Go behind-the-scenes and see how producers brought the magic to life

Aside from film sets, props and clothing used in the films, visitors can get a close look into the production of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises. The tour features set dioramas and concept art used to create memorable movie scenes. It also explains how sets were constructed and what materials were used, how the sounds in the movies were produced and the different techniques used to bring magical creatures to life.

Throughout the tour, there are several interactive experiences for visitors to enjoy. Next door, the Frog Cafe offers a unique dining experience where guests can enjoy their meals inside giant chocolate frog boxes used as booths.

The Making of Harry Potter - Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo

The 1rst hogwarts park in asia.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo - The Making of Harry Potter is the largest indoor theme park dedicated to the saga, inaugurated in June 16, 2023, and located in Nerima in the north-west of Tokyo. It offers a dive into the magic of the Harry Potter movies with behind-the-scene secrets, life-size decors and authentic costumes worn by the actors, all in the same place for the fans of the famous British wizard.

A first Harry Potter theme park   🎡 opened in London in 2012 and it is now Tokyo ’s turn to have its own Wizarding World, since June 16, 2023. The venue is set on the former Toshimaen theme park in Nerima , a quiet residential neighborhood to the north-west of the capital’s center, and its official name is "Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo - The Making of Harry Potter" in English. It took 3 years to build the 30,000m² and arrange the site to the colors of Hogwarts, the famous sorcery school and it can boast:

  • Being the world's largest indoor Harry Potter-themed park ; and,
  • The 1rst Warner Studios in Asia .

In the same fashion as the Ghibli Park inaugurated in November 2022 near Nagoya , these cinema studios do not have thrilling rides but offer a beautiful and interesting immersion in the universes of the Harry Potter and the Fantastic Beasts movies , all written by J. K. Rowling and produced by Warner Bros. in the United States. The course is identical to London studios’ with additional decors and new interactive installations.

The Making of Harry Potter - Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo, Portrait gallery

Most of the tour is set indoors , with a small outdoor section in the middle of the course. Therefore, weather conditions have few impact on the visit and we recommend this visit on hot weather or rainy  ☔️ days. Note that advance online booking is required. The day and hour of the tour can be selected upon availability, and the biggest Harry Potter fans may consider arriving early in the morning to make the most of their day at the park. The whole tour requires about 4 hours . Ticket reservation is available a few months in advance and can therefore be made when planning the trip.

Admission fees are moderate for a theme park in Japan , and are even less expensive than their London counterpart. The Yen  💴 ’s exchange rate in 2023 is indeed very advantageous to western tourists.

There, Toshimaen, the closest station , as well as the surroundings of the park are decorated with sculptures and nods to movies and the 3 main actors. We recommend arriving earlier than the hour set to enter the premisses so as to enjoy the atmosphere building up while approaching the Studios. Note that Nerima ward is relatively off Tokyo center and that the transportation time is also to be included in the timing of the visit.

Once inside, the movies’ original soundtracks , especially of the first 3 movies composed by John Williams, are played throughout the visit. Just before entering the studios, you’ll find a food hall and a souvenir shop selling: costumes to don for the occasion like the uniforms of the 4 houses of the school, and magic wands in a large array of choice. Now you are ready to explore the behind-the-scenes of Harry Potter movies.

The Making of Harry Potter - Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo, Slytherin House common room

Wanderings in the movies’ decors

After a first 15 minutes movie in English, visitors enter the studios through the fantastic Great Hall providing an instant immersion into Hogwarts’ universe. Several themed-spaces follow, regarding the making off special effects, the soundtrack, the animation of non-human characters, in short everything about the creation of the movies’ magic .

Iconic places are reconstituted in full scale on several shooting sets, and populated by mannequins dressed in the movies’ costumes and looking like the actors, such as:

  • The common rooms of the Gryffindor and Slytherin houses;
  • Professor Dumbledore’s office ;
  • Ancient books rows in the library ;
  • A path of the Forbidden Forest ;
  • The Dursley House at the 4 Privet Drive , with Harry’s bed in the closet under the stair (the only floor accessible is the ground floor);
  • Several vehicles such as the purple Knight Bus;
  • Platform 9 ¾ with the Hogwarts Express; and,
  • The Ministry of Magic .

