29 Murals in Nashville: A Practical Guide to Mind-Blowing Art

Nashville’s street art scene is on fire! The city is known for its music, but the Nashville murals are taking over as a major cultural phenomenon. This mural guide is designed to help you find the most Instagrammable, colorful and mind boggling murals.

I Believe in Nashville Murals

Nashville’s Mural Culture is Exploding

Spotting street art is one of the coolest things to do in Nashville , and they are going about it in a whole new way. Many groundbreaking street art cities, like Bristol, England  have a culture whose gritty graffiti beginnings were driven by an angry youth counter-culture. Not so with Nashville. They skipped the whole disaffected, hip hop, graffiti phase and leaped straight to a fully formed big walls movement. Still other cities, like London’s Brick Lane , have a lot of furtive illegal works appearing (and disappearing) with great regularity. Less so in Nashville. While they do have guerrilla works and graffiti, more of the street art that you’ll find there has sprung from deliberate, commissioned projects organized by collectives.

All of this gives Nashville’s mural scene a clean, bright look that is very Instagrammable, making it popular with a broad cross section of the population. Hey, I’m a street art fanatic, so I’ll skulk down any dark alleyway if it’ll net me a Banksy. But a lot of people prefer their street art to be more accessible and Nashville has that in spades.

Take a Tour or Do it DIY?

There isn’t just one street or neighborhood for finding murals in Nashville. The locations are spread all over the city. For a visitor, especially one who doesn’t have a car, finding them can be tricky. So, I’m recommending two ways for you to see the murals; take a street art tour or do a DIY tour to just a few neighborhoods.

The formal tour is great because it covers a lot of ground and you’ll get backstory on the artists and murals. However, the tour doesn’t cover the downtown area. Alternatively, the benefits of a DIY street art tour is that you will then have time to further explore the neighborhoods, do some shopping and have a bite. The DIY info below shows you four neighborhoods that you can easily get to and explore on your own.

Guido Van Helten murals in Nashville Old Man

This mural and the one below it were created by Guido Van Helten . This mural tells a complete story and it yanked a very emotional response from me. Van Helten paints achingly detailed portraits and the man in this one is a resident of the neighborhood. These murals are located in at 1407 51st Ave in the Nations neighborhood. If you don’t have a car, you can see it on the mural tour. You can also find more of Van Helten’s silo work on the amazing Silo Trail in Victoria Australia and some additional murals in Reykjavik .

Nashville Mural Tours

I took a tour with Nashville Mural Tours and it ticked all the boxes. It covered all of the best Instagram spots, some secret and hard to find locations, all delivered with a big dose of southern hospitality. The 2.5 hour tour costs $35 and it’s worth every penny. Mary is so serious about her tours, she has even festooned her van in street art. She makes a point of staying up on all of the latest murals in Nashville and she understands the value of the ‘gram. She even offers special private birthday tours for parties of twelve.

Her tours are always evolving, but they touch on art in The Gulch, 12South, Elliston Place garage and the above Van Helten industrial location. She runs tours twice a day and I recommend that you book ahead.

Four Neighborhoods with Clusters of Street Art

The following four areas offer great Nashville mural locations. They all have a high density of art and they are fairly easy to get to. You can easily build them into your Nashville itinerary by mixing in mural spotting with other tourism activities and/or making a point of going out to eat or drink in the neighborhood.

Nashville’s Downtown Core

The Nashville Murals tour doesn’t cover the downtown core, but there’s a lot of street art to be found there. They are all sprinkled in with the bars and museums and you can fairly easily cover them in a two hour self-guided walking tour. Simply proceed down 5th Avenue past the Ryman as far as Church street to spot the remaining murals mentioned below.

Niels Meulman calligraphy mural - Nashville

This was my favorite mural downtown. The sweeping calligraphy technique has such scale and the message was romantic and hopeful. People walk past this mural all day long without pulling back far enough to see the message.

“As long as the moon shall rise. As long as the rivers flow. As long as the sun will shine. As long as the grass will grow.”

Beau Stanton mural - downtown nashville. Woman pouring water, pink and turquoise color

You can find more of Rone in his native Australia in this guide to street art in Melbourne .

Gibson guitar mural in Nashville alley

The four preceding murals were all part of a project coordinated by the Nashville Walls Project and some of it was sponsored by Gibson guitars. The Walls project has a goal to bring world class artists to Nashville and they are succeeding so far by scoring Guido Van Helten , Louis Masai , Ian Ross and Sentrock .

Angels & Monsters mural in Nashville- yellow angel figure

This neighborhood just west of the tracks is small but hip and popular for breakfast at Biscuit Love and music at the Station Inn. It’s about a mile west of the downtown core and you can walk or pick up a free ride on the Music City Circuit bus.

Nashville wings mural Kelsey Montague

This is mural is one of the most Instagrammed shots in Nashville. Notice how Montague customized the wings to feature the local music culture. I’m not the Queen of Selfies (by a long shot), but it was very fun getting one at this location. If you do it DIY, be aware there that you may find a line to get your shot. Go at an odd time of day to avoid waiting.

Ian Ross mural in The Gulch

The 12South Neighborhood

Welcome to your next great spot for a street art selfie. Every mural in this neighborhood demands it! 12South offers up a heavy dose of the adorbs, with the Draper James store, 5 Daughters bakery and Frothy Monkey coffee shop. It’s three miles south of town and getting there will cost ~$8 on UberX.

Nashville Looks Good on You Mural

There is also a parking lot located behind the store that has an interesting mural resembling paint chips.

Peace out Nashville street art in 12South

Oh boy, did I “heart” their donuts. Can you say 100 layers of dough wrapped in a tall sugary package? Eating just one of them is a meal, so stop there for both the mural…and the calories.

Elliston Place Garage

The Elliston Place garage is yet another Nashville Walls project. The whole thing, including the stairwells, is covered. It was a home grown project and most of the participating artists are from Nashville. The garage located at Elliston Place @ Louise Ave. You can find it just east of Centennial Park, near Vanderbilt. Getting there from downtown is an ~$8 Uber ride.

East Nashville

Nashville mural in Cleveland Park slay dragons

If you find yourself in East Nashville (and you should, because the eatin’ is good in that neighborhood), check out the new mural above. It was commissioned by the musician Drew Holcomb . You can find it at 1224 Meridian street in the Cleveland Park neighborhood.

There is a cluster of murals along Gallatin between Ordway and the Kroger at Eastland, including a cute hot air balloon by Kelsey Montague at The Cleo. There is another cluster on the 600-800 block of Main Street.

Excited to find your article. The artist for the dragons mural is Kim Radford. She has other murals around East Nashville. Notably Ham Baby on Mitchell’s Delicatessen and most recently Lilly Hiatt’s album promo at Grimey’s. She did one with an eagle and flag motif on a bail bond building that was unfortunately was destroyed by the tornado last week.

You're right. I never think of Nashville and murals in the same thought. Clearly, that needs to change. As a Philadelphian, I'm very partial to street murals. Philly has a vibrant mural scene with over 3,600 around the city, mostly sponsored by the Philadelphia Mural Arts program. It was originally started as an anti-graffiti initiative and has been very successful. Neighbors are included in planning and painting the murals and they largely stay free of graffiti even in the roughest neighborhoods. Come visit and see them. Organized "trolley" tours are available and there is a self guided walking tour of murals in Center City Philadelphia.

Finding the Best Street Art in Nashville

street art tour nashville

When you think of art and Nashville, music is probably the first thing that comes to mind. After all, it’s known as “Music City” for a reason! But visitors will be just as thrilled with the vibrant public art scene.

In Nashville, street art is thriving! New murals are popping up constantly in its neighborhoods, including work by local artists as well as international muralists. And while we’ll recommend some of our favorites, there are dozens more throughout the city. Let yourself just wander around and you’re sure to discover murals that are beautiful, whimsical, and thought-provoking.

Explore Murals in Music City

Our city tours are second to none! Choose the Tennessee scavenger hunt that best suits you, or just hop on our Nashville art walk . This top-rated tour is the best way to see murals in Nashville. You’ll view incredible pieces from Rone, Harikut, Curiot, and more as you roam through the city, learn fun facts, and complete trivia and photo challenges. Each participant with a ticket gets a role to play in this awesome interactive adventure. It’s truly a unique way to travel!

History of Nashville Street Art

Murals and street art in cities such as Detroit were an evolution of hip-hop culture and the graffiti that went with it. Not so in Nashville. The city, with its flourishing country music scene, has always been a mecca for artists. Muralists noticed the welcoming vibe and began to paint here, going from zero to public art in no time.

Where to See the Best Street Art in Nashville

Street art is located all over Nashville. Almost every neighborhood has some sort of mural, public or private. But there are some “can’t miss” neighborhoods that are especially worth exploring! Here are our favorites.

East Nashville

This neighborhood is filled with street art! Almost everywhere you look, Nashville’s street artists have turned into a canvas: sides of buildings, construction zones, residential fences, businesses. They’re all brimming with some of Nashville’s best art.

You can park and explore on foot, or drive down Gallatin Pike for more.

One of the top mural neighborhoods in Nashville is also one of the most walkable. Germantown is a big draw for tourists and residents alike, thanks to its bustling foodie scene.

West Nashville

The majority of West Nashville’s murals are located along Charlotte Avenue. While a great number of local muralists paint here, at last count 14 of the murals were installed by Off the Wall – Charlotte Ave .

Off the Wall was founded and is curated by muralist Tinsley Anne Dempsey as a collaboration with the Greater Nashville Arts & Business Council.

The murals that line Charlotte Avenue are easy to walk along and view. However, the narrow sidewalk makes it difficult to take full pictures — we suggest taking pictures from across the street, instead.

This is a smaller neighborhood, which makes it highly walkable. But the high density of murals makes it a great stop on your mural tour; you’ll see murals tucked away on almost every corner and alley of 12South

Best Examples of Nashville Street Art

Ready to see some of the best examples of street art in Music City? To get you started on your Nashville mural tour, here are some of our favorite murals.

On Air Nashville

By: Mobe and What Creative Group

Location: Nashville Airport

You don’t even have to leave the airport to see your first mural in Nashville! You’ll find this mural in the parking garage, at the pickup point for hotel shuttles, taxis, and rideshares.

