram in a joint post.

"Me, You & Marley Forever & Ever✨🤍," they wrote in the caption.