Pictures are allowed and one can even touch part of the decors to recreate a striking scene of the movie series.

In the same manner as the impressive Great Hall entrance, the visit ends on a high note at Diagon Alley , wandering in the streets of a fantasy retro London. One can’t help but wish being able to *magically* come in one of the shops.

The Making of Harry Potter - Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo, 4 Privet Drive and vehicle

Bonus interactive installations

Fans of the Harry Potter saga will be delighted to take part in activities allowing them to become for a moment a protagonist in one of the movies scenes . At Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo, there are 3 interactive installations to try during the visit, where you can:

  • Take the place of one of the living portraits hanged in the gallery with the moving stairway;
  • Attend a Quidditch match and support your favorite team; and,
  • Fly in the air like a real-life wizard on a magic broom.

There will certainly be a waiting line for these popular activities, after which you can download a short edited movie featuring yourself, that make a nice customized souvenir.

The various spaces are lit up in such ways that one feels like a day is passing, as if moving through the indoor studios in a filmed story, starting on the daytime and ending at night .

The Making of Harry Potter - Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo, Hogwarts model scale

Themed cafes and shops within the studios

As for food, the studios are not outdone and various themed cafes can be found along the way, with sweet or savory dishes, and typical food that Harry and his comrades would eat . However, without much surprise, the look of the food is better than its taste and prices can sometimes be quite expensive.

If we had only one choice, we would take again in a heartbeat the delicious Butterbeer at the Butterbeer Bar in the outdoor part of the park. The drink served here is non-alcoholic, made with sugary soda. The plastic cup can be brought back home thanks to an area at the exit of the cafe to wash and wrap it.

Several souvenir shops are spread throughout the park, with a large array of official merch from tiny gadgets to luxury items such as purses. Thanks to the Japanese savoir faire a kawaii set of goods is also available, featuring Harry Potter like an anime character.

The Making of Harry Potter - Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo, Butterbear and popcorn

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo - The Making of Harry Potter ‘s inauguration was much-awaited and is really worth the detour to Tokyo’s north-western periphery. Early days fans should not be disappointed and the others can just watch the 1rst movie to be able to get most of the references. The whole exhibition is displayed in English , as per the original story of Harry Potter, and in Japanese.

Touring the studios is pleasant despite the crowd , thanks to visitors caps on each hours slot. During our visit, we mainly saw adults and a few families with children .

Review of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo

I recently visited the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo, and I would like to share my thoughts on the experience. The atmosphere of the tour is immersive, making visitors feel like they have stepped into their favorite Warner Bros. films and shows.

There are various sets and interactive exhibits that allow fans to gain an in-depth understanding of the behind-the-scenes magic.

The lines for popular attractions can be quite long, but they do move steadily. To make the most of my time, I arrived early and prioritized the attractions I wanted to see the most.

It is also a great idea to make use of the tour’s Fast Track option if it is available, which can be purchased in advance to help bypass any lengthy queues.

One thing I appreciated about my visit was the opportunity to receive helpful tips from the knowledgeable staff at various points throughout the tour.

They were enthusiastic and eager to provide insights into the filmmaking process, helping me to fully appreciate the work that goes into creating the beloved movies and shows.

In terms of refreshments, there are dining options scattered throughout the tour, offering a variety of dishes catering to different preferences. I found the prices to be reasonable and the quality of the food was satisfactory.

The tour offers a range of options for visitors of all ages, making it a worthwhile experience for both families and hardcore fans.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Comparison: London vs Tokyo

I recently had the opportunity to visit both the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London and the new Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo.

As a fan of the Harry Potter and DC Comics franchises, I was excited to compare the two experiences and see which one is worth the visit.

In my experience, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is a must-visit for all Harry Potter fans. It offers an extensive look at the making of the films with real sets, costumes, and props used during production.

