When you’re in the business of selling tours, the most important thing to do is get your service seen by the right people. But where and how do you find your audience?

Thankfully, the web is already filled with online tour booking sites where tour operators (or  tourpreneurs ) can list and sell their tours. There’s a long list of these places.

You’ll find area-specific sites, as well as tour websites for specific niches. So where do you start when it comes to Online Tour Booking Sites?

Running your own tour business is hard, there are a million and one things to do, so it’s important to focus on what works. We’re a big fan of the 80/20 rule, so we’ve handpicked this list offering 10 of the best Online Tour Booking Sites These sites target audiences from around the world and offer the best opportunities to get your tours seen and booked by thousands of people each month.

These sites target audiences from around the world and offer the best opportunities to get your tours seen and booked by thousands of people each month.

These OTAs are not listed in ranking order. You decide which is the best online tour booking site (OTA) for you.

GetYourGuide

The site lists all kinds of tours, from all over the world, from city passes to guided walking tours.

You do need a legally operating business as well as an insurance policy. It’s free to sign up and list your tours, and commission is only paid on successful bookings. The website has helpful resources for tourpreneurs to upload, edit, and manage their listed tours.

Viator and Tripadvisor Experiences

The great thing about signing up with Viator is that they’re connected to Tripadvisor Experiences as well. So you’re getting two listings in one.

On these platforms, everyone is welcome. So even smaller tourpreneurs stand the chance to benefit from the 350 million visitors each month. They also offer some pretty  handy features . On Viator, you also get full control of your tours. Images, descriptions, and your price (minus the commission) is added by you.

Another big site to list your tours on is Expedia. They see over 140 million visitors each month and have a considerable portfolio which includes Travelocity and Orbitz.

Expedia has what they call Destination Managers, who will contact you and approve your listing. They’re also available to help you with the process, great if you’re not familiar with it. For every tour booked on their platform, Expedia takes a percentage in commission.

Airbnb Experiences

Airbnb has already allowed many people to open their homes, meet travelers, and make some money along the way. Now, passionate tourpreneurs can list on Airbnb Experiences.

Almost anyone can start here, so if you’re an aspiring tourpreneur this may be your chance. You do, however, need to fit in with the  Airbnb standards . You can add your tours for free, but there is a 20% service fee on each experience booked.

This one is a little more tricky. While TourRadar offers fantastic opportunities for many tourpreneurs, they’re not  always  ready to accept new listings. They do have a waiting list, though, which is worth signing up to.

Once you’re accepted, your tours will benefit from the 3 million monthly website visits and 2 million email subscribers. They also have great customer service, and their app makes things smoother as well.

If you’re a new tourpreneur, just starting out, this may be the exact platform for you. WithLocals matches local tour guides with tourists visiting their cities. Their list of tour operators includes freelancers and established local agencies.

Their tours are big in Asia and Europe, but they’ve started branching out to the rest of the world as well. You won’t pay the site for listing your tour, a charge is made to the users who book instead.

Klook started – and has become quite popular – in Asia. But now, they’re expanding globally. While there are still a few destinations not yet reached, it’s just a matter of time.

They target an audience of visitors to both Asia and parts of Europe, with quite a chunk of users being in the USA. They also have a convenient mobile app which makes things so much easier for both partners and customers.

When you sign up for free to their partner program, you’ll be contacted by one of the team to discuss a commission structure. It’s still a very personal experience.

Thrillophilia

Award-winning and far-reaching, Thrillophilia provides a space for your tours to be seen by millions of travelers. They’re well-known and loved by both users and partners.

There are many categories for tours, including a range of activities, day tours, and even rentals. So there’s bound to be a spot for your tours. A definite bonus of listing with them is their convenient mobile app, allowing tours to be booked and managed on the go.

Sign up here:  https://www.thrillophilia.com/suppliers/

Adrenaline Hunter

For tours that offer excitement and action, Adrenaline Hunter is the best place to list them. They list everything from shark diving to rock climbing, in over 100 countries.

Get your tours seen by more than 400,000 visitors each month and benefit from a global audience. You’ll have full control over your guests and their bookings, including the ability to approve and decline bookings.

Sign up here:  https://providers.adrenaline-hunter.com/en-GB/

Time To Start Your Tour Advertising & Selling

This list is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many channels of distribution in the tourism industry, you just have to know which ones to use. Sites like Getyourguide, Viator, Tourradar are great starting points.

The fantastic thing about listing your tours online is that you don’t have to pick just one. None of the above-mentioned tour sites holds you to any contract which prohibits you from listing your tours anywhere else.

So take a few hours and list your tours on as many as you can. You’ll get more exposure and have a much higher chance of securing bookings.

Here's what it's like to to book an adventure abroad through Viator, Trip Advisor's tour and excursion booking platform

When you buy through our links, Business Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more

  • While in Croatia with my family this year, I used Trip Advisor 's activity-booking platform Viator to book boat charters abroad. All operators are pre-vetted by Trip Advisor to guarantee credibility and safety. Excursions range from $15 for a walking tour to thousands for luxury experiences.
  • Booking independently through Viator saved me significant costs compared to using a travel agency, and helped me plan my vacation in advance, with clear pricing and reviews from past guests.
  • I had a great experience with Viator and would use it again — but with a few changes. Next time, I'll make sure to ask more questions first, so I don't face any surprises. Here's what you should know to do the same.

