Best travel jackets with hidden pockets for men, men's scottevest travel jacket essential 2.0.

SCOTTeVEST Essential 2.0 Jacket for Men - 24 Hidden Pockets & Detachable Sleeves - Coat for Travel & More (Sand, X-Large Tall)

While it’s great to have everything within reach, the SCOTTeVEST Travel Jacket pays special attention to weight management . That way, even if you have all  25 inner and outer pockets full , you won’t feel lopsided or bulky. Often an issue with this kind of jacket.

The  cotton blend material  keeps this jacket light and airy and the  Teflon treatment makes it water and stain-resistant . It also has  detachable sleeves  for a hotter climate, but it doesn’t have a hood . That means you better reserve one of those pockets for a small umbrella in case it rains.

The organization is good with this jacket despite the many compartments. Outside, there are two large chest pockets with hidden zippers at the top. Inside, a padded pocket can hold an iPad or tablet and a special pocket is fitted with RFID blockers to secure against credit card and data theft.

Two large hand-warmer pockets can also hold a water bottle and extendable/detachable key-holder in the right pocket and ZIP-PIP (zippered pocket-in-pocket) to keep items segregated in the left pocket. There are two interior clear touch pockets so you can use touchscreen devices without taking them out, and several smaller pockets for sunglasses, IDs, pens, and travel documents.

  • Excellent weight management and organization
  • Many pockets specific to different important items
  • Water and stain-resistant

SCOTTeVEST Men's Pack Windbreaker Jacket with 19 Pockets

SCOTTeVEST Pack Windbreaker Jacket for Men - 19 Hidden Pockets - Lightweight Water Repellent Coat for Travel & More

The SCOTTeVest Windbreaker Travel Jacket is one of the most affordable options from SOTTeVEST. Which might explain why it’s so popular. And you know you are getting a great travel jacket. After all, they are the brand for travel jackets with pockets!

This model comes with 19 pockets, 14 interiors, and 5 exteriors. Of course, that means you have a spot for just about anything. From your pen and sunglasses to your tablet and phone. I won’t go into detail on all 19, you can read it on their website.

It’s made from 100% Polyester and is also quite a bit lighter than some of the others SCOTTeVest offer. It is 1.2 lbs, so easy to carry around with you in case of a change of weather. It also packs into its own pocket, so it’s easy to stash in a backpack – just in case!

  • Lightweight and durable
  • 19 pockets for everything you carry
  • Reasonable price for such a jacket
  • Not great for really cold weather
  • No hood or removable sleeves
  • Material: 100% Polyester
  • Hidden Pockets: 19 - 14 interior, 5 exterior

VERSATYL Unisex Travel Jacket with 18 Pockets

VERSATYL Men's Lightweight Travel Jacket with 18 Pockets and 29 Features – Hooded, Water-Resistant, Hidden Pocket, Full Sleeves, Packable, Full-Zip Windbreaker Coat (Grey and Black, S)

The Versatyl Unisex Travel Jacket is another decent option when you don’t like the   SOTTeVEST options. It’s a little on the heavy side, but still waterproof so will keep your gear dry while you are out and about. There is also a warm hood, and some slide-out hand warmers, so if you are going somewhere cold, this might be a great option.

The biggest highlight of this jacket aside from its reasonably stylish look is the 18 pockets you get. Yes, that’s right – 18! From Napoleon-style chest pockets for things, you want close by to all sorts of internal pockets for more secure items. There are also some less handy pockets like those on the forearm, but you might still find a use for them.

They have also thought about the most essential items like your phone, wallet, passport, and documents. And, there is a handy loop for hanging your wired headphones on the upper inside of the jacket, for when you aren’t listening to your tunes on the go.

Just one major thing to be aware of when purchasing this softshell jacket – it runs small, so grab one size up otherwise you might be busting out of it! Although the zippers are quality YKK affairs, you don’t want to break them.

  • Pull-out warmer sleeves
  • Ideal for different climates
  • Sleeves are longer than usual sizes and fits
  • Hidden Pockets: 18

AyeGear V26 Vest with 26 Pockets

Not everyone likes wearing jackets, especially when it is warm enough out. That is why a secure vest with hidden pockets is also worth considering. It can be carried around and used, or not, depending on the weather conditions too.

This vest from AyeGear has been well thought out in more ways than you can imagine. It has pockets enough for everything you are carrying. Including specific ones for your phone and tablet, along with clear plastic so that you can not only read them but also interact with them! How handy is that?

  • Lots of options for all sorts of things
  • Bulky when fully stored

SCOTTeVEST Women's Chloe Hoodie Jacket

SCOTTeVEST Chloe Glow Hoodie for Women - 18 Hidden Pockets - Lightweight Zip Up Sweatshirt for Travel & More

For winter travelers , the SCOTTeVEST Women’s Chloe Hoodie Jacket will keep you  warm and cozy with a heavyweight fleece . It’s made with  100% polyester and is a lightweight way to keep warm while you are traveling .

It has a decent number of pockets  14 to be exact. This means there is plenty of space for all your gadgets, gizmos, and personal items. There are also a couple of external hand-warming pockets and one specifically for change.

The addition of a hood on this particular travel jacket means that it adds that extra warmth when things get cold or windy. This is always a bonus when you are out for the day in a foreign city and don’t want to go back to grab another sweater.

And, unlike a lot of the other jackets from SCOTTeVest, this one is super affordable at just under $100.

  • Warm layer for on the go
  • Hood gives extra warm
  • Enough pockets for all your everyday travel items
  • Might need an additional rain jacket with you
  • Pockets: 14

SCOTTeVEST Women's Trench Coat

The SCOTTeVEST Women’s Trench Coat is a great addition to any wardrobe. The  classic style  is great for any travel but also  works for daily wear whether casual or business .

With the longer garment than a jacket, the coat’s  18 pockets  are larger, easier to access, and can hold a lot more items equivalent to a travel purse. While it’s still not the best replacement for a bag altogether, it significantly lessens the number of items you have in your purse or carry-on.

As with all SCOTTeVEST garments, the  Weight Management System  keeps the coat from being too heavy or bulky. Add to that the  sleek lines and the belt  and you will have a slimming shape even if your pockets are full.

The coat is  water and stain-resistant , so you can walk through a downpour and keep yourself and your gadgets dry. The length of the coat also offers more protection than a jacket.

Despite its construction and material, it’s still  machine washable  making it easy to maintain and store. Unfortunately, it  doesn’t come with a hood .

Also, knowing where you put your phone can be a challenge at first because  some pockets are too deep  and will be more troublesome than convenient.

  • Weather-resistant
  • Classic style and design
  • Larger pockets
  • Some pockets are too deep
  • Material: DWR Nano poly fabric
  • Pockets: 18

Baubax Travel Jacket

Baubax Travel Jacket - Bomber - Female - Black - Small

The Baubax Travel Jacket is a startup hit , crowdsourcing a total of $9.2 million on Kickstarter and $11.5 million on Indiegogo On Demand.

It comes in  four styles : windbreaker, sweatshirt, blazer, and bomber jacket. Of all the versions, the Bomber jacket is the most well designed, does NOT look like a travel jacket, and will fit any urban or adventure setting.

It  is heavier than the other styles , but it’s  thicker and sturdier  and will hold up well even in cold climates.

It’s  built with lots of features and pockets  to keep you from having to dig into your bag the whole time. The jacket has nine utility pockets (six of which are hidden), an attached pen stylus, built-in gloves, and hand warmers, and a built-in neck pillow and eye mask. Yes, it has everything!

