6 Travel Conferences You Must Attend in 2023 – 2024

6 Travel Conferences You Must Attend in 2023 – 2024

After two years of darkened hotel ballrooms and piles of chairs locked up in conference room corners, the lights are finally switching on. The cobwebs have been swept away, experts contacted, and now the digital ads are in full swing. Travel trade shows are back and with them, enormous opportunity.

Travel agent events like conferences connect travel professionals from around the world to share knowledge, meet vendors and create new partnerships. And let’s be honest, it’s about time we abandon our desks and computer screens and see the world.

That said, below are 6 travel agents trade shows and conferences coming up in 2023-2024 to inspire you with exciting new ideas and help you expand your business vision.

1. Adventure Travel World Summit; Hokkaido, Japan

Do you sell adventure? Or are you looking to pivot into that niche?

The Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) sponsors a summit every year for tour operators, travel writers, industry partners and tourism boards who are involved in the adventure travel industry. But it’s much more than a conference. Summit participants join offsite trips in addition to hearing from keynote speakers, maximizing endless networking opportunities, sharing industry information and pitching new story ideas during Media Connect sessions.

The ATTA has already reserved Hokkaido, Japan for September 2023. The event will include adventures into the surrounding wilderness, business meetings and networking opportunities, and time for travel leaders to connect.

2. FITUR 2024; Madrid, Spain

FITUR is an International Tourism Trade Fair organized by IFEMA MADRID. In January 2022, Fitur hosted 600 exhibitors from 107 countries and welcomed over 100,000 visitors. Fitur serves as a meeting place for tourism professionals from around the world. It’s also the leading trade fair for inbound and outbound markets in Latin America.

Fitur targets both mass tourism and niche markets, showcasing new sectors each year as the tourism industry becomes more diverse. It also presents cutting edge technology including artificial intelligence, smart tourist destinations and big data.

Fitur will hold its 44th tourism trade show from January 24th – 28th, 2024. Targeting hotel chains, agencies, tour operators, technological companies, suppliers, transportation and institutions from around the world, Fitur 2024 will focus on how to strengthen post pandemic tourism and how to generate new business opportunities.

3. ITB 2024; Berlin, Germany

ITB takes place at the Berlin ExpoCenter City exhibition center. With more than 10,000 exhibitors, ITB is the largest convention in the travel industry. The convention presents informational stands on countries, destinations, hotels and tourism associations as well as on specialist suppliers, booking systems and transport operators. ITB is a platform for B2B travel industry leaders to meet and network.

ITB’s event will take place in Berlin from March 5th – 7th, 2024. The guest country of ITB 2023 will be Georgia.

4. IPW; San Antonio, Texas

How about a trip to the USA?

US travel exhibitors convene once a year in San Antonio, Texas for the U.S. Travel Association’s IPW international inbound travel trade show. At IPW, US travel exhibitors connect with travel buyers and media from more than 70 countries to share their products and build new business relationships. IPW showcases the American travel industry to its international visitors to promote and increase tourism in the USA.

The U.S. Travel Association’s IPW is the leading international inbound travel trade show. The next convention will take place from May 20th-24th, 2023.

5. ETOA’s Global European Marketplace (GEM); London, UK

For ETOA members only, GEM is ETOA’s annual travel trade event. Not just another tour operators’ event, here tourism suppliers meet new leads and reconnect with existing business contacts. With preset appointments based on business profile and goals, buyers and suppliers meet one-on-one throughout the event.

Participants also attend educational and networking sessions. Close to 400 global and intra-European buyers are invited to GEM’s upcoming event, which will take place from November 2nd – 3rd, 2023 in London, UK.

6. Travel Expo-Travel and Adventure Show

Looking for an excuse to visit a metropolitan center in the USA?

The Travel and Adventure Show is a traveling expo, which will meet in 9 different cities across the USA in 2023 including Chicago, Boston, NY, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Denver, San Francisco, Atlanta and Dallas.

For tour operators, travel agents and tourists alike, the Travel and Adventure Show gives travel companies the opportunity to maximize their marketing and sales by presenting to prescreened audiences. Buyers can obtain the most up-to-date travel and itinerary options, safety protocols directly from the source.

In addition, visitors can attend one or more of the dozens of educational and informational travel workshops that take place throughout the day.

Travel trade shows: are they worth attending?

The last two years wreaked havoc on the travel industry. According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), global tourism experienced its worst year on record in 2020. Destinations worldwide suffered a decrease by one billion in international arrivals as compared to the previous year due to the massive drop in demand and the serious travel restrictions.

But with travel restrictions lifting, the travel industry is returning in full force. According to a recent Pulse survey , 73% of business travelers agree that a general increase in business travel is extremely likely and 62% anticipate an increase in their own business travel compared to 2021.

With demand on the rise, it behooves any travel professional to continue networking, building strategic relationships and marketing their products in person at travel trade shows. If the expense was worth it to you in the past, then now, in the current travel industry, the ROI should prove to be even greater.

14 Best Travel Conferences to Attend in 2024

So, you’re now a travel influencer. Here’s a list of travel conferences to attend yearly, and why you should attend them. You may have a blog, or a big social media following, or you could be a vlogger. You now want to step up your game. Maybe learn more from people who have been in the business longer than you are. You may want to meet DMOs (Destination Marketing Organizations), or CVBs (Convention and Visitors Bureau) to partner with them.

Is attending a travel conference worth it?

Which travel conferences are worth the money, how do you get free tickets to travel conferences, southern travelers explore: travel conference for the southern us destinations, related links from southern travelers explore:, midwest travel network conference: a travel conference focusing on the midwest states, travel blogger exchange (tbex): the biggest travel blogger conference to attend, is tbex worth attending, tbex-related articles (or places covered by tbex):, women in travel summit (wits): female-centered travel blogger conference, wits-related articles (or places covered from wits):, travel blogging success, ipw: a usa travel association-sponsored conference, itb berlin: the biggest travel and trade show in the world, world travel market (wtm london), list of travel conferences focusing on consumer shows, travel & adventure show: the biggest travel consumer show in the us, world travel expo, list of travel hacking conferences, chicago seminars: an intermediate way to learn more about points and miles, ftu (frequent traveler university), list of travel conferences focusing on cruising, seatrade cruise global, other cruising-related posts, f&b@sea: an additional conference for food and beverage within seatrade cruise global, additional conferences that may help your travel content creation career., podcast movement: conference focusing on podcasts, vidcon: biggest conference focusing on video content (vlogs, youtube, and more), 2024 travel conferences to attend, share this:.

It depends. What do you want to get out of the conference? Do you just want to learn and sit in the sessions? Want to get discounted tours and activities by signing up for a conference? Do you want to meet destinations or companies to form partnerships with?

You need to figure out why you want to attend travel conferences so you can justify the cost of the entry tickets and the travel costs like hotels and airfare.

In no order and in my opinion, here’s a list of travel conferences that are worth attending.