This incredibly vivid mural plays on two things: its airport location and Nashville’s musical reputation. In the foreground, an airplane is taking off from a runway. Just beyond the plane is Nashville’s skyline. To highlight the nighttime setting, another plane is flying in front of the full moon in the upper right-hand corner.

The mural is creatively painted to look like a radio station booth. An old-fashioned standup mic is in the lower right-hand corner. At the top, the “on air” sign is lit up. The name of the city is painted as a red neon sign.

By: Eastside Murals

Location: 5th Avenue North and Monroe Street

This monotone mural is done completely in shades of blue. From an almost white pastel blue to a night sky navy, the many hues make this piece simply stunning.

This mural showcases the sea (not seen often in land-locked Nashville!) and the sky. Frothy waves break across the bottom of the mural. And at the top, jagged lightning breaks through the clouds. An oversized whale takes up much of the mural.

I Believe in Nashville

By: Adrien Saporiti (formerly of DCXV Industries)

Locations: Marathon Village, Riverside Village, 12South

When Saporiti painted the first mural in his “I Believe in Nashville” series, he had no idea he’d end up painting two more! His painting is now an iconic piece of Nashville street art. It’s been posted on social media more than a million times.

The painting combines elements from the American flag and the Tennessee state flag. Red and white stripes run vertically through the painting. In the center are the three blue circles with white stars from the Tennessee state flag.

The top and bottom of the mural are composed of thick navy-blue stripes. Across the top, in white block letters, begins the sentiment: “I Believe in.” Across the bottom, in more stylized letters, you’ll find just one word: Nashville.

#WhatLiftsYou Nashville Wings

By: Kelsey Montague

Location: 11th Ave. South (near Biscuit Love)

This is one of the first of many eye-catching murals in the Gulch. The entire backdrop has been painted black. Against it, a giant pair of angel wings stands out beautifully.

The oversized wings (over 20 feet tall) are painted only in white. The outer edges of the wings are covered in the outline of feathers. Inside the wings, you’ll see the outlines of a series of amorphous shapes, lines, and squiggles, many of them repeated. One of the few recognizable shapes is the neck of a guitar, with strings, found in each wing.

This is one of the most photographed and Instagrammed murals in Nashville, along with the I Believe in Nashville Mural. The wings are just far enough apart so that you can stand in the middle, posing with your wings. To the right, a set of kiddie-sized angel wings is waiting to take pictures with the little ones.

#PeaceLoveGoodDeeds

By: Unknown

Location: 2705 12th Ave. South

This mural is truly a blast of color and good vibes! Located in the small but mural-friendly area of 12South, it’s a riotous display of Nashville’s funky, eclectic street art style.

The background is what can only be described as an exploding rainbow. Its colors start in the center and extend in bright, vivid hues all the way to the edges of the wall. Splashed across the mural, angled just so, is one word: Nashville, in bold white letters.

In the center of the mural is its heart, literally. A hand makes a peace sign, with the splayed middle and index fingers replacing the letter V in “Nashville.” The hand has been painted a colorfully bright blue, and filled in with musical notes that almost look like a paisley pattern. In between the fingers is a vivid red heart.

Draper James Wall

By: Unknown

Location: 2608 12th Ave. South

Reese Witherspoon’s Nashville shop is a must-stop for many tourists, and so is its mural.

A representation of the shop’s focus on the classics, the mural is covered with one of the most traditional of patterns: gingham. The entire background is composed of a sky blue and white gingham pattern. Black letters welcome you: “Greetings from… Draper James.”

The store must have realized how popular the mural would be, since they placed a white bench in front of it for photo ops!

Make Music Not War

By: Relax Max

Location: 2902 12th Avenue South

This smaller, unassuming mural is nonetheless one of the most popular in Nashville.

The light gray background is hardly noticeable, as it fades into the concrete block facade of the building. In the center, two records highlight Nashville’s reputation as the country music capital.

The standout feature of this wall, however, is its message. “Make Music Not War” it proclaims in tall white letters.

It’s Gonna Be OK

By: Sarah Liz Tate

Location: 3020 Charlotte Ave

With its brilliantly white background and bright shapes, this mural stands out amongst the Nashville street art pieces on Charlotte Ave.

The whimsical shapes dotting the mural are all reflections of nature. Leaves, flowers, and petals dance around, most of them unrecognizable as a specific variety, but all in bloom.

The hand lettering, part print and part cursive, located across the center of the mural reassures us that “It’s Gonna be O.K.”  Tate, a Nashville illustrator, used this piece to highlight mental health awareness.

Elliston Parking Garage

By: The Nashville Walls Project artists, Audi Adams, Nathan Brown, Chase, Tess Erlenborn, Folek, Daniel Lane, Emily Miller, Mobe, Brian Wooden, and Chris Zidek

Location: 207 Louise Avenue

This Music Row project was created by some of the top artists in Nashville, who covered the entire garage with murals. Even the stairwells are painted!

The exterior mural, painted on the side of a parking garage, perfect circles and triangles overlap in pastel shades of lilac, mint green, sky blue, and mauve. The shapes are outlined in black and many of them are filled with repeating geometric patterns such as lines, circles, squares, and triangles.

Other murals at Elliston Parking Garage include colorful geometric shapes by Nathan Brown and a vibrant staircase by Folek and Chase.

#WhatLiftsYou Hot Air Balloon

By: Kesley Montague

Location: 1034 W. Eastland Ave.

This mural is another one in Montague’s fantastic “What Lifts You” series. Like her Nashville Wings, it is outrageously oversized, standing at least 30 feet tall.

The bottom of the mural incorporates a 3-D effect, with an actual hot air balloon basket you can stand in for pictures. Above that, the mural begins. It starts simply enough, with painted black ropes connecting the basket to the balloon. And that’s where the fun begins!

Set against the blue sky background, the balloon itself is 3-4 stories of blues, greens, purples, black, and white. The fabric of the balloon features everything from oversized flowers to paisley to polka dots. If you look carefully, you’ll find hidden figures including a teacup and a bugle.

Google Fiber Geometrics

By: Nathan Brown

Location: 1012 Woodland Street

A flat gray wall in Five Points came alive thanks to this rainbow-colored mural. Geometric shapes are composed of broad lines, shaded in ombre hues. Squares, rectangles, and triangles turn a drab walkway into a work of Nashville art thanks to muralist Nathan Brown, one of Nashville’s most prolific artists.

Nashville Looks Good on You

Location: 12th Avenue, behind the Frothy Monkey Coffee Shop

There isn’t much to say about this mural, yet it’s one of the top Instagrammed spots on the Nashville street art scene! The plain black wall with white letters simply announces: “Nashville Looks Good on You.”

By: Jason Woodside

Location: 1112 Laurel Street

One of the most colorful murals in Downtown Nashville, this wall is certain to make you smile!

Broad angled stripes are painted in almost every color imaginable. These have been filled in with stripes and dots in contrasting colors.

For this mural, New Zealand muralist Woodside was brought into town by the Nashville Walls Project.

A Work of Street Art: The Best Murals in Nashville

As Nashville continues to grow, so does its street art scene. Murals are everywhere in Nashville, and travelers come from all the world over to see them. And the more I deviate from my normal route in Nashville, the more I see bold, new murals popping up daily. They’re unavoidable, they’re stunning, and they really dress the place up. In fact, they inspired us to start our own public art nonprofit focusing on creative placemaking and murals in Tennessee a few years back.

This post was last updated February 2023. All images on this site are registered with the U.S. Copyright Office and are not to be used without permission.

I’ve spent the past several years photographing every mural I’ve stumbled upon, by foot, by scooter and by car. This is an exhaustive list of murals in Nashville we’ve tracked down in every corner, but my no means all of them, as street artists are adding to Music City’s cultural fabric daily as the city continues to boom and more Nashville murals are torn down by construction or tornadoes.

Nashville Murals and Walls: The Best Street Art in Music City

Still, whether you live locally and are looking for a staycation idea or traveling around Music City’s many neighborhoods on your next weekend getaway, I hope you’ll use this handy map as your guide—and drop descriptions of any murals you find that I may have missed in the comments so I can add them accordingly.

How to see murals in Nashville

The great news about the boom in murals is that there are several delightful guided mural tours you can take if you don’t have a car or are on a tight schedule and want to see as much as possible in a short amount of time.

Where to stay in Nashville

Before I get into the nitty-gritty of breaking down all the murals by neighborhood, let’s talk about where to stay in Nashville. A lot of the best street art is located in East Nashville and several other notable installs are clustered around downtown, as well. My personal favorite area are Five Points, Lockeland Springs, Music Row and Germantown, and you can use this map widget to search Nashville hotels and vacation rentals by price and neighborhood.

Nashville airport

You needn’t even leave Nashville International Airport (BNA) before seeing your first mural; it’s in the parking garage where the hotel shuttles, taxis and ride-shares all come and pick you up.

I prefer the Marathon Village location as it’s usually devoid of large crowds (though parking is tricky), plus   you can visit Nelson’s Greenbrier and Corsair distilleries while there.

Hillsboro Village is changing dramatically; it’s now easier to arrive on foot than find parking as buildings are torn down and others are put up. But if you can nab a coveted spot, there are a pair of paid lots behind Pancake Pantry and Fido just off Belcourt Avenue (be sure and get a ticket before you leave your car as meter maids here are brutal!). An hour is all you need to wander this small area on the Vanderbilt campus and snap a couple shots of its walls.

Many of the murals along Charlotte Avenue are located along one stretch installed by Off the Wall Charlotte , the brainchild of artist and curator Tinsley Anne Dempsey that was backed by the Greater Nashville Arts & Business Council with several corporate sponsors. These 14 murals are a bit tricky to reach by foot, so I recommend parking in the lot in front of AVO and crossing the street at the traffic light with your photographer poised on the other side of the busy road.

Midtown is getting a pop of color with some new street art painted down alleys and on parking garages. Music Row, which has a protected historic overlay, on the other hand, isn’t exactly brimming with street art, so you have to go in search of fun pieces like this by heading down Roy Acuff Lane on foot. Pro tip: Also grab a photo with the guitar installations outside of Studio B while you’re there.