Sizes run small  for Bomber jackets, so make sure you get the measurements right. The material doesn’t stretch, but it’s machine washable.

  • Stylish design
  • Lots of built-in features
  • Inconsistent sizing

What to look for in a Travel Jacket or Vest

The main point of finding a jacket with hidden pockets is fitting everything you need inside. More pockets are not necessarily better. Some pockets are too small to be functional. Too many pockets will also just give you a more difficult time looking for what you need. Too few, on the other hand, leaves you with items that have no place in the jacket.

There are some pockets with plastic panels so you can see your phone without taking it out. They are super-handy, but come at a price, If you need to machine wash or toss the jacket in the dryer, this plastic panel can melt. So, be careful.

Also, make sure that closures are secure so your items don’t accidentally fall out of the jacket. This could just mean a zipper, or similar, but have a think about what you are going to put where, and how secure (in terms of falling out) it is going to be.

The jackets in this review are made from a variety of materials, so it pays to know what you want it to do, in terms of warmth or weather, before you buy it.

Not all travel jackets are water-resistant or waterproof. For example, there are travel jackets made like a sweater, so it will keep you warm but not dry. So, you will need another one to go over the top if it rains (or you can simply use an umbrella)

Waterproof jackets will keep you dry but can be too hot if you’ll be traveling to warmer climates or doing lots of exercises. It pays to be flexible in what you wear when traveling, so keep layering in mind.

A lot of jackets have hoods, which can be great against the wind or to sleep in a plane. But they are not a style everyone likes, as they are quite casual.

Others have built-in features like pillows and eye masks, but can be too bulky when not in use. So, don’t overdo it on the features unless you really need them. Find a design that fits your style of travel the best.

If you don’t need a hood, then hoodless jackets can still be a great option. And bells and whistles are often more hassles than they are worth. Stick with what you need, and focus on the security features that are going to protect your most important possessions.

The Best Travel Jacket For You

There are two reasons why you are looking for a travel jacket with lots of pockets: convenience and fewer baggage fees.

Travel jackets are similar in many ways, but the way these pockets are designed and secured makes all the difference. The best lookout when choosing your jacket is how easy it will be for you to get your stuff out of the pockets and, of course, how much protection you can get from the climate.

For men, the  Bombax Travel Jacket  has everything you need. The built-in pillow and eye mask are great for long-haul flights or emergency naps. It has enough pockets to store your things, and it’s weather-resistant to protect you from rain and cold weather. The manly and modern design also makes you look stylish wherever you go.

For women, the  SCOTTeVESTJacket   is light, functional, and versatile. It has detachable sleeves should you find things getting a little hot, and it has ingenious pockets to keep everything you need close to you. It’s also very easy to pack thanks to its lightweight material if you decide not to use it sometime during your trip.

baubax 20 travel jacket

Inflate a pillow, unfurl a blanket, blow up a foot rest, and flip down an eye mask –  the BauBax 2.0 Jacket packs loads of built-in extras to ease the hassles of travel.

baubax 20 travel jacket

If James Bond and Inspector Gadget made a coat, this would be it. Seattle-based BauBax blasted onto the apparel scene in 2015 when it raised more than $9 million on Kickstarter. Its travel-focused jackets housed 15 unheard-of extras aimed at simplifying travel.

baubax 2.0 zipper pen

Today, the brand launched BauBax 2.0 . Like its predecessor from three years ago, the new piece sports an inflatable neck pillow, built-in gloves, drink koozie pocket, and retractable pen. But the brand went a step (or 10) further to pack in more features and offer new styles.

BauBax 2.0 Travel Jacket

The bulk of BauBax 2.0’s features target the headaches of air travel. One pocket houses noise-cancelling ear plugs (included), and another has earphone ports for your tunes.

The trademark two-breath inflatable neck pillow deploys from the collar, just like the original. But feet receive a pillow of their own in the 2.0 with an inflatable footrest. And a stowaway travel blanket helps fend of the meat-cooler conditions most airplane cabins provide.

Like the old jacket, there’s an insulated drink koozie chest pocket, but now there’s also a foldable water bottle to go along with it. And while there are still dedicated pockets for both a phone and a tablet, designers added a wireless headphone pocket and wired straps to plug into Apple AirPods.

And since there’s no point stopping at 10 when you could just take it to 11, there’s also a whistle, bottle opener, and retractable keychain, each with their own stash compartment. In case you’re a more visual learner, here are the BauBax 2.0 features in full:

BauBax 2.0 Styles

As part of the “tons of constructive feedback” the brand said it received following its launch, BauBax 2.0 adds a new style to its lineup.

Gone is the 1.0 hooded “travel blazer.” Because let’e face it, you want to look either sharp or lazy – not both.

In its place is a more classically styled vest. This accompanies the carryover styles: zip-up hoodie, windbreaker, and bomber jacket.

The coup de grâce of the ensemble is a “Top Secret” RFID-blocking pocket. According to BauBax, this pocket sits in a different location for each style, and its whereabouts are “not public information.”

BauBax 2.0 will run between $175 and $225 depending on style. But you can nab one now at discount on its  Kickstarter .

We Tested All the 20-Plus Features of the Baubax Travel Jacket

Lori Zaino

One afternoon, on a mindless scroll through my Instagram feed, something caught my eye: an ad for a Baubax travel jacket with more than 20 special features designed specifically for travelers. Finally, a sponsored post that was relevant to me.

I clicked through to the Baubax website and was intrigued by the bomber jacket, which came in six sizes, three colors and claimed to have the following travel features:

  • A passport pocket
  • A drink pocket (wait, what?)
  • A bottle opener
  • Hand-warming pockets
  • Glasses pocket
  • Tablet pocket
  • Top secret pocket (also, huh?)
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Power bank pocket
  • Earbuds pocket
  • Zipper pen and stylus
  • Earbuds holder
  • Phone pocket
  • Travel water bottle
  • Inflatable footrest
  • Travel blanket
  • Built-in eye mask
  • Inflatable neck pillow (with in-hood storage)
  • Detachable gloves
  • Earplugs and case

Basically, the jacket promises to be the only travel accessory you need. So, of course, we needed to see if it fits the bill.

travel jacket with eyemask

The bomber jacket is black and the outer shell is 100% polyester. It arrived in a sleek bag, and the presentation was nice. It's not designed to be waterproof, but repels light splashes of water. The windbreaker option, though lighter, is the one to pick if you need something truly waterproof. You can machine wash the jacket, but you'll need to take out some of the travel accessories first. The hood is detachable, and the recommended temperature to wear the bomber jacket is between 45 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit. I think that claim is a bit of a stretch because I was cold wearing the jacket in 45- and 50-degree weather, and would definitely not recommend it for use in snow, rain or other severe weather.

travel jacket with eyemask

It's stylish, though basic, and coordinates with most outfits. Its travel features are well-disguised. It isn't super lightweight, but it can be rolled up small or packed for travel. When many of the accessories (think: travel blanket and footrest) are stored in the pockets, it gets considerably heavier.

The jacket feels comfortable and relatively warm. I bought a medium, and it fits true to size. However, it's not super soft or luxurious, like a leather, down or fur coat might be. In general, the jacket successfully balances practicality and stylishness.

In terms of durability and quality, the jacket seems well-made, especially the outer polyester shell — though some of the stitches on the inside pockets had a number of loose threads. The zippers all worked easily, as did the snaps connected to the hood.

My Experience

I ordered the women's bomber jacket (they also have products for men) online through a quick and painless process. I paid $159 for the jacket (I used a promo code I found online for $20 off the sale price of $179, originally $300). I was relieved to get the sale price, because $300 seemed too much to pay for a polyester travel jacket, especially one more suited for fall or spring and not really warm enough for winter.

