How to Add Safari to Your iPhone Home Screen

Want to have easy access to Safari the moment you unlock your iPhone? Here's how to add it (back) to your Home Screen.

Did you accidentally remove the Safari app, and you're now wondering how to get Safari back on your iPhone's Home Screen? Look no further, as there are a few ways you can add Safari back to the Home Screen.

Fortunately, Apple doesn't allow deleting or uninstalling the Safari app since it's the native browser on iOS. So, it's not permanently gone from your iPhone.

So, if you removed the Safari app from your iPhone's Home Screen and cannot find it anywhere, this guide should help you put it back on the Home Screen.

1. Add Safari From the App Library

iPhones come with the App Library feature that shows you all the installed apps grouped in folders of their categories. If you've removed Safari from the Home Screen, you can check the App Library on your iPhone and add it from there.

  • Swipe to the right-most Home Screen page on your iPhone until you reach the App Library .
  • Tap the search bar on top and type Safari. The Safari app will appear in the search results.
  • Long-press on Safari's icon and tap Add to Home Screen .

You can also drag the Safari app to the Home Screen if the Add to Home Screen button is missing from the menu.

2. Add Safari From Spotlight Search

Another way to add the Safari app back to the Home Screen is by searching for it using Spotlight. This feature lets you find apps, settings, contacts, and more.

Here's how you can use the Spotlight search feature to find and add the Safari app back to the Home Screen on your iPhone:

  • Tap the Search icon at the bottom of your iPhone's Home Screen (above the dock).
  • Type Safari, and you'll find the app in the search results.
  • Tap and hold the Safari icon.
  • Select Add to Home Screen .

Alternatively, you can drag the Safari app to one of your Home Screen pages from here.

3. Unrestrict Safari From Screen Time Settings

If you can't find Safari in the App Library or Spotlight search, it's likely because the app is restricted in the Screen Time settings. Follow the steps below to remove the Screen Time restriction for Safari on your iPhone:

  • Launch Settings on your iPhone.
  • Go to Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps .
  • Toggle on the switch for Safari .

That's it. You should be able to see the Safari app on your Home Screen after toggling on the Safari switch. Editing your Screen Time settings is also one of the best ways to fix Safari not working on an iPhone .

4. Reset the Home Screen Layout

If none of the above methods worked, you should try resetting your iPhone's Home Screen layout. Doing this will delete any folders you've created on your Home Screen, and all the apps, including Safari, will return to their original location. Here's how you can do it:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone.
  • Go to General > Transfer or Reset > Reset .
  • Choose the Reset Home Screen Layout option.

After doing this, you should see the Safari app back on your iPhone's Home Screen.

Put Safari Back on Your iPhone's Home Screen

Safari comes pre-installed on all Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. So, even if you accidentally removed the Safari app from your iPhone's Home Screen, it's not completely gone from your device.

You can easily fix this issue by adding the Safari app from the App Library, removing the screen time restriction for Safari, or resetting your iPhone's Home Screen layout. But if you still can't find Safari on your iPhone, it's time to report your issue to Apple.

How to Add Safari app back to Home Screen on iPhone

Guide to put safari icon back to your iphone home screen or dock..

Mayur Agarwal

Just like Mail and Messages, Safari is a part of the app package that comes pre-installed on iOS and macOS. Safari is also the default browser on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Hence, you cannot Offload or delete Safari unlike a few other pre-loaded apps on iOS such as GarageBand, iMovie, Pages, and Keynote.

In case, Safari is missing from your iPhone then you might be looking to reinstall it. Well, you can’t reinstall Safari on iPhone because the app is already there on your iPhone or iPad. Moreover, you cannot update Safari from the App Store as it updates automatically when there is an iOS update.

That said if you can’t find Safari on your iOS device then you shouldn’t worry. The app is intact on your iPhone with all the settings and data including browsing data and logins. Possibly, Safari isn’t appearing just because you accidentally removed it from your home screen, moved it to an app folder, or disabled the app at some point in time.

Thankfully, you can easily add Safari back to the home screen and access it like before. Let’s find out how to restore Safari icon on iPhone running iOS 14 .

How to get Safari back on iPhone

Make use of one of the below ways to get the Safari icon back on your iPhone or iPad.

From App Library on iOS 14

  • Go to the App Library and open the Utilities folder. [Refer: How to find iOS 14’s App Library ]
  • Look for the Safari app.
  • Press and hold an empty area on the screen until you see the jiggle mode.
  • Tap the Safari app icon and drag it to one of your home screens.
  • Tap ‘Done’ at the top-right corner after moving the app.