  • Travel Blogger Exchange (TBEX)
  • Women in Travel Summit (WITS)
  • Southern Travelers Explore (STE)
  • Chicago Seminars (only if you are a travel hacker and know points and miles well)

Some conferences allow you to trade your time for a free ticket. It could be from volunteering for the conference or becoming a speaker. Volunteering for a conference means putting work in for a set number of hours. The type of work varies from helping man the registration booth, setting up, or doing random things for the conference.

Speaking at a conference can have its perks. You get free entry tickets to the travel conference. However, depending on how big that conference is, you could also get free hotel rooms and your flights compensated too. TBEX is one of those conferences that comp your flights and your hotel room if your topic is chosen.

It is highly competitive to be selected as a volunteer or a speaker, but it doesn’t hurt to try. Just fill out the form to speak or to volunteer and wait for the organizers to get back to you.

If you want a more intimate conference and you write content about the Southern states of the US, then Southern Travelers Explore is great. There are less than 60 tickets available, and the conference is usually held over a weekend. The schedule is perfect for those who are working full-time jobs and can’t take a lot of days off work.  Fly in on the first flight that you can get on Friday (or one of the later flights on a Thursday) and fly out on Sunday. Easy as that!

Southern Travelers Explore is a great way to meet brands and influencers who focus on Southern content. CVBs from the South are in attendance too, and you can get a chance to meet and network with them. If your goal is to work with CVBs or DMOs from the South, then this conference is for you. If you want to grow more as a content creator, then there are talks that are included in your admission. These talks vary from social media to video, and written content. There are goodie bags that you’ll get to take home after the event. There are also prizes that you can win!

Conference tickets cost around $200+ taxes and fees per person, which isn’t bad, and the location rotates yearly. 2023’s Conference was hosted by Irving, TX, and 2024’s will be at the Hilton in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

  • 6 Best Things to do in Irving, TX for a day
  • Things to do in Peppa Pig Florida (A Guide)

Much like Southern Travelers Explore, the Midwest Travel Network’s conference focuses on bloggers who want to write or focus on Midwest travel content. I have personally not been to this event, since I had conflicting schedules this 2023, but it usually happens in June, over 3 days (usually from a Thursday to a Saturday). The event changes its hosts yearly, but you can expect it to be hosted in a Midwest City. Like Southern Travelers Explore, you can also get a chance to meet CVBs and DMOs, as well as other content creators throughout the event. There are also talks that pertain to content creation and scaling up your business.

Conference tickets cost around $200+ with taxes and fees per person. 2023’s Conference is in Kansas City, MO and 2024’s will be in Shipshewana, Indiana.

Probably the biggest travel blogging conference out there, TBEx hosts multiple conferences, one in North America, one in Europe, and another one in Asia (or Africa for 2023). The first TBEX I attended was in Lafayette, Louisiana (North America) in 2022, and it has changed the way I treat my blog as a business. The number of networking opportunities you get as well as a chance to see more of the host destinations are more than worth the price you pay for the ticket.

When you buy a ticket to TBEx, you can sign up for some pre-tours (limited to 1 or 2, depending on the host cities), and a chance to attend a FAM (Familiarization trip) after the conference. The conference ticket also covers lunch, snacks, and after-parties that have dinner. You can also get to meet with brands and destinations one by one to connect with them. You can then turn these connections into deals and partnerships that will benefit both parties. Want to sign up for an affiliate program? These conferences may have sponsors that have companies that suit your needs. Want to partner with destinations to cover? Oh yes, they do have that.

TBEx is worth the entry fee, and if given a chance, I would go to all the different events in the cities they have, if the dates align with our travel. Having the chance to meet brands and attend pre- and post-BEX tours is worth your time. Think of it as having a workcation: where you get to explore a new city while also generating content for the host as well as networking with other people. In October 2023, TBEX will go to Africa for the first time and will be hosted in Durban, South Africa. TBEX North America is in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 2023, while TBEX Europe for 2023 was in Peloponnese, Greece. TBEX Europe will be in May 2024 in San Sebastian, Spain, which we already visited. Next year’s dates are usually announced a year in advance, so you can plan your trips accordingly.

A downside to TBEX is sometimes, the destinations that host the event could be hard to get to. One year, they hosted TBEX North America in Tri-Cities in Washington State. For a small destination with not a lot of links to a major airport, I decided to skip that event altogether. Not to mention having to fly all the way from the East Coast (in Jacksonville, FL where I am based), to the West Coast meant that the flights are exorbitant, and I needed to pay for a rental car too. Take note of the destinations and how hard (or easy) it would be to fly in and out of in case you are thinking about attending. I will skip Africa this time because the airfare is a few thousand dollars, and I would need at least two weeks off from work to just attend.

  •   One Day in Lafayette Louisiana (A History Tour)
  • Things to do in Kenner LA: Rivertown
  • 3 Outdoor things to do near New Orleans
  • Plantations near New Orleans or Baton Rouge LA
  • Things to do near New Orleans Airport (MSY) for 6 hours (or less)

Women in Travel Summit was in Puerto Rico in 2023 and is my first ever WITS conference. While the conference programming is good, I feel it is catered more to influencers on Instagram and TikTok than it is to blogging. I did like the session about doing the travel business with a full-time job as well as the SEO session.

WITS also offers pre-tours where you can sign up for free, as well as the chance to get FAM trips. There’s also the Media Marketplace, where you can talk to brands and other sponsors for potential business opportunities and partnerships. You’ll get a lot of value by signing up for WITS on the pre-tours, FAMs, and the ability to connect to other brands during the media marketplace. The sessions are a bonus for me and are always a plus if the host is in a destination that I have never visited before. Traveling somewhere and connecting with brands as well as fellow content creators is always a plus when doing these types of events!

2024 WITS will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, with a day out in Park City included!

  •   Vieques Puerto Rico

I’ve only learned about Travel Blogging Success (TBS) because some of the bigger bloggers started promoting it a lot through emails and social media. Unlike WITS and TBEX, which have pre and post-tour FAMs, TBS focuses strictly on content, and the sessions are all catered to that. The conference lasts 2 days with no pre or post-tours available for the ticket. The price of TBS is twice as much as WITS and TBEX, even on an early bird rate.

For the price you pay, you can get to learn from a big influencer. 2023’s main keynote is from A Blonde Abroad, and you can learn how to grow your creator-centric business from them too. I don’t have much experience of this conference to say if it’s worth going to or not.

2023’s Travel Blogging Success is available virtually and in person from Nashville, TN.

IPW is the US Travel Association’s conference, where media and trade partners meet in different cities held yearly. I personally have not been to an IPW but am excited to try and join if I get accepted as a media partner for 2024’s event.

2024’s event will be held in Los Angeles, California. Registration is already open for exhibitors but will have to reach out to a contact person to get Media credentials. You’ll then need to get approved before you can get access to IPW! Not sure if you’ll have to requalify yearly for the media pass though.

ITB Berlin is the biggest travel and trade show in the world. The location does not change every year and is usually in March in Berlin, Germany. I have personally not been to this event, but just adding it to the list to be on the radar. To get into ITB Berlin, one must provide a screenshot of at least 5,000 readers to the website from Google Analytics.