My order was tracked by email from confirmation, to shipping and delivery within a few days of my order. I was pleased at the delivery speed, because the holidays were right around the corner and I expected things to take longer.

I tested the jacket on flights from Tucson International (TUS) to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), from Dallas to Cancún International (CUN) and from Cancún to Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport (MAD). I also wore the jacket around Madrid on warmer winter days to see how it fared as a "normal" jacket. After all, a travel jacket should be ideal for wear on planes, trains and automobiles, but it also needs to be comfortable and practical once you've arrived in your destination.

It's clear the jacket holds up well as its primary function (being a jacket). But what about those special travel features? Do they work? Are they handy? Would I actually use them?

travel jacket with eyemask

The Passport Pocket: This feature was helpful, especially if you're someone who misplaces your passport. However, I'm the kind of person who tosses my jacket carelessly somewhere and forgets about it, so I think I'll keep storing my passport in my purse or tote while traveling, just in case I get hot and take off my jacket.

The Drink Pocket: The odds that I would ever walk around with a drink in here are slim to none. It is a fun feature, but far more appropriate for a frat party than a plane.

travel jacket with eyemask

Bottle Opener: I distinctly recall a moment at the Madrid airport Sala VIP lounge when I couldn't find a bottle opener for my glass bottle. This really could have come in handy then. Although I don't really frequent campgrounds, it could be useful for camping or hiking.

travel jacket with eyemask

Safety Whistle: This is an amazing feature that's actually part of the bottle opener. Although I haven't had to use it and, hopefully never will, having a safety whistle makes me feel better when traveling, especially since I am a woman who frequently travels solo . It could also be used to scare animals away when hiking, or even when in a country where a lot of stray dogs roam around.

Hand-Warming Pockets: These are just regular pockets. I repeat: just REGULAR POCKETS. I would not consider this a special feature.

travel jacket with eyemask

The Glasses Pocket: I did use this for swapping out eyeglasses and sunglasses, a nice touch. You could fit a slim glasses case in there, too.

The Tablet Pocket: This came in handy on my flight when I was seated in the exit row and wanted to keep my Kindle with me, as I couldn't have any items stored in the seat in front of me. However, the jacket felt bulkier with a tablet or e-reader stored there.

travel jacket with eyemask

The Pen Pocket: The jacket already has a pen, so this seems a little unnecessary, but it could be useful if both you and your seatmate needed to fill out a customs form ... simultaneously.

Top Secret Pocket: I can't tell you where this is, it's top secret. Just kidding. It has an RFID blocking feature, so it may be a good spot to store any credit cards.

Microfiber Cloth: Having this is really useful if you wear glasses or sunglasses, especially if you store them without a case in the glasses pocket.

travel jacket with eyemask

Power Bank Pocket: Confession: I just used this pocket for tissues, and stored my power bank in one of the other pockets. Obviously, a lot of these pockets are interchangeable and you can put whatever you want in them. Now if only the jacket came with an actual attached power bank or charger — that would be a much more compelling feature.

Earbuds Pocket: You can store anything small in here, such as cough drops or lip balm. Or earbuds, as the instructions suggest.

travel jacket with eyemask

Zipper Pen and Stylus: The stylus works better on phones without tempered glass screen covers, and I haven't used the pen yet, but gone are the days I'll need to flag down a flight attendant who will give me a disapproving stare for not having my own pen to fill out the custom forms. Now, I'll always have one!

travel jacket with eyemask

Earbuds Holder: I liked the concept, but in reality, the rubbery straps got stuck in my hair and tangled in my sweatshirt. They'd be much easier to use with just wireless earbuds, but then, what's the point? The good news is, you can easily remove this rubber holder from the jacket, which I plan on doing.

The Phone Pocket: It's always useful to have a coat with pockets large enough to store your phone. Again, this came in handy when I sat in the exit row and couldn't have my bag in front of me during takeoff, but I don't plan on making it a habit to store my phone in my coat for the same reason I don't want to leave my passport in my jacket.

travel jacket with eyemask

Travel Water Bottle: I'm a huge fan of these fold-up water bottles, and I've used the bottle a number of times now, with and without the jacket.

travel jacket with eyemask

Inflatable Footrest: This is pretty awesome, though the coat does get bulky if you store this in the pocket. It inflates really quickly with just a few breaths. I'd like to inflate this and use it on my next long-haul economy flight. I also don't plan on frequently napping in parks, but it did the trick. (Please know, I did this for the sake of journalism.)

Travel Blanket: I'm disappointed with the blanket, honestly. It's extremely thin and poor quality. I was hoping it would be cashmere (a girl can dream) but tough luck! It's more useful as a thin travel scarf.

travel jacket with eyemask

Built-in Eye Mask: This feature is amazing. Not only does it do a fairly good job of blocking out light, but you'll never lose it because it's attached. Although you must have the hood up to use the eye mask , it's sort of a whole mood: "I hate everyone, leave me alone, I'm in my personal cocoon." Also, I don't care that I look like a huge nerd.

Inflatable Neck Pillow: While this isn't the greatest neck pillow I've ever used, it's not bad for an inflatable one, and you really can't feel it at all when it's stored in the hood. I often forget to pack an inflatable neck pillow when I travel, so I love the idea of always having one with me.

travel jacket with eyemask

Detachable Gloves: These are actually fingerless, thin hand warmers. While they definitely aren't appropriate for really cold weather (though neither is the jacket) it's a nice touch to have them on a chilly evening, and they can easily be stored in the jacket without making it bulky.

Earplugs and Case: These aren't your average drugstore earplugs (they look like little rubber evergreen trees, with three tiers on a stem). In my experience, they didn't block out the noise as well as the cheap foam ones did though. Still, you can use the little case to store them in the jacket, or swap them for ones that work better for you.

The Verdict: 8/10

travel jacket with eyemask

While this isn't the most luxurious or warmest jacket out there, many of the travel features are useful, and a few are pretty awesome, like the built-in eye mask, safety whistle, water bottle and the inflatable neck pillow stored in the hood. Plus, the jacket's multiple pockets are great for traveling. However, if you can't manage to find a promo code and the jacket is not on sale, I think $300 is simply too much to pay for this jacket.

Best For: Anyone traveling in economy or on a low-cost carrier (such as Spirit or Ryanair) who may need a little extra comfort and may not have as many options when it comes to checking bags.

Don't Use: I don't recommend this jacket for anyone who travels frequently to chilly destinations and needs a heavier coat. I'm a little sad I have to wait until spring to start using it because it's just too cold at the moment. If you can manage to get the jacket on sale, it would be a great addition to your travel wardrobe for both men and women.

HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR TRAVEL JACKETS WITH INSIDE POCKETS OR HIDDEN POCKETS

In everything we own, if we want them to last long. Same goes for our travel jackets. When you are not travelling or when it’s not in use it is very important that we clean, dry, and store our jackets properly. Not only for its quality to be kept but also to make sure it doesn’t have any funny smell and have it ready for the next trip or season.

Here are some ways on how to take care of your jacket:

Wash properly and rinsing

Before throwing the jack inside the washer, check all the pockets and empty them . Some people leave tissue inside which ruins the fabric because paper gets mashed and then it sticks everywhere. Remember to remove all the sharp objects, these can make holes in your jacket and break your washer.

Once it’s empty, place in the machine (mix with other clothes in the same colour but do not overload), and set the temperature to 30°C (86°F) . Make sure to read the manual for your washer to guide you properly on the temperature. Another thing to consider is to read the washing manual for your jacket , check if there is a specific temperature or settings to use.

