It's the risk every outdoor festival takes, especially one as gargantuan as the Vans Warped Tour , which welcomed upward of 30,000 raging punk fans to the Atlantic City beach Saturday.

Even the best-laid plans can be derailed by inclement weather, and early Saturday evening, just as the lineup’s heaviest hitters were gearing up to take the festival’s main stage, the sky opened up and announcements blared over the PA: every last fan had to get the hell off the sand and seek shelter while the thunderstorm passed.

Thousands of sunburnt twenty-somethings spilled onto the boardwalk, hiding under awnings and filing into nearby casinos. Legions of millennials in backward caps, swimsuits and New Found Glory tees rubbed elbows at the craps and roulette tables, annoying the local gamblers and wondering if New Jersey’s largest rock festival of the summer would continue. Gaggles more headed for the parking lots, assuming a washout.

But the first of this two-day celebration — of the punk conglomerate Warped Tour’s 25th anniversary — would not be bested by a few bolts of lightning surging over the horizon. The storm passed, fans were allowed back onto the sprawling festival grounds that spanned well over a half-mile between Playground and Steel Piers, and the music resumed just after 7 p.m.

A Day To Remember, an incendiary pop-punk and metalcore hybrid from Florida — who have been among the most commercially successful punks band over the last decade — headlined the Saturday lineup and unleashed an explosive 50-minute set to close out the day. Mosh pits the size of maelstroms opened in the expansive crowd as frontman Jeremy McKinnon sang and screamed. As with most of the bands playing this Warped one-off (this was the only East Coast event after more than two-decades of nation-spanning summer tours), ADTR once used the traveling roadshow as a launchpad toward greater fame. McKinnon recalled Saturday night how his band began playing a single Warped date in 2005, on the event’s smallest stage.

“Maybe 15 people watched us that day,” he said.

As the five-piece group tore through fan favorites “The Plot To Bomb The Panhandle” and “Have Faith In Me,” McKinnon tasked fans with a stunt so ridiculous it could only take place at a Warped event — crowd-surfing atop another crowd-surfer, in other words: while one person lays flat on their back, supported by the hands of many fans below them, another person stands up on that person’s torso like a surfboard. A dozen or so people actually achieved this rib-cracking feat. McKinnon seemed genuinely impressed.

Before ADTR, two of the fest’s eldest statesmen in Nebraska reggae-rockers 311 and California stalwarts Bad Religion took the main stage after sunset, to decidedly less fanfare despite their exceeding contributions to the alternative community and influence on many of the younger bands on the lineup.

As the festival attempted to make up for lost time after the rain, 311 got the short end of the stick, performing barely 30 minutes and to make matters worse, rapper Doug “SA” Martinez’s microphone didn’t function. Yet e had no idea, rhyming passionately on “Come Original” and “Creatures” into the dead mic (it must have sounded fine on stage). Finally, on the set closer “Down,” the band realized the issue and Martinez shared the microphone with frontman Nick Hexum to the crowd’s relief.

Bad Religion, which celebrates 40 years of punk power next year, delivered a blistering set to a crowd that nodded with limited recognition of genre staples “You” and “21st Century (Digital Boy).” Longtime frontman Greg Graffin still rips, as do enduring members Brett Gurewitz, Jay Bentley and Brian Baker.

Other highlights from Saturday, which began as a sweltering sunny day with hundreds of fans finding shade under the pier, included monster dance jams for pop-punk icons Good Charlotte and Simple Plan’s respective radio hits “Lifestyles of The Rich & Famous” and “I’d Do Anything,” plus massive singalongs for ultimate party-rocker Andrew W.K., who rages like no other.

A few New Jersey bands did their thing, too: throwback rockers Hidden in Plain View from Morris County, as well as newcomers The Ones You Forgot and Save Face doled solid sets to sizable crowds in the afternoon.

The fest ramps up again Sunday afternoon, and with no rain in the forecast and pop-punk titans Blink-182 headlining the bill and fan favorites Taking Back Sunday, The Used and The Starting Line on the undercard, Warped is set to reach new heights before the droves of recovering punk kids shlep back to the real world Monday morning.

311 Added To Warped Tour Lineup

warped tour 311

Groovy reggae-rockers 311 are the latest additions to this year's Vans Warped Tour lineup, according to a source close to the tour.

Singer/guitarist Nick Hexum, singer/rapper S.A. Martinez, guitarist Tim Mahoney, drummer Chad Sexton and bassist P-Nut will join previously announced main-stage acts Rancid, Pennywise, Less Than Jake, Weezer, and others (see [article id="1438573"]"Rancid, Pennywise, More Confirmed For Vans Warped Tour"[/article]) when the annual multi-band tour affectionately known as "Punk Rock Summercamp" kicks off June 22 in Phoenix.

Despite suing their label (see [article id="1434820"]"311 Files Suit Against Record Label"[/article]), the group is working on its as-yet-untitled sixth studio album (see [article id="1438971"]"311 Show Softer Side On Upcoming Album"[/article]) which it hopes to release this summer, so expect to hear new tunes when the band takes the Warped stage.

Warped Tour 25th anniversary lineups: Blink-182, The Offspring, 311, Taking Back Sunday, and more

After ending Warped Tour as a national touring festival last year, founder Kevin Lyman revealed in December that the festival would return with three events in 2019 to mark its 25th anniversary. More details were unveiled in January, and today (March 1st), the lineups were announced for all three locations.