If you have a mostly European audience or want to focus on European travel, then ITB can be a solid choice for you when it comes to a travel and trade conference. I for one would love to write more about European content, given that we fly yearly to the continent to visit family.

WTM is a bit like ITB, where it is a travel and trade show focusing on the European market, mostly. I also have not been to this event but adding it in for future reference for me! WTM is always in London during November, with just the dates changing yearly. It is a bit predictable where one can just go to the same city and convention center, but not enough for me to justify going back to Europe a second time during the year just to visit (yet).

In a few travel blogging groups that I’m in, some people find WTM London and ITB to be excellent sources to meet brands they would like to partner with. These could be in the form of hosting and providing content, as well as affiliates for certain services.

If you’re not big on the content creation part of travel and just want to see what the world has to offer, why not visit a consumer show? Some of these consumer shows do talk to media, but out of our personal experience, nothing has really materialized in terms of partnerships for us. However, you can get a lot of inspiration from these consumer shows on where to travel next.

Some consumer shows sell tours and have promotions on the spot which are specials for the trade show.

The Travel and Adventure Show is a very consumer-friendly trade show. There are multiple booths that cater to destinations, cruises, and tour operators, and each has its own freebies or brochures that you are free to take. Some of these sponsors have promotions happening on the spot.

At one Travel and Adventure show in New York, they had amazing deals for Antarctic expeditions. I was nearly tempted to book a trip but realized I didn’t have the budget for it yet! The travel and trade show up the ante for you because you can get a LOT of information on different destinations at the exact same spot.

They even have book signings and other meet and greets and Travel and Adventure shows. Previous guests have been Pauline Frommer, Samantha Brown, and a few other travel influencers slash celebrities that you may have heard about.

The Travel & Adventure Shows do provide media passes for writers, but I didn’t particularly connect with any CVBs at the time, since they were mostly in the consumer mindset and getting people to visit their destination instead of building a partnership.

There are multiple cities for 2024’s Travel and Adventure Conference, including New York, Chicago, and Atlanta.

I don’t have a particular experience with World Travel Expo . The event for 2023 is in Miami, at a conference center close to the airport. I feel that it is more of a consumer-focused show with media invites to the event. I’ve included it in the list to add to my radar for next year’s event in case the dates align. For now, it appears that 2024’s event will still be in the Miami area.

Travel hacking means using points and miles to travel cheaper than paying cash. This means paying just taxes and fees while flying or staying in hotel rooms for free. Travel hacking takes a bit of time to learn. Once you know more, you can now reap the benefits of traveling without paying too much for it.

There are travel hacking conferences that focus on the art of learning more about the hobby. These conferences are rarely recorded, since some of the sweet spots and what is being discussed during the conference are not meant to be taught mainstream. We have been to the Chicago Seminars back in 2017 and it has been a game-changer in our life.

The Chicago Seminars are so-called because it is always in Chicago (close to ORD airport). The seminars are usually on Friday evenings and end on Sunday. The schedule is perfect for weekend travelers. During my first-ever Chicago Conference, my husband and brother-in-law tagged along, and they used the time to explore downtown Chicago while I was in the seminars. It is a perfect trip for those who have partners who have no intention of going to the seminars, and just want to explore a big city!

If you do attend, make sure you know at least an intermediate level of travel hacking. The topics are not really catered to beginners. There are plenty of online courses available online that you can pay for if you want to fast-track your learning, but there is also plenty of free content available. A few of the bloggers to follow if you are just learning would be Lucky at One Mile at a Time, and The Points Guy. The Points Guy (TPG) is catered to beginners and intermediate travel hackers, so you can binge-read a lot of his articles. There’s also a free course by 10x that you can join!

You can also network with fellow travel hackers during the event, but you usually just attend these seminars to learn more from the presenters. There are usually a few tracks to choose from when you are in the event to cater to what type of information you are looking for.

Like the Chicago Seminars, FTU focuses on travel hacking information but has a bit more of a beginner-entry vibe to it. FTU changes its location for its conference (called FTU Signature) yearly, but you can pay to see some of its information online.

I have not been to any FTU conferences yet but planned to go to one eventually. It will be a good way to compare what would be available in FTU vs what’s in the Chicago Seminars and if the same people are attending both. You go to these seminars to learn more about sweet spots and other things you may not know about travel hacking. You don’t go to these conferences to partner with brands unless you are using them to increase your number of points or miles through buying groups.

There is a small sub-niche of travel content creators that focus strictly on cruising. We get it, we ourselves are big cruisers and have already taken our three-year-old child on cruises multiple times. It is hard not to get addicted to cruising, and if you are in the cruising niche, or want to get more into cruising content, here are a few travel cruising conferences you can attend.

Panel during Seatrade Cruise Global

Seatrade Cruise Global is a trade show and conference in one, where leaders of various cruise lines get to mingle with destinations as well as cruise lines. Where it gets tricky is how to meet with the cruise lines in the expo as they do not have a booth of their own. Instead, the cruise lines are just freely roaming about and the only way to identify them is through their credentials.

Here are a few of my thoughts on Seatrade, having been accepted into their media program and from my first year of attending. First off, the expo floor is huge but is conveniently separated into two parts. The first part is for the destinations, which is what you’ll want to focus on if you are a travel content creator. The second part is for ship suppliers, so if you need materials for a ship or a boat, then that’s the place for you.

  • Rhapsody of the Seas (Royal Caribbean Cruise Review)

Within the Seatrade conference, you’ll get access to panels, press conferences (if on a press pass), private parties, and more. There’s even F&B@Sea, which is a trade show mostly for those who deal with food and beverage options. It’s a way to sample some food and drink without having to leave the convention area.

Seatrade is so huge that it gets overwhelming. It doesn’t help that I got an invite to the event late to the event. By the time I wanted to meet with destination representatives, the schedules are already full. If you have the time, do get some of the freebies on the expo floor from various destinations. They have amazing stuff up for grabs!

The conference is located yearly in Miami or Fort Lauderdale. There’s also a European leg held in Hamburg, Germany yearly, so you can do two Seatrade events a year if you are up for it.

While I haven’t personally been to Cruise 360 , it is much like Seatrade, which is a conference and trade show on cruising. One can get a media pass by applying for one, and it includes entry to the panels, the expo floor, and any press conferences. If you are trying to get credits for CLIA certification, the ship tours count as part of your continuing education. Cruise 360 is the official conference from CLIA, the world’s largest cruise line trade association.

Cruise 360 is in either Fort Lauderdale or Miami yearly. A lot of cruise lines have a presence in Miami, so the who’s who of these companies are in attendance.

As a bonus, I’ve included a few conferences that may help your travel content creation career. These are not applicable to me now since I am mostly focusing on long-form writing on a blog but adding it in just in case I want to branch out more in the future.

With so many social media platforms coming out to create content on, there are always a few new conferences coming out. Here are two that have been more focused on podcasting and videos (long or short form).