Use normal detergent and two tennis balls to keep its volumes, avoid tangling and help ventilate. You should rinse it twice.

When drying, use the two tennis ball again and set the machine on syntheti c, these help to fluff up the feathers. Perhaps dry it 2-3 times to makes sure it is fully dry. If you do not have a dryer, you can hang the jacket on the clothesline or rack. Make sure to turn, pat, and shake it once in a while to avoid the feathers sticking together. You should never dry your jacket on a radiator .

When your jacket is completely dry, place it on a hanger , use the best size that covers the entire should length on both sides , and hang it inside your closet. Once in a while, air out the closet so the wood smell won’t stick on your jacket.

I hope you found this article useful and I helped you fiund the best travel jacket with hidden pockets for yourself and how to clean it properly. If you have any questions, let me know in the comment section below.

A 15-feature “travel jacket” with eyemask and neck pillow is Kickstarter’s most-funded piece of clothing ever

So many features.

Air travel is miserable. Aside from all the hassles of getting on the plane, once you’re in your cramped little seat it becomes difficult to do anything but sit upright, elbows tucked, and wait for the journey to be over.

In testament to what a nightmare it is, a Kickstarter campaign for a “travel jacket”  designed to make flying more comfortable has become the crowd-funding site’s most successful clothing campaign ever.

The jacket has gotten a good deal of press over the past several weeks, and as of Sep. 2, it has gained more than 40,000 backers pledging in excess of $8 million. The jacket’s creator, Chicago-based company BauBax, only originally set out to gather $20,000. The pledges are ticking up every minute.

The jacket’s retail price starts at $160 (plus taxes/shipping). It comes in four different styles—sweatshirt, windbreaker, bomber, and blazer—and boasts 15 features targeting the varied torments of air travel, though they’re useful for any kind of travel really. Among them are earphone holders, an iPad pocket, a drink pocket that fits a can of soda, gloves that extend from the sleeves, a telescoping pen built into the front zipper that doubles as a stylus, a passport pocket, and a hood that includes an inflatable neck pillow and sleep mask.

The funding campaign’s success is an amazing feat for a jacket that is definitely more about utility than aesthetics, but it makes sense when you consider the constraints of flying.

Airline seats, for instance, are now 1.5 inches narrower than they used to be, and airlines are experimenting with hellish new methods of compressing passengers into planes, such as somehow squeezing in more seats per row , or even staggering the way seats face so that you could end up staring at the person next to you for your entire flight.

It’s no wonder British Airways offers passengers mindfulness exercises to de-stress. A jacket—or any innovative product—that allows economy fliers to achieve some sort of comfort and access to their essentials would be a hit.

The first batch of Kickstarter backers will get their jackets this month. The rest of the orders will start shipping in November, just in time for the busy holiday travel season.

The Neckpacker 2.0 travel jacket has its own integrated neck pillow, eye-mask and iPad-sleeve

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/neckpacker/hybrid-jacket-by-neckpacker-20

The All Black Hybrid Jacket Neckpacker 2.0 (aka Neckpacker 2.0) may look like a jacket to the untrained eye, but I’d like you to think of it as a piece of luggage that you can wear… and even sleep in. Now while that description might not make sense at first, I promise to take you through what may just be the most revolutionary piece of travel apparel I’ve ever seen. With the Neckpacker 2.0, you can literally travel empty-handed, ditching your carry-on bag, complete with your neck-pillow, eye-mask, and all your other travel accouterments… because this jacket literally has 8 pockets (including one that’s big enough to fit a tablet), and comes fitted with its very own eye-mask and inflatable neck-pillow. Once you’ve worn the Neckpacker 2.0, you’re ready to travel with everything you need right on you, from your passport, kindle, and wallet, to your peace of mind, thanks to the Neckpacker’s ability to let you comfortably lull off to sleep on those long plane or bus journeys.

The Neckpacker 2.0 was designed to be the biggest weapon in a traveler’s arsenal. Crafted as a highly functional piece of classic outerwear, the Neckpacker looks like a classy travel jacket, but is so much more. 8 pockets on the outside and the inside let you carry individual items that you’d normally stash in a backpack, making the Neckpacker literally a backpack that you wear as clothing. An inner pocket lets you store a tablet like an iPad or Kindle, keeping it concealed, while outer pockets are perfect for your wallet, phone, boarding pass, headphones, keys, or even a sandwich if you like. The jacket’s designed to be breathable yet waterproof and windproof, allowing you to stay cool in the heat and warm in cold, windy climates, and dry throughout. The hoodie is extra large, not just completely shielding your face from the rain, but also from the sun. In fact, it even goes as far as becoming an eye-mask for you as you travel, giving you complete darkness as you catch a few winks while traveling. Speaking of catching a few winks, the Neckpacker 2.0’s pièce de résistance is its neck pillow, a flat, inflatable pillow that you can zip to attach or detach on the inside of the hoodie.

The Neckpacker 2.0’s neck pillow really deserves its own paragraph. Designed to be there when you need it, and be either flat-packed or detached when you don’t, the inflatable pillow just gives you the extra mile of comfort as you rack in those miles. An innovative hand-pump allows you to inflate or deflate the neck-pillow, so you don’t really have to blow into it like a fool, while the pillow’s design is optimized to expand around the contours of your neck, not just giving you a cushion to rest your head on, but also adjusting to fit your ergonomic requirements, so you get sound sleep without the sore neck afterwards. Moreover, the Neckpacker’s fabric is designed to be soft, and also help regulate your body temperature, keeping you cool and collected as you sleep against the neck pillow, with the eye-mask drawn over your eyes, and all your belongings right at arms length. Told you, the Neckpacker 2.0 is a piece of luggage that you can wear… and even sleep in. Makes sense now, doesn’t it?

The All Black Hybrid Jacket Neckpacker 2.0 isn’t just a product I wish I had. It’s a product I wish every single one of my co-travelers had too. Imagine a world where your co-passengers are less talkative, more relaxed, not constantly leaning on your shoulder as they try to catch a few winks, and mist importantly, not getting up all the time to pull their bag out of the overhead locker because their book or iPad is inside it. Imagine a world where traveling was actually peaceful. I’d love to live in that world.

5 Travel Kits that Will Actually Help You Sleep on a Plane

By Mara Balagtas and Andrea Whittle

Image may contain Text and Label

Blessed be the person who can fall asleep sitting upright while wrapped in a flimsy layer of polyester blanket that only covers approximately 1/3rd of the length of their legs. The rest of us generally need a little more help, usually in the form of prescription pharmaceuticals, 1-2 miniature bottles of cheap chardonnay, or a swath of thick cashmere and something lavender scented. For the first two, you're on your own, but we've rounded up some of the coziest combinations of eye masks, travel blankets, and all-natural sprays, teas and potions that make falling asleep on an airplane a little easier (and way more pleasant).

Sleeping Beauty

Tuck a few nighttime beauty essentials into this zip-up travel kit, which includes a crazy soft merino wool blanket and eye mask. Even if you don't manage to actually fall asleep, this rich night treatment will at least make it look like you did.

Madewell x Parachute travel kit ($130, madewell.com ); Herbivore Botanicals Moon Fruit Superfruit Night Treatment ($58, dermstore.com ).

100% Softness

A few spritzes of Deep Sleep's herbal spray will make the tiny pillow they give you feel practically spa-like (we like to bring our own mini pillowcases to makes things even comfier). And for the coziest possible airplane outfit, just throw your favorite sweater over Equipment's cashmere and cotton travel set, which comes with a matching eye mask.