Of all the neighborhoods in town, East Nashville is the one most brimming with street art of all kinds—you’ll find it on the sides of buildings, you’ll see it hidden beneath construction zones, you’ll spy paintings on the backs of residential fences. The easiest way to see it all is to hop in the car with a friend and drive down Gallatin Pike to see what all you can find.

This post is constantly evolving as murals get torn down in the construction boom and others are painted over as properties change hands. There will always be new Nashville murals left to photograph, so I’ll add to this list as I find them. Feel free to drop me a note in the comments highlighting any walls or gorgeous pieces of street art I’ve missed!

This is so fun! I had no idea there were so many murals in Nashville now.

SO many! I can’t keep up. Downtown is a beast of its own. Come visit and we’ll tackle them together 😉

Just a couple of corrections- the mural on the side of what was the Family Wash in East Nashville is by Herb Williams but Folek my have worked on it. Everyone collaborates around here. Also, the mural at Jerry’s Artarama is by Marshall Hall and Hannah Holgate.

Thank you, Marshall! Changes made. The Artarama ones are some of my favorites EVER.

Love this! It is so helpful to have all the murals AND addresses in one place! The new Taylor Swift wings in The Gulch is a new one to add!

Sadly, the Taylor Swift ME! wings by Kelsey Montague was just a temporary mural for two weeks to promote the new single. They painted it on plywood and already took it down. =(

There are a few in south Nashville off Lafayette by the artist Lowkey

Excellent compilation! I was surprised to find excellent murals inside (well on the patio) Greco Street Food in East Nashville. Good eats, great art- worth checking out.

Thanks, Amanda! I still haven’t eaten at Greko (though my friend owns it) so that’s double the reason to get over there for lunch =)

I absolutely adored your post! It makes me want to Nashville right now!!! How many murals!!! I love them all 💙💚💜❤️

I knew you of all people would love the new Nashville 😉 So many Instagram moments in the making!

So beautiful, I love all the murals!

Add this to your list of reasons to come to Nashville, Noelle 😉

I work at Hawkers in East Nash (which used to be The Family Wash) at 626 Main St and we have an adorable lucky cat mural on the side of the building! Also a Chinese Zodiac mural inside by the same artist. Can’t remember the artist’s name off the top of my head but there’s a video of him painting on the Hawkers insta (@eathawkers)

Mobe did that! He’s a good friend of ours and has painted a few pieces for our nonprofit and our home. I can’t wait to get back and see his new piece and try the food!

Love those murals. This is the best article i read today. Thanks for sharing.

Is the Johnny Cash wall still there?

So pretty and so cool! I’ve been meaning to do the same here in Richmond. We’ve got a ton of street art and I need to just take an afternoon and wander around the city to find some of it.

I have a blogger friend in VA who’s been posting a lot of Richmond murals lately, and now I must come visit!

YES! If you come to Richmond, let me know. I sort of like it here and would love to link up for a brew or two. Or a bourbon. #ladieswhobooze

If I come to Richmond, I full expect you to be my tour guide. And on that tour, I expect a cocktail stop at least once an hour. K?

YES. Hells yes.

Such a wonderful post.. As you describe in detail is very impressive.. and its all true.

Wow ! So nice post. I want more post like this in near future.

That avo mural has to be one of my top 10!!! I had no idea Nashville had that many murals. It’s on my list to visit!

The street art scene really has just taken off in the past two to three years, I’d say!

Great list… Just a few corrections… I was the lead artist on the dragon refresh. Adam and David gave us their blessing so the current design was lots of work and was a BIG community effort. Eastside murals was on the lettering with me on lead.

Also the bike mural at MOAB beside VanDyke credited to Sterling is mine @chicnhair Thx More to come!!!

There is another great one downtown on the corner of 3rd & Commerce (or Church,). “Hold Nothing Back”. Vivid colors, has an Audi sports car in the center, an electric guitar also. The hashtags have been painted over but there used to be a #audi with some others, so guessing Audi may have sponsored it?

One slight addition to the Skye Walker huge 90′ mural at the Wig Store in East Nash. According to his website it is called “Terra Drift”, and was number 14 out of 22 murals he painted from 2017-2019 coast to coast. on his Sea2Sea mural tour. He is based in Southern California, lives near San Diego at Cardiff By The Sea. Is a surfer dude, born in Big Bear, CA. So has a love of nature, especially mountains and the ocean. His dad was a muralist and he used to help him starting when Skye was 8 yrs old.

Love your website /blog… So detailed and up to date!

Thank you, Rosie! Very helpful with the Sky Walker bit. I happened upon that one, literally, the week after he painted both his Nashville ones just by sheer chance and couldn’t find any information about it at the time. I’ll update accordingly. I follow him online, but that’s fun info to have about his upbringing—we have some mutual muralist friends who say he’s awesome, so I really hope to meet him someday. I appreciate the info!

I saw the Audi one the other day when I was out shooting new ones to update this post sometime in the next month! It actually was painted over one of the ones featured above. I try to steer away from ones that are ads and not original art, because then it gets sticky but I never have figured out where to draw the line (although my husband *does* drive an Audi!). For example, the Born in Tennessee mural—I can’t tell if it’s a Mountain Dew ad or just meant to be nostalgic.

Thanks for putting this together! I’m finally making a trip to Nasvhille this Fall and will definitely check a lot of these out. I also plan to stalk your blog for restaurant recs as well 🙂

Yay for your Nashville trip! I look forward to seeing which ones you visit =)

The murals are amazing and this is so much fun!! Just looking at your photos I know that you had such a great time! If I ever go to Nashville I definitely need to go take a picture with the wings!

The wings one is probably the second most popular spot after the I Believe in Nashville. So inspirational!

Hey, Kristin! I came across your blog today as I was surfing through twitter. The murals you have shared in your post are simply breathtaking! They add life to the concrete structures they adorn, don’t they? I think, we all could do with a lot more of such vibrancy in the concrete jungles we all live in!

P.S. I had a pen pal from Nashville long ago (almost 20 years ago) and I guess that’s what attracted me to your wonderful blog!

Hi Shilpa! That’s so fun that you had a pen pal from Nashville. I hope you get the chance to visit someday in person if you haven’t already =) I do agree that murals can add so much depth to a boring cityscape!

I am already visiting Nashville and enjoy every moment there.

I’m so glad you liked it here!

So nice and wonderful article I like your this great job. Good job dear.

I had absolutely no idea that street art/murals was a huge phenomenon in Nashville!

Very interesting indeed!

I mean, just another reason for you to come visit me, right? 😉

Gorgeous photos! Nashville is such a cool city. I had no idea about all the street art. Must make a return trip!

I’m sure there will even be more that has popped up by the time you return!

I love street art. That guy on the side of the building looks awesome!

Has the street art trend overtaken Holland yet?

Wow, these are amazing, I had no idea Nashville had so much gorgeous street art. If/when I get to the states I’m definitely going to see if I can find some of these! Great photos and helpful tips for finding them too, thanks for sharing. 🙂

If/when you get to the states, I hope Tennessee will be one of your first stops 😉

This is the most comprehensive list of Nashville street art I’ve seen! I’m heading there in a week and really look forward to finding some of the less publicized works you’ve featured here.

Did you find any good ones, Danielle?

We wound up having less time than planned in Nashville – we chose to leave Monday afternoon instead of Tuesday morning so we could beat any rains from Irma among other little reasons. So we stuck to the murals around 12South for pictures. Did catch the Take Flight piece as we drove down Charlotte, and really looking forward to making it out to East Nashville next time.

Love hearing about new cities like this ! Nashville has so many cool murals around town 🙂 And I thought this city was only known for its country music ! Thank you for sharing all the well-known Nashville murals and the address to find them. If I ever find myself in Nashville and have some spare time between visiting amazing restaurants and taking in the country music history, I would stop by some of these beautiful works of art.

Nashville is definitely more than country music! It’s a hotbed for start-ups and tech companies, a foodie city and a cocktail capital. You should check it out sometime =)

What an artistic spot! Love it

Omg didn’t realize there were so many cool walls in Nashville! I’ve been dying to go and this makes me want to go even more! I will definitely save this and hunt these down when I finally get there!

SO many. I honestly can’t keep up!

Wow! I spent a whole weekend in Nashville and didn’t see any of these. Gives me a reason to go back!

Always happy to give anyone an excuse to return to Nashville 😉

I have seen some of these on instagram so I knew Nashville has a lot of street art, but you found some great ones I hadn’t seen before. I really want to go to Nashville because I love country music, but I need to make sure I have some time to see the art too!

Yes! You definitely need a Thursday-Sunday long weekend, if not longer, to really get a taste of Nashville =)

screen arts are really beautiful.

I love (and always write about) street art. I adore these walls! When I get to Nashville, I will definitely be checking these out!

Let me know if you need a +1 and I’ll tag along with you 😉

In your every post your photographs have a unique charm they are very attractive and i found them appealing, so in this post they are amazing and the quality is out of the world.

Being an artist I can understand how much effort it requires to create an artwrk. Keep up the gud work love those street art of yours.

So much work! I wish I had that kind of talent.

Your post is really awesome. You done a great job through your paintings. Thanks for sharing.

Love these murals, you captured them so beautifully with your vibrant pictures. Makes me want to book a trip to Nashville just to see these!

Thank you so much, Priya! It is a very colorful city indeed.

There’s a great spot in the parking lot behind Downtown Presbyterian (5th & Church, a block uphill from the Ryman’s back side) where you can see three murals.

I JUST saw this one this week when I parked there for Alison Krauss/David Gray. Sadly, I didn’t have my camera on me, though, boo!

I live in Indianapolis and we have a bunch popping up around town and I’ve started a blog post of my own about some of the more interesting ones. I’ve visited a few from Nashville on your blog and hopefully I can make it back soon to see some of the others! Finding wall murals is a favorite thing of mine to do whenever I travel.

I love that, Kelly! I’m *dying* to go to Indy; those mid-sized, underrated cities are usually our favorites, and I will definitely bookmark your post when it’s live in hopes that I’m there soon! (Is it up yet?)

