What is a "Core Charge"?

In order to understand what a core charge is, you must first understand what a core is. In the automotive industry, most products are manufactured from brand new materials. However, numerous products are also remanufactured, meaning that the manufacturer of the product takes a used product, typically removed from a vehicle, disassembles, and replaces all worn components of the master product. A great example of this is in regards to automatic transmissions in which the manufacturer takes an existing transmission, replaces all of the inner working components, such as the torque converter, valve body, etc. and merely reuses the case. Because aftermarket manufacturers require a steady stream of incoming cores to build, they charge a deposit on the core, known as a core charge, that is refunded upon receipt. In some cases, the core is not reusable, such as in the event of a cracked case, at which point the core deposit would not be credited as the core component is not reusable. If you plan on returning your core you have two options. OPTION 1: You can accept it, which means you will be charged for the part AND the core at time of purchase. You still have the option to send it back, and if you do, the core will be refunded back on the card used, presuming the core meets core criteria and the core is returned within 21 business days from originally receiving your order. If you have outstanding circumstances that would not allow the return to occur within 21 days, please contact us. OPTION 2 You can defer the core charge. If you defer it, you will not be charged a core at time of purchase. You will have 21 business days from the day you receive it to send it back. As long as the core is received within the 21 business days, you will not be charged. If 21 business days goes by and you do not send it back, the card on file will be charged the core amount. You still may send it back, and once received, we will issue the core amount as in store credit, pending any limitations as set forth by the manufacturer. Core deferral is limited to payment by credit card only.

No, this is not just another rebuilt box like what you'll get at your local auto parts store! These steering boxes are built in Washington state and offer unmatched steering control and longevity. We have personally run several brands and have had the best results to date with the Red-Head.

IMPORTANT: Some 1999 and 2000 model-year applications will feature a 32-spline sector, whereas late models will have a 36-spline sector. Please confirm your spline count before ordering. If you have a 36 spline, this box will fit your application, however, if you have a 32 spline, it will not. We also offer a 32-spline option.

This gearbox allows you to retain the factory steering shaft, as well as the stock pitman arm. This is a major advantage, especially for those with lifted trucks with dropped pitman arms, you will not have to change your pitman arm

HYDRAULIC STEERING ASSIST PORTS OPTION: Red-Head offers a porting option for those who are either already running a hydraulic assist steering, or plan to in the future. If you choose to make this upgrade to the box (from the drop-down menu), your gearbox will come with two pre-drilled and tapped ports with plugs. For clarification, hydraulic assist is NOT something your vehicle would have come from the factory with, rather it is an upgrade that adds a hydraulic ram to the steering linkage to aid in steering. Most vehicles do NOT have this option, thus if you are unsure if you have it, you probably do not.

IMPORTANT NOTES: You have the option for us to include a pre-paid return label with the shipment for ease of returning your core. With this option, you will merely need to drop the re-packaged core with the accompanying shipping label at a FedEx drop-off. Otherwise, it will be your responsibility to supply your means of returning the core. Pre-paid return label option is only applicable to the lower 48 contiguous United States. Please contact us if you have any questions. Cores with broken shafts or cases will receive partial or no core refund.

• There is a mid-model year split in 2000, please determine whether you have the early or later model steering box before ordering by counting the splines on the shaft. The early models have 32 splines, while the late ones have a 36 splines. Thus, the Red-Head #2764 will feature 32 splines, whereas the #2764NBS will have 36.

2000 Excursion Steering Box Adjustment

My 2000 PSD 7.3 4WD Excursion with 195K miles has a chitload of play in the steering wheel. The ball joints, hub bearings, steering arm/drag link and Pitman Arm are relatively new and I have confirmed the components beyond the steering box to be in good condition and DEFINITELY NOT the reason for the wander and play. Therefore, I am CERTAIN the problem is in the steering box and/or input coupler. I'm not in a position to replace the steering box and coupler right away. So the question I have is, when I adjust the box how many turns do I start with? I think I've read that 1 to 1 1/4 turns is about it? Is there anything else I should know about this particular model? As always, thanks in advance for taking the time to respond.  

you need to verify the slop is in the box ,, I start the truck .. grab the input shaft from the column turn it back and forth ,, and see if the sector ( where the pitman arm is bolted to ) shaft is or isn't moving .. a little lag is normal ,, you just don't go turning the adjuster 1 and 1/4 turns hap haphazardly .. mine just happen to be that much and you may have read one of My threads? or you will be in the position to just replace the box LOL check it out and post back ,, it's not hard to adjust however it's not "by the book " doing it on the truck  

i tightened my lash up about a year ago, now i NEED a box.. only went about a half turn, worked good for about 5 months and then got worse and worse. so just be prepared that it may only be a temp fix  

When I did mine, I adjusted a 1/4 turn at a time. I think I stopped around a full turn. I too have since replaced my box. I probably had 4 to 5 inches of play in mine and cut it down to 2 to 3 inches by adjusting the box.

Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy: Alexey Shved, Khimki

For the second time in his career, Alexey Shved of Khimki Moscow Region has won the Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy. Shved led all scorers with 19.8 points to add the Ford Trophy for the 2020-21 season to his award from 2017-18. The Ford Trophy is awarded annually to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague player with the highest scoring average over a minimum number of games. It is the EuroLeague's only end-of-season award that is based solely on statistics. Shved's scoring average was half a point more than the runner-up, 2018-19 Ford Trophy winner Mike James of CSKA Moscow. Shved scored in double figures in all but one game for Khimki this season.

Although he missed Khimki's first four games, Shved needed no time to get going, scoring 32 points in an overtime home loss against Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv in his season debut. Shved went on to match his season high of 32 points twice more – against FC Bayern Munich in Round 22 and LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne in Round 32. Against Bayern, Shved made 15 free throws without a miss, which is the fifth-best free-throw shooting in competition history. Shved scored at least 20 points on 12 occasions. More than just a scorer, he also topped the regular season charts with 7.7 assists per game. Over the last four seasons, during which he has played 97 games, Shved leads the EuroLeague both in accumulated points (2,078) and scoring averaged (21.4 ppg.). Behind Shved in the scoring race this season were James (19.3 ppg.), Jordan Loyd (17.3 ppg.) of Crvena Zvezda, Vasilije Micic (16.4 ppg.) of Anadolu Efes Istanbul and Nikola Mirotic (16.0 ppg.) of FC Barcelona.

Shved averaged 21.8 points per game when he captured the Ford Trophy for the 2017-18 season. He raised his average in the 2018-19 campaign to 23.3 points, but took part in just 14 games, which left him ineligible for the award. Shved was second in scoring in the 2019-20 season with 21.4 points per game, behind only Shane Larkin (22.2 ppg.), when the competition came to a premature end due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A product of the CSKA Moscow youth system, Shved was a member of CSKA's EuroLeague-winning squad in 2008 and he helped the team get to the EuroLeague Championship Game in 2009 and 2012. After three seasons in the NBA with Minnesota, Philadelphia, Houston and New York, Shved joined Khimki in 2015 and has been the face of the franchise ever since. He was chosen as the 2016-17 7DAYS EuroCup MVP and earned All-EuroLeague honors the following season. Among his other major achievements are helping the Russian national team win respective bronze medals at EuroBasket 2011 in Lithuania and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Shved is the third multiple-winner of the Ford Trophy since it was first awarded in 2005. The other two are Igor Rakocevic, with Tau Ceramica Vitoria-Gasteiz in 2007 and 2009 and with Anadolu Efes Istanbul in 2011; and Keith Langford with Olimpia Milan in 2014 and UNICS Kazan in 2017. The other Ford Trophy winners are Nando De Colo of CSKA Moscow (2016); Taylor Rochestie of Nizhny Novgorod (2015); Bobby Brown (2013) and Bo McCalebb (2012), both of Montepaschi Siena; Linas Kleiza of Olympiacos Piraeus (2010); Marc Salyers of Chorale Roanne (2008); Drew Nicholas of Benetton Treviso (2006); and Charles Smith of Scavolini Pesaro (2005).

The trophy is named in memory of the late Alphonso Ford, who died of leukemia in September 2004 after a brilliant career in which he was the competition's leading scorer twice, in 2000-01 and 2001-02, both seasons with Olympiacos. He subsequently led Siena in scoring as it reached the 2003 Final Four. Ford owns the EuroLeague's all-time best scoring average with 22.2 points in 54 career games. Shved is fourth (16.8 ppg.) on that list, trailing Panos Liadelis (19.3 ppg.) and Arvydas Macijauskas (17.4 ppg.). The Ford Trophy is the first in a series of EuroLeague end-of-season honors. Other awards to be announced this week include the EuroLeague Best Defender and the EuroLeague Rising Star. The All-EuroLeague honorees will be announced later and the MVP award at this season's Final Four in Cologne, Germany. The Alexander Gomelskiy Coach of the Year Trophy and the EuroLeague Club Executive of the Year are post-season awards.