Equipment Cosette Travel Set ($159, ochardmile.com ); This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray ($29, dermstore.com ).

First Class (Almost)

This pale pink all-cashmere set comes with its own pillow and a thick pair of socks. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to this mini portable diffuser (you can just perch it on your tray table, no plug-in required) and it's almost like you're in first class. Almost.

Easy Does It

We love this fuzzy mask-and-blanket set. It's machine washable, too, so you can throw it in the laundry with everything else as soon as you unpack. If an herbal tea helps you calm down better than a couple of drinks, bringing your own (this one is packed with soothing lemon balm and mango flower) is key. Just bring a travel thermos and ask the flight attendants for some hot water when they come around with the drink cart.

There is maybe nothing more over-the-top than an airplane pillow that costs about as much as a business class seat. But when you combine the softest possible cashmere neck support with an all-natural, sleep-inducing Melatonin/Vitamin B6/Calcium supplement, you're guaranteed at least a couple of hours of snoozing.

The 11 Best Sleep Masks & Eye Masks for Travel [2023]

Do I Need a Sleep Mask?

A sleep mask is a perfect accessory for travelers who appreciate a little peace and quiet, wherever they may be.

Inexpensive, easy to carry with you, and useful in a wide range of different circumstances, an eye or sleep mask can help shut the world out while you catch some z’s. Not just for sleeping, this travel accessory can help reduce stress levels or even ease away a headache.

Eye masks don’t just help you to nod off to sleep — they also improve the quality of your sleep. Here are some great reasons to keep your eye mask with you at all times:

  • Fall Asleep Quickly — Scientists believe that complete darkness boosts your body’s melatonin level, which helps you to doze off faster.
  • Drop Off Anywhere — Long car rides, airplanes, trains, buses, and even in a city center hotel room — you can beat fatigue by falling asleep virtually anywhere.
  • Beat the Jet Lag —  Combat jet lag by being able to sleep in any time zone. Your sleep mask can help you to sleep at the right times to beat the dreaded jet lag.

Bottom Line: When you’re on the move, being able to rest your mind and your body can make your journey more enjoyable and help you feel fresher when you get there. A sleep mask will help you greatly in this endeavor.

Eye Mask

Shape and Fit

Eye masks are designed to contour perfectly to your face. When you’re looking for the right eye mask for you, seek out ones with molded eye pockets to keep the fabric from sitting directly on your eyelids, which can be uncomfortable.

Eye mask shape and fit

You should also ensure that the mask itself is wide and long enough to cover your eyes completely. If the light still creeps in on the side, it will hit your peripheral vision and make it harder to go to sleep.

Other design touches, like contoured shaping around the bridge of the nose and Velcro straps that allow you to wear the mask without messing up your hair, all make a difference to how much you fall in love with your newest travel accessory.

Fabric and Material

Eye mask material

Your eye mask needs to be thick enough to keep the light out, yet soft and light enough to not put any pressure on your eyelids.

A mask that offers a bit of padding on the sides and around the edges will provide superior comfort. Because your eye mask is likely to be heavily used on your travels, it would also be advantageous to grab one in a material that can stand up to regular washing.

Bottom Line: Silk, cotton, polyester, and even satin are all popular choices for sleep masks, but be sure to check the quality of the seams and washing instructions before you buy.

If a simple sleep mask doesn’t satisfy your needs, try something a little bit extra. Sleep masks can be found with plenty of additional features to help you sleep soundly, wherever you may be. Some come complete with matching earplugs, for complete sensory deprivation, while others offer collagen eye patches to help you awaken looking refreshed and free from puffy eyes and wrinkles.

Consider buying a travel neck pillow to complete your sleep-well-anywhere package.

Hot Tip: If you’re looking to wear your mask for stress or pain relief, you can purchase masks with integrated lavender to keep you calm or cooling patches to help relieve aching heads. You can also find them in designer fabrics, with matching carry cases or even sleepwear, if the look is what you’re all about.

The 11 Best Sleep Masks for Travel

  • Alaska Bear Natural Silk Sleep Mask

Made from top-quality, 19-millimeter, natural mulberry silk on one side and soft cotton on the other, this little beauty will see you off to the land of nod in no time at all. Cool and breathable, the silky smooth fabric blacks out the light while gently pressing your eyelids close to avoid dry eyes in the morning.

The contoured nose cut-out is comfortable on your face, while still blocking out light to ensure a restful night’s sleep.

Combined with an adjustable head strap that’s designed for comfort no matter the sleeping position, this is an affordable and effective little eye mask.

What We Like

  • Comes in a variety of colors and designs

What We Don’t Like

  • The strap slips around a bit
  • Sleep Master Sleep Mask

Designed by someone who suffered from their own case of insomnia, the Sleep Master eliminates both light and sound to help you get some sleep on the move. Made from lightweight, washable satin fabric, this mask is extra wide to block out the light, while the ear area is also padded to help muffle unwanted noise .

If you want total silence, insert the ear muffs provided with the mask, and let the wrap-around design keep them firmly in place while you sleep. Incredibly soft and comfortable, this mask can be adjusted to fit you perfectly using the Velcro tabs, and the durable material can stand up to regular washing.

This is a neat idea for those who want relief from both the sights and sounds of traveling.

  • Blocks light and muffles sound
  • The Velcro strap is quite thick to lie on
  • LitBear Sleep Eye Mask

The adjustable strap has been designed with comfort in mind and is made to fit head circumferences of 20.5 to 26.5 inches. • It stays securely in place and is comfortable sleeping on your side
  • The headband stretches out over time
  • Sound Oasis Deluxe Glo to Sleep Natural Sleep Eye Mask

These quirky glasses promise to deliver a unique way to help ease your stress and help you sleep. The Glo to Sleep ideology works on the basis that you just have to raise your eyes and gaze on a focal point of blue lights to instantly achieve a deeply relaxed state that leads to sleep.

By slowing the frequency of the brain’s electrical activity, you can obtain a similar result to those achieved by meditation or hypnosis. An interesting concept, indeed!

With 3 auto-dim options, you can ramp down in 10, 20, or 30 minutes. As your body relaxes, you’ll gently fall into a deep, refreshing sleep, wherever you are. While the jury may still be out on the effectiveness of the blue light theory, this is a high-quality, easy-to-wear sleep mask that seems to make a difference.

  • Great for getting to sleep or just relaxing
  • Material is quite stiff

Bucky 40 Blinks Comfortable, Contoured, No Pressure Eye Mask

The 40 Blinks eye mask offers the perfect solution for anyone wanting to block out light while they travel. This ultra-lightweight, contoured eye mask is big enough to cover your eyes and peripheral vision. The lightweight design  allows you to blink freely into the contoured eye holes.

Made from latex-free molded foam, it won’t smudge your make-up or put unwanted pressure on your head while you sleep. An adjustable Velcro strap that connects in the back will keep the mask in place while you nap and the 100% polyurethane foam fabric can be washed in cold water to keep it clean and fresh for every journey.

  • No eye pressure with molded eye pockets
  • Fabric layers can come apart after washing

Heated USB Eye Mask

This sleep mask uses cutting-edge technology to help you nod off. Using a thermally-conductive material, the mask heats up quickly and can promote blood circulation to help with dry eyes and fatigue . It can also provide beauty and skincare therapy to smooth your wrinkles and eliminate dark circles while you sleep.