That’s it. Similarly, you can add other apps to the home screen in iOS 14 .

Using Search

Search for safari using spotlight search.

If Safari is missing from the iPhone home screen, then use Spotlight Search to see if the app is there in an app folder . This method also works with iOS 13.

search safari app on iPhone

To do so , swipe down the screen while you are on the home screen. Type Safari in the search box at the top. You can now see the particular app folder name in case Safari is residing in a certain folder. You can then normally move Safari from that folder to the home screen or some other app folder.

Look for Safari in the App Library

If you don’t see Safari in the Utilities app group then simply search for the app in the App Library.

To do so , swipe down on the App Library page and search for Safari. To put safari back on the iPhone dock, press and hold the Safari app icon and continue holding it until you can add the app back to the home screen. Then drag and place the app in the dock.

Alternatively , you can long-tap the Safari icon in App Libray and select “Add to Home Screen”. It’s worth noting that the add to home screen option won’t appear if Safari is already there on your home screen, in an app folder, or even on one of the hidden app pages in iOS 14.

Reset Home Screen Layout

This is certainly the easiest way to restore the home screen layout and appearance on your iPhone or iPad.

NOTE : We do not suggest using this method because it will re-arrange all your apps on the home screen and remove home screen widgets as well.

To restore the default home screen layout in iOS 15 , go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone . Select Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout and then tap “Reset Home Screen” to confirm.

Unrestrict and Re-enable Safari on iPhone

Parental Controls on iOS allow users to restrict access to built-in apps. If you disable or turn off an app on your iPhone, the app is just temporarily hidden from your home screen.

In case you have disabled Safari, then you won’t be able to find it anywhere on your iPhone using the above-mentioned methods. To access the Safari browser again, you first need to enable the app. For this,

  • Go to Settings > Screen Time.

Thank you! There were many other sites whose only solution was to reset the home screen which, apparently, reverts it to factory settings! I did not want that. Your solution to restore the (in my case) Safari icon was fast, easy, and accurate! I knew there had to be a better way! Thank you, again!

Safari 101 : How to Save a Website or Webpage to Your Home Screen for Instant Access

How to Save a Website or Webpage to Your Home Screen for Instant Access

The internet is full of fun, cool, and interesting websites. Bookmarks and favorites can help keep your favorite pages on hand, but they aren't the most convenient method. In iOS, Apple lets you save whatever webpages that you want to the home screen, so you'll have as easy access to them just as you do apps on your iPhone.

This feature is just about as old as the iPhone itself. However, it isn't super obvious, so even the seasoned iPhone owner might not know about this trick. Once you've learned, however, saving webpages to your home screen is quick and easy, and will make returning to those links again and again even faster. This is most important for websites you visit frequently that have no dedicated iOS app.

  • Don't Miss: The 10 Best New Safari Features in iOS 11 For iPhone

Saving a Webpage

To begin, launch Safari and load up any webpage you want to save. Make sure the Safari tools are visible, so either scroll up on the webpage or tap the top bar to make them appear if they're not already. Next, tap the share button at the bottom (or top if you're in landscape mode). Look at the bottom row of activities in the share sheet, then swipe left until you see "Add to Home Screen," and tap on it.

On the next page, everything should be filled out for you already. You will see an icon preview of what the saved webpage will look like on your home screen, taken from the website's favicon , and Apple will default to using the website's name, plus possibly its tagline, for the new "app" name. You can change the title to whatever you want, however, you'll want to to keep it short and sweet to avoid any irregular formatting on the home screen.

When you're finished, tap either "Done" in the keyboard or "Add" up top.

Safari 101: How to Save a Website or Webpage to Your Home Screen for Instant Access

Note that as of iOS 11.3 , some of the webpages you save may actually be progressive web apps (PWAs) that work like mini-versions of their apps in the iOS App Store, if they even have one in there. These webpages are treated more like apps that bookmarked webpages. More on that later.

Arranging & Deleting Your Saved Webpages

Your saved webpage will now appear on your home screen just like any other app. To move it somewhere else, simply tap and hold until the icons begin to shake, then drag the webpage to a new location. To delete the webpage, tap and hold again, but this time, tap the "X" icon. When prompted, tap "Delete."

Safari 101: How to Save a Website or Webpage to Your Home Screen for Instant Access

Viewing Your Webpage

When you're happy with your webpage's location, simply tap on it to open the link. The webpage will open as a new tab in Safari if it's from a regular website. If you already had the page open when you tapped on your home screen shortcut, it will promptly reload.