Insider Today

I'm a lifestyle journalist with a focus on travel and trot the globe frequently with my husband and five-year-old twins. So I think of myself as pretty savvy when it comes to calling upon Internet resources (not to mention intuition earned through experience) to make bookings, even in places I've never before been.

This summer, I went on a two-week vacation with my family in Europe, hitting Greece and Croatia, plus bordering countries along the Dalmatian Coast. We spent a fair amount of time off the beaten path and there were a lot of moving parts. But I felt confident, and competent, that I could independently plan our trip, without the help of a travel agency. I know my way around search engines for flights, hotels, and deals.

But there was a blind spot. How would I book tours and excursions such as chartering a speedboat for our family to Croatia's famous islands?

I was relieved when I stumbled upon the activity-booking search engine Viator , which is owned by Trip Advisor. After reviewing various offerings and reading reviews, I booked two separate boat charters through the company. Both boats were clean, comfortable, beautiful, more or less as advertised, and operated by companies I would not have known how to access without Viator.

I'd recommend the platform, especially to anyone staying at an Airbnb without a concierge like I did, or looking for cheaper options than what a hotel or travel agency might suggest. But I'd offer a caveat from my own experience: savvy travelers must make sure to cover their bases to avoid potential pitfalls such as the one we experienced.

What is Viator?

Viator is Trip Advisor's platform for booking all kinds of activities during travel. Consider you might find 4x4 and camel tours in Dubai, a skip-the-line tour of the Colosseum in Rome, or a tour of the Grand Canyon by helicopter from Las Vegas.

Really, you'll find just about anything. The search engine includes options for a truly whopping 200,000 bookable activities in places all around the world making it unlikely that you won't find what you need. All operators listed are pre-vetted for credibility and safety backed by Trip Advisor .

Importantly, the site also aggregates millions of reviews, like what you'll find on Viator's sister site, Trip Advisor, so you have a pretty good sense of what you're getting.

How is Viator priced?

Naturally, price points on Viator range dramatically based on the location and the excursions' complexity. A basic walking tour might cost under $20 while a day-long excursion or charter could cost hundreds more. The more expensive of the two trips I booked came in under $1,000, and the rates on the site can soar depending on what you're booking.

The site is optimized for mobile booking, offers around-the-clock customer service in multiple languages, a lowest-price guarantee, and a 24-hour cancellation policy, which makes the financial risk in booking feel low.

In fact, I made use of that cancellation policy a few times to cancel and rebook similar activities when I changed my mind on the specifics, and also to flatly cancel a sightseeing tour I'd booked for our first day in Greece when I realized we'd all be too jet-lagged to bother.

I made both Viator bookings using my Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card  — both in U.S. dollars — and faced no trouble making these changes.

What did I book through Viator?

I'd never been to Croatia, but knew I wanted to see its beautiful islands. We were staying in an Airbnb apartment (a rare choice for me) instead of a full-service hotel with concierge, so I was on my own for finding out how to do this.

Poking around on the Internet for tours, I discovered Viator , which was previously unknown to me. I appreciated that like its parent company Trip Advisor, Viator heavily incorporates a review system, and the Trip Advisor backing gave me confidence. I booked two tours, each about three weeks ahead of our arrival.

For our stay in Dubrovnik, I booked a half-day private speedboat tour to the Elafiti islands , which earned an impressive five stars overall, with over 100 reviews on Viator. The trip for four people for four hours came in just under $400 after I used a 10 percent discount code.

Then, for the portion of our trip in the northern area of the country, Split, I booked an all-day private sightseeing tour with five proposed stops , including the famous Blue Cave and Hvar island. This trip also had an overall five-star rating on Viator, but with far fewer reviews, just 27 as of the time of this writing. The eight-hour trip for four people on the private speedboat charter cost $873 after the discount code.

These prices might seem steep, but consider that it's priced for four people, as well as the alternative. When I briefly felt overwhelmed with planning, I reached out to a Croatia-based travel agency. The land-only quote for a week in the county for our party of four was 12,000 euros. Booking on my own — including these two-day trips through Viator — cut our expenses to less than half.

My booking experience with Viator

After so much planning, our trip was at last underway. We spent a morning at a Dubrovnik beach club before our scheduled boat tour for the afternoon. That same day, the highly responsive tour company reached out through WhatsApp and email to coordinate transportation for us to the marina, where we'd be meeting our skipper and the boat.

They called a rideshare at their expense to meet us at the beach club and we arrived at the marina to find an impeccably clean boat and friendly skipper.

As promised, the boat was just for our family with amenities like shade cover and a USB port to charge up phones and stay ready for photo taking.

We set out for the afternoon on the Adriatic and were able to customize our itinerary, checking out bays, beaches, and caves at our own pace. The skipper snapped family photos and offered snorkel masks and drinks.

At the end of the afternoon, our skipper called us an Uber to take us back to the hotel. Overall it was a successful, fun day. And at under $400 for four people, felt like a great value for all we were able to do.