Some highlights include the Hogwarts Express, the Great Hall, and Diagon Alley. In addition, you can try butterbeer and enter the Forbidden Forest. The focus of this studio tour is solely on the world of Harry Potter.

In contrast, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo feels more like a broader amusement park. It showcases several popular Warner Bros. productions, including Harry Potter, DC Comics, and other famous film franchises.

While the Tokyo tour still offers Harry Potter attractions such as the Hogwarts Castle and Diagon Alley, the experience is less immersive compared to the London tour. However, it makes up for it with its variety.

London Studio Tour:

  • Exclusive focus on Harry Potter
  • Real sets, costumes, and props
  • Interactive experiences like butterbeer tasting and the Forbidden Forest

Tokyo Studio Tour:

  • Features multiple Warner Bros. productions
  • Blends of Harry Potter, DC Comics, and other film franchises
  • More of an amusement park experience

In terms of location, the London Studio Tour is situated just outside of the city, while the Tokyo Studio Tour is part of the larger Toshimaen amusement complex in Nerima, Tokyo. Depending on where you’re visiting from, the ease of access to the tours may vary.

Regarding ticket prices, both the London and Tokyo tours are similarly priced, ranging between $60 to $80 per adult depending on the available discounts and time of visit.

For a more in-depth experience specific to Harry Potter, the London Studio Tour is definitely a better value.

So, is the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo worth it? If you’re a fan of multiple Warner Bros. properties and travelling to Asia, then the Tokyo tour offers an enjoyable experience, but for a die-hard Harry Potter fan, the London Studio Tour has a more comprehensive and immersive experience that is well worth the trip.

Final Thoughts

Visiting the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo was an enlightening experience for me. The tour provided a captivating glimpse into the world of film and television production.

As a fan of movies and TV series, especially those produced by Warner Bros., I found the various sets, exhibits, and activities to be truly fascinating.

The level of detail and the effort put into recreating some of the most iconic scenes from popular titles was remarkable.

For instance, walking through the streets of Gotham City or exploring sets from the Harry Potter series truly felt like stepping into those magical worlds.

Additionally, the studio offered opportunities to learn about different aspects of filmmaking, from costume design to sound and special effects.

This helped me appreciate the incredible amount of work and dedication that goes into bringing these stories to life.

In terms of the overall value, I found the Studio Tour to be reasonably priced considering the variety and duration of activities offered.

However, it is important to bear in mind that your personal interests will significantly impact your experience.

If you are a fan of Warner Bros. productions, you will likely get more enjoyment and value from the tour.

Lastly, the accessibility and organization of the tour were commendable. The staff was both helpful and knowledgeable, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all visitors.

All things considered, I believe the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo is a unique and engaging way to explore the magic of movie-making.

Warner Bros. Discovery to Expand Anime Production in Japan: ‘The Genre Is Increasing Reach and Relevance Globally’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Suicide Squad ISEKAI

Warner Bros. Discovery is to significantly expand its investment and production of Japanese anime through its existing local studio in Japan.

“We have a Japanese anime studio, which has been producing five or ten anime series per year, over the last few years,” said James Gibbons, WBD president of Asia-Pacific. “We’ve approved expansion to take that to more than ten series per year.”

Popular on Variety

Both “JoJo’s” and “Record of Ragnarok” are currently on Netflix and have ranked strongly, featuring in the streamer’s global weekly top ten.

“There is Japanese anime that comes from original IP. But there’s also anime that comes from elsewhere. And we’ve looked at our DC universe and said, ‘Can we take these characters and reinvent them in world of world of anime,’ which is not straightforward because you have to do it the right way. You have to work with the right studios to make it happen and to build your fan base,” said Gibbons.

The story sees Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., assemble a group of notorious DC criminals Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface and King Shark for a mission into an otherworldly realm full of swords and magic and where orcs rampage and dragons rule the skies.

