Learn About the Central Coast Creative Corps –The Arts Council forms an unrivaled regional initiative Exciting news abounds as the Califor nia Arts Council funds a groundbreaking initiative in our region known as the Central Coast Creative Corps (CCCC). To advance civic engagement, public health, social justice , and climate resilience throughout the Central Coast, six county arts agencies have formed a coalition and allocated substantial grants totaling $140,000 to 23 esteemed community-based organizations.
The CCCC is led by a consor tium of arts entities, including the Arts Council for Monterey County, Arts Council Santa Cruz County, San Benito County Arts Council, San Luis Obispo County Arts Council, Santa Barbar a County Office of Arts and Culture , and Ventur a County Arts Council. As the program spans six counties, seamless cooperation among county-designated arts agencies is vital to ensure efficient program administration and seamless communication channels.
The 23 community-based par tners selected for this initiative will collaborate with a r tists and culture bearers from diverse disciplines, tackling per tinent regional challenges head-on. Under this initiative , each grantee will have the oppor tunity to work alongside an a r tist or artist collective for a duration of one year, commencing in September 2023. Community organizations will each hire an artist or artist team based on their exper tise, capabilities, and the key issue area they will address, like public health or civic engagement.
The diversity of organizations comprising the CCCC community partner grantees exemplifies the project's commitment to equitable representation. Notable recipients include the Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley, Blue Sky Center, LULAC Colonia Council, and the Barbareño Chumash Tribal Council, among others. In SLO County, we are pleased to represent R.A.C.E. Matters and Lumina Alliance. These organizations have demonstrated commendable dedication to community service and advocacy, positioning them as crucial contributors to the CCCC's overarching mission.
Importantly, the CCCC is an integral component of the California Creative Corps, established to accelerate economic and workforce recovery in communities adversely impacted by the pandemic. Through the amalgamation of ar ts, culture, and community-based effor ts, this comprehensive approach aims to foster resilience and prosperity throughout the state
As the initiative unfolds, it promises to redefine the landscape of artistic endeavors and community empowerment throughout the Central Coast. For comprehensive details on the CCCC and its mission, please visit www.centralcoastcreativecorps.org. Additionally, Spanish-language assistance is available.

Across San Luis Obispo County, we’ll hear from artists of varied mediums, including glass works, woodcarving, jewelry design, sculpture, and painting.
You’re invited to experience creativity through the eyes of participating artists who reflect our beautiful beaches, cliffs, and valleys through their art. Explore the views and influences that surround their unique studios.
Begin your excursion by visiting the studios nearest to you! If you don’t know where to begin, visit our links to help guide your adventure! We have a list of planned routes that are sponsored by local eateries/wineries! Ladies and gentlemen, that is most certainly how you put on a rock show. – Backseat Mafia
W.A.S.P. are here to provide a good time and to celebrate their legacy, and they do both of these things in spades tonight. – Metal Talk
“When you’re putting on a show as enjoyable as this, it’s no surprise why people keep coming back.” – Moshville
About W.A.S.P. [Text Wrapping Break]Few Bands in the history of Rock N’ Roll have ever incited the love, the hate, the raw emotional effect this Band has had on the world. From the very beginning, in the small venues of Los Angeles California, and later to the numerous countries worldwide that banned these Winged Assassins from performing live, the Band’s unique style of Shock and Rock caused Religious organizations, Local City Councils, Parliaments, and the Washington D.C. Senate to hold hearings in an effort to bar this group from selling records and trashing stages everywhere they played.
The band’s founding member, frontman Blackie Lawless, has led the group as its lead vocalist and primary songwriter since its beginning. His unique brand of visual, social and political comment took the group to worldwide heights and sold millions of records alongside a legacy of sold out shows across the globe for 4 decades.
Joined by bassist Mike Duda and guitarist Doug Blair, whose tenures in the band span 26 and 18 years respectively, along with drummer extraordinaire Aquiles Priester, will take the Band and the Fans back to where it all started. Complete with the stage show extravaganza that many fans never saw live.
Witness Live the Winged Assassins spectacle of “SHOCK and ROLL” as they take you Back…Back to the Beginning!