Another conference I have never been to but thought would help podcasters out there to grow more. The cities change yearly, but if you want a podcasting conference that’s always in one location, there’s Podfest in Orlando.

I’ve never been to any of these podcasting conferences. From reviews I’ve heard from fellow content creators, Podcast Movement is pretty good but more catered to intermediate podcasters. Podfest in Orlando does have a track for beginner podcasters or just learning more about the media. As a plus, the tickets for beginners in Podfest are half the cost of the creator ticket (but do not have access to the actual learning tracks).

banner with crawfish balloons with text "Travel conferences to attend"

VidCon is usually in Anaheim, California, but is going to Baltimore in 2023. A lot of your popular vloggers and video content creators go to this conference, and you can get a chance to meet them. I feel this conference is the best way to up your video content creation game if you’re on the industry track and a way to learn more from those who have millions of subscribers.

Video is a great way to get sponsorships, ad revenue, and a way to create a base for your followers to follow you in your other endeavors. VidCon does not come cheap for the industry track, but you can get a community track for $50 a day. You can then get a chance to go to the expo floor to meet exhibitors and meet your favorite creator who’s attending.

VidCon has other events happening all over the world, so just depends on where you are located. The one I mentioned above is the United States track. Will I ever attend VidCon? Maybe, it just depends if I can have enough bandwidth to focus on video creation as part of our travel business.

With a really long list of travel conferences to attend for the year, how many are you planning to go to? Did I miss any conferences that you should absolutely attend? Please feel free to let me know and leave them in the comments below!

If you are just starting out, pick and choose which ones to go to (or use my list of conferences to try above). The entrance fees to attend may be a barrier to entry. Time is also a factor when visiting an event, especially if you’re still building your travel business on top of your full-time job. In my case, we try to pick and choose the conferences that we feel would return the most investment and in a destination we haven’t been able to visit. We then treat these conferences as a workcation where we can see and visit a new destination while trying to grow a business!

Seasonal themes

Holidays and the changing of seasons are prime opportunities to celebrate the beginning, middle, or end of a chapter. Tap into these themes for a year’s worth of seasonal inspiration.

❄️ Event theme idea #1: Winter wonderland

Bringing your attendees together during the holidays? Well, cue the jingle bells. Think snowy winter decor, red or blue accent pieces, and Mariah Carey serenading your audience.

  • In person: Go wild with decorations, like evergreen trees, ice sculpture centerpieces, and fake (recyclable) snow. Consider serving treats like wassail, hot chocolate, eggnog, or hot toddies.
  • Virtual: Ask attendees to dress in their favorite winter-themed pieces. Then, they can enjoy the holiday goodies you sent before the event (think: gingerbread cookies and snowglobes) in style. Consider streaming music during festive bonding experiences like ugly sweater contests or lip syncing to the “Frozen” soundtrack.

🎃 Event theme idea #2: Pumpkin patch

Fall colors, pumpkin-spiced lattes, and pumpkin carving — what's not to love with this autumn-inspired theme? Crisp air calls for sweater weather, so plan your theme around peak coziness.

If you’re catering to an audience that’s based around the world or always on the go, a travel-based event theme could be the right pick. From international cuisine to learning about different cultures, these themes will have attendees searching for their next opportunity to experience the world.

🎈 Event theme idea #40: Around the World in 80 Days

Lean into the literary world of Jules Verne as you give guests the opportunity to explore the different cultures of each place featured in “Around the World in 80 Days.” Guide attendees on a journey from country to country within your event –– either in person or online.

  • In person: Go wild with decorations –– there’s no limit to how far you can take this theme. Want to give attendees a taste of everything? Consider securing food trucks featuring cuisine from different cultures so attendees can country hop.
  • Virtual: Decorate virtual event rooms with relevant designs from some of the countries featured in Jules Verne’s classic story. To elevate the experience, you can send ingredients for cooking classes where attendees can make different dishes from around the world or hop on a virtual country tour.

🏡 Event theme idea #41: Hometown glory

Tap into your attendees’ sense of hometown pride by celebrating the cultures, traditions, and people where they live or are from originally.

  • In person: Host a community service day where your attendees can give back to their local area while wearing matching hometown shirts. Follow it up with a block party catered by local restaurants or a potluck dinner featuring local eats and drinks.
  • Virtual: Far-flung attendees can celebrate where they live and share their pride with mini presentations about their hometowns. Consider sending delivery vouchers beforehand so guests can buy drinks and a local meal or snacks to enjoy during the event.

🌸 Event theme idea #42: Hawaiian luau

Aloha! Skip the flight and bring a Hawaiian paradise to your attendees with floral decorations, a beach bonfire (whether real or digital), and relaxed clothing.

  • In person: Encourage attendees to dress in their best island-chic attire (Hawaiian shirts encouraged) and provide leis as they enter. Host hula and lei-making lessons, and let guests connect over Hawaiian-inspired food and drinks.
  • Virtual: Live stream a hula dancing or lei-making tutorial for attendees. Get guests in the island spirit by shipping a variety of luau-themed props like tiki torches, leis, and sunglasses to wear during the event.

🇺🇳 Event theme idea #43: United Nations

The United Nations (UN) stands for peace and unity, so this theme helps create an inclusive and welcoming experience regardless of your venue space.

  • In person: Design a space where attendees can learn about the UN and its work. Display country flags and consider tapping a variety of caterers to share cuisine from different member countries of the UN.
  • Virtual: Create a virtual world fair with an online space where attendees can build connections. Highlight different member countries, so guests can explore their contributions to the UN. If you have a virtual map, have a representative from each country "pin" their location.

🥬 Event theme idea #44: International food competition

From appetizers to desserts, this theme has something for everyone. Not only can it introduce attendees to new foods while they connect with one another, it’s also a great theme for fundraisers, charity events, and internal company gatherings.

  • In person: Model your venue after the set of a competitive cooking show. Next, divide attendees (chefs) into teams representing different countries. Then, give everyone the chance to cook and compete for the top prize in your international food competition.
  • Virtual: Host a virtual cook-off with a variety of international foods for attendees to choose from. Send nonperishable ingredients and grocery vouchers beforehand so everyone can get cooking.

Outer space themes

Sometimes travel-based themes just don’t feel like they get far enough away from the “real world.” Bring cosmic daydreams to life with space-based themes that are truly far out.

🚀 Event theme idea #45: Space travel

Host an out-of-this-world event that explores new frontiers and celebrates humanity's boundless curiosity. From astronaut ice cream to zero-gravity games, there are endless possibilities for this event theme.

  • In person: Turn your venue into an intergalactic space station –– or a different planet. Serve starfruit punch, asteroid cookies, and Mars ice cream bars . Promote a stellar experience by requesting that attendees dress in astronaut costumes or encouraging them to hatch an idea for a costume inspired by a different planet.
  • Virtual: Transport your guests into outer space by kicking off the event with space exploration videos. Also, consider inviting an expert from a space organization to host a live stream about their work.