“We see strong growth for the genre, increasing reach and relevance not only for Asian audiences but globally,” said a WBD spokesman.

Gibbons said that the group is also keen to play a part in other content categories in Asia. Aside from anime, its priorities include Japanese scripted “to some extent,” Korean drama series and Chinese-language content.

The executive explained that Korean series are a known quantity with “very well-defined pricing” for the rights. “[Korean content is a very important category, a really important part of streaming in APAC and, increasingly, around the world [..] but it is a mature market. So, the way that we access that will be different compared to, for example, Chinese content, which is a much newer category. [Chinese shows account for] a smaller percentage of consumption in APAC right now. But it certain markets it is growing pretty fast.”

The conglomerate has plans to finally bring its Max streaming product into East Asia, where a stopgap HBO Go service continues to operate. Gibbons says that Max will provide content and operational improvements.

“For Southeast Asia, we will be launching with a much broader content proposition. Even though we have HBO Go now doesn’t mean we’ve made the entire library available. So, first, there’ll be much deeper access to what we already have. In addition, the entire factual side of the business will come online. That’s not there at all [on HBO Go]. We’ll also expand the kids part of it. And in addition, we’re going to take a strategic, defined approach on the Asian content side,” said Gibbons. “So, when you add all that together, plus a dramatically improved tech stack, I think that we’ll have a brand new service.”

Speaking this week at Series Mania in France, WBD’s JB Perette this week announced that Max will launch in 20 European countries on May 21 , in time for the Summer Olympic Games.

Warner Bros. Hollywood Debuts Historical TCM Classic Films Studio Tour

Stung by criticism, Warner Bros. launches a new tour of its Burbank studios that pays homage to the glory days of Hollywood. How different is the TCM Classic Films Tour from the existing studio tour?

By Jason Cochran

April 17, 2024

One of the frustrations of paying a pilgrimage to Hollywood's movie studio tours is the creeping dominance of corporate marketing in the retelling of American cultural history.

As corporations tighten their grip on Hollywood's most historic film production lots, tours become less about the heritage and craftsmanship that made the studios great and more about franchises and souvenirs—Batman in the 1990s, Spider-Man a decade ago, Harry Potter today. But not everyone goes to Hollywood to see sets from Pretty Little Liars or Friends . Many of us also want to see the stomping grounds of James Dean, James Cagney, and Bette Davis.

Fortunately, recent scuffles in the executive suites at Warner Bros. have, surprisingly, resulted in a newfound appreciation of the past—and it's deepening the scope of one of the company's studio tours.

On April 16, Warner Bros. christened a new variety of its studio tour that's not about superheroes, but, rather, the great pictures and stars from Hollywood's Golden Age.

The new  TCM Classic Films Tour at Warner Bros. was born out of a near-death experience for the channel it's named for.

In 2023, the corporate masters of the popular Turner Classic Movies channel, which has garnered a cult following of viewers and vacationers , began gutting the channel's staff. The move whipped up such a backlash that some of America's biggest filmmaking giants, including directors Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Paul Thomas Anderson, united to scold the leaders of Warner Bros. Discovery and to protect one of the few mainstream outlets for classic film.

Almost a year later, timed for the same week as TCM's film festival , which draws thousands of fans to Los Angeles each year, Warner Bros. has launched a special studio tour devoted specially to film heritage.

Many features of the new tour, which takes about three and a half hours, aren't different from the regular studio tour , which will remain available.

The latter "includes a visit to Stage 48: Script to Screen , an interactive sound stage highlighting different steps of film production and iconic sets, including the Central Perk Set from Friends and Leonard and Sheldon’s apartment from The Big Bang Theory . The tour’s grand finale is Action and Magic Made Here , showcasing the DC Universe and Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series. The tour concludes with A Celebration of Warner Bros. , showcasing awards and original props and costumes from classic titles including Casablanca , The Music Man , and My Fair Lady ."

The difference in the TCM-branded tour lies in the 90 minutes spent scooting around the lot in small-group motorized carts painted in a distinct TCM livery. On the new tour, most of the references and filming locations hark back to movies made when stars were stars.

