Join Pemberton Historical Park for their Annual Turkey Trek 5K on Thanksgiving! The trail goes through Pemberton Park’s scenic forests, meadows, and wetlands. Refreshments and pie will be available after the race.

Before you gear up for your big Thanksgiving feast, come run the Turkey Trek 5K along Pemberton Historical Park's beautiful nature trails in Salisbury, Maryland. The race winds through Pemberton Park's forests, meadows and wetlands. The course is mostly flat, with one or two small hills. Refreshments and holiday pie will be available after the race! *Registration includes Long Sleeve Shirt Guaranteed if registered by 11/01/2023* *Late Fee of $5 after 11/10/23* * THE RACE IS RAIN OR SHINE *

Salisbury, MD  – Race is Thanksgiving Day Wicomico County Recreation & Parks has new additions planned for this year’s Turkey Trek, coming up on Thanksgiving Day.

The 14th annual race is set for Thursday, Nov. 24, at 8 a.m. on the trails of Pemberton Historical Park. Check-in begins at 7 a.m., and before the start, Kate James of Driven Physiotherapy will host a group warm-up.

There will be awards for the overall male and female winners and for first through third place male and female participants in several age groups. Participants can dress up and try to earn the award for Best Thanksgiving Costume.

“The Turkey Trek 5K is a fun Thanksgiving tradition,” said race director Lillie Olson. “We’re keeping aspects of the race that everyone loves – like the post-race pie – and also bringing some fun changes to the awards.”

This year’s awards will feature Double D Ranch gift baskets for the overall winners, wooden medals for age group winners, and a turkey crown and inflatable turkey leg for the costume contest winner.

The Turkey Trek will also feature Rise Up Coffee this year, and there will be a live turkey on-site to take a photo with.

Registration is now $40, and race proceeds go toward Pemberton Park Nature Camp and other environmental education programs. The deadline to guarantee a race shirt has passed.

Pemberton Historical Park is located at 5561 Plantation Lane in Salisbury. Preregistration is available online through 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at www.PembertonPark.org and in person at the Wicomico Civic Center box office (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.). Registration will also be available on-site race morning.

“Come on out and start your Thanksgiving holiday on the trails of Pemberton Park,” Olson said.

Does the thought of Turkey with all the trimmings spark fear in your waistline?  Well, it’s no wonder!  The average holiday meal contains more than 3,000 calories!

But, don’t fret, we’ve got the solution (or, at least part of it!).  Before you sit down at the Thanksgiving table, head over to Pemberton Historical Park in Salisbury for the 8 th Annual Turkey Trek!  This “pre-turkey 5k” has become an area tradition, taking runners through the beautiful nature trails of Pemberton Park in Salisbury, MD.  The race kicks off at 9:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, with on-site registration beginning at 7:30 a.m.  If you would like to register in advance, you can do so at the Wicomico Civic Center Box Office (Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.)

The course is mostly flat, with one or two small hills. Refreshments and holiday pie will be available after the race (it  is  Thanksgiving after all)!  Best of all, proceeds from the day’s event will go directly towards Pemberton Historical Park’s environmental education programs.  Not to mention…it will give you a little piece of mind before you belly up to the dinner table!