👾 Event theme idea #46: Life on Mars

We’ve long been pondering the concept of life on Mars –– so, why not bring that concept to attendees here on Earth? Encourage guests to dress in their finest galactic ensemble, and connect over the ins and outs of celestial real estate.

  • In person: If you have the space, decorate your venue like an otherworldly landscape. Serve martian watermelon slices, intergalactic-inspired appetizers, and edible glitter-infused cocktails and mocktails.
  • Virtual: Start your event with a virtual reality experience of what it would be like to walk on the red planet. To get attendees talking, host a discussion about what they would miss most if they had to move to Mars.

👽 Event theme idea #47: Alien life forms

This theme is geared toward the crowd who would've given anything to help ET phone home, but it can bring out the inner explorer in anyone.

  • I n person: Deck out your photo booth with a full moon background and bicycle with a basket as a prop. Serve intriguing alien-themed foods to wow the crowd. Consider hiring DJs dressed as extraterrestrials and have a costume contest for the best extraterrestrial outfit.
  • Virtual: Invite your guests to sport red hoodies for their chance in the full moon photo booth. Send retro space-themed snacks like Moon Pies, Reese’s Pieces, and green punch. Ahead of the event, send alien-inspired paraphernalia like antennae, ray guns, and space helmets to get everyone in the spirit.

Fantasy themes

Let attendees' imaginations run wild. From dragons to unicorns to superheroes, these themes are sure to inspire fantastic ideas.

🦹 Event theme idea #48: Superheros and villans

Celebrate industry superheroes and invite attendees to live out their superhero (or villain) dreams by dressing as their favorite characters.

  • In person: Turn your venue into Gotham by hanging black and green streamers and “wanted” posters of popular villains. Create a city skyline photo booth backdrop so attendees can practice their action poses and share them on social media.
  • Virtual: Create a virtual city with buildings attendees can explore while moving from session to session. Send superhero swag like capes, masks, and comic books ahead of the event. Then, invite attendees to dress up as their favorite characters and host a Marvel versus DC debate during a networking session.

🧙 Event theme idea #49: Wizards

Harry Potter has captivated audiences for years –– in part, because we love the idea of exploring magical worlds. Have some magicians to celebrate? This is the perfect theme to use for an internal or external event.

  • In person: Transform your venue into the great hall of Hogwarts by hanging banners with the school's crest and flying house flags. Serve pumpkin pasties, Butterbeer, and more wizarding treats. Bring in a green screen and have guests take pictures in front of magical backdrops.
  • Virtual: Before your event, send swag like wands, chocolate frogs, and other magical treats. Start the event by sorting attendees into their houses and sending them to virtual breakout rooms to network. Consider hosting virtual potion sessions, wand dueling tournaments, or a virtual Quidditch match.

🐰 Event theme idea #50: Cartoons

Give attendees a chance to connect with their inner child by taking them back to the world of cartoons. Encourage them to dress up as their favorite cartoon characters or bring a meaningful item for show-and-tell. Want to make it work for a corporate event? Consider aligning the theme so it's relevant to session topics.

  • In person: Model your venue decorations after a cartoon set. Next, place cartoon character cardboard cutouts around the venue for guests to take pictures with. Drive home the cartoon theme by serving colorful and fun-to-eat foods like cotton candy or popcorn in paper cones.
  • Virtual: Give your virtual event a colorful background and cartoon avatars for attendees to use. Ship cartoon props for use in the virtual photo booth along with character masks and childhood-inspired snacks.

These forums are essential for tour operators, travel agents, and all involved in the travel industry. They offer great networking opportunities and insights into emerging trends in smart tourist destinations.

Conference vs. Convention: What's the Difference?

The main difference between a conference and a convention lies in their purpose and audience. Conferences, part of travel conferences 2024, focus on professional development and sharing knowledge.

They're targeted towards specialists like tourism professionals and travel content creators. Conventions are broader, often including trade shows and entertainment, attracting a wider audience from companies in various industries, including the general public.

What is Conference Travel?

Conference travel refers to attending professional events, such press conferences such as travel conferences or trade shows, in different cities or countries. This type of travel is popular among business travelers, including those attending industry events in cities like San Francisco or Las Vegas. It combines attending the conference with exploring new destinations, making it a unique experience for travel professionals.

What Do Travelers Want in 2024?

In 2024, travelers are looking for unique and personalized experiences. They want to explore new and smart tourist destinations responsibly and sustainably.

Summit vs. Conference: What's the Difference?

A summit, like the Travel Summit, is usually a high-level meeting focusing on important decisions and discussions among thought leaders.

It's more exclusive and centered on key topics. A conference, such as ITB Berlin or TBEX Europe, is more about bringing professionals together to learn, network, and share knowledge on specific themes.

Is a Convention Bigger Than a Conference?

Typically, a convention is bigger than a conference. Conventions combine various aspects of an industry, including trade shows, networking events, and sometimes public exhibitions. They attract a larger, more diverse audience.

Select Traveler Conference Celebrates Travel’s Return

T he 2023 select traveler conference drew 258 upscale travel planners, industry members and vendors to branson, missouri, march 27–29, where both the host city and attendees confirmed the robust return of travel across the globe.   in a city almost unrivaled for tourism vitality, buyers and sellers alike spoke of 2023 as a record year in the making..

Branson is one of America’s greatest tourism success stories of the past 50 years and draws more than 10 million visitors annually to southwest Missouri. Home to more than 100 live musical, comedy and faith-based shows, Branson also features a thriving outdoor scene that draws fishermen, golfers, hiking enthusiasts and others to its Ozark Mountain foothills.

“Branson wowed our delegates for three days and showcased many venues and activities for Select Traveler groups to enjoy,” said conference partner Charlie Presley of the Group Travel Family. “Chateau on the Lake Resort was a superb host, and our four sightseeing options arranged by Explore Branson were entirely filled. What a beautiful afternoon we got for showcasing the area’s vast entertainment scene and heralded outdoors.”

Delegates dined one evening at a local favorite, McFarlains, with live traditional music; enjoyed an offbeat performance by Buckets ‘n Boards Comedy Percussion Show; were treated to a personal audience with the Haygoods entertainment family following their show at Clay Cooper Theatre; and relaxed at the chateau overlooking Table Rock Lake.

Bud Geissler of GroupCollect delivered a keynote address on new technology for tour management, and two marketplace sessions offered travel destinations and tour operators appointments with tour planners who are traveling again throughout America and the world.

Major meal sponsors included Collette, which offered a program around its worldwide travel destinations and held a drawing for a trip to Northern Italy, won by Margie Zieber of Farmers State Bank in Cameron, Missouri. U.S. Tours hosted a breakfast to introduce new European itineraries and their well-established domestic programs for groups. 2024 Select Traveler Conference host Visit Buffalo/Niagara sponsored an interactive event at its breakfast hosted by step-on guide service Buffalo Double Decker Bus Tours.