Unfortunately, it didn't foreshadow the more challenging experience we had on our next excursion, which was the full-day boat charter from Split.

For that trip, I had more difficulty communicating in advance with the operator, who was less responsive. I didn't get all my questions answered before booking, and miscalculated by making some critical assumptions that turned out to be false.

We arrived at the marina to find a boat that exceeded our expectations. It was a rather luxurious looking speedboat with room for 12 and was larger and fancier than our previous boat in Dubrovnik.

It was also more powerful, at 250 horsepower. While some people might appreciate that, the speed of the vessel scared our young children right away.

Our skipper was a devoted and experienced older brother, so he was well equipped with strategies to help calm our kids and took pains to make them comfortable. He even let my son "drive" the boat and honk the horn, which was a huge hit.

But my daughter was still uncomfortable as the boat sped through the open ocean. Off the bat, I wondered if this was something any ambitious American traveler would attempt with such young children had they known how rough it would be.

The skipper warned us that the Blue Cave would be backed up and crowded, and the timing might correspond to a bumpy afternoon sail. So we opted against it and chose a custom plan to mitigate the intensity. I appreciated that we were able to change the day's itinerary to better suit our needs.

Our skipper took us to a gorgeous, remote beach on the island of Vis, which was a true highlight with crystal clear water and a sense of true isolation. We swam from the boat to the beach, snorkeled, and took lots of pictures.

Afterward, we sailed to glamorous Hvar island, where we passed an hour or so with lunch in Hvar Town.

But it was after that, on the way back to the harbor in Split, when our challenges started in earnest.

It was squarely afternoon by then, and the winds had picked up; the open ocean was very choppy. That is to say, our boat caught full air and slammed back down — over and over again. There was nothing the skipper could do as this was the nature of the boat and typical conditions.

Although my kids (mercifully) don't suffer motion sickness, they were terrified. Anyone with young children and those who do suffer from motion sickness should inquire about conditions before booking any similar boat ride as I wished I had.

My son could be placated by heading back to his post as the boat's "driver," but my daughter was miserable for the full 75 minutes it took to get back to the marina and the waves soaked our family. Making matters more concerning, there was only one kid-sized life jacket on board.

I was regretful that I'd gotten us in this position. I hadn't adequately confirmed that this was the right trip for our family.

And although I generally feel like a diligent and capable planner, I'd continued with the booking despite not waiting for the answers I needed: Would there be child-sized snorkel masks? Would there be two child-sized life jackets? Was the water likely to be rough? Will we get wet or seasick?

The bottom line on Viator

Overall, I wouldn't trade either of the stunning boat excursions I booked through Viator . They made for essential sightseeing experiences for any visitor to Croatia.

The operators on both experiences were professional, and the services were provided as advertised. I also found the prices to be reasonable, much more so than if I'd booked through a travel agency.

I'll book through Viator again, but next time, I'll make sure I'm asking more questions and getting the specific answers I need first.

If a particular operator is vague or reluctant to respond to the specifics of an important matter, like child-sized life vests, or typical water conditions, I will move on to another operator.

As a now-seasoned Viator user, I'd say: book with confidence. Just make sure you ask a lot of questions specific to your needs and make sure you get them all answered explicitly before you show up on the day of your booking.

With the sheer number of bookings available on Viator, you should have plenty of options to keep moving onto another suitable tour operator until you find one that gives you all the answers — and confidence — you need.

Book a Viator excursion, large or small, anywhere on earth .

How to Market a Tour Company for Free: 7 Big Platforms You Should be on

Trifon Tsvetkov

Table of Content

Internet marketing for tour operators, the new tripadvisor, collect reviews on yelp, facebook – the swiss army knife of tour marketing, research your market with quora, use instagram to store your photos and short videos, increase your reach with youtube, share inspiration on pinterest.

There are many ways to promote a tour company.

Some of them are cheap and easy to implement, while others can be costly.

Luckily, there are also many options to promote a tour company for free.

In this post, we’re going to look at the top digital platforms to drive traffic, engagement, and sales for your tour company – without spending a dime.

There will be no big surprises on this list. The goal here is to check if you’re making the most of your online presence and using each platform to its maximum potential.

Ready? Let’s go.

New call-to-action

Before we dive in, let’s briefly recap the benefits of using internet marketing for tour operators.

The biggest factor here is consumer behavior. We know internet usage is consistently increasing while young people tend to book travel almost exclusively online. So it makes sense to optimize your sales and marketing for the way people research and buy nowadays.

Aside from this factor, there are other benefits of internet marketing for tour operators that are not as obvious:

  • It’s easier to calculate ROI: web analytics let you track where your customers are coming from and which channels work best.
  • You can reach more people at a lower cost: when compared to traditional advertising, online ads are as much as 6 times cheaper so you can get in front of potential customers for less.
  • Efficient communication channels: with tools like Facebook and WhatsApp you can provide world-class service and connect with customers 24/7.
  • It’s easier to convey your messages and offers: your website , images , and video content all make it easier to convey that compelling offer you want to make and excite people about your tours.

With that in mind, what are the specific online channels you should use to reach your customers on a reasonable budget and without going nuts?

