Welkom bij optimist on tour.

Optimist on Tour is hét rondreizend watersportevenement waar kinderen gratis kunnen kennismaken met de watersport. Onder begeleiding van gecertificeerde en enthousiaste instructeurs varen kinderen hun eerste mijlen in een Optimist en gaan ze kanovaren, suppen of windsurfen. Daarnaast zorgen de aquaroller en het Optimist on Tour Laboratorium, waar kinderen op een speelse manier meer leren over water, voor veel plezier op én naast het water. Zo komen kinderen op een makkelijke, leuke en laagdrempelige manier in aanraking met de watersport!

Kinderen tot en met 12 jaar kunnen zich, met de klas of samen met hun vriendjes en vriendinnetjes, inschrijven om mee te doen met Optimist on Tour. Het enige dat ze nodig hebben, is minimaal zwemdiploma A. Plezier op het water gegarandeerd!

Optimist on Tour bestaat 10 jaar!

Ruim 150.000 kinderen uit heel Nederland gingen de afgelopen tien jaar het water op met het kennismakingsprogramma van het Watersportverbond voor de jeugd, Optimist on Tour. Het programma viert dit jaar haar tiende verjaardag en is nog altijd razend populair bij scholen, gemeenten, verenigingen en organisaties om kinderen uit alle windstreken het water op te krijgen.  De afgelopen tien jaar heeft Optimist on Tour 118 locaties aangedaan verspreid door heel Nederland. Van Meerstad tot aan Middelburg en van Roermond tot Texel. Ruim 2.000 schoolklassen namen deel, naast de vrije inschrijving die voor alle kinderen tot en met 12 jaar toegankelijk was. Ook dit jaar staan er ruim tien locaties door heel Nederland op het programma. Tijdens de Dutch Water Week van 25 mei tot 2 juni in Almere wordt flink uitgepakt om het 10 jarig bestaan van Optimist on Tour te vieren.

• Proeflessen

Sinds de start van Optimist on Tour in 2014 hebben al meer dan 150.000 kinderen kennis gemaakt met de watersport. Om kinderen na hun deelname weer terug te kunnen zien op het water, organiseren watersportverenigingen en vaarscholen een gratis proefles in de buurt. Veel deelnemers hebben de stap gemaakt naar een lokale vereniging of vaarschool. Ben jij toe aan meer avontuur op het water?

01-18-24 meeting.

14 in IHOP and 1 online. Very good presentation about fall prevention “A Matter of Balance.” Kathy Norris and Mary Peshka discussed statistics on falls and educated us that they can be prevented with some training.

The Hobbs family was there making sure we could not stay on our 2024 diet resolutions by selling us Girl Scout cookies.

Optimist of the Decade

We also discussed a bit that our own Jack Barclay is soon going to move back east to be with his son and family. We are thinking of a dinner social on the evening of Feb. 15th to celebrate his very long time with the club and wish him well on the move. 12-28-23 Meeting

Andrea and Grace Holguin, gave us an update on Everyone Rides with Grace (https://www.velocruces.org/ride-with-grace and https://www.facebook.com/EBRWG and https://www.gofundme.com/f/pay-it-forward-with-grace). They are still doing great things by raising money for adaptive bicycles and connecting them to kids in need. Andrea noted that while bicycles are an incredible tool for helping the kids and families cope with their special needs, the bicycles are not considered a medical device and so no insurance will cover the cost. They also discussed the 1st “Reducing the Carbon Footprint” event. That was very successful (pictures way below) and there will be another on Oct. 5th. Andrea also talked about a new non-profit service her daughter has started called “Love from Eve.” This initiative is to help elderly and help with loneliness. We’ll hopefully learn more about this later. Note, I think Andrea mentioned an upcoming fundraiser (a brisket dinner?). 12-14-13 Meeting

We had a good meeting with a great speaker brought in by Mike and his wife. Dr. Elaine Hampton discussed her research and volunteer efforts in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico to help woman learn to fend off sexual abuse. Elaine started a non-profit called “Grains of Love” (Granos de Amor, https://granosdeamor.com) to educate women and also to provide scholarships. It is small, but growing and vital effort in a country working to be more enlightened. The stories she told were sad, but there have been successes too from her efforts. She published a book of her research called Anay’s Will to Learn (https://www.amazon.com/Anays-Will-Learn-Education-Maquiladoras/dp/0292761996). A few of us bought a copy from her and can share if you want to read. It was a really touching discussion.

12-06-23 Dinner Social

Our fearless leader Len organized a social event. After considerable cajoling, he scrapped together several members and spouses to celebrate the season and talk about things other than the Optimist Club. Thank you Len, and based on the picture, everyone had a good time, especially Rachel and Billy, who were great to see!