If you’re worried about having the heat so close to your eyes, the safe design comes with 2 heat modes and a contoured design that allows the mask to adapt to the shape of your face. The mask can be powered using any USB port and has an automatic shut-off. A unique solution to a timeless problem, this mask will help you sleep using infrared technology that’s similar to the wavelength of the body.

  • The eye cover is removable and washable
  • Battery only lasts 1 to 2 uses
  • 100% Handmade Cotton Sleep Mask Blackout

Made from high-quality, all-natural cotton, this super-wide sleep mask feels soft on your skin while keeping out unwanted light and sound to help you sleep. The “nose wing” design helps to effectively block light even from the nose area , meaning you can drift off in complete darkness.

It is so lightweight, you’ll barely notice it on your skin. It can be washed and rinsed on the go and can be folded to fit into its very own travel bag. This sleep mask can be adjusted in length to perfectly fit the size of your head without tangling your hair or feeling tight, and the natural material is breathable and won’t cause you to sweat.

  • Lightweight and soft
  • The Velcro strap can loosen over time

Jersey Slumber 100% Silk Sleep Mask

What’s more, this super-smart sleep set also comes with its very own set of Moldex earplugs to keep unwanted noise at bay while you snooze.

The contoured design allows for complete eye movement even underneath your mask, meaning your makeup won’t smudge and you won’t feel restricted, while the adjustable straps will fit all head sizes. The 14 best flight accessories for sleeping on a plane (even in economy!)

If you want to get some shut eye on your next flight then here are the best flight accessories for sleeping on a plane.

To sleep on a plane you need to be:

  • Comfortable
  • Warm (but not hot)
  • Able to block out everything around you

Thankfully there are plenty of flight accessories to help you sleep.

Here we go, the best products for sleeping on a plane.

Let’s start with the comfort…

U-shaped memory foam flight pillow.

I’ve tried so many flight pillows, from weird and wonderful shapes to different fillings, textures and materials. All of them.

I’ve found the best pillow for a flight is a U-shaped memory foam pillow . They usually sell these in the airport but they’re much cheaper to buy online.

Everlasting Comfort Memory Foam Travel Pillow - Airplane Neck Rest & Plane Accessories (Black)

  • No Longer Struggle with Uncomfortable Airline Seats: Made with premium memory foam, our neck pillow adapts to your shoulders and neck to cradle and support your upper body during long flights
  • Stays Fresh in Between Flights: Making sure your plane pillow is always ready for travel is easy. Simply remove the cover and toss in the wash on the gentle cycle. Tumble dry with no heat
  • Compact and Easy to Take With You: Lightweight, our memory foam neck pillow is the perfect travel partner. Convenient travel bag is easy to carry in your hand, on luggage, or in car trunk

Stay warm and cosy during your flight

The temperature on most flights is between 22-24 degrees Celsius, but it can often feel much chillier when you’re sat still for hours on end.

I recommend wearing:

  • A cosy sweatshirt
  • An oversized blanket scarf
  • Or a travel blanket that packs into a small pouch
  • Warm socks (if you won’t already be wearing some)

EverSnug Travel Blanket and Pillow - Premium Soft 2 in 1 Airplane Blanket with Soft Bag Pillowcase,...

  • THE PERFECT TRAVEL COMPANION: Forget thin airline blankets that never keep you warm, the EverSnug Travel Blanket is a lightweight and extra comfy all-season blanket that is the perfect travel...
  • PREMIUM MICRO PLUSH FABRIC: Our carefully crafted Microplush Blanket is ultra soft and lush, you wont want ever take it off! Made with our exclusive premium microfleece yarns, creating a velvety and...
  • USE IT AS A PILLOW OR A BLANKET: Not only does the travel blanket keep you warm when needed, the Microplush carrying case can also act as the perfect place to rest your head.

Noise cancelling headphone too block out everything around you

To block out the noises and lights around you you’re going to need a good pair or noise cancelling headphones and an eye mask.

When it comes to noise cancelling headphones, you have two options:

  • Over ear headphones

Personally, I prefer ear buds because they’re small and easy to travel with. I know they can get a little uncomfortable after hours of use and it can be difficult to lean on your ear if you have an earbud in. But I’ll still take earbuds due to the convenience of them being small.

Over ear headphones are bulkier but generally comfier on your ears, although they’re also awkward if you want to lean on one side of your head while you sleep.

I have the JBL Live Pro+ TWS earbuds and I love them.

I also have the Beats Studio 3 wireless over ear headphones and these are great.

  • Live Pro+ TWS wireless headphones are small but powerful, with 11 mm dynamic drivers for incredible JBL Signature Sound all day, every day and are compatible with Hey Google, Alexa, iOS and Android

  • Live Pro+ TWS wireless earbuds feature 3-mics technology with a feedback mic for wind suppression and environmental noise reduction and dual beamforming mics to capture your voice with crystal clarity

Beats Studio3 Wireless Noise Cancelling Over-Ear Headphones - Apple W1 Headphone Chip, Class 1...

  • High-performance wireless noise cancelling headphones
  • Compatible with iOS and Android devices.
  • Pure adaptive noise canceling (pure ANC) actively blocks external noise

What’s the best eye mask to sleep on a plane?

You’ll also want an eye mask but don’t get any old eye mask. The best masks for planes are ones with slightly raised 3D pockets for your eyes . The 3D shape ensures things stay dark without the mask feeling tight, restrictive or weird when you try to blink.

onaEz Sleep Mask for Women & Men, 3D Comfort Ultra Soft Premium Eye Mask for Sleeping, Block Out...

  • Blocking Light: Are you bothered by light when you sleep, this eye mask by onaEz can help you solve this problem, blocking light from entering in all directions and helping you get a high quality...
  • 3D Sleep Eye Mask for sleeping: The 3D eye socket design can avoid pressure on your eyes. In addition, the deep eye socket design won't smudge your make-up and rub your eyelashes
  • Comfortable to Wear: The sleep mask filled with soft and breathable memory foam, it is soft to touch and comfortable to wear without without stressing your face

The 6 things you need to help you sleep on a plane (even in economy!)

Realistically, there are just 6 things you need to help you sleep on a plane…

  • U-shaped memory foam pillow
  • Cosy sweatshirt
  • Travel blanket
  • Noise cancelling headphones
  • 3D eye mask

But are there any other gadgets, gizmos or accessories that might help you sleep on a plane?

The best products for sleeping on a plane are…

A portable footrest

There are two types of portable footrests you can get for planes.

One is a hammock footrest which loops onto the arms of your food tray. I think some airlines could moan about this (Ryanair, I’m talking to you) but the reviews are good and it would be easy to hide (especially if you have a window seat) as it sits under your tray.

The other is an inflatable footrest . You can half fill this to whatever height you like, or fully inflate it so it’s as high as your plane seat and can make a little bed for babies and toddlers.

White noise apps

If the silence of your noise cancelling headphones isn’t working for you, but the noise of the plane is…well too noisy then try white noise apps.

Personally, I find them really irritating and can’t listen to them! But my husband loves them.

Download a couple of free ones to find the ones you like.

Lavender scented products

If certain scents help you relax then it might be worth getting something like a lavender pillow mist, essential oils, balms or moisturiser.

Personally, I wouldn’t say any of these products help me sleep but they are lovely and help me to relax. They make nice gifts for frequent travellers too!

Phone or tablet holder

If you’re the kind of person who likes to fall asleep while watching a film or TV show then get yourself a phone or tablet holder so you can hang your device from the seat in front. You’ll then be hands free to fall asleep in peace.

It’s worth noting that most sleep experts agree that the light from phones and tablets actually makes it harder to sleep so it’s best to avoid this if possible.