As for any PWAs that you added to your home screen, they should open up as their own app and not as a tab in Safari. This is the prime indicator for knowing if a webpage you saved is a PWA or not. For more information on how PWAs work and why they are nice to have, check out our roundup of cool PWA apps .

Interestingly, there seems to be a bug where webpages saved to the home screen do not always launch in Safari. Instead, they open as their own "app," meaning that Apple still has some work to do when it comes to supporting PWAs, since iOS sometimes confuses non-PWAs and PWAs. If you experience the bug, try force-closing Safari or restarting your iPhone . Afterward, your saved webpage should open normally in Safari. If it was actually a PWA, well ... then you now know it's a PWA.

Add a Website Bookmark to Your Home Screen on iPhone and iPad

Some websites don't have a dedicated mobile app for accessing their content, but that doesn't mean you can't add bookmarks to favorite websites on your Home screen.

How To Use Web Apps Feature

When you tap a website bookmark on your Home screen, it opens in Safari on the specific page you selected. If the site you're linking to has a dynamic mobile-friendly layout, accessing it from your Home screen can even become an app-like experience.

How to Create a Website Link on Your Home Screen

  • Launch Safari on your ‌iPhone‌ or ‌iPad‌.
  • Navigate to the site that you want to create a Home screen shortcut to.
  • Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing out of it) at the bottom of the screen.

safari

  • Type a name for your site link. This will be the title that appears beneath its icon on your Home screen.

add to home screen on safari

What to Know

  • Open Safari > go to web page you want to add as Home screen icon > Share icon > Add to Home Screen .
  • Next, edit the shortcut name (optional) > select Add to save the shortcut.

This article explains how to add an iPad Home screen icon for a specific web page to serve as a shortcut to that page.Information applies to iPads with iOS 7 through iPadOS 16.

How to Add a Home Screen Icon for a Web Page

The iPad home screen displays icons for navigating through your applications and settings. Among these apps is  Safari , Apple's web browser, which is included with all its operating systems. One especially useful feature is the ability to put shortcuts to your favorite web pages on the iPad Home screen.

Making a Home screen icon for a web page that you visit frequently saves time. Here's how to do it.

Select the Safari icon to open the main browser window.

Go to the web page that you want to add as a Home screen icon. Select the  Share  button at the top or bottom of the browser window. It's represented by a square with an up arrow.

In the window that opens, scroll across or down and select  Add to Home Screen .

In the interface that opens, edit the name of the shortcut icon you are creating, if needed. This step is optional, but a short name is best. It represents the title that displays on the Home screen under the icon.

Select  Add to save the shortcut.

Your iPad's Home screen now contains an icon that takes you directly to your chosen web page.

If you have multiple home screens, it may appear on a screen that isn't filled.

You can move the shortcut and organize it like any other app icon. When you no longer need it, delete it in the same way that you would delete apps from the iPad .

How to Add Safari to iPhone Home Screen? (5 Great Methods)

If you have noticed that the Safari browser has disappeared from your iPhone Home Screen, you can get it back by adding it from either the App Library page, Spotlight Search, or by unhiding any hidden Home Screen pages on your iPhone.

I was using my iPhone one day and on entering my Home Screen, I noticed that the Safari app was no longer there. I checked all over the phone and even ensured that it was still installed, but I couldn't find it. This led me to do some serious troubleshooting, and with that, I was able to find the cause of the lost Safari icon on iPhone.

If you're facing a similar situation and you're looking for how to add Safari to iPhone Home Screen, I'll show you how to solve this. Let's get right into it.

How Do I Get My Safari Icon Back On My iPhone?

If you've noticed that the Safari app icon on your iPhone is suddenly missing, there are a few methods you can use to get the app back on your Home Screen.

1. Use the App Library

When Apple announced iOS 14, they also brought the App Library feature. This helps you organize your app icons into different folders depending on their category.

In cases where you have a missing Safari icon, you can bring it back to the Home Screen using the App Library.

Follow the steps below to add the browser back to the Home Screen from its App Library folder:

  • Unlock your iPhone.
  • From the Home Screen, swipe to the rightmost page.
  • Open the App's Library Utility folder.
  • Navigate and find the Safari app.
  • Drag the app from that folder and put it back on your iPhone's Home Screen.

If for some reason, Safari is not in your Utilities folder, you can search for it in the App Library by swiping down to open the search field.

Type "Safari" and you will see the app folder where it is located. You can now drag it to the Home Screen.

2. Use Spotlight Search

Apple's Spotlight Search is a great way to quickly access apps, files, and settings on your iPhone or iPad without having to search for them manually.