You’re probably using TripAdvisor already but it’s worth mentioning now that they updated their website . The user experience has changed which means you might need to adapt.

In summary, here are some of the key updates:

  • Travel feed – TripAdvisor users can now see a personalized feed with travel-related content from a variety of sources.
  • Follow the experts – In addition to the user-generated reviews, certain travel experts and brands have been invited to share their tips with TripAdvisor users. People can now follow these experts for inspiration about their next trip.
  • Follow your friends – As with most social networks, you can now follow your friends and get updates on their activity.

The new TripAdvisor feed.

Of course, you still need a consistent inflow of positive reviews to rank high on TripAdvisor .

While Yelp is not as popular in the travel industry, it could still bring a lot of value for tour companies.

The site has a big authority and millions of people visit Yelp each month to get local business recommendations.

And it’s not all about restaurants too.

Virtually any type of business can create a free Yelp profile and get in front of the site’s users. Not only that, but you’ll also be more visible in search engine results because of it.

But undoubtedly the biggest use case for Yelp is collecting reviews . If we run a quick search for tours in Paris, you’ll see a good deal of results with dozens or even hundreds of reviews.

yelp tours paris

That’s a good opportunity to collect feedback from customers and reach an audience that you otherwise wouldn’t have access to.

Well, Facebook is still one of the biggest names around and we can’t ignore it here.

You can do plenty of things with Facebook. In fact, its biggest strength is probably how universal it is.

From reviews to promotions and even sales, you can use Facebook to your advantage in many ways.

But it’s not just the features.

Facebook has a universal appeal and its user base is practically everyone. This is why your customers are likely on the platform – and why you’re there too (well, at least I hope you are).

While advertising on Facebook is a big deal right now, one of the best ways to utilize the platform is by providing customer service.

Messaging, reviews, and comments are all convenient communication tools – for you and your customers. If you keep your customers happy on the platform, it can become one of your biggest sources of free marketing and referrals, second only to TripAdvisor.

And of course, let’s not forget the direct commercial benefits of Facebook. More than 800 million people use the platform to buy and sell products … every month .

Regiondo customers can integrate a complete ticket shop with Facebook so people can book tours directly on your page.

Quora is a question-and-answer site that has been around for several years but has generally focused on tech matters.

Over time, this changed. It’s now possible to position your company and brand as an expert in other areas.

With its capabilities that allow you to add images/photos, links, and rich-format text, it has become a good platform for travel and booking companies to market services to potential customers.

But the real advantage here is market research .

Millions of people visit Quora each month with questions they can’t find an easy answer to.

Quora traffic similarweb

In fact, it’s many millions.

So while you can answer questions in your space and build more awareness for your tour, it’s a good idea to look at what people want to know about your city and use it to generate content ideas.

This approach can fuel your entire strategy across social media and your website – there is no shortage of questions on Quora. Here are just a few examples:

quora questions

A quick search about tour companies already gives us some interesting questions to consider.

But even if you don’t use Quora for its advantages in market research, the site’s 670 million+ monthly visitors are a good indicator of its free marketing potential.

Instagram is a visual way to connect with your audience.

It’s one of the fastest-growing social networks and it’s dominated by millennials. If you target young people, Instagram is a great place to find them.

As images and videos are at the core of this platform, you can use it as a storage solution for all tour-related footage.

The content you put out is then easy to find and share across other places online.

Keep in mind that videos can be up to 30 seconds long. For longer footage, you’ll need something else…

As the second biggest social media platform after Facebook, people use YouTube for more than music and funny videos. It’s now a big influence on travel decisions as people use it to explore destinations.

In fact, travelers make up more than 100 million of YouTube’s unique visitors . In addition, “three in five travelers who watch online video use it to narrow down their brand, destination, or activity choices.”

Even though travel vlogs are the most viewed and most engaging type of travel videos, only 14% of vlogs on YouTube are created by brands.

This is an area with huge potential if you’re keen on using video to raise awareness for your tour and drive people to your website .

Similar to Instagram, Pinterest is also focused on the visual aspect of social networking.

And it’s for much more than recipes, crafts, and wish lists.

Today, Pinterest is a powerful marketing tool , especially for travel and tourism companies where the visual appeal of the destination is paramount.

Think of it as the new version of print brochures. Only you can “pin” it all over the world.

This is why tour companies like Rabbie’s can reach thousands of monthly viewers on Pinterest simply by uploading visual and inspiring content there.

rabbies pinterest

With over 700 million website visits per month, there is good reason to consider focusing on that platform.

Having a solid presence online is a must for tour companies these days.

While each platform has its strengths, you need to focus on the ones your customers use.

If you’re targeting a broad audience, then Facebook could be the way to go.

Or if your customers are from a young demographic, consider Instagram as your focus.

And if you’d like to emphasize the visual elements of your tour, why not try Pinterest as your next big marketing channel?

Whichever platform you choose, make sure your decision is based on a sound understanding of your customers and try to avoid spreading your attention too thin.

95 Places To List Your Tours

As a tour operator, it is vital that you leverage the internet as much as possible to increase your online visibility and, ultimately, your tour sales. In this blog, we’ve spoken a lot about using the Octopus Method (opens in a new tab) to improve your internet presence, but we wanted to up the ante by scouring the internet for places to list your tours. The result? A huge list we hope will prove useful to tour companies both big and small.