“Excitement for going to Buffalo/Niagara next year is really high,” said Presley. “Our day of arrival is St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, and the city has a nationally known parade and celebration for that international Irish event. It should be an exciting Select Traveler Conference in that great city.”

Breakout session energizes buyers

“P lease continue showcasing independent travel companies and bus companies at this conference — don’t Walmart travel.”

That was one of many comments turned in during this year’s buyer breakout session at the Select Traveler Conference held in Branson, Missouri.

Many travel planners who attend the conference are regular participants in this popular session, a longtime fixture on the first day of the three-day meeting. More than 40 planners made time to attend this year’s session, which was moderated by volunteers Lisa Passley of Southwest Missouri Bank in Joplin, Missouri, and Margie Zieber of Farmers State Bank in Cameron, Missouri.

“Once we get everyone settled in at tables, the conversations flow,” said conference partner Mac Lacy. “This is the only time all year that these influential planners can let their guards down and share ideas with one another in a noncompetitive environment. They will share their best ideas with one another and not think anything about it. It’s a pretty cool couple of hours.”

A couple of telling survey statistics jumped out from the session this year:

• 79% of travel planners said their program membership is growing again after the pandemic.

• 75% of planners are either very or extremely optimistic that new members will join their groups in the next three years.

“We email the summaries of the breakout session to all the attendees as a benefit of attending the conference, and the document serves as a credible gauge for travel activity in the year ahead,” said Lacy. “I think this session energizes a lot of planners and reassures them that they aren’t alone in navigating the challenges they face as global travel generators. Our thanks again to Lisa and Margie for moderating this year’s meeting.”

What delegates are saying

Branson hosts.

“The leisure group market is changing. It’s not just older travelers anymore. It’s students, performance groups, special interest groups and more. The future looks great for groups here in Branson. We devote a lot of dollars to this market, and the Select Traveler Conference fits our interest in quality over quantity.

“We’re emphasizing nature and health now. People of all ages want to be physically and mentally whole. It’s a mindset people have had since COVID. It plays well here, and once people come to Branson, they come back.”

— Samantha Gutting, Senior Vice President of Group Sales

Explore Branson

“Branson is back. Last year, we surpassed 10 million visitors. We are not your grandmother’s Branson anymore. We’ve beaten that. In addition to all our shows, we have the outdoors and Table Rock Lake. We have the boating life, fishing, championship golf courses, Big Cedar Lodge nearby and lots of first-class hotels to enjoy.

“Groups have always been some of our best ambassadors. When they go back home, they tell everyone about Branson. We want them to be completely satisfied while they’re here because they create word-of-mouth awareness that cannot be bought.”

— Anthony Stacy

Travel Buyers

“Prior to COVID, we were doing two major international trips each year. Our members became concerned about getting stuck somewhere overseas during COVID, but they are feeling better about traveling internationally now. We have a river cruise on the books for next year, and I expect to bring Europe back into the picture fully in 2024. We’re traveling again in the U.S. this year. Our trips here at home are great.”

—Joyce Lechtenberger, Vice President, Gold Club Director

First Security Bank, Mountain Home, Arkansas

“We’ll run three trips this year, including Mackinac Island this October. I think our program will continue to expand. People realize now that life is short, so they want to travel. Last year, I took 10 members on a river cruise on the Rhone River in France, and that sold me on river cruising. We’ll probably do the Danube next. I’m sure everyone who did the Rhone will come on that one, plus a lot more.”

— Cheryl Finley, GO Club Coordinator

West Plains Bank, West Plains, Missouri

“I started working with our bank group six years ago and became director in 2020. Our club has been around a long time; some say it’s 60 years old. Last year, we did two Alaska cruises with land tours. In 2016, we took 180 people on the Rhine and had the ship to ourselves. In 2024, we’re doing a Danube River cruise with Mayflower, and we’re hoping to do the same thing. We’re also doing Autumn in the Adirondacks, a Tennessee Christmas, and just got back last week from doing Florida’s National Parks.”

— Beth Hubbard, Vista Club Manager

First State Bank, Mendota, Illinois

Travel Companies & Destinations

“People know now that we are not guaranteed time. They are buying all the extensions we offer, and many are buying itineraries back-to-back. Some will do our Alaska 12-day trip and then add our nine-day Vancouver trip. The demand we’re seeing is remarkable. Our infrastructure throughout the world took a century to build and now it’s paying off. I come to the Select Traveler Conference because I like to see things for myself. I want my finger on the pulse, and your conferences allow me to do that.”

— Jim Edwards, Vice President, U.S. Affinity Development

“This is the first time I’ve attended the Select Traveler Conference in several years. We’re seeing the potential of this market for Savannah. My division targets groups of 10 rooms or more, so I also work closely with travel agents and home-based agents who can deliver groups of that size. Savannah markets to upscale groups like those represented here, and this is an introductory approach for me.”

— Anjuli King, Director, Domestic Group Tour and Entertainment Sales

Visit Savannah

“We’re expanding into international destinations, and it’s a great avenue for us with Select Traveler buyers. I’ve traveled internationally and can make suggestions about companies we use overseas, so I’m pretty involved in this expansion. We’re creating tours in western Europe, Israel, Egypt and Greece. We specialize in customization, so a group can work with us on what they want to include. As a longtime breakfast sponsor, we’re pretty invested here.”

— Tish Knudsen, Business Development Manager

Conferences are all about great content, so what better theme is there than a Netflix-inspired library of sessions? Gainsight delivered “binge-worthy” content available everywhere at any time. 10. The House Party, Electrified

Absolut House Party Event

In honor of Absolut’s limited edition Absolut Electrik bottle, MKG threw a house party… and cranked it up 10 notches. The event replicated a typical house party with a living room and garage space set-up and made it outside-the-box with a robot band, drone barbacks, and a 40’ tesla coil in the shape of the iconic Absolut bottle. The event organizers even implemented individual biometric bracelets that indicated the party’s energy levels to event-goers, with prizes unveiled as energy levels soared. Most importantly, with over 650 attendees, 100M earned media impressions, and 1.5M social media impressions — this event theme was a raging success ( source ).

11. Rainey Street Recreated

MillerCoors Rainey Street Corporate Event

For the annual MillerCoors’ Distributors Conference, which showcases 22 of MillerCoors’ top brands from Sol to Blue Moon, AgencyEA’s event strategy was to bring Austin’s infamous Rainey Street indoors. The organizers re-created the feel of the popular strip known for its craftsman-homes-turned-bars inside a convention center, right down to the multiple beer gardens. By aligning an engaging and location-relevant corporate theme with their customer’s brand, AgencyEA created a successful event that will be replicated in 2019.

12. Getting Buzz(ed)

SodaStream Mock Protest Event

Known for the buzzing sound its machines make when in action, SodaStream capitalized on that theme for a marketing event series that ran the gamut. From country-wide tours that showcased the cost-effectiveness of the product to mock protests complete with “Free the Bubbles” signs, while participants in Spring Break-friendly locales were gifted “get Buzzed” shirts — Eventive Marketing successfully implemented a multi-event strategy around this theme, generating impactful buzz on social media.