My top technique for sleeping on a plane – Fake it ‘till you make it!

If you looked at me on a plane you’d probably think I was a Pro Plane Sleeper! But the truth is that I’m usually faking it.

I’ll be sat there with my eye mask on, my noise cancelling headphones drowning out the noise, my blanket wrapped tightly around me and my neck pillow helping me sit comfortably. But I’m probably not asleep. Not yet anyway!

My trick is simply to pretend I’m asleep and – as if by magic – I’ll be there soon enough.

Is there any benefit to resting without sleeping?

One thing that keeps me in this restful state while I pretend to be asleep is the knowledge that resting is also beneficial.

While resting is no substitute for sleeping, calmly relaxing helps to conserve energy so you will feel more refreshed when you come out of the quiet wakeful state.

I like to remind myself of this when I start getting stressed that I’m not falling asleep.

We’ve all been there. You’re anxiously wriggling in your seat, fretfully trying to fall asleep while feeling stressed that you’re not asleep and counting down the hours before your red-eye flight arrives back into London and you need to go straight to work. You REALLY need to get some sleep! But the harder you try, the more sleep pervades you.

Flight accessories for when you wake up

When you wake up after sleeping on a plane you’re going to feel gross.

The three things you really need will be water, caffeine and to brush your teeth ASAP. Brushing your teeth instantly freshens you up and just makes the world a better place.

I always travel with a large insulated water bottle (don’t forget you’ll have to empty this to go through security), a travel toothbrush and toothpaste and I’ll grab myself a coffee at the earliest opportunity.

Tips to travel Iceland on a budget, plus travel expert-approved gear

Where to get local deals, take a dip in a hot spring and more.

Need some summer vacation ideas that won't break the bank? "Good Morning America" is off to Iceland and packing expert tips to help create the perfect travel bucket list on a budget.

From free dips in hot springs to the stunning Seljalandsfoss waterfall, ABC News' Ashan Singh explored the Nordic island nation and shared the top ways to enjoy every stop of the trip without overspending.

PHOTO: Tourists walk around Seljalandsfoss waterfall, Aug. 12, 2021, near Storidalur, Iceland.

"Iceland is a tremendous deal from the Boston area in particular -- flights are only about five hours in each direction -- you could take just a long weekend there and still get an action-packed trip," Eric Rosen director of travel content for The Points Guy, told "GMA."

TPG has seen deals for as low as $400 and for travelers who don't care where they're seated on the plane, some fares drop as low as $230.

When it comes to hotels, Rosen offered another simple tip, spend now on credit cards from brands like Hilton or Marriott that, once the spending threshold is reached, offer large bonus points.

"Hilton cards for instance, offer anywhere from 130 to 180,000 points typically as part of their bonus," he said. "And that's going to be good enough for two maybe even three nights at some of these hotels in Reykjavik. And that could be your whole trip right there."

Iceland activities on a budget

Get a taste of the city's culture with the Reykjavík City Card, which gives visitors access to multiple museums, art galleries, pools and even bus transportation for free.

Enjoy going home with a fashionable souvenir? Local knits are quintessentially Iceland, but with handmade sweaters priced up to $500, Singh sought out second hand store, Extraloppan to score a sweater as low as $50.

Rent a car. Singh found deals for as low as $86 a day.

Save on a more extravagant meal by finding a deal through the Dineout Iceland app, which for a small fee offers discounts all over the land of fire and ice.

PHOTO: ABC News' Ashan Singh enjoys a roadside hot dog in Iceland.

Looking for a cheap and quick local bite? Try a roadside hot dog for just $4.

Visit the free National Parks and take in sights like waterfalls and geysers, but Singh suggests skipping the Blue Lagoon, which can cost $350 for a family of four, instead opt for taking a dip in a local, free hot spring.

Travel + Leisure / Daisy Rodriguez

My first night camping in a travel trailer was the beginning of two years spent living full-time on the road in a vintage 1969 Airstream Overlander. I rolled all the way from Florida to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, from Austin to Arizona, and spent a spring camped out steps from the crisp rushing water of the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest. I never considered myself a rugged outdoorsy type, but after jumping in head first to the van-lifer lifestyle, I picked up a few skills, hacks, and gear tips that made life on the road a lot more comfortable .

As an RV camper, I chased an endless summer, following fair weather in order to camp comfortably year round. But for most of North America, spring and summer are peak camping seasons and great times to take stock of your camping gear as REI drops prices to make room for new inventory . You’ll find normally pricey outdoor gear with major markdowns (think: up to 70 percent off) that will delight any camper, hiker, and adventurer, as well as last-chance savings on winter apparel essentials and ski accessories. But, you'll have to act fast to snag the best deals; they're selling out fast. Read on to see what one former full-time camper recommends picking up from this limited time REI sale.

When I started camping, I was as far from Bear Grylls as you could get. I didn’t grow up camping and the hobby felt intimidating, but I soon learned that you don’t need to have all of the high-tech gear and equipment to have fun exploring the great outdoors. I started building my outdoor gear kit with the basics: a quality puffy jacket, base layers, a headlamp, and long-lasting boots, and made sure to rent a simple and compact four-person tent — but you can get this Northwood backpacking tent for 60 percent off , bringing it down to about the same price as a two-day rental.

However, the most important thing to have with you on a camping trip is a curious mind and a love for the surprises of nature. After that, you’ll want dry socks , plenty of layers , a raincoat , and extra water — don’t forget the extra water, even if you don’t think that you’ll need it. Whether you’re an avid outdoorsy type, or just want to be prepared for anything, these top REI spring deals will set you up for a summer season of well-traveled adventures.

Best travel bag & luggage deals.

Tactical outdoor bags are designed for usability and durability, making them a carry-all that can withstand all kinds of adventure. Many are equipped with features that come in handy no matter how you travel: waterproof exterior, RFID-protected pockets, ripstop fabric, washable interiors, alternating carrying straps, water bottle pockets, and collapsible capabilities.

When I traveled to Paris last year, I packed my collapsible REI duffel (now 30 percent off), folded compactly in its carrying envelope, in my carry-on. By the time I made my way back home, I had acquired so many souvenirs, vintage clothes, and French pharmacy beauty essentials that I filled up the duffel and checked it on my way back. On my next trip, I’ll be packing this on-sale convertible tote so I can transform it into a backpack when I need to hop on an e-bike to zip around.

  • Mountain Hardware AMG 55 Pack , $290 (originally $420)
  • REI Co-op Pack-Away 45 Tote , $40 (originally $80)

  • Osprey Arcane Crossbody Bag , $48 (originally $65)

The North Face Base Camp Voyager Duffel 32L

When I was camping in the Airstream, I’d always have a “setup beer” and “breakdown coffee.” In the afternoon, once I arrived at a new campsite, I’d crack a cold one and pour it into an insulated thermos to keep it chilled while slowly setting up camp. In the morning, a piping hot coffee would go in the same stainless steel thermos so it stayed warm as I broke down and packed up. All that to say, a versatile beverage bottle that can do it all — for both hot and cold drinks — is a camper’s right-hand. REI sources some of the best brands for insulated drinkware, like Hydro Flask, whose Coffee Cup travel tumbler has been marked down to $26 this weekend.

But the retailer has more than just bottles on sale right now; REI’s other travel accessories are designed for smart, savvy adventures — like this Sherpani Women's Lima Shoulder Bag that's perfect for any outing and 30 percent off, or the Thule Subterranean PowerShuttle Travel Case that'll make packing a breeze.