And there’s better news: most of the sites on this resource allow you to list your tours for free. Some sites allow you to advertise your brand, directing travelers to your website to book, and others sell your tours for you. Some are niche and target specific audiences, while others are all-encompassing OTAs that reach millions of people (opens in a new tab) across the globe. This resource is always growing, as we find more and more websites that allow you to list your tour website.

Due to the sheer size of this list, you might be wondering which of these sites you should list your tours on. Our advice? List them on as many platforms (opens in a new tab) as possible — as long as they are relevant to your tours. And please feel free to get in touch (opens in a new tab) if you have any questions or are interested in our custom or template tour websites (opens in a new tab) .

These sites are massive OTAs that have been around for a while. They reach millions of unique global visitors a month and usually top the rankings when it comes to travel-related bookings. As such, they are the go-to for a lot of travelers who are looking to book, as these businesses are thought to be reliable and feature excellent customer service. You definitely want to list your tours on these sites!

1.  Expedia

Why we love them: Expedia (opens in a new tab) is the king of the hill when it comes to OTAs, and they’re massive! How massive? Well, their site receives over 140 million unique visitors and over 2 billion monthly site page views.

How much they cost: This information is not publicly available.

How to sign up: Sign your tour business up here (opens in a new tab) .

Why we love them: Orbitz (opens in a new tab) boasts over 10 million unique visitors a month. They were purchased by Expedia for a humble $1.3 billion and are now part of the brand’s massive travel portfolio.

How to sign up: Sign up here (opens in a new tab) .

3. Viator (a.k.a. TripAdvisor Experiences)

Why we love them: Viator (opens in a new tab) is well on its way to becoming the holy grail of OTAs. Why? They’ve recently been acquired by TripAdvisor. So by working with Viator, you’ll also get access to TripAdvisor’s audience and all of their affiliate sites — giving you access to over 350 million unique visitors a month! They also have 24/7 support to help you out, should you encounter any roadblocks.

How much they cost: Sign-up is free. They only charge a commission on successful sales.

How to sign up: Fill out the simple form here (opens in a new tab) .

Take note: Viator will only advertise the best published net rates for your tours.

4. AirBnB Experiences

Why we love them: Anyone can be a tour guide on AirBnB Experiences (opens in a new tab) ! All you need is a great, unique idea.

How much they cost: Sign-up is free, but they charge hosts a 20% service fee on all experiences.

How to sign up: Register here (opens in a new tab) .

5. Thrillophilia

Why we love them: Thrillophilia (opens in a new tab) offers over 10,000 activities in over 150 locations. They also provide analytics and data, as well as a sales support team, to make sure that you are getting maximum value out of their marketplace.

How much they cost: Listing is free; the commission is paid upon successful bookings.

How to sign up: Register your tour business here (opens in a new tab) .

6. Take Tours

Why we love them: TakeTours (opens in a new tab) offers over tour packages around the world. They also have an app that makes booking tours with them a hassle-free experience for their users.

How much they cost: Most tour operators only pay them a commission when a booking is made. And, if they don’t make sales for you, they’ll advertise your tours for free!

How to sign up: Send them an email at [email protected] (opens in a new tab) , or give them a call at +1 617 500 7002 x 5.

FareHarbor

As a tour operator, you’re already aware of the operational challenges you face. You need to manage customer bookings, schedule transportation and plan out daily activities, arrange entry to the sites your groups will visit, select the best local guides… and that’s only the beginning.

Now take a step back and ask yourself: What do many of these challenges have in common? They’re all, to some degree, challenges that require communication and organization. Thankfully, communication and organization are two things that software is very good at helping you manage. Tour operator software is software that helps you do just that.

In this Buyer’s Guide, we’ll cover the following questions and topics:

What Is Tour Operator Software?

Common features of tour operator software, what type of buyer are you, benefits of tour operator software.

Tour operator software is computer software that’s tailormade to assist with the bulk of operations required to run a successful tour operations business. While there other genres of software that can help with this— CRM software , for example—these solutions often require additional tools, or expensive customization, to do what tour operator software can do out of the box.

Of course, no two tour companies are exactly the same, and that’s also true of tour operator software. To get the best return on your investment, it’s important to choose a solution that aligns with your specific needs.

Many tour operator software systems are deployed in the cloud and sold as Software as a Service (SaaS). This means companies pay for a subscription (monthly or yearly) to the software and can then access it from any device with an internet connection. This can be a huge benefit for on-the-go tour operators, as it lets them access software features directly on their mobile phones.

Businesses looking for more tools to manage lodging and flights might be interested in evaluating travel agency software .

The key to selecting software, regardless of your industry, is to begin the selection process by carefully considering the following questions:

How can software help us with our most common and repetitive tasks and workflow processes? The key here is to find software that will support and add efficiency to your existing operations. It’s rarely advisable to purchase software that will require drastic changes to your day-to-day operations, unless those changes are necessary for a new business strategy.

How can software help us meet our (forward-looking) strategy goals? If your company has plans to create a better online experience for guests, for example, then this should be kept in mind when weighing your many software options. Changing a company’s software infrastructure is often the most effective way of ensuring strategy goals are met.