It’s up! Here’s the link for reference: https://lostbetweenthepages.wordpress.com/2017/10/11/discovering-indys-wall-murals/ .

I have been mural hoping for a year now. I have seen all that you show, and bunches more. 2 questions, The Rainbow Wall. I have looked for it and found one by Aaron on 2nd Ave. on the side of a building. Is that it? I was thinking it would be a big wall. Maybe not. Also, I have looked for the Willie Nelson Mural on Almond St. for over a year. I must be blind! Now I think the building it was on has been torn down. Do you know anything about it? I discovered a few weeks ago the Johnny Cash Mural is “open” again. They were working on the building next door for a year (maybe longer) and it had been blocked off. I hope it stays. The building its on has been sold.

Hi Joye! The rainbow wall is on the west side of 12th Avenue South right across from Draper James, Edley’s, etc. It’s kind of hidden as you’d only see it if you were driving northbound.

I really hope they didn’t demo the Willie wall! That would be sad. Where it is (or used to be) is right where they put up the new Bridgestone tower, so they very well might have knocked it down in the process =/

Ok, I have seen the rainbow 🌈 wall in 12 South. I have had 2 different address for the Willie Nelson Mural. But have not been able to find it at either address. The 2 addresses I have are 398 Almond St and 378 Almond St. I was in the vicinity of the Johnny Cash Mural and Bridgestone a few weeks back. The GPS lead me there and there was a hole in the ground where they had torn a building down. But when that building was still up I couldn’t find it. So I was in the wrong place or blind.

The other rainbow Mural I found is at 221 2nd Ave N. Lots to see downtown. We parked and walked all over DT. Be sure and go up 6th to the dog Mural. Go across the street to the Hermitage Hotel and see the famous Art Deco men’s restroom! Iconic!!! Yes, they let women inside. Great photo fun!

Yes, I love the Hermitage bathroom, so cool! The Willie Nelson mural used to be VERY visible before the Omni, MCC and all that other development went up, but you’re right—looks like it was demolished =(

http://nashville.citymomsblog.com/guide-nashville-murals-part-iv-downtown/

I’ll have to update the text. Thanks for pointing that out!

Oh that is sad. I really wanted to see it.😞 I recommend going to see the Merle Haggard Mural. It is at the corner of Clifton Ave. and 25th Ave N. it is on the side of the building that faces the railroad tracks. Went to Norf Wall at 817 18th Ave N, there are 2 others with it. 4303 Albion St.has a cool one. Printers Press at1618 State St. Science Mural 1250 Foster Ave at Nashville School of Arts🎭. That is 8th Ave S and Drexel. Marine Mural at Douglas Corner Cafe. These were some from my last 2 trips out.

The Thistle Stop Cafe has a new mural. They painted over the pretty flowers. 😞 I missed the original at Ledgends Corner of the city 🌃 scape. I have seen the country music one that is there now. I wonder if the original is under the one there now. If I remember correctly the new one is painted on boards and screwed into the wall. I think? I really wanted a picture in front on the original.

I took my cousin’s engagement photos in front of that mural!

https://www.camelsandchocolate.com/nashville-tennessee-engagement-photos/

And I’m with you: I don’t like the new one, or the new Thistle Stop Cafe one for that matter (we drove by it and I chose not to take a photo as it looks like something a kid could have painted).

Thank you for all the mentions of additional murals in your previous comment! I have an ongoing list to shoot all of those in the next year, it just takes soooo much time =)

There are some crazy interesting murals at surprising turns & twists downtown. Sadly I don’t venture out of the office often, and when I do it’s usually to the same places, but there are still a surprising number I see within my limited scope. If you ever find yourself downtown and want to explore with me, let me know and I can show you my favorites. Maybe lunch or a drink too! 🙂

I will definitely let you know! Honestly, I don’t get around downtown much anymore either what with all the construction and the increased lack of parking. For many of these, we were parking illegally as we ran and got our shot (shhhh, don’t tell) 😉

If anyone is interested….I put together a map of the murals in order of location for my daughter’s senior trip….of 42 different murals around Nashville. Almost all of them are on your website….but if your readers would like a map to go with it, I’d be more than happy to email them one.

Joyelle, I would love the map of the murals. And thanks to Kristin for the great info.

Hi Janice! There’s a map in this photo, as well, below the second paragraph 🙂 There are some newer ones I need to add, but it will still direct you to the right neighborhoods.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1ffKBMfu1BfCt0tgtOTuBMNZUuy-p45lc&ll=36.15951811596569%2C-86.79611645&z=13

I would love a map. We are heading there tomorrow!

Hey Keli! There’s a map in this post with all of these murals annotated =)

We are here on vacation and my daughter and her bff want their senior pictures in front of the murals. This list is making our route planning so much easier. Thanks!

I’m so glad! There are quite a few new ones in 12South, Downtown and East Nashville that I haven’t even gotten to yet!

I’m new to the city. Have been planning to visit them all and capture myself. Loved the way you captured all of them. Murals are so much fun to explore.

What would you say are the best times out of the day to go visit these murals? 🙂

Sunday morning when all the businesses are closed and cars aren’t blocking the views!

OK, since you love murals so much you have to go to Belfast and take the “black cab” tour through the area right outside of the city. More murals that you can count, all politically sparked and many covering the walls that still divide the city…. 🙂

I’ve been to Belfast several times but never taken this tour! A definite excuse to go back!

Heading to Nashville in a week for a cheer competition, just came across this page cant wait to venture out and see some of these amazing works of art 🙂

Oh, how fun! Did you guys find any cool murals while you were visiting?

You’re doing a great job, Kristin. I’m sure a lot of people as a result of reading your articles have put Nashville on their Must-Visit-Soon-List. I know I have(living half a world away in Australia!)

Awww, that’s really nice to hear, Erica. Thank you!

Stellar guide, everyone always tells me I’d love Nashville because I love New Orleans, and both have a unique soul. But little did I know there was all of this amazing street art! Wow, it’s incredible! I love street art and it’s some of my favorite features of a city, but I had never really thought to visit Nashville for it.Thanks for changing that! Also, love your blog…first time here and wow I love the layout and your content! Happy tracveling!

Ryan, thank you! I’m glad you’re now considering Nashville as a viable art destination as it definitely is. And appreciate the kind words on our blog—we have a great design team (Furtherbound), and it was really important for us to have a nice magazine layout and no ads cluttering the site when we did our last redesign four years ago.

I love Nashville, I was there for the first time a few months ago when we found ourselves unexpectedly driving from florida to Chicago. I also love street art and wish we had more time, as you have found so many wonderful street arts in the city.

Just an excuse for you to come back soon, Rhonda!

The murals looks amazing! 😀 So vibrant and colorful! Great backdrop for pictorial.

Nashville is soo cool. It is in my bucket list.

Hi, The person who painted the blues mural on Jefferson is Thaxton Abshalom Walter. Perhaps you can update the blog to reflect the artist? I found the mural based on your blog & asked around. Great Work!

Hi again! After looking at your picture really closely, Thaxton’s name is on the lower right corner of the mural! That’s wild that I never saw that before. HTH.

Killer! Thank you! Sometimes even when I see a signature on a piece, I can’t make it out (or find that person online). Appreciate you sharing this!

This on my bucket list in July I have to go!!! Any recommendations besides the murals is already a must do!!!anything on fourth of July

The Opry, the Ryman, Cheekwood, and eat allllll the food. I have quite a few Nashville posts, from eating to outdoors, here:

https://camelsandchocolate.com/tag/nashville

We (4) ladies will be in Nashville for the CMA MUSIC FEST. We would love to see the murals!!!! We are staying in a condo on 2nd Ave downtown. Any advice on the order to see them would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Karen

That’s why I created the above map, to make it easier for you to navigate. Just save the link on your phone and you can reference the locations as you go!

I’d recommend using scooters to get around once you’re outside of downtown. They would be good for Midtown/12South/Music Row, but I’d hesitate to use them in the chaos of 2nd/Broadway. All of the downtown murals are walkable anyway!

This is such a great post. I love public art and had no idea Nashville was so colorful! Hoping to visit in August and will definitely have to check some of these out!

Hi Kristin! Wondering if you are busy today? Just found your site murals are all amazing. My daughter is in Nashville right now with 6 friends celebrating hr 21st bday. I bet they’d love to have you tag along . Let me know if you are free??!!🤗

Thank you for featuring my work in Nashville! Love Heals Every Body mural, artist: Michael Cooper at 5122 Charlotte Ave. (side of The Café at Thistle Farms).

Kristin – take a look at my website in the gallery under Exterior Murals and you’ll see a ton of murals that aren’t mentioned on your site. Even some of the Interior murals and Signage would qualify for your blog. Some of mine have been around for almost 30 years!! The Church Street Pocket Park, The Arcade, The Vanderbilt Coaches, The Nashville Zoo Underpass, The Bicentennial Mall, Camel Express, Weiss Liquors, Marathon Petroleum, Lane Motors, etc. etc. Call me if you have any questions.

Seeing this I can’t wait to visit Nashville this weekend.

This is a great catalog of all of the murals in Nashville. I will be going there in the fall and this will help me figure out where I want to go for the largest concentration of them. Thank you for all of your hard work!

I thought the article was excellent. But I’m confused about why the same woman is posing in front of almost every mural. It made the pictures look like a photo shoot for her instead of highlighting the murals. I’m very new to this site so perhaps there’s a reason that I don’t know about?

This is a great list of the Nashville murals. I love how they are grouped by neighborhoods. I am taking my daughters and a few friends to do a photo shoot this weekend and this helps so much.

I will add though that the last mural on your list is no longer there as it was destroyed by the tornado that came through Nashville in March. I hate it too because it was one of my favorites.

Hi Sarah! Yes, it’s sad how many of the Gallatin Road murals were lost to the tornado =( I actually have a big update to this post coming in the next week or so adding another 20 or so mural locations and photos and deleting all the ones destroyed by the tornado (or construction).

But while you’re out and about, check out the new one my nonprofit just did on the side of Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery. It’s about 200 feet in length and overlooks 16th Avenue North.

Happy mural-hunting!

I have not been to Nashville in over 30 years. Thanks for giving me a tour. Wonderful art! I hope my health improves enough for me to go back.