13. Block Party

AOL Open Block Party Event

Rather than the traditional presentation to showcase AOL’s open-platform model to influencers and consumers, First Global Events Agency opted for an open-platform event. The goal was to best reflect the product their customer was promoting. In this block party-themed reveal, the event organizers made use of drone-led obstacle courses, celebrity meet-and-greets, and concerts featuring Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, and Demi Lovato.

15. Iconic Influencers

Instagram IGTV Influencer Rooms Event

For the 2018 launch of Instagram’s IGTV, NVE Experience agency turned an empty San Francisco venue into eight separate “rooms” that represented eight iconic Instagram influencers. These influencers then used the new IGTV product to share the first video content from their designated spaces. 16. Paint a Story

Sherwin-Williams Story Book Themed Event

To celebrate 150 years of business, Sherwin-Williams wanted to present the history of their paint company—without boring attendees. To do that, LEO Events created a two-story digital “open book” as a stage backdrop. An actor playing co-founder, Henry Sherwin, then stepped out of the book and onto the stage to describe the beginnings of the company. The celebration also included a clock of oversized paint chips, a commissioned custom song called “We’ve Got a Story To Tell,” and virtual painters “painting” the Sherwin-Williams logo on-screen—all that served to engage the audience throughout the night.

17. Satisfy Your Soul

House of Marley Tour Event

Photo source: On Board Experiential Marketing

To promote House of Marley headphones, On Board Experiential Marketing repurposed and customized the infamous, vintage Volkswagen vans on a “Satisfy Your Soul” Tour that targeted potential retailers and lifestyle events. Participants could partake in the experience by hanging out at the House of Marley mobile listening stations, developing their own Marley track, or supporting the One Love campaign developed to fund Little Kids Rock, an organization that helps underserved children receive music education. This smaller-scale event created a quality experience that reflected the relaxed vibe of the House of Marley brand while exhibiting the product and allowing participants to experience it at their convenience.

18. Jump for Joy

Citibank Back to Childhood Event

Awards were doled out by ATM look-alikes called JOYTMs, which dispensed joy in the form of concert tickets, airline miles, and gift cards. This Soho Experiential event helped create a positive event brand experience with existing Citibank customers and potential customers alike.

19. Lights, Camera, Action!

Delta Hollywood Themed Event

Although you’ve certainly heard of a Hollywood-themed event, Delta Airlines took it to the next level for its event with top marketing executives. Different areas of the Paramount Studios’ backlot were decked out according to the decade of notable movies and TV shows. They created a 50s Grease / Laverne and Shirley area with muscle cars and hamburgers; the 60s Austin Powers space had its very own Austin Powers and Dr. Evil, while the area was dedicated to The Godfather and the 70s was accompanied by gangsters and pizzas.

20. En Blanc Party

Dinner En Blanc Event Theme

Diner en Blanc , which translates to “Dinner in White,” is a pop-up dinner event that was first made popular in Paris during the late 80s. The now-global trend served as inspiration for a conference welcome reception. Here, white linens and lanterns set the scene alongside living statues. Guests, naturally, were encouraged to wear white.

Pro tip: for those on a budget, this event is a cost-effective theme that makes use of the traditionally white tablecloths and chairs supplied by venues.

21. A Christmas Carol Celebration

A Christmas Carol Holiday by Bright Ideas

It’s generally more inclusive to go with a general holiday theme for a company Christmas party, but Bright Ideas elevated the holiday theme for a corporate client by creating an event around the holiday classic, A Christmas Carol . To do this, the event organizers built a European village inside a 20,000-square-foot venue with different areas thematically corresponding to the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.

22. A Kids Party for Adults

Everis Global Grown Up Kids Corporate Event

Adults released their inner child at the 20th anniversary of consulting group Everis Global, where traditional kids’ activities were reinvented for adults. The party had walls of balloons, soap bubble rain, lasers, acrobat, and, of course, clowns.

23. Swimming in Ink

Epson Ink Synchronized Swimming Event

To promote Epson’s new EcoTank printers that come loaded with two years’ worth of ink, the iDEKO Production team developed the “Swimming in Ink” concept. The U.S. National Synchronized Swim Team performed in a 17,000-gallon tank in Times Square that was colored in the traditional ink colors of cyan, magenta, and yellow. As an attendee swag, guests could print photos of the event from EcoTank printers, which served to incorporate the new product as part of the overall experience.

24. Mini-Golf Pop-Up

Groupon PGA Mini-Golf

Groupon customers got to play a whimsical round of mini golf at a pop-up in New York City. PGA pros, like Graeme McDowell, were there to chat with attendees, play a round of golf, and attendees even got a chance to attend an exclusive PGA dinner later that evening. This theme was particularly effective as the proceeds benefited a PGA charity.

25. New Age Made Newer

Cisco New Age Product Release Event

Cisco’s reveal of their Network Intuitive initiative wasn’t ’70s-style New Age — it was 21st century New Age with glowing spheres, laser beam choreography, and glowing medallions worn by attendees. It all took place in a 12,000-person in-the-round theater. Talk about a wow factor!

26. U.S. National Parks Turned Conference

Dreamforce Trailblazer Nature Themed Event

27. Abstract Koi Pond Party

Koi Fish Abstract Event Theme

You’ve probably never been to a koi pond-themed party, much less an abstract koi pond-themed party. This awards event for a luxury hotel chain skipped the on-the-nose theme and opted for atmosphere instead. With subtle Asian accents, flashes of color, and, naturally, koi fish imagery on ghost chairs the planners behind Ultimate Ventures created a simple event theme that allowed guests to focus on the real focus of the night—the hotel itself.

This list of corporate event themes is memorable, but it only begins to tap the surface of the possibilities you could employ for your next event. Begin to find the perfect theme by combining a few of the ideas executed above, making sure that your event theme aligns with your overarching event strategy. Consider the following takeaways:

  • What is the purpose of this event?  Celebrating a new product release? An internal holiday celebration? Increasing public brand awareness? Understand your motive for hosting your next corporate event and let that guide the theme and space that will be the best fit for you.
  • Don’t restrict your event. Many of the most memorable events are centered around an experience—whether that means attendees get to try new headphones in a customized tour bus or participate in an interactive augmented reality maze. Make sure the theme you choose positively contributes you want to create.

As event planners, you also know that the theme is only the beginning. Consider upgrading your next event by employing an event management software that has the right features to help propel the success of your event—from branded event email invitations to execution to measuring the success of your event.

Travel Conferences I’ll be Attending in 2024

Now that you know what’s going in 2024, do you know which travel conferences you will go to? The ones included on this list are a majority that I have gone to at least once before or planning to go to this coming year. It’s hard to go to every single one every year as they can get a bit pricey with the flights and accommodations in various parts of the world .

In 2024, I’ll be attending Women’s Travel Fest (code ‘ LATINATRAVELER ‘ for $25 off) and Latino Travel Fest as of right now. I have my eye on Bansko Nomad Fest and the Nomad World Fest. It’s too far in advance to know about where I’ll be around that time for either. For the Nomad World Fest, it’ll come down to where they end up having it.