After considering these questions, you can further narrow your list of options by asking the following:

What software do our business partners use? If you rely on third-party services for any aspect of your tour operations, consider how your software purchase could improve those relationships. For example, if a hotel that you work closely with has a particular hotel management system , you should consider how well your own new system might integrate with the hotel’s system.

At which locations will we need to access our tour operator software system? Some tour operators may only need to access the software from one workstation in their office. Others might need to access it from mobile devices, so guides can access and update information while out on a tour. This question will help determine which deployment model to opt for and help plan your budget for individual software licenses.

Increase customer satisfaction: When software handles some of the mundane tasks of running a tour operation, you and your staff will have more time to focus on the people that count: your customers. Many tour operator software systems also allow for customer and guest feedback, helping you stay on top of any complaints, compliments or suggestions for improvement.

Avoid double booking: Tour operator scheduling software can be a silver bullet for all of your scheduling woes, helping prevent double-bookings, among other things. The software is designed to track and manage multiple concurrent schedules, and some even do so in cooperation with your third-party business partners. It can even help prevent no-shows by sending well-timed reminders to customers with upcoming trips.

Increase sales of value-adding services: With payment portals and click-to-add purchasing capabilities, tour operator systems can improve your sales performance by increasing the value of individual transactions. For example, when a customer is about to book their beach tour, the software can ping them with an offer to add on a dive trip or snorkel equipment rental.

Improve insight into business operations: Ever wonder why some customers seem to love the special deals you offer online or through email marketing , while other customers only commit to purchases they discuss in person? Tour operator software supplies the data and insight needed to identify trends among your customers and answer questions like these.

Increase employee satisfaction: Tour operator software takes much of the busywork out of running a tour operation. With fewer repetitive tasks in the way, staff can spend more time focusing on customers and improving the business. It’s also worth mentioning that employees can become more engaged when they’re asked to do fewer repetitive mundane tasks.

This platform is phenomenal, and everyone I show it to absolutely loves it! From planners, to engineers, real estate execs and economic developers, so in love!
Thank you so much - you guys make everything so easy and seamless that I sometimes don't know how to handle it! We are big fans of your platform.
We used the SeekBeak platform for a virtual contractors expo today and it went flawlessly! We used several of the different features (embedded YouTube videos, forms, maps, multiple room to room hotspots, email inquiries) and even linked to six different Zoom rooms for each digital "booth" so that our attendees could speak face to face with our project managers. We were able to effectively mimic the feel of an actual in-person event and our participants made several compliments about our virtual space. I am amazed at what we were able to pull off today, and that is with ZERO experience coding.
This is really great software, making a 360 virtual tour is shockingly easy with SeekBeak. I expected building something like a virtual tour would take weeks. I managed to get a simple tour up and running within 15 minutes. It's awesome. With the COVID-19 situation, companies are exploring virtual expos/summits as an alternative and SeekBeak is a neat solution for that.
"After the first year at SeekBeak I have had the best experience. The software works solidly and is very easy to use. In one word, PERFECT! ... I think this is the easiest way for everyone."
We use a lot of Blender for creating assets and scenes as well, then we usually use 360 renders as an output for tours now with SeekBeak as it's honestly one of the best platforms we've found. We are also using Unity and Unreal Engine to make a more explorative experience, but it is so much more accessible via your guys platform!
“We have been using SeekBeak for providing a sense of realism to clinical scenarios we use to teach our paramedicine, nursing and physiotherapy students. Self-directed learning and problem solving is encouraged through hotspots of text, pics, audio and external links. Interaction between disciplines has been promoted as we link to one another’s scene- knowing collaboration important in healthcare. Set up is very intuitive and with a brief demo to students- they are off! It has helped prepare them for knowing what might be in an upcoming exam; or presenting case scenarios in a safe though authentic way. Thanks, SeekBeak, and for your continued support."
"SeekBeak has proven to be a very valuable storytelling platform for our agency. We use it to share some of our innovative work, such as 360-degree infographics, corporate case studies and business presentations. With iPhones able to natively read QR codes, there is a lot of potential in linking 360 experiences with physical spaces. As part of our educational efforts, we have also held several workshops to teach how to start creating VR content, right from a smartphone. The main value propositions of SeekBeak are easy of use, cross-platform, rich feature set and strong enthusiastic support from its developer."
"The team at SeekBeak is one of the best we've ever worked with! Their commitment to innovation helps keep us on the leading edge of what's possible with 360° imagery. They take it 10 steps further by providing amazing responsiveness to client feature requests and comprehensive analytics that are unparalleled. SeekBeak is a company that truly exemplifies putting the customer first. Our work with their team has been an amazingly collaborative effort and we look forward to creating many more compelling 360/VR experiences with SeekBeak!"
"SeekBeak made it so easy to create a virtual tour to show off our education space to prospective students. It took us next to no time to set up and feedback from parents and students has been great!"

Five Things to Know About the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro

Stark practicing patience; records second runner-up in a row.