The first event, taking place at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland, is not so much a festival as it is a celebration of the opening of the new exhibit “Forever Warped: 25 Years of the Warped Tour”. That will be a one-day affair on June 8th that will feature performances by Chali 2na & Cut Chemist, Hawthorne Heights, Emery, Simple Plan, and We the Kings.

Later that month, a full-on two-day festival will take place June 29th-30th on the beach in Atlantic City, New Jersey , where such acts as Blink-182, The Offspring, 311, A Day To Remember, Bad Religion, Taking Back Sunday, Good Charlotte, Less Than Jake, CKY, and dozens more acts will perform.

On July 20th and 21st, a similar two-day fest will be staged at the Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View, California . Among the big acts playing the West Coast event will be The Offspring, NOFX, Sum 41, The All-American Rejects, Bad Religion, Good Charlotte, Andrew W.K., Jawbreaker, Quicksand, and Fishbone, among many others.

Both lineups concentrate more on the punk rock, pop-punk, and emo that powered Warped throughout its run, as opposed to the heavier bands that were welcomed during its recent years. That said, there are some heavy metalcore acts like We Came As Romans, Memphis May Fire, and others on the lineups.

See the full lineups for each event in the posters below. Tickets for all three 25th anniversary Warped Tour events are available at VansWarpedTour.com , and are also available on StubHub .

Rancid, Weezer, 311, Kool Keith, Pennywise, Rollins Band, and the Misfits are some of the bigger artists confirmed to play the annual Vans Warped Tour, set to kick off June 22 in Phoenix. An official announcement of participating venues and additional acts for the nearly two-month tour is expected within two weeks. Making its Warped Tour debut this year will be Incredibly Strange Wrestling, a hybrid of punk rock and hardcore wrestling. ISW appeared on the San Francisco scene in the mid-’90s, and features such wrestlers as El Pollo Diablo, Macho Sasquatcho, Chupa Suave, and El Homo Loco. Young punks making the trek out to the Warped Tour will be encouraged to throw tortillas at the wrestlers. Here is the complete list of confirmed artists playing the 2001 Warped Tour: 311, Afi, Alien Ant Farm, the Ataris, Big Wig, Distillers, Dub Pistols, Esham, Fear, Fenix TX, Good Charlotte, Grant Theft Auto, Guttermouth, H20, Jepetto, the Juliana Theory, Kill Your Idols, Kool Keith, Less Than Jake, Madcap, Me First & The Gimme Gimmes, Midtown, the Misfits, Morgan Heritage, New Found Glory, No Motiv, Pennywise, Rancid, River City Rebels, Rollins Band, Saves The Day, Sugarcult, the Vandals, Userfriendly, and Weezer. Launch Media purchased the punk-centered music and sports festival last year from Creative Artists Agency, tour founder Kevin Lyman , and law firm Codikow, Carroll, Guido and Groffman. Ranker Music

Warped Tour is one of the biggest names in the concert canon. Those who haven't gone want to and those who have gone wait for the day they can go again. For a majority of its run, it was the largest traveling music festival in the United States. A number of past Warped Tour lineups have been impressive, but which year was the best? Help decide below!

Starting as an eclectic alternative rock festival in 1995 and gradually morphing into a punk rock festival by the next year, the tour gained momentum when Vans, the wildly popular shoe manufacturer, was signed on as the tour's main sponsor in 1996. As Warped Tour became increasingly popular with each passing year, more sponsors signed on, slowly growing the tour's scope of influence. Sadly, 2018 proved to be the final year of the famous tour as announced by Warped Tour's founder, Kevin Lyman.

You'll find every Warped Tour lineup here! Vote below on the best Warped Tour lineups, keeping in mind factors like the bands performing, production value, and overall spectacle. If you're an avid concert-goer, you can also check out this list of the best Coachella lineups ! (Disclaimer - some years certain dates had slightly different lineups).

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Moscow metro tour: architectural styles of the subway.

warped tour 311

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russia’s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalin’s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.

Culture Shock Rating

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

The tour can include a mix of private and public transport providing a level of comfort that is slightly below what you would experience at home. Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

You're out there in the global community! You are likely to be exposed to the elements, travel in whatever means of transport is available and basically take it as it comes, whatever comes! It can be tough.

Physical Rating

Our physical rating gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

These tours have very limited physical activity. Usually climbing in and out of the transport provided, walking through sites, markets etc included in the itinerary.

These tours have a bit of physical activity but nothing that should challenge you too much. This could be climbing on and off public transport through to a walk through the destination you're travelling in, they can include walking only tours or a combination of walking and transport.

These tours involve a bit of physical activity from walking up and down hills in the destination you're travelling in or the surrounding areas. Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.

Know More about this tour

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

Traveler Reviews

This tour exceeded our expectations. Nikolai (Nick), our tour guide, was very knowledgeable, thorough, and has a great personality. He didn't take shortcuts and really covered everything that was on the agenda in great detail. We saw beautiful metro stations and learned the history behind them, including many of the murals and designs.

We did the tour with Anna her knowledge and understanding of the History surrounding the metro brought the tour alive. Well done Anna!