  • Hydro Flask Coffee Cup With Flex Sip Lid , $26 (originally $35)
  • MicroLite Flip Cup Vacuum Water Bottle , $14 (originally $28)
  • Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Dry Sack 3-pack , $42 (originally $60)
  • Yeti Daytrip Lunch Box , $64 (originally $80)
  • Sherpani Women's Lima Shoulder Bag , $42 (originally $60)
  • Eagle Creek Packable Waist Bag , $22 (originally $30)
  • Thule Subterranean PowerShuttle Travel Case , $21 (originally $30)
  • REI Trail 2 Waist Pack , $21 (originally $30)
  • Sunday Adventures Adventure Stow Hat , $32 (originally $42)

Thule Subterranean PowerShuttle Travel Case

In the spring, retailers make massive markdowns on last-season’s stock in order to make room for new season colors and styles. Fluffy fleeces and layerable flannels come in handy on chilly camp mornings, which are common in the summer if you’re pitching a tent in destinations like Michigan’s Upper Peninsula or the Rockies. And you might not need these high-tech insulated running leggings now, but you’ll be thanking yourself for jumping on their discounted price come those chilly fall mornings (which are just a few months down the road).

  • Smartwool Men's Merino Plant-Based Dye T-shirt , $60 (originally $80)
  • Flylow Lupine Women's Insulated Jacket , $69 (originally $230)
  • REI Co-op Women's Trailsmith Fleece Jacket , $22 (originally $90)
  • Patagonia Men's 8-inch Multi Trails Shorts , $47 (originally $79)
  • Patagonia Women's Long-sleeve Flannel Shirt , $29 (originally $99)
  • Kuhl Women's Freeflex Cargo Shorts , $40 (originally $89)
  • Patagonia Women's Wind Shield Pants $84 (originally $169)
  • Pearl IZumi Women's Attack Cycling Tights , $30 (originally $100)

If you want to instantly blend in with the camping crowd, grab yourself a pair of Blundstone Classic Chelsea Boots (currently marked down by a rare 50 percent in select colors and selling out fast). The Tasmanian-made boots are on the feet of mountain town residents everywhere. But more than just a fashion statement, the fan-favorite boots are simply well-made and incredibly versatile as an everyday shoe. I’ve worn my Blundstones with a silk skirt and cashmere sweater, and also hiked them across muddy Appalachian trails and streams — they’re simple boots that can do a lot.

Now’s also the time to get your hands on the Nikes of the outdoor gear world: Chacos. The best (in my opinion) hiking sandal brand, Chaco's new-and-improved Z/Cloud 2 Sandals are 25 percent off ahead of all of your summer hikes.

  • REI Co-op Women's Swiftland MT Trail-Running Shoes , $39 (originally $130)
  • Chaco Women's Z/Cloud 2 Hiking Sandals , $75 (originally $100)
  • REI Co-op Men's Flash TT Hiking Boots , $85 (originally $170)
  • La Sportiva x Janji Jackal II Trail-Running Shoes , $70 (originally $175)
  • Altra Women's Lone Peak 7 Trail-Running Shoes , $105 (originally $130)
  • Hoka Men's Arahi 6 Road-Running Shoes , $113 (originally $140)
  • REI Co-op Men's Swiftland MT BlueSky Trail-Running Shoes , $75 (originally $150)
  • Keen Women's WK400 Leather Walking Shoes , $80 (originally $160)
  • Merrell Men's Moab Speed Mid GORE-TEX Hiking Boots , $128 (originally $170)
  • Sorel Men's Mac Hill Lite Mid Waterproof Boots , $87 (originally $175)

REI Co-op Men's Flash TT Hiking Boots

Headlamps may look goofy, but they’re incredibly useful at the campsite. When you’re camping you always need your hands free, so things like flashlights actually aren’t super useful. The best headlamps have various light intensities (like your car’s headlights), and a red-light setting so you’re not blinding your fellow campmates and you can better view Dark Sky parks. This Snap Solo Headlamp from Princeton Tec has an articulating and removable lamp head and its 48 percent off.

Don’t forget to pack a small gas canister or portable stove , which are absolutely essential for boiling water — and most importantly, making coffee. Speaking of this essential elixir, don’t be caught on the trail with coffee grounds and no way to use them. Have a collapsible pour-over that lives in your camping kit, like this one from Pourigami that's 26 percent off.

  • Alps Mountaineering Dash Chair , $45 (originally $120)
  • MPowerd Luci Pro Series Inflatable Solar Lantern , $35 (originally $50)
  • Alpine Mountain Gear Weekender Tent 4 , $65 (originally $150)
  • Mountainsmith Antero Sleeping Bag , $65 (originally $120)
  • IceMule Clear 15L Cooler , $55 (originally $110)
  • Trekmates Bomberlite Sleeping Pad , $54 (originally $119)
  • Big Agnes Goosenest Inflatable Cot , $163 (originally $300)
  • Coleman OneSource Heated Stadium Seat , $61 (originally $140)
  • Miir Pourigami Coffee Maker , $22 (originally $30)

Trekmates Bomberlite Sleeping Pad

It doesn’t have to be ski season to have a chilly morning at camp, where you need some extra comfort. If you’re camping in the Southern Hemisphere in the summer months (say Patagonia or Australia), then you can hit the jackpot on winter apparel before your trip. But even summer Alaska cruises call for insulated layers.

Winter gear is notoriously expensive, so spring sales are the best time to get good deals. Start with staple base layers that both insulate and wick away moisture, like this core base layer top from REI Co-Op that's 30 percent off. The gold standard of cold weather gear is a “puffy,” or down jacket. This Lole puffy (now 59 percent off) is a jacket that you can wear down to the threads. Still not warm enough? Stock up on Ignik's hand and toe warmers (one pack is currently less than a dollar), so you always have some on hand (pun intended).

  • Flylow Women's Laurel Down Vest , $45 (originally $150)
  • Picture Organic Clothing Men's Testy Bib Pants , $125 (originally $250)

Nude cruise to set sail from Florida next year: Here are the starting costs, itinerary

The "Big Nude Boat" cruise, which allows passengers to bare all − yes, even at the buffet − is set to sail from Florida next year.

The "11-day adventure" to the Caribbean is set for the first two weeks of February on the Norwegian Pearl, according to the Bare Necessities Tour & Travel website.

"Bare Necessities’ newest nude cruise is a private island double-dip with a brand new travel partner!" the company wrote on its website.

The trip which embarks from Miami, includes "an exclusive visit to an idyllic private island" in The Bahamas as well a another exclusive stop on the way back to the Port of Miami.

"Two opportunities to enjoy a new slice of Bare-adise, coupled with a beautiful selection of Eastern Caribbean island stops, will make this a can’t miss Big Nude Boat experience," the travel company posted.

Why cruises are popular with swingers: 'What happens on the ship ... stays on the ship'

A cruise to nowhere: Royal Caribbean sailing canceled after guests boarded

Big Nude Boat cruise sailing dates and destinations:

The ship departs from the Port of Miami on Feb. 3 and returns to the same port on Feb. 14.

The itinerary includes stops at the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, Dominica, Martinique and St. Lucia.

How much does the Big Nude Boat cruise cost?

Rates for an inside cabin start at $2,000 per person.

They stretch as high as $33,155 for the top room on the ship: a Haven three-bedroom garden villa.

Laws of the land (and sea)

Guests are encouraged to park their bare behinds on towels provided on board in areas including the pool deck and the buffet area, according to the website.

"Passengers can easily follow our rule on nudist etiquette by always placing a towel down before sitting," it reads. "Remember to pack a swimsuit; not all excursions are clothing optional."