  • LA Championship
  • Tournament News

Hannah Green of Australia watches her shot from the second tee during the final round of the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro

Just days after Nelly Korda clamored for a platform on which she and her fellow pros can showcase their talents, the LPGA Tour heads to the biggest stage of them all: Hollywood. The sixth edition of the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro gets underway on Thursday at Wilshire Country Club, nestled in the heart of Los Angeles. Here's a look at what you need to know about the Tour’s return to the City of Angels.

The JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro has attracted a strong field of 144 players, which includes 17 of the top 25 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. And while Nelly Korda made easy work of last week’s venue at The Club at Carlton Woods, many of the world’s top-ranked players failed to advance to the weekend and are teeing it up in Hollywood looking for a bounce-back. Rose Zhang, Danielle Kang and Jin Young Ko are among those who didn’t play the weekend in Houston and are poised to compete this week. Both Zhang, who is making her tournament debut, and Kang, grew up in the Los Angeles area. Ko will make just her fourth start of the season as she’s had a limited playing schedule this year.

The field also features past champions Moriya Jutanugarn (2018), Minjee Lee (2019), Nasa Hataoka (2022) and Hannah Green (2023). Three sponsor exemptions were extended to Emma Talley, who picked the first top-five finish of her career in L.A. in 2018, Muni He who considers Wilshire Country Club one of her home courses and Yu-Sang Hou, who is splitting her time playing both the LPGA and Epson Tours in 2024.

Hannah Green Defends

Already a winner this season on the LPGA Tour, Hannah Green returns to Wilshire Country Club seeking a successful title defense for the first time in her LPGA Tour career. Green, who won the HSBC Women’s World Championship earlier this year at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore, picked up her third career victory last season in Los Angeles. The Aussie won in thrilling fashion by draining a 25-footer on the 72nd hole to get into a playoff with Aditi Ashok and Xiyu Lin. Green then won with a par on the second extra hole at Wilshire Country Club, a dramatic victory which marked her first win in four years on the LPGA Tour.

Big Bucks Up for Grabs in Hollywood

In 2023, when JM Eagle and Plastpro took over sponsorship of the LPGA’s annual Los Angeles Tour stop, they did so with the commitment to elevate the tournament, hoping to serve as a motivator for other events to follow suit. They immediately doubled the tournament’s purse to $3 million and continued their commitment to women’s golf by increasing the purse again this year to $3.75 million, additionally covering the cost of hotel accommodations for players in the field. The purse of the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro is the largest outside the majors and CME Group Tour Championship.

How to Watch

Golf Channel and Peacock will carry live coverage of the first and second rounds at Wilshire Country Club on Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. ET. Third and final round coverage will also air live on Golf Channel and Peacock on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. ET.

What’s Next?

Following this week’s trip to Hollywood, the Tour takes a one-week hiatus before returning to action with back-to-back weeks in New Jersey for the Cognizant Founder’s Cup, where Jin Young Ko is defending champion, and the Mizuho Americas Open, where Zhang earned her breakout win in 2023.

Tesla announces change of plans to build cheaper electric cars

Avatar for Fred Lambert

Tesla announced that it is changing its product plan to introduce cheaper electric cars to be built on its current production lines.

Tesla has been working on its ‘next-generation vehicle platform’ that is expected to enable a new manufacturing process called “unboxed” that should produce cheaper electric vehicles. The automaker has previously talked about two upcoming vehicles on the platform:

  • a model cheaper and smaller than Model 3, sometimes being referred as the “$25,000 Tesla” or “Model 2”
  • Tesla Robotaxi: a new vehicle designed from the ground-up for self-driving.

A few weeks ago, Reuters reported that “Tesla has canceled the long-promised inexpensive car”. CEO Elon Musk called the publication “liars” for reporting that.

However, Electrek reported last week that Tesla had indeed stopped all work on the new planned cheaper vehicle based on the new platform. Inside sources confirmed that Musk canceled a Gigafactory Texas expansion for the new vehicle codenamed NV9.

Today, with the release of its Q1 2024 financial results, Tesla confirmed the change of plans for its cheaper electric vehicles.

Tesla started by writing:

“We have updated our future vehicle line-up to accelerate the launch of new models ahead of our previously communicated start of production in the second half of 2025.”

Musk had previously announced plans to build next-gen vehicles toward the end of 2025.

Tesla continued:

These new vehicles, including more affordable models, will utilize aspects of the next generation platform as well as aspects of our current platforms, and will be able to be produced on the same manufacturing lines as our current vehicle line-up.

This confirms that more affordable vehicles are still confirmed, but not on the new production lines based on the “unboxed” system, which is in line with our previous report that Musk shut down the expansion for NV9.

Tesla explained the reason behind the change:

This update may result in achieving less cost reduction than previously expected but enables us to prudently grow our vehicle volumes in a more capex efficient manner during uncertain times. This would help us fully utilize our current expected maximum capacity of close to three million vehicles, enabling more than 50% growth over 2023 production before investing in new manufacturing lines.

Finally, Tesla confirmed that its previously announced Robotaxi will still be built with the new “unboxed” system:

Our purpose-built robotaxi product will continue to pursue a revolutionary “unboxed” manufacturing strategy.

Musk previously said that Tesla plans to unveil its new Robotaxi on August 8th.