PS I loved the Highway Men (Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson)

I hope you can make it back, too, Ray! And I also love the Highway Men. Some of those were my first intro to country music.

I was hoping to go to Nashville early next year but I doubt that will happen now with Co-vid. That is such a shame because I would have loved to have seen these murals.

Hi Spencer! I’m so sorry your trip was canceled, but the good news is that the street art isn’t going anywhere, so most of these murals will be around whenever you’re able to finally make it to Nashville 🙂

Is there somewhere I can send you a pic of a mural I’m trying to find? Maybe you know it’s location?

Thank you SO much for the mural info! I had no idea all of these murals was a thing! I was looking for things to do with my grandkids today and came across your blog. We had so much fun! We used your map and concentrated in the East Nashville area. We actually started with two different murals in Donelson on Old Lebanon Pike. So much more we want to see. Thank you!

Thank you so much, Lynette! I’m glad you guys found it useful, and happy mural-hunting with your grands!

Thanks for the comprehensive list! We have referred to your post multiple times! I have teenage daughters and we love mural hunting! One of our favorites that is not on your list is Drew Holcomb’s “Go slay all the dragons that stand in your way” on Douglas Ave at the corner of Meridian! Check it out if you haven’t. The colors and design are on point!

I’m so glad you found it useful, Kristen! I do need to photograph Kim Radford’s Slay the Dragons—we were just eating at Folk the other night, and I was thinking how I never added that one to the list. She’s one of our favorite artists who we’ve been able to work with on three pieces this past year in Tullahoma, Sweetwater and Nolensville, so I’m definitely a fan of all of her work! 🙂

I am the Project Manager for the TN Entertainment Commission. Stephen Johnson who recently filmed a Chevrolet Commercial filmed the “I Believe in Nashville” mural and would like to request the rights to use it in the commercial. Please reach out to him at 865.441.6951 or [email protected] . Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. Sincerely, Gisela

Have you stopped by the “You Belong Here” mural off Hillsboro Rd/21st Ave right after i440. I would love to see a better picture of that one.

It’s by my dermatologist’s office, but you’re right—it’s really hard to see. I never notice it until I’m past it, and there’s nowhere really to stop and take a photo on that busy road.

Do you mind sharing your dermatologists office 🙂 that might help a friend of mine going to Nashville soon locate it.

Of course! If it’s the one I’m thinking of, it’s part of a series of black-and-white murals that say “Nashville Looks Good on You” (same style as “You Belong Here”), or maybe I’m getting them mixed up? Either way, that one is located at 2311 21st Avenue South.

Thank you for documenting this amazing art 🙂

Whatever became of the “Nashville Scene” mural on Rosa L Parks Blvd – across from the Werthan lofts?

…Nevermind. I know now. The city is storing it for future use. Yay!!

https://www.wsmv.com/news/davidson_county/mural-comes-down-affordable-housing-goes-up/article_8333c9c4-0cb8-11ea-a4c3-b314ae7287eb.html

Many thanks for the thorough list! This has made me eager to travel to Nashville.

I appreciate the thorough list you provided. I’m eager to travel to Nashville after seeing this

I’m looking for a specific mural, it is similar to the state symbol with the circle and three stars except instead of the stars, they are replaced with “certain leaves” for a state the terms that stuff illegal it’s hypocritical to have a mural. I have only seen pics of it and would love to see if it is actually there. Thanks.

I think the one you’re referring to is by Mobe at LabCanna on Gallatin Road!

Touring the murals in Nashville is a must-do activity on your trip. Nashville is covered in beautiful murals and street art that make for great photo ops and viewing.

In the Gulch, or 12 South neighborhoods, its hard to go a block without seeing a mural. They’re fun to tour for unique photo ops or to simply admire the art.

Some of the challenges with visiting the murals in Nashville are knowing where to find them, how to avoid lines, and how to pose for photos.

This guide will share a Nashville mural map to show you exactly where to find them all. I’ll also share tips for visitng them to avoid crowds and get the best photos. Finally, I’ll share the best tours to make seeing all of them super simple.

Best Murals in Nashville to Visit

1. what lifts you.

street art tour nashville

Address : 302 11th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203

Artist : Kelsey Montague Art

Pose Ideas : Pose with one leg bent behind you and your arms outstretched. If you are traveling in a group, there is a smaller set of wings to the right of the big pair that make for a funny duo picture with the second person sitting or squatting by the secondary pair.

Known often as the Nashville wings mural, the “What Lifts you Mural is one of the most popular murals in Nashville. It’s located in the Gulch near the popular breakfast spot, biscuit love. Arrive before 9 am or plan to wait 20-30 minutes for your photo op.

2. Wish for Peace

Mural that reads wish for peace in large block letters on the left side. On the right side are colorful origami swans

Address : 4816 Charlotte Avenue

Artist : WHAT. Creative Group

Pose Ideas : Stand under the large origami swan and gaze up at the smaller ones.

This mural was intended to be a political statement regarding WWII, paying homage to the Japanese victims of the war. The origami swans are meant to symbolize the Japanese culture and peace.

3. Candy Hearts

street art tour nashville

Address : 601 8th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203

Pose Ideas : Point to the heart that best represent your status or mood. I chose “Cheers Y’all”.

The Candy Hearts mural is in the Gulch outside of Finnley’s Boutique. This mural is great for bachelorette parties with candy hearts that say, “Bach Please” or “Engaged AF”. Since the mural is large, there is plenty of room for group shots.

4. Hillsboro Village Dragon

Address : 1801 21st Avenue South

Artist : Eastside Murals

Pose Ideas : Stand next to the head of the dragon and stick your tongue out like it is!

The Hillsboro Village Dragon mural is one of the most famous murals in Nashville. It’s also one of the oldest, having been originally painted in 1995 and refurbished in 2015.

5. Spread Your Wings

street art tour nashville

Address : 903 Gleaves St, Nashville, TN 37203

Pose Ideas : Stand with your arms level to the chicken wings and either keep your arms to your side or tucked behind your back. You will feel silly, but it turns out cute.

The Spread Your Wings chicken wings mural is outside of the pegleg porker BBQ restaurant. This mural is much goofier than other murals, making it a fun mix with the more insta-famous options on this list.

6. Looking Pretty Music City

street art tour nashville

Address : 2709 12th Avenue South

Artist : Emily Eisenhart

Pose Ideas : Try to strike a pose that mimicks the legs on the mural! Even better if you have three people to copy all three movements.

“Music City” is another name for Nashville, given it’s long and prolific history with music. This mural pays respect and calls attention to the musical side of Nashville.

7. Hear this Nashville

street art tour nashville

Address : 901 Gleaves St, Nashville, TN 37203

Artist : @newman.adam.art

Pose Ideas : Stand with one person singing into the microphone and the other near the ear, cupping this ear like they are listening.

Across the street from the chicken wing mural, there is a beautiful microphone and ear mural at the Stock & Barrell restaurant. This mural is perfect for two people and has beautiful pink and blue colors that will pop in any picture.

8. Its Gonna be Ok

Wide mural with white background and colorful flowers that reads

Address : 3020 Charlotte Avenue

Artist : Sarah Tate

Pose Ideas : Since this mural is along a busy road, have your photographer cross the street for the best angle. Stand in front of the mural with your hands on your hips and a huge smile.

This mural has such a sweet message of “It’s gonna BE O.K.”. The entire thing is very feminine and soft, with flowers and the simple white background. Be careful taking photos here since it’s right next to the road.

9. I Believe in Nashville

Address : 2702 12th Ave South, Nashville, TN 37204

Artist : Adrien Saporiti

Pose Ideas : If alone, put your hands in the air or jump. In a group, cluster in the middle of the mural with your arms around each other.

On my trip to Nashville, I chose to skip the “I Believe” mural since I didn’t make it to the 12 th South neighborhood. However, it is one of the most popular Nashville murals, and worth the visit if you are in the area.

10. Highwaymen

street art tour nashville

Address : 711 6th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203

Pose Ideas : Stand in front of the mural and gaze up at your favorite artist

This large mural features the Highwaymen, as a tribute to some of country’s best artists. It’s a bit off the beaten path, but a true work of art.

11. Dolly Parton

Address : 1006 Forrest Avenue

Artist : Kim Radford

Pose Ideas : Pose with your hands on your cheeks just like Dolly is.

Dolly Parton is the unofficial queen of country music and therefore basically Nashville royalty. This Dolly Parton mural is a very colorful and well executed giant picture of her face.

12. We Are Seeds

street art tour nashville

Address : 1414 Clinton St, Nashville, TN 37203

Artist : @simonandmoose @sarahpainter

Pose Ideas : This is best photographed without any people in the frame

This mural is one of my favorites in Nashville with the phrase, “They Buried Us They Didn’t Know We Were Seeds.” It’s a beautiful work of art with an inspiring message.

13. What Lifts You Balloon

Address : 1034 West Eastland Avenue

Pose Ideas : Get in the basket and act like you are soaring in the sky!

This hot air balloon mural is part of the same collection as the famous Nashville wings mural by Kelsey Montague. I love how this mural combines a 3D basket with the 2D painting on the wall.

14. Draper James

Draper james mural in nasvhille with blue and white strips and three girls posing

Address : 2608 12th Ave. S, Nashville, TN

Pose Ideas : Post like the photo above with your back to the camera and arms raised in the air. Alternatively, walk past the wall horizontally and look over your shoulder at the camera.

Draper James is a super cute boutique owned by Reese Witherspoon in Nashville. This Draper James blue and white stripe mural is very simple but also very cute. Since it’s simple, it’s a great backdrop for a fun outfit or funky pose.

15. Home is Where the Heart Is

Address : 1909 12th Avenue South

Pose Ideas : Jump in the air with your hands up, standing right in the middle of Tennessee

16. One Little Dream at Night

colorful mural with patches of different colors and text that reads one little dream at night and...

Address : 158 4th Avenue North

Pose Ideas : Since this mural spans multiple walls, it would be great for a tiktok or reel with you walking while the camera pans across the entire mural.

This mural wraps around the walls of printer’s alley in Nashville. The quote says “One Little Dream at Nigh And… I Can Dream All Day.” The quote is from a Johnny Cash song, which is very on brand for music city.