Member News | Open Studios Celebrates its 25th Year of Art Tours
- August 25, 2023
- Member News
The SLO County Arts Council is pleased to announce the Open Studios Art Tour for 2023. The event will take place on October 14/15 and 21/22 across San Luis Obispo County during National Arts and Humanities Month. Fine artists and crafters will open their studios to exhibit their art and share their creative processes, allowing visitors to experience art at its origin.
Visitors can create self-guided tours using the catalog produced in collaboration with New Times. Early in September, 5,000 printed catalogs will be in circulation and available for pickup at various arts venues: Studios on the Park (Paso Robles), The ARTery (Atascadero), Cambria Center for the Arts, Cruise Control Gallery (Cambria), Art Center Morro Bay, Left Field Gallery (Los Osos), The Bunker (SLO), EDNA Contemporary (SLO), SLO Museum of Art, Art Central (SLO), Clark Center (Arroyo Grande), Ron’s Nursery/Halcyon General Store (Arroyo Grande), and DANA Adobe and Cultural Center (Nipomo).
To inaugurate the 25th annual Tour, a Preview Show (featuring artwork from around the county) and Kick-Off Celebration will be held at The Bunker SLO (a new community gallery and showroom) from 6 to 9 pm on Friday, October 13. Participants will have the chance to meet artists and enjoy live music, food trucks, and a raffle!
A new addition this year is the introduction of Planned Routes. Studios have been grouped by medium and region to assist visitors in planning their Tours. Examples of Planned Routes include the Los Osos Jewelry and Functional Art Route, Pacific Coast Highway Route, North County Sculpture Route, and more. Local wineries and restaurants are sponsoring each route and offering discounts to Tour attendees. Visitors can also design their Tours based on studio demonstrations and workshops.
“Open Studios facilitates a personal connection between artists like myself and the local community. This event has a lasting, positive impact on both sides. I’m not aware of any other art event that achieves such a dual effect,” said OSAT Artist Tricia Reichart.
“The opportunity to not only share my art but also my studio space and techniques with the public is doubly rewarding. I take pleasure in giving live demonstrations of torchwork and stone settings. OSAT provides a complete experience,” expressed OSAT Artist Sal Orlando.

San Luis National Wildlife Refuge Complex announces availability of Comprehensive Conservation Plan and draft Environmental Assessment
Los Banos, California — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s San Luis National Wildlife Refuge Complex invites the public to provide comment on the complex’s Comprehensive Conservation Plan and draft Environmental Assessment, which will guide the purpose and management of the complex. The public comment period will be open for 45-days, from September 11, 2023 to October 26, 2023.
The completion of the CCP and draft EA is a priority for the refuge, and the refuge considers the availability of the CCP and draft EA an opportunity to seek community input for how the complex should be managed now in to the future, in partnership with local communities and the public.
The San Luis NWRC CCP includes the history of the refuge, current management activities and concerns, information about water acquisition and availability, refuge resources, future management goals and objectives and an overview of the plan’s implementation. The complex’s plan includes the San Luis and Merced refuges and Grasslands Wildlife Management Area. San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge has an established CCP and therefore is excluded from this CCP.
The public is invited to join refuge staff at a public meeting on the CCP and draft EA on September 27, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m . The public meeting will be held at the Los Banos Community Center Grand Ballroom (645 7th St, Los Banos, CA 93635). Participants will learn about the conservation plan and draft EA, and then have an opportunity to provide official public comment. Additional details about the public meeting will be announced in a subsequent press release.
Details about the CCP and associated draft documents can be found at the San Luis National Wildlife Refuge website. The Notice of Availability is in the Federal Register's reading room today and the document will publish on September 11, 2023, starting the official comment period.
Public comments will help inform and guide the management of your public lands. Comments can be submitted to electronically at [email protected] (include “San Luis CCP” in the subject line of the message) or sent via U.S. mail to San Luis NWR Complex Headquarters, 7376 S. Wolfsen Road, Los Banos, CA 93635. Mail must be postmarked by October 26, 2023 to be considered as part of the official record.
The San Luis Complex is a critical stopover for migratory birds traveling the Pacific Flyway and provides refuge for many other native wildlife species and provides unique opportunities for connecting with nature through wildlife viewing, photography, hunting, fishing and hiking.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service works with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