Electrek’s Take

Some good and some bad news. Without the unboxed system, it’s likely that we can kiss goodbye to the previously mentioned $25,000 price point.

This is good news, and seems smart: Building in current factories using current techniques...Smart. The next best thing to actually having a modular platform. Why reinvent the wheel you actually invented?

Regarding price: $25K was an arbitrary number thrown out some years ago: Anything around 30 will be fine. There will be a synergy with size. In much of the world, Tesla's are large cars. A lot of people prefer, or want smaller cars. Sometimes this equates to low price, but sometimes a nice small car is not cheap. Mainly in the US is "small" automatically equated with cheap.

The comments about the Y and 3 being stale are a little lazy. The Y was the best selling car in the world last year, and the 3 was significantly updated and will do well in the sedan sector. But having just 2 mass market cars is not a good thing, and that in itself seems stale after a few years. So a new small car will be an important change in how Tesla is viewed.

A small car at a fair price will sell very well worldwide. So will a performance version at a higher price. Doing so without revamping manufacturing is smart...finally something smart. And if done in a timely manner, it will really boost the company. This is positive news to me.

Tesla is signaling still cheaper EVs coming, but the automaker has already maxed out a lot of the cost-cutting on the existing platform and manufacturing lines. They will likely be smaller and cheaper, but I doubt they will come close to $25,000.

However, they could come faster on the existing production lines. Tesla is not going as far as confirming that, but it sort of hints at it.

Or it could also be that only the Robotaxi timeline is accelerated.

After all, Musk did announce a sooner-than-expected unveiling of the Robotaxi after canceling the NV9 program.

Deal Dive: Givebutter is turning a profit making tech for nonprofits

tour platform

Givebutter started in a George Washington University dorm room in 2016 as a software solution to make nonprofit fundraising more transparent and fun. Eight years later, the company is profitable and it just raised $50 million to scale as momentum for nonprofit-focused startups appears to be growing.

The company’s co-founder and CEO, Max Friedman, fundraised for a variety of organizations in college, ranging from raising for charities through GW’s Greek life to raising for national nonprofits like TAMID. Friedman told TechCrunch that regardless of the size or scope of the organization he was fundraising for, they all had the same problem: They all used a disjointed mix of one-solution tech software that didn’t really make the process better and often came with hidden fees.

“We realized that nonprofits are using a lot of different tools to solve different pain points, and what we can do for the sector is bringing it all under one roof,” Friedman said. “It exists in restaurants and in e-commerce; there [was] no Shopify or Toast for nonprofits.”

The result was Givebutter, a CRM platform for nonprofits that strives to be transparent and all-encompassing. It features marketing resources, ways to track donors, fundraising tools for a variety of different strategies, and payment processing. Nonprofits can either use Givebutter for free, if their fundraising campaigns offer a place for users to donate to Givebutter, or organizations pay a 1% to 5% platform fee.

“From day one, we had customers,” Friedman said. “It was very clear that there was a lot of demand for great fundraising tools and not a great tool set for those change makers.”

The startup raised $50 million from Bessemer’s Venture Partner’s BVP Forge Fund with participation from Ardent Venture Partners this week. Friedman said the money will be used for marketing to help the startup scale as the company has grown to this size thus far largely with almost zero marketing spend.

What initially got me interested in this deal — beyond the fact that the company is profitable from a largely donation-based revenue system or the fact that it calls its employees “Butter Slices” — was that it was a sizable round in the nonprofit tech sector, which has been popping up significantly more as of late.

During the most recent YC Demo Day, two startups, Givefront and Aidy, were building tech for nonprofits. While these companies weren’t the first nonprofit-flavored startups to ever go through YC, they are some of the first to be building software for the nonprofits; many past YC companies in the space are nonprofits themselves, and Givefront and Aidy absolutely stood out in this year’s AI- and dev-tool-dominated cohort .

I asked Friedman if it felt like momentum in this category had changed since he got started eight years ago, and Friedman said it definitely has and that the timing is right for this category. There has been a lot of recent consolidation in the space, especially regarding private equity-backed nonprofit software players like Bloomerang and Bonterra , each of which has made a handful of acquisitions in the last few years alone. This leads to higher fees and many nonprofits looking for less-expensive solutions, Friedman said. Once people get interested in the sector, he said, they often realize how big the potential market is.

In 2022, Americans donated nearly $500 billion to charity, according to the National Philanthropic Trust , down 3.4% from 2021. There are more than 1.5 million nonprofits and growing, and building to even get a slice of that market could provide a huge windfall. Givebutter is a good example of this. The company works with more than 35,000 nonprofits and has processed more than $1 billion in donations, but it is still barely making a dent in the overall nonprofit industry.

“We have about 1% market share,” Friedman said. “That’s amazing. I’m really proud of that, but I’m also like there are 99% of nonprofits out there that can benefit, and a big part of why we raised was to go do that.”

Givebutter might just start to run into more competition on the way. “Nonprofits are incredibly resilient,” Friedman said. “There [have] been downturns and upturns in the economy for a number of years and nonprofits have grown. Nonprofits also solve some of the world’s largest problems. I’m happy to see more people being aware of that and investing in that.”