All Warner Bros. studio tours, even the non-TCM ones, begin with your assigned guide/driver asking your group what movies and stars you're most keen to learn about so that each tour can be somewhat tailored to the interests of the group. But on the TCM tours, guides have truly been trained in the history of the studio system's heyday, and little time is wasted with filler on more recent productions unless tourgoers ask.

In addition to the guides' specialized knowledge, the tour features a few taped introductions by TCM's onscreen hosts.

The TCM tours also add a few stops and sights that the standard tours don't include, such as "the exterior of James Dean’s apartment where he resided while working on the lot; the serene rose garden, which in the early years was Jack Warner’s tennis court and was surrounded by talent dressing rooms; and the Eastwood Scoring Stage built in 1929 where countless titles have been scored."

Frommer's was not taken to any of those spots on the tour preview that was offered to the press. Studio tour staff warn guests that not every location is available on every tour departure.

As on the regular tour, TCM's version visits the Property House (pictured below), where guides point out artifacts used in classic films from the '30s to the '60s.

warner bros studio tour japonais

The new tour isn't a radical departure from the standard offering. More than anything, the TCM Classic Films Tour seems like a simple way to make sure fans of Hollywood's heyday are paired with the studio guides most equipped to inform them, giving guides permission to delve into the all-time greats rather than hawk the latest blockbuster.

In an era when the accountants at Warner Bros. are  literally destroying finished films just to log tax write-offs, simply nurturing a little historical respect can feel like a daring act—and movie fans are lucky to find it.

The TCM Classic Films Tour at Warner Bros. Studios Hollywood is available most days from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Tickets are $95 for adults, $82 for children ages 5–10. Book tours in advance at  wbstudiotour.com .

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .

Oppenheimer Universal

Following Warner Bros’ Covid release of Tenet and the studio’s then-aggressive pivot to a theatrical day-and-date distribution model on Max, Christopher Nolan shopped his next project, the World War II-set Oppenheimer , to rival studios. Universal snapped at the opportunity to take on the $100 million production., thought on paper it was a risky bet to get behind a three-hour, dialogue-heavy biopic about a nuclear physicist. No one, not even the studio, saw the pic’s near-$1 billion global gross coming.

THE BOX SCORE

The bottom line.

Participations here are at $175M and that includes everyone: Nolan, wife/producer Emma Thomas, producer Charles Roven, Cillian Murphy (who landed a Best Actor Oscar win), Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr (who grabbed his first Oscar win here for Best Supporting Actor), Matt Damon, etc. Their back-end deals were largely figured at cash break zero with some other fees. I’m told that the reports of Nolan walking away with $100M are widely exaggerated, with his take somewhere lower than that. The $170M streaming revenue includes what Uni paid itself to stream on Peacock, and it gave Oppenheimer a seven-month theatrical window to Peacock, where the pic became the most watched movie on the OTT service in its first weekend. The digital/DVD window was November 21, four months after the pic’s theatrical date. Net here is $201.9M. Wait till you see what film is in fourth place in our Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament — it’s a shocker.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Margot Robbie Simon Kinberg Olivia Wilde Rob Liefeld

Avengelyne may be flying to Warner Bros., with the studio in early talks to acquire the comic book package that hit earlier this month.

Don’t Worry Darling filmmaker Olivia Wilde is attached to direct the feature, with Barbie team Margot Robbie , Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara of LuckyChap producing. The banner has a first-look deal with Warners, which made the studio the first stop for the package, which has added screenwriter Tony McNamara to the mix. Longtime X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is also producing.

It’s one of several Liefeld creations that have garnered interest from Hollywood, among them Prophet , which once had Extraction filmmaker Sam Hargrave and star Jake Gyllenhaal attached, though the duo are no longer involved.

The package is the latest high-profile project Warners had acquired in recent months. It currently is shooting Ryan Coogler’s next movie , which the studio won in a bidding war earlier this year.