If your Safari browser has disappeared from the Home Screen, you can add it using Spotlight Search.

  • From your iPhone Home Screen, swipe down. This will open the search bar.
  • Type "Safari".
  • Tap the Safari icon that appears in the search results to go to its location on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Now, you can add Safari app to your Home Screen by dragging and dropping it where you want it to go.

3. Check Hidden Home Screen Pages

One cool thing about your Home Screen on iPhone is that you can set up the different pages as you wish, and even hide some of them.

The Home Screen page where the Safari app is located might have been hidden, and unhiding it can bring it back for easy access.

This is likely to be the case if the iPhone icon for Safari didn't even appear in Search or the App Library.

  • Look for an empty part of your Home Screen and long-press it.
  • At the bottom of the screen, tap the oval that has dots in it. This will launch the "Edit Pages" menu.
  • You will now see all your screens. The Home Screens without a check below them are hidden Home pages.
  • Look for the one that has Safari in it and tap the empty circle under it to add a check mark.
  • In the top-right corner, tap "Done".

The page with Safari on it will now be back on your iPhone.

4. Reset Home Screen Layout

Some people agree that resetting your Home Screen layout is a quick and easy way to fix issues with your browser not showing up.

You can easily reset this from the Settings app.

  • Open "Settings".
  • Tap "General".
  • Go to the "Reset" menu.
  • Tap "Reset Home Screen Layout", which appears near the bottom.
  • Confirm this action on the prompt that appears after to perform a Home Screen reset.

Keep in mind that performing a reset like this won't affect your data, but will reset your Home Screen widgets and other customization back to default.

5. Whitelist Safari From Privacy Restrictions

The Privacy Restrictions feature on your iOS device prevents certain apps from being accessed, as part of parental controls.

If Safari was restricted on your iOS device somehow, you won't find it on the Home Screen.

  • Open the "Settings" app.
  • Open the "Screen Time" settings menu.
  • Tap "Content & Privacy Restrictions".
  • Type in your device's passcode.
  • Go to "Allowed Apps".
  • Look for Safari and make sure the green switch beside it is toggled on.

Why Has My Safari App Icon Disappeared?

When your Safari app vanishes from your device, there are quite a few reasons why this might have happened.

Fortunately, in most cases, you might have changed a setting by mistake, and you can easily add to Home Screen with the fixes above.

Here are some of the reasons why your Safari app icon has disappeared:

  • You have a hidden page on the Home Screen that contains this app.
  • There are Privacy Restrictions set for Safari.
  • There is a software glitch that has caused the app to disappear.
  • You accidentally placed it in another folder.

How to Add Safari Browser Shortcuts to Home Screen?

When you use certain websites frequently, it can be helpful to have a shortcut for that website that you can access easily.

The cool part is that you can add a Home Screen shortcut to a particular webpage on your iOS devices in a few steps.

  • Launch Safari.
  • Go to the website you want to make a shortcut for.
  • Tap the Share icon, which looks like a box with an arrow pointing up.
  • Select "Add to Home Screen".
  • Type in a name for the shortcut.

Now, when you check your Home Page, you will see a new shortcut that looks like an app icon. When you open it, it launches Safari and takes you directly to the chosen website.

Final Words

You can get Safari back on your iPhone's Home Screen by dragging and dropping it from Spotlight Search or the App Library. You can also unhide any hidden pages on your iPhone, reset the Home Screen layout, or make sure there is no Restriction enabled for the browser.

You may also add a shortcut to a particular website from the Share menu in the Safari browser. This gives you a quick and easy way to open an app straight from any of your Home Screen pages.

How-To Geek

How to add a website to the home screen on iphone and android.

Put websites on your Android or iPhone home screen for quick access.

Quick Links

How to add a website to the home screen on iphone or ipad, how to add a website to the android home screen, how to make a website an app on iphone or ipad, how to make a website an app on android, key takeaways.

To add a website to the home screen on iPhone, open Safari and tap the share button. Choose "Add to Home Screen" from the menu. On Android, open Chrome, Edge, or Firefox and select "Add to Home Screen" or "Add to Phone" from the menu. The same process works for installing web apps.

Your Android phone, iPhone, or iPad home screen isn't just for apps. Whatever device you're using, you can add a website shortcut to the home screen for easy access. In some cases, you can even make the website work like an app.

On iPhone or iPad, you can only add websites to the home screen with Safari . Browsers such as Google Chrome are not able to do it.

First, open Safari and navigate to the website you'd like to add to the home screen. Tap the share button (up arrow within a square) in the toolbar.