Will I see you at any of these travel conferences? I hope so! Send me a DM on Instagram to let me know which ones you’ll go to!

Make sure you’re following me on  Instagram ,  TikTok , and  YouTube  for more up to date content on where I’m at and where I’m going next. If you haven’t already,  join my email list  so you know about my adventures, general travel updates, and more before anyone else!

The Top Travel Writing and Blogging Conferences

Travel Writing Conferences

It is important for aspiring and professional travel writers, bloggers, YouTubers, and content creators to attend travel writing conferences. Conferences help like-minded peers network, gain inspiration, stay updated on industry news, learn new skills and sharpen old ones, and meet leaders in the field.

Attending a travel writing conference is one of the best investments you can make for your professional development.

While a few of the leading travel writing and blogging associations in North America organize major conferences and therefore require memberships to attend, there are some notable independent conferences that are open for all to attend.

Who should attend these conferences? Any creative “content creator” like travel writers, travel journalists, travel photographers, travel podcasters, travel bloggers, travel influencers, travel YouTubers, and other traveling creatives.

Below are a few of the top travel writing and blogging conferences.

Book Passage Travel Writers and Photographers Conference

For the past 28 years, award-winning travel writers have descended upon the San Francisco Bay Area to attend the Book Passage Travel Writers and Photographers Conference , where they teach workshops and hold roundtable conversations about the craft and business of travel writing. Don George, the conference’s co-founder, presides over the value-packed conference.

TravelCon is back after a brief hiatus. During the 2022 keynote address, TravelCon founder “Nomadic Matt” lamented that 2022 would be the conference’s final year. In late 2023, FinCon (a leading financial content creators’ community and conference) acquired TravelCon from Nomadic Matt. The conference is marketed to the “content creator” segment (“travel influencers, bloggers, YouTubers, podcasters, authors, and creators” per the website) who want to level-up their game.

Travel Bloggers Exchange (TBEX) Conference

The second youngest of the conferences listed here yet billed as “the largest conference and networking event for travel bloggers, online travel journalists, new media content creators, travel brands and industry professionals,” the Travel Blogger Exchange holds yearly conventions in North America and in Europe. Breakout sessions cover topics like content creation, business matters, and social media.

North American Travel Journalist Association (NATJA) Conference

For the past 18 years, the North American Travel Journalist Association Conference has provided professional development workshops and opportunities for attendees, focusing on developing new content and up-to-date tricks for social media marketing. Founded in 1991, NATJA is among the top professional travel writing organizations in North America.

Society of American Travel Writing (SATW) Convention

The Society for American Travel Writers’ Annual Convention packs the house full of informative breakout sessions about the craft and business of travel writing. One of the oldest and largest associations in North America, SATW has been kicking since 1955 with its 1,000 plus members.

Travel & Words

Travel & Words is a regional travel and lifestyle writers’ conference held in the Northwest United States every year. It is on the smaller side, but it offers media trips for select participants like the other conferences above. If you live in the Northeast, don’t look this one over.

Should we add other travel writing conferences to this list? Get in touch with us!

Cool and Quirky Ideas for Conference Themes You’ll Want to Steal

Searching for some creative conference theme ideas for your team meeting or business conference? Read this article that helps you with some conference themes.

Conference Theme Ideas

Conferences and conventions are a great time to get together. Not only they are an opportunity to discuss various important issues relating to your work, they are also indirectly a platform for employee interaction and rejuvenation. While serious conferences can make any event monotonous, some fun-filled and light humor conference theme ideas can make a world of difference in making the event memorable and more effective. So instead of just inviting co-workers and employees and completing formalities of a conference, why not unleash the creativity within and make your event a testimony to team spirit, grandeur and elegance. To know more about brilliant ideas for theme conferences, read on.

Business Conference Theme Ideas

Smiling business people showing a recycle sign

Elegance lies in simplicity. And since “green living” is now a necessary mantra for living, why not make it your conference theme? While you do your bit for the environment and create awareness about being eco-friendly, you will have an interesting theme. There is no dearth of ideas for organizing an event based on ecology themes. Simple aspects of living like opting for natural and green food, local and environmental friendly gifts, and natural decorations can make your event classic. The menu can include organic and green foods. Plan out your conference at a park and include green games. Reflect the green theme in every aspect of your conference. For instance, as parting gifts, you can give small plants to every attendee of the program.

Businessman Dressed As Hockey Player

Plan out one day from your working schedule and arrange for a sports meet! Book a local ground and organize game activities within your company. Give an interesting theme like “Champs Day Out” for the day. The logo can be written on the front side of the T-shirt with the company’s logo on the back side of the T-shirt.

Divide employees into various teams and play team building games. An all day activity that includes various sports activities can be concluded with a conference in the evening and a small party with the head of the team/CEO addressing the employees and awarding the winners of various activities for the sport’s day. Since sports is an integral part of life, this idea will surely be welcomed by employees.

Good versus Evil

For conferences and corporate events, there are a wide range of activities to choose from like award banquets, a gala casino night, a seminar or conference that requires registration tables for participants and various other events. You may include the public in the event or may restrict it to your employees. The themes can be taken from history and every aspect of the show can be focus on the theme idea. Gold Rush California, Hemingway’s Spain or Africa can be various themes. Be creative and at the same time, ensure that you are able to create an elegant atmosphere.

Actor Dressed as a Native American Chief

Some of the most genuine people on this planet are those who live in proximity with nature. The tribal people living in different parts of the world are perfect examples of communities thriving on a sustainable lifestyle since ages.

As corporates and business houses, the need today is to go beyond the 4 P’s of marketing and add another one to it, our Planet! It is essential to act and work for environment because the planet is already facing several climatic change issues. Ask the members to wear accessories related to tribal clothing.

Even if they’re unable to wear leaves around their body, they must try to resemble like people from rural villages or tribe. Ask your colleagues to act, think and discuss sustainability keeping in mind the issues that local people like tribal communities face in the wake of development projects in their forests.

Heros of Business

Perhaps this is the easiest and yet the most hilarious conference theme idea. Just imitate your favorite super heroes not only by wearing appropriate super hero clothes, but also following their sharp insights and strategic planning in crisis. Certainly, this theme can be funny for everyone yet passing on strong and positive messages regarding employ engagement and risk management.

When it comes to theme ideas, your imagination is possibly the last limit. While there is no dearth of ideas, you have to ensure that whatever theme you choose, it must reflect your firm’s values and mission statement. Public conferences generally require a lot of preparation from your side as they attract large number of audiences. Allocating a certain budget for your theme ideas and then working on it, with planning and professionalism, is surely a great way to make the event a grand success.

Keeping the guests, attendees and employees comfortable is surely challenging but with creative ideas, it’s always possible. Corporate event planners and other professionals can also be hired by your firm to make the conferences and social events an unforgettable experience, both for the customers and the employees.