17. Drippy Lips

Address : 1814 21st Avenue South

Artist : Donald “Drawbertson” Robertson

Pose Ideas : Blow a kiss to the camera

This mural is one of the best photo backdrops. The bright red lips with “dripping” lipstick are so cute and iconic.

Nashville Mural Tours

There are three ways to see Murals in Nashville: on a guided tour, self-guided tour, or as you run into them. I recommend either of the first two options, otherwise you will be met with long lines and wasting your time.

The below guided tours are my suggestion if you want to learn about the history of the murals or be provided easy transportation and planning.

candy hearts bachelorette mural

Street Art Golf Cart Tour

✅ Private & flexible itinerary

✅ Unique golf cart transportation

✅ Option to include city or brewery tour

Golf Cart Mural Tour – This mural tour visits the most iconic murals in the city, by golf cart.

The company offers a dedicated mural tour or a combination tour that includes breweries, the city, and murals.

Both tours dedicated one hour to visiting Nashville murals. On my trip to Nashville, I took the combination tour , and it was a highlight of my vacation. If you are short on time and want to squeeze a lot of Nashville exploration into a couple hours, this is the best tour for you.

Nashville wings street art

Murals and Mimosas

✅ 3-hour tour

✅ Snack & mimosas included

Murals & Mimosas – This three-hour tour includes photo opportunities at the cities most popular murals across multiple neighborhoods. Afterwards, enjoy mimosas and a snack at a nearby rooftop. This tour is the best option for those seeking more time at the murals.

nashville mural self-guided tour

street art tour nashville

There are many ways to put together a self-guided tour of Nashville’s murals. Below is an example of a route to visit five murals that takes around 2-3 hours. Start at The Five Points Mural, located at 11th Ave N and Woodland St. This mural was designed by local artist Adrienne Outlaw and features a colorful abstract design.

From there, move on to the Music City Mural, located at 6th Ave S & Peabody St. This mural celebrates music culture in Nashville with its depiction of musical instruments and musical notes intertwined with a city skyline silhouette. Next, head over to The Nashville Wall Project, located at 900 Rosa L Parks Blvd. This wall features seven brightly colored murals by various artists that represent the city’s past, present, and future.

Follow this up with a visit to Dreamers Mural on 11th Ave S & Peabody Street. This mural celebrates diversity and inclusion in Music City with its intricate pattern of birds flying around letters spelling “Dreamers”. Finally, end your tour with a visit to the Pink Elephant Mural located on 4th Avenue South & Fatherland Street. This iconic mural serves as both an art piece for tourists to admire and as a reminder of Nashville’s rich history and cultural heritage. These five murals are all within close proximity of each other so you should have plenty of time for taking pictures and fully appreciating their beauty without wasting time on a commute.

Exploring Nashville’s Vibrant Street Art Scene

A Journey through the City’s Captivating Murals

Nashville, the heartbeat of Tennessee, is known for its rich musical history, Southern charm, and vibrant culture. However, beyond the tunes and honky-tonks, the city boasts a hidden treasure trove of artistic expression that captivates the eyes and souls of its visitors: the Nashville Murals. These captivating works of street art, scattered throughout the city, form a kaleidoscope of creativity and serve as an ever-evolving canvas that speaks to the heart of the city’s artistic spirit. In this blog, we’ll delve into the allure of Nashville’s murals and explore why travelers seeking memorable experiences should not miss the chance to uncover these hidden gems.

The Living Art Gallery of Nashville Murals

Nashville’s murals serve as a living art gallery that showcases diverse talents, styles, and messages from local and international artists alike. Each mural has its own unique story to tell, reflecting the city’s history, culture, and ever-changing identity. From bold geometric patterns to mesmerizing portraits and heartwarming messages, every mural is a masterpiece that offers a glimpse into the soul of Nashville.

Preserving the Local Culture

The city’s murals often pay homage to Nashville’s rich heritage, immortalizing legendary musicians, civil rights icons, and pivotal moments in the city’s past.

For instance, the “Musicians Corner” mural celebrates Nashville’s musical legacy by depicting iconic musicians who have graced the city’s stages over the years, reminding travelers of the city’s status as the “Music City.”(In 2020 Brad Paisley replaced Taylor Swift in the Mural)

I Believe in Nashville Mural — After floods inundated the city in 2010, “I believe in Nashville” became the city’s slogan for rebuilding. The slogan became even more significant because it remained standing after a March 2020 tornado brought down most of the rest of the building.

Revive Mural —  “Revive” is the work of Brooklyn-based artist Beau Stanton. This mural  brings attention to the waterways of Middle Tennessee.

The Kind Mural —  The Kind Way is a social movement founded by South Dakota natives Rebekah Rinehart and Sarah Gail Nelson. Fittingly located on the same wall as the “HARMONY” mural, above The Kind Way’s mission is to empower the world to see what’s possible when we choose to live in harmony over ignorance and fear.

A Canvas of Social Commentary

Beyond their celebration of local culture, Nashville’s murals also serve as a powerful medium for social commentary. Artists often use these large-scale canvases to voice their thoughts on pressing social issues, such as equality, justice, and environmental concerns.

The “Artists’ Peace Project” mural is a striking example, showcasing messages of love, unity, and harmony to inspire both locals and visitors alike.

The Joy of Discovery

One of the most rewarding aspects of exploring Nashville’s murals is the thrill of discovery. While some murals are well-known and have become popular tourist attractions, others remain hidden gems tucked away in the city’s corners, waiting to be stumbled upon. Embarking on a mural-hunting adventure encourages travelers to wander through the lesser-explored neighborhoods and interact with the local community, providing an authentic and immersive experience.

We like to save the beloved murals for our Nashville Murals Tour , but here are a few we just can’t help but share!

For the Gram Mural —  Chris Tidwell is known around Nashville for his pop-art style. His murals titled “For The Gram” which depict an Instagram like. It can be found throughout Nashville. The first in the series was painted on the side of Franklin Juice Company in 12 South.

Just a few Gents Mural — The mural  is hidden away down an alleyway in 12 South, and often passed by pedestrians walking the popular 12 South neighborhood. It’s the work of painter and illustrator Jared Freihofer whose specialty is  in mixed media portraits.

12 South Flowers Mural — Little is known about the origin or story of this flower mural, and we think that it’s a pretty cool one!

Mural Sightseeing Tip(s):

  • The earlier the better.
  • Golden hour is perfection
  • Wear bold colors so not to blend into the murals
  • Visit during the cooler months to keep makeup looking pristine

The Intersection of Art and Music

Nashville’s murals not only celebrate the city’s music heritage but also often blend art and music seamlessly. Some murals incorporate musical elements, such as notes, instruments, and song lyrics, adding an extra layer of depth and intrigue to the artwork. For music enthusiasts, this unique amalgamation of art and music creates an unmissable opportunity to connect with the city’s soul on a deeper level.

Each mural provides a striking backdrop for travelers’ photos, ensuring that every memory is infused with vibrant colors and artistic flair. The “I Believe in Nashville” mural has become a symbol of the city’s unity and a must-visit spot for every traveler’s Instagram feed.

"Young Warlords" mural of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates at Capital City Computers

This eye-catching mural features iconic images of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. The mural was commissioned when Capital City Computers, a locally-owned computer shop, moved to East Nashville in 2017. Come here to get your computer fixed and check out some great art!

The massive Cleo "What Lifts You" baloon mural

This is well-known muralist Kelsey Montague’s tallest mural at over 60 feet tall. It’s her second “What Lift’s You” mural in Nashville after the iconic “What Lift’s You” wings in the Gulch, featured later in this article.

Dolly Parton "Black Lives Matter" mural

Just as artist Kim Radford was finishing the mural, Dolly was quoted as saying “I understand people having to make themselves known and felt and seen, and of course Black lives matter. Do we think our little white a---- are the only ones that matter? No!”. This inspired Radford to incorporate the BLM movement into the mural.

"Greetings from Athens" mural

Nashville has long been nicknamed “The Athens of the South”. This mural features many Nashville institutions framed in the Athens letters of the mural. The “A” features the symbols for sports teams the Nashville Sounds, Predators and Tennessee Titans. The “T” features Greko Greek Street Food, a great local restaurant who commissioned the mural. The “H” features the Parthenon at Centennial Park. The “E” features the iconic signs of The Stage and Jacks BBQ on Broadway. The “N” features the Nashville Skyline at sunset. The “S” features the “Musica” sculpture by Nashville artist Alan LeQuire at the Music Row roundabout in Midtown.

Slay Dragons mural close up

The Slay Dragons mural features lyrics from the song “Dragons” by Nashville based band Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors who commissioned the piece.

"Country Music Legends" mural at Legends bar

This piece shows how country artists from every era are welcome to sit at the country music table. Taylor Swift was once a part of this mural as shown, but controversially has been painted over for Brad Paisley. Sorry Swifties.

Concert tickets mural

The oldest ticket on this mural is from April 4, 1965 a Peter, Paul & Mary show, the newest is a Lady A ticket from February 22, 2012.

"As Long As" mural

This mural features artist Neils Shoe Meulman’s unique “Caliligrafiti” style. The words are from the chorus of the song “As Long as the Grass Shall Grow” written by Peter LaFarge and performed by Johnny Cash on his 1964 album Bitter Tears: Ballads of the American Indian. It’s a reference to the broken promises in many of the treaties signed between the United States and Native Americans.

"Arrows" mural alleyway view

This mural represents the artist once known as “ABOVE” evolving and pealing away his previous moniker to be known as his real name.

Blush mural and Batman Building

“Revive” is the work of Brooklyn-based artist Beau Stanton. This mural is meant to bring attention to the waterways of Middle Tennessee and the value they bring to the area.

"Rone" mural and leaves from tree

Australian artist Tyrone Wright aka RONE is famous for his portraits of solitary women. His work can be found in New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Amsterdam, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and more.

Animal rescue mural in downtwon Nashville

Nashville-based artist Ty Christian created this mural which blends different skin colors on a baby's face above the word “HARMONY”.