Scroll through the share sheet and tap "Add to Home Screen." If you don't see this option, it can be added from the " Edit Actions " option at the bottom of the share sheet.

Next, you can edit the name for the home screen shortcut and tap "Add."

The website shortcut will be added to your home screen! You can move it around and put it in folders just like an app icon, but it won't appear in the App Library .

Unlike the iPhone, it's possible to add websites to the Android home screen from a variety of browsers. We'll demonstrate with Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox.

First, open Google Chrome and navigate to the website you'd like to add to the home screen. Tap the three-dot menu icon in the top right.

Select "Add to Home Screen" from the menu.

Now you can edit the name for the home screen shortcut and tap "Add."

A pop-up from your home screen launcher will appear, and you can tap and hold to drag the icon to the home screen, or automatically add it by tapping "Add to Home Screen."

For Microsoft Edge , select the three-dot menu icon in the toolbar, then tap "Add to Phone."

With Mozilla Firefox , tap the three-dot menu icon in the toolbar, then select "Add to Home Screen."

That's it! The website shortcut app icon can be moved around and added to folders just like an app, but it won't appear in the app drawer.

Progressive web apps can be added to the iPhone and iPad home screen in the same way as regular websites, but they open in their own instance, like a native app. The process is the same as adding a website to the home screen.

Open Safari and go to the web app you'd like to place on the home screen. Tap the share button (up arrow within a square) in the toolbar.

Select "Add to Home Screen" from the share sheet. If you don't see this option, tap "Edit Actions" at the bottom of the share sheet and add it from there .

Next, change the name of the shortcut if you'd like, and tap "Add."

The web app will be added to your home screen! When you launch the web app, it will open in its own independent instance, not just a tab in Safari.

Progressive web apps on Android can be "installed" in a similar way to native apps. When you "install" a web app from the browser, it opens in its own instance like a native app. Mozilla Firefox on Android cannot install web apps.

Sometimes, a web app will tell you it can be installed. If that's the case, simply tap the "Install" button.

In Google Chrome, tap the three-dot menu icon and select "Install App."

Web apps installed from Chrome are added to the app drawer along with the home screen. They even appear in the Android share menu.

In Microsoft Edge, tap the three-dot menu icon and select "Add to Phone."

Web apps installed by Edge will only appear on the home screen, but they still open in their own instance like a native app.

For websites you access often, this is a great time-saving trick. It's right up there with in-app home screen shortcuts as an undervalued feature. As more web apps become available, there's less of a need for native apps .

If you're using a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, you can add website shortcuts to your taskbar . You can also pin websites as apps to your Mac's dock .

You can change the layout of your Home Screen—move apps and widgets around or drag them to other Home Screen pages, temporarily hide Home Screen pages, change where new apps get downloaded, and more.

Tip: You can move all your apps and widgets related to a particular Focus (your Work Focus, for example) onto one Home Screen page, and make that page accessible during that Focus.

Move apps and widgets around on your iPhone

Touch and hold any app or widget on the Home Screen, then tap Edit Home Screen.

The apps begin to jiggle.

Drag an app to one of the following locations:

Another location on the same page

Another Home Screen page

Drag the app or widget to the right edge of the screen. You might need to wait a second for the new page to appear. The dots above the Dock show how many pages you have and which one you’re viewing.

Jiggling apps on the Home Screen with an arrow showing one app being dragged to the next page.

When you’re finished, press the Home button (on an iPhone with a Home button) or tap Done (on other iPhone models).

Reset the Home Screen and apps to their original layout

add to home screen on safari

Tap Reset, tap Reset Home Screen Layout, then tap Reset Home Screen.

Any folders you’ve created are removed, and apps you’ve downloaded are arranged alphabetically after apps that came with your iPhone.

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Sorry, no, not possible.

iPadOS Safari doesn’t have any concept of the traditional “Home Page” with which you may be familiar when using a desktop or laptop computer. As such, a Browser “Home Button” (returning to a Home Page) has no conceptual meaning within the UI - as employed by iOS/iPadOS Safari.

Apps from different Software Developers may have different features and capabilities. As these widely vary, you will need to make your own comparisons.

Firefox for iPadOS does have a kind of Home Page, that is presented upon opening a new page/tab, but this does not replicate the desktop functionality with which you are making comparison.

The OS Paradigm fundamentally differs between the environments that you are attempting to draw comparison.

I hope this information and insight is helpful to you.

It is. Just very odd how developers of these apps, think tablet users want to *lose* features on a tablet.

But now I know, clearly they do think that, as they don’t even offer us to ability to add it.