10-26-23 Meeting

Had a jolly time going over the many Club activities, including Nov. District meeting, how the handball event went, and Tommy gave a great review of his very active JOI Club. He also discussed Scouts. Len had Scott give an update on the Spaceport. Oh, and sell more poinsettias.

10-19-23 Meeting

Discussed Veteran’s Parade. And then had very good discussion of Dyslexia Institute (https://www.facebook.com/p/Dyslexia-Institute-of-Southern-New-Mexico-Inc-100057450617878). Jayleen Reyes, a student there, gave us a good talk about what it is like to deal with dyslexia and how the Institute helped her overcome some of the issues.

10-12-23 Meeting

Speaker today was Veronica Medina, the Mayors Top Teen Committee Chair (https://mayorstopteens.com). Head of a non-profit that gives scholarships to high school students who normally do not receive recognition and who overcome hardships in life. She received a 500 dollar check from our club today.

The Optimist Creed was first published by Christian Larson in 1912 and adopted (in a shortened version) by Optimist International in 1922.

Optimist on tour

Optimist on Tour is the designated travelling water sports event where children can learn about water sports for free. Accompanied by certified and enthusiastic instructors, children sail their first miles in an Optimist and go canoeing, SUPing or windsurfing. In addition, the aqua roller and the Optimist on Tour Laboratory, where children learn more about water in a playful manner, ensure lots of fun on and off the water. This is an easy, fun and accessible way for children to get in touch with water sports!

Children between the ages of 8 and 12 can sign up, together with their friends, to participate in Optimist on Tour. The only thing you need is at least swimming certificate A. Fun on the water guaranteed!

The event  Microsite  can be found   here . It will be the place to go to find out about the venue, as well as travel and accommodation information.

All IODA Members have recently been sent their username and a new 2023 Password to be used for the Online Registration System for all our IODA Championships. Please note that the 2022 Passwords from last year will not work.

Mark your calendars - the  first entry deadline is February 15 th . So, hurry to register your team. You don’t want to miss it!

We welcome all our members to attend the 2023 Optimist World Championship as together we will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Championship as well as the 50th Anniversary of the Optimist becoming an International Class!

The organizers are planning for the Optimist world to come to Costa Brava, Spain to celebrate these two significant milestones!

An event not to be missed!

• Optimist on Tour

Kinderen die enthousiast worden van activiteiten op het water, zoals suppen, kanovaren of zeilen, kunnen 13, 14 en 15 juli vast in hun agenda zetten. Donderdag tot en met zaterdag komt Optimist on Tour naar Medemblik! Iedereen met zwemdiploma A, tot en met 12 jaar kan dan gratis watersporten onder begeleiding van ervaren en gecertificeerde instructeurs. Daarnaast leren deelnemers aan de activiteiten meteen van alles over water in het Waterlaboratorium!

Gratis het water op! Optimist on Tour Medemblik is een initiatief van de gemeente Medemblik, de KNRM en het Watersportverbond. Op donderdag en vrijdag komen kinderen met hun klas naar het water om kennis te maken met verschillende watersporten en het Waterlaboratorium. Na schooltijd (15:00-18:00 uur) en op zaterdag (9:30-17:30 uur) kunnen alle kinderen tot en met 12 jaar, samen met hun vriendjes en vriendinnetjes, gratis meedoen met Optimist on Tour.

Programma en aanmelden Door je alvast via de website optimistontour.nl/inschrijven in te schrijven, kun je een plekje reserveren. Ook kun je je op locatie aanmelden bij de balie. In beide gevallen zijn bij de aanmelding toestemming van een ouder/verzorger en zwemdiploma A voorwaarden om mee te kunnen doen.

Na inschrijving krijgen deelnemers een zwemvest uitgereikt en volgen ze een korte theorieles op de kant. Daarna mogen ze zelf aan het roer zitten van een Optimist, kanovaren of suppen, een programma van in totaal 1 uur.

Waterlaboratorium Nadat de kinderen het water op zijn geweest, kunnen ze een bezoek brengen aan het Waterlaboratorium. In het Waterlab veranderen alle waterfans spontaan in heuse onderzoekers met witte jas, bril en pipetjes om allerlei proefjes met water te doen. Ook kinderen die wel fan zijn van watersporten, maar het nog niet aandurven om het zelf te proberen, kunnen zich hier uitleven. Waarom blijven ijzeren punaises bijvoorbeeld drijven op het water? En hoe zuiver je water zodat je het kan drinken? Met deze proefjes leren kinderen over schoon water en een duurzame toekomst.

Data & locatie Op 13, 14 en 15 juli 2023 meren we aan ter hoogte van Oosterhaven 36, Medemblik.

Inspired by the popular Disney movie, “High School Musical” follows the journey of Troy, Gabriella and their friends as they navigate the challenges of high school while discovering their love for music and theater.