"Kindness Is..." mural in Germantown

The Kind Way is a social movement founded by South Dakota natives Rebekah Rinehart and Sarah Gail Nelson. Fittingly located on the same wall as the “HARMONY” mural above The Kind Way’s mission is to empower the world to see what’ possible when we choose to live in harmony over ignorance and fear.

"I Love Nashville" sign at Five Daughters Bakery at L&L Market

Chris Tidwell is known around Nashville for his pop-art style. His murals titled “For The Gram” which depict an Instagram Like can be found throughout Nashville. The first in the series was painted on the side of Franklin Juice Company in 12 South.

"Candy Hearts" mural in Nashville

This mural, sponsored by The Bach Party, a bachelorette planning service and Finnley’s Boutique is especially attractive to Bachelorette Parties. If you’re planning on getting a photo-op at this mural we recommend coming at a non-standard time as parked cars at Finnley’s can get in the way of the shot.

"What Lifts You" wings in the Gulch

One of Nashville’s most iconic murals, the “What Lifts You” wings in the Gulch at peak times often has a line of people waiting for the chance to take their picture in flight. At the time this mural was created, it was artist Kelsey Montague’s largest at over 20 feet tall. She has since gone on to create a number of murals many much larger than this all over the world.

Colorful wall mural in the Gulch

Jason Woodside is a New York based artist who created this mural in collaboration with Nashville’s Nathan Brown. Woodside is known for his use of bold colors, patterns and shapes. His murals are featured in major cities around the world including Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Madrid, Tokyo, Sydney and London.

“Just a Few Gents” is hidden away down an alleyway in 12 South, and often passed by pedestrians walking the popular 12 South neighborhood. It’s the work of painter and illustrator Jared Freihofer who specializes in mixed media portraits.

"I Believe in Nashville"

Music City’s best known slogan and mural is the work of Nashville native Adrien Saporiti. Saporiti is an artist, musician and designer of Vietnamese decent who’s work has been seen around the world. The slogan was influenced by a trip he made with his mother to Vietnam where he witnessed Victor Hugo’s words “Amour et Justice” written on the pillar of a temple. Saporiti states “I saw that, and I really, just really loved the phrasing of it. “Love and Justice,” “I Believe in Nashville,” they’re the kinds of things it’s hard to refute. You have to kind of be a jerk.”

"Make Music Not War" sign

Nashville artist and designer Allan Geiger enjoys creating messages of “simplicity with a rock and roll flare” as you can see in his “Make Music Not War” mural.

Flower mural in 12 South

Little is known about the origin or story of this flower mural, and we think that’s pretty cool.

"Looking Pretty Music City" sign in Nashville

This mural is a celebration of creativity in Nashville and is in support of arts and music programs in Nashville Metro Public Schools.

East Nashville: Eats & Street Art Walking Tour

street art tour nashville

Two of the best things about Nashville are the unique pieces of street art and the great things to eat.

This Eats & Street Art Tour covers East Nashville, a hip and quirky neighborhood that is so full of street art that we only included about half.

Our hearts go out to the East Nashville community after last night's tornado. This page has not been updated to reflect what places were damaged. We will update when it is safe and reopened.

Eats & Street Art tours are self-guided walking tours that take you to some of the most popular (and some of the lesser-known) street art and murals, with food stops at local eateries, cafes, and stores.

It is a great way to experience a new neighborhood and delve into the deliciousness that feeds your soul and your belly.

EAST NASHVILLE STREET ART TOUR

GREEN = EATS | PURPLE = STREET ART

Take this tour in whatever order or route you want, but our suggested route is below with information about each stop.

We went in this direction solely to end with coffee. If you make all the food stops, you will get full so start hungry!

We start at the intersection of 7th and Main Streets. The tour ends about 1 mile away, so pick a route that works best for you based on how you're getting around.

FOOD: Bolton's Spicy Chicken - 624 Main Street - Try the fried fish (or if this is your only chance to get some Nashville Hot Chicken, get that. This family recipe was passed down by the owner's uncle and it's less sticky and more breading than some other versions). The hot fish sandwich comes in a combination with fish and spice levels - (whiting, catfish, grouper, and tilapia with five-spice levels).

STREET ART: There is a mural on the four corners here.

Glitchmule (Herb Williams) - 626 Main Ave

Herb William does a lot of his artwork with crayons (he has an account with Crayola) to make crayon sculptures, and a lot of his work uses animals. You can find his miniature multicolored animals all over town.

street art tour nashville

Jerry's Artarama (Marshall Hall & Hannah Holgate) - 713 Main Street

Jerry's is a discount art supply store chain. You'll find a lot of street art is commissioned by local business but one of the artists here, Hannah Holgate, is also a manager at the store!

street art tour nashville

Stay Tuned (DCXV) - 625 Main Street

DCXV is Adrien Saporiti, the artist behind the famous I Believe in Nashville mural featured on our 12 South Eats & Street Art tour (you can also find a smaller version on the side of Basement East in a few stops).

street art tour nashville

Athens of the South (Mobe Oner) - 650 Main Street

Nashville is known as Music City today but in the 19th century, the nickname was "Athens of the South" - based on the number of higher education institutions here and the replica of the Parthenon.

This mural is on the side of a Greek restaurant and the mural was commissioned before they even opened! Each letter has a different Nashville connection - the restaurant itself, the Parthenon, the Nashville skyline, the sports team, and other public art in the city.

street art tour nashville

FOOD: Head to the Turnip Truck - which is actually a grocery store, but its one of the few places you can find Professor Bailey's Pimento Cheese Spread.

Grab some of that (we love the savory version) and some crackers to go. This version of the cheesy spread has less mayonnaise and more chunks. It is named after John E. Bailey, who was superintendent of music education in Nashville from 1873-1917.

STOP THREE:

FOOD: Get a kolache at Yeast Nashville - a Kolache is a Czech transplant that made it's way via Texas. The original Bohemian version is sweet, but these Tex-Czech pastries often have proteins. We suggest the sausage-chedder.

To the next stop, head left out of Yeast Nashville, munching on your kolache, and you'll see a set of stairs at the end of the building leading down to a parking lot, take this to get back to Main Street and turn right.

STREET ART: There are actually a lot of street art or grafitti on this next stretch but we want to point out four.

East Nashville Community (Murals & More)  - 824 Main St

This mural is on the side of Weiss Liquors (which has a cool history itself. Started in the 1890s downtown, this location is from the 1960s and has an original retro sign still. The mural shows employees putting up a banner with locals (and in the photo below, our tour guide) hanging out.

street art tour nashville

Tomato Arts Festival (Murals & More) - 824 Main Street

This second mural on the Weiss Liquors wall is by the same people and pays homage to East Nashville's Tomato Arts Festival.

One of the neighborhoods best and signature festivals celebrates the tomato every fall. The three starts resemble the Tennessee flag.

street art tour nashville

Cowboy Murals (Ratchi) - 9th Street Between Main and Woodland

This cowboy mural as well as the Crying Wolf behind it were part of the #dotheroad project - in 2017, Pabst Blue Ribbon sponsored a traveling artist project.

Ratchi is a NYC based artist with a signature style. The @tag is obscured by grass often but this is pretty obviously Ratchi - the offspring of a rat and chihuahua in the Lower East Side.

street art tour nashville

Crying Wolf  - 823 Woodland St

Part of the same PBR project (hence all the PBR's in the artwork. You'll see a lot going on in this mural and it is the work of four artists - Kit Mizeres (travelling artist), Lauren Asta (California), Ramiro Davaro-Comas (Brooklyn), and Denton Burrows (Manhattan).

street art tour nashville

FOOD: Take a break at Butcher & Bee for some tapas style table service. We recommend... literally everything. But the whipped feta, bacon wrapped dates and/or (who are we kidding - and) avocado crispy rice. They offer seasonal local fare so the menu often changes.

When you leave Butcher & Bee head right to the corner (Molly Green), then turn right on to Mcferrin Avenue.

STREET ART:

Molly Green (Out East Boys) - 918 Main Street

Eastside Murals (Out East Boys) are a pair of Tennessee based artists who specialize in large scale artwork. They have a lot of work around Nashville!

If you've seen the Tomato Mural at Pomodoro East that was their first (kind of...) piece. The two friends actually grew up together using spray paint as graffiti artists. Even today their large scale projects are done with spray paint.

street art tour nashville

FOOD: As you're about halfway up McFerrin Avenue, you'll see what looks like a mural of a chicken riding a motorcycle. This is actually a speakeasy called Attaboy !

Knock on the door for the host. There is no menu, but you'll be asked some questions to get a sense of what you may enjoy.

Attaboy is on an unamed alley and you'll want to walk down this (if the door to Attaboy is behind you, turn right) and then turn left on the first road at the Basement East building.

STREET ART: You'll find a number of interesting pieces here. There is another Eastside Murals work featuring cheetahs, a smaller version of the I Believe in Nashville.

One of our favorites is a multicolor piece signed Rebecca Moreland + Andee that may be hard to decipher but reads "Love Loud Sing Freak Soul" - Rebecca Moreland is a Nashville musician and her video  for "Freak Soul" shows the mural being made.

You're back on Woodland St. Turn left and you'll walk a few blocks. You'll want to cross the street at some point to get to the Soda Parlor.

STOP SEVEN:

FOOD: Indulge in an old school soda fountain float at The Soda Parlor

STREET ART:

East Nashville Sign (Troy Duff) - in the walkway across from Soda Parlor

Troy Duff is a East Nashville based artist whose work often can be viewed like a puzzle. You can see this arrangement of "East Nashville" in a few places.

street art tour nashville

Nashville Balloons (Mobe Oner) - 1003 Russell Street

Mobe Oner (the nom de spray paint of Eric Bass) is based in Nashville. You can see similar realistic helium balloon letter street art on our London Graffiti and Street Art tour by artist Fanakapan, who pioneered this style.

These golden balloons were commissioned by the pizza company BoomBozz where it is located.

street art tour nashville

Born in Tennessee (Eastside Murals)- 970 Woodland Street

Did you know that Mountain Dew was founded in Tennessee? Another Eastside Mural. And yes, "It'll tickle your innards" was a real Mountain Dew slogan in the 1960s.

street art tour nashville

The Balloons and Born in Tennssee are both on S 10th St, so head back to Woodland and turn right.

STOP EIGHT:

Geometrics (Nathan Brown) - 1012 Woodland Street

This mural was a part of a Google Fiber project that brought artists to five cities across America to #MakeTheInternet brighter and more colorful!

This artwork was done by Nashville artist (who is currently based in Budapest) Nathan Brown, known for his geometric shapes.

street art tour nashville

FOOD: Pop into Five Points Pizza for a slice (New York style). They have a dine in section and a counter service if you want to get a quick slice to go.

Keep going down Woodland to the next intersection - Five Points.

Dancing Bears Five Points Mural (Leah Tumerman) - 103 S 11th St

The Five Bears at Five Points in East Nashville is another commissioned piece. When it was being put up, not everyone in the neighborhood was thrilled by the concept.

Look at the second bear from the right and you'll see white paint dripping around his head - that was actually from an episode of vandalism. Before the mural was completed someone splashed white paint on it, but the artist Leah Tumerman left it as part of the finished piece.

street art tour nashville

Lose Yourself (Bonnaroo) - 107 N 11th St

This one may not last long so let us know if it's gone. Bonnaroo is a festival in Nashville and there is a whole quest like, somewhat Alice in Wonderland feel to it's lead up.

People have been getting cryptic messages related to Bonnaroo for some time - a few people have even shown up at this mural in the middle of the night with blacklight flashlights looking for hidden messages (none were found).

street art tour nashville

FOOD: This one might need planning and its a sit-down restaurant but worth it. The Treehouse Restaurant is a farm to table dinner in an old family home.

Seriously, the home has been in the owner's family since the 1920s and the treehouse in the backyard was built by his grandfather. The farm is about 50 miles outside the city so their menu is very seasonal.

Head up 11th to where it dead-ends with Gallatin. There is a wild mural on the pavement the intersection . Turn right on Gallatin.

street art tour nashville

FOOD: At Donut Distillery at 311 Gallatin Ave try their bourbon soaked mini donuts.

Donut Distillery Mural (Kristy Oakley) - 311 Gallatin Ave

This is another piece of art commissioned by a business that was completed before the business even opened. Street art and murals are a big part of local Nashville. The block letters each relate to local businesses and scenes in East Nashville (see the Treehouse Restaurant in the second A!)

street art tour nashville

Cross Gallatin at the crosswalk here and turn right.

Terra-Drift (Skye Walker) - 500 Gallatin Ave

Skye Walker grew up in this world, his father is a muralist, too. Terra-Drift is about Mother Earth and the interconnectedness.

This was part of his Sea2Sea Mural tour - where he lived out of a van and went on a mural painting mission.

street art tour nashville

Octopus (Chris Zidek) - 604 Gallatin Ave

The restaurant that inspired this piece, Little Octopus, closed in early 2019. There was also a gold octopus inside but the same artist.

Tagging his work with Zidekahedron, you'll find more of his work on our Gulch tour , as well.

street art tour nashville

What Lifts You Hot Air Balloon (Kelsey Montague) - 1034 W Eastland Ave

Kelsey Montague is behind what is Nashville's most famous (and instagrammable) piece of art - the Nashville Wings - in the Gulch.

You'll almost have to wait in line at the wings, but this hidden piece in East Nashville was completely quiet when we went. There is even a real hot air balloon basket!

street art tour nashville

FOOD: End the journey with a hot or iced, depending on the weather, coffee from Nashville chain, Barista Parlor.

WHERE TO FIND NASHVILLE’S MOST INSTAGRAMMABLE MURALS

Nashville is well known for its street art, so much so that many visitors to the city will take a tour or plan their trip around some of the famous murals. Every month new murals and street art pop up over the city, but there are some staples that are a must see when you visit Nashville.

Having lived in Nashville for over a year, I have slowly been discovering the best street art around the city and in this guide I share several of my favorite murals organized by neighborhood with the location of each so you can plan your itinerary to see them all.

Guided Tours

Nashville is a relatively small city with not too much traffic, and lots of free parking so it is easy to get around and see a lot of different neighborhoods in one day.

This makes planning your street art mural tour yourself pretty easy. But if you prefer to take a tour, here are three different guided tours in Nashville that will take you to the best and most famous murals in the city.

  • Murals and Mimosas Guided Tour I played tourist in my own city and went on this specific tour that I booked through GetYourGuide. It was a half day small group tour and was a great way to discover some of the lesser known or new murals. At the end of the tour, you get to stop at a donut cafe in East Nashville to enjoy a donut and mimosa tasting making it the perfect tour for a girls trip.
  • Street Art and Instagram Golf Cart Tour What better way to explore the city than by golf cart?
  • Sights, Street Art & Brewery Tour by Golf Cart This tour encompasses some of Nashville best sights, murals and a stop at a local brewery.

Let’s get into it, here are some of Nashville’s best murals.

Draper James Window

Not quite a mural, but a popular spot in Nashville that most visitors want to see, this window is on the side of Reese Witherspoon’s Draper James clothing store and has a convenient white bench to pose on!

Location: 2608 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204

Draper James Blue and White Wall

Next to the window and on the side of the Draper James store is a simple blue and white wall that makes a great backdrop for your Insta pics.

Most people take their photos on the bench or at the I Believe In Nashville mural opposite so you won’t have to wait in line and easily grab a quick photo here before moving onto the next murals.

I Believe In Nashville

There are four I Believe In Nashville murals around the city, and an easy one to find is the one in 12 South. It is on the wall directly adjacent to the Draper James window and white and blue wall so you can hit these three spots at the same time.

Location: 2702 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204

Looking Pretty Music City

Another pretty mural in the 12 South area is the Looing Pretty Music City mural, which is located on the side of the Madewell store on Dallas Ave.

12 South is a great area to explore for a hour or two to browse the shops, and stop for coffee or lunch so you are quite likely to pass murals like this one as you explore.

Nashville Looks Good On You

Located behind the Frothy Monkey cafe you will find the Nashville Looks Good On You Mural. There are a lot of other Nashville Looks Good On You locations around the city including East Nashville, Hillsboro village and Marathon Village.

You can find all the locations on the Nash.TN site.

If you want to see more murals, behind this one there are some murals on the back wall and also while you are exploring 12 South you can also visit the flowers mural.

Location: 2511 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204

Kindness Is and Harmony

Germantown is a popular residential area with lots of small shops, restaurants and cafes.

The Kindness Is and Harmony murals are by The Kind Way are side by side in Germantown and easy to find on 4th Avenue North. If you plan to have brunch in while you explore Germantown I recommend Henrietta Red which is right by these two murals.

Location: 1119 4th Ave N, Nashville, TN 37208

XO Mural

No visit to Nashville is complete without heading to downtown and Broadway which makes seeing this mural easy.

The XO mural is a giant roses mural is located at Fifth & Broadway and you will see it as you exit the food hall, make sure to stop here for a quick photo before hitting the honkytonks.

Location: 5036 Broadway Place, Nashville, TN 37203

Hillsboro/ Belmont

Drawbertson drippy lips mural.

This popular mural by Donald Drawbertson is located in the Hillsboro Village and is a popular spot on any bachelorette tour of Nashville .

When visiting the mural, I recommend stopping for lunch at The Greenery Co. or Fido, you can read my list of favorite brunch spots in Nashville here .

In this area you will also find a couple of Hillsboro Village murals and the Molly Green mural by Tarabella Aversa .

Location: 1814 21st Ave S, Nashville, TN 37212

East Nashville

Dolly parton.

The Dolly Parton mural by Kim Radford is a popular mural over in East Nashville. You can swing by this one first and then go onto the hot air balloon and bear outing murals which are also in East.

What Lifts You – Hot Air Balloon

The What Lifts You Hot Air Balloon mural by Kelsey Montague Art is located in East Nashville and is the largest mural by Kelsey Montague in the city – make sure to check out the artist names when you visit different murals as you will find many are by this artist and have recurring themes featured in them.

The hot air balloon even features a basket so you can hop in for your photos like we did.

Location: 1034 West Eastland Avenue, Nashville, TN 37206

Bear Outing

The Bear Outing mural by Leah Tumerman is on South 11th Street in Five Points.

The mural is quite large and features four bears, but being located next to a parking lot it can be hard to get pictures of this one.

Location: 103 South 11th Street, Nashville, TN 37206

What Lifts You Wings

One of the most popular murals in Nashville are the wings in The Gulch. And with popularity comes queues, expect to have to queue for a while to get your photo taken in front of the wings especially if you are visiting over a weekend.

Location: 302 11th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203

I personally didn’t fancy waiting for a picture and instead dropped into Kittenish to get some photos of the Nashville Stole My Heart mural. In the store you will also find the You’re Like Really Pretty wall art where you can get some photos with your girlfriends.

Candy Hearts

One of my favorite murals in Nashville is the Candy Hearts by Bryson Beach, this is one of the best murals to head to for a group picture of your bachelorette party or girls group.

Also located in The Gulch this mural can get busy, but if you are lucky there may be no one around when you stop there.

Location: 601 8th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203

Jason Woodside Mural

Opposite the wings mural and behind the main carpark on 11th Avenue South is a huge Jason Woodside mural. This mural spans an enormous building, and you cannot miss it when you are strolling around The Gulch.

Address: 299 11th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203

What Lifts You – The Road To Nashville

After visiting The Wings and the Jason Woodside mural head towards the W hotel where you will find a few newer murals.

The What Lifts You – The Road To Nashwille is another mural by Kelsey Montague. This mural is relatively new and can be found at the back of the W Nashville hotel. The mural depicts a tunnel with a road into music city, with highlights of all the things that Nashville is famous for, country music, The Opry and of course, cowboy boots!

Location: Head to the W and walk behind the back entrance / parking garage entrance to find this mural.

Jimmy Hendrix

Another new mural is this huge Jimmy Hendrix mural which is on the side of the W Nashville hotel which opened in 2021.

To find it you can go to the front of the hotel, walk past The Dutch restaurant and then turn right onto 12th Avenue South.

Location: 300 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203

Nashville

Directly opposite the Jimmy Hendrix mural is another fun, colorful mural emblazoned with the words Nashville. It’s worth crossing the street to snap a picture or two of this piece of street art.

Location: Laurel Street
